I don’t like Baron Abrams (I suspect I won’t like any of the barons, except Victor), but hearing that Chaz has “never been one of [his] favorites” does get him a couple points in my book.

Thoughts on LA by Night S02E04 &05

I’m just going to squeal right here at the start for the ending to episode 5.  FIONA!!!!  What is her game?  What sacrifice is she talking about for Chloe?  Most likely option is probably betraying Jasper in some way, but other options include becoming Chloe’s ghoul or even becoming a kindred herself, which ... I would be thrilled about.  I doubt they’ll go down that path, but ...

Also, let’s take a moment to appreciate how dangerous Chloe is.  It really makes you wonder about her relationship with Jasper.  She’s basically having a mental breakdown at the police station, but when she walks into her apartment and the lights don’t work and a strange woman is waiting for her, her response is “You might as well do what you’re going to do.”  Like, damn!

Anyway ....

A lot happened in this episode:

Well, that was a terrible thing to happen to Nelli.  I wonder how that would have played out if Cynthia could have been there last time?  Regardless, we see some real weakness on her side.

On the other hand, we get a pretty clear sense of how competent Nelli is and how close her relationship with Abrams really is.

And I did not think we would see Therese yet!  The Baron is surprisingly similar to Fiona in terms of her ruthlessness, but, unlike Fiona, she is very volatile (as evidenced by her sharp outbursts).  Makes sense, we’re seeing a Malkavian under control--her mind is still ready to go off, but it’s focused in a different way.

And Chaz!!!!  And the return of his beautiful scenery-chewing!  Happy he’s the herald, since it means we’re likely to see more of him.

And the return of Chaz being abusive to Nelli!  Not happy about it for the character, but happy about it in terms of the story it brings out.  Seeing Annabelle lose it and then her having to watch Nelli agree with Chaz under clear duress (just after having suffered being staked for three nights) was extremely distressing.

Oh Greg.  Greg, Greg, Greg.  You are so arrogant for the complete lack of control you have.  Except for that end scene, wonder what he chose?

Oh, and Jasper as Sheriff is hilarious (and a good political move ... for the Caramilla).

Okay, so Eva is sweet on Jasper too.  If Chloe wasn’t lurking in the background, I’d assume this was going to go smoothly ....

That said, this is the first time we’ve seen Eva lose her evenness: when Kyoto is joking about Jasper and Eva says that’s not something to joke about.  Very very interesting.

Also very cool to see more of the blood magic and how it works.  I wonder how they keep from running out of blood?

Questions I Want to See Answered:

Well?  What is Fiona’s game?  Traitor for the Caramilla or playing her own personal game?  My money’s on the latter.

Did Greg seal the deal with Nelli (I assume that’s what the vial was for) or did he rejoin the Bureau?

Is Therese a traitor?  Super unclear.

What is Jeanette like?

What are the other Baron’s going to say to Victor?  (Is Nines the only one we haven’t met?)

Will Chaz get his comeupance?

And what the hell happened with El?  I’m done waiting!  Tell me!  (I assume Annabelle chose to cut off all contact--there’s been no spotify playlist updates this season--but who knows?
