3 for bakugo or todoroki
I decided to do Bakugo for this, & then I got this ask after I closed the prompts for this event so I decided to go ahead and do it because it’s actually one of only two Halloween-related ones and I was planning to make this Werewolf!Bakugo anyway lol. This is a fun little AU that just kinda swaps quirks for supernatural creatures, loosely based off of a bunch of campy halloween stuff like Halloweentown and Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Also, the werewolves have destined mates like those dumb Wattpad novels, because sometimes tropes are fun and cute. Also this is THREE TIMES AS LONG AS I MEANT TO MAKE ALL OF THESE but ive also gotten like five??? individual asks for it 😭😭😭so y’all better not let it flop.
3: kissing so desperately that their whole body curves into the other person’s
Though you’ve known Bakugo pretty much your whole life, there’s a lot about werewolves that you don’t know.
If he were a different person, he probably wouldn’t be telling you at 5:47 on his 21st birthday that he’s apparently supposed to figure out who his soulmate is going to be tonight. If he weren’t so closed off, even to his best friend of over a decade and a half, then perhaps you wouldn’t be having this conversation, and perhaps it wouldn’t feel quite like pulling teeth.
“You have a soulmate?” is really all you can say, because most of your mental capacity is going towards keeping the sob in the back of your throat from being audible.
“Yeah,” he grunts. He’s not even looking at you, because he’s holding his phone in one hand and he’s scrolling through it, and though the two of you are sitting on opposite sides of the couch he has your feet in his lap, free arm wrapped all the way around them like he doesn’t want you to leave. “It’s… I dunno. Kinda cool, I guess.”
“All of you have soulmates?”
“Well, yeah. You witches don’t?”
You wrinkle your nose, trying your hardest to ignore the burning at the backs of your eyes. “No. We don’t.”
Out of the corner of your eye you see him purse his lips, as if troubled by the revelation. “Huh. How d’you know who’s the one, then?”
“We just. Figure it out? I guess. Is this why you’ve never dated anyone?”
“Yeah. Not really interested in anyone but my destined.”
He says it so easily, but you know him well enough to understand. He likes the idea of a soulmate; he’s looking forward to figuring out who they are tonight. Who would have guessed that he was a romantic?
It’s awful. It makes your chest burn. You’d only come to terms with your crush on the guy two months ago. Now he’s gonna be taken from you by some random person he’s never met?
No, you suppose, he’s always belonged to them. That’s how it works, right?
“D’you know who it’ll be?”
“Hah? No, dumbass, if I did that would defeat the purpose.” Bakugo pauses, glancing over at you with just his eyes, then darting them away just as fast. It’s probably just a trick of the light, but you could swear he blushes a little as he mumbles, “I know who I want it to be, though.”
Your eyes widen and you lean up, pulling your legs back (ignoring the way his hands tense before letting them go as if he wants to hold on) so that you can kneel on them right next to him. “Who?”
“Not happening.”
“Bakugo,” you whine, drawing out the last syllable of his name.
“I’m not telling you, brat.”
You lean forward, prodding at his cheek. “Is it Mina?”
“No.”
“Jirou?”
“I’m not telling you.”
“Kirishima?”
Bakugo growls out your name, a warning, but you don’t pull away, getting even closer until you’re practically draped over him.
“Todoroki?”
He grabs you, whipping towards you as his arms fly up to wrap around your waist and yank you off him, tossing you back to your side of the couch as you shriek in laughter. He’d never hurt you, you know, and roughhousing like this is hardly new in your friendship; plus, well, you’d be lying if you said you hadn’t been hoping to feel his big, warm hands like this. Despite all his surprises tonight, he’s still all too predictable, and you’d seen this coming a mile away.
What you don’t see coming is him pausing, braced with one arm against the couch all too close to you, holding his torso over you with his head right above yours. And he stares, those crimson eyes unreadable with an expression you’ve never seen before, locked entirely on you.
You can feel his chest rising and falling steadily against yours, and your own eyes are drawn to where his adam’s apple bobs as he swallows thickly. You’re frozen, unable to move though you’d hardly want to anyway, and it hits you like a brick what he’s really been saying the whole night.
You open your mouth to speak, but then the hazy tension is shattered by the shrill sound of his phone.
Bakugo lunges away, pulls back with inhuman werewolf speed, grabbing his phone as he leaps to his feet. “‘S my mom, sundown’s soon, I have to go.”
“Wait, Bakugo—”
“See ya tomorrow, yeah?” He doesn’t wait for an answer, already half out the door.
“Katsuki,” you try, desperate, and it makes him freeze.
The door is open, his knuckles are pale with how tight he’s gripping the knob, but as much as you’ve tried it’s not enough. He’s gone without another word.
You don’t get to sleep that night.
It’s dumb; he’ll lecture you in the morning as he tells you all about his perfect amazing werewolf destined—that was what he’d called it, right? You prefer soulmate. Mate is a wolf thing anyway—who he’s spending all night with, running around in the forest howling at the moon and making out or whatever.
You stay out in the den, curled up on the couch with a blanket draped around you, ice cream in your lap, and an old movie playing that you’re not really listening to because you’ve been too wrapped up in your own head.
For an instant, you’d been so sure. A mere moment of absolute certainty that he was just as in love with you as you are him, that your oblivious pining for years was actually reciprocated. In the hours since he’d pinned you to the couch, you’d convinced yourself otherwise.
Imagine your surprise when there’s a frantic knocking at your door.
It startles you, making you jump about ten feet up in the air, and you freeze on the couch with wide eyes and a gaping mouth staring directly at the solid wood that seems to be shaking in its hinges. You’re halfway to casting a protection charm when a familiar gruff voice shouts your name from outside.
“I know you’re awake, I can hear you in there! Open the damn door!”
You glance at the time to find that it’s just under fifteen minutes to midnight. Awfully soon for him to be done, but you rise from your spot on the couch with the blanket still wrapped around your shoulders and move to let Bakugo in.
“Coming,” you say, not bothering to be loud because you know he can hear even the shifting of your clothes beneath the blanket.
He looks downright feral when you open the door, panting slightly, hair mussed up, eyes wild. But when he sees you, they light up, happy and excited like a damn puppy.
“Are you drunk?”
“Uh… kinda?”
“...Magical bullshit?”
He nods, a rough toss of his head to affirm. “Ancient rituals. Tipsy’s more accurate, if anything. Figured out who my destined is.”
“And you came to me? Shouldn’t you be with your soulmate, then?”
Bakugo blinks, clearly stunned, barking out a burst of laughter before shaking his head. “You’re somethin’ dumbass.”
You go to respond, more than a little insulted because he’s been acting so fucking weird all day and he has the nerve to say you’re being dumb, but any retort is flung from your mind as he steps forward and puts his hands on your arms.
Leaning in until your noses are practically touching, he speaks. “It’s you. It’s always been you.”
“H—huh?” you stutter out, heart stopping and mind reeling with his words.
“I wanted it to be you. And it’s you.” His hands slide down your arms to meet yours. “You’re my destined.”
There’s so much more to say, so much to ask him, everything ranging from but I’m a witch, how is that possible to so we could have been fucking dating this whole time but he doesn’t let you speak, clearly too overjoyed and inebriated, and you’re not entirely opposed when he yanks you in with exactly the level of roughness you’d imagine from him and kisses you.
And finally, finally, after a decade and a half of wanting to (longer than you even knew what kissing was), you can melt into him.
You believe him then, not that you particularly doubted. It’s like his lips are the missing piece to a puzzle, one you’ve been looking for your whole life. He holds you up with ease, werewolf strength coming in handy, as one hand laces with your own and the other darts to the small of your back. He’d be holding you closer, but you’re literally as close as you could be, body curving against him as his taller form hunches over you.
He kisses you far more sweetly than you’d have expected; no teeth or tongue but still all passion, heavy palm and fingers splayed across your back as the other hand pulls you and grounds you. It’s heated and it makes you forget that you’re both standing in the middle of the open front door at midnight.
You’re both reluctant to break away, you can tell because you both linger a little, bodies frozen as the kiss is followed by one, two, three more just as feverish but decreasing in length. Then the two of you pull away for real (not by much, no, he’s holding you far too intensely for you to get far) and you stumble backwards pulling him by his shirt into your home. He gets the hint, following and shutting the door behind you but not letting either of you make it very far beyond.
“All right,” you say finally, breathless both from the kiss and from giddy laughter bubbling up within you, “all right, you’re my soulmate.”
Bakugo kisses you again.

31. What makes you upset? “Oh, anything! But mainly seeing people down on themselves.”

36. A misconception people often think of you? “I know a lot of people think that I’m maybe like, how do I put it nicely? A home-wrecker…or, promiscuous, I guess? I’m not. I’ve had maybe 3 boyfriends in my whole life and I’m 20.”

47. Current relationship status? “Taken…Happily.”
48. When was your first kiss? “It was for a random television series and I was like 14. My first real kiss though was only a year and a bit ago.”
49. Do you remember your first date? If so, with who was it? What did you do? “I don’t remember it. Oops.”
50. Have you ever experienced heart-break? “Yes. Not necessarily through a break-up.”
51. Have you ever been in love? (If yes, skip to question 53) “Yes.”
52. If no, how so?
53. How do you know when you’re in love? “For me, everything becomes about that person. Even songs that I listened to long before I knew someone, or films I watched way before I knew they existed, I manage to tie everything back to one specific person. And, I’m definitely not a subtle person either - I think if I’m in love with someone, they’ll know before I do if they’re observant.”
54. What would be your ideal date? “I always feel like it’s more a question of who; I’d rather do something really simple like staying at home, cooking and watching a movie with someone I’m really comfortable with and like…Instead of going somewhere really extravagant with somebody I know who’ll make me uncomfortable.”
55. What is your perspective on marriage? “It’s not the ultimate declaration of love. There are plenty of married people who aren’t in love anymore…And if you look into the roots of it, it’s kind of…messed up? I don’t know. It’s nice but not necessary.”
56. (only for non-virgins) Are you a sub, dom or switch? “…I feel like I can switch it up. It depends on whatever the person I’m with prefers?”
57. What do you think of relationships? “I’m conflicted because there is so much more to life, but I’m not anti-relationship, obviously. I feel like they’d be better and more enjoyable if there wasn’t such a pressure on people to have been in a relationship before a certain age. If you’ve not found the one at 55, why is that so bad?”
58. What do you think of one-night stands? “I’ve had them. They’re not for everyone, though.”
59. Are you still a virgin? “No.”
60. Most attractive trait in a different person? “Patience. Especially if I’m talking about specifically attractive to me - I tend to jump to conclusions and get sad or mad or annoyed really quickly. So, people who bear with me, that’s attractive.”
61. What matters most to you when it comes to a relationship? “Genuine chemistry. As soon as that goes, nothing else really matters. Like, if there’s no chemistry for one person but loyalty is there - it almost feels like a job.”
62. Are you comfortable with PDA? Or would you be comfortable with PDA? “Yeah.”
63. Are you more of a type to be asked out or the type to ask the other out? “A bit of both. I think I’m probably bold enough to ask people out but it is nice to be asked.”
64. How do you express love to the other? “Pay attention to what they say, make sure they’re happy, tell them everything…Kiss them, cling on to them…Become painfully annoying until they can’t stand it. It’s a cycle.”
65. Who is your celebrity crush? “Danny. My boyfriend. I don’t even care that it’s the cliche answer, haha.” GETTING DEEP QUESTIONS 66. Do you regret anything? “…Yes.”
67. Is there something you woule like to re-do? So, start all over again? “Yes.”
68. What is something you would never share with anyone? “For sure…I’m uncomfortable!”
69. When was the last time you cried? Why did you cry? “…I’m trying to think, maybe a week ago or so? I just felt down and missed somebody.”
70. Most memorable event that happened in your time in St Judes? This could be anything: “That’s really tricky! I’m not sure, to be honest. I wasn’t here when all of the crazy stuff went down, like the cruise ship? I’m really unsure.”
71. One thing you wish you could do all over? “My childhood…but with my 20 year old mind.”
72. Someone you miss? “I’d rather not.”
73. Something you wish you could forget? “I don’t like these questions.”
74. Who has the biggest impact on you? “Probably my family - not necessarily in a good way.”
75. What is your perspective on love? Is it beautiful? Does it scare you? “It’s beautiful and being loved is the best feeling in the world, I’d be lying if I said I don’t crave it.”
76. What has hurt you in the past that you don’t want others to go through? “Losing somebody that is like, your other half. Or actually, losing somebody you really love without much explanation at all. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.”
77. What is something you have gained, something you have lost and something you let go of during the past year? “I’ve gained…more self-esteem, I’ve lost a lot of time I’m not going to get back - I think and I’ve let go of some trust issues, I think.”
78. Have you ever lost a friend? do you wish you would still be friends? “I have. I lost a friend because she dated my ex after claiming they were just friends - I don’t because it hurt and all she had to do was be honest.”
79. Do you have any triggers? What is the history behind these triggers and are they related to any disorders or mental illnesses? “I don’t think that’s appropriate.”
80. If you could meet your 16 year old self, what would tell them? “That things do pass..They don’t necessarily get better or easier, but they pass and you learn to deal with things in a more productive way. I’d also hug her - tight.” RANDOM QUESTION ROUND 81. Summer or Winter? “Summer’s weather but winter’s overall vibe and celebrations.”
82. Cats or dogs? “Dogs, sorry.”
83. Beach or mountains? “The beach.”
84. Phone calls or texting? “Facetime. I’m that friend.”
85. Have you ever skipped class? “Yes.”

I Trapped The Devil (2019)
Genre: Horror/Drama
Who’s In It: Scott Poythress, AJ Bowen, Susan Burke
Who Directed It: Josh Lobo
Plot:  A man descends into paranoia after trapping what he believes to be the devil in his basement, but things take a dark turn when his family unexpectedly arrive for Christmas.
Running Time: 82 Minutes
IMDB Score: 4.8
Metascore: 47
Why I Watched It: Honestly saw one good review for it, and it was on sale on iTunes, sometimes I’m that easy.
How I Watched It: iTunes got it for .99 cents but then forgot to watch in it the 30 days so rented it again for .99, I know please be kind to me.
Random Thoughts: I make jokes about my film selection but I actively go out and try to find smaller genre films, honestly it’s what I like to do.  I’m at a lost how many film fans just watch the big Hollywood Films, I watch most of them too but I love variety and I love smaller films in not only scale but also scope.  You see a film like this and you know someone had to really care about it and wanted to tell this story, also don’t ever thing a small budget means a bad film.
What I Liked: This film is carried by the acting, it’s a three hander and really it’s more driven by character than plot.  This is an actor movie, all three get something to do Burke maybe gets the short end but she good here as well.
This is a film where you can see they didn’t have a lot of time or money, they had one location and three actors, I give everyone credit for getting it made and for the most part it’s not a bad film it’s flawed but watchable.
It’s hard to call this a horror film maybe more of a psychological drama, really it’s an s he or isn’t in film, his the lead crazy or does he have the Devil or at least a Demon trapped. On that level it works, the film doesn’t do a lot of scary stuff they build tension and there were two things I would call creepy but mostly this is a character based film with lots of talk.
I do think some of it worked and it did make you thing, they do a good job of kind of making you uneasy, whatever is going on is weird and you get a sense that this is not going to end well.
What I Didn’t Like: It’s boring, I could say slow to be kinder but it’s both  Even at 82 minutes it’s long, once we get the set up the film just goes round and round and the odd thing here is that the mystery of is he crazy or not comes pretty clear pretty soon.  You kind of just wait for something to happen and nothing does till the very end.  Also of course a person does a very dumb thing to give us that ending.
On one level the film does do what it wants but I think this is a short film at best you hit your beats and then reveal here at 82 minutes it hits it’s one note and goes on and then repeats.  It had one idea and that’s it, if it could have opened up more and explored what was trapped it might have worked better.  Also it’s a very darkly light and very sober film.
My biggest pet peeve of course they don’t answer any questions, a lot is just left and we have to figure it out but of course we can’t cause we weren’t given enough information.  They make it vague on purpose and I get that but it’s too vague and it becomes frustrating.
Final Thoughts: I admire the idea and the acting but it just falls flat for me.
Rating: 4/10

After giving itsome thought and going by Daichi’s hints, he decided on something simple andelegant for their first date. Of course, this was more of an excuse to hang outthan anything because they had been together plenty of times before. After theydiscovered they were going to the same university they made plans to meet inTokyo, to hang out, talk about volleyball, their teammates, and ended up closingdown this random café that then became their favorite hangout spot and wherethey would usually go to meet up.
Eventually, theyfound themselves growing more and more interested in each other but it was thefirst year of university which meant getting accustomed to a new place, bothfor Koushi, coming from somewhere outside of Tokyo and to Kuroo, since he movedout of his parents’ house and into a joint apartment with best bro, Bokuto. Notonly that, but the work load changed dramatically and they were busy gettingfamiliar with a new school and making new acquaintances and maybe even a friendor two who could slip you their notes when you got sick and who would havelunch with you in between classes.
Because of this, they were too occupied to act on their interest and when they wanted to let offsome steam they didn’t do it with each other because… there was somethingthere, and neither of them wanted to ruin it by jumping each other’s bones toosoon.
They were now intheir second year and when Koushi came back to the city and they met up again, there was an unspoken tension between them. Until Kuroo broke it by saying whatthey were both thinking.
“I missed you, man.” He had said, with one of his goofy smiles sprawled on his face.
Sugawara managedto raise an inquisitive eyebrow, maybe to try and play it off but he couldn’t.Instead he laughed, shook his head and admitted out loud. “Yeah, I missed youtoo.”
After thisfaithful episode, Kuroo went into a freak out that lasted about a week anddrove Bokuto up the wall with questions.
…Should I ask him out? He said he missed me, what doyou think that means? Do you think he likes me? I mean I like him. Like hangingout with him, talking to him, studying around him, he’s quiet when he focusesbut then he’s also such a sarcastic douche, he makes such great jokes, Bo,honestly, and have you seen his hair in the sun? it’s like… it shines, okay, like diamonds. But honestly what if I ask him out and he says no, what if I ruinthis thing we got going on?…
He tried it withKenma but he just shut him down with a quick: “Ask him out already. Have balls.”To which Kuroo replied, in a chocked and broken voice. “Language.”
After all of this,he met up with Koushi. They usually studied together once or twice a week, itwas a nice routine. Beforehand Kuroo had psyched himself up, drank a redbull, high-fivedthe guy who sold him his coffee and arrived at Koushi’s with a Caramel Macchiatofor the setter and a Double Expresso for him. They sat down on the mat in theliving room and as Kuroo took out his laptop, books, notebook and writingmaterial, placing it on the table between them, Koushi sipped his warm drink, closing his eyes in enjoyment ever so slightly. And Kuroo looked at that, andthought to himself that maybe this wasn’t as terrifying after all and somehowthe words just came out, flowing, just as if he was asking “How was your day?”But he wasn’t. He was asking: “Will you go out with me?”
Koushi smiled intothe lid of his drink and his shiny eyes looked up. He got up from his seatwhere he was cross-legged and walked around to the other side of the table. Kuroonoticed he was wearing a big pink jumper with a yellow kitten on it, it wascute, it suited him, he thought. Koushi crouched next to him and kissed him onthe cheek. “I thought you’d never ask.” He said, with a honeyed lull to hisvoice and quite the charming smile.
He went back tohis place, seated the same way and went back to what he was doing. A few beatsafter, he added, in a challenging and teasing tone. “Hope you take me somewherenice.”
And Kuroo wentinto a mild panic while thinking Game on.
Now, back to thedate. The plan was simple:
Step 1: Pick him up at his place. Take him out to a nicerestaurant. Chinese. That’s his favorite. But close to his house so you canwalk there and hold hands and talk a bit on your way there.
Step 2: Don’t be a coward and actually hold his hand. You better not fail me, Future Kuroo, wegot a lot riding on this.
Step 3: Amusement park. You can eat candy there, cottoncandy, popcorn, lollipop, all kinds of unhealthy things. Win him something, impress him with your gaming skills. Show him you’re a clear winner andtherefore deserve his affections.
Step 4: Walk him home.
Kuroo looked downat the paper with his messy handwriting on it and took a deep breath.
“Okay, alright, sounds like a good plan.”
He picked out hisoutfit for the next day and went to bed, trying his best to rest even thoughhis excitement made his blood boil.
The doorbell ranga few minutes before eleven and Koushi came to answer the door. He was met witha dashing smile and the same bed head hair of always.
“What a nice view,uh” He commented, taking in Kuroo’s towering figure, the way his hands werehidden in his pockets, relaxed demeanor.
“It sure is.”Kuroo fired back, making sure his eyes took in all of Koushi, intent on gettinghis point across.
“Come in. I’m justfinishing up with my hair and then we can go.”
“Your hair? What’reyou gonna do with it?” Kuroo asked, following Koushi down the hallway to thebathroom.
“I thought aboutputting it up.” The other answered, while grabbing a hair tie, gathering hissilver hair and looking in the mirror. “What do you think? Like this?” Heinquired, looking up at Kuroo, who in return hummed and chewed on his bottomlip.
“Can I…” Kuroostarted, making a forward gesture with his hand.
“Sure.” Koushiaffirmed, letting his hair come down again. It already hit his shoulders and itmade subtle waves.
Kuroo placedhimself behind Koushi and then reached for a brush. Carefully, he brushedKoushi’s hair back while the other watched closely. Then he gathered it up in aneat ponytail, reaching out for the tie in Koushi’s hand. He tied it up withoutany hair moving out of place and Kou was impressed.
“And now for thefinishing touch…” Kuroo announced before dislodging two bits of hair from thesides, and making these little waves come down the side of Koushi’s face. Helooked stunning.
They looked ateach other in the mirror before Koushi turned around to face Kuroo.
“You know, this isa really good start to a date.”
Kuroo smiled downat him. “Is it?”
Koushi hummed inconfirmation. “Come down here.”
Kuroo croucheduntil his eyes were level with Kou’s.
“Not like that.”Koushi laughed and shook his head. He sighed. “But it’s okay.” And then placeda soft kiss on Kuroo’s lips. They both smiled, their cheeks tinted with analmost unnoticeable pink.
“Come on.” Koushigrabbed Kuroo’s hand, turned off the bathroom lights and led them to the door. Before heading out he grabbed a colorful denim jacket, full of patches. Most ofthem were from Oikawa, therefore they were mostly space themed. There were afew cat themed ones in there, as well.
On their way tothe restaurant Koushi was busy explaining Kuroo where the patches came from andtime flowed quickly.
They got to therestaurant and it was a cozy little thing on a secondary street.
“Oh, you didn’ttell me this is where we were coming!”
“Was I supposedto?”
“No, but nicechoice. Kudos to you.”
“So you’ve beenhere before.”
“Yes, it’s closeto home and they serve my favorite food…” Koushi trailed off and then looked atKuroo as they were about to sit down. “Which is why you brought me here.”
Kuroo nodded. “Ididn’t know you knew it but yeah, I wanted you to have a good time.”
They were sittingnext to each other and Koushi, for the second time that day, leaned in closeand placed a kiss on Kuroo, this time on the corner of his mouth, discretly.
“Can’t believe youthought you needed Daichi’s help. You’re doing great all on your own. Andreally upping the scale for me.”
“Oh yeah? Nextdate we focus on me then?” Kuroo asked playfully.
“If you’re lucky.”
Then they orderedtheir food and talked about the usual things. Tooru made me watch this movie, this and Bokuto scored someone’s number on the train, that. The usual.
When they left therestaurant their bellies were full and they rejoiced in the cozy spring sun andbreeze. They made their way to the metro down the street because the amusementpark was on the other side of town. And as they walked, unthinkingly, Koushilaced his fingers with Kuroo’s and Kuroo just looked down at their hands, notexactly surprised, but most definitely happy about whatever this was that was beginningto bloom.
The rest of theafternoon was a smooth ride. Koushi stuffed his mouth with sweet after sweet, even though he had just has lunch an hour ago while Kuroo watched amusedly andtook bites out of the candy. They went on a few rides, the fast ones but notthe upside-down ones. They played games, Koushi won them a shark and a tinymouse. Kuroo played some kind of hammer game, the measure your strength kind ofgame, and won them a stuffed Thor toy. Long haired Thor, though.
“He kinda lookslike you.”
“If I was blondand had a beard, you mean.”
“Yes, but I likeyour silver hair. You’re like a walking cloud.”
“You’re like awalking mess.”
“Well, you’re notwrong.”
“Wanna be my mess?”
“Koushi, so forward.” Kuroo joked, making ahigh-pitched voice and hugging his stuffed Thor tightly, presumably trying to imitatea school girl. Koushi laughed, thank god for that, because what. a . smile. Kuroo mused.
After a beat. “Areyou serious though?”
They were leavingthe amusement park and heading home. There was still daylight but the sun was agoner, and Koushi had to admit, so was he.
“Well, you are theone guy I want to spend my time with, you know, the time I have left betweenclasses and my other friends and those 5 hours of sleep.”
“You are the oneguy for me too.”
Koushi stopped andmoved to face Kuroo. Kuroo was blocking the sun, casting a shadow down on Kou.The background was nothing but sunlight and Kuroo looked beautiful that way.
“I am?”
Kuroo nodded. “Youare.”
“I guess we bettermake it official then.”
“We better.” Kuroowhispered, as he placed a big hand on Koushi’s cheek and leaned in to kiss him, glad he had the guts to ask him out after all.

Answer all of them
Under a cut! This is a long one!!
1: Do they drink coffee?
I don’t think so; though I do think he enjoys the occasional Starbucks drink.
2: Are they left or right handed?
Right handed!
3: How do they do their hair? Facial hair? (If they have it)
His hair is super long! I’ve seen some pictures of him where he has it tied back, but not too many more recently. It looks messy but it is really really cute! I want to brush it or just run my fingers through it a lot. He also does grow some of his facial hair out! I like it a lot.
4: What’s their favorite animal?
Well, going off his fursona, I’m going to go with a wolf.
5: What is their relationship status?
Taken by me!
6: What is their favorite band/singer?
A weird thing about our relationship is that we don’t really talk about or share music too much, but we know we have similar music tastes! I also know he likes Death Grips.
7: Are they more a cat or dog person?
Dog person!
8: What does their laugh sound like?
Ohh, gosh! I love his laugh so much! He also has several of them, ranging from: “This is a horrible picture and I’m showing it to you now,” “This is a horrible picture and I’m NOT going to show it to you,” and my personal favorite is his really really loud laugh he does when some meme he sees gets really weird/bad or we keep adding onto it ourselves.
9: Do they know multiple languages? Which ones?
He used to take French, so he knows a little bit, but he isn’t fluent.
10: How old are they? How old are you?
He is just a year younger than me. 13 months, to be exact!
11: One word that describes them.
I can’t possibly choose one word, but honestly my favorite one to describe him as is “warm” because I see it in his eyes in pictures he sends and when we video chat. He makes me feel like I’m at home with him, even if we’re so far apart.
12: Do they have any pets?
A German shepherd mix named Winston! I hear him a lot in the background of our calls.
13: What is their favorite TV show?
He really liked Bojack Horseman! He binged it around the time we got together. We also like watching shows together that we never finish… Though, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was one we did finish, and we both loved it! He also really likes Dragonball Z, and Bleach!
14: What is their favorite movie?
Oh, that’s a hard one because he REALLY likes movies and film theory and stuff, but I’m pretty sure it’s a Marvel movie. He also told me one time that he likes Studio Ghibli movies a lot, but he talks about Marvel movies a lot more.
15: What car do they drive?
He does not drive.
16: What ethnicity and/or nationality are they?
He’s Australian!
17: Where did you meet them?
I met him online, after he joined my guild in World of Warcraft. I had been a member for a year already, and I believe I had just gotten back from an extended break from Horde side. He was very new to the game, and also very shy at first, but he joined up with us because he wanted to try role play, as well as raiding. He was at a large, server-wide event that I went to as well, but it took him a while to get into the Discord voice chat. He’s very shy! Once he got in though, we hit it off really well! Soon we had begun to spend nearly every waking moment together. Also, we haven’t stopped doing that. It’s been about a year since we started that.
18: What was your first meeting like?
Would you believe me if I said it was almost an argument? I’d been healing a long time, and he loved to tank, so we each thought our own roles were the most important in a raid/dungeon environment. “A tank keeps the mobs off the healer, so they aren’t overwhelmed;” “A tank won’t last long without a healer.” Well, now we know that both of the roles are much weaker on their own, and they are only really at their peak when they have the other with them. Still, that has not stopped him from saving the raid in huge manners as he’s the last tank alive and the boss is at 1% HP. Of course, I’ve saved the raid too, just in much more subtle manners!
19:  What is their zodiac sign? Are your signs compatible?
I’m a Virgo and he’s a Libra. So, yes, I do believe that they are!
20: What month is their birthday?
October! That was already my favorite month of the year before I even met him!
21: What is your favorite outfit on them?
Whatever he’s most comfortable in!
22: Are they good texters?
He’s very good! He’s a quick typer, and messages me “Good morning!” if I don’t get to it first every day! He types with the correct capitalization, too, which I find very cute for some reason, but that may be just because it’s him.
23: Your favorite feature about their appearance.
Oh, hmmm… I love the way he looks, and it’s hard to choose just one thing. His eyes, maybe? I did already go over that, as well as his hair… You know what, I’m going to keep talking about his eyes. They’re two beautiful shades of blue, and every time he sends me a picture of him I can see how much he loves me in them, and sometimes I have to make an effort to not be overwhelmed by it. In a good way!
24: Your favorite thing about their personality.
He’s a big sweetheart, and a huge goofball! He knows how to make me laugh and feel better whenever I’m not in a good mood.
25: Do they make you laugh?
Every single day!
26: Do you make them laugh?
Yes, I do! We have very similar senses of humor. Sometimes it’s awful. I love it all the time, though!
27: Are they good huggers/ kissers?
Even though we’re long distance, yes. He is, and I know he is.
28: What is your favorite “flaw” that they have?
He’s a degenerate. It’s really funny though. I love how chaotic he is.
29: Are they nice to strangers?
He is VERY shy, but yes, he is! He’s extremely sweet and kind.
30: What is the funniest thing they have ever said?
Honestly, he’s just the funniest person ever and makes me crack up every single day. Sometimes he just randomly says whatever comes to his mind. Today I really liked his joke about that redesign for the new Incredibles movie. Something about weed. We’ve been making a lot of weed jokes today.
31: Saddest?
Also from today: he didn’t know what a buffalo was. He thought they were different from bison. I was eating buffalo jerky from 5 years ago and he thought it was a brand of jerky. He also thought they were extinct.
32: Weirdest?
Literally any vore joke he has ever made.
33: Cutest?
Gosh, just trying to pick one thing is so difficult... But when he tells me he loves me and how he can’t wait to see me? When he tells me about dreams he has with me in them? It makes my heart melt.
34: Ever dreamt about them? What happened in the dream?
Recently I posted about a dream I had about him and I just kissing each other. Nothing super exciting sounding, but gosh, I want to experience it so bad.
35: How tall are they? How tall are you?
I am... 5′4″... He is... 6′5″...
36: Do they have a booty?
I do not know. He has only sent me selfies of just his face or completely front facing. I can only assume. Doesn’t matter though!
37: What are their hobbies?
Video games. He really likes World of Warcraft (of course!), Fallout: New Vegas, Grand Theft Auto V, Elder Scrolls Online, Overwatch, Quake Champions, and Pokemon!
38: What are their talents?
He’s has amazing reflexes, honestly. He uses them for gaming, and because of it, he’s amazingly good at just about any game he plays.
39: What would your dream date be with them?
A physical one, where we are next to each other.
40: Does anyone know about your crush/love?
I make it a point to make sure everyone knows.
41: What do you guys have in common?
Pretty much everything, really. From sense of humor, taste in music, and favorite video games for the most part. We also share the same sexual orientation, and we have yet to disagree on politics.
42: Do they go to the gym?
No, but he exercises just about every day! If he doesn’t do a whole bunch of jumping jacks his legs start to get sore.
43: Do they go by their given name?
Yes and no. Since we’re in a World of Warcraft guild, we both go by screen names, so no one there calls him his real name but me. Same thing with just about everything online, though. Other than that though, he does.
44: What is their favorite color?
He really loves orange! Orange and white is one of his favorite color schemes. It makes me think of orange creamsicles!
45: How far apart do you live from them?
About 572 miles-- roughly an eight and a half hour drive.
46: What song reminds you of them?
Boats and Birds by Gregory and the Hawk
47: Do they listen to a lot of music?
I think so, but I think he listens to more random YouTube videos than anything.
48: What do they smell like?
He gave me his jacket for Valentine’s Day, and when I first got it I just held it up to my face and smelled it for a good while because it was the first time I got to experience what he smelled like. I cant really describe his scent, because I’m not good with words in that way, but I just know that it’s my favorite scent in the whole world.
49: If they were in a book (protagonist or antagonist or supporting character, up to you) how would the writer describe them?
If it were up to me, I would describe him as accurately as possible. Still, I only really know his personality the best, so that’s what I would describe the most. I think he would be a protagonist, as well. He’s my protagonist, anyway.
50: How often do you see them?
We talk every day-- I’m talking to him right now! But as for actually seeing him, I look at every picture he has sent me of himself every night. There’s about... 22 of them that I have, including a video, but there’s one I missed of him in Australia in a “had to do it to em” pose. I’m still sad I lost that one.
51: The last text/ message they sent you?
It was a Sorlag skin from Quake Champions. As for a text message from Discord, it was a “Call me!”
52: The last thing they said to you in person?
:(
53: What is the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you in front of them?
I once said “Heal, boy!” to him while we were leveling in WoW together because his health was low and he wasn’t paying attention, but it came off as “Heel, boy!” like he was a dog... The more embarrassing bit though about it was that one or two of our friends were there as well.
54: Do they have any tattoos or piercings?
To my knowledge, no, but I seriously doubt it.
55: What color are their eyes?
Blue gray!
56: What is their clothing style?
Comfortable: jeans and graphic T-shirts! That I plan to steal...
57: What is one thing that makes them really special?
Literally everything about him. He’s the most special person to me, and I love him for every single thing.
58: Will you tell your crush your feelings?
Alright, gonna be honest, I'm a bi wlw, and I was content to never say a damn thing about any feeling I ever felt, so I’m thankful every day that he did, because I was very ready to take my feelings to the grave and pine after him forever.
59: How long did you know them before you started falling for them?
Probably like a day or something. It didn’t take long to start liking him-- even when we were alone in the server voice chats that day I felt comfortable around him.
60: Was there a defining moment when you knew you liked them?
Sort of! I don’t remember the exact details, but I do remember messaging one of my best friends about it immediately. I was pretty vague about it to her. Something like: “Yeah, I think I’m in love with someone in the voice chat...” And she knew immediately who. I guess I was obvious, though.

holy fuck this is long as hell.  i got bored and burned out from this so i didn’t answer all 119 questions.  but i answered 85 of them.  so here: a long look at alaric.  also fuck the formatting i had to to thru and number and space all of these myself and then tumblr fucked it so....deal with it.
1. What is their full name? Alaric Baasch Floros
2. Zodiac sign Aquarius
3. In detail describe how they look  Six feet (183 cm), well-muscled, brown skin, long green hair often worn in a braid or ponytail, undercut and short sideburns.  The hair on his upper lip grows faster than the other parts of his beard.  His right eye is green and his left is gold.  Also his nails are always painted dark colors, most often black.
4. How old are they?
30
5. What clothes to they like to wear?
Just whatever he finds laying around.  He has no fashion sense.  As long as it’s clothes, he’ll put it on.  Sometimes it’s not even clothes.  He’ll fuckin wear a curtain as a cloak or something.  Honestly, he’d walk around in the nude if he could.  He doesn’t give a fuck about clothes.  He doesn’t even tie his shoes.
6. What’s their favorite piece of clothing?
His sheer tank top.  It used to be really sparkly, but over the years it’s kinda lost it’s sparkle.  It’s also getting baggier.  But he don’t give a shit.  He’ll wear that thing until it’s just threads.  And even then, he’ll figure out some way to still wear it.
7. Any piercings?
Many!  His lobes are gauged, and on his right ear, the cartilage is pierced 3 times, and his left it’s 4 times.  He also has a septum piercing and his right eyebrow is pierced twice horizontally so it looks like 4 studs.
8. Do they have any other jewelry they wear?
He wears a long chain necklace and an emerald necklace on a leather strap, as well as many rings he just sort of throws on.  Sometimes he wears a gold bangle, too.
9. Any tattoos?
No, but he does want some.  He just doesn’t know what to get, so he hasn’t gotten any yet
10. What do they smell like?
Allspice, ginger, cinnamon, or lavender.  Depends on the day or what he’s been doing.
11. What are their four trinkets?
Blackberry tart, well-worn deck of playing cards, small sewing kit, and a small bag of dried lavender leaves.
12. GOVERNMENT MANDATED FURSONA
Cat?  Some kind of big cat.
13. What kind of magic are they good at?
Illusion
14. What kind of magic are they bad at?
Water :/
15. Of the four, six or seven magical elements which are they most connected to? Four: fire, air water earth. six: fire, air, water, wood, earth, metal. Seven:fire, air, water, wood, earth, metal, aither.
Most connected to air and earth
17. Do they have a familiar? If they do. What type of animal is it? What is it’s name? Is it still around after they lost their memory? (Ignoring my suspicion Faust is actually the apprentice’s familiar and not Asra’s) Alaric has a cat named Mithra.  He’s a dark blue-grey Abyssinian with green eyes.  His favorite spot was perched on Alaric’s shoulders. Asra keeps him safe but away from Alaric for fear of triggering memories too soon.  But he’s made sure Mithra is cared for until he thinks Alaric is ready.  He tried once and it didn’t end well. Hopefully he’ll be ready soon. 18. Have they ever cursed someone? Yeah, he’s petty af. 19. How do they handle those headaches/migraines? Not well.  He’s never really been one to make a big deal about pain, so he tends to downplay it, but inside he’s miserable.  And a bit anxious because Asra makes a big deal out of them and stuff.  But he keeps a little bag of lavender on him which helps ease the pain a bit. 20. What tarot card do they connect the most with? The Hermit (according to a quiz, I really don’t know.)  Maybe the Chariot? I’m bad at this stuff. 21. Where were they born? Somewhere not Vesuvia? I don’t know anything more than that... 22. What is their favorite color? Light blue and light/pale yellow 23. What is their least favorite color? Brown 24. Are they right handed, left handed or ambidextrous? Right handed 25. What were they like as a child? Charismatic, which hasn’t changed.  He could talk his way out of anything.  And he needed to use that skill a lot since he’d get into trouble a lot.  He was also very inquisitive and often bothered people with constant questions.  Once he was able to read, it was impossible to find him without a book.  Eventually, he sort of isolated himself and drifted apart from most everyone in his life before coming to Vesuvia. 26. What were their parents like? His parents were kind-hearted and a little eccentric, one a magician and one a baker (tho still a magician, but not as powerful). 27. Do they have any siblings? How would they react if a prized possession got stolen? Panic.  A lot. 78. What’s the first thing they would buy if they won the lottery? Asra would probably suggest he finally buy new clothes.  But Alaric would probably buy...idk.  A new building for his shop?  Or maybe just like better supplies/furnishings/etc for his shop?  He honestly doesn’t worry about wealth that much; he’s happy with what he has, for the most part. 79. Unless he’s seen her be an awful person, he’ll return it. 83. Someone just stole food from them what do they do? Unless it’s pumpkin bread or beef rolls, he’ll just let them have it tbh.  Otherwise, you bet your buttons he’ll demand its return. 84. They meet a man at a crossroads. The man says they can have everything they’ve ever wanted. What happens next? Right off the bat, he’ll be dismissive.  He doesn’t want for anything, really.  After a second or two of thought, he’ll probably ask if he can have his memories back, and what the price would be for that... 85. As a child what would they say they wanted to be as an adult?  ie. When I grow up I’m going to _______ He always wanted to be a magician, though when he was younger, he wanted more to be like a powerful, terrifying warlock.  He’s happy with being just a humble magician in a little shop with Asra. 86. Nosgoth matchmaking problems
Nosgoth: Interview with a Game Dev For an Open Beta, the game is very polished and visually pleasing.  Well, I just got to play the game.  It may be humorous at first e.  I've stopped playing the game because the latest change to the way matches end took a lot of the fun out of the game, and I think it would be disheartening to new players to not get equal playtime with humans and vampires.  It's too hardcore and has a steep learning curve.  Very fun game, I'm looking forward the official launch and all the players that it will brings.
Nosgoth Review I've conducted separate experiments regarding this since the discovery of mmr in the game logs, and there are many notable issues here.  Battle Royale players may be experiencing issues matchmaking on all platforms.  I would only suggest this as a time killer.  The deft reaver is able to leap far into the air, pouncing on his prey and slashing with metal claws.  I must say, the first time I played this game, I hated it, but it slowly grew on me.  It really is a touchy subject and I think us higher level players will just have to wait and be patient.
SSBU Online Matchmaking Problems The movement of both vampires and hunters feel really smooth and I´m a big fan of the vampires´ ability to climb building and move effortlessly through the level.  If were in beta let the people who want to play the game play it.  Last week, smooth 4k on their finest in the gears of war ultimate.  A lot of what will make for a successful Rahabim player is picking the right loadout to set up the battle positioning based what the rest of the team is doing.  Nosgoth was developed by Psyonix yes, the developers of Rocket League and was published by Square Enix.
Community State of Play : nosgoth Pretty much all of the classes can't go in alone and get kills.  We will post here with more information as it arrives.  The announcement for the cancellation was made on April 8 th 2016 but the servers were shut down on May 31 st that year.  Well, for the majority of competitive smashers, this is totally unacceptable.  How can cause lobby disconnects in gears of hours of halo 4.  Update contains final map pack and player to play 47.
Gears of war 4 matchmaking problems Each class and race have very unique abilities and game-play elements that makes it load of fun to fiddle with.  Server side updates to gears of war 4; glitches 5.  No recommendations from players, no continued players.  Playing on Wi-Fi when the Belmonts have a strict timing window for special platform tech makes practice incredibly difficult for competitive gamers.  The contrast between foreground and background actually hurts my eyes this subreddit is bad but not that bad.  Real-Time outages and all finding escalation, specifically about this multiplayer games also recently? But if they keep pushing buggy incremental patches there will never be enough hype.  The matchmaking, even with 'Any' selected in matchmaking still seems to never find me a match.
Matchmaking Issues I've seen some bad games with bad glitches and stuff, but this makes those games look good.  Certainly a number of changes I'd like to see, such as adjustments to health stations, maps, random respawns but not enough to ruin it.  Outside of Nosgoth's team deathmatch, there isn't much else in the way of content.  However, this game is still in beta, if you haven't had a look at it on steam yet, go check it out. What vampires lack in the technology of their mortal foes, they make up for in strength and incredible athletic prowess, making them an absolute blast to play.  Usually theres 2 strong players and 2 weak players on each team, or so it feels.
matchmaking problem? That would be best, with such a small pool, you're actively damaging people's experiences if they're not in a premade.  A team would almost always have two summoners just spam casting abysmal bolt or spike forgot the name and two other vampire's trying to fight which turned out to be 4 humans vs 2 vampires + summons.  Early access and beta buy-ins are great until they drag on forever.  Need a constantly updating feed of duty: ultimate edition customer reviews matchmaking problems that doesn't.  Balance is very poor in terms of Vampires vs Humans.  I haven't fell upon a single issue I'd deem horrible or Very fun game, I'm looking forward the official launch and all the players that it will brings.
Solved: Matchmaking Error It'll never get there if people are completely alienated.  The party system as of writing this is broken beyond belief and it almost seems like it doesn´t want you to play with your friends.  What happened to your old Matchmaking system from Black Ops 3? How can you fight,if half of the screen is blocked by your character and you cant see around you or where you going? And for the most part, the developer has been upfront that updates are coming quickly, starting with a new map and a female vampire class, both to arrive in the following weeks, with a new human class to arrive soon after.  Does he take the fight to the vampires? Do you want to join 5 second countdown.  Originally posted by :Consider this a Corey and co.
Anthem Errors Still playing the majority of the time as a solo queue player, though I have occasionally played with one or two people from time to time.  It's not even about competetive, it's about a group with evolving tactics, similar pings, likely teamspeak, etc, going up against a group that has none of that - a group that will have a higher number of newbies because there's no play for them to go.  A video game that benefits from well coordinated movement, pacing and attacks.  The group system also has tons of bugs.  It's a growing sentiment among the rest of us, but lets try and change that.  We'll be monitoring these as well as the game, for any issues you guys run into.

A Weekend of Winning – Observations from the Kings and Bucks Victories
The Sixers now own road wins over the 52-18 Milwaukee Bucks and 47-21 Golden State Warriors, which is pretty damn good.
Fantastic victory Sunday afternoon, and one they really needed. They didn’t need just any old win, since they’ve now ripped off four straight, but what they needed was a statement win, a solid W against a top-four Eastern Conference squad to build confidence and show the greater NBA community that maybe this team does have what it takes to get out of round two. This win was good for the mental health of Philly sports fans, writers, radio hosts, and their spouses. It will give us two days of a natural high until Boston comes to town Wednesday night with the Sixers returning home on the second night of a back-to-back.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Let’s talk about the pair of weekend wins, which I’ve wrapped into one Monday morning post, honestly because I was exhausted on Saturday morning and needed to recharge the batteries.
I re-watched the final eight minutes of the Bucks game this morning, and this is what jumped out to me:
I liked Brett Brown’s timeout around the eight minute mark, which paused and essentially reset the game when the Sixers failed to snag a couple of loose balls after bricking one three pointer off the side of the backboard and air balling another.
Joel did take too many three-pointers, and the one that stood out to me was when Giannis tried a three around the 7 minute mark and he followed suit with his own attempt on the other end. After that miss, on the very next possession, he went to the rack for a spin move, and-1, to extend the lead back to nine. He dialed it back when it mattered, and then went back to the arc for the clutch shot near the end of the game.
Incredibly difficult stuff was going down for Jimmy Butler. A step back 22-footer? Driving straight into Giannis? That’s elite, high-level execution.
I also liked Brett’s timeout at the 4:28 mark, when Pat Connaughton answered Butler three with a three of his own. That was another “let’s kill off momentum and manage the game” type of timeout.
Most of what the Sixers were running down the stretch was simple pick and roll and some half court iso. They didn’t go to their typical elbow or ’12’ sets, not that I saw. They did go to a horns set where Ben was blocked off before getting to the rim, resulting in a Jimmy Butler 12 footer that was missed. They ran it again, this time with the elbow curl, around the 1:15 mark.
Sloppy turnover with Joel looking for JJ backdoor when the offense turned into a two-man set around the 2:30 mark. That was the only poor possession they had down the stretch.
The Embiid ball-fake and drawn foul was ridiculous and totally killed off Milwaukee momentum after a pair of Khris Middleton threes.
After Giannis dunked all over Simmons and called him a “fucking baby,” Simmons stuffed a putback dunk in his face. What an outrageous sequence that was. I’m really happy the refs kept the whistles silent and didn’t go for any technicals there. Let grown men play a grown man sport.
I originally had no clue what was going on with the pair of timeouts under two minutes, because the broadcast just sat on this camera shot of the Sixers’ bench for 10 seconds. I’m not sure the broadcast crew realized that Philly used a second timeout to advance the ball, which I guess was a smart move considering the fact that they couldn’t make it past half court on the most recent play. In that case, you forfeit that second timeout later to help yourself now.
Just a random asterisk type of note here, but Malcolm Brogdon is a good defender and his absence does make a difference out there.
I highly doubt that Milwaukee shoots 16-50 from three again. Nikola Mirotic probably isn’t chucking up another 0-6 night anytime soon.
More than anything, Joel Embiid just came to play. He looked energetic, dialed in, and up to the challenge. Similarly, he really stepped it up in a big way with two big blocks to close out the Sacramento game, which was closer than I thought it would be, considering the Kings were on the second night of a back-to-back, having played in Boston on Thursday night.
And Jimmy Butler looked as good as he has since coming to Philadelphia. When he wants to attack and is totally engaged on the offensive end, he’s as good a closer as the Sixers have had in more than a decade.
Defending Giannis
Very interesting to watch Giannis play, isn’t it? He’s so similar to Ben Simmons in how he attacks the basket but doesn’t shoot the ball all that well, though he’s probably a year or two ahead of Ben on the same exact bell curve of growth.
Giannis is a 25% three-pointer shooter this year and hits at 27.6% for his career. He hit 3-8 yesterday, which really is very good for him, but also honestly fine if I’m coaching the opposition. If he’s out on the perimeter he’s not lowering that shoulder, getting to the rim, and drawing fouls.
Still, modern day analytics types would LOVE this shot chart:
No midrange junk at all. Just high-efficiency, foul-drawing stuff around the rim complemented with three-point shooting. The guy is the MVP, so you gotta pick your poison, and I’m taking my chances with eight three-point attempts instead of putting a 74% free-throw shooter on the line with drive after drive after drive.
Embiid and Simmons were the most effective Giannis defenders Sunday, with Joel the only Sixer to keep him under 50% from the floor while guarding him.
Here’s how everybody fared vs. Antetokounmpo:
Giannis drew 6 of his 9 shooting fouls against Sixers not named Embiid, while the other three came in 45 matchups against Joel. You also see Giannis was 5-5 from the floor when not guarded by Ben or Joel.
He said this after the game, via ESPN:
“It’s easy,” Antetokounmpo said. “I would rather Ben guard me than Joel. It’s simple. If Joel’s been guarding me all night and he’s been making everything so tough on you, when someone switches on you — Jimmy [Butler] or Ben or [Mike] Scott or [Boban] Marjanovic — it’s way easier.”
The Greek Freak will be in town in a few weeks so we’ll get to see him up close and personal and build off what we learned Sunday.
Tweaking the rotation
On Friday night you saw Brett Brown change Ben Simmons’ substitution pattern, which resulted in a grouping of Butler, Boban, and Tobias Harris staying on the floor together while Joel and Ben’s minutes were linked. In previous games, we had seen Ben playing with the former group instead of Butler as Brown did some experimenting following the February trade deadline.
I like that aforementioned trio because Jimmy Butler is a pick and roll and isolation player, while Harris is similar and has known and played with Boban forever. Joel and Ben are familiar with each other’s skill sets and have played two seasons together now in Brett’s motion offense. On paper, it makes sense.
The only thing about linking Ben and Joel together was that the Sixers didn’t have anybody to defend Giannis when they were off the floor. Mike Scott did the best he could, but when the two teams play again soon, Brett might have to take another look at that, because Boban isn’t gonna be able to do it. On the flip side, it’s like a game of coaching chicken – does Budenholzer leave Giannis in the game to chase that favorable matchup? He can’t play the entire game, and at some point he’s gonna be squaring up with Embiid again on both ends of the floor.
You also have to consider that this can leave you with T.J. McConnell and JJ Redick pairings, which stresses your back court defensively. That’s another wrinkle to think about.
Still, mostly positive stuff here. Over at NBA.com, that Jimmy/Tobias/Boban trio has played 92 minutes together with a 12.5 net rating, which is fantastic, though some of that of course includes minutes played with Redick and Simmons while Embiid was injured. However, if you have nights down the stretch where you can get away with Embiid and Simmons sitting at the same time, this lineup has seemed to work pretty well in admittedly limited minutes over the last few games.
Boban
Boban’s strengths and weaknesses were both on display this weekend.
Weaknesses: lateral movement, defending in space
Strengths: height, underrated skill set
First, the strengths. I have this belief that Boban’s passing and vision is a little underrated, and that some of his game gets overlooked simply because we’re incredibly distracted by how tall he is and how he makes some plays look absolutely ridiculous.
I asked Brett Brown and Tobias Harris about this on Friday night, i.e., do we undervalue Boban’s wider skill set because of his humongous size?
Brett:
I remember about two weeks ago, I saw these guys play 1v1, it was Ben and Jimmy and 7’4″ Boban. He is skilled. He can pass out of the post, he’s got up-and-unders, he’s got right hand, left hand and he can make a free-throw. If that’s your point, that he’s so big that you miss the point that he’s good in other areas, I completely agree with you. He’s been a sensational pickup.
Tobias:
I think (it’s) because guys really haven’t seen him that much, this year, just in spurts, but he has more to his game. We were trying to get him to shoot a three (Friday night). There’s more parts to his game that he has, that he hasn’t brought out yet. At his size he’s very strong, too. He’s not an easy guy to just move around. I believe half the time he’s getting fouled more than what’s being called for him with his size, but I think he’ll get more calls with more reps.
It’s absurd some of the things that he makes look really childish just by virtue of how big he is:
It’s absurd how big Boban is pic.twitter.com/4po5efhm7S
— Shane Young (@YoungNBA) March 16, 2019
I just wonder how effective he’s going to be in the playoffs. You can’t play him against Giannis and Al Horford is too stretchy and slippery to chase around. After the first round, where you’ll draw Andre Drummond or Jarrett Allen, we’ll have to see if any further matchups make sense for him, because I think he’s a skilled guy beyond just being large. You have to pick your spots with Boban in your lineup, because he’s a unique guy with unique strengths and unique weaknesses.
Other notes:
Light boos for Nemanja Bjelica Friday night, who agreed to a deal with the Sixers in the summer before reneging and deciding to ultimate go to Sacramento.
Nice cheers for ex-Sixer Corey Brewer, who was wearing fantastic glasses tucked into his headband.
The in-game interview must be fired into the sun. Seriously. Brett Brown and Mike Budenholzer speak before the game AND after the game. They don’t need to speak to the sideline reporter after the first quarter or third quarter. Get rid of it forever.
T.J. had some moments in the Bucks game where he looked like a liability out there. The foul on Giannis to end the 1st quarter was such an atypical play for him.
JJ shot the ball well in both games. Looks like he’s snapped out of the funk he was in. The Sixers are so much better when he’s hitting, especially early, which helps them get into an offensive rhythm.
No turnover issues this weekend, just 10 against Sacramento and 13 against Milwaukee. That average (11.5) would make the Sixers #1 in the league.
I’ll leave you with the Giannis/Ben posters from earlier. I have to admit, when you do this for a living, there isn’t a lot that draws a reaction from you, but I audibly gasped twice while watching these two plays live, then did it again while watching on tape:

rules: answer these 85 statements about yourself
last 1. drink - uhh either water or Good Belly Blueberry Acai juice 2. phone call - it wasn’t even a call I made, lol. my husband and I were shopping, he couldn’t bring his phone probably because it was low on battery. He had a question for his mother (we were running an errand for her) so he called her from my phone 3. text message - my dad! he was talking to me about a song one of my brothers sang, possibly for a talent show? and told me I’m the only child now to not show off my vocal talent and told me he’s waiting >.> 4. song you listened to - Hills Like White Elephants - Isles & Glaciers (I mean the last music I heard was the 2nd teaser for BTS Fake Love but I’m not sure that counts here~) 5. time you cried - not that long ago? idr how not-long ago. I’m a baby though.
ever 6. dated someone twice - dated as in two individual dates, or as in breaking up with somebody then returning to them? if the first, yeah, if the second, no. 7. kissed someone and regretted it - nope. The only person I’ve kissed is my husband, I better not regret it 8. been cheated on - I’d say “not as far as I know” but I’m confident enough to say “no.” 9. lost someone special - idk how loose the term “special” is, but yes. 10. been depressed - I’ve had a much sadder period in my life before, but idk if it would count as depression. 11. gotten drunk and thrown up - nope
fave colours 12. brown 13. burgundy 14. some sort of green. probably celadon/sage green or dark teal
in the last year have you… 15. made new friends - I think so 16. fallen out of love - no 17. laughed until you cried - most likely 18. found out someone was talking about you - maybe? it’s not quite something I find out about often, but a year is a long time for me to try to remember all of 19. met someone who changed you - uhh... don’t think so? My life’s been pretty stable lately 20. found out who your true friends are - don’t think so 21. kissed someone on your facebook friends list - I don’t really.... have one~
general 22. how many of your facebook friends do you know irl - same as above 23. do you have any pets - ok so. 1 dog. 1 cat. 1 snake. 2 geckos. 5 goats. 38 chickens (16 of which are a new flock we just got that I’ve been raising lately and THEY’RE SO WONDERFUL I love them) 24. do you want to change your name - I’m still meaning to change my name to “my last name - husband’s last name”.... We’re supposed to do that soon because I want to do that before I work on getting my passport. 25. what did you do for your last birthday - juggled a bunch of places to go to. I ate out, shopped, hung out at a park near the school @thespectacularspecter had a meeting at, and hung out at a nice coffee shop before heading back home and playing video games ^o^ 26. what time did you wake up today - LATE. I went back to sleep after my alarm (just to keep me on a regular sleep schedule) went off because I haven’t been sleeping well lately. I got up at like... 9:35am? Tomorrow - BTS 31. have you ever talked to a person named tom - uh...... I’m trying to remember. I think I knew a Tom before. It’s not actually a name I’ve encountered in person that often. 32. something that’s getting on your nerves - atm? lately? nothing, I don’t think. 33. most visited website - in terms of the entirety of my life, Serenes Forest Forums. Just the tiniest hints of brown. 35. long or short hair - long 36. do you have a crush on someone - does park jimin count? Not somebody I’d seek a serious future with since 1. I’m married 2. he’s an idol, but jimin is still amazing 37. what do you like about yourself - ever since I’ve started working and being exposed to other people, I’ve recently gotten comparisons to come to appreciate the amount of patience I have. I kept wondering why I kept coming across so many impatient people, but then I realized it’s probably just that I have an ungodly amount of patience in me.
Although, the amount of patience I have largely depends on the context~ 38. want any piercings? - don’t currently want, but I’m not turned off by the idea 39. blood type - I think O-? O for sure, though. 40. nicknames - Kate or Katie 41. relationship status - married 42. zodiac - taurus 43. pronouns - she/her 44. fave tv shows - I can’t remember all I’ve been exposed to lately enough, but I know Gotham’s been pretty great. I’ve played softball before. I’m awful at bowling but I enjoy it and would like to do it more. high key want to get into contemporary/ballet because jimin is an inspiration, but nowhere offers classes for my age~ 50. vacation - have had, or want? There have been plans to go to Germany and potentially China. Dream locations are New Zealand and Japan and Ireland and..... basically anywhere tbh. There’s a reason ISFPs are called adventurers. I’ve been poor all my life, so I’ve never been off this continent except for one time we accidentally landed on Vancouver Island. 51. trainers - I don’t wear any casually, and I don’t really pay attention to what kind of shoes I have for exercising or for the barn. So I guess I can’t really say anything on this one? >u>
more general 52. eating - what about eating? uhhhhh well just now I had leftover spaghetti and some clementines. And this morning I had toast! 53. drinking - by the time I’ve reached this question (since the “last drink” earlier) it’s just water 54. i’m about to watch - either random stuff that pique my interest on youtube or Orphan Black once we have dinner 55. waiting for - EVERYTHING I LISTED IN “something you can’t wait for.” It’s funny that I “can’t wait” for them, but I’m “waiting” for them anyway. 56. want - to return to making money in Guild Wars 2 after I finish filling this out. There’s a kitsune mount skin that I need to make LOTS AND LOTS of money to buy, so I’ve been dedicating my attention to that lately because the red fox is my favorite animal and Ninetales (along with Vulpix) is my favorite pokemon 57. get married - already am 58. career - .... housewife?
which is better 59. hugs or kisses - both are great, but I really do love hugs. 60. lips or eyes - eyes can be so pretty 61. shorter or taller - no preference 62. older or younger - no preference 63. nice arms or stomach - hm. still no preference? 64. hookup or relationship - I’m a romantic. relationship. 65. troublemaker or hesitant - uhhhhhhh. Troublemaker is a good complement to my own personality. But thanks to my personality I don’t really want to get into trouble. The only problem is if there’s another hesitant person I’d probably never go anywhere in my life. But I think I will side with hesitant.
have you ever 66. kissed a stranger - no 67. drank hard liquor - don’t think I’ve ever been given hard liquor to sample, no 68. lost glasses - during the short period I wore glasses instead of contact lenses, I can imagine I probably have at least once 69. turned someone down - Sort of?? I guess the answer is yes. Just the situation was a bit more complicated than “do u wanna date” “no sry” 70. sex on first date - I have not I’m not that cool 71. broken someone’s heart - I don’t think so? 72. had your heart broken - in a roundabout way, sort of but I don’t quite think it was on levels of “heartbreak” 73. been arrested - no 74. cried when someone died - Somebody I knew from high school committed suicide. That was one of the most miserable moments of my life. And one of the most life-changing. I think it was sort of involved in my conversion from religious->atheist (although I eventually became agnostic) 75. fallen for a friend - yes. one of them became my husband.
do you believe in 76. yourself - sometimes, but I don’t trust my judgement often 77. miracles - probably depends on the definition of “miracle.” There are events that happen that I would call a “miracle” 78. love at first sight - I mean, maybe it could happen, but I certainly wouldn’t think that’s a common occurrence. 79. santa claus - my dad tried to make sure I believed in him for a really long time. He had his belief in santa claus ruined pretty early on in his life and he said that ruined one of the huge joys of his childhood, so he tried to make sure his children could experience that joy for a really long time. 80. kiss on a first date - I don’t think that’d be too much of a problem, so I wouldn’t say I don’t believe in it. I personally tend to be more slow-moving than that though. 81. angels - Kim Taehyung. But as for actual spiritual angels, I have no clue if they truly exist or not!
other 82. best friend’s name - rae my bae 83. eye colour - very dark brown 84. fave movie - I..... am not sure, tbh. 85. fave actor - again, something I’m not sure about! I guess I’ve quite consistently liked Alan Tudyk though, and Neil Patrick Harris. And I’ve only seen him in one thing, but Hugh Laurie has left a lasting impression on me.
Well, have you been tagged for this yet @robotsfromouterspace? I will tag you for this, if you’d like to participate!

50 Fashion Tips Every Girl Should Know
You know how sometimes you just know things, but don’t realize that you do until someone mentions it out loud. That’s just the case with fashion too, and that’s why we always need tips from experts, fashionistas, and designers to validate what we know. But, often while reading about stuff, we realize how we miss tiny details and how other people have a different perspective to offer! Like they say, the devil is in the details. If you were wishing that it’d be nice to have a list that states it all out for you, we’ve got you covered.
So, today, let’s take a look at 50 Fashion Tips that will come in handy for every girl – whether you are a college chica or a lady boss. Ready? Let’s do this.
1. For Beginners, Know Your Body Type
Shutterstock
Knowing your body type is the basic thing to know about yourself. Everything works around this, so this is the biggest fashion tip or advise that anyone can give you.
2. Wear The Right Bra
Instagram
Wearing the right intimates is essential for both health and fashion. You need to know your size and when to wear what; basically, you need to know it all.
3. Invest In Good Lingerie
Instagram
Sometimes it is nice to indulge and treat yourself to good lingerie.
4. Own Classics – Trench, Leather, Denim Jackets
Instagram, Instagram, Instagram
Classics like these are timeless, and every girl needs them in her closet. They come in handy all through the year in one way or another.
5. There’s Nothing Red Pumps Cannot Solve
Pumps are great, but red pumps are legendary. The high it gives to strut around in these confidently is of a different level. Every girl needs to experience this.
6. Scarves – Come A Long Way In All Seasons
Woolen, silk, satin, linen, blanket, etc. – you need it all. Some work wonders in winters, while some are for summer and the others are perfect for fall fashion.
7. Denim – Find Your Fit And Save It For Life
High-rise, low-rise, boot cut, boyfriend, baggy, etc. Knowing what suits your body type and size is life-saving. These are everyday essentials, and you can’t go wrong with them.
8. Understand The Color Wheel
It might seem a little unnecessary, but you will be more than glad you looked this up because it’s a game changer and gives you a new perspective when matching up colors. Remember, there cannot be more than three colors in your outfit at one time.
9. Wash Your Clothes The Right Way
Don’t mix whites with colors; don’t put your bras in the washer; wash delicates in the low heat setting; sweaters need a different detergent – pay attention.
10. When In Doubt, Layer
Instagram
Layer your outfit to camouflage any unflattering flab, add definition to amp up your look.
11. Chambray, Plaid, And Denim Shirts Are A Must
Even if you are switching to a capsule wardrobe, you need these.
12. Organize Your Closet Every Three Months
Instagram
A capsule wardrobe is a concept many women are turning towards and enjoying the benefits of. If you think that it will not work for you, at least organize your closet once in a while. You will slowly start to realize how many things you do not use are there in your wardrobe and will discard them anyway.
13. Impulsive Shopping – MAKE IT STOP
A sale should never be a cue to buy something. I mean, not never, but it should not always be (which is the case for most of us). If you have been waiting for a particular product to go on sale, sure, pick it up, but if it’s a random dress you want just because it is on discount, ask yourself if you’d buy it if it wasn’t on sale. You have your answer.
14. Prepare – Practice The Mantra
If you know that you might go shopping this weekend, do a little research and look up stuff online. See how people are styling it, how much you can invest in one piece. This will prevent you from overspending.
15. Accessorize Your Outfits Away
Accessories are an integral part of dressing up. Keep aside some money just for accessories. Just one chunky piece of jewelry can marry an entire outfit. Wear them as per the occasion – office, party, concert, etc.
16. Every Girl Needs AN LBD – Get One ASAP
Instagram
This is self-explanatory, every girl needs an LBD!
17. Master The Art Of Tucking
Front tuck, half-tuck, navel tuck or a full tuck – you need to master some or all of them.
18. Always Have A Few Fashion Hacks Up Your Sleeve
Learn some basic fashion hacks. Like tucking your jeans into the boots, cleaning wine stains, unshrinking clothes, cleaning jewelry, etc. You will save money and sometimes yourself from embarrassment too.
19. Play With Prints And Patterns
Playing with patterns and prints is an art in itself. Some have a natural knack for working with prints, some of us need to learn them. There’s nothing Google cannot help you with, so prepare yourself and act like a pro.
20. Don’t Mix Too Many Colors Or Prints Or Both
Colorful florals with plain skirts or bottoms, or printed dresses with plain accessories and shoes are good – there’s a way to mix them up. You simply cannot afford to mess up.
21. For Long Legs – Match Your Shoes With Trousers
A fashion or a life hack – whatever you call this. You’re welcome!
22. Let One Color Pop At One Time
Instagram
Wear one bright color at a time and let that pop.
23. Own Pieces You Can Use More Than One Way
Like a chambray or plaid shirt, plain black or tank tops, cardigans, T-shirt dresses, etc.
24. Make Fleece Leggings Your BFF (In Winter)
Fleece leggings are Santa’s way of saying he exists.
25. Remember – Leggings With Long Tops
If you are wearing leggings – wear long tops, this is almost always non-negotiable.
26. Combat Boots Are A Classic Too
Instagram
These are, have, and will be a classic forever!
27. Balance Out Loose With Tight
Keep one part of your outfit loose and the rest tight, depending on your body type.
28. Athleisure Is Catching Up – You Need Some
Instagram
Invest in good athleisure wear; wearing sloppy sweatpants to the gym is not cool anymore. Plus, it motivates you like nothing ever does.
29. Recycle-Upcycle-Reuse
Should be your mantra for fashion, or otherwise too.
30. Hem Your Pants – Should Ideally Be At The Top Of This List And Yours Too
Always, always, hem your pants – nothing is more unflattering than folded denim or trousers.
31. Master The Art Of Color Blocking
Instagram
32. Buy Belts – Both Big And Slim
Sometimes, you need chunky belts, and sometimes, the slimmer kinds. So, keep them both handy.
33. Pay Attention To The Details
Pop your outfit with as little details as you can. Listen up people heading to work or college – this is your best bet.
34. Explore Nude Lipsticks And Pumps
Instagram
These will never let you down.
35. When Wearing White, Choose Proper Innerwear
If you can carry whites, nothing like it. Also, choose seamless panties and perfect bras.
36. Between Horizontal And Vertical Stripes – Always Choose Vertical
Instagram
Petite women – vertical stripes make you look taller; plus sized women, these create an illusion and make you look slimmer. It’s always the better choice out of the two, but suit yourself.
37. In Winters, Outerwear Is Your Best Bet – Spruce It Up
If you get three to six months of winter, you know how boring dressing up can be and how depressing life can get. So, give it all you have got for outerwear.
38. Have At Least One Interesting Animal Print Piece
It can be a clutch, a cross-body bag, boots or a scarf – one animal printed piece once in a while is a fair risk. You will soon realize it’s borderline addictive.
39. Take A Cue From The Seasons
Instagram
Fall is about the checkered shirts and camel boots, while winters are about woolen scarves and fancy coats (if you are lucky), summers mean shorts, dresses, and life at its beautiful best – so take a cue from them, follow trends, and look pretty anyway.
40. Know The Difference Between A Day And A Night Dress
Instagram, Instagram, Instagram
A sequined dress is for a night party, a floral one is for the day, and anything in between is for the evening – tread cautiously.
41. Don’t Buy It Because It’s Cheap – Buy Because You Need It
Need I say more? We are all guilty as charged. Let’s try and shift gears slowly.
42. Know Your Best Feature – And Show It Off, Always
Be it your curves, booty, legs or an hourglass figure. All your outfits should work towards enhancing your best features, without being in your face (more like other people’s faces).
43. Experiment With Denim – Distressed, Bootcut, Boyfriend
Experiment and see what else might suit your body other than just standard jeans. I’m sure there are more than one kind that suits all of us.
44. Blazer Up, Sometimes
Instagram
45. Pantsuits, Jumpsuits, And Tracksuits Are Evergreen
It might seem like they are taking a break, but they will always find their way back into the clothing line. But, if they do take a break, it’s never considered dated to wear these.
46. Learn A Few Hairstyles That Are Versatile
The messy bun is nice, I’m not arguing that, but also learn to do a few more hairstyles – you never know when you may need them.
47. Makeup – Know What Works For You
Check out some YouTube tutorials to know what kind of makeup you like, and invest in good products – we all need makeup at some point, if not every day.
48. There’s Never A Wrong Time To Wear Red Lipstick
Instagram
Ruby Woo, Dior’s Rouge or Chanel’s Pirate – you need these or the deepest shade of red in your cosmetic closet. And don’t listen to them – it’s always a good time to wear a red lipstick.
49. Know When To Cinch The Waist, And When Not To
Sometimes, cinching at the waist works like magic, and sometimes, it falls flat on our face. Ask people, ask Google, or maybe, ask yourself.
50. Lastly, Be Confident
Instagram
Nothing, nothing works as confidence does. And, unfortunately, there’s no workaround to this one. Be you, be beautiful.
All said and done, there are no hard and fast rules for fashion, only guidelines, tips, and expert advice. If you think something works for you, go ahead by all means. If you think we forgot to mention something in here, please drop in a message in the comments section below. Hope this helps. See you soon with another post, bye for now.

Bob Davie’s New Mexico is overachieving mightily, but is too one-sided
The Lobos have got to get better than awful on defense in order to keep this up.
This preview was published April 7 and has since been updated.
In an age of increasingly competent pass attacks, the best way to navigate close games might still be to run the option.
Each year, I post an updated list of coaching overachievers and underachievers.
My second-order wins concept looks at single-game win expectancy figures.
The idea behind win expectancy is simple: It takes the key stats from a game (success rates, explosiveness, field position factors, and other factors that end up going into the S&P+ ratings), mashes them together, and says, "With these stats, you probably could have expected to win this game X percent of the time."
Add those figures up over the course of a season, and you get a glimpse of what a team could have expected its record to be.
Second-order wins are good for figuring out which teams might have been a bit lucky.
In 2015, the four teams which overachieved their second-order win total the most were Northwestern, Houston, Michigan State, and Iowa. The four combined for 47 actual wins, when their second-order win total was just 37.3.
In 2016, the tables turned; win expectancy said those teams should have won about 28.3 games, and they won 27. They fell back in line with expectations.
Through the years, certain coaches have managed to consistently overachieve, though. I haven’t posted this year’s list yet, but heading into 2016, Navy’s Ken Niumatalolo topped the overachievers list, averaging 1.1 more wins per season than second-order wins would’ve expected. Kansas State’s Bill Snyder was second at plus-0.9 per year. (Spoiler: they’ll be the top two in the updated list. They were both projected to win 7.2 games in 2016; they both won nine.)
Why am I mentioning this in a New Mexico preview? Easy: New Mexico overachieved drastically for the last two years. Second-order wins suggested the Lobos should have won about 5.1 games in 2015 and 7.5 in 2016; they won seven and nine, respectively.
The Lobos were the No. 5 overachiever in 2015, No. 10 in 2016.
One easy explanation: randomness doesn’t correct itself immediately. Just because you overachieved one year doesn’t mean you’ll revert the next. It’s hard to win nine games with one of the 10 worst defenses in the country, as the Lobos did last year. Maybe that’s not something they can count on, even if they did it two years in a row.
But maybe it’s the option. Niumatalolo runs it. The read option is one of Snyder’s base concepts, as is true for the No. 3 coach on last year’s list, Gus Malzahn. Maybe there’s something to be said for mastering deception in key moments.
In 2016, New Mexico had its best offense yet under Davie. The Lobos combined option-level efficiency (19th in rushing success rate) with big-play capability not typically seen in an option attack. They couldn’t pass, and it didn’t matter because you couldn’t force them to. And when things got tight, the Lobos just did what they do. They went 5-1 in one-possession games and won nine games for the first time in nine years and only the fifth time in 85.
When Davie came to Albuquerque in 2012, he didn’t have any lasting marriage with the option attack. When he was head coach at Notre Dame, his best offense came the year Jarious Jackson threw for 2,700 yards. But he saw the option for what it was: a way to control the ball and keep a defense flat-footed enough to negate athleticism advantages. And he hired former Sam Houston State coordinator Bob DeBesse to master it.
The results have been undeniable. Winners of seven combined games in the four years before Davie’s arrival, the Lobos raised the bar to about four wins per year, then broke through in Davie’s fourth and fifth years. They have ranked in the top 50 in Off. S&P+ for three of the last four years and hit 40th last fall. They win despite almost no defensive progress whatsoever.
I’m struggling to figure out how maintainable it is, though. Winning five of six one-possession games is almost never sustainable, but overachieving in general might be, especially with what the Lobos return — namely, quarterback Lamar Jordan, running backs Richard McQuarley and Tyrone Owens, and four offensive linemen with starting experience.
Still, the defense is starting over once again. Davie loaded up on JUCO transfers (two tackles, four linebackers, four defensive backs) to try to turn the tide. That all-in strategy could pay off, or it could just assure UNM is starting over again soon. Regardless, Davie — the most coveted defensive coordinator in America for a while in the 1990s — knows how much of a lead weight a bad defense can be. And he’ll need to do something about it if he wants to maintain these win totals.
2016 in review
2016 New Mexico statistical profile.
Second-order wins weren’t skewing in UNM’s favor early on. After an easy win over South Dakota, the Lobos played tossups with awful New Mexico State and Rutgers teams and lost both. They stole one back against San Jose State, but following a 28-point loss to Boise State, they were 2-3, and bowl hopes were remote.
The offense was beginning to find its groove, though, and following a shootout win over Air Force, the defense improved just enough to make a difference.
First 5 games (2-3): Avg. percentile performance: 30% (56% offense, 26% defense) | Yards per play: UNM 6.4, Opp 6.0 (plus-0.4)
Last 8 games (7-1): Avg. percentile performance: 45% (64% offense, 41% defense) | Yards per play: UNM 7.2, Opp 6.4 (plus-0.8)
You were guaranteed big plays and points in New Mexico games. I doubt that changes.
Offense
Full advanced stats glossary.
Davie’s approach has been beautifully pragmatic. It’s as if everything he’s done has come from the mindset of: “We can’t be good at everything, so we’re going to be good at a couple things.”
Davie has only once signed a class that ranked better than seventh in the Mountain West, but of the 28 three-stars he’s signed (per the 247Sports Composite) in the last five years, 11 have been either quarterbacks or skill position guys. He found an offense that can draw athletes, and he’s worked around everything else.
The results are undeniable. Despite ranking 104th in Passing S&P+, New Mexico had the most well-rounded offense in the MWC in terms of efficiency and explosiveness.
The Lobos do have some pieces to replace. Teriyon Gipson rushed for nearly 3,000 yards over the last three years and averaged an absurd 8.6 yards last fall. Slot receiver Dameon Gamblin was the closest thing the Lobos had to a possession receiver. Left tackle Reno Henderson was all-conference.
Still, they seem equipped to replace those pieces. Tyrone Owens split feature back duties with Gipson and between-the-tackles guy Richard McQuarley, and he was nearly as explosive as Gipson. Plus, junior Diquon Woodhouse appeared deserving of more carries (he gained 232 yards in just 27 rushes), and former star recruits Kentrail Moran and Daevon Vigilant are ready after redshirt years.
Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports
Tyrone Owens
At receiver, everybody but Gamblin returns. That includes not only reserve slot guys like Emmanuel Harris and Anu Somoye, but also a host of big-play options. Patrick Reed, Q’ Drennan, and Matt Quarells [update: Quarells has transferred to Iowa] combined to average 19.5 yards per catch in 2016, and Delane Hart-Johnson averaged 29.7 per catch in 2015 before missing last season after a car wreck. All that is required of the New Mexico passing game is the occasional play-action bomb, and the Lobos appear capable.
As for the line, injuries and shuffling led to seven players starting at least four games in 2016, and four return. It’s unclear how deep the line may be, but among those without starting experience, UNM boasts seven linemen who were either three-stars or high-twos. Line doesn’t appear to be a concern unless there are several injuries.
Then there’s Lamar Jordan. Listed as a receiver when he was being recruited out of Frisco (Tex.) Centennial High School, Jordan has been the perfect man to helm the Lobo option. He has taken a lot of hits and has yet to play a full season, but he’s rushed for 2,158 yards and thrown for 2,620, and he’s been the leader of two top-50 offenses. It would be a surprise if he weren’t leading a third.
And if or when he gets hurt, junior JaJuan Lawson, redshirt freshman Tevada Tuioti, or JUCO transfer Cameron Burston should be able to fill in. Burston is more of a drop-back passer, so he could fill a passing downs role at times regardless of Jordan’s health.
Barring a rash of injury, New Mexico has the pieces to run the offense it wants, and the Lobos could do it even better than last year.
Ivan Pierre Aguirre-USA TODAY Sports
Lamar Jordan and company
Defense
As impressive as it has been watching Davie’s pragmatism create one of the most dangerous mid-major offenses, it is strange to watch a Davie team struggle defensively.
In five seasons, New Mexico has ranked 117th or worse in Def. S&P+ four times and peaked (I probably could have used quotation marks there) at 107th in 2015. Veteran Kevin Cosgrove took over the unit in 2014 and engineered slight improvement for two years, but the 2016 defense regressed once more.
New Mexico knew what it wanted to be; the Lobos just couldn’t pull it off. They were good at attacking the run, ranking 76th in Rushing S&P+, 53rd in Adj. Line Yards, and 45th in stuff rate. In the MWC, being able to hinder a ground attack is Mission No. 1.
Mission No. 2, however, is “Don’t be completely awful against the pass.” Mission failed. After what appeared to be a decent start against woeful attacks (passer rating through three games: 122.1), the Lobos proved incapable of stopping teams that knew what they were doing. Over the final nine games of the regular season, they allowed a passer rating of 162, giving up a deadly combination: 62 percent completion rate, 15.7 yards per completion. Even in a run-happy conference, you can’t allow that.
It’s hard to see why 2017 will be different. Four of the top six tacklers on the line return, as do three of six at linebacker. But the top four tacklers in the secondary do not. Granted, due to injury, a lot of defensive backs saw the field, and the Lobos do return four DBs who made at least nine tackles. But three began as either walk-ons or unrated recruits, and none defensed more than three passes.
New Mexico needs a blood (and talent) transfusion in the back, and all hope will be in recent recruits. Davie signed four JUCO transfers — including three-stars Willy Hobdy and Jalin Burrell — to plump up the depth chart, and three-star youngsters like Corey Hightower and Nico Bolden will potentially see the field soon.
The good news is that the bar is really low. But that doesn’t mean it will be better, especially when you add in the fact that the players UNM does have to replace up front are the ones who sacked the quarterback. Of the four who had at least two sacks last year, three are gone.

Kimmie Carson
It’s still hard to worry as much about the front, though. Linebacker Kimmie Carson is solid, and end Garrett Hughes had 6.5 sacks last year. Plus, the Lobos employed a good-sized rotation, and 2016 understudies like end Cody Baker and linebackers Austin Ocasio and Alex Hart will probably be able to play about as well as the guys they’re replacing.
The intriguing part is that Davie also loaded up on JUCOs up front, adding two tackles and four linebackers. And his best-regarded signing class, the 2016 batch, now features exciting redshirt freshmen like end Teton Saltes and linebacker Rhashaun Epting. The pass defense might not be better, but at least the run defense might not be worse.

Special Teams
I can talk about the option all I want, but here’s something else that can flip close games: special teams. Jason Sanders was the second-most efficient place-kicker in the country per S&P+ (he was 6-for-6 on kicks longer than 40 yards) and one of the best kickoffs guys as well. Plus, Elijah Lilly was rather all-or-nothing in kick returns, but the alls were impressive.
UNM ranked 25th in Special Teams S&P+, and with everybody back, this should be a strength again, even if punter Corey Bojorquez outkicks his coverage at times.

Per S&P+, UNM had one of the worst defenses in the country and lost more of last year’s production than almost any defense in the country. The result: a projected defense that ranks dead last in FBS.
I don’t think it will be that bad — loading up on JUCO transfers might be dicey in the long-term but should lead to short-term overachievement — it’s not going to be good. And that means New Mexico should look like the New Mexico we’ve seen in recent years.
There are two ways to look at New Mexico’s schedule.
The optimistic way points out that every home game is winnable, and if the Lobos go 5-1 at home, they’re almost certainly bowling again.
The pessimistic way notes that every road game is losable, and a few (Boise State, Tulsa, Texas A&M, San Diego State, maybe Wyoming) are very losable.
The ceiling and floor are close together, though if the good fortune turns at all, reaching a bowl will be a bit of an accomplishment.
Considering what he inherited, Davie’s done a hell of a job. But not even the magic of the option can sustain you forever if you can’t make stops.
