I couldn't believe it. My mother was just randomly walking down the street outside my house! She turned around, and looked surprise for only a moment before it was gone.

"You know where."

It was so sure that for a moment I could only stare at her, as I questioned everything I thought I knew, and then a snort came from me.

"I haven't the faintest idea where."

"You and I came here for the same reason, Ezio," she said.

Ah... "Moonwood."

"Hmph. Your scent is all over it by the way, you would do well to hide it better. Greg does not take to outsiders very kindly."

I snorted. "Greg has not been a problem so far."

"I suspect you might want to keep it that way." Her eyes, a steeled grey like my own, softened. "It is good to see you."

I said nothing, simply reached out and hugged her to me. She was shorter than me now, by quite the margin, yet somehow I still felt small again.

Once upon a long time ago ( like 3 years almost lol ), Lana McKinnon was my Morgyn and Ezio's mom. Don't ask, I'm pretty sure I was drunk when I decided that lmao I have partial face blindness anyway so I suppose that's my other reason. Anyways, in the original Eisenstern legacy, Ezio had a son, who transitioned to a daughter, and looked exactly like Tess / Aine. I decided then that their mother should probably be her instead, so here we are.

Halcyon Dreams

When you watch any artist for a long enough time, you start to notice patterns in their work—methods they reuse, ideas they return to, themes they fixate on. Watching Harris Bomberguy's plagiarism video made me think about that.

The obvious point of comparison is that Tommy Tallarico exposeé masquerading as a video about a funny oof, since that is the last video Mr. Bomberguy put on YouTube before the plagiarism video. But watching the ROBLOX_OOF.mp4 had reminded me of an even older hbomberguy video, Halcyon Dreams: The Legacy of Dragon's Lair.

The thesis of that video is similar to ROBLOX_OOF.mp4 and Plagiarism and You(Tube). It's about how people with money and fame can use those things to erase the contributions of others, claiming that they alone are responsible for the accomplishments of entire teams.

In the introduction and conclusion of Halcyon Dreams, Mr. Bomberguy mentions how Geoffrey of Monmouth claimed that Stonehenge was constructed by a single legendary wizard, rather than a bunch of skilled but otherwise unremarkable masons and architects.

He compares the way Don Bluth receives credit and recognition for projects that dozens of other animators and other artists worked on (and, in the case of Dragon's Lair, programmers and other technicians). He compares Bluth to Merlin, and it wouldn't be hard to apply that same analogy to Tommy Tallarico or any of the youtubers mentioned in the latest video.

But there's a crucial difference. OOF and Plagiarism are focused on Tallarico and the plagiarists, on Merlin, on showing the depth of the lies by these self-proclaimed wizards, focusing on the man behind the curtain. And Halcyon Dreams does talk about Don Bluth's wizardry for the first bit of the video, but then he pivots to someone else. One of the architects that helped him build Dragon's Henge.

Rick Dyer has similarities to the wizards. Like Tallarico, he named his company after himself. Like Bluth, he mortgaged his house to fund an ambitious creative project, after leaving a more famous company. But there are two crucial, interlinked differences between Dyer and the wizards. First is how few people have herd his name, second is how his creative project failed.

Most of Halcyon Dreams is about the Halcyon, and about Thayer's Quest and Kingdom: Shadoan, the remnants of Dyer's ambitious plan. It's the story of Rick Dyer, or part of it. Most of the video isn't focused on anything directly related to his thesis; Dyer's story isn't really a story about stolen valor. He just talks about Rick Dyer's creation, and just brings up the thesis to explain why he thinks it should be talked about.

OOF and Plagiarism are about people left in obscurity as others take credit for their work, in the sense that they talk about people taking credit for work done by obscure people. Halcyon Dreams is about that, in the sense that it talks about someone left in obscurity as someone took credit for (the most successful part of) his work.

If you want a palette cleanser after watching Plagiarism and You(Tube), I'd like to recommend Halcyon Dreams.

The Whitman Family

Aphrodite: Cosmetics Conglomerate

The Whitman family is founded from humble beginnings that burgeoned into a multinational empire, weaving a saga of ambition, beauty, and the enduring legacy of Whitman Cosmetics. The company's roots trace back to a small perfume shop run by first generation immigrants, eventually evolving into a Midtown Manhattan-based powerhouse resulting in Whitman Cosmetics being known as a a multinational cosmetics company, manufacturer and marketer of makeup, skincare, perfume, and hair care products. First Whitman (76) serves as the CEO of the company, unable to step down as she hasn’t found a “suitable replacement” yet - much to the chagrin of her husband, First Stirling (75), who stepped down as the CFO for Whitman Cosmetics two years ago and just wants to retire in peace.

Their eldest child, First Hawthorne (48) has ventured into the family business as a fragrance chemist for the company, focusing on aromachology and how fragrances can impact mood or feelings. She and her husband First Hawthorne (49) have started their own small family with two children. After their father retired, the role of CFO was handed down to the eldest son, First Whitman (46) who was an extremely able and capable candidate for the role, though many in the company took it as a bit of a slight since he had not worked for Whitman Cosmetics as long as other candidates in the running. Regardless, alongside his wife First Whitman (46) and four daughters, he has managed to perform well in the role while contending with the pressure to find a successor CEO when his mother retires.

The remaining siblings have all ventured around Whitman Cosmetics in one way or another: First Whitman (42) is a professional model and has long been the face of Whitman Cosmetics, but finds himself grappling with the inevitable challenge of aging in an industry fixated on youth. Meanwhile, First Whitman (37) is the Chief Marketing Officer for the company and is trying to usher in a new generation of marketing strategies by collaborating with his younger brother First Whitman (35), a social media influencer and socialite that is always attending the classiest of affairs in New York City.

To aid in gaining the attention of younger generations are the twin daughters, First Whitman (33) and First Whitman (33). Using their family name and their own unique skills in the cosmetic industry, they have leveraged their family name and resources to establish a private boutique in Manhattan where they work as a makeup artist and hairstylist respectively, providing high end clientele with everything they might need in order to look their best. They have recently started to collaborate with First Cheng (39), hoping to combine her talents as a fashion designer to create an entire creative fashion Haus in the heart of New York City and take their family reputations and wealth to new heights.

Sun Ra Arkestra - Living Sky - the new album is out TODAY on Omni Sound

For more than two decades, the disciple that has most visibly carried on Sun Ra Arkestra’s legacy and sound is their musical director, alto saxophonist Marshall Allen, the iconic fire breather and life force that restored the Arkestra’s vitality in the massive vacuum left by Ra and John Gilmore’s death in the ‘90s. Allen turned 98 in 2022 and, as evidenced by Living Sky, his influence and leadership remain undiminished. Marking the Arkestra’s first new recording since their 2021 Grammy-nominated album Swirling, Living Sky was recorded on June 15, 2021 at Rittenhouse SoundWorks in Philadelphia and features a total of nineteen musicians, including a strings section. Will Byers’ neck is tingling again. The Stranger Things writers’ room for season 5 officially kicked off in August 2022 — and the Duffer Brothers have filled in Noah Schnapp on what’s to come.

“There will definitely be another center point for Will in season 5 and I think it’s really exciting and I’m definitely so excited to see what they have in store,” Schnapp, 18, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting his company TBH (To Be Honest).

“They won’t tell me specifics, but they were like, ‘You just wait. You will be very happy and excited. So sit tight,'” he continued. “I think the story opened and started with Will, and I think ending it with him and circling back on that is a nice way for them to wrap it up.”

Schnapp’s comments mirror what creators Matt and Ross Duffer hinted at in late summer 2022. “Will’s going to be a big part and focus, is really all I can say of season 5, in his journey,” Matt told Collider at the time. “We’re starting to see his coming of age, really. Which has been challenging for a number of reasons, some of which are supernatural. But you’re starting to see him come into his own.”

Ross added: “[It’s] setting up us coming full circle back to season 1. I think you’ll see that with a couple of the character arcs, not just with Will. But also with Steve [Joe Keery] and Nancy [Natalia Dyer], and her relationship with Jonathan [Charlie Heaton] where things are not fully resolved. The characters have maybe made steps, like in the case of Will, but that journey isn’t over yet. All of that is going to play a huge role as we try to wrap this thing up next season.”

“Will is like my baby and I kind of grew up with him,” Schnapp told Us, looking back at all he’s experienced. “I think — not even specifically with Will, but with the show — I’m just going to miss kind of that family that we’ve built and the connections on set. I’ve gone back to that place for the past 10 years now, and they’ve watched me grow up and it’s definitely going to be sad when I have to permanently say goodbye and know I’m not going to be walking back on that set. But I’m definitely going to make an effort to work on other projects with the cast and crew in the future. And I think the legacy of Stranger Things will live on forever.”

That includes his onscreen mom Joyce Byers, played by ’80s icon Winona Ryder. “It’s amazing. She’s like a mentor for me and I would definitely call her a second mother,” Schnapp gushed. “I think she’s given me great advice because she was also a child actor and [she’s] definitely always looking out for everyone on set. And she is so supportive and I’m really lucky to have her on set. She will always be welcoming and if I ever need acting tips or I’m nervous for a scene, she’ll say, ‘Come into my trailer, we can chat and figure this out together.’ She definitely helps calm my nerves and she’s a great person to work with.”

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag, because I want to do it

Number of books read so far in 2022: 58 (9 of which are nonfiction)

Favorite book so far: Boy Parts by Eliza Clark and Alone With You In The Ether by Olivie Blake

Best sequel so far: The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Recent 2022 release you want to read but haven't as yet: This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi, Gallant by Victoria Schwab, and All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir

Most anticipated release for the second half of 2022: Babel by RF Kuang and The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake, definitely.

Biggest disappointment so far: I genuinely thought that HOSAB would be good since I enjoyed so many aspects of HOEAB even though I don’t stan SJM for multiple reasons, and so I was disappointed when all I got was fanfiction, ridiculous worldbuilding, and poor writing.

Biggest surprise so far: Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman. Genuinely thought it was gonna be bad but the writing was surprisingly beautiful and poignant and the book was really ambient and visceral.

Favorite new author (debut, or new to you): Definitely Uzma Jalaluddin, Ava Reid, and Eliza Clark.

Newest fictional crush: Grayson Hawthorne from The Inheritance Games. He's the kind of man I hope I never meet IRL because I'd literally dismantle every feminist idea I possess just for him.

Newest favorite character: Aldo from AWYITE because we share the same exact headspace. Mara Dyer from the Mara Dyer trilogy because she's a bad bitch. Ayesha and Khalid from Ayesha At Last because they're sweet and wholesome and I adore the Muslim rep in that book so much, it's like a big hug.

Book that made you cry: From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata came closest to making me cry. I just relate to Jasmine Santos on the deepest level bro.

Book that made you happy: Ayesha At Last because it’s a beautiful Muslim romcom with excellent rep and writing, plus, it’s a Jane Austen retelling. Also, The Secret History by Donna tartt, because I realized during my recent reread just how funny and satirical it is.

Most beautiful book you acquired so far: Finally got my hardback of the traditionally-published The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake a couple of months ago and holding that baby was just the best feeling.

Books you need to read before 2022 is up: Foul Lady Fortune, Babel, The Atlas Paradox, All My Rage, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Carrie Soto Is Back, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, The Final Gambit, A Certain Hunger, Eileen, The 1619 Project
