It’s a lot easier to come up with dislikes than likes for my little sourpuss XD

Likes

The smell of cooking food or baking

quiet and calm surroundings

Goldenrod yellow

Hugs (but she would die before she admitted it to anyone)

Directness without cruelty (if that makes sense)

Dislikes

The whole of everything that has happened over the past… how long has it been?  Like since a couple weeks before she met all of you.  Most particularly what happened right before she came back to Dockmarsh.

Uncertainty - not knowing how to go about doing something or what’s going on, or having no direction is extremely frustrating for her. She likes to have a direction and to plow forward towards that goal not flounder around trying to figure things out

People implying she isn’t doing enough or trying hard enough.  She reacts like it’s because they have no right to criticize her but really the overreaction is more coming from the fact that deep down even if she has nothing more to give in that moment she also doesn’t think she is doing enough either so it’s a sore spot

Being afraid and she especially hates anyone knowing she is.

∇ -. old age/aging headcanon 

Okay, let’s entertain that my extremely cursed child makes it to old age (which considering how often she goes down in battle and auto-fails death saves… we’ll see). Anyway, this is really hard because too much of her future path depends a lot on stuff that I can’t even begin to predict.  But I do have just a scene stuck in my head so have a brief vignette:

She stands on the pebble beach, looking out over the mirror glass glacial lake reflecting the brilliant colours of the setting sun and the bowl of surrounding mountains. Despite the other signs of age, the wrinkles around her eyes, silver strands in her beard, her thick hair done up in simple braids is still as deep a black as in her youth, other than the starkly white streak that starts at her temple.

She wears no armor, though a polearm, used as a walking stick on her way up here lies on the ground beside her.  Her face, and any skin visible under the silver and black clothing covered by a goldenrod cloak, is crossed heavily with scars but in this moment she looks relaxed, peaceful even. Her facial expression makes her look softer than the scars would imply. 

She stoops and picks up a flattened stone in her scarred and wrinkled hands. And here, on the shores of this lake, alone in peaceful mountains, she winds up and throws, skipping the stone over the lake. 

And as it skips, disturbing the mirror with expanding ripples and then sinks she smiles, content.

♒ - cooking/food headcanon

I hadn’t given it much thought before but now that I’m thinking about it I like to think that Cara is actually surprisingly good at cooking.  Like, it’s not something she would talk about and if someone else starts it before her in camp it’s not like she’s going to speak up and join them or anything. She’ll just find something more solitary to do.

The smell and process of cooking is weirdly calming to her and she is actually really good at making trail rations actually edible even over the inconsistent heat of a campfire with limited travel kit. And she doesn’t think much of her skill it’s just something she can do, you know? She absolutely devalues it in her wheelhouse of abilities.

Druid: Does your character have a positive or negative opinion of nature (animals included)? Do they prefer the outdoors or the indoors?

Cara certainly doesn’t mind being indoors. But I think that she’s more comfortable outdoors, especially in more secluded areas. The quieter the surroundings, and the fewer people around the more she relaxes.

Paladin: Does your character have an oath, a mantra, or a code by which they live their life? Do they ever defy this code, and if so, what are the consequences?

I don’t know if it quite counts as a code but she’s definitely on a mission for one thing… redemption - she is very, very focused on addressing and undoing some damage done in the past.

So far she hasn’t really gone against this… though she might count coming through the mirror to you guys. Depends on what happens XD

Sorcerer: What comes naturally to your character that would require other people to train or to study in order to accomplish?

The ability to be extremely abrasive and prickly as a hedgehog. Also being really really bad at pretending that nothing is wrong.

hahaha, but no.  I actually like to think that while she is certainly no slouch as a fighter she worked really hard at that and despite how early that training started it wasn’t necessarily something where she would have been considered a prodigy or just naturally good at it or anything of that sort. Like don’t get me wrong she was never bad at it but it also didn’t come any easier to her than it would have to anyone else.

But to tie it into the cooking headcanon above I actually think that something that just sort of came more naturally to her was her ability to cook and particularly to improvise with ingredients available.  She just has a sense of what is going to actually taste good together and how exactly to combine them.
