OK the new layout is unfamiliar and I know most of that is just a matter of acclimatisation. But what REALLY bugs me, and I think is a bit sinister, is how they put unread notification badges right where you can't ignore them.

Unread badges that numerically show you how much stuff you aren't seeing right now! Right now!!! Keep refreshing your feed and keep looking at posts and stay on this site forever and help us rack up ad money!

I think unread notification badges are a scourge, and there's been some writing about how they train you to keep checking your social media. It's one of those insidious design choices driven by the "impressions = revenue" framework that every single social media site runs on these days. Anyway I think I'm installing something specifically to remove those badges because nothing puts me into a rage quite like that.
