in any modern sort of verse, newt's wardrobe consists mainly of collared shirts, sweater vests, and bowties. he has so many different bowties. blazers over the sweater vests for more formal occasions. you'll rarely catch him in only a t-shirt BUT on more relaxed days he may settle for a cozy sweatshirt.

     “ well— ”

  a fair enough question, he supposes. though he hadn’t considered it before speaking, he can see now how it MIGHT seem suspicious for someone to know about the door at the back of the generator room just down the hall which opens up to the back of campus. and… also happens to have a BROKEN LOCK.

     “ i found it, ”  he explains with a small, part-awkward, part-sheepish smile as his eyes continue to follow the large mantis walking along the knuckles of his fingers. it hadn’t exactly been by ACCIDENT that he’d found it, because maybe he had been searching for ways in and out of student housing that AREN’T under constant surveillance, but it also hadn’t been for any ill intent. that much, at least, newt trusts that matt knows.

     “ how do you think i managed to bring those bats onto the premises in the middle of the night last week? ”  a slight raise of eyebrows, and newt finally lifts his gaze from the insect to look instead at his roommate. it’s possible there’s something just on the edge of CHEEKY in his expression before he continues;  “ it’s proven incredibly useful, and i suspected you might find it to be so as well. just, ehm… please don’t tell anyone ELSE about it. ”
