I agree with ur analysis on richard failing leah. I was scared when he was saying how she 100% embodied annabeth, not because she did a bad job — (In fact, I think she did so well IN SPITE of the script and the directing) — because i knew racists are gonna use his words as ammunition against her when the character doesn’t turn out exactly like the books. Leah has so much chemistry with the cast. She’s smart and funny, as evidenced by her interviews and other forms of media. But rick stripped show Annabeth of all that didn’t even give her a chance to be the character and it’s not fair.

This isn't to say he/Disney+ writers did other characters fairly (I mean, Show Sally) but it irks me especially with Leah because he was so loud about her being a perfect fit (which I don't doubt she is) while actively messing up her script.

The gross ass racist backlash she received for absolutely no fucking reason is also why I'm not directing my complaints at her, good Lord the kid's had enough; she did what she damn could with the little screentime & limited role range they gave her. I'm picking it up with Rick & Co because I know they could do better. Annabeth's character isn't even "against" any inner Disney+ "rules", she's a pretty standard archetype. Not to take away from her character's complexity, she is complex. I'm saying that narrating her would fall perfectly in line with the usual Disney style. I don't really get why there were changes.

To finish it up, I know Richard sucks at writing women. I know he also sucks at writing characters of color. He especially sucks at writing women of color. But honestly, if you know you will do a bad job, why can't you honor your actress/her character and get someone to fix your mistakes? Laziness and lack of care, imo.

I stopped talking about it soon after the finale because I realized that it's useless, actually. I know the show was crap, so does a good chunk of the fanbase. Me and others bringing up how lazy and uncaring the production is won't change the minds of people that mindlessly consume everything that has #Riordan label on it no matter how poorly written, badly filmed, or tastelessly conceptualized. Staying quiet and letting the thing die in peace is probably the best way to go.

I feel myself physically recoil at the mention of modern-day R. Riordan because he fully fell into the long list of "authors that got completely ruined by fame and money" for me. Like, his production is unrecognizable to me; it's just Marvel at this point. So, same: I don't care about the show.
