In Celtic also Norse mythology, March was known as the 'month of lengthening days', which wakes the alder from its winter slumber.

Alder trees are found in the northern hemisphere. Although it is a broad-leaved tree, only alder bears cones, so it is easy to recognise them at a glance in winter. Alder wood can survive completely submerged in water, and never far from water, Alder trees can most often be found lining the banks of a stream, loch, or river, or in boggy wet ground and swamps.

Alder trees, which fix nitrogen around their roots, are also soil-enriching blessing trees. The alder tree, which does not rot even when in water, appeared to be a source of great mystery to the ancients. However, the main reason why the ancient Celts worshipped the alder tree was its sap turns a deep red when exposed to air, as if cutting it would cause it to bleed.

The alder month is a time when the days lengthen, the winter chill slackens and the sun gains momentum, and the ancient Celts would have been uplifted by the blossoming of the alder and its various blessings. The alder tree, which sacrifices itself to fertilise the soil, was also considered sacred. While it was also said to protect the road leading to fairyland, it was also believed that if an alder was cut down, the person's house would burn down in a fire. According to Irish legend, the first man was made from an alder tree and the first woman was made from a rowan tree.

The alder is the totemic tree of Bran the Blessed, the god. He is a giant and king of Britain in Welsh mythology. According to legend, after fighting the Irish, Bran knew he was dying and ordered his fellows to cut off his head and bring it back to London. The party spent 7 years in Harlech and 80 years in Benbrook on the way, but Bran's head remained alive and undecomposed. Bran's head was buried in the White Hill below the Tower of London. Bran's totemic bird was the raven, so 2 ravens are kept at the Tower of London, but their wings have been clipped. This is because legend has it that if the ravens abandon the Tower of London and fly away, the UK will be destroyed.

Apparently, the ravens are loved and looked after, really well by the Beefeater Guards.

ケルト神話や北欧神話では、ハンノキを冬の眠りから覚ます「日が長くなる月」として知られていた。

広葉樹でありながら球果をつけるのはハンノキだけなので、冬にはひと目で見分けることができる。ハンノキの木は完全に水に浸かっても生きていけるので、小川、湖、川の岸辺や、湿地帯、沼地など、水辺でよく見かけることができる。

根の周囲に窒素を固定させるハンノキは、土壌を豊かにする恵みの木でもある。水の中にあっても腐らないハンノキは、古代人にとって特別な木に見えた。昔はハンノキを切り倒して沼沢地に道を造り、クラノグ(湖上住居)も、ハンノキで立てたのだ。しかし、古代ケルト人が、ハンノキを崇拝した最大の理由は、樹液が空気に触れると深い赤色になり、まるで切ると血が出るかのようだからだ。

ハンノキの月は、日脚が延びて、冬の寒気がゆるみ、日差しが勢いを増してくる時期であり、ハンノキの花開き、さまざまな恵みに古代ケルト人たちの気持ちも昂揚していただろう。また、自分を犠牲にして土壌を肥やすハンノキは神聖なものと考えられていた。妖精の国へ導く道を守るとも言われる一方で、ハンノキを切り倒すと、その人の家が火災にあって全焼するとも信じていた。アイルランドの伝説では、最初の男性はハンノキからつくられ、女性はナナカマドからつくられたことになっている。

ハンノキは、ウェールズ神話に登場する巨人であり、ブリテンの王であるブラン神のトーテムの木である。伝説によれば、アイルランド人と戦ったのち、死期が近づいているのを悟ったブランは、自分の首を刎ね、ロンドンまで持ち帰るよう仲間たちに命じた。一行は途中ハーレックで７年、ベンブルークで80年過ごしたものの、それでもブランの首は腐敗せず生き続けた。ブランの首はロンドン塔の下に広がる白い丘に埋葬された。ブランのトーテムの鳥はワタリガラスであったので、ロンドン塔ではワタリガラスが飼われているが、翼が切られている。ワタリガラスがロンドン塔を見捨てて飛んでいってしまうと英国は滅亡するという言い伝えがあるためである。

ロンドン塔のワタリガラスたちはビーフィーター・ガードたちに愛され、本当によく世話をしてもらっているそうです。

Translator's note on suzuracles post-wedding dialogue

It's hard to direct-translate Suzume's tone indicators to English so I could only do my best to imitate her playful tone at the end of each sentence (even though the content/first half is serious she kept the lovestruck persona ending it in "wah~!")

This passage is a bit difficult to me so I checked the dictionary twice. I spent a long time on Suzume's last line. I can't be sure if it is i-u-hou (the speaker) or i-u-kata (the tone+diction) but combining Suzume's tone I think it's the latter one. And, "tsumi". I'm aware of the better-known from W as "sins" but the word has duality and what is sinful may not be illegal, what is illegal may not be sinful (off-track). And we are talking about a morally grey character.

Analysis

The most intriguing suzuracles to me is, they might be the closest in position in terms of sacrificing their personal self for their country, to present a public persona yet they could never confide in anyone, not even to each other, especailly not, even though they knew the other is in the same position as themself. Yet, they have lived under the same roof with each other longer than they did with their own family. That real? not real? love into hatred? hatred into love? into mutual understanding? The quantum state of it is the most captivating to me for them as foils.

I think Suzume is conscious in keeping referring to Racules as "Racules-sama" instead of in second person to keep a distance between them. Let alone "anata" in the "[my] husband" sense. It's okay to love "Racules-sama", it's easy to play the innocent captive of "Racules-sama", but she has seen Racules. Late at night, in between schemes, behind polite threats. Can one fully hate a worthy opponent?

Racules is testing Suzume. He has no need to play games with her. He knew she was there for Toufu to profit from the start (alt-shugod aid to Toufu in wake of Wrath of Gods).

It wasn't a secret to you that Mafuyu wasn't in the very best condition, in fact you knew well she was struggling with showing any kind of emotions. But the worst was that she often didn't saw anything bad in her behavior... she accepted being like that as she thought it's just her personality and she can't do anything about it. But you saw that she was struggling and you really wanted to help her!

I kept the wording of the localization in a couple places where it was a direct translation, even if I might have chosen other wording if I had translated the Japanese without looking at the localized version first. But that's just how Japanese is. Easy 1-to-1's don't usually happen between English and Japanese.

The main meaning of 襲う (osou) is to attack, but it is used very broadly beyond the context of full-on combat as well. Pounce/ lunge is a good translation in this context.

In the localization, Dorothea kept it vague at first who would want to pounce, but in the Japanese I think Dorothea was clearly implying it to be her from the beginning, because Ingrid calls her out directly.

That's about it for all I have to add. Again, this one really isn't different from the Japanese in overall meaning, I think!

As usual, translations were done for fun. Do not use for anything important. Ask a professional for that. My own thoughts on the lyrics and the translation process after the cut.

There are many parts of the lyrics that carry double meaning (or at least I can interpret them that way). My favorite being this part 「僕だけが　小さな灯りをともしてあげる」 which I chose to translate as "Only I will shine a small light for you". However, the verb I translated as "shine" (ともす) is not in kanji. This allows me to interpret it as "Only I will accompany the small light", which also makes sense because the song speaks of both of them as small lights in the dark.

Another thing is how the song allows the lyrics to be cut in various ways, making room for even more interpretation. This is especially noticeable in the "Twilight" parts. For example, in "Twilight, ceaseless" the "ceaseless" can be read as an adjective to "twilight". However, it can also be continued with the next line and read as "ceaseless currents drifting through time".

The original Japanese could be cut in the same way and I tried to translate it so that the English worked as well. The only part I really couldn't translate in a way that played on the double reading is 「トワイライト　終わらない \ 闇に溺れたくなる日でも」 which I translated as "Twilight, unending \ Even on days I want darkness to swallow me up". This is the translation of the phrase as it is written and sung. But, if you connect the second word to the line after it, it will instead mean "Twlight \ Even on days I want the unending darkness to swallow me up".

There are also other parts I had a really hard time translating. I just couldn't find a word that I felt captured what the original was trying to say. I personally think those parts are pretty obviously awkward so I won't list them out here anymore.

Anyways, I really love this song and I had a lot of fun translating this.

My favourite sub style fashion has got to be Sweet lolita! Now you may be asking…What is sweet lolita!? Well to put it simply:

Sweet lolita (甘ロリ) takes the aspects of traditional lolita and uses a more of a childlike approach to the style! A lot of sweet lolita pieces that have been released in the past few years tend to incorporate sweets, fruits or anything “sugary” into the prints of the clothes ! People also tend to wear bows/ribbons and tons and tons of frills! As well as the adorable prints and frills, people also tend to accessories with a bag! The bag usually goes with the whole theme and vibe of the coord ! So, an example can be: A star bag, a bag shaped like a cake or biscuit, a unicorn bag and tons tons tonsss more!!

Has it been a year already? This was my first attempt to translate a song to English, but sensei made the lyrics quite easy and rhythmical to translate. Really, I just love the lyrics... Minekura-sensei is really something~

Nigo 仮面の私にさよならを Event Summary

This event need any knowledge of at least three previous Nigo centric event

PS : I kinda like this event title “goodbye to persona me” since it shows Mafuyu finally resist after 2 years (game timeline) wearing a good girl persona

Character : All Nigo Characters + Mafuyu’s mom

Event Summary (Twitter) : 

Event Summary (Mine) : Continuing last nigo event, Mafuyu keep getting pressure by her mother make her test result dropped. As for that, her mother pressure Mafuyu harder by asking her smartphone and for the first time Mafuyu resisted but her phone fall to fish tank. So after her phone gone, nigo members can’t makes any contact to her at all.

After some points, Miku finally connected to her broken phone and give some advice to her so she brave herself to talk face to face with her mother. Getting help from Kaito & Miku to keeps Mafuyu think straight, Mafuyu finally release her inner feelings to her mother but as Mafuyu can’t convinced her mother, she running away from home and come to Kanade’s house.

So to put it simple, this event is about Mafuyu finally break free from her mother but not in good note since her mother won't convince so she run away to Kanade house. Even after event chibi convo, it stated that Mafuyu still live in Kanade's house so I guess there will be an event centric on Kanade Mafuyu and Honami later

Card Time and Place : 

This card happened around first part of story, Mizuki suprised seeing Mafuyu on group chat after she say can’t come to nigo for a while. It’s around the time Mafuyu depressed after knowing her result dropped

This card happened around the time nigo searching for Mafuyu since they can’t contact her at all after her phone broke

This card happened around the time Mafuyu convicing her mother to understand her. But as her mother is typical pushy Asian mother, of course she won’t convince or even try to understand at all.

Mafuyu : the truth it’s painful, mom’s high expectations really hard for me but doing circle with Kanade and everyone make me feels better. So I won’t quit circle...!

This card happened after Mafuyu talked to her mother scene, Mafuyu try to talked to her mother but she won’t convinced at all so Mafuyu don’t know what to do then running away to Kanade’s house. 

Rarity : Since it’s Mafuyu centric event and nigo members giving a support, it's still good but Kaito Miku doing so many things here and don’t even get a card (lol). I love how balance nigo virtual singers here, like Miku Luka give a gentle support while Kaito give a harsh truth on Mafuyu

Aside the costume looks so ordinary, I kinda like this event theme and arts. Finally Mafuyu break her persona mask while Kanade Ena looks like protecting a heart as maybe that heart is Mafuyu's.

Put aside the story and arts, this is easy skip gacha to me~

幸せのために生きているだけさ / Shiawase no Tame ni Ikiteiru dake sa / I Live for Happiness

Welp, I'm (not yet really) back from the dead just for this! It's been such a long time since I last posted here (and actually translated something HAHA) (edit: WOW MY LAST POST HERE WAS MORE THAN A YEAR AGO WHAT). I've been real busy with real life - work, work, and did I say work? :(( I miss having lots of time HAHA ;_; also, life update - I took the JLPT N4 exam last December and passed woo thus the inactivity here :))

ANYWAY, enough of me. Let's talk about this song. This song was so beautiful, so heartfelt, it brought me out of depression inactivity. God they did it again: Yanagi's lyrics, together with Buyan's emotional vocals in this song - just hit me so hard I was CRYING HARD after listening to this the first time :(( The words they used in the song may be mostly simple (and I love it so much because it makes translating relatively easier - but definitely STILL NOT EASY), but the message was so so so meaningful. Especially the whole second verse + second pre-chorus where they speak about how we try to understand ourselves and the people around us better. If we try to understand people without understanding/knowing ourselves first, then we're more likely to hurt the other people because we'd only be showing them someone who isn't the real us just to ~please~ them. We can't become someone else just to conform, but we are all beautifully unique, and no matter our differences, we all deserve the true happiness that we all strive for.

Aaahhhhhh idk I feel like this is a ~sequel~ to Shiawase HAHAHA this is now my second most fave song from Super Beaver fr fr :(((
