My Ghoul headcanons! With a few I've picked up from other posts. Also, spot the Avatar (James Cameron) inspired hcs. Basic hcs

Ghouls are pack creatures. They love being together, whether it's laying around together in a Ghoul Pile, playing games, or just doing tasks around the ministry.

Packs seem like giant polycules to outsiders, but they're much more complicated than that.

The Ghouls love teasing the Siblings of Sin.

They're extremely loyal to their Papa.

When on tour, they will wear enchanted amulets that shift their appearance to appear human. This has been named "glamour".

Sometimes packs will sleep in "piles". This is usually to keep bonds strong or simply for comfort.

Ghouls mate for life, partners basically bond their life forces together.

Ghouls can mate and bond with more than one individual. This can include other ghouls and humans. Biology hcs

All Ghouls have varying shades of grey skin and spaded tails (although Water Ghouls normally have fins on their tails). They also have claws on both their hands and feet, toe pads, horns, rough forked tongues, and sharp teeth.

Their tails and ears are very expressive.

Their tails are prehensile.

Water Ghouls have "ripple" or "water like" markings, usually a shade of grey darker than their skin. They also have webbed hands and feet, finned ears, and gills.

Ghouls have a superb sense of smell, sight, and hearing. Each Ghoul has their own specific scent, that all other Ghouls can smell and recognise them by. They will also memorise smells from their favourite humans (this can include human mates).

Packmates are connected to each other via telepathy. They can tap into each other's emotions, and can talk to each other through this strong connection.

Their eyes glow in the dark. They usually have a slight glow normally, but at night they're pretty bright.

Each Ghoul can tap into the magic connected to their element, or elements.

All Ghouls have a thin layer of fur on their chest, back, biceps, and down their backs to their tail.

They all go through a type of cycle, no matter their gender.

During the colder months, the thin layer of fur they have will grow thicker. It's very soft and fluffy, but dense. Although Quintessence and Air Ghouls have a thicker coat of fur all year long. Air Ghouls have the softest fur, almost cloud like in a way. While Quintessence Ghouls Ghoul Scents (Prequelle and Impera Ghouls, including my OC)

Dewdrop: Wood smoke

Aether: A soft, pleasant incense. One that doesn't tickle your nose or cause you to cough

Rain: Petrichor

Swiss: Crushed rosemary

Mountain: He smells like a greenhouse: That delicous wet warmth smell

Glacier (my OC): A warm, windy day with a hint of orange

Cirrus: Ozone

Cumulus: A cold morning wind

Sunshine: Eucalyptus

Aurora: A sea breeze

Phantom: Slightly like sweet beeswax

Water Ghouls have backwards facing serrations on their fangs, making it extremely difficult for prey to escape. This is also why why they don't tend to bite their partners or pack mates.

Earth Ghoul teeth are the most similar to human teeth, the main difference being their overall strength and much longer fangs.

Fire Ghoul teeth have long fangs with sharp teeth on either side of them.

Air Ghoul teeth have a lupine appearance, with sharp incisors and sharp first molars.

Quintessence Ghouls have very sharp, strong teeth that have a sort of "classic monter" look.

Multi Ghoul teeth are a mix of the elements they are connected to (symbols are a mix of all their elemental symbols).

on love (and basketball): hirano to kagiura, ch 23b

if the title's not obvious, SPOILERS BEWARE! I'll be putting this under the cut for extra safety and also because. i have a tendency to not shutting up

so i recently saw this wonderful post by @kalpalatas talking about how basketball is central to hirano and kagiura's relationship, and there's a lot of wonderful add-ons to it as well, so highly recommend checking it out (i may be one of them ;p)

anyways, to me, a lot of hirano to kagiura as a manga centers on the complications of the fact that hirano and kagiura both have deep feelings for each other, but the way they express these feelings and the way they're received hasn't quite aligned. hirano's confused by why kagiura isn't happy to be touched, and kagiura is absolutely in the dark regarding hirano's feelings, judging by the way he immediately thinks hirano's trying to officially turn him down. we saw it in that chapter with the distrail and we see it now--despite all that kagi's been doing, he's remained so careful about not crossing that line. that silly little love fortune has haunted him.

so here, it's a breath of fresh air for kagiura to just notice how much hirano loves "the kagi-kun that plays basketball." and for kagiura, who plays basketball morning, day, and night, the version of him that plays basketball is just. himself, entirely. it's this passion that hirano responds really positively to--because hirano responds positively to passion and drive in general--and it's probably the point in which they connect the most, I think. side note: though it's not explicitly said, kagiura zeroing on not missing any shots (the thing that cost them the game last time) really shows how much that loss affected him. i think this moment's really lovely because we get to see what we see in the first chapters of hirano to kagiura--that hirano's a genuinely affirming and uplifting presence in kagiura's life. for a moment, when it's basketball, it feels like that confusion between them suffuses into pure warmth.

anyways, when they're talking with ichinose, the question that gets cut off seems to be kagiura asking about hirano's passion, which I'm very excited about... if hirano understands kagiura's love through the lens of his passion for basketball, how much kagiura's understanding of hirano develop when he understands hirano's dreams? hirano's approached kagiura's feelings with a lot of curiousity (wondering about his expression in this chapter) and I like it when they discover and ask things about each other. it's very them. i also have a lot of crazy feelings about ichinose but uh. haha! perhaps another post. i don't wanna sound too unhinged yet...

I'd love to have formatted this post better but I hope my main points have got across... this is really just half a reaction post to the ch since it's a really cool chapter overall. also just for fun i'll let everyone know that a lot of the moments where kagiura gets blushy or something really romantic happens often has kagiura like... below hirano in perspective or height. seriously if you go back through the chapters you'll notice it. it happened again this chapter which I was so excited about. this chapter's so awesome. so many different things to talk about.

(like... how kagiura almost kissed him...! and hirano's reaction is. fascinating. i always love how it's so delayed. it's like... how do i explain it. when it's delayed, it feels like hirano's reacting to the feeling more than the physical situation, which is... wonderful to me. the way he talks about kagiura having dated before also makes me think he hasn't, which checks out to me.)

He's the type of parent to spoil his kids but also sorta strict but like in a fun way y’know. Like giving you a lot of candy but he’ll make sure you brush your teeth. Then if you don’t he’ll tell you a scary story about how the tooth fairy sees that you didn’t brush your teeth and she takes you away and traps you in her basement, taking all your teeth away since you can’t take care of them so you don’t deserve them.

Spoils so much. Whenever he’s gone for a couple of days because of the IPC, he brings so many gifts back for you, it’s not like he wants to do their dirty work so it's more like bringing gifts to both of you since seeing you happy makes him happy.

He got you a jar once filled with candy that you both would share taking two out each—for the both of you—it’s special to you since you both always share two to symbolize another good day for the two of you yet you won't take one unless he’s there with you since how can it be a good day if he’s not there. (stole that from The Male Lead's Little Lion Daughter)

Oh, he's def the type when you ask him to teach you card tricks the first time he messes with you and shows you the most complicated card trick you’ve ever seen then hands you the deck, starting at you as if expects you to do what he just did in your sleep or somethin’

Ugh, he’s also the type to read your bedtime story no matter how old you get. He still reads you Cinderella.

You’re his perfect child. As everyone looks up to him, the people around your age do the same. You both are a perfect duo to each other. Almost like a spitting image of him with the way you act. 

He’s the type of parent who you don’t like to do something that he would dislike…it’s not an angry expression or frustrated words but disappointment…just that disappointed look on his face without any words to say just staring at you with that look on his face bring shivers down your spine. “I told you many times did I tell you to not do that…sigh, I'm disappointed in you.”

You always accompany him whenever he anywhere to go—you’re sort like his pet bird just waiting for him to give you any kind of command, forget being his assistant you’re more like a pet—you both always look good together maybe you might able to live up to how good of a duo that Sunday and Robin are but that’s far in the future and as if you have a chance.

He’s loving, patting your head whenever you do something good, it makes you so happy to get the slightest of his attention since he’s always working so hard for the small amount of attention is good enough for you.

if mark lee hated professor flitwick for always singling him out during class, then he definitely loathed him now.

mark was, admittedly, not the brightest student in hogwarts. if he were, then the sorting hat should’ve placed him with the brainy kids – the ravenclaws. but he wasn’t. he was just a regular lad in hufflepuff. embarrassingly, he was failing charms. he had barely passed the first two years (note: barely), but with every spell becoming more and more complicated, his skills needed to be at least average. furthermore, he had expressed to his parents of his dream of becoming an auror, basically someone who protects the wizarding world. it was a must for him to pass the most of basic of subjects which is charms.

he really wasn’t expecting much when flitwick called him to his office. he guessed that the goblin might’ve wanted to give him a proper scolding to motivate him to study (which would’ve been unfair because he really was trying), or another one of his “charms for dummies!” spell books for him to read. what he wasn’t expecting, though, was a first-year slytherin student sat in front of flitwick, not even giving him a glance.

flitwick ushered for mark to sit down, to which he obliged. “this, boy, is y/n from the slytherin house. she is undoubtedly one of the best witches of her year.” mark saw you sat up as flitwick complimented you.

“she’s very proficient in first year spells that i actually taught her the second-year ones, to which she has shown proficiency in as well. and alas, as i taught her the third-year spells, the results were all the same. she is ahead of her cohorts, this girl.” flitwick continued.

mark felt his eye twitch. was this goblin really just looking for an audience to praise some first-year? and picked his worst student at that? he held himself back from saying some . . unbecoming words that could get him into detention. his silence urged flitwick to continue speaking.

“due to her outstanding performance in charms, she will be tutoring you for the rest of the term.”

“what?!” you and mark both exclaimed.

“sir, i appreciate the compliments and your trust in my skills –” mark barely stopped himself from rolling his eyes at your words. “but i cannot possibly have the time to tutor someone, someone who is supposed to be more advanced than i am!”

“and sir, i am aware of my performance in class, but really, asking a first-year to do this? my pride is hurt, sir!” mark almost yelled, much to flitwick’s dismay.

“silence, lee.” flitwick glared at mark, shutting him up. “y/n is the perfect candidate to be your tutor, as i’ve realized you require more than one educator for you to improve.” the goblin sighed. “she is a first year, with no extracurriculars yet and with a much lighter workload. you tutoring lee, miss y/n, will not affect your grades in any way shape or form.”

you opened your mouth to retort, but before you could do so, flitwick spoke once more. “could you help a goblin out, miss y/n? the last thing i want is failing a student, it’s such a hassle for me to handle the paperwork. i’m getting old, and stress is catching up with me.”

you paused for a bit, sparing the 3rd year who was slumping and pouting on his chair a glance, and sighed in defeat. “fine, i’ll do it.”

mark, in his thirteen years of being alive, had never absolutely felt the word embarrassment right to his core, not until now.

it wasn’t much of a surprise that his group of friends were suddenly informed of his. . academic situation with a first-year slytherin. gossip travels quickly in hogwarts, that he knows as much. it was also just to his luck that you were an acquaintance of jisung’s, and jisung isn’t exactly well-known for keeping secrets. he eventually spilled the beans to chenle, who was always hanging out with jeno, and jeno seemed to favor jaemin’s company so naturally, jaemin found out as well. jaemin shared a dorm room with haechan, who was another loud mouth that kept hovering around renjun, and eventually, the news reached renjun, who had way too many friends in the ravenclaw house for mark’s liking, and they found out about it too.

eventually, the entire castle found out that a thirteen-year-old’s tutor was an eleven-year-old. definitely nothing weird about that.

for the following weeks, mark had to live through snickers and stares as he walks down the castle’s hallways. the attention got even worse whenever students would spot him with you on school grounds.

and speaking of you, well, mark thought you were a brat.

it was never a good idea for a child to teach another child (“like the blind leading the blind”, haechan had once quipped). you were temperamental, stoic, and strict at the same time. you got mad quite easily and always raised your voice whenever you felt the slightest frustration (which would only escalate since mark loves pressing your buttons). he found your pursed lips, furrowed eyebrows, and huffing whenever mark makes a mistake amusing, that was until you decided to punish him with a light hex if he ever made you mad.

the tutoring hours were long, too. after class, he’d take a quick bite at the great hall and spend almost four hours with someone he deemed a variant of an angry goblin. those sessions were extra hellish when his friends would sit and watch.

tldr, mark was just exhausted. he was tired of seeing you, his friends’ teasings, the looks on everyone’s faces, and flitwick’s expectations of him.

he let out a long sigh, catching your attention.

“you know, we’d finish much earlier if you were doing it right.” you mumbled grumpily.

“i’m trying, okay?” mark replied through gritted teeth. today, you had decided to teach him about the tickling spell, rictusempra, by making him apply it to a beetle. “i don’t think beetles can even feel this spell.”

“well, it’d probably react.” you shrugged your shoulders.

“probably?”

“oh, just do it!”

the next day, mark lee felt tired.

it felt like he exhausted all of his strength trying to conduct the spell correctly onto an animal that he’s almost a hundred percent sure cannot be tickled. he kept muttering the words ‘rictusempra’ over and over again, making sure his wand was facing the direction of the beetle (he can also clearly hear you scold him for waving his wand willy-nilly).

mark, who was hunched over the table in the great hall, felt a light tap on his shoulder. he looked up and saw his friends grinning. “need some company?”

“if you’re just gonna piss me off, then no. i don’t need company.” mark groaned.

haechan cooed and sat beside him, the other boys following suit. “aw c’mon, it’s probably not that bad.”

“yeah, for you.”

jaemin slid a plate of food in front of mark. “hey, it’s best if you get some grub. you’re probably stressed out enough.”

mark sniffled and snuggled jaemin’s arm. “aw man, you’re literally my best friend!” which resulted into haechan whining and the others rolling their eyes.

mark went back to his charms textbook and the spell he’s been practicing for almost a day now as the guys continued their own conversations. “rictusempra!” mark whispered, waving his wand mindlessly as he chewed on his bread, re-reading his charms notes.

his attention was averted to the sudden piercing scream, no, it was a laugh – from the slytherin table.

the laugh felt too familiar, and it sent chills down mark’s spine.

he tried to look for the source of the sound. his wavering gaze fell on your wriggling figure on top of the table in front of him, you were laughing, crying, screaming uncontrollably. he froze when your eyes met his. oh, fuck, was all he could think about.

“mark lee – HAHAHAHA – you frigging – HAHAHAHA bastard! HAHAHAHA!”

he saw haechan and jaemin run towards your figure, with slight panic and amusement painted on their faces at the same time. chenle gripped mark’s shoulder and watched as haechan, with jaemin trudging along, struggled to carry you out of the great hall. “dude, you’re fucked.

Would you count the dark mirror as a character in Twst? Isn’t it just a powerful artifact that just happens to have a face?

This is a very interesting question Camra! 👀 I fear my answer to it will be wishy-washy nahxjs, but the Dark Mirror is a complicated case.

The Dark Mirror is certainly referred to as a magical artifact that respects NRC. Other schools also typically have magical artifacts that represent their own school, like Noble Bell College with the Bell of Salvation.

The mirror itself is an object, but this has little influence whether or not the Dark Mirror could be considered a character. The Magic Carpet from Aladdin, for example, could be considered a character in its own right, as it was animated with its own personality despite literally being a carpet. It reacts and interacts in its own unique way to the plot and other characters, so the Dark Mirror being an object doesn’t really matter in that aspect. I suppose you could say the same thing about the living gargoyles in Glorious Masquerade, which were much more obvious as characters in Hunchback of Norte Dame?

According to the official pamphlets, the Magic Mirror has the Evil Queen’s “familiar demon” enslaved inside, represented only by that iconic mask. In the movie itself, it functions like…a computer or phone with all the answers, but also speaks on his own. In other mediums within the Disney franchise, he also soeaks on its own and shows more clear emotions. In those cases, the Magic Mirror is definitely be a character

But in Twisted Wonderland, it’s role is confined to being transportation and sorting souls for the dorm- it’s talking role even more limited. Instead of being a distinctly masculine figure in Disney franchise, the Dark Mirror is referred to as “it.” I think in the Twisted Wonderland context, it functions as an artifact that happens to have a face like you said. There may or may not be a soul inside it, but its actual role seems to be a magical artifact rather than a character- speaking it’s direct answer and nothing more.

However, I would like to add that Crowley is the only character to treat the Dark Mirror like it’s own person, with emotions and facial expressions that we really don’t see at all.

This is unique to the manga I believe, but when Riddle is saying to Yuuken that it’s impossible that he doesn’t have magic, the Dark Mirror intervenes, and all the students are surprised that the Dark Mirror responded on its own- as if it’s not normally supposed to do this.

Now that I think about it, it may be important actually 👀 Everyone else sees the Dark Mirror functions as a magical artifact and object, whereas Crowley sees it as someone who can feel joy and delight, and deserves to be respected, despite simultaneously also speaking about the Dark Mirror as a magical artifact. So…my answer to this question is very wishy-washy as I’m uncertain myself, but perhaps that is supposed to be case? 🐦‍⬛ I would personally say it’s meant to be perceived as a magical artifact, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this would change in the future.

#taz talks #writing #actually i WILL explain but i'll do it in the tags #these each serve the same function within their respective appropriate genres #each one is a kind of revelation #they heighten the connection between 2+ characters and highlight relationships and feelings and needs #they are out of place in genres where they do not belong and/or as curveballs when the narrative did not provoke them from the start #but they have the same sort of emotional/dramatic build-up #talk -> sing -> dance (talk -> yell -> stab) ((talk -> flirt -> You Know)) #and they are all expressions of intense physicality and intimacy through physical gesture and interaction #they are fundamentally empty and boring if there is not a deeper purpose or drive behind them #although they can still occasionally be entertaining on their own if your audience is specifically seeking that experience out #people who do not like them will be very unhappy to encounter one where it isn't supposed to be #it is very easy to ruin the mood with poor word choice #many people have an inherent sense for terrible ones but it's often difficult or complicated to explain precisely why a bad one fails #when executed properly they are a very raw and intimate expression of a character's most fundamental needs and desires #the fluff is stripped away and there is nothing left but a series of needs. conflicting or cooperating. #and even when you're lying during one it's still a form of truth #none of these things are remotely necessary to tell a powerful or compelling story but if you're going to use them you need to do it right #also all 3 of these things are difficult if not impossible to write if you are not both interested in them and personally invested #this post brought to you by me trying to write smut about my dnd characters and failing because i generally hate /reading/ smut #so i have none of the vocabulary or instinct for it that i do for. say. graphic violence (or lyrical poetry)

There's an amazing thread on twitter about how Childe is actually good at manipulation.

What I want to add: he also went through the whole Liyue plot without technically lying even once, only using hints and omissions.

(if not for his personal quest, I would have assumed this boy runs on fae rules and is incapable of lying)

This says A LOT about the character. He hates manipulation, he does it anyway (because the job comes first), but he also does it in a way that adheres to his morals at least to some extent.

(he also warned Traveler they'd be eavesdropped upon. not that it helped)

a character can (deservedly) blow up a SINGULAR time in canon and from there on out the fandom will paint them as an aggressive and angry individual even though in most cases them losing their shit is supposed to be a big deal because they’ve always been forced to contain everything they feel up until that point. like. if people were used to them being Mean and Angry then them getting upset wouldn’t be such a big deal… you are missing the point of what are supposed to be very moving moments… it’s about them bottling things up and the inevitably of breaking no matter how strong they try to be… it’s about the rawness of their emotions… it’s about the unplanned vulnerability… it’s about the catharsis…

sitting around emotionally compromised thinking abt how big and loud rick grimes' feelings are and by comparison how quiet carl is. sure, carl gets angry and picks fights but when is he loud or expressive? they have the same dynamic in almost all of their most devastating moments. after lori's death, rick is screaming, crying, rolling on the ground and carl is just standing there quietly and alone. when negan makes rick think he has to cut off carl's arm, rick is crying and begging and carl just quietly tells him to do it. when carl is dying, he's reassuring rick that he was a good father. hmm interesting

#i love their relationship but also uh oh ! its not. good per se that the child is always the one comforting his father and almost never the #other way around #esp after loris death watching carl stand there alone getting screamed at by rick was so hard to watch. and then rick virtually ignoring #him after #4x13 is the only time i can think of when carl really gets emotional w rick and rick is unconscious! #ooh i just love complicated family dynamics <3 #oh the exception is when they think judiths dead and carl shoots that zombie a bunch of times. still not really yellong #or saying anything at all but he is being expressive #twd #this is of course a subsect of my larger thesis called. carl grimes takes after his mother more than he does rick
