anywho, this is a scene that I imagined: it's basically the moment that Hotaru really develops her crush on/admiration for Ranpo :3 little blurb on that below teehee

(this takes place during Hotaru's first day as a clerk at the agency)

“—and Dazai and Ranpo are the ones over there,” Kunikida was saying, gesturing across the room.

Hotaru’s gaze followed where he was pointing, landing on two men playing video games. One she recognized as Dazai, the bane of Kunikida’s existence (his words, not hers). That meant that the other was Ranpo.

She wasn’t sure what she had been expecting when it came to Ranpo; all she really knew was that he was the best detective in the agency (again, Kunikida’s words), and that Kunikida wasn’t shy to admit his respect for the man. Coming from her uptight older brother, that was actually saying something.

With black hair and a brown cape, he fit right in with the other members of the agency. Hotaru cocked her head, trying to imagine how this man earned such high praise…

“Hotaru, want to practice filing paperwork?” Naomi smiled innocently, holding out a basket heavy with manilla files. 

“Sure!”

As tantalizing as the pile was, the work itself was rather easy. She just needed to put the files in the correct drawers, according to who the paperwork was done by.

About halfway through the stack she came across a file from Ranpo. She paused, blinking at the file owlishly. She couldn’t resist; she just had to peek.

Well, that “peek” turned into several hours of going through Ranpo’s reports. She was absolutely mesmirized by his work. Any doubts about his worthiness of praise dissolved, and she was practically breathless as she read more and more. She didn’t even notice the setting sun, or the way the office was slowly emptying. She just kept on reading, more impressed with each file she pored over...

Hi so I'm like currently depressed over losing my entire progress on this one artwork I was working on because my computer kept shutting down and I wasn't able to save it in time and I don't have anyone else to talk to about so how would like the ROs help in comforting a very sad MC that lost a huge amount of work on a project they were working on? Could be that the mice got to it, someone accidentally burned it, the reason why is up to you. I just really need a pick-me-up cuz today wasn't it. 😭

M: They absolutely understand your situation. There have been numerous occasions when their masterpieces have just crumbled in their hands. M would sit next to you and make every attempt to communicate clearly with you. "I...understand...your annoyance. Take a deep breath, and know that failures happen to everyone. They offer to purchase the finest art supplies for your new creation…and to kill that dreadful mouse that got ahold if your last one.

B: They understand how frustrating it is to lose something they have worked hard on. It's not uncommon in the culinary world. Before they started talking, B would seat you down and offer you your favorite beverage and snack. "I realize this is difficult. But do you recall all the amazing things you created in the past? I mean, they're still framed on my walls! You are extremely talented, and this is only a momentary setback. I'm here for you, and if you want, we can work on it together." B understands if you want to be frustrated for a little longer, and they'll be there to help you when you're ready to try again…and they’ll also share some very sharp words with the person who burned your last art piece.
