Previously we featured a post about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau having a leading role in the upcoming historical series King and Conqueror.
Now comes news that Nikolaj won't be the only Game of Thrones alum in that series about William of Normandy's big move in 1066.
CBS Studios and the BBC’s period drama series “King & Conqueror” has revealed additional cast members, including “The Crown’s” Luther Ford and “Game of Thrones” actor Joseph Mawle, as it begins production in Iceland. [ ... ] They join the previously announced James Norton as Harold, Earl of Wessex; Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William, Duke of Normandy; Emily Beecham as Edith Swan-neck, Harold of Wessex’s wife; and Clémence Poésy as Matilda, William of Normandy’s wife. [ ... ] Mawle, who also has a role in “The Rings of Power,” will play Fitzosbern, William’s protector since he was a boy and the closest thing he has to a friend. A grounded and straightforward soldier who has stood beside William his whole life.
Joseph Mawle portrayed Benjen Stark who disappeared during Season 1 but returned in later seasons to come to the rescue of kin.
Benjen Stark and Jaime Lannister may have rubbed elbows when King Robert Baratheon visited Winterfell with his large entourage. But I can't recall, offhand, any interactions between the two.
This is not the first time that two GoT alums will appear together in another series. For example: Kristian Nairn (Hodor) and Joel Fry (Hizdahr zo Loraq) both appeared in Our Flag Means Death.

This is the 10th anniversary of the Purple Wedding. You could just about hear people cheering from their homes in 2014.
Rivaled only by Ramsay Bolton and his gruesome affinity for siccing hounds on his victims, Joffrey's predilection for cruelty landed him a proportionate end. Knowing that his claim to the Iron Throne was by all suspicions illegitimate — as he was likely the product of a forbidden relationship between Cersei and her bother, Kingslayer Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) — made his death even more palatable.
Joffrey's evil nature was apparent all the way back in S01E02. Writer Gabriella Ferrigine lists six reasons in her article why Joffrey had it coming. The first reason was his ordering the death of Mycah, the butcher's boy, on the way from Winterfell to King's Landing. Joff wasn't even king at the time.
It would have been great fun if Arya had finished him off. Though the story would have taken a drastic turn.

Cersei thought she could control Joffrey – but we know how that went. While her influence increased when Joffrey became king, he often went off script and just kept getting worse.

George R.R. Martin has endowed a chair at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism – his alma mater. He was at Northwestern in late February for the investiture of Prof. Cheryl Lu-Lien Tan as the inaugural holder of the George R.R. Martin Chair in Storytelling.
He wrote at Not a Blog...
I attended Medill back in what they now like to call “the turbulent 60s”  (and no kidding, they were pretty turbulent), and departed with a couple of degrees, BSJ ’70, MSJ ’71.  I did not get back often  in the half-century that followed, alas. Life got in the way, as it has a habit of doing. But I always looked back fondly on my years in Evanston, and the courses and teachers that helped shape me as a writer. I had been writing long before I arrived in Illinois, of course. Monster stories for other kids in the projects in grade school (got a nickle each for them, enough for a Milky Way, and if I sold two I could buy a comic book) and amateur superhero stories for comic fanzines when I got to high school (Powerman, Dr. Weird, the White Raider, and Garizan the Mechanical Warrior), but it was during my years at Northwestern that I began to submit to professional magazines. It was while I was in Evanston that I got my first professional rejection slip (from AMERICAN SCANDINAVIAN REVIEW, for “The Fortress,” a story I wrote for a history class at Northwestern) and made my first professional sale (from GALAXY, for “The Hero,” a story I wrote for a creative writing class at Northwestern). So it seemed only fitting for me to “pay forward” to Medill for all I learned there, by endowing a chair in storytelling. The investiture was my first opportunity to meet Cheryl Lu-Lien Tan, who was chosen over thirty other highly qualified applicants to be the first “GRRM Professor.”  It seemed only fitting that I give her an actual chair, as well, as the title… so I did.
If you're a student at Medill, take a peek inside Prof. Tan's office to see the miniature Iron Throne which GRRM presented her.
Cheryl has written both fiction and non-fiction. She has been a news and fashion reporter for the Wall Street Journal, InStyle, the Baltimore Sun, and other major news outlets.  Her books include the bestselling novel SARONG PARTY GIRLS, set in her native Singapore. She will teach both undergraduate and graduate students, organize panels and conferences, and conduct an intensive writing workshop every summer,  to help professional journalists cross over into creative writing.

Liam Cunningham hasn't "gone Hollywood". Cool for him!
Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham has revealed he still lives in the same home years after his success on the hit show. Cunningham said living in Ireland keeps him grounded. He said: “No, I love the fact that you’re not allowed to get ahead of yourself in Ireland. “There’s a healthy amount of begrudgery in Dublin, which I tend to enjoy. “I get accused the odd time of being out of touch, especially when I’m spouting off about politics. “People on social media say it’s okay for the likes of you in your gated community in Hollywood. “I have to laugh. I mean, I’m living in the same house that I’ve been in before I started acting. “I like it here,” he told the RTE Guide.
Of all the Game of Thrones actors, Liam Cunningham may be the closest in personality to the character he portrays. Ser Davos would be pleased.

The Dragon Throne
The Targaryen throne at Dragonstone probably dates back to the time that the castle was being built.
The throne looks like a small rock formation or at least part of a larger formation from which it was chiselled away. The diagonal ridges are similar to those on the rock face along the beach at Dragonstone.
Tumblr media
Because of throne’s massive weight, it was likely placed there before the throne room was completed. It’s difficult to imagine movers getting it through the doors.
Carving out the actual seat would almost have been easy compared with situating such a large, heavy, and oddly shaped object.
Though it’s not exactly a comfy chair, it probably would be far more pleasant to sit on than the spiky and metallic Iron Throne.
In House of the Dragon, it seems likely we’ll be seeing this throne again. And if the series begins with the Targaryens arriving at Dragonstone then we may get a glimpse of the castle and throne being built.

So, can you imagine Matt Smith in the role of Daemon Targaryen in the upcoming prequel House of the Dragon? He would need long white hair and purple contacts to convincingly portray a Targaryen.
Here’s a representation of Daemon Targaryen by artist Marc Simonetti.
Tumblr media
The role of Prince Daemon would be a major one. If Matt took the part he would be high profile in the series.

Daenerys as the Night Queen is an interesting concept. Though she’d have to start from scratch putting together a new Army of the Dead. And she’d also have to learn various skills on her own like turning babies into White Walkers. Of course she’d have thousands of years to catch up on all that stuff.
