Mismatched
Me: Oh, I did aerial fitness once. It was a little scary but pretty fun! I might want to do more.
Cute Boy: Yeah, there’s a few things around here, but you have to travel further to do flying trapeze stuff.
Me: Oh, that would alarm me! I think I’ll just start small. Maybe I’ll build towards that.
Cute Boy: It’s a little terrifying at first, but that’s what makes it fun!

Artemis Fowl’s hideous movie: A firey review
Today I’ve decided to see the nefandous movie known as “Artemis Fowl”, just because my aim is to completely destroy that movie as that movie destroyed the book series. Caution for there will be spoiler from both books and movie. You can read my first impressions from the trailer here, and I can say that they did not change.
First thing: Disney decided to “unite” the first two books from the Artemis Fowl’s series in one movie, which is not a good idea at the core, but they failed completely, not only because of the alteration of the plot that such a cut requires, but also because the movie fails as a stand-alone, since it ends without the defeat of the villain, thus opening for a sequel, BUT IF YOU NEED A SEQUEL YOU COULD HAVE DONE ONE MOVIE FOR THE FIRST BOOK AND ONE FOR THE SECOND AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
So now I’ll list the pro and the cons of the movie.
Pro (very few):
The Ireland is as always wonderful, I longed to see the green shores, visually it didn’t disappoint at that point. Fowl’s Manor was also ok, I liked the setting, less the colours of the building.
The graphic was actually great, I loved the representation of the LEP technology and the City of Haven. In general, all the movie was a pleasure for the eyes and a knife in the heart and brain for the story.
I actually didn’t mind the cast, since the beginning. I had no problem with a black Butler, or Juliet, and to me Holly didn’t seem too young, actually she was as I imagined her. Female Root didn’t bother me, because the change of sex didn’t affect the character, so kudos to that. The actors also I think they did a good job; the problem is the writing for some of them as I’ll show later.
I was so happy to see Foaly, I was really scared that they would have cut him. We’ve seen him very little, but he didn’t seem OOC.
The Haven part was okayish? I mean the plot of the LEP instability was from the second book and it was mixed with the Mulch-Holly encounter which was from the first book. The whole scene in the end kinda works, and it is one of the two watchable scenes of the movie.
The launch from E7 with the lava vamp was very impressive, I really liked it.
The kidnapping scene until the beginning of the Fowl Manor scene when Holly wakes up was actually good, can we pretend it’s the only scene from the movie?
The battle with the troll at the Manor was also okay, a little bit different from the book but not too much except for one thing: Artemis that shoots and jumps, and he doesn’t fail doing that. That character is not Artemis Fowl II, not in a million years. In the later books Artemis is forced to move a little to save his life, but he remains unable to perform notable physical task, he’s at best as able as us couch potatoes.
End of pros of the movie, total watchable time: ten minutes at most.
Cons (very long list)
The movie has problems since the beginning, the first scene is the abduction of Artemis Fowl I, so it seems okay, but then we see THE HUMANS ARRESTING MULCH DIGGUMS. That is NOT possible, the existence of the People is concealed and it remains concealed, if Mulch is arrested, half of the premise of the series, the reason why the LEP acts in the first, the third and the fifth book (which is stopping mud people from learning that fairies exist) is cancelled. I understand that they wanted to preserve the narration technique from the books, which is that the author is Artemis’s biographer, but it doesn’t work this way. Mulch can work as a narrator, but you can’t have him narrating it to humans. In later books, there’s a character who would’ve worked very good as the role of the listener, and is Dr. Argon, who works in a clinic in Haven, and he actually has this role in the last book.
Since the beginning the entire movie revolves around the search of this “Aculos”, which is the source of People’s magic. This thing doesn’t exist in the books, but the real problem is how it is used in the movie. It works as a deus-ex-machina at the end to resolve the father’s abduction, because they finished the time screen, but they still had to save him. So no mission on the Artic, no learning to become a team, just magical teletransport (which doesn’t exist but ok).
Artemis in the first scene is surfing. Book description of Artemis Fowl II: “Riding was the only form of exercise that Artemis had taken to. This was mainly because the horse did most of the work.” He’s also described as having “two left feet”, he is not the perfect specimen of humanity, he is the greatest genius that isn’t able to jump a rope.
The scene with the psychiatric seemed great (ignoring the reference listed in the following point), but it was completely ruined at the end: Artemis would’ve never stormed off that way, he is not a normal teenager, he is practically an adult in a teen body. He’s controlled, he doesn’t externalize emotion to people, he controls them perfectly and is capable of acting and disguise his true character if necessary, and he’s able to play the emotions of the people he has in front.
Angeline Fowl is dead in the movie. That completely cancels the reason that triggers Artemis’s redemption. At the end of the first book he gives back half of the gold obtained by the people for his mother’s health, and in this book his family is pretty much the only thing he cares about besides his goal. Until the fourth book almost all his good actions are triggered by guilty conscience, caused by thinking of what his mother would’ve wished he would be. Angeline is the first positive force in Artemis’s life, and her worsened health is one of the reasons that we see such an evil Artemis in the first book.
The worst part of the movie is the fact that Artemis Fowl Senior knows about the People and works to protect them. Oh boy, I cannot even begin to list how much every word of that sentence is wrong. First: the Fowls were never protector, only criminals (yeah in the movie we are told they are, but they are justified by their motives, in the books they are criminals who care only for themselves). Second: Artemis Fowl discovers the Fairy People all by himself, it is the first time that the readers understands how clever he is, Artemis begins from zero (or only with the tales and legends) and he discovers the existence of the People, he manages to have a Book and have it copied, he decodes it and learns the language and the rules and exploits them for his plans. The Artemis in the movie doesn’t do that, he has everything already prepared by his father (to the point that I actually was led to believe that Book! Artemis was the father, but not such luck unfortunately). He is not a genius, he’s a normal teenager. I repeat: THAT. CHARACTER. IS. NOT. ARTEMIS. I will call him Orion from now on, since calling him Artemis is an insult.
Mulch mentions Butler’s name. OH. MY. GOD. His name is SECRET! Only his family and his dojo master know it, and he reveals it to Artemis in the third book because he’s in a death-or-live situation. There is no way that Mulch knows his name.
Artemis Fowl Senior was not abducted by Fairies, it was the Russian Mafia. People don’t usually mess with humans, it’s Artemis II that goes and start the interaction by kidnapping Holly.
Opal Koboi (who doesn’t even appear in the first book) is revealed to be the villain almost at the end of the second book, in a twist similar to the Bellweather’s one in Zootopia. Revealing it at the beginning takes away the twist.
After the call, Orion doesn’t deduce anything about the kidnapper and makes no plan, which Book! Artemis would’ve never done, but we are in front of his dumber twin soo…
Why put the plot that Mulch is a giant dwarf? He is not so much taller than other dwarfs in the books, I don’t see the point of this plotline.
Another invented plotline: Holly’s father. Holly has a parent who died heroically but it’s her mother, and she died because of mud people. This, in the books, is another reason why Holly doesn’t trust Artemis the early books, but in the movie is the reason why Holly trusts him, because their fathers worked together, exactly the opposite. At the end of the book, Holly relates to Artemis’s pain of having an ill parent, but it is pity, not trust.
Again, Orion does nothing but follow instructions, ok, let’s move on.
Juliet is too young; also, why did they make her Butler’s niece instead of his sister I don’t know.
This point deserves a standalone post, however I will start mentioning it here: I’m Italian, I’m fed up with the stereotypical representation of my country. It’s racist Disney, stop it.
Because of the Book’s rules Fairies cannot enter in a human building without permission. If they do, they feel ill, vomit and on the long run they might lose their magic. In the movie Orion invites Holly in the Manor but she was not affected by the rule at all. Also, this is the reason why the LEP recruited Mulch, he entered in so many human houses to steal things that he lost his magic, so that rule doesn’t apply to him anymore.
I only noticed when it happened that Orion changed in a suit after half of the movie. Artemis had to be forced to wear jeans from his mother.
The scene where Butler defends the Manor is also in the books but here Orion fights, I mean he’s not Artemis, who would have observed from a window
Why Opal claim to act for the People? Opal doesn’t care at all about the others, she just wants the powers for herself.
Why are Orion and Holly bonding? It’s too soon, they literally have no reason to trust each other at this point. Also of course Orion is so stupid that Holly manages to make him take off his sunglasses, he’s lucky that she was not book! Holly, because she would’ve knocked him down.
Mulch enters the Manor and tries to open a safe, and Orion declares that’s “exactly what he wanted”. Since I still hoped that that character was Artemis, I thought that either the safe was a test to prove Mulch’s ability before recruiting him or a trap. No, instead it was the fact that Orion isn’t able to open a safe inside his own house. How am I supposed to believe that this person is a criminal mastermind? He’s just a normal heroish-movie teenager.
Holly isn’t able to heal Butler just to create drama, also the almost death scene is supposed to be in the third book.
Artemis’s mastermind plan to overcome the People technology: not present
At the end they are all friends, even if they actually needed four books for that.
As I said before the magical resolution that they use to save the father does not work. There is no tension, no scene, no action for something that it was constructed at the beginning of the movie. The reason of everything is resolved in a magical PUFF.
Now that I see him more Artemis Fowl Senior is too kind and invested in his son since the beginning. He is supposed to be rigid in his education until he’s saved (one of the reasons why Artemis is also so stern).
They changed everything but they cut some of the best scenes: the beginning in Ho Chi Minh, Mulch that knocks out Butler, Holly’s escapade…
Artic mission (and therefore the evolution of characters that happens there which is a lot): not present
Goblin’s riot (and the plan to put out Opal Koboi): not present
This movie has the characters named after the ones in the books, it has the setting and the technology, but it has nothing to do with Artemis Fowl II’s history. They did the absolute worst they could have done plot wise, firstly because Orion says that he’s a criminal mastermind but he’s not even clever and the only criminal act that he does is the kidnapping (but we know from the beginning that it’s for the good of his father and the world, where in the books we discover later that he wants to save his father). As I already said the beauty of this series is that it shows Artemis redemption, from villain to hero, it’s a long road and it’s done gradually.
Second: if you want to make a stand-alone movie of Artemis Fowl, you could just adapt the first book. Opal is of course the most important and interesting villain of the series, but each book works also as a standalone itself. Even without a sequel, ending the movie with the victory of Artemis against the People works well.
If you did want to adapt the first two book in one movie, there was only one way to do it well, and it’s Zootopia. Really that movie is a more faithful adaption of the first two books.
In the end they only managed to make a movie without not only a good plot, but also an ending. As I said at the beginning, the movie ends with Opal still on the loose, so congratulations: you achieved nothing at all.

Horizon: Zero Dawn review
Tumblr media
Here’s a weird little idiosyncrasy-slash-crippling weakness of mine - I find it nearly impossible to write about things I really enjoy. Perhaps it’s because I hate gushing, but I can’t really overstate just how fucking annoying it is that I can only provide opinions on art that is either some version of ‘okay’, or ludicrously shit. For example, I’ve previously mentioned that there are only three or four pieces of art that I’ve witnessed in the world that I would nominate as a 10 out of 10, and try as I might I simply can’t seem to find the words to adequately express my feelings about them. I think the issue here is that I feel like my commentary on an amazing piece of art needs to meet some invisible standard of quality wherein it gives an excellent description of the piece’s virtues without resorting to effusive emotional over-statement, and anyone who knows me knows that effusive emotional over-statement is my jam.
So I suppose this is one of the reasons why it’s taken me so long to talk about Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Well, that, and the fact that it’s not quite as black and white as ‘it’s an excellent open-world action-RPG’. I mean, it IS an excellent open-world action-RPG, but this fact is only part of the appeal, and even though I might think it is the bee’s knees, I have to counterbalance this with the fact that there is a lot about Horizon: Zero Dawn that isn’t particularly original, especially in today’s over-saturated open-world action-RPG market. If Horizon was one of only a few games in its genre it could quite possibly be one of the best games ever made, but I have trouble giving it that label precisely because of the glut of other releases from which it borrows its features from - if you’ve played any of the Assassin’s Creed or Uncharted games then you’ll be well-acquainted with the stalky-stabby-hidey-ridey-hack-and-slashy-climby-climby gameplay on show here.
But don’t let my shilly-shallying about the mechanics of the game distract from the fact that I think it’s a landmark release; it holds a place rather similar to The Witcher 3 in my mind, in that it takes a decade of iteration and expansion in its genre and makes a masterpiece out of that, and again, much like The Witcher 3, this almost entirely comes down to the quality of the writing and performances, as complimented by fantastic mechanics and gorgeous visuals.
Horizon: Zero Dawn is the story of Aloy (not ‘alloy’) - an outcast from birth from the Nora tribe, a band of primitive and superstitious humans who, since having their lands raided and their peoples kidnapped by the blood-thirsty former king of the neighbouring Carja tribe, have become deeply xenophobic and isolated in their mountain-hemmed valley. Aloy is raised by Rost, a seasoned hunter and rigidly principled man determined to uphold his exile for reasons he refuses to explain. As Aloy approaches her 18th birthday she opts to take part in The Proving - a test of her physical and mental skills that offers her the chance to fully rejoin the tribe. But when the competitors in The Proving are attacked by a band of raiders who seem intent on killing Aloy in particular, she is nominated as a Seeker by the Nora elders, and is free to travel into the larger world with the mission of discovering both her origins, and the cause of the new scourge upon her community.
And this patchy and kind-of-inaccurate synopsis is really as much as I can say without moving into spoiler territory, which is a damn shame, because Horizon has one of the best stories of any game I’ve played in a long, long time. This is not just down to the quality of the story itself, but also to the quality of the storytelling. Horizon takes everything I raved about in my post about Black Isle’s use of exploration and the design of the game world as a storytelling medium, and applies it to great effect. As such, we, the players, are placed in the same role as the protagonist - beginning in a child-like stage, we are vulnerable, and introduced to the dangers and wonders of the world bit by bit, and as we explore further into the unknown, the environment around us grows and grows and grows, becoming ever-more awe-inspiring as we progress. It really is a near-perfect mixture of open-world gameplay and curated exploration, and there is rarely a point in which you feel like you shouldn’t be moving too far ahead because you’re going to bypass something interesting. As in New Vegas, the use of wide valleys as a way to both make the player feel like they’re free to roam whilst also meting out the features of the game is flawlessly executed, and results in an open-world game that is also, somehow, impeccably paced.
This only really falters in two places - firstly, when the largest section of the game is opened up and one is overwhelmed by the amount of opportunity suddenly available, and secondly, in the fact that the story missions don’t exactly lead you delicately through the map. One of the earliest missions after you leave the opening territory sends you to the farthest corner of the game world, and the fact that I would have to pass so much content in order to get there triggered my FOMO and led me to leave the story until the very, very, final end of the game once I’d completed everything else there was to do. This was a mistake, a) because the story is fantastic and you don’t lose anything by completing it earlier on, and b) because once you’ve conquered literally every other challenge the game throws at you, pursuing the story feels a little redundant. It’s also a shame that so much of the main quests take place at one specific, isolated end of the world, which is a strange miscalculation in my opinion when the developers have created such a rich, gorgeous, and varied environment for their players to explore.
But even if I think that these things could have been improved on, they ultimately don’t do much to overshadow the achievements of the game in all of its other areas. The characters look unbelievably lifelike, and despite the occasionally stilted facial animation and some static conversation camerawork, the characters are voiced and animated extremely well. The script is intelligent and emotive, and tells an incredibly compelling story that I just want to talk about with SOMEONE (please, for the love of God, Alice, finish the fucking game!), which is especially noteworthy because Horizon goes out of its way to offer a strange and beautiful world that poses so many questions to the player, and then makes the incredible effort to answer pretty much every one of them by the time it’s over.
I should elaborate here for those that aren’t acquainted with the game - Aloy lives in a world populated by machines. Specifically, machines that look like animals. Most are in some way aggressive, although apparently that wasn’t always the case, and the game’s death cult enemies have managed to corrupt and enslave some of them in order to use them as weapons. These animals range from flying bird-like creatures to giant bulls to fire-and-ice-shooting crocodiles to gargantuan dinosaurs. And in the course of encountering these creatures, you’ll also encounter the diverse biomes that they exist in: cold Nordic wastelands, humid and palm-dotted Egyptian river deltas, arid North American mesas, and even the ruins of an ancient civilisation. And it would be one thing for the developers to have just imagined a fantasy universe in which all these things exist a hop, skip, and a jump from one another, and to leave it at that - Final Fantasy has been successful for three decades doing this very same thing. But it’s all explained, everything is explained, and the explanation is compelling and evocative and interesting and fun. There aren’t many stones left unturned, and yet the game never feels like it’s bogging you down in exposition or having to slow to a crawl to catch you up; I was happy to watch and listen as the mysteries were revealed, and Horizon is one of very few games with such an ambitious narrative that is actually worth the effort you take to uncover it.
But hey, it can’t hurt that the uncovering is just so much fun, can it? Taking a leaf from CD Projekt Red’s soon-to-be award winning book ‘Open-World Game Design, And How Not To Fuck It All Up’, Horizon is filled to the brim with fun and interesting gameplay, challenging and wonder-invoking enemies, engaging characters, and many, many varied side-quests. In fact, the game is one of only a few to clearly divert from the typical ‘main quest/side quest’ delineation of most modern open-world games. Instead, Horizon operates on a number of levels; the first of which being the main missions in which you investigate Aloy’s past; the second being a number of multi-staged, large-in-scope second-tier missions in which you deal with ongoing problems in the world at large like civil wars and wide-reaching political intrigues; the third level involves the smaller, one-off side missions more typical of these games such as saving strangers from danger or helping resolve disputes; and then you have all the other additional content such as hunting and gathering quests, collectibles of various types, and various combat challenges. This variety staves off a lot of tedium that one feels in other, lesser games, and keeps you constantly surprised and engaged given that you never quite know exactly how deep the next story is going to go. Even the most basic challenges (hunt here, kill there, etc, etc) are fun because the combat and stealth gameplay is so enjoyable, and the fact that most machines can be crippled or destroyed in a number of different, spectacular, and rewarding ways only adds to the challenge and variation and excitement in taking them down. It’s something that makes the game exciting to come back to after you’ve finished it, and even though I’m still playing Assassin’s Creed: Origins, I know that it’s probably going to be a one-and-done situation for me, in the same way that ALL the other Assassin’s Creed games have been. Whereas Horizon? I’m definitely going to return to it, and I’m going to approach it in a totally different way, because I can.
It’s worth a mention as well that the game doesn’t just maintain a high standard of quality and integrity in its mechanics, but also in its DLC, and it’s extremely heartening to see that the only additional content released for the the game is more akin to the expansion packs from the days of yore - a single, 15-odd-hour addition to the base game that has its own story and environment and additions to the gameplay that are both seamless and complimentary to the base, as well as being a substantial and worthwhile standalone investment. In fact, just looking it up now, ‘The Frozen Wilds’ is actually officially referred to as an ‘expansion pack’, and this gives me all kinds of warm-and-fuzzy feelings (and for some reason makes me want to go back and play the Mysteries of the Sith expansion for Dark Forces 2).
The Frozen Wilds is apparently the first and last addition we will see for the game, which is a shame because it’s so good, but then again I’d always prefer to have a numerically smaller amount of great content than be overfed on shitty cosmetic items, crap DLC quests, and other such symptoms of the disease that is modern DLC culture. And while I can’t say with certainty that Guerilla Games won’t release anything else for the game, there’s something uniquely joyous in knowing that to buy the DLC for Horizon is to improve a complete game with some relevant extra content that expands the lore and experience, rather than feeling like you’re just stapling something functionally redundant and narratively incongruent to the body of the main game.
With God of War’s recent release to massive acclaim, I’m becoming more and more convinced that console-exclusive games are one of the few things keeping the spirit of artistic integrity and quality in the ‘AAA’ industry alive. Were it not for games like that and like Horizon: Zero Dawn, which stand sparsely in resistance to the flood of catch-all money-machine publisher/developers that produce barely-iterative annual-release tat, we’d be drowning in a sea of games infinitely wide and an inch deep (and yes, despite my positive impressions of their newest releases, I’m still talking about companies like Ubisoft, whose games are both fun and tiresome at the same time). And so it is that Horizon: Zero Dawn is legitimately one of the best games available to play on the PS4 right now, and one of the best open-world action-RPG games ever released, and it’s a shame that rather than shining down upon us like a beacon from the heavens, its light is somewhat lost amongst the sea of other lesser, but like-minded releases. I suppose one could call this a flaw in the game’s design, but when you get down and play the thing it becomes difficult to figure out how to frame it as such when everything it does is in some way an improvement over how its been done before. It is, without any doubt in my mind, a must-play, and I really need to talk about the story with someone, so please, for the love of god Alice, finish the damn game already.

The Radiant Sun Redux
Introduction
Maybe I wouldn’t have realized the need for an extensive, plotted rewrite of the book and definitions accompanying the Oracle of the Radiant Sun if, in fact, my moon was not in Leo, and if I had not drawn the card representing the Moon in Leo on New Year’s Eve.
Here’s the card that made the decision for me, about whether or not to go forward:
Tumblr media
Because even though I had already toyed with the idea, THIS card’s write-up was so egregious, and reminded me so much of those useless newspaper horoscopes that turned me off to astrology for decades, and highlighted such an extreme cultural difference between America and England, (and by the by affronted me and my Leo Moon personally), that something obviously had to be done.
So I am starting with this card even though I’ll be doing the rest of the deck in the order the authors gave them.  This card, APPRECIATION, is the begining for me, and so apt, in all regards.
Things I Appreciate about The Book
The idea of merging Horary Astrology and the form of an oracle on cards was, on the surface, pretty ingenious, and also incredibly complex.  The entire concept necessitated a lot of work, study, knowledge, and decision-making in two fairly incompatible directions, and despite the extreme drawbacks of the book, this shows-- Smith and Astrop put a lot of work into this.
John Astrop was an extremely experienced astrologer who designed some of the first computer programs for astrologers.  He was the author of over a hundred books on the subject of astrology, including a whole series for parents to help them understand their wee baby Scorpios or what have you.  So this guy was no slouch.  My beef with him and his book has nothing to do with my sense of his expertise or seriousness.  This wasn’t someone who threw something together carelessly.
Another thing I like about the book is how well organized it is.
And that’s pretty much it.
What I Do Not Appreciate
The idea just doesn’t work.  Merging two entirely disparate systems seems like a good idea at first but it becomes, pretty rapidly, an attempt to merge one set of things that are tangible with arbitrarily assigned meaning (astrology) and another set of tangible things with arbitrarily assigned meaning (cards), but the party of the first part is, you know, an actual thing that is happening regardless of what you think it means.  The moment you are born, the sky looks a certain way, period.  The moment you ask a specific question the stars and planets are in specific places, period.  That’s what horary astrology is-- the moment the question is “born” is the moment the stars are consulted, which is pretty neat and the basis for most ancient astrologers’ jobs with royal courts.
And what the sky looks like when you ask your question will have, most likely, ZERO to do with which cards you pull from this oracle deck.  The two things are operating on a totally different wavelength.  There’s nothing wrong with either of those wavelengths, but there is also nothing whatsoever connected between those two things.
That said, it’s not that there’s zero connection symbolically between astrology and, say, Tarot.  Tarot cards have a lot of interconnections to astrology.  There’s no reason these cards can’t be utilized in that fashion, perhaps even more directly.  The germ of the idea isn’t terrible, but the way the book attempts to carry it through is kind of a disaster.
The main thing I do not appreciate is the fact a PERSONAL HOROSCOPE makes no sense to include on a card that anyone can pull out of the deck.  There is no good context in which this will work, hence my comparison to cheesey newspaper sun sign horoscopes that are largely useless.
Example:  APPRECIATION
At the top of the page it reads:  APPRECIATION.  Moon in Leo.  [Shows the astrological symbols.]  MOON-Security.  LEO-Creative Self-Expression.
Take a good look at that card.  Here’s the description in the book:  “...a rich and elegant lady performs on a lute.  Her audience is a swift symbolizing spring and new creation.  Below is a cornucopia bursting with fruit symbolizing man and woman, Sun and Moon.”
And now the book definitions:  “PERSONAL.  The emotions of somewhat prima-donna-ish Moon/Leo characters require affection, appreciation, and lots of good opportunities for over-dramatic expression.  This card indicates a need to be center stage as regards feelings, because for Leos big is beautiful, and they can be as emotionally generous as they are bullying.  Emotionally, Moon/Leo people are great romantics.  Feelings are important to them and must be apreciated and respected if Moon lions are to maintain their usual warm optimism.  Children can be an important part of their life and, whether they have any of their own or not, people with th is planet/sign combination are fond of the company of young-thinking people.  This basically emotionally optimistic person has a tendency to over-impulsive actions where loved ones are concerned.  He or she often has a good natural feeling for art and can benefit from developing latent talents in this area.”
Okay, it’s New Year’s Eve, a traditional time to consult an oracle.  Usually I use Tarot but this year I got funsy and used this deck.  One of the three cards I pulled was APPRECIATION.  A word that has a definition, and a word that, when it appears on a card, by itself with specific images, gives you a very particular feeling, idea, advice even?  You know, the main reason people consult an oracle on the New Year, combined with wanting to know what might lie ahead?
And instead you get a whole slew of ideas about... Moon Leos.  Say you are a Moon Leo, you’re nothing like any of that, and you are aware that your entire chart is in play so that’s probably why, but how is any of that helpful?  That’s a lot of real estate taken up on a page to make a bunch of general commentary on someone with their Moon in Leo, and emphasis on “general” and “commentary” because
Tumblr media
None of that commentary is implied by the card, either in terms of image, the word it is illustrating, or even the notation at the top of the page about the astrological symbols and their meanings.  But say you are NOT a Moon Leo-- what does any of that have to do with you?  Was this entire process of consulting your oracle deck a waste of your time?  Sure seems like.
He goes on:  “When this card appears in a reading, it can indicate a powerful need for recognition in some aspect of life.  There may be a feeling that those around are not responding appreciatively enough, provoking an unhelpful over-the-top response”  Imma stop him for a sec, how on earth is anyone going to get that from this card?  From the image?  From the word APPRECIATION?  In context with many cards in a traditional Tarot type reading maybe the first sentence, okay, but the rest of it?  And in a single-card draw?
He continues:  “The card can also indicate emotional dependency on a partner or close friends.  Positively, if the card does not refer to the questioner, it can portray someone popular, generous, and much admired by others.”  So if this card is drawn by you for you, you’re a mess, but if you want to know about someone else, they’re awesome, and also if neither of you has a Moon in Leo it still somehow applies to you for reasons, or it doesn’t and you need to find a card that does.  Got it.
And last:  “EVENTS:  A lavish occasion;  theatrical event, children’s performance; pride in an achievement;  short-lived fame, excessively dramatic behavior;  family party or gathering.”  Three of these things are not events, by any stretch of the imagination.
(Sigh.)
This is what makes any book accompanying any deck, what’s the word, BAD.  It is a bad book if it doesn’t mesh with the cards.
One of the constants throughout this book is how resolutely negative each of his definitions are compared to the images on the cards.  Some of this negativity is really excessive, especially for a deck that doesn’t use reversals (I do, so we’ll get into that a bit.)
Also many of his definitions don’t fit the card at hand but will fit another card that actually means the thing he ascribes to another card.  For example, OPTIMISM is for no apparent reason also about “extreme and immovable fundamentalism”, and yet this deck literally has a card called EXTREMISM.  You’ll note the repeated references to “drama” and “over the top” and such with APPRECIATION-- yet there is literally, in this deck, a card called DRAMA.
Books on oracles and Tarot often step into the role of a professional reader to ostensibly help the amateur who is trying a deck of cards for the first time to have a successful reading, and that’s fine.  But it’s often unclear when an author’s opinions are just that, opinions, and not a hard and fast definition.  It would be more useful to add an example of the card in a reading so the person excitedly trying out their first or second or thirtieth new deck will clearly see there are myriad ways of interpreting the card, and this deck would have benefitted from this.  Then the author, a man of experience and a wide knowledge base, could have put his opinions of Moon Leos or whatever in there without ruining what is probably a perfectly good and perhaps brilliant divination tool.
So let’s fix this.
My Rewrite
When this card appears upright in a reading, it can indicate a powerful need for recognition in some aspect of life and that it is time to pursue this.  It can mean that the querant is appreciated more than they realize, or are unaware of how much they should appreciate about themselves and their circumstances.  It is time to be thankful and show your gratitude for this.  If the card does not refer to the querant, it can portray someone popular, generous, and much admired by others, or someone the querant should appreciate more.
When this card appears reversed, it can indicate emotional dependency on others to show appreciation for the querant-- for example, if this card appears reversed in a reading with cards indicating jealousy, insecurity, and drama, the meaning might be that the querant needs to take a step back and remember they cannot find in others what they cannot find in themselves. This card might indicate a need to be center stage, and there may be a feeling that those around are not responding appreciatively enough.  Acknowledge these feelings.
PERSONAL.  Moon/Leo characters require affection, appreciation, and lots of good opportunities for self expression.   Moon/Leo people are great romantics. Feelings are important to them and must be apreciated.  He or she often has a good natural feeling for art and can benefit from developing latent talents in this area.
EVENTS:  A lavish occasion;  theatrical event, children’s performance; pride in an achievement;  family party or gathering;  awards ceremony;  promotion or congratulations
See how I moved and shortened “Personal” so those who might have a Moon in Leo (and know about it) can see a general newspaper-horoscope definition and find something useful in the context of the card?  I’m a big fan of usefulness in a reading.  It does nothing to tell someone a bunch of general opinions about something they can’t change-- it’s perfectly fine to tell someone the consensus opinion, sans judgement, and let them see if it fits them.  (No, this definition still largely doesn’t fit me, but that’s okay, because in the context of my overall chart I can see where the parts that do fall into place.)
Conclusion
So that’s where I’ll be going with this over the course of the year.  As I go I’ll be writing each of my rewrites out and putting them in the book, possibly even gluing over the pages, so I can consult it when I need to.
Because above all, I deeply appreciate the feel of this deck, the images, the energy of the ideas behind it, and the couple who put it together as what was probably an exciting labor of love.  That energy wasn’t destroyed by my objections to the follow-through that is the book, and that alone is a testament to how worthwhile this deck really is.
Thank you for reading.

yo, hey -- i want you to take every single one of those asks, all of them, all 50 of them, and i want a full report on Neicoi, chop chop
YOU CRAZY NUT. Ok, here goes a long fuckin’ thing on my drunk asshole.
1. How does your character think of their father? What do they hate and love about him? What influence - literal or imagined - did the father have?
She doesn’t really think much about him, because she never knew him. She has no respect for him because to her he was just some guy who came around and didn’t care enough to stay for her or her mother. Even though he did love her mother, he isn’t there now, so to Neicoi he’s scum. He’s had zero influence on her life.
2. Their mother? How do they think of her? What do they hate? Love? What influence - literal or imagined - did the mother have?
Though they disagree heavily on most things, Neicoi loves her mother dearly. She sees her when she can, and although a lot of the time they end up arguing (in other words, Neicoi arguing while her mother sits by peacefully), she secretly enjoys all the time they spend with each other, little as it may be. She admires how strong her mother is, though she’d never say it to her face. She takes that as an example of how she should be.
3. Brothers, sisters? Who do they like? Why? What do they despise about their siblings?
Neicoi has no siblings. At least, not that she knows of. There could be someone out there, a half sibling, but who knows?
4. What type of discipline was your character subjected to at home? Strict? Lenient?
While Neicoi’s mother wasn’t as strict as many of the other Gerudo women, Neicoi had a very strict upbringing by the rest of the tribe. She was trained since she was very young, and there was little room for error and no time for play.
5. Were they overprotected as a child? Sheltered?
Hardly. It’s a cruel world, so deal with it.
6. Did they feel rejection or affection as a child?
Her mother was certainly affectionate towards her, so there was no rejection there. However, she didn’t get along well with much of anyone else so she didn’t exactly get the same feeling from others.
7. What was the economic status of their family?
Neicoi’s mother is a higher-ranking individual, so they did well. Not that it would have mattered anyways. Thievery was always part of it. It wouldn’t have mattered if they were the lowest of the low, because she would have gotten what they needed.
8. How does your character feel about religion?
While she follows the same beliefs as the rest of her people, she hardly worships by any means. Neicoi prefers to pave her own path rather than pray to a goddess that may or may not answer. She’s the type to make a smartass remark to the sky as if speaking to someone up there.
9. What about political beliefs?
I’m so fucking brain dead right now I don’t even know how to answer this one right now.
10. Is your character street-smart, book-smart, intelligent, intellectual, slow-witted?
She’s street smart, and as far as all things battle and war-related you know she’s got it down. But as far as anything else goes she’s exceptionally dim-witted.
11. How do they see themselves: as smart, as intelligent, uneducated?
Neicoi thinks she’s the smartest cookie in the jar of course. Even though that’s far from the truth.
12. How does their education and intelligence – or lack thereof - reflect in their speech pattern, vocabulary, and pronunciations?
Perhaps her inherent need to insult everyone? Rofl–
13. Did they like school? Teachers? Schoolmates?
What little schooling she had she hated. She was always causing problems. Most of her time was taken up by training, which she loved.
14. Were they involved at school? Sports? Clubs? Debate? Were they unconnected?
Doesn’t really apply.
15. Did they graduate? High-School? College? Do they have a PHD? A GED?
N/A
16. What does your character do for a living? How do they see their profession? What do they like about it? Dislike?
She’s a thief and a drunk. Seriously she does nothing anymore, and she hates it, which is why she drinks so damn much. She misses having a purpose. She loathes her life because of it.
17. Did they travel? Where? Why? When?
She’ll move about Hyrule as she pleases, but mostly she moves between town and the desert.
18. What did they find abroad, and what did they remember?
Disappointment and booze.
19. What were your character’s deepest disillusions? In life? What are they now?
Just because you have it good now doesn’t mean it will always be that way.
20. What were the most deeply impressive political or social, national or international, events that they experienced?
Ganon’s fall, haha.
21. What are your character’s manners like? What is their type of hero? Whom do they hate?
She has no heroes, and she hates virtually everyone. She’s an extremely moody, rude person. She treats no one with respect unless it’s earned, but there hasn’t been anyone who fit that description in a long time.
22. Who are their friends? Lovers? ‘Type’ or ‘ideal’ partner?
Neicoi doesn’t really have friends anymore. Differences in opinions and beliefs saw to that. Eventually in this reboot (IF WE EVER GET TO IT, SNOOF–) there’ll be a thing with Dark Link. She doesn’t really have a type, as relationships aren’t really a thing for her. But ideally someone who’s strong, who doesn’t back down, and is a challenge for her.
23. What do they want from a partner? What do they think and feel of sex?
She wants and expects nothing. Sex is nice, but she doesn’t think much of it.
24. What social groups and activities does your character attend? What role do they like to play? What role do they actually play, usually?
AHAHAHA–
25. What are their hobbies and interests?
Drinking. Fighting. Is there anything else? She’ll pick a fight with someone just because.
26. What does your character’s home look like? Personal taste? Clothing? Hair? Appearance?
She doesn’t have a home anymore. She stays where she pleases. As far as appearance, she has a stupid amount of red hair that she wears up, dark skin and gold eyes, and dresses similarly to the rest of her people, but in black because she’s a moody outsider. Jewelry varies. She’s built pretty nice, curvy and toned, but admittedly isn’t as much so as she used to be.
27. How do they relate to their appearance? How do they wear their clothing? Style? Quality?
She gives zero shits about her clothes. It’s whatever, really.
28. Who is your character’s mate? How do they relate to him or her? How did they make their choice?
Once DL makes it into the picture again– They hate each other? LMAO. Shit just sort of happened. After lots of bickering and hate.
29. What is your character’s weaknesses? Hubris? Pride? Controlling?
She’s stubborn and prideful.
30. Are they holding on to something in the past? Can he or she forgive?
Forgiveness is not her strong suit. She’s still bitter about the current state of Hyrule and the fact that she no longer has a place in it.
31. Does your character have children? How do they feel about their parental role? About the children? How do the children relate?
Neicoi as a mother scares me deeply.
32. How does your character react to stress situations? Defensively? Aggressively? Evasively?
Aggressively, for certain. She will lash out heavily.
33. Do they drink? Take drugs? What about their health?
Point her to the nearest bar. She’s always drinking these days.
34. Does your character feel self-righteous? Revengeful? Contemptuous?
She shows contempt for every living thing, tbh.
35. Do they always rationalize errors? How do they accept disasters and failures?
Failure isn’t really an option. She’ll see to it that she makes it happen. And nothing is ever her fault.
36. Do they like to suffer? Like to see other people suffering?
YOU WOULD THINK SHE DOES but no she doesn’t like to suffer. She likes to see those suffer whom she thinks deserves it.
37. How is your character’s imagination? Daydreaming a lot? Worried most of the time? Living in memories?
Neicoi would prefer to forget. And she rarely daydreams.
38. Are they basically negative when facing new things? Suspicious? Hostile? Scared? Enthusiastic?
Always negative. Always hostile. She goes into things expecting the worst and isn’t surprised when it happens.
39. What do they like to ridicule? What do they find stupid?
Everything and everyone?? If she finds anything to pick at she will. And if she can’t she’ll call you names anyways.
40. How is their sense of humor? Do they have one?
What humor–
41. Is your character aware of who they are? Strengths? Weaknesses? Idiosyncrasies? Capable of self-irony?
She thinks the best of herself. She thinks she’s the strongest, the smartest, the best looking. Her ego is huge. She thinks she has no weaknesses, which is often her downfall.
42. What does your character want most? What do they need really badly, compulsively? What are they willing to do, to sacrifice, to obtain?
She just wants to have a purpose again. She needs that. She doesn’t really have anything to sacrifice, so she’ll go all in. Unless her mother came into the picture, then that might put a halt in things.
43. Does your character have any secrets? If so, are they holding them back?
No secrets.
44. How badly do they want to obtain their life objectives? How do they pursue them?
She sees no way to get what she wants, so she does nothing.
45. Is your character pragmatic? Think first? Responsible? All action? A visionary? Passionate? Quixotic?
All action. She never thinks first, so she ends up in trouble a lot. It didn’t used to be that way. Tactical decisions were her strong suit.
46. Is your character tall? Short? What about size? Weight? Posture? How do they feel about their physical body?
Average height and weight. She’s pretty proud of her body.
47. Do they want to project an image of a younger, older, more important person? Does they want to be visible or invisible?
Currently she wants to be invisible. Just get by. Survive. Leave her alone. But when she does interact, she wants people to be scared of her.
48. How are your character’s gestures? Vigorous? Weak? Controlled? Compulsive? Energetic? Sluggish?
Depends. Sluggish and delayed usually, since she’s often shitfaced. But when she’s sober she’s very controlled.
49. What about voice? Pitch? Strength? Tempo and rhythm of speech? Pronunciation? Accent?
I’ve been trying to find a voice actress for years I’m so pissed– She has a very deep tone of voice. She speaks harshly.
50. What are the prevailing facial expressions? Sour? Cheerful? Dominating?
Resting bitch face.

WATCH OUT!! BITCOIN BREAKING OUT!! BANKS ARE CONTROLLING YOUR CASH!! WE NEED BITCOIN!!
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
What’s up, guys? And welcome back to another video. So in today’s video, we’re going to be talking about the exact reasons why the world needs Bitcoin and it needs Bitcoin right now. In today’s video, of course, we’re going to be taking a look at the price action of bitcoin. And this a very nice pump that we had recently. We’re also going to be taking a look at why bitcoin is needed so much over in Egypt to actually actually limiting cash withdrawals, which is just ridiculous. Bitcoin solves this and we’re going to be jumping into how and why. We are also going to be taking a look at Mark Kaisa saying gold is toilet paper for the rich and bitcoin is for the poor. Then going to go on and jump into taking look at a 633 million dollar transaction worth of bitcoin for just 26 cent, which is absolutely crazy. Try moving this amount of gold for the cost of bitcoin. It’s just not going to happen. So all that good stuff coming up in today’s video. Definitely. Stick around and enjoy. So guys, if you haven’t already. Make sure to smash those thumbs up if we can hit 500 likes. That’ll be great. We’ve been so close to in the past few videos. Not only that but if you can subscribe and take that notification, Bell should get notified when I post my next videos. And as always, guys, if you haven’t already left your comments, I know you most likely have dropped your comments down below in the comments section to be entered to win that Tresa storage device or the equivalent in Bitcoin. So get your comments down there right now. So if we take a look at the bitcoin price on the four-hour chart, we can see we are actually in somewhat of a rising wedge scenario. Now, usually with a rising wedge scenario, the price would actually break to the downside. So we would come up here. Test, test, test. And then it would break usually to the downside. Now, of course, we know this is bitcoin and we know that that does not always follow. If we take a look at recent price action, we can see the bitcoin actually had a really nice pump from the sixty-two sixty-three hundred dollar level and we pumped up to pretty much the bottom level, the bottom of the twenty nineteen. If we go over to the one day chart and take a look at twenty nineteen, we can see that bitcoin pretty much pumped up to the bottom of twenty nineteen which is around about six thousand six hundred give or take. Now the current price we are is really, really interesting. We have a couple of ways that we could go with the bitcoin price. And I did say before we are in this rising wedge, this could potentially break to the downside. That’s what they usually do. However, this is bitcoin and it doesn’t always play out like that. We do have this level of support here at a between 60, 200 to sixty-four hundred dollars, which could come into play if we did decide to go downwards. I really would like to see us testing these recent highs here of sixty-eight hundred and then potentially testing that seven seven K range seven points one seven-point two K range and breaking above. Even if we break above that seven K range, we would still technically be in this channel. So I would like to see a break out of this channel, something like this, a break out of this channel. If I do want to continue being bullish on bitcoin. And of course when I see this, guys, this is only in the short term we’re looking at the four-hour chart. If we go onto the day cha or the weekly chart and zoom right out, of course, I’m still very, very bullish on Bitcoin. And you guys all know that this is just the recent time’s gold charts. We do take a look at that 20 days moving average in the blue. We can see that once again. We are pretty much I wouldn’t say we bounce from it, but we went below it and we immediately bounced on this rising wedge up to the price we are at now. And we actually saw some reasonably nice gains. We saw gains of around about 7 to 8 percent, give or take, over the past few hours, which is really, really nice. Also, if you are part of the trade calls actually called this short here from about sixty-five hundred down to around roundabout sixty-two hundred. So that was about a 5 percent profit. And if you were trading that leverage you could have made a lot of money. So that was a great trade call. There’ll be a link down below of course. So that’s pretty much the bitcoin price. I mean there’s nothing really much more to say. There are a few more scenarios that we could play out and I will be going over those in future videos. But for this video, I just wanted to cover this wedge and that’s pretty much it. So, guys, let’s take a look at the crazy news article for today. And this image here with the pyramids and Bitcoin in the background is rather nice, actually. So we can see here the Egyptian central bank limits, cash withdrawals, bitcoin fixes this. The Egyptian central bank has instructed banks across the country to apply temporary daily withdrawal limits on deposits. This latest move means meant to control inflation in the country and prevent citizens from hoarding cash during the pandemic. The daily limit for withdrawals is about 10000 Egyptian pounds, which is around about 600 US dollars. And of course, $3000 for companies only businesses that need to withdraw money to pay their employees will be exempt from this withdrawal. The restrictions are coming after a massive wave of withdrawals from the bank across banking banks across the country. Sorry. Central Bank Governor Taric stated on Sunday that as much as 30 billion Egyptian pounds or 1.9 one billion dollars were taken out of banks in the last three weeks. This is absolutely crazy. 1.9 billion dollars were taken out of banks in the last three weeks. If you don’t know how banks work, if you go ahead and deposit $10, they don’t just hold onto that $10 in your account. And if you want it back, you go to the bank and you get that $10 back. That is not how banks work. They only keep a small percentage of that on hand and the rest of it they loan out to make money. Of course, it’s a business, but it is absolutely crazy. And Egypt has prosperity for high inflation, which could deepen the crisis further. Of course, guys, we all know the bitcoin fix is this and we all know the saying, not your keys and not your coins. In this case, if someone can restrict your money, it’s not really your money. So let me know down in the comments, guys, right now, after you smash that like button if you agree with this. If someone can restrict your money, it’s not actually your money. I really agree with it. I think it’s a great point. And by letting me know your opinions down below, it will enter you into the trees at storage device giveaway so no one can limit your bitcoin. Of course, we know about no banker can step in to decide how much you can choose to transact. Of course, bitcoin saves that. So this is a really interesting article about Egyptian central banks limiting cash withdrawals. All right, guys. So I’d like to take a second just to say big thank you to the sponsor of this video introduction. Now, the introduction is basically a perpetual swap exchange, which is pretty much like you can trade futures. However, there is no expiry date. So introduction actually has a really nice UI and layout and you can actually move things around like so you can pretty much customize the way you want to trade. Not only that, but they have fairly good volume for a reasonably new and up-and-coming exchange and they make it very, very easy to actually go out there and trade. One of the big main reasons I love into DACs though is simply because of their sub-accounts. So unlike on other exchanges, you can only have one account, and if you want to have a sub-account, you have to make a whole new account on interact. You can actually just simply make a new sub-account. So basically what a sub-account allows you to do is you’re allowed up to 10 sub-accounts and you could potentially trade different positions in different scenarios on each different account. So maybe you want to go long on your main account and short on your some account. This makes it way better to trade on something like introductory as you can cover both potential options as to where the price is going to go. Not only that, but they also have some legal battles as well, which is really, really cool. Basically what bottles are is they’re trading competitions. However, there is a prize pool and literally every single day and weekend they have trading battles. They had a competition in the past where you could win three BTC and is actually not a whole lot of people competing in them. You can see here. So I’m pretty sure most of you guys out there can beat these 13 people. So if you did want to get on board with these trading battles. Check the link down below in the description and you can actually join introduction day and have weekly or daily. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and so on. And throughout the week, trading battles where the prize pool is 0.05 BDC and they have a weekly one where the price is zero points to five BTC. The entry is actually 0.1 BTC. Sorry. So really cool trading battles and they are so simple to join. Let’s say you want to join. Choose the battle. You simply click on it. Click, join. Have zero points zero to five bitcoin in your account which I do and simply click join you then enrolled onto that trading battle for that day and you can simply compete in that trading battle. So once you join the battle, if you actually go up to your accounts, you can see Tuesday tussle is already transferred that the trading Andrew acquirement to the Tuesday total trading so account. So you’re all ready to go when Tuesday hits. Just check the countdown timer in the 13 hours. You can go ahead and trade to potentially win the prize of 0.05 bitcoin. It’s a nice little prize to have and it is a great incentive to actually go out there and improve your trades so they can become more profitable. So that’s been introduced. Guys, I really thank you for watching the segment, the video, and a huge thanks to introduction for sponsoring this video to go onto the next title here. Gold is toilet paper for the rich bitcoin. For the poor. Basically, Kaiser said that the coronavirus pandemic will push a billion as into gold as a safe haven once supplies are bought up and stockpiled. The only alternative to gold left is bitcoin. I predict this is not only the ultimate use case but the ultimate irony that once people realize they can get gold, they’ll start flocking in the masses to bitcoin. Now I. Kind of somewhat agree of that, too, a little bit of an extent, I don’t agree with this title. However, I do agree with a lot of rich people are going to be flocking into gold and hopefully, some of that flow will come into Bitcoin. A lot of people see Bitcoin as digital gold, so that could potentially be true. However, gold has a number of drawbacks over bitcoin in contrast to the currency. It’s costly and risky to move. As I said before, you can literally move over one hundred thousand of bitcoin for only 26 cent fee, which is absolutely crazy to think unlike the financial crisis of 2008. Gold mines are shutting down over the coronavirus, ironically stifling the opportunity to boost the supply. So we all know that bitcoin has a limited supply of 24 million. However, right now gold is having somewhat of a limited supply temporarily because of the mines shutting down and not really being able to physically mine gold. So that’s a really interesting point. And if the gold supply is diminishing, then people may start putting that money into Bitcoin as bitcoin supply is limited. Regardless of a what pandemic, what financial crisis is going on, the bitcoin supply is limited. Remember, billionaires think of gold and silver as the way unemployed. Think about toilet paper. This is a crazy article and actually a really good read. Moving on to the final one now. Basically, I’ll sum it up, over 100000 bitcoin were moved about 633 million dollars for only 26 cents. This is absolutely crazy. And as I said a few seconds ago, it ties back to this article saying how could you move 600, over 600 million dollars worth of gold for 2016? It just wouldn’t happen on any scale. And it basically goes on to say some people would be scared that it could end up on a cryptocurrency exchange and basically dump the market with that amount of bitcoin. However, it was actually a Hong Kong Cassity, basically a large based cryptocurrency custody company. The Zeppo completed the internal transfer with those funds. So that summed up the rumours that there’s not gonna be a bitcoin dump with Bitcoin. So, guys, that’s pretty much it for today’s video. If you did enjoy it, don’t forget to smash those thumbs up and subscribe to the channel with the notification bell ticked for you so you can get notified. On my daily uploads, not only that but take a look at the bitcoin blueprint linked down below in the description. So you guys can save $100 and hopefully learn some more information about making profitable trades on the way. So thanks for this video, guys. I’ll catch you in the next one.

Ryan Hildreth: How To Become SUCCESSFUL When You Have Nothing?
youtube
One of the biggest questions in life one of the biggest questions how to become successful when you have nothing, okay maybe if you’re like me when I first started maybe you have $10,000 in credit card debt maybe you have, a family that doesn’t support your endeavors of Entrepreneurship or business or just doing something that, that you truly believe in if you don’t have money to start off with maybe you have no skill sets no degree, right nothing how does one become successful when they start off, from such a low Point okay this is something that I’ve truly honed in on because just about 4, 4 years ago I was broke College Dropout had $10,000 in credit card debt and absolutely no skills, okay when I found out over those four years from being totally broke and, and just a deadbeat to you know making my first million online was when you spend countless, Hours on a skillset opportunities present itself they let me just give you an a, example of a skill set that I’ve utilized to make tons of money to achieve a level of 6, sAS in my life which is freedom to do whatever I want when I want with whom I want okay, and that skill-set was Market Day online marketing when I discovered this when I discovered, the power of Marketing Online running Facebook ads you know, and selling things online because I noticed that there’s tons of people buying things online, i said how can I create something, how can I create a product or, even better yet sell someone else’s product, and get paid for it all right, and when I developed the skill set of marketing and this is one of the highest, paid skill sets in today’s time, because, number one if you know how to Market online Facebook advertising you can look that up I have videos on that Facebook, Yelp helping businesses get more clients right, selling things online it doesn’t even have to be your own product right that’s when I discovered wow, i can really hone in on the skill set, and maybe on opportunities will present itself okay so what I did was you know I was super scared, and this in maybe you have this, you know fear to its to invest in yourself right so many times we are willing to invest, our time right now hours on hours, maybe three hours watching Netflix, but we’re not willing to invest 30 minutes into learning a new skill set, because what gives more short-term pleasure, obviously Netflix, right I do sometimes too, we’re willing to spend $1,000 on an iPhone but we’re not willing to invest $1,000 into, to a course that may teach us has high-income skill set, Right when I first started out my.
Girlfriend at the time is now my wife, she actually purchased, my first course, you know because I was too afraid to, put it on the credit card she said you know what you know we don’t really have the money for it but I put it on the credit card now, learn a skill set, and that skill-set changed my life, alright that thousand dollars invested into myself, that’s something that can never be taken away when you invest in yourself you invest in a course you invest in mentorship from someone who acts, actually, is living life that you want to live, okay not just some college professor or you know I don’t have anything against College if your, try to become a doctor lawyer engineer or something like that but, If you’re trying to make money, you’re trying to start a business start your own venture, learn from someone who’s actually created a successful business, invest in yourself, and when you learn that high-income skill said what you’ll notice is all these opportunities will start coming let me tell you like, when I started learning about Marketing Online Facebook advertising social media marketing that kind of stuff, i said wow, i can document my Journey on YouTube, right, and, you know I started, documenting my journey here on YouTube getting some subscribers I had 0 subscribers and I went to like a couple thousand in the first, couple months, i said wow I can earn some money on YouTube, then I started helping businesses get more clients, through online marketing, wow getting paid a couple thousand bucks per client, then I realized, i can sell info products I can sell my knowledge there’s lots of people that want to learn this, I could package it up in a structured step-by-step course and make money doing that, made hundreds of thousands of dollars doing that, now, diving deep into affiliate marketing which is, honestly the best source of income in my opinion you don’t need your own product you don’t need, a Salesman you don’t need, you practically don’t need anything you don’t need any startup capital capital essentially and you, you can sell other people’s products as long as you have a high-income skills that now have a business down below there’s a first link in the description, is basically a done for you affiliate template okay business that I’m doing okay, the same template that I’m using and in the past two months are little over two months it’s been about 70, 8 days I’ve been counting I’ve made a little over $25,000 I went from zero to, $25,000 in a little over two months okay that’s more than 10K per month how would that change, change your life probably pretty significantly right that’s exactly why I started this new business because I want to show you that it’s, possible it’s possible to start from zero, when you have a skill set you learn a skill set it’s possible to start from zero, and then start making you don’t increase your income to maybe a 3,000 a month than six., then 12,000 right I’m going to take this business all the way to six figures per month and show you that is truly possible my, students already doing it my students are getting commissions passive income every single month, and it’s all about sticking with one thing and honing in on that skill-set opportunities prison, sent itself when you have the skill sets then you noticed wow I can make money doing this with my skill-set I can make money doing this with my, My skillset right I can help so many people with this skill set and that’s that’s a center.
Because that’s the biggest mistake that I made when I was in college I wasn’t really sure, about you know what am I learning and how can I apply it today to start changing my life, life and providing for my family right so my mom doesn’t have to stress about money providing for my wife, and I wasn’t learning those essential skill sets in college that we’re going to teach me that, you know how to apply it today and start making a drastic difference in my life and that’s why I think, if you’re waiting if you’re waiting for someone to hand you you know a silver platter or if you’re waiting, Waiting for that degree or you’re waiting for that level of Excellence then, you are wasting your time because you can get started today and start changing her life you don’t, not the way I’m giving you permission I’ll give you permission to go after your dreams to go after your purpose, it’s not not wait. Wait for some prep Professor to give you a piece of paper to say here you go now Uke, you can go apply to corporations that will maybe pay you Thirty 250k a year right, take action take control of your life now I’m literally giving you the opportunity with this., free business down below first link in the description okay with that I will be closing it up soon I will be charging more as well, the wit that you will have access to me in a private Mastermind that’s one thing that I didn’t have when I first, Started out I didn’t have someone I can talk to write I didn’t have YouTube mentors I didn’t have like, there was no one out there that I could personally message someone who’s making 7 figures someone who’s, living the dream like there’s no one I can personally message and say Hey you know this is what’s happening in my life like how can I improve, or this is what I’m working on what areas can I improve on right I would love that feedback and now, i have that opportunity okay you have that opportunity do you want to become successful there’s no, waiting time you can start today alright another thing I learned okay is, opportunities present itself so, this car for instance this is a dream car of mine childhood car dream car, mcLaren, i remember my dad, taking me, to this exotic car shop just to look like look at the cars and I remember this McLaren F1, Is like gold and shiny, is beautiful, and I said, i didn’t think, that someday I would have won my.

BLOCK CAR WINDOWS, Privacy Options for Sleeping/Living in a Car | LIVE EASY
– When you sleep in a typical car you are totally exposed, right? I mean, there are windows in every direction And with that can come a variety of concerns that would make the sleep that you seek less than sound
I know that personally as I began prepping for a long stint of living out of my Toyota Prius there This gave me a lot of anxiety I mean, it can result in a police officer knocking on the window with a concern It could mean a sketchy dude knocking on the window asking for money for the bus or something, and worst of all it can mean not feeling comfortable sleeping in your underwear on a hellacious hot Texas night (light gentle music) When you're doing some vehicular dwelling, especially in urban environments, privacy is key
And in this video I'm gonna cover the best solutions for achieving this, both the DIY options and off the shelf, or off the internet Hopefully by the end you'll know which one or two will best meet your needs And you will, of course, find links to all the items I talk about in the description of this video Let's get it started Reflectix
One of the most common solutions you see people using for their windows are these custom cut cardboard panels with Reflectix material attached, and in terms of value per dollar spent, this one is really hard to beat So I give it props there I mean you get all the materials you need for around $20 The material is perfectly opaque for total privacy It's easily set up and taken down, and it's going to help insulate the interior of your vehicle
Getting your windows shade just right so there are not any gaps for people to see in can be a bit of a challenge Also, to go from sleeping mode to normal usage mode or simply to roll your windows down, you have to put these panels up and take them down every time Like, in other words, it's not a set it and forget it solution like some of the others I'll talk about later Third, while the material being totally opaque is great for preventing people from being able to see in, the downside or the other edge of this sword, is that it prevents you from being able to see out You can't wake up seeing the beautiful view that your campsite on wheels permits
You can't see the parking authority who just pulled up behind you intending to write you a ticket, allowing you to jump into the driver's seat and take off really quickly, as I have done You can't see the creep that might be just outside your vehicle, scoping it out, wondering, hmmmm, I wonder if there's any refried beans in there that I can steal Having privacy doesn't necessarily mean giving up this awareness to your surroundings More on that later Lastly, not attracting attention can be one of a vehicle dwellers best weapons against problems
Many folks understandably don't want their neighborhood to become the next hobo hotspot, and they may take actions to make you feel unwelcome Reflectix material on full display blocking the rear area of a vehicle may be sending a message to the local T-ball coach that you're not intending to send I live outside the law, I'm low on funds, and I'm your new neighbor, what's up? Ha ha, where your kids at? Off the shelf products A search for vehicle window privacy options, or window shades on Amazon is gonna bring about no shortage of cheap products that all promise to give you the effect that you're looking for And as a frugal dude I would love for these to be great products, I would love to endorse them
But sadly these options are likely a fast track to disappointment Vehicle windows are not created equal, so digging into the reviews of many seemingly interesting options, you'll see complaints of a product not being tall enough or not being wide enough to cover their whole window, and for your rear window, good luck This is not to say that there is nothing in this realm of cheapy products that's worth a look I mean a relatively new thing that I've seen a lot that seems to have solved the one size fits none problem facing so many others are these mesh window coverings that are kinda like pantyhose for your windows These can be taken off and put on very easily and you can even roll the window down to allow ventilation without sacrificing your privacy
Best of all, this material is almost perfect for keeping bugs out But a potential downside here is that this material sits on the exterior of the window, and I'm not sure how well it's gonna hold up to long-term continuous use It's likely best to put them on and take them off as needed So, not a set it and forget it option either Further, these are only gonna work on the windows of your doors
On the Prius that leaves me with four additional windows if I wanted to have privacy Despite a few caveats, these really are a stellar value I mean, you get two of them for under $15 And like I said, the bug net thing and the ability to roll your window down, having these, like while they're not gonna be the perfect privacy solution that fixes all your needs, I think in conjunction with something else we talk about, they'd be a great addition to anybody's kit Limo tint
How about I just black out all of the rear windows of my vehicle with window tint? Well ask some random dude and they may tell you how any amount of tinting is fine on the rear windows Well, that's one way to learn about the law My preferred method is to seek counsel from our future lord and savior, the Googles Now it doesn't matter if you have a friend who knew a guy who's been driving for 10 years with blackout tint across his entire windshield Here are the facts
Laws on window tinting are set at the state level That means that the permissible percentage of visual light transmission as well as factors like the reflectivity and the color of the film will differ based on where you're located The great thing about limo tint, though, is it gives you a large degree of privacy It doesn't keep you from seeing out during the day and doesn't obstruct rolling down the windows I mean, it's a set it and forget it solution
The downside, though, is that it is quite difficult to see out the window at night But the main issue for me is living with the anxiety of having a target on my back I want zero attention from law enforcement It's not that I'm doing anything illegal or that all cops are dicks, but it's always a roll of the dice Will they realize that you're car camping, consider you a deviant, and then use your window tint to cite you as a way to combat what they see as a harmful trend? Will you accidentally find yourself in a sketchy part of town where the cops are on edge about the dangers that can be lurking behind darkly tinted windows, resulting in a high-stress situation for the both of you
This shit happens And I'd rather just, nope But if you wish to go this route, you can have a vendor apply some window tinting for like $100 to $300 depending on your location and the quality, probably more in the $100 range if you're finding some bro on Craigslist Or you can attempt to put 'em on yourself for around $30 of materials There's plenty of YouTube videos where you can learn about exactly how to do that
As you can probably tell by now, I spend a lot of time trying to find what was the best car privacy options And I wanted to have all the efficiency benefits of limo tinting minus the fear of attracting the attention of law enforcement My solution that I showed off in my original Prius Living Video 2017 was to use blank perforated vinyl When you've seen a picture of a logo printed on the window of a retail space or a vehicle with a graphics wrap, it was likely printed on perforated vinyl This material is basically a vinyl sticker with a pattern of holes punched in it
It's black on the inside and white on the outside, which allows you to see out with ease, but it's very difficult for someone to see in Another benefit it has over tinting is how much easier it is to apply the material yourself The only tool you need is a razor or a box cutter You pull off the sticker backing, stick it on your window, and cut around the edges And if you mess up, hey, simply pull back off and try again
The adhesive is surprisingly forgiving I mean, I tried like four different times on my first window and it's held on for well over two years and shows no signs of coming off anytime soon As far as insulation benefits, since the materia sits on the exterior of the glass of the window, a majority of the UV rays never even enter the vehicle, unlike with Reflectix panels which sit on the inside And when trying to reduce the Greenhouse Effect, this is significant While Reflectix looks trashy and limo tint looks shady, perf vinyl is a material that's associated with businesses
I've been pulled over a couple times, and I've even had my car searched near the El Paso border, and not one of these guys mentioned a single negative word about my use of vinyl over the windows I mean, maybe that's why they searched me? Upsides, excellent privacy in the day, it's set it and forget it, the white color in conjunction with sitting on the exterior of the window help a lot with insulation, and it does not impede rolling down the window I know a lot of people were concerned about the material, you know, getting peeled up or something when you try to roll down the window That doesn't happen There are a couple downsides, it's hard to see out the material when it's wet, and running a light inside at night can be seen from the outside
I mean, there's a limit to how much perf vinyl can do You can buy enough material to do this yourself for under $50, and like I said, it's a lot easier to apply than tending Fabric and magnets Another cool idea I've seen from folks is cutting out fabric into the shape of their windows, sewing rare earth magnets into the edges, and then attaching it either to the metal of the door frame on like the outside or to pieces of metal that they adhered around the window's frame Literally any practical use of magnets gets me excited
This method allows users to quickly and easily out their window coverings up and tear them down as needed And while it's not the best ventilation, you can still roll your windows down Since this is usually done with black fabric, from the outside when the windows are up, anyway, it just looks like they're tinted The downsides to this are not being able to see your surroundings And based on how you set yours up you may even need to open your door a bit in order to take it down
And that's not ideal for me because what if there's a bear right outside there and you didn't know What if there's a sketchy dude? What if there's a sketchy bear? I ain't trying to deal with no sketchy bears The final option I wanna cover are window shades from a company called Car Shades These metal framed mesh panels are made to perfectly fit and cover 100% of your vehicle's read windows Using the included metal tabs, they quickly pop in and lock into place
And then when you wanna take them out it's just as easy But if you're like me, because you're still able to see out just fine, I would just leave them up pretty much all the time From the outside it simply looks like your windows are tinted The best part, on hot summer days you can even roll your windows down and they stay securely in place This means that you can keep cool, maintain a decent level of privacy, and keep most bugs from entering
I this the greatest bug net in the world? No, it's not as good as the mesh thing that I talked about earlier But if you deem it necessary all it would take is like $10 at a fabric store to do a little DIY modification to make it a finer net When I first read the price for car shades for the Prius it sounded too steep for a frugal bastard like me, but after realizing how versatile these things are, I'd now argue that it's well worth the price if you can swing it When you buy shades from them, they are not too short, not too loose, not mass market junk, they're made to be perfect for your vehicle Another thing that's changed my tune on this, is how the price is about the same as it would cost to have window tinting installed
And in my opinion, the value of this product far exceeds window tinting Okie dokie, at this point I've talked about six options and gave you a run down of their benefits and caveats, and the greatest thing is, though, you don't have to choose just one Get creative The right choice for you might be a cocktail Personally I love the combination of perforated vinyl with the car shades
The perf vinyl was already great, but adding car shades allows me to further boost my privacy when desired, say, when working on my laptop at night, and of course I can also ventilate the interior without getting taken over by bugs Something else you could do is have some sneaky, dark tinted windows hidden underneath your perforated vinyl I actually got a little bit of that myself Don't you tell nobody 'bout that Each of these items I mentioned will be linked in this video's description, and if you're new to this channel and you get goosebumps from words like practicality, convenience, versatility, especially when achieved at a low price tag, then you are my people
Consider subscribing If you found this video to be helpful, give it one of these guys Lastly, what are your thoughts? Do you disagree? Did I miss a good one? Let me know in that comment box I reply to like every comment that I get So good luck on your privacy endeavors, and until next time, take it easy
(liquid glugging) Don't you tell nobody 'bout that
