Cinema
🌱 Another world (un autre monde) (dir. Stéphane Brizé) 🇫🇷
How companies desuhumanize people. How they take away everything they have. How money and power corrupt the human heart.
🌱 Mali Twist (Twist à Bamako) (dir. Robert Guédiguian) 🇫🇷
I know close to nothing about Mali's history and the suffering of its people. A great movie about freedom, opression, rebellion and youth.

TV Shows
🌿 Arcane (League of Legends) 🇺🇸🇫🇷
One of the best animation I have seen this year (and ever). I know nothing about the game, I am not a gamer but man I was hooked from start to finish. It was incredible.
🌿 Mr. Queen (철인왕후) (dir. Yoon Sung-sik) 🇰🇷
I know I'm late but better late than never no ? Definitly one of the best kdrama (in my opinion) ! And the actors are extraordinary. And, too rare to not be noted, I was rooting for the main ship the entire time !
🌿 Lawless lawyer (무법 변호사) (dir. Kim Jin-min) 🇰🇷
A bit long toward the end but a great law/investigation drama nonetheless.

Sticking with Lee Joon-gi and starting, well restarting Lawless Lawyer.
I've started it before and for some reason I didn't like it, I got maybe 7 mins in into the 1 episode and stopped watching

It took me all of one episode to become extremely invested in some Korean gangsters

Something unusual for this blog, but I was commissioned by @syolen for a transcription of the piano part from 지킬께요 (I'll Protect You) from the Lawless Lawyer OST. Thank you, it was a fun change of pace. :D

episode 6 of 무법 변호사 was so?? soft?
I mean we learned a lot of terrible things this episode, but Jae-yi and Sang-pil were so sweet?
I feel like a lot of people were put off by the random implied romp so suddenly, but also?? they're adults? Also it seems like a lot of it is from the same lot who complain about how drawn out the relationship development is in other dramas.
I like the way things are going tbh, I love that it this drama isn't episode after episode of avoiding each other or misunderstandings that could be solved by literally talking to each other.
I mean their relationship development was definitely neglected and in normal circumstances I would call Jae-yi's sudden getting into bed with Sang-pil bad coping with the perceived confirmation of her mother's death, but they skipped right over the avoiding each other and romance angst. They returned to their previous dynamic (if not with Sang-pil being a tad bit more protective).
While the sleeping together feels a bit sudden, it happens that way for some people and the relationship can often remain casual even afterward as they get closer. So maybe we'll get more relationship development going forward, now that Sang-pil isn't hiding anything from Jae-yi, but to be honest I prefer this to twelve episodes of heated glances and unspoken affection.
I'm living for the soft beach scenes. Even after breaking the terrible news to her, Sang-pil is worried about her and trailing after her, giving her space when she shakes him off and just being there for her. And them walking barefoot in the water on the morning after?? kill me it was so soft??
I'm loving their relationship, even if we lost a bit of the development. Hopefully having each other is going to be enough, because man is this drama about to kick into gear. I feel like this soft episode might be one of the only ones, because this show has been pretty intense thus far. I'm hoping everybody makes it through tbh, because there's so much softness in this drama despite the topic and I'm living for that.

New Series - Lawless Lawyer
youtube
무법 변호사 : As a young boy, Bong Sang Pil watches his mother be murdered in her law firm. He ran away to Seoul to grow up and learn to fight with his uncles street gang while studying to be a lawyer. Moving back to his home city he seeks out Ha Jae Yi, a girl who also lost her mother the same night and grew up to be a lawyer. Together they will get revenge for the death of their mothers.
Sang Pil (Lee Joon Gi) has built his law career off of getting around the loopholes of the law to help in situations with other gangs. When he hears of a trial back in his home city involving a cop and judge involved in his mothers death he returns to set up his own firm and exact his revenge, using the law and some helpful gang sidekicks. Jae Yi (Seo Ye Ji) has had her lawyers license suspended and fired from her firm after punching a judge who provoked her. She moves back home to her father. Sang Pil, knowing she is the daughter of a woman who died in the same events of the night his mother died has always kept an eye out for her, unknown to her. He recruits her as an assistant to help get revenge on the police, gangsters and judge who ruined their lives that night by becoming the defense attorney for the same cop involved.
tvN has delivered another great drama. Lately this network has been on a role with some of my favorites. Lee Joon Gi is charismatic as ever as the cheeky gangster. Great at comedy, action and drama he was a perfect choice for this role. Seo Ye Ji gives a strong but charming performance. Not afraid to give a group of thugs some lip or fight herself she wants justice for people while she draws emotion still wishing for a sign of what happened to her mother. Not too heavy on the comedic side kick thugs but they are funny to contrast with the monotone dreary thugs they face. For legal dramas with the intriguing twist this would be high up on my recommendations so far. Airing for sixteen episodes on Saturday and Sunday’s you can find subtitled episodes on Viki.
