I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure about the names I've given. There are multiple ways to do a crochet provisional CO and multiple ways to do a provisional CO over a cable or piece of scrap yarn, and they don't seem to have different names. So some of the options may actually describe more than one technique. (I know of at least three ways to do Judy's Magic CO.) If people want, I can try to find photographs illustrating the different techniques.
Please give more info in the tags or comments! Also I'd love to hear your reasons for why you like or dislike a particular technique.

Over the weekend I used some sock yarn scraps to knit a replica of the purse found with the Gunnister Man! The pattern I used included lots of fun info, including instructions on how to copy the really unusual cast-on he used, & the fact that he had an unfinished knitting project in another one of his pockets.
It was really fun & I want to knit more sometime! I ended up making this one a few inches longer to hold my phone & wallet, so some of the colorwork is me doodling instead of a direct copy. Maybe I'll pick 'accurate' colors in the future, but hey, I figure if he had access to a broader range of colors, maybe he'd've used a little hot pink too. 🧶

Witchy Arts and Crafts: Yarn Dolls
Right now I'm resisting the urge to tell a recipe blogger-esque story before actually getting to the main point of the post, because I do, in fact, have a sentimental story about where I first encountered yarn dolls, but it's not important and my will power is strong, so let's get into it.
Yarn dolls are fairly cheap to construct, (cheap dollar store yarn or scraps from other projects are perfect for this) and full of all kinds of magical potential.
Tumblr media
The yarn doll pictured above was crafted lovingly by yours truly. I made it by following these instructions. They did a decent job of explaining it, so I'm going to move on to the ✨️magic✨️.
🧶 Use in spells when you need to represent a person (poppet magic)
🧶 Use color magic in the yarn selection
🧶 Use to house servitors
🧶 Use on altars to represent particular spirit or deity
🧶 Incorporate knot magic in the constructing of the doll
🧶 Give as a gift (possibly to the children in your life) and infuse it with blessings ahead of time
I'm convinced that I've thought of other ways to use them that I can't remember right now, but oh well. I just think they're really neat, and great for magic in general and poppet magic in particular.

💜The Black Panther has (finally) arrived💜
Seriously, I've been attempting to make a variation or several, of Black Panther as well as a pattern and while I could have used black yarn I literally had no idea where I was going with this most recent attempt -- meaning I thought I'd have to scrap it like the other times.
Glad I stuck with it and thought long and hard about 'trusting the process' because I think this is the one that's gonna stick even after some editing of the pattern.
I used some source photos of both T'Challa and Shuri in their suits to design this doll, but I pulled more from T'Challa's suits.
I have a few purple yarns I bought awhile back just for a Black Panther doll. Those who know the movies know the Heart Shaped Herb is purple.
I'd really like to make the Panther in other colors as well. I'm thinking tribal colors obviously, but maybe some bold neon colors and of course some in black. I'd also like to make some in other weights of yarn.
Obviously the pattern is an easy make especially without any color variations to the head and the body, but the detailing is what took the longest time.
Anyway, be sure to check/follow my Etsy Shop in the near future for the addition of Black Panther dolls as well as the pattern!
I also just dropped a Short on my YouTube Channel if you'd like to check it out:

🧶🧵 :]
first one here i wuv you eulie
two patterns from me. for meryl. mewyw
more of a practical thing but spirale tends to be colder than a desert, so these convertible gloves, so she can write and stay toasty at the same time. i've knitted these one million times because i kept losing them, but currently have a pair of these without the mitten part.
also this lace shawl. surprisingly fast knit because you're using fingering yarn on larger needles, very easy pattern that doesn't take a lot of yarn but is still beautiful. like i said for vash, even if meryl's from a sheltered background, noman's land is still probably a place that values being able to make a lot from very little, or scraps. plus it's quite light, it'll serve you well in the blistering sun.

🧶 You probably remember these blankets which are known as Granny Square Blankets. They became very popular in the 1970’s. One of the most traditional and most recognizable forms of crochet, these squares been used to make slippers, sweaters, skirts, blankets and bags. But have you ever wondered how the ever-faithful Granny Square came about?
Information about their creation is scarce, but most sources suggest that Granny Squares were first made by the early settlers of the United States. They were known at the time as Patchwork Squares. Yarn was difficult to come by and too expensive to be wasted. It had to be used sparingly and any remnants were set aside. Mismatched scraps were worked into squares and stitched together to make blankets and rugs, similar to the origin of patchwork quilts.
It's unclear when or how the Patchwork Square became a Granny, but there was a resurgence in popularity in the 1970s. The hodgepodge of colour fit the hippie, wild child era perfectly.
For me granny squares fall into the category of old fashioned goodness. They conjure up images of mountain cabins, churned butter, and home baked bread. While I neither churn butter nor bake bread, I love the thought of them.
Granny squares are timeless. They have the ability to be old fashioned and modern all at the same time.

Headband done!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pattern:
What's More Canadian by Athena Forbes. She includes blank charts so you can design your own colourwork. My pattern was inspired by my Sears pajamas. I added 12 stitches and knit at a tighter gauge because I couldn't get my colourwork to look even at her gauge (this is only my second time doing stranded colourwork).
🧶Yarn:
Crochet provisional cast on: Patons Grace in Navy.
Headband: Patons Canadiana in White, Cardinal and Navy Blue, Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted in Baby Blue.
Needles:
Cast on: 4mm Clover Amour crochet hook and 3.5mm Knit Picks Options Sunstruck knitting needle.
Plain stockinette: 3.5mm Knit Picks Options Sunstruck interchangeable needles.
Colourwork: 5mm Knit Picks Options Sunstruck interchangeable needles.
Picking up stitches: 3.5mm Clover Bamboo Knitting Repair Hook (I LOVE THIS THING.)
Kitchener: 3.5mm Knit Picks Options Sunstruck and 3.5mm Knit Picks Foursquare interchangeable needles.
Fixing dropped stitches: 4mm Disc crochet hook.
What I learned:
Four different provisional cast ons. Judy's Magic Cast On was impossible. I prefer the PCO over a cable needle, but only if I have a very flexible cable; otherwise I get totally confused when trying to join in the round (this would probably be less of a problem with larger circumferences). I ended up using a crochet provisional cast on, and did not enjoy picking up the stitches. It felt like it took almost as long as knitting the whole headband: each stitch got pulled super tight by the stitch that had just been picked up onto the needle, and I had to tease each one out carefully to keep from splitting it. But it was better than trying to pick stitches up from a lifeline, which I find nearly impossible.
I don't enjoy tensioning two yarns in the same hand: It's just not relaxing. In the future I will avoid projects that have more than a few 3-colour rows. Unless I can get my hands on a yarn guide ring; I'd like to try one of those.
It's much easier to get your floats long enough with fuzzier, grippier yarn. I practised my colourwork with some rough scrap yarn and ended up with a technique that resulted in the floats in my dominant yarn being too short with this much more slippery yarn: the stitches are disappearing into the fabric.
When doing colourwork with worsted weight yarn, I need to go up 1.5mm in needle size to get the same gauge as my plain stockinette.
I love my Knit Picks Options Sunstruck needles for this slippery acrylic, but I wish the cables were more flexible.
If I ever do a project where the Kitchener stitch is visible, I will need to practise a bunch first, with a different coloured yarn so I can tell what's happening.
How to tink Kitchener stitch. (Turns out of you knit off when you were supposed to purl off, you end up with a dropped stitch.)
The sweater curse is real, and it applies to headbands too.

Yarn Every day 🧶
Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you? I can’t help myself when it comes to getting the yarn out. I love the colours and textures and I find it amazing how you can turn it into all sorts of beautiful creations. I look forward to it everyday . I love sorting the colours into different groups and making little yarn balls of the scraps that are too long ( in my opinion) to…
