thoughts on the nine eyes of lucien so far at chapter 24 bc ohhh my god. oh my god. ok
seeing what lucien was like before becoming the nonagon ltr makes my heart hurt 😭 he was a normal guy (as normal as u can be as a run orphan) who joked with his friends and cared for them and loved them. like he rlly did love his friends u can see it in the way they interact. and the dynamic and banter between them was soo.....AUGH. it wasnt like lucien was the leader and they all followed him with distant respect, they all Cared for each other, and the tombtakers expressing worry when lucien started getting entranced by the journal....good lord. theyre like the m9 but things just. didn't work out for them and it feels so tragic.
confirmed last name for lucien! lucien tavelle....still got a surname starting with t lol

ok so lucien's past with his family. it's just. Wow. right off the bat we learn he's got a background with performance tying into molly being in a circus, and lucien's tendency to perform constantly and put up a mask. we also find out he's a middle child! he's got a younger sister and an older brother who got Turned Into A Fucking Skin Puppet ???? and lucien's parents forced him to be a lure for the same witch that turned his brother into a skin puppet by getting her more people to turn into skin puppets?? SO much to unpack, we just know lucien has preexisting trauma surrounding soulless and empty husks.
and speaking of lucien's family--aldreda. oh my god aldreda. their reunion hit me like a sack of bricks. it felt like the start of ppl lucien cared abt distancing themselves from him bc of his own choices. it was like he was so caught up in meeting the expectations he set for himself, to protect and provide for aldreda (the performance theme!!), tht he became someone his own sister couldn't recognize. his inability to be honest abt himself and the things he's done only driving a wedge between them further. and it is actually kind of heartbreaking to see how excited lucien is to see aldreda again only to be met without the same enthusiasm and tht she doesn't want him in her life anymore.
brevyn/lucien killed me so fucking bad. the casual intimacy, the silent communication, the way they clicked, the muddled gray area of friendship and smth more, the obvious adoration lucien had for her. ltr every scene brev showed up in, lucien can NOT stop thinking abt how shes so strong/beautiful/charming etc. like can you STOPPP 😭😭 and their final scene is so painful.......when the book is starting to sink its claws into lucien and brev sacrifices herself to get it for him, smth tht will ultimately be his downfall...SCREAM.
the way the book and the effects it has on lucien is described is genuinely kind of disturbing. the more u read, u can practically See the start of luciens spiral and the way his mind starts to splinter. the little details of him not realizing the passage of time, not eating or sleeping because he's so absorbed in it....Wow. and the change in his personality is subtle but still noticeable which i think rlly adds to how unsettling it feels. he's still mischievous and cocky but theres smth Off abt him with his obsession over cognouza and the somnovem.
EDIT: ALSO. I LIKED THE SMALL DETAILS OF HIM BEING A LIL SILLY :) the scene where hes like "hey cree look at this funny hat i found!" and when vess derogna yells at him he's just like >:( and puts the hat on and sits down by the wall LMAO

She was about to leave, about to go set things right, but...
Her eyes closed, her grip on the gemerald tighter than ever.
She had this sorrowful smile on her face, her body trembling.
"I'm a fuckin' idiot, ya'know?

"Fuck you, askin' me this now. Now, of all times." Her voice was shakey, she sniffled, "Stones know I'm gonna go an' make shit worse right now but Iun't got much of a fucking choice, do I?"

"Promised 'ta never let it happen again, even if we did need help. Wasn't gonna let her get hurt, not on my watch, not if I could do somethin' about it.
"An' then it was me, her and Milla. An' then it was me, her, Milla and Sony. With the whole bunch of us in there, an' with me lovin' him, I couldn't really do much with just 'Lac anymore. Not really.
"But I still wanted to spend time. To... selfishly, have things go back to the way they were.

"An' now look at everythin'." She takes a moment to sit, sighing, "All my feelin's an' I might just fuck it all up again.

She hung her head low.

"Go for it. I'm okay with that. Iun't deserve her anyway, either as a friend or anything more. She's too fuckin' good. She's so fuckin' good she don't even know it. She worries more than me, y'know? For all her bravado, she worries way more than me, takes the time to think about everythin'. Think I made 'er think less, sometimes. Bad influence, y'know? With how much I just dive head first she 'prolly picked it up and it's fucked her more often than not and I really wish I could just..."
She trails off.
Stares at her gem.
A vague picture, a silhouette, of the dragon is shown.
She gripped it even tighter.
"I'm stupid as shit for lovin' 'er. I'm stupid as shit for doin' all that I've done.
"But I can't think about that right now.
"Lyli's more important than any of that. Her bein' my friend is one of the most important things in the world to me."
The gemerald started to pulsate brighter.
"I can't fuck that up. I can't. I have to fix this shit. I have to."
It's glow started to envelope the wildcat.
She took notice, for once.
That same somber smile reared it's head again.
"An' once it's fixed.
"It can go back to normal, right?
"She'll come home again. We'll have fun again. It'll be us again.
"That's... that's how it'll be... right?"

hey megan, is it just me or are people playing younger and younger fcs more and more by the day? i feel so uncomfortable seeing fcs that are under 21 being played by people over 21… especially fcs like emily alyn lind, olivia rodrigo and whitney peak whose resources are from when they were all minors and then some from when they were freshly 18. i’m just grossed out by this. wanted to know what you thought about people playing 18-19 year old fcs.
Before my answer, I'm going to preface this with: I am close to being 28 years old. I've been on this website doing tumblr rp (on and off) for over 10 years. I am old and have opinions.
Now brace yourself for a long post.
I understand the base level of appeal. Whitney, Olivia, Emily - they're all beautiful young women who people admire for so many reasons. Emily and Whitney are fantastic actresses and Olivia is a powerhouse right now and she's freshly 18. They have star power, and they are conventionally attractive young women, which is what the rpc has always (and maybe will always) want to play. For people on this platform who are somewhere between 15-25, playing 18-21 year olds is (in my opinion) pretty reasonable. 25 doesn't always feel much older than 21, especially those who turned anything over 20 during the pandemic. It's societal/cultural arrested development.
Personally, again as someone who is 27 going on 28, I don't know if I could comfortably play a character 21 or younger. I have characters who are 21 or younger, but my 19-21 year old characters are dormant and haven't actually been played since I was like 25. Even as a 25 year old writing a 19 year old felt a bit off, but it worked for her characterization and I felt better because the character is ace and I would never have her in situations where she was going to be involved in smut. (She was a serial killer. It's a whole thing.)
Many of us have experienced trauma at young(er) ages. Is that an excuse for people my age to be consistently writing 18 year olds with freshly 18 year old faces? Absolutely not. Is part of the reason people find comfort in doing that because we'd all like to reclaim a bit of the youth we feel we may have lost? Yeah, probably. This isn't the place or platform for it, but people use it that way.
I'm sure many people have said this much better than I have and in far fewer words, but we are better off now than we were in 2015, in 2012, and especially 2011. We don't have rps where it's kids (meaning under 18, which is US-centric of me but I think we can accept under 18 as children as a general rule of thumb) roleplaying other kids using I*n S*merhalder and M*tthew D*ddario for 15 year old boys who can't keep their hormones in check with the N*na D*brevs (who were always written as Latinas) and the other TVD girlies except Kat because y'know... the rpc has always been racist and especially anti-Black.
Anyway, there's tons of reasons people may play younger muses. For some people it's the only way to get folks to respond, for others they're trying to recapture their youth. I am going to venture to say that most of us find it uncomfortable, which is why we've stuck to our RPHs, indies, and 1x1s. I find it a red flag when someone 25+ is writing mostly younger muses because I worry about the maturity we can project onto characters who are 18-21. Hell, television has done enough to show teenagers as adults (Veronica Lodge running 3 businesses at once before graduating high school? Aria Montgomery dating her fucking teacher and being "mature" enough for that? Veronica Mars as a PI investigating and finding the answers to a murder case people twice her age couldn't do? It's always been there.) Hell, I've had moments where I've forgotten the ages of the characters I'm writing against and had to be put in check, and am grateful for it.
TL;DR: Unfortunately, I have to say it: We Live In A Society. Youth is heavily valued and our culture has put many people into arrested development and this is the selected outlet for some. It sucks.

Same as above. Maybe platonically, but they’d have to get closer first.

They’re probably not on good enough terms for her to betray him. But, on the other hand, they’re not really close so she feels no obligation not to, y’know?
She wouldn’t do so just for funsies, but if there was something she wanted in it for her, then maybe.

Tari does nothing to stem the flow of tears as she buries her face in Nef’s hair. She sobs, entire body wracked by the sorrow and anger that welled in her chest.
It should have been me. She thinks as her brother’s gentle fingers reach upwards, shaking as they do so.
“Do not fear for me, Tar’ika.” Nef says, his voice rough with pain. “We are Mando’ade. We will join----” he breaks off with a low hiss of pain, and Tari does her best to rearrange herself to relieve what little pain she can.
“Gedet’ye, ori’vod.” she says, curling her fingers around the edge of his chest piece. “We’re not ready to see you go.”
He sighs, closing his eyes. “Do you remember the lullaby I used to sing to you?”
There’s a soft sniffle of acknowledgement. Nef breaths out a soft sound, before beginning to hum softly.
For a moment, Tari can’t figure out what Nef wants from her. But in the next moment, she understands.
Hush, now, please don’t cry.
I’ve got you, and won’t let you go…
Hush, now, please don’t cry.
I will keep you safe from harm…
The happy shout of “Ori’vod!” is his only warning before he gets the full force of his youngest sister crashing into his chest. He lets out a soft Oof! of surprise and stumbles backwards.
“Ad’ika! What are you doing up so early?”
“Couldn’t sleep.” she replies, peering up at him with large, curious violet eyes. “Brev won’t let me have any more blankets.”
He laughs as she yawns, curling up in his arms, a soft smile settling onto his face. “Well, let’s save that thought for another time. You seem quite a bit sleepy.”
Her nose scrunches up as she sticks out her tongue at him. Though, she hasn’t denied that she is tired.
“Sing to me?” she mumbles quietly.
“Of course, ad’ika.” he says, and begins to sing softly as he makes his way to the common room. He feels nothing but warmth as she falls asleep, safe and sound.
Hush, now, please don’t cry.

Tari sits on quietly, her feet dangling over the edge of the roof. She stares down at the people rushing beneath her, and feels the sorrow and anger well up once again. Force, it’s been so long and yet it still hurts so much.
Softly, she begins to sing. It’s an old song, a lullaby Nef used to sing to her when she couldn’t sleep. For a brief moment, as the song comes to an end, she feels----it almost feels like----
The feeling is gone just as suddenly as it came, and Tari heaves a heavy sigh. Standing, she dusts herself off before heading back inside the building. She really doesn’t like Coruscant, but she supposes it’s alright. She’ll be off planet again soon enough, once she picks up the last bit of information she needs.

heyy tove jansson wasnt bi, yes she married a man at the beginning of her life but did divorce him and also did tell women in her life she was a lesbian and was probably just affected by comphet. she was a lesbian.
Do you have sources for this claim, anon? I do admit I don't know for sure which label she used for herself at the time of her death. If you do, I'd love to be educated about it.
I do know that at least in 1947 she identified as bisexual, as she wrote to her friend Eva Konikoff: "Lasse är den ende som vet om att jag är bisexuell." ~ "Lasse is the only one to know that I'm bisexual." (Lasse is Tove's brother Lars Jansson.)

Also, as a fact, Tove never married Atos Wirtanen. She also used to have relationships with other men, such as Tapio Tapiovaara ("Tapsa"), before Atos. The way she writes about them in her letters comes off as romantic/sexual feelings to me, so I assume she felt those towards them. And as the abovementioned letter is the newest source I know of Tove labeling herself as something, I call her bi.

Swedish music in Swedish recs 1/2
When learning a language I’ve always found it most helful to just surround myself with it. It is super helpful to just get comfortable with the melody of it and listening to languages helps massively with pronunciation. So, I wanted to recommend some awesome songs in Swedish and some artists that mostly make Swedish songs.
Håkan Hellström - Arguably our most famous active musician. He started as a drummer in the Swedish band Broder Daniel before going solo. He holds the attendance record at one of our biggest arenas, a title he stole from Bruce Springsteen, so he is very famous. There is also a film called "Känn ingen sorg" which is based on his lyrics and it is really really good.

Lmao sooooo! My 18th birthday was a... I don’t take the Good Lord’s name in vain very often but God it was wild. I never thought I would say “last night was crazy” but last night was crazy. Much more under the cut. NSFW mentionings.
So I was at an anime/video game convention over the weekend, which ran from the 25th-27th. The con ran over my birthday (the 27th) and I quickly figured out since panels run late into the night, if I went to an 18+ panel past midnight on the Saturday schedule, it’d technically be the 27th and I could get in.
So we made a do of it! My brother and sister and I went to a “dating game” panel run by a midwest-centered burlesque group and I got in with no shit from the security man. We went and sat near the front and basically it was ye olde 3-people-on-one-side-of-a-tarp-answer-questions-from-one-person-on-the-other-side setup. The one person on the other side, though clearly a member of the burlesque, was unknown to the contestants, and they were also most often in costume.
We sit down. Things start. The announcer is in half a kigu and there are already sex jokes everywhere. They ask for their first contests, I raise my hand (the room was packed) and then yell “I just turned 18!” and the announcer’s like “then get your ass up here!” and then proceeds to gush over how cute me + my cosplay are. I’m contestant 2 and the questions start. I know myself well and I like to think I’m witty and by the time we’re nearing the end, I’m the crowd favorite. The whole thing is hilarious and I get chosen as the winner for this round! I come around the other side and the person is in a fucking sexy meowth cosplay lol and we hug and I get ushered backstage.
The prize is a free print of any burlesque member (send nudes lmao). But before I can get to the print table my path is blocked by two burlesque guys, one of whom is already shirtless - junkrat cosplay, no duh - and the other, a team Instinct Spark cosplayer, immediately lifts his shirt and goes “You wanna touch?” and like. Bruh. This guy’s abs are amazing. I mean like “he said Kylo Ren was shredded” amazing. And God help me there’s even a bit of a happy trail. But what’s a girl to do when handed beautiful abs on a silver platter? So I just press my hand to it and like absorb the power and maybe get extremely flustered. Then the junkrat’s like “don’t I get some?” and me, being stunned stupid, just poke this kid’s abs instead of properly appreciating them.
I bump around backstage watching the antics, sifting through large binders of nudes like it’s normal, standing next to a no-face cosplayer in high heels. I choose my picture - an artsy shot, only one tiddy out, able to be passed off as art reference should my mother ever find it. These are the things I think about. Everyone has been super duper nice and I head back to my seat with goods in hand, still reeling a bit from finding out what abs feel like, to chill with the sibs and laugh over all of it. We watch a bunch of the other rounds, the highlights of which include an extremely drunk contestant shaking her thong-clad bum at the crowd, telling everyone about how she’s been deprived by only having vanilla sex, and proceeding to invite up and snog, tongue included, a random woman from the audience; that no-face cosplayer slinkily pulling up the bottom of the skirt to reveal stockings and garters; and previously-mentioned Spark pulling down his pants to get “spanked” with the announcer’s flip-flop only to have her pull them off his butt, effectively mooning the audience. Remember, these are only the highlights.
I slip backstage to get my print signed and take the opportunity (what, at this point, did I have to lose) to be like “can I just...” and full-on splay my hand on junkrat’s tiny ripped abs. Because the poke was wasted and I was doing this right. We laughed and had a couple jokes - he was super chill, really in character, the voice and everything - then I got my print back and returned to my seat. A couple more rounds go by, it’s funny as hell, I feel like all this is extremely surreal and I’ve entered into a much more interesting liminal space.
The panel ends and I come up to the Meowth chick because, just letting you know, I’ve been tossing around the idea of doing burlesque myself and I wonder if she has some tips on getting started. She sits me down all mom-like (seriously this crew was so amazing, considerate, warm, and welcoming omg) and tells me how she started, how she thought was the best way to get into it, and how to apply for this group specifically. She aks me how old I am and I’m like “18″ and she’s all “you’re a baby!!! :)” and I’m like “yeah, legit, I Just turned 18.″ Oh boy. The look on her face. She just starts yelling to the others like “It’s her BIRTHDAY! She’s EIGHTEEN!” and another member’s like “Oh gosh, we’re going to give you a present. Tell Spark to get over here.” And y’all I’m saying I can see the end. The light at the end of the tunnel. I turn to my sister like “I think I’m getting a lap dance...” lmao I’m losing it. I’m straight up questioning what parallel universe I’ve fallen into where I’m hailed as Cute by a large crowd and I’m about to be grinded on by a man who is ridiculously cut and I am Not mentally prepared for whatever might happen. But sure enough I’m shown to backstage, given a lone chair, and sit down in it. By the maker if, after all this, I’m getting a lap dance, then I am not letting my embarrassed bitch ass make things weird.
But they tell me that if anything makes me uncomfortable to just say.
I’m not going to describe the occurrence beyond three things: 1) upon seeing a short video clip after (no, not available for viewing sdklsadghgh) I realized it had been hella noisy the whole time but I’d been so preoccupied I had barely noticed there was Anyone else around 2) where the Fuck are you supposed to look? Eyes? Abs? At least the butt is safe and 3) How is simply bumping noses with someone Hot ???? asks a total virgin.
It ended and I was equal parts glad it was over and like got dammmmmn what the fuck man. I was pretty pink. Spark was totally peppy and cool as a cucumber, like, “Did you like it? I’ve been practicing!!” and I’m like, “Yeah, yeah, it was great!” and he just sort of goes, “Oh, I’m glad, you were very stoic and I wasn’t sure.” Brev. Why I gotta stress about e v e r y t h i n g. That’s called a poker face and it broke exactly Once, at which point I giggled and covered my mouth. But it was the abs. Again. Of course. If you ever need to know my kryptonite, apparently it’s impeccable abs.
But then I talked with the members a bit more, thanked everyone for the shower of special treatment, and we exited the panel room. I was Shook for the whole night, still am rn, and tbh the three things I left thinking were: 1) when you don’t drink you can Remember all the crazy shit that happens, not to mention stay in control of your behavior, I have no reason to Want to drink 2) people get paid to do stuff like stand and make jokes on a stage wearing a kigu, bra, and flip flops part of the time and spend the other part wearing nice costumes and lingerie and dancing, and I would like to be one of them 3) I Gotta get over this whole being jittery thing, me no likey.
But no it was Nuts in more ways than one and I swear this thing is the whole truth and nothing but the truth, despite how wack it sounds. Trust me, it was wack for me too. But it was a fantastic time, biggest deal I’ve ever had made for my birthday, and now I guess I won’t need a bachelorette party.

She sat in her chair, leaning back on it's wooden frame, rocking herself by pushing her foot against the wooden desk in front of her. She turned her head slightly behind herself, staring at her bed, where her fiance currently rests.
"Y'all got no idea how amazing it is to wake up every mornin', next to your future husband.
"We always had extra beds at the tree house. Just in case we ever had a sleepover--like, I remember there bein' a closet in there specifically just for beds, so I ain't really get to do this much when we were all livin' there. Don't mean I didn't do it, but it wasn't an everyday thing, ya'know?
"Plus we had'ta put'em back up everytime we got up in the mornin'. These weren't bedrolls, ya'know--these were fuckin' mattresses. You know how annoyin' it is to pick up a floppy-ass mattress everytime ya wake up? Swear, I was this close to convincin' Lilac to give Sony a fuckin' frame.
"But then he moved out. Sooo..."
She stared at the hedgehog for a little longer, face turning sour. She turned back to the gemerald, sitting her chair up and moving her head real close to it.
Her voice became a whisper.
"If I'mma be real, though, Sooony wasn't the first I've done that with.
"Back when all that Brev stuff first happened, Lilac was uh... not okay. We always had bunkbeds, right? Like that's just always been like that, back at the tree house. Never a reason why either of us would go in each other's beds.
"But uh, a couple times, back then, she'd just... climb right in my bed. While I was there. Always whisperin' to me about how she was sorry, how she'd go right back to her bed tomorrow, how she felt bad about it all.

"I remember just. Holding her. Tellin' her to shut up 'cause none of that really mattered, in the grand scheme. Ain't even really get why she'd feel bad about any of it--hell, I'm the one who should be sorry for lettin' her get messed up like that. Still regret that one to this day.
"There was one time, when it was a super rainy storm. Real bad outside, thunder and lightnin' everywhere. When I tell ya that she was a fuckin' mess that day I really mean it. I didn't even say anything when she came into my bed all blubberin' and stuff. I just held her. Pet her. Kept her close to me.

But apparently she’d decided that she’d had enough of people asking her which way to the nearest Converse outlet, so she ambled into the salon (read: had her hairstylist Riawna Capri pay her a visit) and hit the red carpet with way shorter hair, cut into a lob.
Getting super creative on Instagram, Dobrev wrote, “Short hair. Don’t care New year. New Do(brev). New me .” Well—if we had a dollar for every time someone said, “Short hair, don’t care” when they got a cut, we’d be millionaires—but she does look great.
