LBFAD rewatch observations part 2

1. Man XLH is so brave. From day 1. She is terrified of the soldiers searching for the escaped plant spirit in Haishi but she not only saves the spirit, she also takes the time to look for the destiny book. Like imagine being that scared but doing the right thing anyway. When DFQC said she is the bravest in the 3 realms 🤌

2. "My younger brother is still as stupid and incompetent as ever". OUCH 🤣 Pre emotion DFQC is a savage. Poor Xunfeng. 😅

3. The first time he goes to rescue her because of her being in danger is also the first time he is trying to figure out how to release his soldiers. I'm just thinking about the manyyyy times he will be pulled away from doing this task because of her. "🎶Every decision made because of you🎶" ❤

4. That scene of the moon un-eclipsing to reveal DFQC > im dead. Him saying "How dare a dying person ask my name" in the most casual but also deadly way with his little head tilt > I am resurrected to die again. Dead dead dead. He is so powerful here.

5. "Is it an earthquake? Why did everyone run away scared?" My girl XLH did you not see the big handsome devil uneclipse the moon and stare daggers at everyone? She so clueless I love her 😆

6. I too immediately think any boy showing me any concern must be in love with me. And that there must be some far fetched reason for it.

7. Oh oh OH I missed this the first time but she sees the Xilan seal on him. She knows some curse/spell is on him. But she never connects the dots 😅😅 I had always thought she had no clue of it.

15. My mans experiences fear, takes a big inhale of it and says "ahhh this delicacy, I haven't tasted in a while" *smirk* 💀😶 Sir.

16. Imagine the annoyance (maybe even panic) when he realized he HAS to count ALL the darn flowers 😅

So uh.. I got like a bunch of new followers recently, so first off.. Hi everyone! 🙂 (Where did you all come from??) And second, I feel like it's been a minute since I've annoyed anyone with random useless voice acting trivia, and I need to warn remind people that this blog is also a lot of me rambling about German VAs in particular, because I’m a German obsessed with voice acting and I just can't help it.. It's a strange hobby. 😂

I’ve kinda mentioned it before on here (and I will probably never get tired of talking about it lol), but I just need you all to understand just how funny it is that Solas legitimately sounds like he could be in his twenties in German and how that makes him so much more suspicious in a way?? 😂 (To my ears, at least.) Like, judging solely by their voices, Solas genuinely sounds like he could be the youngest out of all the companions in DAI. Yes, he partially sounds even younger than Cole. (And fun fact, I actually looked it up, and his VA is in fact the youngest out of the entire main cast. lmao)

Unnecessarily long rambling incoming... 😶

See, his German VA is known for voicing a lot of teenage boys. But that's what's so hilarious about it. Solas has this super young voice, but then he suddenly talks like this wise old grandpa with this incredible eloquence, who has apparently seen a ton of war and tragedy?? 😂

And then you just sit here on your first playthrough like.. how on earth does this work, like something doesn't add up here. Either he has to be some kind of super brain “prodigy” or he's *definitely* hiding something.. because regardless of just how long you've been "visiting the Fade", there's NO way you know about all this stuff and have THAT much experience, when you.. just came of age. lol

In general, the way he speaks he sounds like a 100 year old with the voice of a 20 - 30 year old man in a 40ish year old body. And then you just sit here talking to him, like "What even ARE you???" 😂

This is especially hilarious to me when he tries to teach Sera about how to lead a rebellion, calls HER a child and gives her all this advice, when in German, he sounds just as old as Sera if not even slightly younger than her.

I remember this one banter with Blackwall about being a war veteran on my first playthrough when he was like "You should've seen me when I was younger" and I stopped in my tracks "What are you talking about?? Aren’t you, like, 25??"

Another little thing I found funny was how they made him say "Weidmannsheil" ("Hunt well") to the Inquisitor at the Winter Palace, which is like a traditional wish for good luck among hunters around here, but also something I have NEVER heard someone under the age of 80 actually say. lmao

Idk, I just feel like it gives his character this additional interesting but kinda bizarre note, where he comes off as so young and brash, which stands in complete contrast to his extensive knowlegde and wisdom and the way he talks.

But that's also what I actually kinda love about it and in a way, it's what I picture *actual* young Solas must've been like... because, being literally called Pride, the very counterpart of Wisdom in DA, it fits so well with what seems to be his internal conflict or maybe even his own past, assuming the Wisdom spirit turning into Pride theory is true.

Like, in a way, I feel like he wants to be the person he claims to be in Inquisition, to be just himself, the man who is nothing but a humble wanderer who shares and seeks wisdom, because that’s who he truly is at his core, what is left if you strip away all the weight of history, duty and rebel leader strategist. But it’s his pride that prevents him from being that person. And given his description of himself in his “youth”, I feel like the Solas of ancient times had that pride and impulsiveness turned up to 11. 😂

Which is also why I just can't get over how much BioWare's choice for this particular VA for Solas fascinates me (and I just want to believe that there must’ve been some good reason behind this choice, given how they knew how big of a role he was going to play.. And from what I’ve heard, BioWare is very considered when it comes to casting their VAs, especially for the companions, even in different languages).

Because with all due respect and credit to the German VA of Solas, Ozan Ünal, I love his work, but with him they chose a voice actor who's mostly typecast to voice the young, nerdy, soft, kinda bubbly protagonist guy with a heart of gold. Like, just to imagine him going any kind of antagonistic route is so funny to me, because that is really the total opposite of what he usually does.

Some casting director at BioWare really sat there and listened to *this* voice and was like "Yep, that's our next antagonist". 😂 And I'm gonna be super honest here, guys.. But regardless of the other 3000 reasons why I don't think that Solas will be the ultimate threat in DA4, this is actually part of the reason why I just can't picture him as a "true villain". Or rather, I'm just super curious to see if his VA could pull that off. 😂

Like, with Gareth David-Lloyd, I feel like he can do literally anything, but Ozan Ünal sounds just way too innocent to be really taken seriously as a threat, you know. 😂

I’m avoiding making notes for my journal (bc I’ll probably do all my journaling on the plane ride back home just to distract me bc I know I won’t be sleeping a wink) SO, I’m gonna list things that have surprised me so far while I’m England as a Southern US gal.

I’ve already told some of this to @honestly-shite (resident Englander) but I thought I’d make a post to help wind me down to bed.

OK! Here we go.

1) Wind turbines - There’s so many! I’ve never expected there to be any in England, mainly bc nobody has mentioned it. And that makes a lot of sense for England’s climate! So, way to go England. (Note: Yes, America does have wind turbines but not very many in Southern states im afraid. This was my first time seeing one)

2) The grass is greener - For the most part that is. Obviously cities and some moors are excluded. Idk if it’s the time of year? But it does rain a lot in England so…maybe that’s why.

3) Cars - better quality cars in England. Do people pride on their cars here? There’s been quite the many luxury cars on our excursions. That and there aren’t as many beat up cars on the highways (apologies, “carriageways”, which I am never letting y’all live down, just say highways, so pretentious).

3.5) Manual - So many cars are manual here. Y’all are already driving on the wrong side of the road. How much more dangerous do y’all have to be? Please, more automatic. I’m begging. For my nerves’ sake.

4) THE NORTH - why do your signs for Northern England say THE NORTH? Rude.

5) Cheers - Did not expect the constant use of “cheers” instead of “thank you.” I hear both, of course, but I think I hear cheers more often. I like it. You go you funky lil English. I would say it too, but it doesn’t sound right

6) Food - Ok yes, I will agree England makes some… choices when it come to English food. HOWEVER, the quality of food is significantly better. Yeah, I’m sure if I went to a run down spot, I’d get some bad food. But I’m talkin about fast food places, grab and go stuff. Most of the stuff is local and not as mass produced and stored in industrial freezers like it is in America. I could be wrong, but I get the sense this is the case. Especially when I eat at fast food places. Man. So good. Less guilt. Amazing.

7) Sprite - What did y’all do to my poor Sprite? Jail!!!! Immediately!!!!!!! Taste some American Sprite and then get back to me. Unbelievable.

8) McDonald’s- A lot more McDonald’s than I thought. And, it isn’t any better than it is in America. But! It is the same. So there’s a comforting thought for English McDonald’s lovers

9) Gardens - I knew gardening culture was bigger here but like…I didn’t expect it to be THAT big. So many gardening commercials lol. But, America has lawn/grass culture so I can’t say much on that.

10) THE NORTH Part 2 - Ok but Northerners are sweethearts 🥺 So friendly. I felt really safe in the towns I went to. Even York! It was nice for a change. Also, the mountains up in the North remind me of home 🥹 Except we have more trees. And more mountains. Oh, and the Lakes District 💕💕💕💕💕 Beautiful

11) Toilets - Damn. Y’all weren’t kidding around when you said y’all have better toilets. Color me impressed. I might miss them as much as I’ll miss cheese and onion toasties.

12) The Queen - Ok, I know y’all don’t talk about the Queen ALL the time. But I thought I’d hear a lot more about her because of the big jubilee coming up. Y’all really aren’t bothered aren’t you? (The Revolutionist in me is cackling hehehe) Today was the only day I’ve heard someone refer to her, and it was in liturgical church. I’ve heard more about Boris Johnson than I have in my life though. Brought to my attention how little America talks about British politics 😶😶😶…sorry.

13) Ukraine - Which reminds me, I’ve seen Ukrainian flags everywhere. Your overwhelming support for Ukraine in such a dark time in their history is very admirable, and it’s something I wish America would take initiative as well.

14) Daylight - Man. It gets dark LATE. Don’t know whether to be happy or mad at that.

15) Stores closing - I get why shops and restaurants close early. You’ve got lives and family. But, you just can’t do that to a confused hungry college student who thinks things are open because it’s still daylight 😭😭😭 Please, let me eat your food! Don’t make me go to pubs during prime drinking hours as a foreigner! I want your business! I swear!

16) Rest stops - Phenomenal. 10/10. They’re like if American rest stops were on steroids and actually had what you wanted.

17) KRISPY KREME!!!!! - Y’all have Krispy Kreme?!?!?!?! I love that shit bro!!!! I thought it was more of a local thing. Yet, I can barely even get any where I live. You lucky dogs you. Dang.

Alright, that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. There’s probably gonna be a part 2.

Disclaimer: that is just my opinion

1. Laito. He is an absolute winner for me. The reason is his elaborated character; also he is charming and mysterious at the same time. I can feel his pain in this crooked voice when he's crying and feel the pain through his fake smile. He is sensitive and vulnerable but hates showing it, hates conflicts and showing the strength. But man he is so lonely... Kinda depressed man but it doesn't matter. Love him😭

2. Reiji. God he is so underrated🙄. Like... Why? Such a good character with his own background, which explains lots of the main issues. His behavior makes a lot of sense, and despite trauma he's able to analyze his mistakes/change his mind/admit his faults. I like this maturity of him.

3. Kanato. I remember that I used to dislike him, but goddammit I was such a fool 👺. He is bad tempted/ tantrumed but I enjoy these bright splashes of his furious emotions. He makes me shiver!

4. Ayato. You know he is a character which annoys but gives DELIRIOUS ENERGY. I like his mischievous nature, he is so lively; he definitely acts like school boy, favorite bastard. 😏

5. Carla. He looks mysterious and... sublimely? Although he is a character from 3rd game, it doesn't look like he's appeared here only for plot. 6. Azusa. He used to be the most unattractive character in DL universe for me, but that was my stupid lookism (I thought he was a strange zombie guy and his slow speech was disturbing me.) But now I realize how cunning and manipulative he is, that is astonishing. And honestly I like the idea of his masochistic side/ he is being a victim. 😈

7. Subaru. I don't like tsunderes. They are cute sometimes, but only sometimes. Subaru's emotional instability mixed with his enormous strength scares. It's not like Kanato's tantrumed instability, Subaru seems to be more addiquate, but at the same time he can break a wall or something. Kanato is manipulative one ( so as a paradox he controls situation) while Subaru seems to be absolutely blind when he is angry (he is more addiquate but can't control anger.) So he isn't less violent than Kanato or someone and I refuse to deal with him 😶, but I can understand why people love him. He has a kind heart.

8. Yuma. I like his straightforwardness and dominance towards EVERYONE yoy 🙊. I don't like he's manner of talking with Yui (like calling her a pig, what? Have you seen yourself? You are a boar 🐗 then !) But I like his passionate attitude about his garden and his opinion of Shuu. Idk why but I think he is a yaoi character only 🙈. I ship Shuu×Yuma. That's all.

9. Ruki. Oh man... He is strange. And it seems to be that he can't learn from his mistakes, which is strange, again 🙃. His attitude about that situation from the past (when he's father became bankrupt) hasn't changed (cause of his arrogance? Jeez) at all and that's tricky. Why? He can't analyze his failures? Or he even doesn't think there are HIS failures? I don't understand this man. But at least he seems to be a good leader..

10. Shin. Another bastard 😏. But... he likes being a dog. I don't like dogs. I don't even like animals lmao. Honestly, Shin is charming at some point, but it's not worth it, that's not enough for me. And he looks like as if he was only a comedian character (you know that villains duo: the buffoon and competen one.)

11. Kou. What a pain... Another complicated personality, but omg he is terrible... Cynical, hypocritical, violent but, he has a dream. A very abstract dream and an empty one, he wouldn't fulfill his crooked soul with that bLuE SkY. That is not enooouuuggghhh. I hate him, he is awful and I can't sympathize him, but at the same time I understand how cruel was his fate. 😔

12. Shuu. Shoe. Ahem. The worst one. People who like him. Why? He's just pretty? THAT IS BECAUSE HE IS BLONDE? I like blonde anime guys, but omg it looks like Rejet wash away his sins cause he is the most popular. I mean his routes are boring as himself is ъуъ... I do not deny he's having an apathy/depression but this man literally does nothing. Nothing bad or good. NOTHING. How am I supposed to like him if he is just laying and dreaming. I don't find him sexy either idk.

13. Kino. Why does he exist? The way he has "born" already screams that Rejet don't have any ideas for characters. And again. Why am I supposed to love this man ? He has appeared in 4th game, like IN THE FREAKING END of the story. No, that's weak reason. Cmon Kino looks like Reiji and Azusa have a child but he acts like Ayato and Shin have a child!
