Something something the curtains are blue or whatever but underappreciated media analysis phenomenon is when someone else reads something you wrote and points out the blue curtains that you hadn't even noticed yourself hanging up while you built it. Like fuck they sure are I genuinely hadn't noticed I just flung em up I was concentrating on the carpet. Hey that shade of blue goes nice with the carpet huh. I should get more decor in that colour. Does this make sense to anyone

#like my pal proofread some poetry for me and one of the things they said was like #'your cadence is really good and i like how you do bouncy assonance rhymes when you're playing or introducing a concept #then sharper rhythmic rapid lines when youre passionate or angry and then switch abruptly to a completely different rhyme scheme to #indicate that you've gotten upset or reached a conclusion' #i never in my life noticed myself doing that. i just write based on vibes and mouthfeel. but now theyve pointed it out??? #dude its in like half my poems. its a really recognisable voice. i didnt know i had one of those and i definitely didnt know #that my choice of meter is such a clear emotional throughline to a reader #but yken what. i like that shade of blue

NaPoWriMo #14: A poem about two people who start out as enemies and become lovers

Change of Heart

In preschool you were horrid, smashing sand into my face. In second grade, you tripped me in the big three-legged race. In middle school, you mocked me when I lost the spelling bee and acted like you'd vomit when you came in sight of me.

Our senior year, you saved me when my date left me at prom. You drove me home and helped me to explain it to my mom. Our freshman year of college, we were partners in that class. Without your help in chemistry I never would have passed.

When Dad was in that car crash you stayed with me while I cried. I wanted to be with him but I had no other ride. You ditched all of your classes and you took me 'cross the state. The tacos we got afterward were kind of our first date.

We fought at graduation and agreed that we were through. Then for the next two years I thought I was well rid of you. When in town for Joe's wedding, I was far beyond surprised when you found me in private and at last apologized.

We kept in constant contact through our emails, texts, and calls Before long it was like we'd never been apart at all. I've found that I can trust you and share with you everything yet I didn't expect you to show up here with a ring.

When looking at the past we've shared, we had a rocky start, but proofs of your good nature gave you place within my heart. I've seen you at your worst and also seen you at your best, so with how well I know you I just have to answer

#napowrimo 2024 #poetry #this prompt is close to a week old #i thought it could be fun to try for a tokien-ish fantasy narrative #but the mundane life story seemed like it would be easier #hahahahahahaha no #this meter just about killed me #i can come up with eight syllable lines and six syllable ones but seven was a nightmare #my artistic integrity reared its head and wouldn't let me cheat the way i did with some of the others #the resulting poem was NOT worth all the trouble i took with it #and i'm still not convinced that some of the lines aren't bamboozling me #but it is done for now and i think i'm officially burned out on long rhyming narrative poems

So you had once mentioned that Batman trying to rescue/free darling, that would trigger a origins Deathstroke type of boss battle with Jason, and I’m curious, what other thots did you have on how that would go? Also bonus points if there’s a part at the end where there’s like falling debris or something and Jason makes a beeping for darling and shields them and Batman sees just how much he loves her

So Jason could NOT beat Batman in a simple hand to hand fight, and I think he knows this lol. It's why his biggest weapon is his familiarity to Bruce and exploiting his weaknesses in conjunction with overkill attacks. He's going to use pistols to be somewhat up-close without being at risk of getting disarmed, and put pressure on Bruce with his militia. Basically the Jason boss fight as I hoped it would go in-game is a mix of predator combat with him and the militia (like what we got), but that Jason also adapts in COMBAT one-on-one. Remember in City where if you did a type of attack, Freeze would adapt and you couldn't use it anymore? Jason's combat segments do the same thing: You use your Quickfire Batarang once, it doesn't work after that. Use a cape stun and beat-em-up combo? Only works once. I would also go one step further and implement a way to track what your most commonly used attacks/gadgets are in combat sections throughout the WHOLE game, and during the boss fight make them unusable. It makes sense narratively since Jason will have been observing Batman's strategy/fighting style the entire game and should be adapting accordingly. But Rocksteady only had so much money and so much time and fixing Jason's boss fight is one of MANY priorities they should've improved on lol.

With Darling, I think they'd work as a potential "stage hazard" of sorts. Once Jason is at 0 health, Darling rushes to try and prevent him from killing Batman/beg him to stop, this isn't worth it. And with Jason's hatred for Bruce overtaking his protectiveness at the one moment he has to kill Bruce himself, he lashes out and fires a warning shot at Darling (similar to the one he fires at Barbara after she crashes the car). His warning shot is however WAY closer than he intended and actually grazes them, and he panics thinking that he's injured or killed the one person he promised he'd protect.

Bruce uses the distraction to defeat Jason, but things play out similarly to the endgame where Scarecrow takes Jim hostage and has him go to Arkham. Bruce, accepting that he might really die tonight, gives Jason the first aid kit in his utility belt and tells Jason not to make the same mistake he did--"Don't value your mission over someone you love getting hurt." Batman's crusade against crime has gotten so many people he's cared about hurt/killed: Harvey, Barbara, Alfred (nearly dying in Origins), Jason. And he doesn't want Jason's quest for revenge to continue the cycle of loved ones being hurt when you need to focus on saving them. It's why Jason didn't realize how much Bruce had changed, when instead of focusing on Scarecrow and the Cloudburst (despite Alfred correctly pointing out Barbara would WANT Batman to value the mission over her), Batman refuses and immediately dedicates himself to saving her first.

So narratively it ties a nice little bow on things thematically and adds even more parallels between Jason and Bruce, as well as Jason and Darling. And nothing fucks my shit up like narrative parallels.

The apple, the classic, bright red like struck skin

fits firmly in your palm.

You crush it in your teeth and between your jaws, it snaps like broken bone.

Scavengers feast on what remains, what you leave behind.

The pomegranate, cut in half, bleeds like a heart

from four chambers, from its severed veins

which it doesn't need anymore, taken from its body like this

The peach falls to the ground and no one catches it in time

and it bruises readily, tenderly

martyred for the health of the earth

The cherry grows in pairs

One holds the other which holds the other back
