♣ bella will never be one to claim she has experienced trauma. in her mind, trauma is something so much worse than what she experienced.

she was bullied a lot as a child. constantly ostracized for the fact that she couldn't play in the sun without getting a burn, that she couldn't go swimming with her "friends" for that reason and the fact that she just never learned (mainly due to an intense fear of drowning). she was the victim of kids pulling her white hair, pinching her to watch bruises form on her too-pale skin, calling her an old lady for her hair or a demon for her eyes.

she was cripplingly shy for most of her childhood and into adolescence largely because of this. It took a lot of time and effort and hours in therapy to get her to build her confidence. Even now, she tends to deflect a lot and will get very clingy to people she's become attached to.

her childhood has left her with an intense fear of disappointing people or being abandoned. she's constantly afraid that if she drops her bubbly personality for a fraction of a second, she'll be dropped by the people she loves.

these sorts of scenes play out in recurring nightmares really often. it's one of the reasons for her insomnia.

↘ Lyney has a fondness for utilizing ornate props and accessories in his acts. Intricacies of his preferences can be found in minute details of the embossed print of his card backs, subtle glitter on the panneling of trick-boxes that catch the chosen hues of stage light just right and so fourth. Because of this he's very in tune with minor details in those he's fond of. Perfumes, Patterns on Clothing, Favourite flavours. He tends to collect a mental record of the small things that define a person's preferences and cater to them unabashedly to show his appreciation and attention. If he likes you, he is studying what what makes you tick. Affectionately. If he dislikes you, this doubles down for ammo. ↘ He's extremely proud of his vision. While he insists it must be counted out for claims of reliance in his perfomances he does have a bit of an ego about his gifted element. Fire is dazzling, draws an audience around it to enjoy it's warmth, leaves an enchanting glow on those that stop to observe it and becomes deadly the closer one comes near. ↘ He sleeps like the dead. When the day is said and done and Lyney actually allows himself to drift off into dreams he is the sort that can sleep through nearly anything. In contrast to his typically very alert and agile nature rousing him from sleep is a task nearly impossible. Because of this Rosseland tends to curl up and sleep directly on his back. comfy.

kaz clings to his revenge and his anger because without it all he would have is his loss. he'd be consumed by mourning — mourning his brother, his father, the life he used to have. he'd ache to wake up as a kid again, free on the farm, laughing under the sun. he'd dream of closing his eyes and being greeted by the yellow light of the farmhouse or of taking his loved ones in his arms. but this pain isn't useful, it just hurts and it won't help him survive in the barrel. so he cuts it out of him, he channels his feelings through rage, he gives his loss a direction, a target. and this allows him to survive

♣ One of the most important things in Bella's life is her pets.

Shou's a grumpy old man and will make it known if he doesn't like you, but most of the time he just can't be bothered to interact with much of anyone that isn't Bell.

He also may not be a trained service animal, but both he and her dog Patriot do a lot to help bella during panic attacks and depressive episodes.

Patriot, being a massive dog (I know she has a fear of huge dogs but he was abandoned as a puppy and her friend asked her to take him in, she couldn't say no and has grown to just adore him) tends to just wedge himself behind her and curl around her in order to offer pressure, softness, and warmth.

Shou offers similar! He yells until Bella sits herself down, then he crawls up onto her chest and purrs like nobody's business. The pressure on her chest, plus his warmth and the vibrations from the purring almost always calm her down.

thinking about the fact that wren actually vibes with introverts a lot? i think they enjoy the fact that they're quiet and wren's allowed to talk as much as they want AVJBID

but also they enjoy finding out things about people, and they usually can't read introverts as well as their extraverted friends, so there's a small air of Mystery(TM) that keeps them entertained for a while. if that friend is interesting in general, they'll definitely stick around longer tbh!

HEADCANON -- 

As kids, when he first started playing with Che’nya, his friend would insist that Trey learn how to speak cat. [[ IT’S OWONLY PAWLITE, AFURTER ALL, TO GET TO KNOW YOUR FURENDS. ]] They figured out it was easier to get away with things if no one know what they were planning, so it became a bit of a secret code between the two. Once Riddle got folded into the mix, they had to explain why they were meowing at each other instead of speaking the preferred vernacular of the Queendom of Roses. 

Being bilingual wasn’t the issue. It was that Che’nya taught Trey how to speak in his own pun filled dialect. This wasn’t abundantly clear until Trey’s first year at NRC when his beastmen dorm mates seemed a bit confused but accepting, politely informing him that his vocabulary was strange but he definitely had the sprint. The process of unlearning years of vocabulary and replacing it with cat standard has been an absolute pain; but when Che’nya comes to visit Heartslabyul, he’ll slip back into that punny dialect if only out of habit.

Ace went straight from calling Bruce "Batman" to calling him "Dad". While Bruce Wayne is the name most know him by, it never felt more like a mask to her than the cowl he wore every night. Batman was the one who saved her life, who gave her back her childhood. Bruce Wayne didn't even feel like a real person to her. So the moment she felt comfortable enough to stop calling him Batman, he became Dad.

♣️ Natalia is "tsundere" in that she acts really prickly with most people. She's blunt and somewhat aggressive, but she does care quite a bit.

Contrary to the popular image of tsundere women, she doesn't like to be violent towards someone that has her affection. Her words might be aggressive and she'll certainly try to push them away, but she isn't outright hitting it kicking them.

She'll try to put on an act to make someone lose interest in her. It's very much a defense mechanism. Whether it be pretending she's very materialistic or just being overall difficult to be around, she will try her damn best to make them leave before she can get attached and get hurt.

While she does want that love and relationship, she doesn't deal all that well with open shows of affection and will get easily embarrassed. That, and there's a serious fear that her overly protective and somewhat "unpleasant" demeanor will make someone leave her. The only people she relaxes around is her family, because they've proven that they love her as she is and won't condemn her for how she acts. (Though they will talk to her if she goes too far)

Thomas’ betrayal ran deep and keen. Thomas framed Mark as the traitor by sending him on a wild goose chase. Thomas claimed he knew who the traitor was and that Oliver had asked Mark to keep an eye on them, but while Mark believed he was spying on Malone, Thomas was taking photographs of his movements to show as ‘proof’ of his betrayal to Oliver. Then, when Mark realised Thomas’ plans, he tortured him into silence and submission.

there's this really interesting facet to kaz where, because of every horrible thing that he's done, he doesn't judge others for their most ~ dastardly deeds ~ and while obviously even kaz has a line, he can ( unintentionally ) be comforting when someone is trying to face their misgivings, failures, or regrets. like... you've killed someone and feel guilty about it ? he'd tell you to get over it because crying won't bring the person back. you feel down on your luck ? he'd scoff at you and ask why you're allowing something so small to best you.

i think nina puts it best in soc when she says, “In a way, telling Kaz had been a comfort. There could be no judgment from a boy known as Dirtyhands”. he's someone who can be trusted with a person's worst secrets and not treat them any differently for it. and in some cases, he ends up offering up this degree of tough love that's almost healing in some scenarios, even though that's certainly not what he's trying to do. in many ways, opening up about your deepest regret to someone and that person looking you in the eye, shrugging, and telling you that they don't care is sometimes exactly what a person needs to hear and kaz does it best
