I’m not sure I understand you well though sugar is it that you feel that the writer has a fem audience in mind but uses gn pronouns or are you saying that fem insert writers tag something as gn when the piece uses fem pronouns?

I’ve come across a lot of pieces that are advertised as gn but cater to a fem aligned audience and by that I man you’ll read a piece and it’ll say “you were drowning in his clothes” or “you looked up at him” now I’m not saying men can’t be shorter than their partners ( matter of fact a lot of us are ok😞) and I’m sure a lot of men have a much smaller build which would result in them drowning in characters clothes

The issue here is that these descriptions are commonly found in fem insert fics so by attempting to write a gn piece and include these descriptions you’re just making another fem reader piece but advertising it as gn reader

Not to mention those descriptions are problematic because where are the tall fem reader? The fem reader who wouldn’t drown in character’s clothes?

When I see something advertised as gn I except the reader to be blank as a canvas and by that I mean I don’t want any descriptions of the reader if you’re a writer who loves to write detailed descriptions write them for the character in question let me build the reader myself

It’s also a way to ensure you include every and any reader. Do not write “your cheeks turned bright red” do not write “he ran his hand through your hair” be mindful that not everyone will look bright red in the face when they blush be mindful that different hair types and hair styles won’t allow the character to run their hand through readers hair

Another thing is if you write gn pieces let reader be the one to ask character on a date let reader be a possessive bastard over character let reader be the protective guard dog a lot of fem insert fics center around the idea that character should ask reader out character should be possessive over reader character should be the guard dog and it’s obviously because of heteronormativity. When you decide to write a gn fics you have to leave the idea behind that reader will be the stereotypical cis straight woman that’s usually depicted in fem insert fics

Also fem insert writers who tag anything in their work are just trying to stand out among all fem insert writers but they’re clogging up the wrong type of tags by doing that so yes please do tag your work correctly

alrighty in short — at least in the US - it’s not the police’s job to preserve your innocence, they’re supposed to charge you with a crime — talking to cops even during a traffic stop can bear unintended consequences — they’re allowed to lie and lead you with their questioning — even something as simple as “where are you headed?” can put you in a position you don’t want to be in — not everyone can practice this safely, but just know the cops are not working for you or with you in most cases and proceed with caution

OOH YES! this is hard because they’re all so queer in my head. most of this is purely opinion and is very bias. ALSO by sexuality i don’t mean who they have sex with. they’re kids. i just mean their identities in the queer community.

#1 is simon. he’s described as very strange, gentle, more motherly than the others, etc. this may be playing into stereotypes, but it is a very old book. in the time it was written (between 1937 and 1949), queer was used as weird OR as a slur for gay/feminine men (oh anon, i did my research: here). simon is referred to as queer by the other boys, possibly because yeah, he’s weird, but also possibly because he’s….you know…. (also im a huge simon kinnie so he gets first). simon doesn’t seem to fit in with the other boys, maybe because he’s different as far as sexuality goes.

#2 is jack. he gives me aggressive mlm transmasc vibes (mostly w modern au in my head but still). also, his interactions with ralph (the fact that his confident demeanor is quickly turned embarrassed at any mistake or weakness that ralph sees, etc.). plus, straight boys don’t brag about being the leader of a choir (pls this is a stereotype and a joke don’t come for me-) my personal reasons for headcanoning him as trans (again, not like i really think he’s trans in the book, but this is what i use to support my logic): c sharp is not an impressive note for a 12 year old boy unless he means like a really high c sharp, meaning a much higher voice, possibly meaning he could be AFAB and have a higher natural range. also, his need to be seen as a scary strong “masculine” hunter is painfully obvious.

#3 is piggy. his obsession with ralph is a little fruity. plus, he just gives me strong gay vibes. trust me

#4 is ralph. his inability to hate jack and to think jack could ever actually hurt him is clearly based in love (be it platonic or romantic). the way he disassociates the “savage” version of jack from the “real” version of jack in his mind is a way to convince himself that jack does care and could never be like he is

#5 is roger, simply because we don’t have much book evidence other than “emo choir kid who likes to hurt people”. i adore roger but most of my interpretations and headcanons are based on the personality the fandom has given him over the years.

My last ask was a bit..confusing, I know. I’m just trying to say that if it’s an ‘x reader fic’ with a specific gender, then don’t put the opposite gender in your tags, it just confuses people.

And that every single ‘gn reader’ fic is basically the exact same thing. The reader is smaller, shorter, feminine, and has female anatomy. I just feel like we need more GN readers that aren’t the same thing over and over again.

Not everyone is the same, but in basically every fic, it’s the same cis woman with the same figure, hair, and shape.

I think my MAIN problem with stuff like this is, I search up something x male reader, then get punched in the face with a something x FEMALE reader with a ‘x male reader’ in the tags.

Oh yeah I definitely agree! One of my moots said the reason as to why they’re using wrong tags is to reach a bigger audience but how did fem readers come to this agreement and when did they decide that the male reader and gn reader is for taking is beyond me

Also yes! When I first started reading gn I was like am I being dysphoric or what is it about this fic and tbh 90% of the time it’s bc fem insert authors write gn readers but have a cis white skinny straight girl in mind🧍🏻
