Charlotte never considered herself shy, or reserved. She always saw herself as open and receptive to life's experiences. She was the first in line when her friends wanted to go skydiving. She would try any dish of food once. You could tell her your darkest secrets and she'd never judge or tell. She'd offer to drive if you called her at 2am and asked if she wanted to go on a milkshake run. She never missed an opportunity to have fun. So, when Carson dumped her because she was too "tame", at his company work party, she had no idea how to swallow that or her tears.

Too prideful to leave, but not confrontational enough to make a scene, she watched him leave before going to the bathroom. After quietly letting a few tears fall, she neatened up her makeup as best she could and smiled awkwardly at strangers as she walked up to the bar to get a drink. Sliding on the stool, she readjusted the red fabric of her dress before resting her elbow on the counter. She forced another smile. "I'll take a vodka-sprite, double," She ordered, wishing a triple was a thing. Once she had her drink, she chewed on the black straw as she sipped it, wondering how many she should have before leaving. Her Aunt Berta said Carson had a wicked aura, she should've listened to the old bat.

"Who said you were allowed to quit?" Nicolas finally lifted his gaze from the paperwork on his desk, looking up at the woman sternly. He waited a moment, curious to see how she would respond, but when she simply gave him a look of confusion, he decided to continue. Standing, he moved towards her, his build towering over her more petite frame.

"I can't allow this, so I suggest you get used to being by my side." His large hand slid around her waist, pulling her body flush against his. Nick bent down and captured her lips with his own, kissing her hard. He wanted to prove that she was still his; her body still belonged to him. He wasn't about to let her leave that easily. It didn't matter to him that he was engaged to marry someone else; to him, it was a simple business transaction, nothing more.

If not for the sunlight literally forcing his body into stasis, Nicolas would not have slept. He had been writing without pause for three nights now. His little room was flooded with ink-filled pages, they lay on the floor in drifts like snow. Some of the paper was stained in drops of pink and red at the edges, where he had worn his fingers down in his diligence. He could feel the energy buzzing in him, like a hive of bees had taken up the cavity of his chest. He was a lightning rod, Inspiration needed to move through him and out of him, onto the page, into the world.
