“It’s almost noon,” You mutter, checking the time on your phone, the grumbling of your stomach growing louder by the second. As much as you’d love to munch on the snacks that currently filled the backseat, you knew you needed something a bit more filling than that. The sun seemed to be at its highest peak, Oikawa pulls out the cheap, plastic, heart-shaped sunglasses he bought from the gas station out the glove compartment, looking at you with what might be the goofiest grin you had seen from him. You look away, mumbling a quiet “Cute.”
Oikawa gasps, a small flush on his cheeks as he turned his attention back on the road, “Look at you actually complimenting me. Are the questions actually working, Yn?”
“Don’t flatter yourself. I think I’m just getting hungry,” You roll your eyes, a small smile making its way to your face, “Where’s the nearest restaurant? We should be getting lunch soon.”
Oikawa glances at his phone’s gps, biting the inside of his cheek, “Maybe about forty-five minutes from now. There’s a place with a bunch of restaurants where we can stop over..”
“Mhmm. Alright.” You hum, turning your phone on and pulling up the next question, “We can get a few questions out of the way in the meantime.”
“Look at you,” He chuckles, unable to stop his gaze from landing on you for just the briefest of moments. If you had been looking back at him, if your eyes had only met his instead of glued on your phone, you might have been able to notice the flash of fondness present in him. But you weren’t, and his eyes return to the long concrete road ahead of him, a small amount of sarcasm lacing his words, “So enthusiastic about the possibility of falling in love with me.”
“You know, the tables could turn and you could be the one who falls in love with me. You’re answering these questions too.”
The words fall past your lips without much of a thought, your eyes widening when the sound of your own voice reaches your ears. You turn to face Oikawa, about to retract your words when you find him still staring straight ahead with a small smile on his face.
“You could be right, Yn.”

10. If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?
Tumblr media
Your brows knit together, a quiet huff escaping you as you thought about your answer. Oikawa had already called you out on your walls being too high up. Times like these you wonder why you would even bother hiding anything from him. You’re unsure as to how he figured out that you had been holding back on answering some of the previous questions, but the confusion wears off just as soon as it came. Oikawa had always been one of the most perceptive people you know.
He’s humming to himself, waiting for your answer. Although he isn’t doing anything particularly pressuring, you begin to feel a slight heaviness creeping its way up to your chest, tugging at your heartstrings. You look away from him with a sigh, looking out the window felt like a much better option — at least with regards to the small pit that has somehow started to build in your stomach.
“Not too sure if I’d change anything…” You trail off, plastering the few cracks in your walls that had begun to appear, employing a somewhat teasing tone in your voice, “Maybe I’d change my family’s move to Miyagi.”
“What? You wish you’d move there sooner? So you can meet me sooner?”
“Nope.” You shake your head, “I’d wish that we never moved there at all. My life would probably be a lot quieter if I hadn’t met you.”
Oikawa raises a brow at you, a knowing look plastered on his features, “Really?”
“Really.”
“Maybe a lot quieter, but definitely more boring too.” He argues back, playing along with your answer, aware that you didn’t mean any ill-intent.
“I can’t argue with that,” You grin, “Still remember the day that we met?”
“How could I forget?”

The playground is mostly empty, the soil still soft and the blades of grass catching bright morning light. It wasn’t always that rain came down on summer days, but this one was an exception — an exception that seven-year-old you was grateful for. You had the entire place to yourself, no fighting with other children for a chance to go on the swings or the slides. Wiping off the water that remained on the wooden seat of the swing with your hand, you sit with a smile on your face, grabbing onto the cool metal chain that held the plank of wood. Your laughter echoed up to the sky as you threw your head back, pushing yourself off the ground as hard as you can.
You’re unsure as to how long you had been on the swing when a boy your age suddenly appeared in front of you, forcing you to dig your heels into the ground to stop yourself from hitting him. You frowned, the space between your brows forming a deep crease, “Get out of the way.”
The boy grinned, unaffected by your hostile tone, “You’re new around here, aren’t you? I haven’t seen you around here before.”
“So what if I am?”
He used one hand to hold a volleyball, the other he used to point at a nearby house, keeping that same overly excited tone of voice, “I live over there, see? You’re going to keep seeing me.”
“Okay?” You still didn’t know what this kid want from you, your patience started to dwindle down. All you wanted was to continue your time on the swings before any other kid bothered you for it later on. “What do you want?”
“Play volleyball with me. If you don’t know how, I’ll teach you!” He flashed you a toothy grin, pushing the volleyball towards you. The boy most likely noticed that you still look unconvinced, adding,  “I’ll push you on the swings anytime you want.”
“Fine.” You rolled your eyes and got off the swing, grabbing the volleyball from his hands, “I’m Yn.”
“Tooru.”

11. Take four minutes and tell your partner your life story in as much detail as possible.
Tumblr media
You watch as Oikawa take a deep breath, as if he were preparing himself for the onslaught of words that were about to fall from his lips. Knowing him, he probably was preparing himself. You’ve gotten through most of your friendship with him just hearing his voice rising above any other sound that surrounded you. This wouldn’t be anything new. Still, you couldn’t help but tease him the tiniest bit.
“You’re exaggerating.” You deadpan, setting up the timer of your phone to four minutes, “Want to make things more interesting?”
He lights up, his voice clearly excited when he replies, “Are you the one issuing a challenge this time?”
“If you say even one word past the four minute mark, you drive on the way back from the wedding and I get to sleep.” You grin, knowing how much your best friend talked sent waves of anticipation to your veins. Part of you knew that the wedding would have you exhausted, especially after a long night of dancing and catching up with everyone; you definitely wouldn’t be in the mood to drive the entirety of the nine hours.
“Ohhhh,” Oikawa practically sings, extending the single syllable for much longer than needed. “What’s in it for me if I succeed?”
“Hmm.” You place a finger beneath your chin, trying your hardest to think of a fair trade, “How about…I be your wingperson during the reception? If you see anyone you’re even remotely interested in during the reception, I will go up to them and hype you up.”
Oikawa throws his head back in laughter, he turns to you with a smirk once he’s calmed down, “What if someone tries to hit on you? How are you going to be my wingperson then?”
“I’ll turn them down.”
“You’re going to turn down everyone who hits on you during the reception?”
“Mhmm, my sole purpose will be to get you laid. Or at least get you that person’s number.”
The tips of his ears turn pink, a shade matching the color that spread across his cheeks. The corners of his mouth quirk upwards into a barely noticeable smile, “You’ve got yourself a deal.”
You clap your hands together, an excited squeal leaving your lips. Your hand moves to lower the volume of the car’s speaker, eager to hear every word that he was about to say. Truth be told, you were intrigued as to how he would boil down everything that had happened in his life in under four minutes. Compared to yours, it definitely seemed a lot more eventful.
Turning your phone screen towards him, proving that you had exactly four minutes up on the timer, “Ready?”
He nods, a determined look in his eyes, “Ready.”
“Okay, go!”
“I was born, I started going to school, I met Iwa and you and Makki and Mattsun. In between all of that I learned how to play volleyball. I played volleyball all throughout highschool. Moved to Argentina. Still playing volleyball. Became a setter for the national team. Missed you and all of out friends in between that. Now I’m back in Japan, in a car with you, on our way to Iwa’s wedding. Done!”
He finishes in a single breath, seeming completely proud of himself that he was about to squeeze that many words out in such a short amount of time. You frown, stopping the timer in your hand, “That wasn’t very detailed…”
“It wasn’t? Hm, seems detailed enough to me…I covered all the major events, didn’t I?”  Oikawa tilts his head to the side, fake confusion in lacing his voice. His gaze briefly lands on you, the confident, teasing smile returning on his face once he sees you frown, “Now, you have to turn down everyone who hits on you at the reception.”
“You know, I’m going to single forever because of you.” You scoff, pretending to be annoyed as you cross your arms in front of your chest. Really, you were impressed that managed to find a loophole out of that.
“Not necessarily, Yn.” His smile transforms into a softer, much fonder one, like he knew something that you didn’t. “I don’t think you’ll be single forever.”

12. If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?
Tumblr media
“If you say something lame like being able to fly or whatever superpower you have in your head right now, I’m stopping the car.” Oikawa warns, albeit playfully. He pushes the heart-shaped sunglasses up his hair and resting it on top of his head, a couple of strands managing to escape and settling on his forehead.
“What if I actually want a superpower when I wake up tomorrow?” You ask, reaching over to adjust the glasses so not a single strand of hair was out of place. Settling back in your seat, uneasy feeling overtakes you: why did you do that? You didn’t have to, and yet you did. It’s instinctive, almost too instinctive. You shake your head, trying to snap yourself out of your own thoughts. “You at least have to hear me out.”
“Fine. What lame power do you want?”
“Teleportation.”
Oikawa turns his head and blows a raspberry at you.
“Really mature, Oikawa.” Your roll your eyes, pretending to wipe off the non-existent saliva that landed on your cheek. “Let me explain.”
“There better be a really deep reason behind this or I’m not accepting your answer. Come on, I already told you not to put your walls so high up and-”
“It’s so I can visit you easily without having to sit through a twenty-three hour flight. You try sitting in a plane for that long and not get even a tiny bit irritable.” You cut him off, gently nudging his shoulders. You let out a chuckle when Oikawa simply blinks back at you, like he refused to believe that you had actually answered in such a sincere way. Keeping a light and somewhat teasing tone of voice, “Remember when you ended up staying at the airport for ten hours because you forgot my flight was delayed?”
Oikawa’s mind flashes back to five years ago, to several hours hunched over in a waiting area, trying to fight off the drowsiness and exhaustion that crept up his body. He turns to glance at you, knowing that he would do it all over again if he had to, remembering how it felt seeing you running towards him after years of being unable to see each other in person. Still, he lets a tone of defensiveness coat his words, “I was just really excited to see you, okay?”
“Mhmm.” You hum, actually believing him. For some reason, you couldn’t find it in yourself to leave your answer at just that. What if he misinterprets your answer? Is there even anything to misinterpret? Regardless, the idea of his ego inflating even more so now that you’ve said that he had been the reason for your answer just didn’t sit right with you. “Besides, I just want to travel around the world in general, you know? Going to all these breathtaking locations with the snap of my fingers…”
He nods, “Okay, good enough. I’ll accept your answer.”
“It’s not like I would have given you another answer anyways,” You roll your eyes, turning your head to face him, “What’s your answer?”
“Same as you. Teleportation.”
“That’s not fair!” You practically scream, feeling like you had just got cheated. “Why then?”
Oikawa smiles, a familiar glint in his yes, a flash of an emotion you can’t quite pin down, “I want to go to all those breathtaking places with you.”
“Oh.”
Tumblr media
“Hungry, Yn?”
“Starving.”
“Lucky for you, stopover’s just a couple of minutes away.”
“Good.”
“Be honest, now that we’re a third of the way done with the questions, how are you feeling…about me?”
“I feel…like I want you to drive quicker because I want to eat.”
“Oh boo.”
“Don’t poke your tongue at me. What are you, five?”
“You love me.”
