okay i don’t know how big the dimension 20 fandom is on here but i just gained access to a dropout tv account (thanks gully) and am trying to get through every dimension 20 show there is. i already watched season 1 of Fantasy High + Escape From The Bloodkeep and have just finished a Court of Fey and Flowers and have no idea if i should just start season 2 of fantasy high immediately or try out another different series because as much as i love it i have spent so much time with just fantasy high over the years.

like with all good decisions im making others choose for me, please vote on whichever one you think i should try next and if you don’t know what they are but have found this poll just pick whichever name you want. you make the rules i just play by them!! tyyy

okay so i've been just absolutely brainrotting over this for like weeks now and its time to finally post it!

i've basically just been compiling songs that i think fit each of the life series winners, and they're either songs i've seen work really really well in animatics already or songs that would probably work really well, but are less popular or not associated with this fandom (yet)

i'll be linking+listing them here as well as providing little snippets of explanation for why i think the song fits, but i don't feel like making actual spotify playlists or smth, so if anyone else wants to do that, be my guest.

3. Take Me to War - The Crane Wives: i know that everyone and their mother has done desertduo crane wives, but i've yet to see anyone use this song, which is a shame since its one of my favorites!

4. Community Gardens - The Scary Jokes: this is watcher!grian again, sorry not sorry- i do have a really vivid image in my head of an animatic for this song tho (the brainrot goes deep, i cannot escape)

Full disclosure, I am a monster A creature of despair, not that that should be a cause for concern (its so watcher coded im gnawing on the walls)

(ok so remember when i said i had an animatic idea about two sentences ago? ya. so i imagine this part as watcher!grian going through and causing the final deaths of all the winners (except scar we'll get there i promise) for instance, smiting scott at the end of LL, severing pearl's soulmate string in DL, and checking the time left before killing martyn in LimL)

The culmination of man's mistakes came the day The sun ran so hot, it turned the desert to glass (this is the whole "hail mary" thing where they blew up the whole desert and still didn't kill anyone)

If there's something to be learned from all these losers It's that the price that you pay For arrogance and a false sense of immunity Is to face the wrath of a dying star (false sense of immunity is scar's no kill passes, reputation points, etc., which really didn't mean all that much in the end (see: Bdubs))

5. Passerine - The Oh Hellos: aside from the obvious bird symbolism (passerine are songbirds), the overall theme of this song fits the character pretty well! (i think it could also apply to DL jimmy if you squint)

You were the song that I'd always sing You were the light that the fire would bring But I can't shake this feeling that I was only Pushing the spear into your side again (3L typical desert/light/sun/fire imagery, with a bonus helping this time of 3L typical self doubt and/or survivor's guilt! you love to see it)

My palms and fingers still reek of gasoline From throwing fuel to the fire of that Greco-Roman dream Purifying the holy rock to melt the gilded seams It don't bring me relief, no it don't bring me nothing (more arson what can i say- also the hollow existentialism that comes with killing your friends)

6. Do It All The Time - IDKHBTFM: yeah i know it doesn't seem like it fits at first, but i think parts of it captures the spontaneous silliness of 3L pretty well

Extremely Unbiased Thread About Why Kintoki’s Design is Good, Actually

hello. you may call me Luna, however im sure most people here know me as “the kintoki huge tits artist”. today i’ll be doing something quite a bit different than my usual posts, and thats that im going to be analyzing why exactly i think kintoki’s original design is actually really nice. no i am not biased in any way. 

the reason for this is that, being a huge fan of kintoki (and frequently browsing his tag on here), a sentiment that i see a lot is “i really like kintoki, but i hate his design/i like his rider and heian designs more”. which is fair! you are very much allowed to think that. all i want is to possibly give a different perspective on why i think the opposite (and to gush about my favorite character). 

so come with me on this design-analysis slash luna-talks-about-how-sexy-kintoki-is journey!

(this thread will for the most part be discussing his 1st ascension. the reason being is that he really doesnt change much design-wise as he ascends aside from the big coat in his 3rd ascension. also, its my favorite of the three! see, totally not biased.)

we’ll start at the top and work our way down. first, i need to address the elephant in the room, aka my biggest fate fandom related pet peeve. 

this hairstyle? this is not a bowlcut. this is a bob haircut. and its CUTE OKAY. (op has a bob cut and therefore takes these jokes very personally)

a bob is typically longer, enough so to hide the ears. a bob is also meant to frame your face. the bowl cut is much shorter, shows the ears, and is one length all around. 

for reference, the only other character that i can think of who cant beat the bowlcut allegations is tsuna. i see a lot of people saying stuff like “wow, they both work for raikou and they both have bowlcuts!” when their hair looks completely different... 

firstly, his bob is cute! come on :( second, this haircut has roots in historical kintarou depictions! 

this is a kintarou doll, and is clearly what inspired fate kintoki’s hair! despite the rest of his design being very modern inspired, i quite like that he keeps his “historical” hair. i think its a nice little touch/nod to his younger self. 

moving on, lets talk about kintoki’s fashion sense.

breasts...

it took me a bit to pin down what i think kintoki’s fashion sense is exactly, and i think its fair to say he’s very 70s inspired. this is extremely funny to me for reasons i will talk about later. after doing some light research, a big *big* staple of 70s mens fashion ive picked up on is having your shirt unbuttoned like. basically all the way. just absolutely tits out, and i respect that so hard. 

(technically his extremely popped collar is more 80s, but i think its fair to say hes designed after some amalgamation of decade-fashion)

all kintoki’s missing is a crazy pattern on his shirt. come on raita i believe in you

something else of note is, of course, his jewelry! kintoki very clearly wears a lot of big, bold jewelry like his necklaces and bracelets. ive said it before and i’ll say it now, i wish to god he had been given earrings. that would take his design from a 10 to an 11 imho

one word i see thrown around a lot about kintoki’s design is that its very tacky, and im 99% sure these comments are referring to his obnoxious amount of jewelry. however, i believe kintoki’s design works so well because its tacky. again i’ll talk about this more later, but i think a lot of kintoki’s charm comes from his dorky, tacky accessory choices. 

(im sorry kintoki for just straight up putting your crotch on the dashboard)

speaking of tacky and gaudy, kintoki’s belt buckle. yet again kintoki’s quest to look as cool as possible makes him look absolutely silly, and i adore it. i dont have much else to say here except that i love that he wears not one but two belts. (and yet we still see a peak of his underwear in his 2nd and 3rd ascensions? i love him so much) at this point, we all know that kintoki looks the way he looks because hes trying to be as cool as possible in the modern era. but its not very modern, is it? im not sure if this was intentional or not, but a small detail i really really love about kintoki’s design is how... outdated it is. sure decade fashion comes back and becomes cool every few years, but kintoki looks very outdated. again, i think this all adds to his charm. as much as he tries to look like a 21st century cool guy, he just ends up looking like the bully jock in an 80s film. 

i want to take a second and talk about another small detail that i absolutely love about his design, and that’s the use of pink. its kind of small, but its present enough that i feel justified talking about it. kintoki has a pink bracelet on his right wrist, his sunglasses are tinted pink, and my personal favorite, he wears pink underwear! judging by the other characters hes drawn, im sure this might just be because raita happens to like pink, but i love the implications here regardless. definitely a “real men wear pink” sort of thing (toxic masculinity? never heard of ‘im). or, maybe kintoki just likes pink almost as much as he loves gold! he has good taste. 

and not just pink but hot pink! 

(up till this point, ive been talking about and had only planned to talk about berserker kintoki’s 1st ascension design, but for this small portion, i would like to direct your attention to heian kintoki as well:

PINK!! AND LOTS OF IT. kintoki definitely has at least 2 favorite colors.)

lets look at kintoki’s full body one last time. like i mentioned earlier, at first glance he definitely looks like he shoves dweebs in lockers as well he should. and this, i dare say, is the best part of his overall design. i know that at this point when talking about fictional characters, subverting expectations is not exactly a new thing, but i think kintoki does this so well. just look at him. this man wants you to know he goes to the gym. he wants you to know that he’s over 6 feet tall and has a 6 pack. he wears sunglasses at night and indoors for gods sake!!! he’s also extremely kind and dorky. he loves his mom. he loves children and teddy bears, and he respects women.  

kintoki’s design is tacky and silly and outrageous and thats exactly why it works so well. it bums me out when i see people write this design off as being ugly just because they think they see a bowlcut, because i personally think a lot of thought went into this. well done raita! i do see why people might prefer his other designs, because its hard to compete with a cool leather jacket or a half-tits out samurai. that being said, this design is my personal favorite of his! his cheerful personality and lack of objective swag has endeared him to me greatly. 

this may have been incoherent, but i hope you’ll walk away from this thinking differently about our friend kintoki <3

ok as someone who only knows about skullduggery pleasant from following you, i am FASCINATED by the logistics of how the hell does the skeleton man fuck???? hes just bones?????? is he rocking a strap on or is there some kind of skeleton magic going on????

okay so:

- Skug wasn't always a skeleton. He was born totally normal, but he fought in a big war and was murdered by a guy on the other side in 1690.

- thanks to fuckery of all natures including a) magical b) genetic and c) being Just That Pissed Off, he brings himself back to life. Except, this being the medieval era, he was burned as a warning, so now he's a walking biology classroom display whose body basically acts like it still exists - he can feel pain, tell the difference between hot and cold, etc. So there's no actual reason why he wouldn't also be able to feel pleasure.

- at the start of the series, skug has been dead for like 300 years, and he disguises himself with a terrible wig and sunglasses that - since he has no nose or ears to hang them on - he presumably holds in place using magic. but a bit later in the series, he gets something called a "facade", which is basically a false face he can activate by tapping two symbols carved into his collarbones.

- at first the facade only works for thirty minutes at a time and only covers his skull, so his hands etc are still bone. But the person who created the facade keeps experimenting and adding to it, and after like five years, it covers his whole body and there's no time limit on him using it. So now he has a dick again, whenever he wants one. In canon, the facade changes every time, but I cba with coming up with multiple faces to be attracted to, so I just picture it as his original face ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- now, there's three camps of skugfuckers.

- camp one is like "the facade's dick works". And since the creator is his ex-girlfriend, she remembers what his actual dick looked like.

- camp two is thirsty for him as a skeleton, with him either being able to get off through creative use of magic, or not being able to get off himself but using a strap/toys/his fingers to get his partner off.

- camp three is also bone thirsty, but has him using necromancy, which covers shadow magic, to make himself a dick out of shadows. This sounds dumb but he can make them solid to use them as weapons/stab people with them, so it's. Not unprecedented, though how much he'd be able to feel is. Debatable/varies according to individual headcanon.

I'm weaksauce and fanon has him as a hot irish redhead, so personally I'm a facade dick person, but this fandom is nothing if not creative with coming up with ways for the bone man to fuck.

Anyway i really recommend the first nine bonefuck books he's really funny and has mad switch energy

okay, if it is not obvious, i have thought SO MUCH about disability in exandria, so heres a general worldbuilding headcannon vs character based hc but it's shown that disability isn't overly impactful in exandria. basically everything we've seen ranging from pcs like shakaste to big npcs like dancer and also smaller one off pcs like the moorbounder dealer in the city of beasts, whatever the name is, they're fully functional within society despite major physical disabilities and theres functionally not a whole lot of ableism at a surface level when it comes to worldbuilding (thanks matt).

however..... its not hard (for me) to extrapolate how the dynasty in particular would have a not great view on disability (thank u cherry for putting it into words as i was charlie day-ing over coping skills early on). it's not something that i talk about explicitly in coping skills (and may not since it would be really info dumpy and not vibe with the way i write or characterize the wizards lmao) but it's something ive spent a great deal of time thinking thru for the dang fic and my in-head notes are basically a) in a modern setting like coping skills, the healthcare situation moves at a glacial pace partly because elves live forever so what is a several year wait for a non emergent specialist issue and b) major disabilities, things that impact daily living to a significant degree that cannot be "fixed" with magic, are at best really only tolerated until anamnesis or consecution so the body can be reset into a more perfect form

i could wax poetic about the nitty gritty as it relates to coping skills specifically, but that is like, the base premise of 90% of the fic lmao

homestuck :I like part of it was definitely the Fandom Cycle of falling out if interest with something, especially once there stopped being new cannon i could access but a bigger part of it was seeing all my fav artists and writers in the fandoms, particularly the ones 30+, PARTICULARLY Black artist, being absolutely shat on by kids for the crime of... being adults in fandom spaces basically, or otherwise creating fanworks that featured non-white, non-thin depictions of the characters. i live vicariously thru @/roundandtalented when they spam share hs art because i still love those characters but yeesh ye olde tumblr hs fandom got VERY toxic

So I gave in and I watched them and they were amazing, healing and wonderful and they really really helped me

i'm gonna try not to name too many of like. The Big Ones since you've probably read those already but. i am probably going to have a few in there. there is a reason the writers in every fic rec list are in every fic rec list you know? (also i have a poor understanding of tumblr boundaries so just to be safe i'm not gonna tag anyone outright. dont wanna annoy anyone) okay then! fic recs under the cut:

when we were younger by @/we-are-inevitable (also we-are-inevitable on ao3) - sentimental backstory: i was wayyy too early to work cause i live in the middle of nowhere and my buses get me there with at least an hour to spare, so i was looking to kill time and found this! and i thought about it for the rest of the day. so technically it is this fic and this author's fault for making me break a sundae glass. it's just the sweetest tenderest fic i've ever read; jack and davey are high school exes who stumble back into each others lives by complete chance, except now jack's a single father. i've read a few 'single parent' javey fics and they're all lovely, but this one stuck out to me because jack's daughter is actually a teenager. which works really well because we-are-inevitable does a wonderful job at capturing davey's Vibe of displacement in his everyday life (something i especially love about davey as a character) so it's really nice seeing him be able to naturally connect with jack's daughter and jack's life as a whole. it makes the moments of everything all coming together for davey - him finally feeling like he Belongs somewhere naturally, in a way that makes sense - it makes it all feel much more wholesome. it has enough angst to keep things interesting but it focuses much more on jack and davey reconnecting and being able to care for one another the way they weren't able to before, all while maintaining this heartwarmingly domestic family dynamic that i just adore. so it's lovely soft reading for a cozy afternoon (or you can just chug it in under an hour at a garden centre cafe if you're like me - but it's much better if you go slow with it and really let all the sweetness sink in :) )

tied together by @/penzyroamin (or PenzyRome on ao3) - penzy has so many BANGER multichaps and my claim to newsies fandom fame is that i actually helped a little bit when she was developing this one!! it's a beautiful and heartwrenching jack character study told through a soulmate/red string of fate au which works just,,, SO well with jack's issues with being seen and loved and loving others. it's also southern! there's farmers markets! and chubby jack/buff davey supremacy. it's angsty and messy and poignant and beautiful and all about learing to love yourself enough to let yourself be seen entirely ,and letting others make the choice to look at you and say 'this is what i want' - but also learning that it's not a reflection on you if it turns out that you weren't what they wanted. if i'm feeling down about myself i'll read the scene where jack and davey reunite in chapter 4 and just,,, Feel It. something about someone seeing the ugliest parts of you and still not wanting to forget you... ough. love it. gorgeous. mwah.

keeping promises by JewishDavidJacobs on ao3 - an FBI au where davey replaces denton at jack's agency, and jack is furious about it. 32 chapters and almost 90k of found family, enemies-to-fwb-to-lovers, recovering from abusive relationships, learning to be loved, learning you're ALLOWED love despite whatever flaws you have, and davey's patented inability to maintain a healthy work-life balance. it's everything i want as a davey stan. it's got a meaty white-collar crime subplot that keeps the conflict and tension going, and really adds to the friction between jack and davey as they navigate their very complicated relationship with each other. it's messy but it doesn't overstay it's welcome on the messiness - you get just as much of davey and jack being a healthy, loving, functioning unit as you do of them being disasters. that being said, be careful with the content warnings; past abusive relationships of both familial and romantic natures, and terminal illness/background character death.

across enemy lines by JewishDavidJacobs on ao3 - davey and jack are in an established relationship, but when davey gets hired as pulitzer's assistant, it creates a divide between him, jack, davey's family, and the newsboy union as a whole. it's VERY heavy on the davey whump and scratches the itch i have as a davey kinnie to make davey suffer as much as humanly possible. it focuses a lot on davey's homelife, the antisemitism he faces every day, his feelings of displacement in all the units he's meant to be a part of (school, the newsies, his family, etc), and again, davey's patented inability to maintain a work-life balance. as much angst and whump as there is, the final few chapters more than make up for it in terms of sweetness and catharsis and all that found family goodness. it also does a really great job of humanizing pulitzer and acknowledging the progressive aspects of him as a person while still being aware that this dude was a wealthy victorian capitalist and not actually some secret good-guy.

lovely bitter water by illinoise on ao3 - fairytale au javid where davey is a fairy sent to help pirate!jack find his happiness, which jack does NOT want him to do. it's got a wonderful stardust vibe that really makes you feel like you're reading an actual queer fairytale, which filled a void i wasn't even aware that i had. it's a wonderful exploration of both davey and jack's self-sacrificial natures and how they clash agains each other in that respect, which creates this fun enemies-to-lovers dynamic where they learn to understand and respect and pine for each other. the world is wonderfully set up and it incorporates the other newsies characters (including katherine, there is SO much respect for katherine in this fic) in really fun ways!

like real people do by @/loving-jack-kelly (AsperJasper on ao3) - now i know you specified 'the longer the better. full disclosure, this fic a oneshot of around 4.5k. HOWEVER, it does such a fantastic job of capturing this otherworldly ambience that makes it feel like the story just keep stretching onwards that i can't NOT recommend it. to summarize, davey lives in a small medievial-esque village and seeks out a fae (jack) to wish to alter his life. the world is so well-defined, and the rules of magic and jack's backstory are all so interesting that you just want to read it forever. if 'lovely bitter water' is a classic fairytale, this is a CELTIC faerytale, and i am nothing if not a devout welshman. it's raw and abstract and poetic, it draws beautifully on davey's desperation to make his family proud while still wanting to live his own life as just Himself, and it actually inspired a little babie au i'm noodling on! highly recommend.

these are the ones i could think of off the top of my head; i didn't want to pick too much of the same or pick too many that you'd probably read already, although it's possible you might've. read all of these already. they are REALLY good. if that's the case feel free to ask for more!! but if not i hope you like these fics like i did :))

only for my story sims, in the spirit of keeping things semi-consistent between chapters, because i swear sim stede gains weight faster than any sim i've ever played, and sim ed often ends up TOO BUFF from all of his energized swimming 😂 other than that, i do not, i just let them do their own thing. i dont really use too many custom body shapes for ts2, but definitely coming back to it after playing with the diversity in ts4 has been a bit jarring, but also custom body shapes are a lot of work so. idk what the solution is!

i think mostly i've gotten better at taking and editing pics? gos was pretty much my introduction to sims cc (with the exception of some sailor moon skins/heads i had for ts1 that my dad had to help me install 😂) so that had a HUGE influence on my style that i never really strayed from. i think i toned it down a bit in ts4, but at my core, i am still very neon/grunge oriented

Anyway I just really enjoy your analysis. Both bc it teaches me something new regarding like narratives and storytelling and because you like don’t care if people hate on you for being pretty much right. Especially about the ending of the show being something along the lines of a discussion. Salem is not our big bad. Salem is just another side of the same coin *cough that screen shot of light and dark and then salem and light*

On another note. Being the Blake Stan that I am. I’m constantly think about her and her actions towards leading. Especially since she’s taken up the leader position momentarily. Like this is a great moment for her bc it shows how much she’s grown since v2. Not to say that she doesn’t have shit to work through since v6-8. It’s just different bc Blake has found herself again. She’s not 17 anymore and trying to hide who she is. She’s embraced a lot of her goofy nature and her teams reassurance that opening up is okay.

And Im prepared to eat my words later but. It feels like Blake and Ruby might have another conversation regarding that loss of self. Blake understands what duty is and how it can weigh you down. Her whole life has been based on the fight for Faunus rights. She attended beacon, a place where you can become a huntress, because a huntress is seen as righteous and good. Just so she can maybe figure out how to help her people. That’s a big thing for a 17 year old to feel. And right now Ruby has undergone the same thing since she was 15 and moved up two grades. Except instead of just one group of people she’s concerned about the entire fucking world. And she’s literally falling apart to the point where the narrative makes us go to wonderland to rekindle a new sense of purpose or come to terms with our intersectionality. Like yes Ruby rose is a huntress, a girl, has silver eyes. But how much longer is she going to just allow those parts of her self to become everything ?

“…but that’s it. They’re just a part of you. Don’t forget about the rest.” Ruby has forgotten the rest. And I’m really hoping We get a similar conversation to the one Blake had with Nora and an extension of her conversation with Ruby in The Schnee Mansion. But I’m not going to like get my hopes for it either bc I’m sure there’s a way to show that line of thinking without telling it but I think it would be nice. It’s clear everyone will help Ruby in some way I just think it makes a little more sense to have Blake having another burning the candle moment with Ruby. Like as a bee shipper yes I’d also like something simialr with them but this just feels like it makes more sense especially since the bees are clearly gonna be doing their own thing BUT i do think Blake will have an impact on Ruby in the worst and best ways especially as she takes that leader role. Bc Ruby’s self loathing is gonna make her feel like Blake is a better leader. So for Blake to clarify and say “everyone needs help sometimes Ruby. Just because we rely on you doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a break” like cmon its right thereeee.

the secret to happiness in fandom is to not care about being right akshdj like. will i be stoked if i turn out to be approximately correct in my predictions? yeah i love being right. do i trust my own analysis, and will i argue my case if someone tries to argue with me? of course. but also at the end of the day i’m here to enjoy the story and if i’m wrong or if someone disagrees with me who cares. my ego can stand to be reminded that i’m not perfect now and then khshcjn

anyway on the subject of blake and ruby. in hindsight it feels very obvious that the talk those two had was set up for the dynamic that is going to develop in V9. (<- an example of me being ‘wrong’ btw in that it did not even occur to me to read that as heralding a literal reversal of roles rather than merely illustrating the overt pressure on ruby’s shoulders; and isn’t it exciting that i can be as unhinged about the details as i am and still miss blisteringly clear foreshadowing like that!) and slantwise to that there’s the ✨mountain glenn✨ reprise everyone can feel coming, the return to the question of why they chose to become huntresses and what that means to them, and the reckoning with the institution and the concept itself in light of the things they know now that they didn’t then.

because there’s this explicit connection between what blake says in mountain glenn and what she tells ruby in volume eight. blake chased her profound desire for justice and restoration to beacon because huntsmen and huntresses are revered as “the most noble warriors in the world,” but she has no plan—no idea how to put her ideals into practice. the allure for her lay fundamentally in the idea that becoming a huntress would realize her desire for social justice through the intrinsic goodness of the profession itself; she escaped the soul-crushing, terrifying experience of seeing someone she loved and trusted slowly corrupt the civil rights movement she’d grown up with into a cynical vehicle for his personal spite and self-aggrandizement, and lunged for the shining incorruptible heroism of the huntress ideal because it made her feel safe. except there is no such thing as shining incorruptible heroism, and becoming a huntress in and of itself doesn’t and cannot effect change, as oobleck delicately points out by asking her “how?”

consider the traits that blake sees and admires in ruby: in V5 she describes ruby as the embodiment of “purity” and in V8 she tells ruby that she looks up to ruby chiefly because even though “you don’t always know what to do, but that’s never stopped you from doing something.” <- blake sees in ruby a freedom from that question of “how?” that she still doesn’t know how to answer. she sees a girl who is both unwaveringly good and unburdened by the hesitance and doubt blake struggles with. this contrast is immediately visible from their first encounter and is cast into sharp relief during the mountain glenn arc, when ruby’s singular dedication to becoming a huntress is made a counterpoint to the uneasy uncertainty of her teammates.

but in V6-8 this contrast is steadily unraveled and revealed as an illusion, because the truth is that ruby’s pure certainty made her uniquely vulnerable; being a huntress is something that her teammates DO, but being a huntress is what ruby IS. her whole sense of self is encapsulated in the statement “i am a huntress” and unlike her teammates, she cannot reevaluate what being a huntress means to her—let alone walk away from it—without shattering the very bedrock of her identity. she has no off-ramp. nothing to fall back on if it turns out that the reality of being a huntress doesn’t line up with her expectations or her values.

like, if blake looks back on the past two years and looks at the ways her world has been shaped by the huntsmen system and decides she no longer wants to participate in that, her identity does not need to fundamentally change. she already has the emotional and ideological framework for leaving behind an organization that no longer aligns with who she is or what she wants to do with her life, even if she’s not able to articulate a precise alternative, and she has a social safety net in the form of family, friends, and allies outside of the huntsmen system. separating herself from being a huntress is as simple as saying “this is not right for me” and leaving it behind to focus on a different approach to her goals. the essential core of her identity is that she wants to stand against injustice and fight for a better world; she doesn’t need to be a huntress to do that.

but ruby? there is some passing similarity between herself and blake in that ruby, also, is driven by a desire to make the world better—but for ruby this desire is inseparable from the desire to become a huntress. “i want to become a huntress because i want to help people; my parents always taught us to help others, so i thought hey, might as well make a career out of it.” <- to ruby “help people” is synonymous with “slay monsters.” in eight whole volumes the only HINT of an alternative she’s considered is the implication in 1.1 that she also thought briefly about joining the police but decided against it because huntsmen and huntresses are “so much more romantic and exciting and cool.” like this is her LIFE. her SELF. her entire family and all of her friends are huntsmen and huntresses too, many of them reliant on her to lead them; her every ambition and fantasy is wrapped up in being a huntress. there is, to borrow oobleck’s turn of phrase, nothing else in this world she would rather be. so even as being a huntress tears her apart, she can’t tear herself away from it because it’s all she’s GOT.

the only way out for her now is to let herself shatter. like, she cannot keep doing this. ruby is so far beyond the point of what she’s able to endure that her body is literally shutting down. and that’s going to be so painful and scary for her to come to terms with because the only way to not be broken forever is to completely remake herself. to reject entirely the idea of herself as a huntress and figure out who she is without this thing that DEFINED her.

and i think the narrative is likely positioning blake to take up the mantle of leadership in her stead because—just as the things blake most admired in ruby have revealed themselves as one of ruby’s greatest vulnerabilities—the things blake identified in herself as uncertainty and cowardice are beginning to reveal themselves as her greatest strengths; adaptability, resilience, the ability to let go of old beliefs about herself and her world as her perspective changes. blake admired and found inspiration in ruby’s pure conviction, but blake is the example ruby desperately needs, and in particular her experience of leaving the white fang—a movement that in a sense quite literally raised her, just as ruby grew up within the machinery of the huntsmen system—will, i think, give blake some crucial insight into what ruby’s dealing with now. because she’s been there, and she made it through to the other side, and she is living breathing healing proof that ruby can survive this too.

I GENUINELY FORGET AKI EXISTS SOMETIMES. like my brain just goes "uhhh remember denji and power's big bro" and im like "OH". if you remember my akutagawa bingo, i think you can see a pattern which can only be described as "i am so sorry but i just cannot make myself care about brooding dark-haired anime boys" 😭😭 (dan heng from hsr is one of the few exceptions) idk i really do think his story was sad but i'm also kinda like. i was too focused on other things when i read and watched csm JSKDSLASLSL. "what things" well.. let's talk about the next character on our list.

feel free to shoot me or stab me for this. but yes, THIS WOMAN IS ACTUALLY MY FAV CSM CHARACTER 😭 (along with kobeni and asa) i just love evil women! and i love well-written evil women! and i have so much to say about her. i genuinely love the way she was written and she's a very realistic character, but i am not a fan of how the csm fandom just. doesn't care about her character at all and cares only about her crimes and i'm not even talking about her basically destroying the whole world and killing SO MANY PEOPLE, i'm talking about her relationship with denji. which is, OF COURSE, bad and extremely toxic and unhealthy, especially considering that denji is a minor. however, i think seeing that as her only "personality trait" is so.. it just doesn't sit right with me. like i would be okay with people talking about everything she's done and analyzing it and going "yeah she's still a bad person even if she's well-written and deep" but i am NOT okay with people going "yeah she's a groomer and also she killed my faves :(" like. i don't know. if you don't want to interact with such "problematic" content just don't read it? though i'm gonna be honest i'm pretty sure most csm fans are very young and from what i heard, a lot of them haven't even read/watched any "dark" content before csm. me picking "they are innocent if u ignore their various crimes" is obv a joke, i definitely agree that makima is a terrible person, but also. i can't deny that she's pretty <3 and also the fact that she just needed a hug breaks my heart every time i think about it. i actually have a plushie of her too! one of the best purchases i've ever made, she stares at me with her big ol' yellow eyes and i do everything she says. thank you for motivating me to do my hw, queen.

but enough talking about my faves. honestly.. i don't really care about isagi? which actually makes me very sad bc i found him very relatable at first but then i kinda got bored? like i can't even describe his personality, i can only say "uhhh he's friendly with other guys unless he's playing football and also. uh. he likes football"? and ig that can also be very fun and i'm usually a huge fan of characters that usually act nice but also have a very rude and mean side, but isagi is just. idk, i don't really find him that interesting and those moments when he's like, busy analyzing everything and coming up with strategies.. honestly, i just skipped them JSDKSLSLS. I WANTED MORE ACTION OKAY. i think his relationship with bachira is cute though!

BACK TO MY FAVES. i would bite kaiser's head off if i ever got the chance but he's also one of my fav characters. yeah. he's so cool, i love his design sm, i need to look like him. i want to get into his head and figure out what's wrong with him. i want to squeeze him and crush him and tear him apart, but i also love him so much. tbh i don't know anything about the new chapters, but i'd love to learn more about him, it's like, at the same time, i want him to have a backstory that's a little bit (or maybe VERY) sad, but i also kinda want him to be like that just bc he can (even though i'm pretty sure it was implied that he does have a reason for acting like that). and yes, i love his relationship dynamic with ness. yeah.

reo. another fave of mine. though i actually didn't like him that much when i first saw him, but. i knew deep down that a purple boy will become one of my faves. love this gay disaster of a man, everything that happened between him and nagi was more entertaining than every single romance movie that i've ever watched. i want him to get better and realize that he's capable of doing great things without him. i also want him to become even more dependent on him for angst reasons. it's hard. and i honestly both love and hate that moment when he decides to return to nagi right after he finally started to get some character development, because YES I WANT HIM TO GROW AND I WANT HIS PERSONALITY TO BE SOMETHING OTHER THAN "if i spend at least one day w/o nagi i will die", but also it's very realistic and as someone who was in MULTIPLE (platonic) relationships that were exactly like his relationship with nagi.. that moment was very painful. in a good way. and again, i wanna look like him.

my relationship with mikoto is very hard to explain bc it's like. in theory, i'd love to learn more about him. i'd love to stan him. but also.. i'm not a fan of how the fandom pretty much makes his DID his only personality trait? maybe i'm just on the wrong side of the fandom, but i rarely see any posts about his other traits? again, i'd love to learn more bc i have a feeling that we have a lot in common, but. but yeah. i'm a huge fan of his minigram version though <3 so silly. so squishy. so funny. (honestly, me being salty that almost all convos about mikoto usually discuss his DID is so funny to me now that after three therapy sessions i've found out that i'm most likely a system SJHSJDKDLSL like bro THAT IS YOU) about "i would push them down the stairs" i mean it in a silly playful way :) like i want him to fall down and scream in a very cartoony and funny way.
