The wrong groom II
Pairing: Ivar the boneless x female reader
Word count: ~ 2.700
Warnings: Animal sacrifice, the family abandon the reader
The words of King Ragnar still echo in your ears, an unknown joy rises in you when you realize that your request has been heard and that you would soon be the wife of Prince Ivar. However, this feeling of happiness is short-lived, a glance at your father shows you that he appears to be anything but happy about your decision. He sits on his throne, a frown lingering on his face, fingers digging deeply into the uneven wood of the armrests, while the corners of his mouth twitch suspiciously. The coldness in his voice makes you wince as he addresses the word to King Ragnar.
"I wish to speak with my daughter in private."
Not a single emotion can be read on his face as he fixes you with his gaze, yet the tone of his voice tells you all you need to know. He is angry. Incredibly angry.
"As you wish. In the meantime, I will seek out my sons to inform them of the changes."
Ragnar gives you a warm, reassuring smile before nodding briefly to your father while making his way out of the throne room, your eyes following his every proud move of his. Only when the heavy wooden doors fall shut and the whole hall is filled with an almost disturbing silence, you turn to your father. He is still sitting on his throne, deep wrinkles cover his forehead and make him look even older.
"Father..."
"Silence!"
Immediately you swallow your words. Never before has your father spoken to you like this, never before has he sounded so disappointed and angry at any of your actions. Your eyes turn towards the floor, but the soft crunching sound of the wooden throne lets you know that your father has risen from it. Just a few seconds later, you can hear his footsteps approaching you. This causes you to lift your head and look at him with feigned confidence. His normally warm brown eyes are filled with a coldness you never thought possible, his whole face contorted into a hard mask.
For a brief moment, you simply look into each other's eyes, and shortly after that , all you can hear is the slapping of skin on skin. Bewildered, you look at your father, one of your hands finding its way to your now reddened. stinging cheek. Never before has your father raised his hand against you. Not ever, until this moment. Tears well up in your eyes, whether for pain or anger you can't tell yourself at this moment. The shock lingering deeply in your bones.
"You ungrateful little brat. How dare you?"
You wince, his frigid tone feeling like a whip is striking down on your skin.
"How dare you embarrass me like this in front of King Ragnar? How can you doubt my decision in front of him?"
Your hands begin to tremble as you remove them from your cheek, yet you try to justify your decision.
"But father, all that mattered was that I marry one of the princes, and that I do."
"You doubted my decision, and you did so in front of the most powerful Northman we have ever dealt with. How can he now believe that I can command our army, and be a fearless reder, when not even my own daughter listens to me and respects me."
"But father, I respect you."
"Don't you ever dare say that again when your actions clearly speak to the contrary. Your mother was right from the beginning, I should not have been so lenient with you. I should have been more strict, more firm."
A brief silence falls over you as your father seems to search for the right words.
"I will tell King Ragnar that you will leave my kingdom this very day."
Your heart begins to pound furiously, one of your hands reaching for the cross pendant around your neck.
"But what about the wedding?"
"You will not marry this prince in the presence of my god. Sigurd I could still have coped with. But not this bloodthirsty cripple. If you want to marry him, marry him before his war-obsessed gods."
"But father..."
But before you can finish your sentence, your father has turned his back on you.
"Go pack your things, I'll let you know when you sail."
Tears well up in your eyes, in a last desperate attempt you reach out your hand to your father, wanting to put it on his shoulders. But as soon as it comes to rest there, he shakes it off in a jerky movement and moves even further away from you in quick steps.
With a heavy heart, you climb the stone stairs to your room, your vision blurred by your tears, but you realize that there is no time to lose if the ship is to leave for Kattegat tonight.
You have already stowed most of your possessions in cloth bags, when all at once the door to your room crashes against the stone wall behind it with a loud noise. Abruptly you turn towards the door.
"(y/n), tell me is it true what my father told me? You want to marry me instead of Sigurd?"
A silent nod from you is all Ivar gets in response. A beaming smile spreads across his otherwise serious face as he approaches you with the help of his crutches. With each step he takes toward you, his smile seems to grow even wider, so that when he finally stands before you, his entire face lights up. This changes, however, when he sees the tears in your eyes. Lovingly, he brushes the remaining traces of tears from your cheek.
"What happened?"
The concern is clear in his eyes.
"My father has decided that I am a disgrace to the family because of my decision to prefer to marry you instead of Sigurd, so I will sail with you to Kattegat as early as tonight."
After your words, the concern in his gaze turns to anger.
"You are not a disgrace just for sharing your desire. I for one am proud of you, and I am honored that I may soon call myself your husband and we will build a life together. You're as strong as Freya and just as beautiful."
His words cause a slight smile to appear on your lips, yet sadness at your father's reaction and words prevails at this moment.
"Thank you Ivar. But I can't really be happy about it right now."
"Of course my love, but believe me, the day will come when you can."
"I hope so..."
Ivar leans his crutch against your bed before pulling you against him in a careful motion, your head immediately burying itself in the crook of his neck as your fingers dig into the soft fabric of his shirt. You feel him press a gentle kiss to the top of your head before resting his chin on the crown of your head.
"Do you want me to help you with anything?"
"No thanks, I'd rather be alone for the last while."
"As you wish my princes, I'll help my brothers get the ships ready."
With a quick kiss on your cheek, he disappears from your chamber. Again, a stifling silence spreads through your chamber, yet this is exactly what you need at the moment.
Your heart breaks when, you realize that none of your family has come to say goodbye to you, when you find yourself standing in front of the Northmen's ships, a few hours later.
None of them thought it necessary to bid you farewell. With your head drooping, you stride towards the large wooden ship and a short time later, you no longer feel the solid ground of the earth beneath you, but the damp wooden planks of the ship, which is swung back and forth by the waves in slight movements. A gentle arm tightens you  against a firm chest, the sudden warmth making you tremble.
"All will be well, my love."
Ivar presses a kiss to the top of your head as his arm wraps around your stomach a little tighter, giving you reassurance as the boat starts to move in steady motions. With tears in your eyes, you watch as your home becomes smaller and smaller the further you move away from it, as you put more and more distance between you and the people you thought would always love you. But they are your past and Ivar is your future. With these thoughts you tear your gaze away and turn in your fiancé's arms to look up at him. His blue eyes seem even bluer due to the water that surrounds you, a slight smile is on his lips, yet you can clearly see the concern in his eyes. You notice the puzzled looks of the other Northmen upon you as he thoughtfully brushes a loose strand of hair behind your ear, but you don't really pay attention.
"Yes. Yes it will my love."
You intertwine your hands in his neck and pull his face down to you a little to press a tender kiss to his soft lips. All while King Ragnar watches the both of you with fond eyes.
Life in Kattegat is a marked change from your previous life, but you try to come to terms with it as best you can. The pain of your family's rejection  still deep inside you, but you try not to let it show. In a few days you will be a princess of the Vikings, so it is time to act like one.
Closely embraced by Ivar's strong arms, you lie next to him on your bed, a matter that would have been unimaginable in your previous life. The furs on the bed give you warmth, the closeness to each other security. You run your index finger over the drawings on his now so familiar bare chest. A light laugh escapes you.
"Why are you laughing dearest?"
His warm voice snaps out of your thoughts, a small smile adorning his lips.
"I was just thinking about how I reacted the first time you undressed in front of me."
The memory of that, elicits a hearty laugh from Ivar as well.
"I've never seen anyone press their hands to their eyes as fast and hard as you did at this moment. And all because of a naked man."
"You are the first man I have ever seen naked, I was just surprised."
"I still don't understand what your God has against people seeing each other naked before they  get married and even after that."
"That way, you're not tempted to perform intercourse before marriage."
Not long ago, all of this made sense to you, but ever since you caught a glimpse of Ivar's muscular body, you've begun to doubt it. Yet, in all this time, he has accepted your desire to wait until your wedding night to do so.
Your answer to his question elicits only an incomprehensible snort before he presses a kiss to your nose and pulls you a little closer to his warm chest.
A comfortable silence spreads in your chamber, which you break only a few minutes later.
"How exactly will our wedding go?"
As always when you ask a question about the Northmen's ways, a breathtaking smile creeps onto his lips.
"We will meet under a large wooden arch in which the writings of the gods are carved, to give us blessing. There, the volva will already be waiting for us to confirm our marriage."
"Volva?"
"A volva is a sorceress, Freya herself gave her these gifts, to help us, the gods often speak to us through them. There are also men who practice magic, the Seidmadr. But women are more skilled and powerful at using these abilities, which is why we prefer a Volva to a Seidmadr."
With a short nod you indicate to Ivar that you have perceived his words. After a brief kiss on the top of your head, he continues.
"Before the actual ceremony begins, we make offerings to our gods. Thus, one sacrifices a goat for Thor, a pig for Freya and a horse for Freyr. The animals are bled and later the meat is eaten at the feast. This is how we make sure the union is in the favor of the gods."
Your stomach turns at the thought of having to watch animals being slaughtered, but you try not to let it show.
"Then the man hands the woman an axe or a sword to show her that he will protect her until the gods call them to Valhalla. The woman does this only if she is a Shieldmaiden, which is not the case in our wedding. Then we testify our love before the gods and ask them for their protection and favor. Afterwards we have a great feast, with food and drink and music."
Your voice is quiet as you address the next question to Ivar.
"And what is expected of us on our wedding night?"
Ivar immediately notices that you are having a hard time asking this question, so is especially happy that you are doing it.
"Nothing is expected of us my love. If you want to consummate the marriage we will, if you don't feel ready we will wait."
Relief spreads through your body as you hear Ivar's words. The pressure disappears from your shoulders as you realize that he is ready to take on everything at your pace. With each day you spend with Ivar, you can understand less why so many people are afraid of him.
"Thank you."
Your eyes meet his, light blue orbs beaming lovingly at you.
"For you always."
A few days later, the time has come. Wrapped in a simple, white, floor-length dress, you stand in your shared room while one of the servants stands on her tiptoes to place a crown of white, yellow and purple wildflowers on your head. Anticipation and excitement mix together in the pit of your stomach as you spin around once, watching the dress sway with your movement. The shy voice of a servant snaps you out of your movement.
"It's time princess."
You give her a smiling nod before grabbing the fabric of the dress with your hands to lift it slightly off the ground. Accompanied by your maids, you make your way to the said place.
Even from afar you can see the crowd, all of Kattegat has come together to witness the wedding of their youngest prince, with the unknown princess from a distant land. Immediately you can feel their eyes on you, some of them still reflecting a certain wariness towards you and your God, others giving you a warm smile. The children give you looks of admiration as you walk past them. But the gaze that is most important to you, beams at you full of dignity and love, his eyes gliding over your form again and again, taking in every detail of your shape.
"You are beautiful, my love."
Are the first words you hear when you finally stand next to him. You notice your cheeks heating up, yet you hold his gaze.
"Thank you, dearest."
The ceremony proceeds just as Ivar had explained it to you, the sacrificial animals are brought up to you. Your stomach turns as they are offered as sacrifices to the gods and their blood is collected in an iron bowl. While words in a language not yet known to you are directed heavenward. Nevertheless, you bravely keep your eyes on the events before you, proving to the last doubters that you have it in you to be a true Viking. Afterwards, Ivar hands you his battle axe and with this gesture promises to protect and honor you until the end of his life.
Finally, the Volva takes the bowl with the animal blood in her hand and sinks her fingers into it, before she spreads the blood on Ivar and you. You feel the blood run over your face in warm, thick streams. Afterwards, you and Ivar seal your love with a long, passionate kiss. The gods and the people of Kattegat are thus witnesses to a long and happy marriage, of a union that will last even in Vallahlla.

Here's yet another BSD OC I've been meaning to introduce since last year but alas, free time grows ever so scarce. She's inspired by Haruko Enomoto - mostly notably known as Haruko Kunikida, Doppo Kunikida's second wife and novelist!
Her ability is a reference to one of Haruko's works, True Heart. More info under the Read More break~
Kanji: 榎本治子 Rōmaji: Enomoto Haruko
Personal Information Gender: Female Age: 24 Birthday: August 7th Height: 162cm Blood type: O Likes: Flower arranging, drinking at kyabakura, fish tempura Dislikes: Unplanned events, improper use of the law, condescension
Professional Information Occupation: Private Investigator Affiliation: Yokohama Police Department
Voice Actors Japanese: Mamiko Noto
Ability
True Heart (真ごころ, Magokoro) reveals the truth in an affected person's words as well as their connections to other parties, be those personal, professional and/or criminal.
When activated, Haruko's ability will allow her to see the affected person's words as bright blue visual writing in front of her eyes, much similar to a projection. Anything colored in red, no matter how small it is of a detail, is 100% a lie, even if the remaining of the sentence is colored normally.
If she chooses to further investigate the person in question by 'searching their heart', her ability will show her their involvement with other people through projected lines that connect one to another; the color of the connecting line is indicative of what kind of relationship it is. As much as it intrudes on people's privacy, showing even personal relationships no matter how much of a secret those are, this has been a key trait of Haruko's ability that has aided her on solving many cases before in which multiple criminal parties were allied to each other.
When in use, True Heart will turn Haruko's eyes a brighter blue with scarlet-colored pupils and irises ends. There are no exceptions to the effect of Haruko's ability other than herself and Osamu Dazai.
Personality
Haruko is a down-to-earth, level-headed woman. Her usual composure when at work usually tricks others into thinking she's the stern type but once she's off her shift and breaks character, her joyful and good-humored personality shines through. She eases up the most while drinking at her favorite kyabakura, especially if in the company of a drinking buddy, becoming chatty and endearingly silly.
Extremely adaptable, despite her overall considerate and caring nature, she's not one to be lenient with the unjust and will seek to punish those accordingly.
She carries a stationery store-bought small notebook on her at all times whose notable features are its flower-print cover embellished with the word 理想 (Risou, Ideal) in golden letters. In a similar fashion to Kunikida, Haruko is into scheduling and planned routines albeit hers are much more flexible than his. That didn't stop them from hitting it off as soon as they met however, quickly bonding over their shared interest. Now and then she changes notebooks once they run out of pages to write in, but the flower-print cover and golden writing are always a must-have for her.
As a police department employee, she's proficient with handling firearms and has remarkable physical combat skills, being well-versed in mixed martial art styles such as taekwondo and kickboxing. Her strongest traits are her endurance and willpower.
Backstory
In the original story's timeline, Haruko is first introduced rather early on but becomes more relevant as a character during the events of the Sky Casino arc. She works as a private investigator under her senior officer, Minoura, as he's the only one who knows about her ability and keeps it a secret since the use of those without a permit is considered taboo. Given that the information she finds thanks to her ability always leads her to uncovering actual, relevant clues and evidences in the cases she has solved, no one has ever suspected a thing.
However, it was exactly because of her ability that she was one of the few people that doubted the truth imposed by The Book when reality was altered to frame the ADA as a terrorist group, to the point of questioning her own judgment when no one else did. This state of unrest led her to conducting an investigation on her own, trying to find loose ends whilst staying out of the police's sights in order not to be accused of coniving with the ADA. After all, she believed in their innocence thanks to their previous collaborations with the Police Department, having personally met and inspected most of its members with her ability.
She's finally able of making a breakthrough once Ranpo shows himself on broadcast; while that geared the people affected by The Book to think for themselves and see the situation more clearly, that allowed Haruko to use her ability on Ranpo and not only confirm everything he said was true, but also gave her some leads to follow, cueing her into investigating the Decay of Angels more closely. She's come very close to finding out Kamui's real identity thanks to that.
Currently, she's helping the Police Department deal with the aftermath of the vampire outbreak.
Trivia
🌸 Similar to her irl counterpart, Haruko comes from a financially poor background. When younger, she lived in a humble village and made a living off flower arranging lectures, only moving in to the city after getting her job in the Police Department to support herself. Nowadays, flower arranging is one of her favorite hobbies as it gives her a warm feeling of nostalgia. 🌸 She can hold her alcohol pretty well but if she drinks to the point of becoming too drunk, she'll start crying over pointless things (like how one time she saw a mother goose with its young trailing after and thought it was very cute, for example). 🌸 Despite Haruko's dainty appearance, she's physically stronger than she looks. Rumor has it that she's able of effortlessly lifting Kunikida off the ground regardless of him being comically much taller than her. When asked, he neither confirms nor denies the claim. 🌸 As expected of someone in an investigative career, she's clever, with a good sense of responsibility and a keen intuition when it comes to predicting outcomes in the cases handed to her. Such adeptness paired with her ability make Haruko an obnoxious foe to face head on. 🌸 Even if the concept of ideals draws her in, she mostly relies on a very personal, strong sense of loyalty and duty rather than idealized courses of action. 🌸 Much like Kunikida, she does have a 'requirements list' for an ideal partner and even with her list not being as extensive as his, he still does not fit all requirements. That didn't stop them from falling in love anyway, as she does not fit all of his requirements either - being 4 short of being a perfect match to the list.

ppl argue that Vader is “redeemed”— I guess I can see where they’re coming from, but really I think Vader is forgiven by Luke, and the narrative is kind enough to forgive him too. This is helped, of course, by the prequel storylines and our extensive understanding of Anakin’s character, which is that rarely was Anakin presented with very many choices, and he often chose wrong when he was, sometimes out of anger but mostly out of a very intense love and desire to protect those around him that he cared about. They don’t say that “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” for nothing, after all. Luke seems to understand his father at one point thought he was doing what was right, and has the kindness to forgive him, but not absolve him of all crime. The original trilogy, being largely about Luke and generally following Luke’s feelings, offers Vader a lenient sentence for a lifetime of crime. For example, you might expect that if Han was the ‘main character’ you’d be presented with an entirely different point of view. Even Leia at the end of rotj— knowing full well her father is Anakin/Vader and her brother is hosting his funeral pyre— doesn’t seem to care, laughing and enjoying the Ewok party, and she doesn’t have to care. We aren’t mad at Leia for presumably not feeling the same way about her father that Luke does. Thus my argument is that Vader is forgiven by Luke after a selfless act which saves the latter’s life, not washed of all sin and guilt from the narrative. Anakin and Vader are the same person, condemned to death to deal with the sum of his choices, but forgiven by a son who loves him, who he died for.
This is where the sequels fail to convince me I should offer the same treatment to Kylo Ren. In a film trilogy that largely ends up being about him (much to my and many others chagrin), I rarely find myself understanding why he repeated chooses evil. Perhaps in tfa the lines from Leia about snoke whispering to him as a child were meant to imply he’s been being corrupted since birth, but in theory when snoke is killed in tlj, shouldn’t Kylo’s behavior also become altered? As in, he should be able to think more clearly about his decisions? There’s wobbly logic throughout— in tfa Leia says it’s snoke, in tfa Kylo claims his choices are largely motivated by the fact he worships his grandfather, then in tlj the narrative tries to push us to sympathize with him by telling us Luke tried to kill him (at 23, btw— common misconception that the incident happened in his childhood, which it did not).
Arguably, if I were to be led to believe snoke corrupted “Ben”, then the events of tlj— wherein Kylo kills snoke yet remains Kylo instead of reverting to Ben— suggest Kylo actively is choosing evil of his own volition. If I were to believe Kylo is acting out because he idolizes his grandfather, Vader, then Kylo is actively seeking to chose evil of his own volition. If I were to believe Luke attempting to kill “Ben” caused Kylo’s fall, I would still believe Kylo is choosing evil simply to choose evil, seeing as how an attempt on your life is scarring, but not grounds to murder others. Where Anakin’s misguided actions were motivated by fear of those he loves being hurt, Kylo… kind of just seems like he wants to be bad. All of this would be fine, compelling even, as a villain, but outside of tfa, the narrative absolutely refuses to let Kylo be what he wants to be— a villain!
For some reason, starting in tlj, the audience is repeatedly expected to excuse Kylo’s behavior. Sympathizing with an antagonist isn’t always bad, per say, but it generally comes with some sort of buy-in as to why we should care. Absent that, it kind of just seems like the narrative is bending over backwards to forgive a guy who doesn’t really seem to want forgiveness. Mutilating Rey’s character in particular to have her insist there’s good in him when he never hesitates to stalk, physically or emotionally torture, or gaslight her any chance he gets becomes baffling. Unlike Luke with Vader, she really has no reason to care this much about Kylo, or even believed Kylo IS CAPABLE of earning her forgiveness— so the narrative starts spewing more ridiculous premise to try and force a reason for her to forgive him, when he’s done nothing to indicate he WANTS to be forgiven. Though subtle, even Vader visibly has hesitation when confronting Luke— he deals him serious blows, but no where near what we know is the extent of his power. Kylo doesn’t hold back from hurting Rey any chance he gets.
Also bizarrely in comparison to Vader, Kylo is weirdly absolved of his responsibility regarding the devastation the first order has caused and allowed to revert back to “Ben” before actually facing any consequences in terms of story. It comes down to this: he is stabbed, hallucinates his father (who canonically CANNOT be a force ghost— Han in tros is NOT a force ghost, supported by both his lack of glowing blue appearance and the fact that Han doesn’t have the force), hallucinates his father forgiving him and thus forgiving himself via Han’s imagined proxy, then is suddenly Ben again. He has made no choice up to this point which allows us as an audience to understand why he deserves forgiveness from others— just an abrupt 180 in character. It comes off clunky and gauche because it is; Kylo, after a lifetime of choosing evil willingly, using his autonomy to hurt others and gain power for himself, suddenly thinks better of it for no reason. We as the audience are suddenly also expected to do a very quick 180– see! He’s good now! It is no where near as natural as seeing Luke’s journey with Vader because there is no realistic way to interpret the scene; we are forced as the audience to accept this random new “Ben” character as if he’s a different person— an affliction I might also add that doesn’t befall Anakin until he dies, meaning we see a broken Anakin still scarred and wheezing in the Vader suit— again, lasting, permanent effects of his behavior. Where as Kylo is just suddenly “Ben”— new wardrobe, no facial scarring. As if woken from some sort of trance that narratively speaking, if you wanted me to be more compelled, he should have woken from a whole film ago. It’s as if nothing he did as Kylo mattered at all, which is nigh impossible to accept when it involves literal genocide. It’s implied at the end of tlj that he Made. His. Choice. by not only remaining with the first order after snoke is slain but becoming the supreme leader!
In fact it’s the entire opposite of Vader— Vader rises up against his master and chooses to save his son. Kylo rises up against his master and chooses to clench power for himself.
I could only dream of a world where tros was brave enough to allow Kylo what he wants— to be truly corrupted and evil. I could only dream of a world where the sequels explored the impact and importance of that choice, and how to confront an evil that is no longer forgivable

French President Emmanuel Macron's government is in crisis after opposition parties united to defeat a key immigration bill.
MPs from the far right, far left and moderate parties voted on Monday to reject the draft law.
The left argued its measures were too repressive, while the right said they were not tough enough.
Following the defeat, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin offered to step down.
Viewed as a hardliner on immigration issues, he had strongly supported the draft law. However, Mr Macron rejected his resignation.
The government argued the bill would both control immigration and better integrate migrants.
The bill would have made it easier for the government to expel migrants who are sentenced to prison sentences of five years or longer and would have made it more difficult for migrants to bring family members to France.
It was, however, significantly more lenient than a draft proposed by the Senate, the upper house of parliament dominated by the right, which would have severely reduced access to healthcare and benefits for migrants.
Before the vote, Mr Darmanin said on X (formerly Twitter) that, if passed, the bill would allow the government to deport "very dangerous" foreign nationals, including drug dealers.
But his efforts to convince opposition MPs to back him failed when disparate factions voted for a motion to reject the bill. MPs from the far-right National Rally joined those from the far-left France Unbowed, the right-wing Republicans and smaller parties to defeat the government by 270 votes to 265.
Before the vote, Arthur Delaporte, an MP for the Socialist party, said his party would vote against the bill as it was "unjust, scandalous and a threat to freedom".
Mr Macron's centrist Renaissance party lost its a majority in parliament in elections in June 2022. Since then, the government has frequently found itself unable to win votes in parliament.
The government has said it will now seek to redraft the bill. A measure used by Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne to pass laws without a vote cannot be used to clear this version.

Castis doesn’t seek Lora out; he watches as his granddaughters brush their teeth, fills glasses of water for them both (preemptively, so they cannot use it as an excuse to leave bed), and tucks them both in, knowing that there’s a good chance one of them will sneak out of their room to join their sister in bed, and, as he usually does, he’ll pretend he cannot hear the pitter patter of little feet on the hardwood.
The door closes and he sits in the living room and turns on a documentary he’d been watching about disputed territory between two nations on Earth that did not wind up in hostilities, aside from a decades-long exchange of culturally-appropriate liquor. Blasto walks in, staring longingly at the couch, and he sighs at the dog. “I trained you better than this.”
In response, Blasto whines at him so he pats the cushion beside him and the dog jumps up and lies down next to him, resting her chin on his leg. “I am growing too lenient with you, and we risk you becoming undisciplined,” he says to the dog, who looks up at him with her big, brown eyes, so he scratches her behind the ear, thinking about how loudly Ceci would laugh if she saw him letting a pet cuddle on the furniture.

You know what? I'll say it. Conservatives are right. It's not fair that Joe Biden is getting away with helping Hunter with his criminal practices, while the government is actively seeking legal action against Trump.
I do, however, think the guy who tried to overthrow the government and establish himself dictator by instigating a violent coup, and actively and knowingly withheld government files is more dangerous to national security and global peace than the guy who helped organize and most likely fund his son's illegal business practices and aided in his tax evasion. And therefore, Trump should be made top priority of the two (unless new, worse charges involving Biden come to light).
That being said, both have done illegal things for immoral reasons and they both should be held reasonably accountable for them.
Trump faces up to 641 years for conspiracy to commit treason et. al; Hunter Biden faces up to 10 years for tax fraud (...a similar sentence to Al Capone sentenced for the exact same thing, of 11 years), Joe Biden would face less for aiding and abetting at about 5 years and a 100,000 fine.
Now I am nothing but fair! I think charging Trump independently for all 32 classified file he withheld is a bit bogus; let's say that's one charge —that group of charges alone goes from 320 years to 10. Again let's say the hush money to the porn star should also a single charge that goes from 140 years to 5 years. Let's be extra lenient and say that his obstruction of official proceedings is also one charge. That goes from 40 to 20 years. And again for his obstruction of justice, from six charges to just one, goes from 120 to 20. And one count of for conspiracy against the right to vote for another 10 years. Lets group his false statements together going from 10 to 5. One count of defrauding the United States for another 5
10+5+20+20+10+5+5 = 75 That's still 75 years Trump is facing!
Their crimes are not comparable.

Today I'm Thinking About...
I've been so busy I haven't been able to keep up on this even thought I'm definitely Still Thinking About Things but I do want to get back to it but I really shouldn't now BUT I love last night's idea SO MUCH that I'm going to scrawl down at least a few words of it.
(note for various trigger warnings, but this is 2ha and if you've read the book, well, it's no tws that weren't in the novel. except the mentions of drug use/addiction, I guess)
Modern 2ha AU where Mo Ran has a really messy teen years/young adulthood. (read more)
His first crush, Shi Mei, ends up drawing him into a lot of toxic behavior, coerced sex work, drugs, you name it, he's a fucking mess. The worst part is it fucks with his memory; some things he did, he remembers, other...not so much...and a lot of them, he has the vague sense/knowledge He Did Something Terrible but he can't recall the details (which is probably for the better, sometimes). Finally, he of course gets arrested...and he gets lucky. Hell, he gets about as lucky as a disaster like himself can get (spoilers: it's not luck). He gets a great public defender and a lenient judge and while initially he's on the hook for all kinds of charges (not least of which - sex work, drug dealing, possession with intent to sell, aggravated assault, theft, rape...) most of the charges end up dropped or reduced, and because of a clear history of how this abuse started when he was young, he's sentenced to community service and rehab instead of prison. It especially helps that the assault and rape charges end up getting dropped (Mo Ran tells his lawyer, who tells him NOT to tell anyone else, that he remembers just enough to be POSITIVE he's guilty of both).
He gets to start over, fresh, in his mid-20s, with his fragmented memories and his regrets and a bone-deep determination to help other people. His community service, done at an all-service non-profit in a poor neighborhood, offers him a job in the soup kitchen after, and he ends up one of their best advocates - he's great looking, charismatic, insanely hard working, a skilled chef, brilliant, strong - and he helps them build relationships with organizations that can help them, bring in donations, distribute what they get, the whole package. And, of course, he gets friendly with the other people who work there.
Like Xue Meng, the incredibly gruff son of the head of the non-profit's board who acts like a dick but actually really gives a damn.
And Ye Wangxi, the trans man who runs the organizations LGBTQIA+ outreach program.
And Nangong Si, the dilettante rich boy who Definitely Isn't Helping with fundraising and Definitely Doesn't Have Feels for Ye Wangxi.
The list goes on and on, but of course there's...
Chu Wanning. Who has to be the LEAST charismatic, personable, friendly person in the entire organization. He's standoffish, aggressive, often off-putting, and generally forbidden from attending charity events and really anything public, but who behind the scenes is one of the hardest working SoBs there. He's in charge of tech for the organization - both their internal technology and their tech-for-the-public program, which helps the people who come there with everything from vehicle repairs through providing free computers/tablets/smart phones through tech support (Xue Meng ends up doing a lot of the actual tech support, because as tsundere as he is, he's still easier to talk to than Chu Wanning). The organization wouldn't function without Chu Wanning.
Initially, Chu Wanning wants nothing to do with Mo Ran - talk about a man too pretty for his own good (as if that couldn't refer to CWN too...) - but Mo Ran is nothing if not a persistent, overly friendly husky, and ultimately Chu Wanning ends up genuinely befriended, largely against his will, though when he finally gets fed up and says as much, and Mo Ran finally leaves him alone for a while, Chu Wanning of course ends up missing him and ultimately seeks him out again. That's about the point when, to Chu Wanning's shock, Mo Ran explains that if they ARE going to spend time together again, Chu Wanning needs to understand that Mo Ran's feelings are way beyond platonic, that he'd love to have a more personal, ideally romantic and/or sexual, relationship with Chu Wanning, and that while he doesn't need Chu Wanning to reciprocate, he'll feel disingenuous if he continues to be Chu Wanning's friend without knowing.
(From Mo Ran's point of view, he's been insanely obvious about this, but also he's been terrified of saying it explicitly because he knows in his heart that he is A Bad Person, all the appearance of virtue with none of the actual virtue, the perfect inverse of the stoic Chu Wanning who everyone sees as cold and aloof but who actually has a heart of gold and has never done wrong in his life.)
(From Chu Wanning's point of view, he has never been more blind-sided in his life. Who. Could POSSIBLY. Have Feelings. For HIM????)
After a little deliberation, and after an initial "no," Chu Wanning finally does take the hand that Mo Ran has offered him, and they start tentatively, hesitantly dating. Neither of them has ANY experience at this (Chu Wanning has always been single; Mo Ran's only relationship, while long, was so abusive that if anything he aims to model "always do the opposite of what I did then"), so it's definitely rocky. Especially so because, though Chu Wanning can't bring himself to admit it, he's only not a virgin because he's a rape victim - a stranger assaulted him one night when he was walking him, forced themselves on him, left him shattered and he's been slowly putting himself back together ever since.
But, despite all the hurdles, little by little, they grow close, they fall in love, they decide to be physically intimate...
...they're in Mo Ran's bedroom...
...they're taking off each other's clothes...
...Mo Ran is saying the sweetest, most genuinely affectionate words, and while Chu Wanning is constitutionally incapable of saying such things back, he absolutely feels them, he is as completely in love as he is loved...
...and there, on Mo Ran's revealed chest, is a long ragged scar that is all too horrifyingly familiar to Chu Wanning.
Because he made that scar himself.
When he tried to fight off his attacker, his rapist.
And then he can see it, so clearly, how that emaciated, sunken-eyed youth has, a decade later, grown into this man before him.
And this man, Mo Ran now, is wonderful.
And, unbeknownst to Mo Ran, most of the reason Mo Ran has had the opportunities he had is that Chu Wanning advocated for him (...he was a young public activist/non-profit worker then, and very passionate...), helped arrange him having competent representation, dropped the assault and rape charges, couldn't bring himself to take the stand but wrote a letter in favor of lenient sentencing that was read to the judge and jury and entered into evidence.
In that instant, ALL this reality crashes in on Chu Wanning - that this is his attacker, that he's in love with his attacker, the cruel irony of them reuniting, getting friendly, becoming a couple, all the memories of that awful night that he's tried, with mixed success, to process, and it's so much, too much...
...and, for Mo Ran's part, while he doesn't deserve much in the way of sympathy all things considered, there is something awful about the heartbreaking moment when Chu Wanning takes one look at Mo Ran's bared body and goes catatonic in a panic attack.
Needless to say, it takes them a LONG time to recover from this.
But...they get there eventually, of course.
File this under "story ideas I definitely will never have time to write but that will definitely be entertaining me a lot for several weeks to come."

I really enjoy watching Tomorrow, the stories are interesting and I cry probably every episode, however I hate to see how they deal with some of the cases.
Spoilers to ep 7: the women had bulimia and was literally so sick and could barely eat but just a few words from Joon Woong and she was basically healed. Yes, it might have helped for that moment but even a conversation with her chubbier colleague is not something that will help her.
I would have loved to see her going to a therapist and working on herself. There is so much stigma about going to therapist, so why not take a chance and push the idea that it’s okay to seek help. The whole drama is about suicidal people, so I think you can mention it in one or two episodes.
Spoilers to ep 10: This time it was sexual assault case and it portrayed some of the things that the victims have to go through, which is amazing. But what made me so confused was the idealistic court ending asking the judge to sentence the dude for 10,000+ years. Like what???
Again, perfect chance to showcase how lenient sentences are surrounding sexual assault cases and that even the harshest sentence is not that hard. So why they are going such an idealistic route? Why not show how many years he actually got?
Tomorrow is a great drama but when it comes to very serious topics like these two above they have a very hard time dealing with the conclusion of it, which irks me every time.

VALLETTA, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Two brothers on Friday admitted murdering Maltese anti-corruption journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2017, in a remarkable turnaround on the first day of their trial.
Alfred and George Degiorgio had submitted "not guilty" pleas when the case opened earlier in the day, but after a lengthy break, their lawyers said they agreed to acknowledge guilt in exchange for a more lenient sentence.
Paul Caruana Galizia, one of the murdered journalist’s three sons, welcomed the move, describing it in a Tweet as "a break in the clouds".
Their guilty pleas means four people have now admitted to taking a part in the murder. A fifth man, local businessman Yorgen Fenech, is still in jail pending trial. Prosecutors believe he commissioned the killing, something he denies.
In an interview with Reuters earlier this year, George Degiorgio confessed to the crime. A lawyer for the brothers also said the two men were seeking a pardon in return for divulging "everything we know about other murders, bombs and crimes".
Their request for a pardon has not been accepted and the jury of five men and four women were instructed at the start of proceedings to consider only what they heard in the courtroom.
Caruana Galizia, 53, was a household name in Malta for her investigative reporting. Her killing on Oct. 16, 2017 raised questions about rule of law in the European Union's smallest member state.
During the morning session of the trial, prosecutors said the Degiorgios and another accomplice – Vincent Muscat – had originally planned to shoot Caruana Galizia but then procured a bomb which they placed in her car.
George Degiorgio set off the bomb from a yacht off Malta's coast as Alfred Degiorgio and Muscat acted as spotters. Muscat last year admitted his role in a plea bargain in return for information and is serving a 15-year prison term.
SECRET FUNDS
The Degiorgios and Muscat were arrested in December 2017 and have been behind bars since.
Much of the case was built around testimony and phone conversation recordings by the murder plot middle-man, Melvin Theuma, who was granted a presidential pardon in return for information late in 2019.
He alleged the plot was commissioned by Fenech, who led a consortium that was controversially awarded a government contract to build a power station in 2015.
Fenech was arrested in November 2019.
Caruana Galizia had revealed the existence of a secret company which allegedly was meant to funnel funds to Panama-registered companies belonging to then energy minister Konrad Mizzi and the government chief of staff Keith Schembri.
No evidence that money changed hands has been produced.
A Reuters investigation after her death had established that the company belonged to Fenech.
Fenech’s arrest led to the resignation of Schembri and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. Both deny any involvement in the journalist’s murder and have not been prosecuted.
The fifth anniversary of the murder will be marked with a rally on Sunday which will be addressed by European Parliament president Roberta Metsola.

Dropping DUI Charges: A Strategic Guide to Legal Relief
Tumblr media
Understanding DUI Charges
Before delving into strategies for dropping DUI charges, it's crucial to have a clear understanding of what constitutes driving under the influence (DUI) and the potential consequences. DUI charges typically arise when a person operates a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) above the legal limit or while under the influence of drugs.
Assessing the Evidence
One of the initial steps in seeking to have DUI charges dropped is to thoroughly assess the evidence against you. This includes reviewing police reports, witness statements, and any available video footage of the incident. Identifying weaknesses or inconsistencies in the evidence can form the basis for a strong defense strategy.
Challenging Probable Cause
In many DUI cases, the legality of the traffic stop and subsequent arrest hinges on probable cause. If law enforcement officers lacked sufficient justification for pulling you over or administering field sobriety tests, it may be possible to challenge the validity of the arrest. An experienced attorney can help scrutinize your arrest's circumstances and determine whether probable cause was established.
Examining Testing Procedures
Another common strategy for contesting DUI charges involves examining the procedures used for chemical testing, such as breathalyzer or blood tests. Errors in administering or interpreting these tests can undermine their accuracy and reliability. Factors such as improper calibration of testing equipment or failure to adhere to standardized protocols could provide grounds for challenging the validity of test results.
Seeking Pretrial Diversion Programs
In some jurisdictions, individuals facing first-time DUI charges may be eligible for pretrial diversion programs. These programs typically involve completing specified requirements, such as attending educational classes or participating in community service, in exchange for having the charges dismissed or reduced. Consulting with a knowledgeable attorney can help determine whether you qualify for such programs in your area.
Negotiating Plea Bargains
If contesting the charges outright proves challenging, negotiating a plea bargain with prosecutors may offer a viable alternative. Prosecutors may be willing to reduce the charges to a lesser offense or recommend a more lenient sentence in exchange for your cooperation. A skilled attorney can advocate on your behalf during plea negotiations to secure the most favorable outcome possible.
Conclusion
While facing DUI charges can be a stressful and overwhelming experience, it's important to remember that there are strategies available for seeking legal relief. By understanding the legal process, assessing the evidence against you, and enlisting the assistance of a qualified attorney, you can improve your chances of dropping DUI charges or mitigating their impact. With the right approach and diligent advocacy, you can navigate this challenging situation with confidence and determination.

Drug Offenses and Legal Strategies: A Comprehensive Guide for Criminal Lawyers
Tumblr media
Drug crimes require a strategic and subtle approach from criminal lawyers, who steer a complex legal landscape to secure favorable client outcomes. This comprehensive guide delves into the intricacies of drug-related cases and explores unique legal strategies to empower a criminal lawyer in Florida in their defense efforts.
1. Deconstructing Drug Offenses:
Drug-related charges contain a range of crimes, ranging from possession to trafficking and driving under intoxication, each holding separate legal implications. A holistic interpretation of the charges and their potential consequences is the basis for crafting a robust defense strategy.
2. Constitutional Vigilance:
Unraveling the constitutional fabric of the case is paramount. A criminal lawyer meticulously examines search and seizure procedures, probing for any violations of the Fourth Amendment. Successfully questioning the legitimacy of proof compilation can greatly dilute the prosecution's case.
3. Chain of Custody Scrutiny:
A microscopic examination of the chain of custody is indispensable. Lawyers meticulously analyze evidence handling, searching for any irregularities that could doubt the seized materials' reliability. Any breaks in the chain can be strategically exploited in the defense.
4. Harnessing Expert Testimony:
Leveraging expert witnesses, such as forensic chemists or toxicologists, adds a powerful dimension to the defense. Their discernment of the nature and quantity of the substance can be key in introducing reasonable doubt. Expert testimony serves as a formidable tool in challenging the prosecution's evidence.
5. Intent and Knowledge Emphasis:
Interrogating the prosecution's ability to prove intent or knowledge is a strategic pivot. A top criminal lawyer dissects the evidence to determine if the client knowingly possessed or intended to distribute the controlled substance. Creating doubt on these pivotal elements can reshape the trajectory of the case.
6. Exploring Diversion Programs:
Innovative defense extends to advocating for diversion programs and alternative sentencing options like a family lawyer. By emphasizing rehabilitation over punitive measures, the legal experts seek avenues such as drug courts or rehabilitation programs, which are particularly advantageous for non-violent offenders scuffling with substance abuse issues.
7. Strategic Plea Negotiations:
The negotiation process is an art and takes center stage in drug offense cases. Criminal attorneys carefully evaluate the strengths and drawbacks of the case, leveraging this insight to secure favorable plea deals. Reduced charges, minimal sentencing, or count dismissals become apparent through adept negotiation. It is a similar approach that a family lawyer adopts.
8. Crafting Sentencing Mitigation:
A renowned criminal lawyer presents compelling mitigation factors as the case progresses to sentencing. Showcasing the client's guilt, positive societal contributions, or proof of rehabilitation efforts can convince the court's perspective during sentencing, potentially leading to more lenient or tolerant outcomes.
In conclusion, the defense of clients in drug offense cases requires a dynamic and creative approach. Armed with a deep understanding of legal nuances and a strategic mindset, criminal lawyers can navigate the challenges posed by drug-related charges. By weaving together constitutional scrutiny, expert insights, and innovative defense strategies, lawyers can forge a path to success in these intricate legal battles. SPB Law presents the best legal assistance and court representation in diverse criminal cases. The top legal firm is the ultimate destination to hire a reputed criminal and family lawyer in Florida.

I don’t believe in the death penalty. The lawyers question you about that if that’s what the state is seeking. I think that’s why I wasn’t selected to serve on one jury.
I think it’s much worse to live out your days in captivity than to be gently put to sleep.
European countries seem to have more lenient prison sentences and more opportunities for rehabilitation.
But that case with that little girl…ugh! How can people be such monsters?
Yeah those two would be the 1st in line for Ol' Sparky if I ever had the chance to hand out justice! 😒💥💥💥
Prisons in here are more like college dorm rooms so these criminals aren't exactly being punished anyway. 🤦🏼‍♀️
