if you have the time or inclination, can i ask what the deal with motogp/those boys is about? i don’t mean that in a mean way btw, im just curious and i love drama

i will try to be brief (1/4358)

SO! valentino rossi (born 16 February 1979, aquarius. italian.) is one of the most iconic people in motorsport, CERTAINLY in motogp. he's a 9 time world champion, your favorite driver's favorite driver, and is generally credited with revolutionizing the popularity of the sport by: a. being insanely good at motorcycle racing, and b. in general having a lot of fun about it. lethally charming and charismatic. all time active listening face. just a fun and funny dude that everyone pretty much likes and MANY younger riders idolize. VERY good at handling the media and his legions of cult-like fans. sometimes treated more like a god than a person. i was in the store yesterday and saw one of his themed monster energy drinks despite him retiring two years ago. his fun retirement activity is racing BMWs and running his own motogp team/training facility/cult for young italian racers. (this is where cele and bezz and basically every italian rider not named enea bastianini come from!)

so in 2011ish valentino had won 9 titles, and he decided to leave his current manufacturer and move to italian manufacturer ducati where he generally had a stone-cold terrible time. EXTENDED flop era for a couple years. any time ive watched content that covers this period everyone is so sad. so sad. anyways he GOES BACK to his old manufacturer in 2013 and is much more competitive. kind of just happy to be winning sometimes and be on the podium. 2013 is also where marc comes in. what could go wrong.

marc marquez! (born 17 february 1993, almost exactly 14 years after vale which i'm sure means nothing. also an aquarius. spanish.) childhood sports idols include: dani pedrosa, VALENTINO ROSSI.

marc carved his way up through the feeder championships until casey stoner unexpectedly retired at the end of the 2012 season leaving a seat empty on a VERY good bike for his rookie season. rocked up and was immediately VERY good at winning and very good at being a crazyinsane person on track that made people mad at him lol. hilarious habit of pissing people off via on-track crimes that i really enjoy. motogp riders are already crazy (they do death sport) but marc is famous for taking risks no one else will. basically if he's not winning, he's crashed out or he's maybe crashed YOU out. he wins the championship as a rookie (insane) and the next year's championship as well. heir apparent to the throne. sweet and goofy but is now known as one of the more reserved riders with the press. probably because of all this drama tbh. undisputed GOAT of acting like a slut on camera

throughout 2013-2014, marc and valentino had a good relationship! marc very clearly idolizes him and is like. bowled over completely with delight every time valentino looks his way. vale likes him! theyre buds! truly an endless well of pictures of vale explaining something with his hands and marc babygirling at him. highly recommend checking out @pgaslys every rosquez podium tag for contextual brain damage. insane times.

(IT SHOULD BE NOTED: before the 2015 season marc visits valentino at his practice track in italy, where they compete to break the track record and almost kill each other bc they are so pathologically competitive. APPARENTLY, marc showed up with some official mechanics and valentino was a little pissed off because it was supposed to be a like. fun thing. and to marc winning is the most fun! if you dont come to win why come at all! anyways marc breaks the track record and credits that to cooling their relationship a bit. good post about it here.) here they are that day:

so what could go wrong, right? WELL. valentino has a chance to win his tenth title in 2015. marc is on a flop bike and crashed a bunch so he's not in the championship conversation but vale is leading the standings from the jump, with his main opponent being jorge lorenzo. i think he really wanted that tenth, and dedicated himself to the season in a way he hadnt really ever before (he was a very effortless competitor when he was young. gym-adverse. king).

marc and him start to get into some scraps along the way, notably in argentina (where they made contact and marc crashed out), assen (where they made contact AGAIN and vale won the race), and phillip island (marc won. GREAT race available here for free). phillip island sees vale finishing P4 and jorge lorenzo finishing ahead of him in P3, reducing his championship lead by quite a bit. no real indication of any tension during these races, and they are asked about it!

this is where valentino's delulu era begins! basically, ahead of the next race (🔥🔥SEPANG 2015🔥🔥) in the pre-race press conference, he goes after marc, saying he was deliberately sabotaging valentino in phillip island because marc wanted jorge to win. in valentino's mind. marc wants jorge to win because a. they are both spanish (??) and b. it would mean marc has to win less titles to equal valentino's total. record scratch. freeze frame.

everyone (including marc!) thinks valentino is joking at first bc that is bananascrazyinsane. he was not joking. (it should be noted valentino STILL thinks this lol.) anyways marc is completely blindsided. he thought they were good! yeah they've been chippy on track but that's racing!! truly like. 22 years old and your friend (AND CHILDHOOD IDOL.) is calling you a snake in front of your face with NO prior warning to the entire motogp establishment writ large including your coworkers and REPORTERS. valentino wont even look at him the entire time. the press conference is available here on vimeo. excruciating gifsets of marc's very stiff bewildered PR smile found here.

anyways so. the race. marc is uh. pissed off. he's stuck to valentino like GLUE the entire time and they trade places a bunch of times. now marc is kind of famous for being a little asshole on track anyways, but its not like he's gonna get out of valentino's way and just let him pass after what he said in that press conference so. hand in unlovable hand <3. truly very fun to watch imo even with the sword of damocles hanging over them. marc is fucking on one the entire race and basically refuses to give valentino an inch until vale gets so fed up with his antics that um. well. it certainly looks like he kicked him. vale says he didnt, and that his leg accidently made contact with marc's bike. marcs says. he fucking kicked me. judge for yourself here!

so valentino gets hauled in front of race direction and penalized for the next race (the deciding race for the championship). he has to start from the back of the grid and it kills his chance at a tenth title stone dead. vale places the blame squarely on marc's shoulders and his legions of fans decide marc is public enemy number 1. him and jorge have to get security at the next race because of death threats, someone tries to break into marc's childhood home back in spain, marc's mom throws away all of marc's valentino merchandise from when he was a kid. vale says nothing.

but the thing about marc. is that he loves very hard and chooses his people pretty carefully. didnt really move out of his tiny hometown until he turned 30 and also made his baby brother move in with him kind of guy. so all this is not really enough for him to let go of vale entirely! 2016 is where the pain lives! bc marc is still reaching out and vale himself stays pretty cold for a couple years. they seem to faintly reconcile for a bit but its not anywhere like it was before sepang.

the real nail in the coffin is argentina 2018. another insane race where marc has to start from the back and goes on a rampage through the field and crashes out like three people. i cant remember. this race is also available on youtube for free its very entertaining. every five minutes marc does something insane. vale is one of the people marc crashes out and afterwardshe goes on a big rant about how marc is destroying the sport and is actively dangerous. marc goes to valentino's garage immediately after the race to apologize and vale doesnt even look at him. he gets turned away at the door after vale's best friend/assistant/henchman yells in his face1!!! and thats kind off all she wrote in terms of reconciliation

anyways that's where we are! they are both very much not over it. vale goes on podcasts and is like. in 30 years i will still be mad, im literally never going to get over it it was such a big and unfair thing and i think about it all the time like it was yesterday. and marc (lying) says as time goes by i dont even think about it :) and i care about valentino less and less :))) but yes he hurt me deeply lol. CANNOT stress enough how much this entire thing is now inextricably liked to both of their legacies. the two arguable GOATs of a sport had an epic fleetwood mac-style beatles breakup divorce and everyone wants to talk about it allllll day long including me :)

additional context! really recommend checking out marc's little docuseries he put out this year about his recent struggles with injury. he is so not right in the head and it goes over the valentino drama in ep3. theres also hitting the apex (2015) which goes over the 2013 season (marc's rookie season) and is a really good introduction to all the major players at the time. its like less than 2 hrs long so its not too much of a commitment

also recommend following scholars @babynflames, @its-always-silly-season, @baking-soda, and @f1vegas as well as many others im forgetting rn bc its 2am!

*this is NOT a rec. omg. this is not a book most people would enjoy. it is super graphic and violent and deliberately horrifying and uncomfortable. i loved it. it very much asks questions and explores themes at the intersections of all my interests - submission to Duty vs. Authority, questions of loyalty and devotion even to a 'bad' person, mercy and justice to 'bad' people, being worthy of care regardless, questions of autonomy and dehumanization and what does choice really mean when you are not free?, facing the monster of the self and refusing to hide from it and acknowledging the terrible thing you are, questions of responsibility, duty and care of a Master over his servants, and man to man, family angst, religious angst, what does the ends and the means really mean when it's harm reduction? when it's doing something unspeakably awful to prevent something even worse?

THAT BEING SAID. it is still like. a book about a doctor who is forced against his will to become a government sanctioned torturer in an evil space empire. and to his disgust and horror he realizes he's a sadist. he's not only /good/ at it, some part of him /enjoys/ it. and he has to live with that knowledge, that burden, that guilt. Andrej is Not A Nice Man, by any means, but maybe, MAYBE, he can try to be a good one, or as good as circumstances permit. im compelled by this exploration of things so horrifying. we cannot look away from the horrors. cannot refuse to ask the difficult questions. and art is just. the place for that exploration of things too terrible to stomach irl

in general, im an animal. my favorite words to describe myself are “beast” and “thing”. i consider my theriotypes more as parts of the animal i am than individual animals i identify as. they sort of all mush together to make the thing that i am! heres them listed:

- general domestic dog(s?) (not sure of the specifics. one type is for sure a herding dog of some sort.)

- wolf (of some sort... i’ve never really been sure of the specifics..)

deltarune ch 2 spoilers ahead im tagging this post but just in case it shows up for anyone but idk how to put things under a read more thing so

this is just gonna be incoherent rambling but as much as I love ralsei my guy is definitely quite a bit sketchy sometimes and I really have a feeling he’s gonna be part of some kinda twist

I don’t think he’ll end up being like the Big Bad Villain or anything because ‘sweet innocent character has secretly been the main villain this whole time and we won’t tell you until the last minute’ doesn’t seem like a trope the game would use but I definitely think there’s something else going on there like a lotta others have been saying

I mean his similarities and parallels to asriel are painfully obvious and have been brought up numerous times, appearance and the anagram names being the main ones ofc plus from what we can gather from the townspeople’s comments on him and what we know from undertale they may have relatively similar personalities as well. also the fact that ralsei knew kris and susie’s names immediately when they arrived was weird. lots of ground for a ralsei is asriel theory but idk if I personally subscribe to that, mostly because the ways he acts around kris (like getting flustered when they stand close to him and other moments that could be perceived as him maybe having a crush) would make that twist very weird. also ralsei and ut!asriel are both princes, though I don’t know if that really means anything

also i really don’t think he’s actually from the dark world, 1) we don’t see any other goat monsters in the dark world and we already know there’s goat monsters in the light world, 2) he doesn’t turn to stone when outside of his dark world like lancer and rouxls and 3) he has knowledge of the light world suggesting he’s already been there before. he knew that the dark world portal was in a school and that kris needed to grab the junk from the other closet to bring everyone back in the dark world.

tldr I love ralsei a whole lot but I really do not think hes telling the truth about a whole lot of things

there are a lot of fics i love in a way thats like 'this fic is fun but it doesnt feel like something that would happen in the Actual Canon' (which is fine!) but this one Does feel like it could happen in The Actual Canon which is cool

this fic also has probably my favorite depiction of nicky's relationship with god/religion in any fic ive read ('[nicky's] peace had come only after walking away from faith as a competition of intensity in favor of faith as a steady compass that he followed like the beat of his heart in his chest.'). i love the whole Drama played out by the background characters and how they all have their own ideas and motivations & nicky is just kind of resigned to being caught in the middle of it.

(also love how near the beginning joe's like 'the Right thing to do in the situation would be stay at this river and help these people.... ... ....... ... .... ... anyways see ya guys later gotta go find nicky'.)

someone recced this fic to me and i dont remember who. but note that the major character death tag is not, in fact, for a major character but for a background one. neither joe or nicky perma!die in this. also normally i dont like fics where joe or nicky are bi bc Thats Not Canon Babey but i do like this one, i love joe's relationship with Grace and how nicky's perception of that relationship gets flipped on its head halfway thru the fic. i also love joe's Weariness Of Immortality, like when joe talks about how 'youthful' nicky makes him feel. his pov just kind of Feels like an old man and i like it

theres a smut scene in this fic which im personally not big on smut scenes but theres this bit where joe tries to figure out condoms and its very cute. also 'You have many kinds of magic, Nicky. All your spells have worked.' ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

also i just like how WHIPPED joe is from like the first 3 seconds he sees nicky. theres one bit where nicky's like 'ill come visit you!' and joe's like 'when🥺' and nicky's like 'as soon as you like!' and joes like 'now?????🥺🥺🥺 literally come home with me???' incredible.

also the Magic System was cool. i also love how nicky just Accidentally made himself immortal. what a man. also i like this line 'it would never occur to [nicky] to attend any service that wasn’t going to have a direct outcome. Grace takes comfort from it, so maybe that’s the only outcome needed.' idk its so sweet

How do You Solve a Problem like Bucky Barnes: 8

It’s beautiful watching the Ambassador warm back up to his children. The first thing to go, you’re thrilled to see, are their uniforms. Ambassador Barnes had brought his laptop out one evening and let the children pick their own clothing. He’d approved of everything and taken a few things off of Hope’s list before ordering them but it’s nice to see the children in regular clothing.

You teach them more songs, some Sokovian ones, some church songs and more American ones. It seems that Ambassador Barnes likes the American ones the best and you like the way his eyes light up when his children sing about the country he’s clearly so proud of.

Steve had gifted the children a massive puppet show stage and some really incredible puppets. A handful of people and goats, some townsfolk and a prince, Ambassador Barnes hires someone to come in from town and teach you and the children how to use the puppets. You look up a song that can use each puppet and when you and the children are ready you invite the Ambassador, the Baroness and Captain Rogers to watch the production you put on.

It goes almost flawlessly. Wanda blows some of the foam from the fake beer up into your mouth as you sing causing you to inhale it. Peter almost forgets to lower a backdrop and Pepper puts the prince out in the nick of time. It’s a hectic couple of minutes but the children have a blast and the smile their father gives you makes your heart race.

“I just had the best idea Buck.” Captain Rogers says throwing an arm around Hope’s shoulders. “We should enter the children in the singing festival this fall.” The children all gasp and start to excitedly talk amongst themselves. The Ambassador lets out a sarcastic laugh then thumps Captain Rogers on the back.

“You’re very funny Steve. Expensive but funny.”

“They’d be the talk of the festival!”

“No Steve.” Ambassador Barnes says and his children all make quiet sounds of protest.

“But Buck-“

“Steve, my children do not sing in public.” Ambassador Barnes warns and before Captain Rogers can argue further you interrupt.

“Children, who should we hear from next?” You ask and they crowd around you.

“I think father should sing.” Hope says softly and her siblings all quietly agree.

“What?”

“He use to sing with mother when we were young. And he knows how to play guitar.” Scott says and Hope nods.

“Alright,” you tell them before they move away from you and you bring the guitar to the Ambassador. “The vote is unanimous Ambassador, you.”

“What? No, no I couldn’t.” He says waving his empty hand.

“The children told me you’re quite good.” You lie hoping the flattery will convince him to perform. “And you used to sing once.”

“That was a very long time ago.” He protests but you can see the smile tugging at his lips.

“I remember Father.” Hope says, the mischievous look on her face is enough to break Ambassador Barnes.

“Alright fine.” He says putting his drink down and gently taking the guitar from your hands. He sits on the couch and the children all gather around while Captain Rogers and Baroness Romanoff sit down on the couch. You stand in the corner of the room, near the door where you can lean against the wall and see all of the kids. Ambassador Barnes plucks a few strings before he begins to play a Sokovian lullaby. His voice is rich and soft and beautiful, Hope joins in for a moment and when he finishes the song his startlingly blue eyes meet your gaze. They’re warm, so much warmer than when he’d first met you, and he gives you this small soft smile and a little nod. You can feel your face heat up as a smile pulls at your own lips. The way that he’s looking at you makes you feel like gold, it feels like you’re the only two in the room until the Baroness clears her throat softly.

“Why don’t we really fill this house with music?” She asks coolly as she makes her way over to Ambassador Barnes. “You should throw a party for me James.” She coos, “it’s high time I meet your friends and they meet me.”

“Oh father a party would be lovely.” Hope chimes in with a wide smile before the rest of her siblings agree and Ambassador Barnes lets out a dramatic sigh.

“I don’t know.”

“Oh please father.” Pepper begs and he gives her a poke in the stomach causing her to laugh.

“Oh, alright.” He agrees and the children all cheer. You glance down at your watch as they all talk excitedly about the party.

“Alright children. It’s time to get ready for bed.” You tell them. They quickly say goodnight to the Ambassador, Baroness and Captain before heading upstairs.

“It’ll be my first party father!” Wanda cries as she hurries out of the room after her siblings and you follow closely behind her not daring to look back at her father.

The party is scheduled for two weeks out, something that you’d think would give you plenty of time to prepare but it doesn’t. You have to get all of the children hair cuts, the Ambassador insists you get one too telling you to pamper yourself a little bit. Hope begs you to get your nails done with her so while she gets a deep eye catching red you get a soft pink.

The Ambassador had a dress sent out for you for the party. It’s a lovely forest green A line skirt that falls to your knees with a swoop neck and little sleeves.

You wear a pair of black flats with it, and while all of the other women are in full ball gowns you’re not a guest, you’re an employee of the Ambassador so you’re required to dress like one. You spend your evening with the children, Hope, Scott and Pepper don’t need much supervision but Peter and Wanda do. They’re shy when their father introduces them to a few of the more important guests.

“General Pierce, this is Baroness Romanoff.” The Ambassador says, his voice tight and when you glance over at him those blue eyes of his are cold. He’s so easy to read through his eyes. You meet his gaze and he glances from the General to his children then to you and with a small tilt of his head you understand. He doesn’t want the General near his children, so you give him a tiny nod then gather the children and hurry them out to the garden where you’ll practice your Goodnight song and let them play for a while before coming in, saying goodnight to the guests and going to bed.
