젠요가의 두번째 이야기, 이어지는 “사람이 중심이 되는” 알앤지유나이티드 Q. 다양한 사업 영역을 가진 ‘알앤지유나이티드’(이하 알앤지)만의 운영 철학이 있다면 무엇인가요? A. 제게 인생에 있어서 중요한 것은 사람을 귀하게 여기는 것입니다. 모든 비즈니스는 결국 사람이 하기 때문입니다. 알앤지는 근본적인 접근을 달리합니다. 일반적인 회사는 이윤창출을 위해 아이템을 찾고, 물건을 팔지만, 알앤지는 선한 사람과 함께하기 위해 사업을 확장해 갑니다. 일하는 사람이 중심이 되는 것이 알앤지유나이티드의 운영 철학입니다. Q. “일하는 사람이 중심이 되는 비즈니스”에 대한 자세한 설명이 듣고 싶습니다. A. 일이 목적이 아니라 하나의 방법인 것입니다. 다양한 브랜드를 만든 것도 돈을 벌기 위해서가 아니라 선한 영향력을 가진 사람과 함께하려고 하다 보니 늘어난 것입니다. 쉽게 설명하자면 캠핑장으로 돈을 벌기 위해 캠핑과 관련된 능력자를 구인하는 것이 아니라, 나와 함께하는 사람이 캠핑과 관련된 능력이 있고, 이를 하고 싶어하기 때문에 캠핑장 사업을 하는 식입니다. 그렇기 때문에 관계 또한 사장과 직원이 아니라, 서로가 파트너가 됩니다. 직원은 종속되지 않으면서 원하는 일을 할 수 있도록 서포트하고, 자신이 원하는 것을 하는 대신 함께 이익을 나누는 수평적 관계입니다. 일하는 사람이 중심이 되는 비즈니스란 이런 것을 의미합니다. Q. 알앤지유나이티드는 다양한 브랜드로 구성됐지만 ‘요가’라는 큰 틀로 이어지는 것 같습니다. 각기 다른 사업 영역을 어떻게 꾸려나갈 것인지 구상옥 대표디렉터의 청사진을 듣고 싶습니다. A. 그렇습니다. 젠요가는 사람을 만드는 곳이고, 알앤지는 그 사람과 함께 일을 꾸려나가는 곳입니다. 요가와 명상을 하다 보면 남에 대한 배려심과 다른 사람의 인생에 대한 관심을 갖게 됩니다. 12년 동안 젠요가를 통해 자신의 마음을 성찰할 수 있는 좋은 사람을 얻고, 이 사람들과 함께 일하며 선한 영향력을 펼쳐나가는 사업을 하는 것이 알앤지유나이티드의 청사진입니다. Q. 알앤지유나이티드를 운영하는 목표가 있다면 무엇인가요? A. 알앤지유나이티드는 모두 스스로의 삶의 주인이 됐으면 좋겠다는 마음에서 출발한 회사입니다. 일을 제대로 하는지 감시하는 것이 아닌, 남을 위해 일하는 게 아닌, 자기 자신을 위해서 일하는 곳, 나를 위해서 하는 일이 남에게도 좋을 수 있도록 하는 곳입니다. 마음에 긍정을 가지고 능력 있는 사람들이 서로 모여 자신이 하고 싶은 일을 하는 공동체가 될 수 있도록 하는 것이 알앤지유나이티드를 운영하는 목표이자 철학입니다.
