haarlep/durge is one of those things that broke my brain a bit but i really think they’d very specifically enjoy being the lover of not just a bhaalspawn, but The bhaalspawn. the most to ever do it. someone whose needs are so hyper-specific that no one else could understand or even cater to those needs. haarlep can almost certainly take being seriously injured, but they could also cool their body temp down, shapeshift into something that the dark urge can take their much darker instincts out on in a safe way.

for my red dead verse i've decided rod indeed does have a donkey named stud ! he's a red standard donkey and has a very prominent donkey's cross. stud, however, is quite stubborn and causes rod to go on tirades, such as ..

rey is absolutely audhd, or on the spectrum. she has a lot of the traits that women/girls have when they've grown up masking for their entire lives bc they were overlooked or not diagnosed.

masking. absolutely. around people, rey is always masking, esp. in the resistance when she's introduced to people she doesn't know. her life prior (on jakku) was constant masking until she was in her home and by herself. rey also realizes she doesn't have much of an identity following tros.

sensory issues. this really gets worse when she gains force abilities bc it never turns off ( in prequels era where she always has them it's more of a constant thing that she deals with to the point of breaking down ). doesn't have sensory issues with food bc of how she grew up HUNGRY and will eat anything put in front of her.

HIGH EMPATHY to the point of being emotionally overwhelmed. she can have a deep understanding of other peoples emotions except for her own, which she struggles with and typically doesn't realize how she's feeling until her body is reacting ( meltdown, crying, that feeling in your throat when you feel like you have to cry ... ) she also feels other peoples physical pain as if it were her own.

mimicking or imitating other people in social situations, esp. when she's unsure about what to do.

BURNOUT. she's always exhausted and doesn't realize it until after tros. post order 66 au she's quite literally experiencing burnout and high masking at the same time due to never being able to stop. she's always moving forward and pushing herself.

special interest + info dumping !! esp. mechanics of things, spaceships, droids. she was literally sneaking onto ships on jakku just to read the manuals. also, she loves mechanics and droids because they're easier to understand. they have a manual, it's very black and white and straightforward. she would've been considered gifted in a modern setting but likely would've hit burnout in high school / college.

other misc things : terrible time blindness, random bursts of energy, social cues are lost on her, prefers routine but also makes impulsive decisions but also hates when those impulsive decisions are cancelled, not an organized person but there is an order to her chaos, gender dysphoria.

Okay I love harleep so much and I'm so glad you did this!! I was wondering your thoughts on harleeps sense of self, and any headcanons you might have on what they might have looked like before being gifted to raphael, if there ever was a 'before'

i think having a sense of self when you are 1) a shapeshifter 2) your body is inherently considered dangerous 3) your body is inherently considered a tool is a huge ask. your identity has to come from somewhere else, almost. haarlep's sense of self is detached from the physicality of a body, but they have clearly made themselves at home as haarlep and in the role that they play as raphael's personal incubus. giant house cat, a strange kind of enforcer, a hostess for visitors, raphael's lover. none of this is tied to the presence of a body, and the act of taking a body that is not their own and exploring seems to be something they enjoy in the first place.

i think you can ask haarlep to look like anyone, but if you asked them to look like themselves, they wouldn't understand the question. they are everyone they've ever been. they are the strange, uncanny power fantasy version of raphael. they are your tav, or dark urge, or origin character that plays with them.

i think "before" is hard to pin down, but they probably resided in cania. my headcanon is that they worked their way "up the ranks" to find a place as an incubus in mephistopheles' court, possibly with an angle to becoming mephistopheles' consort (in previous eds of dnd, mephistopheles had a succubus consort). the necessity of working your way up through a system that values your body means they were probably constantly tweaking and changing their appearance. certainly if they spent any time seducing mortals, they would have been a different and beautiful dream visitor for everyone they needed to well ... seduce

(it is funny that the emperor kind of takes a leaf out of the incubus playbook btw)

so over many years, decades, maybe even centuries, there has become no 'before' that they can remember, i think. their face and body is not immutable. i think that if you pointed this out to them or tried to make them find their 'original' face it could distress them, but they're quite happy, most of the time.

BUT. instead of communicating his need for attention + affection, he has a tendency to withdraw, becoming cold + distant until his partner has “worked hard enough” to earn him. ( so … who wants him? ) he’s only fallen in love twice — once if you ask him — + being obsessive + unable-to-let-go-of-anything-ever as he is, he’s never fallen out of it.
