#‘my white friend gets called cracker white racism exists’

Note
My family believes that you cannot be racist towards white people, that they cannot be badly affected by slurs, and that whites have white privilege. I am really scared about speaking up against these beliefs and the BLM movement because I am worried that my family will call me a traitor and my friends will cut ties with me. I know you have lost some friends due to different political beliefs. What do I do?
"My family believes that you cannot be racist to white people,"
So, I assume racism based on personal actions as a whole doesn't exist? Otherwise... I hate to say it, but you have a family of hypocrites. While it wouldn't be any better, the consistency that racism on a personal level doesn't exist at all and only on a systemic level would have been a bit more tolerable.
"they cannot be badly affected by slurs,"
Well, they are half wrong, but still horrible. White people, on average, are more likely to laugh off slurs and mockery racial images. I'm not sure why this is exactly, though. I remember my mom crying from laughing so hard when she realized another implication for "cracker barrel."
But, this isn't to say you should still go around and call white people slurs. Have a jest and joke around, so long as you're not afraid to take what you dish out. Offensive humor is only good if both parties can equally take jabs at each other.
"and that whites have white privilege."
I'm sure my mom had white privilege when the black teachers and faculty staff turned a blind eye as the black students repeatedly sexually assaulted her. I'm sure my dad had white privilege when the school threatened to expel him because he threatened one of the teens. Or, what about in recent years, how most of my mom's family have fallen to poverty and drugs because, while the people around them (the minorities) get federal aid but they, my family, was denied help again and again and again because they were white and had "generational wealth."
We don't have a race privilege issue. We have a class privilege issue. Some white people are just as poor as some minorities, and some minorities are just as rich as some white people. We need to stop pitting us against each other based on race.
"What do I do?"
If you still want to be friends with these people, then I recommend you keep your opinions private and find a group of friends who you can discuss these opinions with. It's okay to not announce your opinions to your friends and family. It's become the norm to announce your politic and social opinions, and simultaneously expect everyone to agree with you. This isn't good. Unfortunately, many people can't handle differing opinions.
In some places I know without a doubt if I spoke my mind freely, I'd lose friends I've had for years, I play off being apolitical and just stressed from these chats. It works, mainly because these friends of mine are also in places we cannot be political in.
You can also set a boundary and state that further discussion on politics or BLM (can generalize as hate crimes as a whole) makes you feel stressed out and sad and would like to avoid them around you for the time being. Whenever they try again, just remind them of what you told them on your boundaries until they understand.

Things I’m too scared to post on Twitter because I’ll get bombarded with flames:
1. It’s not okay to be heterophobic(and I’m just learning this because a friend pointed it out). If people said “kill all the gays” it’s homophobic and wrong. When we say “kill all ths straights” it’s funny. See how if we reverse the roles it’s not funny anymore? We want to be treated equally, don’t we? And why blame it on us being a minority. Like okay, and? It’s still not okay.
2. Reverse-racism doesn’t exist, but you can be racist to white people. Racism doesn’t apply only to minorities. Like white people can be called crackers, mayo packets, and so many lther names that are supposed to be bad. Literally making fun of us, and it’s fine. When people call black people mocha or chocolate cake, it’s suddenly racist and bad? And most of the time(from my experience) people calling them mocha is more of a way to describe their skintone. Saying “black people are stupid” is racist, but saying “white people are stupid” is not. Why? Why aren’t we being held to the same standards?
3. Why do people instantly think I’m calling people ugly when I call them fat? Here’s an experience I had. I don’t know how we got onto it, but I said “well, my mom is fat” and my friend instantly went, “she’s beautiful!” And I was like “yeah? I never said she wasn’t” “she’s beautiful” “okay? I never called her ugly, I on,y said she was fat.” “No! She’s beautiful!” Like what? I’m literally telling the truth? She’s fat. She’s overweight. Like what do you want me to do. Call her skinny? She’s not. I’m not going to call people bigger because it sounds weird and it doesn’t make sense why I can’t say fat or overweight. Like haveyou ever noticed how people say “well were they.... bigger?” Like they ere trying to avoid something bad? Like avoiding the ter, fat and overweight is just gonna give it more power to it being bad. It’s not bad. It’s a descriptor. Stop avoiding it. It’s not calling someone ugly, it’s describing how they look. It is not bad and it is not good. It is merely a word used to describe.
4. Emoji pronouns. I’m sorry, but what? I’m all for making people comfortable and I’ll probably use emoji pronouns if you want me to, but why? I don’t understand. I don’t really understand noun pronouns, but I still use them to make people feel comfortable. I don’t understand why emojis. Like it’s actually making the community look like a joke. I’ve literally seen comments about how this reminds trans people of the attack helicopter deal. They don’t like it and I can agree that it sounds ridiculous. I’m sorry, but I don’t think it’s a good choice. At all.
5. Slurs. My opinion is that no one should say slurs. I don’t think black people should say the n-word, but that’s not my community so I’m not really supposed to have any opinion or say in it. I don’t think the LGBTQ+ community should use the f-slur or d-slur. I don’t think neurodivergent people should use the r-slur, but again I’m not really supposed to have an opinion or say in it. To me, if a word can only be said by certain people, then it should not be said at all. Again, this is just my take. I will not stop anyone from saying any slurs that they have reclaimed. The n-word is racist, yes I completely agree. Black people, and only black people can say the n-word. That’s also eacist in a way. It’s saying that only this group can say this. Only they are allowed. Yes, I get that the slur was used in a derogatory manner towards them, but the again, it’s also strange that they can say it. I find it uncomfortable and strange when other LGBTQ+ people say or call me the f-slur. I knkw that people are reclaiming ut, but it makes me uncomfortable. Like, “oh, I’m gonna say this to help strip away its power.” But they still get upset(rightfully so), when non LGBTQ+ people say it. Like sayinga word isn’t going to make it less offensive. It won’t be made less offensive until we all agree that everyone can say it. I don’t know if I explained that well, but that’s my take.
6. I saw someone make anime characters(specifically mha) black, and it made me uncomfortable. I’m gonna just outright say it. It made me uncomfortable. If someone made a black character white, all hell would break loose. If an asaim charactr was made white, all hell would break loose. Now I don’t lnow about if a black character was made asain, but I’m pretty sure some people would be made and calling them racist. But an Asain or white character is made black? Perfectly fine. I get it, there needs to be representation for black people in anime. But then again, shouldn’t there be representation of white people in anime? I haven’t watched much anime, but I’ve yet to see a white character. Like I agree that not only Asains live in Japan, so there needs to be representation. It’s not normal to only have one race in a story or place. I don’t really even know why it made me uncomfortable to be homest, but it did. Probably because if it were the other way around, it would be flames. Idk really.
7. People scream for representation of gays and poc, but when they get it they aren’t satisfied. Like you wanted gay characters for representation and when Netflix gives us gay characters, it’s suddenly “only to be a token gay” or to “be the gay one” or some stupid reason like that. Like WHAT? YOU wanted a gay character in shows. They are gay and all of a sudden it’s not good enough? And when people want more poc on shows. I completely understand, but also shouldn’t they be judged on theor acting to fit the part rather than being a poc?
8. There was no reason to riot. Literally just making things worse and causing violence. The riots are unnecessary. They won’t help. It’s wrong. It’s also gonna make it harder for you to get what you want. Stay peaceful. Stay kind. Jesus Christ don’t break things or hurt people.
I think that’s all for mow. And I cam already tell I,ma get hate. Oh well. It’s what I think.

@zecoralaxx I'm sorry for the length of this reply and not replying the post. Either I'm blocked by sombody or Tumblr is fucking with me... But yeah, I just wanted to cover all the bases. I honestly would like to hear your feedback and response. I rarely have anyone I disagree with actually open up and actually talk to me. If you don't want to, that's fine too, but I thank you for actually explaining your view on things.
I'll start on the European POC Community in Europe. Yes, there are definitely POCs in Europe and there have been for a while. However, historically, a majority of these fairy tales were passed from generation to generation by word of mouth in predominantly White Communities. These tales didn't simply become noteworthy when the Brothers Grimm collected them and published them. They already existed and were part of the culture in these communities. These are essentially the fabric of European story telling and the Fairy Tale Genre… Meaning these stories are part of White Culture. European Culture…
Now a few of the famous ones have actually been written and published by individual authors, like in this cause with Andersen's Little Mermaid tale. Regardless, a lot of these famous stories have been written by White Europeans, if not exclusively by White Europeans, where their audience is their own people. I do not think that POCs/Minorities are often thought about or written about in these tales mostly due to the fact that if they were their race in the story would have been pointed out for the audience to understand and recognize. How many Black People in the 1830s do you think would be walking around in Denmark? I honestly doubt any real sizable population of POCs lived in Denmark at the time.
So, again, the casting choice makes little to no sense. As for cultural appropriation I'm going to share two screenshots of an Ask I answered earlier. My comments will speak for themselves on the subject.

As for the question on if I've personally been mistreated, judged, and refused service because of my skin color, the answer is yes to nearly all of the above. I am a Military. I've been to Italy, Austria, and Japan. I lived in Italy and Japan for around 4 to 5 years each. In Italy I was too young to notice any sort of racism. In Japan I was significantly older, 8th grade - 10th grade, and definitely remember racism there. In Japan they if didn't like you, or want someone in their store or area that they didn't like, they would cross their arms in an X sign and that meant to go somewhere else. They won't serve you. That happened twice from what I could remember in Japan. I don't know if it was because of our skin color or Nationality, as Japan dislikes Foreigners, but regardless. I was denied solely on the basis of my appearance, and not talking about clothing.
I moved from Japan back to the US and I lived in a very small town where the racial ratio was extremely one sided. Whites/Others were the minorities in this town. It was a Black Majority town… The ratio for the highschool was 1 White/Other Kid to 3 Black Kids. While I was there I definitely noticed racial tension and my best friend was actually racially attacked in the locker rooms. To this day he hasn't told me what they did to him but he told me they were calling him all sorts of Hispanic Racial Slurs. (My friend was Puerto Rican.) There was definitely racism, as I did hear Black Kids calling White Kids Crackers, Cousin Fuckers, etc. Verbal stuff never really got on my nerves as they're just words, but after graduating Highschool I was searching for a job for upwards of 6 months.
I put an application in to everything in town that was available and when I finally got a job some of my Black Highschool friends told me that they were surprised that I'd gotten a job. I asked them why and they told me that the General Manager of the place I landed a job at did not like White People. In fact, I was the only White Person that worked there for several months… and I knew people were also applying but weren't getting the job. It made me wonder about the other businesses in town. Did they not hire me because I was white? There were also places my Black Friends told me to not go into as White People weren't welcome. Oh, there was also one time that I was told by a couple of black dudes that I wasn't allowed to wear a certain brand. It didn't belong to me. (That in another school though in another state.)
I won't even mention the racism online because I don't think that counts but yeah.
So... The bottom line is, it is a double standard because it doesn't matter what happened in the past. We cannot change it, and I REFUSE to pay for crimes or actions that my ancestors did. I am NOT responsible for any of that and I will never will be. I will condemn any and all sorts of racism, sexism, homophobia, and any sort of exclusionary and oppressive behaviors that White People commit today, but I am not responsible for their actions either. If you are going to hold an entire race accountable for the actions of only a few members or groups of that race, then I will turn the arguement back around on the Black Community, as what is being mostly discussed here. The crime rates, gun violence, gang violence, and so on... Are you personally responsible for the crimes that people who look like you commit? What about Child Soldiers in Africa? Are you responsible? Of course not. Why should I be held accountable then for my race when everyone else isn't? What about Japan and their Great Rapes in WWII? Thousands upon thousands of women and children of China and all other Asian Countries surrounding it were targets of rape, slavery, and torture... They slaughtered MILLIONS of Chinese and used their babies as target practice and bayonet practice... Yet you don't hear about that do you...? Okay... This last bit was a bit of a random rant but... There we have it. I'll stop there.

For anyone who says that reverse racism doesn't exist, I was at my flat and my black flatmate (I'm a white guy) had all his black friends over. They all grabbed me and forced me to eat a whole 2 bags of grated white cheddar while calling me a cracker. They said if I reported them that they'd accuse me of being racist. Now every time I see a bag of grated cheese I get flashbacks of that day.

Racism and supremacism
Racism, it's a huge topic, there's many perspectives and you will be manipulated by a lot of events throughout your life. It could be at home, such as your parents opinions on the topic itself or the political parties they vote on who has a special opinion on it themselves. It could be at school by your closest friends, teachers or classes. Honestly, in my opinion social studies was the worst subject I've ever had. Mostly because I always felt like this class wasn't about your awareness of how society and politics works, no it was more about what is wrong and what is right, who are you allowed to vote for and who are you not allowed to vote for. One thing we had to sit through, was the glorified term "Social norms". I hated this term. Why you might ask? I simply don't agree with a lot of people on how a society should function, you see I think it's perfectly fine to use swear words as long as they're justified and not abused to degrade others.
Anyways, back to our main topic, racism. As mentioned it's a huge topic. There's a lot of opinions about it.
NOTE: this is MY opinion and you shouldn't use this post as a manifest. If you don't agree with me, that's totally fine, but if you're outraged by my posts I would NOT recommend you to write a whole paragraph about it, but simply just ignore me and my opinions completely
So, now that I have written this disclaimer I want to start talking about today's topic, racism
In my opinion it shouldn't even be a thing. Humans are humans. They come in pretty much in all shapes and forms. Small, tall, thick, thin, and you could keep listing items for all eternity.
But, I absolutely HATE the when someone says "Black people can't be racist" and yes, I use the word "black people" the same way as people say "white people" or "asian people". Because if saying someone is "black" or "brown" is racist, so is saying "white people".
I travel a lot, and I have been to countries where the majority of the population was "black" and they love call "white" tourists and residents "ghosts" or "vanilla". Of course there's the ones who say it in a jokey way, of course that's not racist, because the definiton of racism is when someone discriminate another race, thinking their own race is superior, but there's also the ones who spit at, cuss or threaten them.
And no, I'm not saying that black people is aggressive and rob people in general. There's no denying that all races commits crimes and "blacks" don't commit crimes more than any other race.
As mentioned earlier I think that the term "race" shouldn't even be a thing. At least not when talking about humans. I don't really care when it comes to animals, but I will use the word "race" to express myself, because it is easier.
The next thing I would like to talk about is stereotypes.
If I had to talk about all the "races" it would take forever, because you could keep dividing humans until you have over 7 billion categories, so I will only be talking about the 3 biggest in my opinion. White/caucasian, black/ethiopian and asians/mongolians
The "races" has a lot of stereotypes. Asians are usually connected with small weenies, squinted eyes and fixated with math and other science related subjects. These stereotypes are of course not necessarily true, but some of them actually have some depth. If I should take a guess, I would say that the reason for people making the connection between asians and being good at math and etc. is because Asia are one of the leading in technology and they're a huge competition for the western economy.
There's also cases of these "races" having some characteristic features. The asians have something called "The Asian flush syndrome", but let me just say that it's not only asians who suffer from this, but the majority is asians. The reason why I'm only talking about Asians in this case is simply that they have certain laws created because of this condition. So, if you don't know what this "Asian flush syndrome" is it's basically a error in the body, so that you can't disolve alcohol as you normally would. The cause of this is simply located in the 12th chromosome and what it does is unable to produce the enzyme called ADH1B, this affect around 80 percent of the Asian population and about 30 percent of those 80 experience these "Alcohol flushs" which is a side effect of it that can cause serious rash and a higher risk of getting esophageal cancer, when drinking.
Back when the blacks still were slaves they were usually portrayed as having big red lips, big ears, little to no money and savages. Today the only one of those that still apply as a stereotype is the little to no money, but that's simply not true. I would agree that more black and asian people live in poverty than whites, but there's a good fair amount of wealthy black people. Forbes magazine actually made a list called "Black billionaires" which is updated every year and in 2019 there nothing less than 15 black billionaires. If you look at the top 100 wealthiest people in the world you wouldn't see a single black, only whites and asians, that may be because there's still a wage/payment gap in most of the world.
I would like to split the white stereotype into two sections. In the first I will be talking about the "hipster white" and in the other I will be talking about the "redneck/cracker white"
The "white hipster" stereotype as I would like to call it is that white people all drink coffee at Starbucks or at some other coffee or juice bar and like are very artistic, doing stuff like drawing, singing, but not dancing, dear god no. But, can you see where this is headed? All of these are mainly positive thing almost like they're made up by someone who actually is a non-artistic white themselves and don't have that much brain capacity
The "redneck/cracker" white on the other hand sounds way more like it's been made by someone who's not white, of course I can't possibly know that, but again this is what I think. The typical "redneck/cracker white" is lazy, originates from either America or the UK, does a lot of incest, royalty included, and has weapons enough to start a small army. Some of these people do exist, but of course it's not every white who is like that, but to be serious though there has been a lot of incest in the royal white families.
Supremcism, it's oftenly confused with racism. The difference is that if you're racist, you're automatically a supremacist, but if you're a supremacist you're not necessarily racist. Being a supremacist is basically thinking one demographic is better than the other for example sex, height, age, race or religion. So, a supremacist can be put out in three major categories which is sexists, racists and fundamentalists. Sexism is when one gender think they're superior to the other. Racism is when a race thinks they're superior to another and fundamentalism is when someone with a certain belief, such as christianity thinks they're superior to another, and I know these are named individually, such as antisemitism are aversion or discrimination of jews.
The next thing I want to talk about are major "cults" as I will call them, but I will mainly be focusing on the KKK or the Ku Klux Klan.
The KKK or Ku Klux Klan is an white supremacist hate group and their main occupation is harrasing and killing black people, even though they also have some strong beliefs on other topics, such as christianity. The Klan can be split into three sections and three eras.
The first section/era was between 1865 and 1871. It was created by confederate veterans. The first Klan was very superstitious and thought they were sent by some strong entity to fulfill some kind of purpose. In 1870 the law finally began striking down on the Klan, making them pay for they actions. Still, the Klan was very effective weakening the black political establishment.
The second KKK was established in 1915 and ended in 1944 and it had between 3 to 6 million members. It was founded by William Joseph Simmons. He created it through documents of the old Klan, intel from surviving members and the film The Birth of a Nation by D. W. Griffith. He were the one to introduce the white hoods and burning of crosses. Some of the things the Klan stood for was prohibition, which is the ban of production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages, anti Catholicism, nativism and abduction, rape and murder of blacks, jews and catholics. In 1923 the Klan split into two groups, the one created by Simmons and another by D.C. Stephenson. But the one by D.C. Stephenson quickly faded because of his conviction for the abduction, rape and murder of Madge Oberholtzer. Another thing to consider is that law enforcement and politicians backed up the KKK in this period, some did, but of course not everyone.
The third KKK, the one that is present, started in 1946 and it has between 5 to 8 thousand members. In the late 40's law enforcement was still being manipulated by the KKK, but mainly in the south, such as in Birmingham, Alabama. In the early 60's the KKK was quite occupied, with lynching blacks, killing civil right workers in Mississippi in 1964 and the bombing of the Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, 1963.
Today the KKK isn't something we hear much of, but they still exist today. They don't have control of whole police departments and political parties as they used to, but surely someone could hypothetically have ties to the police and political members.
I might make updates on this topic later on, talking about companies who use racism as a defence, so nobody can talk badly of them.
There will be a post next monday, but I'm not quite sure what to talk about, so I would appreciate if you could comment something you could be interested in.
Have a good monday.
