Maybe Gideon is with Rumple in HH...

(I feel the need to preface this post, as I do every time I speculate about something that might be interesting or enjoyable to watch, with the caveat that I don’t really BELIEVE this might happen ...but...)

So I think most people are assuming that Ossifer Rogers is going to be a single dad to the darling CSpawn in S7. I was as well, based on Eddy saying that we will know in 7.1 whether CY had a kid, and our knowledge of what was and wasn’t filmed in SB for that ep. (JMo didn’t film at all, for example.) The obvious answer to me is that we would see Killy with his child in HH. 

But later filming and interviews have made me wonder. We have had Killy’s centric with no indication of there being a kid, and apparently Rogers is going to feel a sense of loss he doesn’t understand, or something like that. If he’s a single parent, it seems that the curse would have to give him some backstory (widowhood or divorce) that WOULD explain his feelings of loss. And now Kitsowitz have said something along the line of Killy having a “pressing goal”  rather than a love interest, which again seems like a strange way to describe parenthood.

Meanwhile...we’ve heard absolutely no details about Detective Gold/Pewter (snort), not even his name, which implies to me that they are holding something significant back. HH Rumple is wearing a ring on his widower’s finger (just as Gold did in cursed Storybrooke). And in his centric, we’re apparently going to see trick-or-treating kids in a Seattle suburb.

Yeah, that’s not much in  the way of suggestion, but Rumple being a single father would answer a few questions (as well as open many more). Perhaps more important, it gives him slightly different stakes from Killy’s--we don’t have two characters with identical stories of remembering their real lives so they can get back to their wives and children. 

It would also address another detail that’s been niggling at me: Who is Alice in Hyperion Heights? So far, I think Bobby is the only person we know of who has filmed with Rose (he mentioned it at SDCC, but they hadn’t spent enough time together for him to remember her name, oops). And judging from the tweet posted of her chair, she is filming again for 7.4.

I’m doubtful that even Kitsowitz would give Rumple a love interest, let alone one thirty years his junior when ABC seemed to have so much trouble with the Rumbelle age difference. (Especially since Alice is my guess for the new LGBT character, based solely on the fact that she doesn’t have a canonical love interest and seems to be by far the most marginalized of the recurring cast, sigh.) If she works at the police station she would probably have filmed with both Bobby and Colin and that desk sergeant guy. So what if she is Gideon’s nanny? 

The other reason that I like this theory--in addition to the fact that Papa Rumple is THE CUTEST and it makes the stakes really high if Gid is not safe in SB with Belle--is that it leaves room for Giles to guest star again. Gideon being present makes Rumple having dreams/visions of grown Gid, perhaaps giving him advice or warnings, more plausible, IMO.

Of course this would also increase the mystery/danger of what happened to Belle. And I know not even to hope that Detective Rumple would get a glimpse of an enchantingly beautiful woman across Roni’s bar who reminds him of his dead wife in every way except for being blond...

October, Sat urday 5, 2019. It’s like today is some inside joke of the universe or whatever. 

Some hours ago, I must have taken the SAT. Unless something happened yesterday or I didn’t wake up on time this morning.

Okay, it’s all messy. Let me start again.

This is a scheduled post, which I have written long ago. On September 15, to be precise.

Somebody told me that the best way to make stress go away is to talk about the experience that stresses you, so this is my SAT emotional support article.

Let’s make it Wikipedia-ish.

(Disclaimer: study tips are from the point of view of a homeschooled student living outside the USA.)

1- What is the SAT?

The SAT is a standardized college admissions test, organized by the College Board, mainly based on multiple-choice questions. Nobody really remembers what the letters in the name stand for, but the legend has it it’s Scholastic Aptitude Test. Then there were some changes and good luck understanding what became who.

There are different types of SAT. The core one includes: 

section one: 65 minutes of Evidence-Based Reading (52 questions), a 10 minutes break, 35 minutes of Writing (44 questions), 

section two: 25 minutes of Mathematics without calculator (20 questions), a 5 minutes break, and 55 minutes of Mathematics with calculator (38 questions).

There is an optional Essay that you have 50 minutes to write, immediately after the Math part.

Then there are as many SAT Subject Tests as there are hydrogen molecules in a pond, from Literature to Modern Hebrew. They cannot be taken on the same day as the regular SAT.

The core SAT score has a lowest point at 200 per section (400 in total) and peek at 800 per section (1600 in total).

The SAT score you get will hugely affect your chance to get into uni(versity), if this is the test that you choose to use for admissions.

2- Who can take the SAT?

Anyone. That’s one of the great things that the USA have. No matter where you’re from or where you live, if you can pay for education, then you can get education. I am homeschooled, using a program from Florida, and I will take the SAT in a school near home, in the Dominican Republic. 

There is no educational condition to taking the SAT. You don’t have to have studied in an American school. You just sign up, pay the fee, and wait for the testing date to roll by. And it’s good, because it’s internationally recognized.

There is no age restriction to taking the SAT. You can take the SAT when you are 12 years old. You can take it in 11th grade (this is recommended, as finals in 12th tend to occupy students too much, and adding SAT to that is not goodTM). 

There is even a window of years after you get out of high school during which you can take the SAT just how many times you want. When this post-high-school period is over, you still can take the SAT, you only have to explain for what reason you’re waking up after so long. 

The College Board stores your score indefinitely (if you take more than one of the same test, you can even choose which results send to colleges), but some colleges may require seeing SAT scores that are not more than 3-5 years old.

There is no area limitation to taking the SAT. As long as there is an approved College Board center in your country/area, you don’t have to travel to America.

3- What costs does the SAT bring along?

Good thing you don’t have to travel too far to pass it, because you’re going to have to pay a little to book your seat.

It’s honestly such a pain to understand exactly how much you should pay, because there are some many ‘if’s that it’s much simpler when you see it all on the final bill. 

Inscription is $26.  The core test costs $49.50, if you want to pass the Essay too it’s $64.00, Subject Tests are worth from $22 to $26. Depending on your region, you will pay a fee, there is additional money to throw in if you want to send your score to more than the number of colleges they allow (four), you can get the right answers along with your score for $15, and the list goes on. 

It looks like a menu, and you can pick whatever you want. 

I paid around $115.

4- How to study for the SAT?

Money is invested. And in this case, you’re investing into your future.

So let’s invest time to justify investing money.

What you need to know about the people who write the test is that they’re told to be very, very, veeeery tricky. The goal is seeing how much you are able to focus in addition to evaluating your academic knowledge. (If you only want to prove the latter, you might want to check out the ACT.)

I hope you laughed at that good ol’ meme, because that is kind of what you will have to face: information twisted in a way that will make it hard to grasp. 

They tell you to read the question thrice, in SAT prep.

As you have to prepare yourself not only academically, but also adapt your brains to the question format, you should check out this amazing, life-saving, College Board supported, completely free Khan Academy program. 

Another helpful resource to break the ice with SAT is PrepScholar. It has been created by people who have scored the maximum. Pearls and nerds. You don’t have to purchase their program (thanks again, Khan), but their blog is full of hyper-complete information.

The College Board’s official site will give you hints, if you’re a good enough digger *anxiously raises hand*.

You can look for advice from people who have passed the SAT before you. You will find that on YouTube, Khan Academy, and blogs mostly. The tips and tricks are always worth it, so you can spend some time researching that as well.

It is not recommended to get enrolled in random SAT prep programs you find online, because most of the times the tests are not based on actual SAT questions. As a result, you might get the academic building but not the brain twisting.

For the SAT Essay, here’s the tea.

The most important step: DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. Make a study plan. Stick to it.

If you have the resources, use them. Khan Academy has helped raising my score from 1270 to 1440 in two months.

What a bomb of information, isn’t it? But it’s better than starting from scratch…

marlene was home alone. she woke up some time in the late afternoon to an empty house and a note from amelia saying the coffee on the counter had been charmed to stay hot for her and there were pupusas in the fridge. it wasn’t a new circumstance, really. marlene was used to being home alone and normally didn’t mind it a bit. however, that particular day she found herself sitting on her couch in virtual darkness, the only light filtered in through the open windows that had been left open from the night before. her feet were propped up on the table, cup of cold, untouched black coffee beside her ankle.

marlene had been staring at the ceiling far longer than she cared to admit when she finally grew restless. she left the coffee where it was and pulled herself to her feet, wandering sluggishly to her bedroom. she pushed open the door to her closet, a lengthy walk-in with a variety of sizes and a number of things she simply hadn’t been able to get rid of over the years. it was overstuffed, the clutter she hated in the spaces she frequented ended up in the wasteland of her clothes she could pretend didn’t exist.

she pulled on an over-sized sweatshirt that came down to her mid-thigh and had to bunch the sleeves up to allow her hands to show. she also put on a pair of ratty sweatpants that she was almost certain belonged to edgar. they hung low on her hips and there was a hole in one of the pockets. as she passed back through her room, she stopped in front of the full length mirror propped against the wall beside the closet door. her reflection actually caused her to laugh. it was an interesting feat that a girl who used to never let herself slip when it came to appearance was actually about to leave her house in something that swallowed her whole and very nearly gave her the visage of a homeless man.

marlene apparated directly from her room, appearing near the front gate of dedalus diggle’s home. she hadn’t been to any of the other houses yet. and she wasn’t even sure why she had come to this one, other than she no longer wanted to be alone and hoped someone, even diggle himself, was there to keep her company. she tapped the back of her wand against the gate and let herself in. thankfully, she heard voices. several, in fact, but the first actual person she saw was someone sitting alone in the kitchen. marlene found herself smiling sheepishly as she moved into the room. “hello, alice.”
