A/N - Back with some more Ruhn while I figure out the next part of my Eris Vanserra fic! Enjoy!❤️
T/W - Talk of injury, captivity and torture! Please keep yourselves safe while reading! ❤️
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ruhn's body was breaking, he wasn't sure how many more of these sessions with Pollux and Lidia he could take. Lidia who he had come to save, to protect, Lidia who had betrayed him in the end. Lidia who he could still feel in his mind, screaming for him. Lidia who made him feel alive, just like you did. What was worse is that his mind was breaking, he was going insane, he'd see you when you weren't supposed to be there, like a ghost, appearing in his worst moments, when the pain was too much and his body was about to give out or when his mind was about to shatter but you were safe, with his brothers, protected. Dec always had a plan, he'd have gotten you all out safely and Flynn was a warrior who would've fought to the end to keep all of you safe. Not to mention the unofficial Alpha and the Mer that adored you as well, no, no one would touch you, they'd have to get through his friends first.
You were powerful, he knew that much, it was the reason the Witches were so scared of you. The reason they'd kept you locked away for so much of your life. The reason they kept the nullifying bracelets on your arms. He could still hear you crying, screaming in pain as he held you while Dec removed them as carefully as he could. He could still see the dazzling smile on your face as Ithan ran barefoot with you through the forest and when Tharion took you into the water for the first time as you clung onto the Mer's neck for dear life. The gasp that escaped you when you sat with him and let him play you all his favourite songs, how you'd pulled him to his feet and danced with him. Your shy smile as you took in all the books in his room, he'd told you to take your pick and he often found you sitting on his bedroom floor reading, worried about taking them out of his room, he told you that you could take them and read them wherever you wanted. How you'd looked at him like he'd hung the stars for you. He supposed in your world, he had, coming to get you at Hypaxia's request, her second sister, her youngest sister who had been kept in captivity, she knew the other Witches would never accept you, so in came Ruhn, like a knight in shining armor to free you.
It had taken you a while to adjust to living in the house with them, you'd jump at loud noises and look ashamed if one of them found you eating despite the fact Ruhn and Flynn had filled the cupboards for you. You were skeletal when you first started living with them so there was always food around. You didn't speak, you still didn't at least not out loud. Dec was the first to break through to you, handing you a phone and sitting there explaining how to use it, telling you if you didn't want to speak then that was fine, but if you ever needed anything to click messages, pick which one of them you wanted and to type out what you needed. You smiled at him softly and he left you to your book, moving back over to the other sofa. He'd received a text 10 minutes later. "Thank you, Declan." He beamed and texted you back, if this is how you wanted to communicate, he'd go along with it. "You're welcome."
Ruhn received a text 3 days later, he'd always been able to communicate with you without words, without speaking into your mind, he'd tried it once and it had terrified you, hearing his voice in your head, but he just knew with you and you just knew with him, he couldn't quite believe the bond the two of you had built without you saying one word to him. It was the middle of the night, he'd just gotten home from Aux duty returning in the early hours and leaving again a few hours after as had become his routine as of late and he was fully expecting you to be asleep, as you usually were at this time when he returned home. He'd just stepped into his room, peeling his shirt from his body and unbuckling his belt to head straight into the shower after his long day when his phone buzzed on his night stand where he'd left it. "I miss you." Was all it said, he smiled slightly, it had made him feel good to know he was on your mind as much as you were on his. He typed a quick response. "Why are you still awake? I miss you too." Your reply came instantly "Waiting for you." Ruhn had never showered so quickly in his life. He was drying his hair with a towel when you appeared in his doorway, two mugs of hot chocolate in your hands, smiling crookedly at him. Gods he loved that smile, he stood and approached you, taking the mugs out of your hands and ushering you into the room, closing the door behind you, he knew this was your favourite place to be, that you felt safest in his room, he'd never asked why, not wanting to push you away, he'd never admit it, but those nights when he came home and you were asleep in his bed, those nights were his favourite.
Then he met Agent Daybright & everything changed.
The chair he was tied to toppled as Lidia Cervos delivered a nasty kick to his chest, something crunched under her foot, ribs most likely and Ruhn turned his head to the side and spat out the blood that filled his mouth. He wanted to die, he was ready to die. He'd taken more than enough, his body weak and broken, and he was sure his mind was broken beyond repair as you flickered into his cell. He knew he was going insane when you spoke. "Ruhn." His name, he'd never heard you say it and he knew in that moment that you'd ruined him. His name would never sound as good coming from another. "Ruhn, I'm here." You said gently, your voice was like a melody as you knelt in front of him, tears lining your eyes. "You aren't real." He forced the words out. "I am, I'm here with you, I'm astral projecting." He looked at you for a second before saying. "Witches can't do that without a familiar that comes with them." You brushed his hair out of his face and hauled his chair upright, undoing the bindings at his wrists and feet. "Ithan's a wolf." It clicked in his brain then. "Ithan's wolf is your familiar?" You nodded as the wolf, as Ithan, entered the cell as well and sat by the door. "We've been practicing, I know you've seen me before, they're coming, Ruhn. Flynn, Dec and Tharion are coming for you. Ithan and I will stay until they get here." He couldn't quite believe the words coming out of your mouth. "Ithan gave up the opportunity to be an alpha to be your familiar?" You smiled his favourite smile. "Ithan did it for you, Ruhn. You saved him while he was drowning, so he's helping to save you, he's a shifter so he's not bound to me like normal familiars are, but his wolf responds to me as well as to him now."
Ruhn reached for you, despite the pain it caused him to do so and his hand went straight through you. "Your nose is bleeding." He said and you touched your nose. "I've been here a bit too long, used too much power to touch you and to undo your binds." He opened his mouth to tell you to go but you beat him to it. "I'll go when they get to you, not a minute before, last time I left you ran off to save a girl and got caught." He closed his eyes as the memories played in his mind, the broken look on your face when he told you about her, his plans to meet her at the ball he'd promised to take you too, that Bryce had taken you shopping and bought you a dress to wear for. You didn't go to the ball, locking yourself in your room instead. He could still see the disappointment in his sister's face when she sighed and said. "She picked that dress for you Ruhn." He didn't understand then, he did now as he watched you bleed to stay with him. He watched you look around the cell, he knew Lidia was an uncomfortable subject for you, he'd pushed you away due to whatever it was he had with her. It was about to be made worse. "Where is she by the way, so I can tell the others so they can get her out as well?" Ruhn shook his head. "She's The Hind, she's the one that did this to me." Your mouth fell open. "My sister. My sister was who you were with in your mind? She did this to you?" He watched as your fists clenched and nodded weakly. "We still need to get her out, don't we?" Your voice cracking, he nodded again.
He could hear them now, his brothers coming down the hall for him. "Y/N?" He said and you met his eyes. "Don't ever stop speaking to me?" You smiled softly and nodded as Ithan took up a defensive stance at the door. Dec was the first through the cell door. "Easy pup, it's us." He relaxed and the wolf trotted to your side. "See you at home, Ruhn." The others faltered at your voice, just for a second and then you were gone, Ithan going with you as his brothers descended on him to get him out of the hell he'd been living for the last few weeks, or months, he wasn't sure.
It felt like a lifetime before they arrived at a house that Ruhn didn't recognise, Cormac had organised a safehouse in the middle of nowhere he'd learned, he'd also learned his cousin had died for Bryce, died to help his sister. He didn't dwell on the loss for too long, he couldn't because there you were, sprinting out of the front door and straight at him. His breath caught as he saw the look on your face, one he hadn't seen since he'd told you about Day. He couldn't brace his body for the impact, he didn't have the strength, but Flynn was there, catching you both before you toppled the floor. He was ready for the pain though, he'd take it if it meant you let him back in. He hissed in pain as you collided with him and tried to pull back instantly realising you'd hurt him, he didn't allow it, wrapping his tattooed arms around you like a vice, keeping you close to his body, inhaling your scent. "Hello, Little Witch." He murmured into your hair, his voice weak and laced with pain. "Hello, Princeling." You murmured back into his chest. He refused to let you go, walking you into the house, still wrapped in his arms, he'd have picked you up if he had the strength but he didn't, so instead you walked with him, clumsily, falling over his feet. He stilled as he entered the house and came face to face with Lidia. His arms dropped from around you immediately. "She led me out." Lidia said, approaching the two of you. "I'm so sorry, Night."
"We need a healer." Dec said quietly once they had situated Ruhn on the sofa, you had said no more words since your greeting to him, opting to stay by the archway into the living room. "I can do it." Every head in the room swiveled towards you. "She talks!" Flynn cheered as Dec elbowed him in the ribs. "You're weak from the projecting." Ithan said. "You were there for too long, pushed too hard." You cringed at him ratting you out and you watched Ruhn tense. "I can do it." You said again. "No." Your head snapped to Ruhn. "I can do it, let me do it." It was Lidia who spoke next. "Do it, heal him." She placed a hand on Ruhn's damaged face. "Please Ruhn." He nodded.
Of course he'd do it for her you thought as you pushed off the archway. "We need space, everyone out, Dec, you stay, you can help." Dec nodded as the others left to the kitchen. Lidia didn't move towards the kitchen, instead she sat next to him on the sofa and began removing his shirt. It made you sick. She'd done this before and you knew it. It may have broken you but Ruhn had always been honest with you. Telling you about her before his friends. You don't know what you had expected when your feelings developed for him, for him to have them back? To fall for a witch who was too strong for her own people, who couldn't control her own power? Who had suffered so much neglect that she chose not to speak anymore? The only reason you were speaking now was for him, once healed you'd go back to your silence.
You pushed those thoughts out of your head and focused on the job at hand, his skin was mottled, purples, reds and yellows covered almost every inch of him and you couldn't help yourself as you snapped at the blonde sitting next to him. "Are you proud of yourself?" She looked shocked. "Y/N" Ruhn croaked out, a slight tinge of warning in his tone but you continued anyways, healing as you went. "All you do is destroy things, break things, look at what you've done to him!" You could feel your power thrumming in your veins. Ruhn's hand grabbed your arm, stopping your movement, your eyes met his momentarily, warnings swam in his gaze. "And still he defends you! You must be really good on your back." That was the final straw. "Enough!" Ruhn's voice was clear now, even though it took everything left in him to make it so. "Dec can finish healing me Y/N. Go." He pulled you back as you went to leave. "Don't ever speak to her like that again. I won't hesitate to send you back to the Witches."
You span on your heel and left the same way the others did, you didn't stop in the kitchen where they were, you carried on through the back door and ran, you made it halfway down the huge lawn of the safehouse before you crashed to your knees and screamed, fists hitting the ground and it split from the impact of your power. Thunder crashed and rain poured, wind whipped around you in a fury and still you screamed, screamed until your throat was hoarse and you could scream no more. Only the storm remained as you dragged yourself to your feet, you were exhausted and there they all were, watching from the window. Ruhn leaning on Lidia for support, her leaning into him for comfort, you watched as Ithan pulled his arm out of Flynn's grip and ran at you, shifting as he went. You couldn't go back into the house, not yet, not while they were awake, not while Ruhn was looking at you like saving you was a big mistake. Thankfully the rain hid your tears. You turned away from them, from your friends and ran despite the exhaustion towards the forest that loomed at the edge of the garden. You could hear Ithan behind you and you heard Lidia say "Leave her Ruhn, the wolf has got her."
You ran until your legs gave out and you crashed to the forest floor, you didn't even attempt to save yourself, to put your hands out to soften the fall, you just let yourself hit the floor. You sobbed as you pulled your knees into your chest. Ithan was tall as a male, big even, as a wolf he was massive. He curled his wolf form around you as best he could, trying to bring you any ounce of comfort he could and you sobbed into his fur. Ruhn's voice floated into your head. "Come back." You ignored him. "Y/N, come back to the house." You ignored him again. "You said you wouldn't stop speaking to me." He tried again, sounding more irritated with each attempt. "I can't." You finally answered, even in your mind your voice sounded pathetic and you could've sworn he sighed into your mind. "Can't speak to me or come back?" You tried your best to stop your voice from breaking but it did anyway as you replied. "I don't want to talk anymore. It was better when I was silent. I can't come back, not when you looked at me like you should've left me with the Witches." There was silence for a minute and his voice was gentle now. "Please come home, I need you with me. I need someone I know is real." You couldn't keep the sound of your sobs out of your mind anymore and they flowed into Ruhn's head like a river as you croaked a reply. "You have Lidia. I got her out for you." And then pushed him out of your head before he could respond.
How you'd fallen asleep on the forest floor in the middle of a storm you'd never know, you had a sneaking suspicion your body had just given out on you. You woke as someone pulled you into their arms. Your eyes shot open and Tharion's eyes studied you. "Oh little one, what have you done to yourself?" He asked, a thumb brushing along the grazes on your face from where you'd hit the floor. "He hates me." You whimpered. "Who?" He asked, genuine confusion filling his voice. "Ruhn, he wishes he never saved me." Tears spilled down your cheeks again. "Ruhn's worried about you, little one, we all are." You shook your head. "He hates me, he's going to send me back to them, he's got the sister he wants now." You whimpered again. You were still exhausted, so you didn't fight, you just let the Mer carry you back to the house, you feigned sleep, burying your head into Tharion's neck.
"Leave it, Ruhn, not now." Tharion's voice was full of warning. "Is she okay?" You heard the prince ask. "She ran through the woods barefoot, she exhausted her power to help you and then pushed past that when she lost it, she's got grazes all over her face and arms and thinks you hate her, she thinks you'll give her back to the witches, what do you think?" Ruhn didn't respond and you knew he was following Tharion up the stairs, they both stopped again and you felt a kiss be placed on the back of your head. "I'll fix this, Little Witch." Ruhn said into your hair and you watched over Tharion's shoulder as he walked you towards your room, Ruhn entered his own, Lidia stood in one of his t-shirts, wrapping her arms around him and you watched him relax in her embrace. Your eyes met Ithan's still in his wolf form and you could've sworn the wolf looked sad for you.
You'd convinced your two fierce protectors to leave you, to let you be alone, sleep was not coming easily even though exhaustion was eating away at you. You sighed and checked your phone and found 3 messages. The first and second from when you ran, the third from 5 minutes ago.
Tristan Flynn: Screw him, Dec and I will always love you.
Declan Emmett: I'm here for you, Y/N. We all are. Flynn and I will always love you.
Ruhn Danaan: I fucked up. I know I fucked up. I'm fucked up. You were there when I was ready to break, you kept me fighting. I don't deserve something as good and as innocent as you, my sweet little witch but I'm too selfish to give you up. Even after I said those despicable words to you tonight I asked you to come back, told you that I needed you after I broke you not even an hour before in defense of your sister. I know you saw her in my room, you forget you've slept in my bed, I know how you breathe when you truly are asleep, she's not here, she got changed in here and found one of the spare rooms to claim as her own. I wish I could explain what it was like down there, why Lidia did what she did to me and why I defended her like I did, but it isn't a story for me alone to tell. I'm so sorry for what I said to you. I'd never send you back, never. There's nothing you could ever do to make me want you anywhere other than at my side. I hope in time I can earn your forgiveness but I fully expect you to make me earn it. Until then, please know, I belong to no one but you.
Tears were falling down your cheeks again but you had to see she wasn't there for yourself, you smoothed Ithan's shirt that you had decided to sleep in instead of one of Ruhn's unable to face it, and padded as quietly as you could down the hallway, phone in hand to his room and pushed the door open. His head shot up and his eyes met yours. His bruises still made you cringe, they covered his face, his neck, his chest and you were sure even further. He said nothing, he stayed where he was, sat on the edge of his bed, waiting for you to say anything. You raised your phone, making your intent clear as his right arm moved to search the bed for his, he didn't once stop looking at you.
You: Do you really mean that?
Ruhn Danaan: Yes. I'm yours. I have been since the first time I found you in my bed, wearing my t-shirt, clutching another to your chest. Your hair all over my pillows like a halo. I was too blind to see it then.
Ruhn Danaan sent an image.
It was you, fast asleep in his bed, exactly as he'd described.
Ruhn Danaan: My beautiful, sweet, clever, brilliant, powerful, funny little witch. I was done for when you said my name for the first time. I'll earn your voice again. I'll earn your forgiveness and I'll give you everything. You'll never be caged again.
You threw yourself at him, arms wrapping around his neck as he pulled you with him as he fell back onto the bed. Your head finding a home in between his shoulder and jaw. His hands running soothingly up and down your back. He broke the silence a while later. "Will you stay with me?" He asked gently and you nodded, rolling off of him to climb into to bed as he grasped your wrist. "Wear one of mine?" He murmured as he pulled at Ithan's shirt, you smirked as he said. "I don't want you covered in another males scent while in my bed."

"I bought this for you, it's your favorite color" for Tía Victoria and anyone/ everyone, the chat was inspiring lol
This is 100% inspired by @jmrothwell and her amazing Yarn Store Au post, and the equally gorgeous moodboard she just conjured up for it.
When Victoria Alvarez twisted her ankle and had to give up Pilates for a bit, she found herself in need of a hobby. For some reason she decided to take up knitting, despite having no idea how to do so. She tried on her own for a bit, even had Julie queue up a few videos, but even then she couldn't get the hang of it, and decided maybe the employees at the local yarn store might have some tips for her.
"So how was the yarn store?' Julie asked when she came back, scrubbing at the dishes since it was her turn to do them.
"Very helpful actually!" Victoria exclaimed. "I learned a lot, Reggie was really patient with me, and he taught me a few tips."
Flynn snickered. "Reggie."
"It's his name! He was very nice and accommodating," Victoria insisted. "He can't help what his name is Flynnigan."
That shut Flynn up, even as Julie tittered at her girlfriend's comeuppance. "Well I'm glad you got the hang of it tia, you'll have to knit us something when you get good."
"You're more than welcome to take it up yourself," Victoria offered. "I can teach you or bring you to the store yourselves."
"Maybe," Julie mused. "I would like to make one of those cat ear hats."
"As long as you don't knit me a sweater, we're golden," Flynn replied. "I heard there's some sort of curse with sweaters."
"I'll ask Reggie next time I go back," Victoria said with a wink. "Can't have you girls cursed after all."
According to Reggie, apparently there was a curse, and cautioned them against making a significant other a sweater if they wanted to stay together. At least that was what Tia reported after her next visit to the yarn store, returning back with a small dishcloth for each girl, and a half finished scarf.
A few weeks later, Julie and Flynn were hanging around the Molina household once more when Victoria came in again, handing them each a small bag from the yarn store. "I bought this for you, it's your favorite color," she said as she handed them over. Inside each was a set of knitting needles, and a skein of yarn; purple for Julie and a bright orange for Flynn. "I told Reggie all about you, I think you two should meet him."
Flynn and Julie exchanged looks, neither of them had any interest in meeting whatever middle aged guy who worked at a yarn store. "Gee thanks tia," Julie said, though her voice was less than genuine. She did break out the yarn and started figuring out how to begin while Flynn did some hand knitting, being less adept with the needles.
Neither one of them thought about Reggie any more after that. Well not until Tia offered to bring them to the mall later as long as they accompanied her on a few errands first. "I'll even spot you lunch money," she enticed, so the girls agreed.
Sure errands weren't exactly exciting, but it meant they didn't have to take the bus, or worse, bike, and Julie genuinely did like spending time with her aunt. Every so often she would tell them stories of her time in Puerto Rico, of trouble she and Rose got into, her various jobs before ending up as a social worker.
"Last stop is the yarn store!" Tia exclaimed as she parked in front. "Do you girls want to come in?"
They shrugged and decided why not. Julie hadn't really gotten the hang of knitting, but Flynn turned out to be pretty good at the hand knitting thing, having made them both cute headbands which they were sporting from the yarn Victoria had bought them.
Inside smelled a little musty, and there was wall to wall yarn. Plus another wall full of various needles, as well as crochet hooks and other crafty supplies. "It's kinda underwhelming," Flynn commented.
"What were you expecting to see the sheep the yarn came from?" Julie snarked.
Flynn shrugged. "I mean, that would be way cooler than... this."
"It's not the most glamorous place, it's true."
The girls turned around to find a guy their own age standing there. A very very cute guy, with dark swoopy hair, a bevvy of golden freckles across his face, and jade green eyes. He had a faint blush to his cheeks as he sent them both a crooked grin. The girls clutched at each other's hands-woof that smile could make your heart go double time. And well, they had an agreement if they ever found a third...
"How can I help you beautiful ladies today? I'm Reggie by the way."
"Wait, you're Reggie?" Flynn shrieked.
He chuckled and ruffled his hair in the back. "Yeah, Reginald Peters, at your service." At that he gave a mock bow. "My mom was an Elton John fan, so blame him."
"I'm Julie, and this is Flynn. We're here with my aunt Victoria?"
"Oh Tia!" Reggie exclaimed, looking around for the woman who was standing back, looking a little smug as she took them in. "These are the girls you told me asked about the sweater curse?"
"Yes, though I doubt either one of them are making a sweater any time soon," Tia replied. "Plus LA weather and sweaters don't really mix."
Reggie shrugged at that. "I mean I only learned how to knit to make my boyfriend Luke beanies that he wears almost constantly. But he's also part Canadian, so who knows?"
"Reg!" came a voice from the door. "Sunshine of my life!"
"Back here Luke!"
At that another boy came in. A boy that had every bit of saliva in Julie's mouth dry up. From his sculpted arms to his boyish grin, to the way he gave her the once over before leaning in to peck Reggie's cheek. Then whispered in his ear, something that made Reggie blush and glance quickly at both Julie and Flynn.
Flynn who was shooting Julie a knowing look, and grinning. Hey, whatever made her girl happy, Flynn was here for. Plus given Luke was sporting a Pride pin and a Rush shirt, she felt they would get along just fine.
Victoria just stood back and took the teenagers all in and smirked. She knew it was a good idea to bring the girls here. Sure it looked like there may be a few shifts in the status quo between these two couples, but she knew it would all work out for the best.
She also wondered what Luke and Reggie's favourite colours were so she could add to the scarves she was knitting-she had a feeling she would need to know come Christmas.
Turns out she was right. But then again, she always was.

Sonic Frontiers review (PS5)
Sonic Frontiers may not be the most mindblowingly amazing game this year, but it is still, surprisingly, quite good. The environments are vast and beautiful, the combat is fun and can mostly be avoided if you're not feeling up to it, the story is a great mystery you're piecing together with every tidbit you're given. The voice cast is expressive, and these characters are the best they've been in years. Knuckles is no longer an idiot but instead someone who trusts Sonic as a rival and friend, and someone who is also knowledgeable about ruins and such. Tails is no longer useless unless Sonic's around but someone who is working through his self-doubt to become a better more independent person. Amy's about the same, but she hasn't had as much issue with writing in past games as the others.
There are issues, sure. Pop-in is definitely quite prevalent, and some encounters are a pain to deal with, especially on the last island where I've actively avoided several particularly annoying foes. Another issue, though it's more of a nitpick, is leveling via the Elder Koco. You have to manually pick an option one by one, and the menu here on my PS5 was also laggy, requiring around a second after it showed up to move down and select the option once more to keep leveling my Rings or Speed. The Hermit Koco just levels both Attack and Defense as much as he can at once depending on how many of those you have on you, but the Elder Koco is a menuing nightmare, especially due to the minor lag on his menu.
Aside from those issues, the music is pretty good. Exploration themes are toned down but still pretty good while basic battle themes are energetic. The Titan battle themes are all amazing, standing toe to toe with past greats such as Live & Learn quite easily.
And then there's the Cyber Space stages. I'm mentioning these separately because the game treats them separately. Your upgrades in the rest of the game don't transfer over and the physics even feel different here. The majority of them are based on layouts from past 3D Sonic titles, which is a nice homage. There's only 4 stage themes though, and 3 are ones Sonic Team has been using as a crutch for a decade now (being Green Hill, Chemical Plant, and Sky Sanctuary). These aren't that bad to go through but they even feel different to control. A fun distraction that you need to go through a few of for progression purposes, but they still feel disconnected from the design philosophies of the main game.
There's also fishing. Big's here for the first time in a long time, and he's happy to just let Sonic vibe and fish. The music here is relaxing, the gameplay for fishing is simple (select where to throw, hit the button when there's a bite, then time another press or two when the small ring is inside the larger ring). You can get a lot of items here, and it's far more connected to the main game than Cyber Space is. Each catch nets your tokens. You can get the Kocos you'd turn into the Elder Koco, seeds for Power and Defense, Memory Tokens for that Island's trapped character, and even Skill Points and Rings. There's also 24 Egg Memos to collect, which are voiced bits of lore by Eggman that give fun lore insights or tidbits about how he feels about other characters.
Speaking of story, this isn't quite a dark one but it is, as they've been saying, quite melancholy. Ian Flynn, known for his work on the comics, brings a masterful touch to this one. The characters are as well-written here as they are in the comics, and I already touched on how Knuckles and Tails really benefitted from it. Eggman feels a lot less one-dimensional villain, and Sage is a great addition. I quite enjoyed hunting down the side stories to get more tidbits about how the characters feel or things about the ruins, and even information on a greater backstory that forms the backbone of the entire plotline. There's also a lot of references to past games, which creates a great continuity that wasn't quite there before and is quite welcome. The only place the plot suffers is in the ending, which feels quite sudden and a bit rushed honestly, though I blame Sonic Team on that far more than Flynn.
I will note that there are three difficulty settings, and none of them affect the storyline. The only notable difference is Hard Mode grants you an extended (and difficult) final boss fight, and an alternate credits theme, but aside from that the ending plays out the same regardless of what difficulty you were on. That being said, Frontiers is certainly a game that lets you play how you want to. From an extensive suite of customization and accessibility options to an abundance of tokens to collect (far more than you need to max out your stats and get everything), Frontiers is a game that really shows a great start to the Open Zone formula Sonic Team wants to focus on. I'm glad they're listening to feedback because if this is the direction Sonic's going, then I'm excited to see how they improve upon this already solid base. With all this in mind, I'm giving it an 8/10.

(Yes Flynn is voiced by Patrick Warburton you're welcome-)
YES I know I love it!
I personally adore Warburton's classic himbo voice! And I've wanted him to play a bad guy since the first time I heard it!

You sighed looking at your son, he was progressing slower than his brother. Flynn was crawling around a bunch while Felix was doing a slow army crawl that looked like he was slithering on the floor. You knew your sons wouldn't be at the same pace. You couldn't expect them to. They're two different people after all. You were just excited.
Felix giggled and crawled toward you in his usual snake like fashion. You smiled lifting him on your lap.
"Okay, Sweet-pea. Scott and Steve are about to land, so I'll go pick them do you need anything?" Chris asked smiling.
"Nope, I don't think so."
———
"Felix you can do it. Come on baby." You cooed not noticing Steve and Scott we're at your doorway. They wanted to say hi to you since you hadn't come out they assumed you were busy. Which is correct.
"Good job!" You exclaimed as Felix got on his hands and knees crawling toward Flynn.
"I wonder her reaction when they start walking." Scott whispered chuckling.
"What? Oh! Hi Uncle Scott. Hi Steve." You smiled
"Hey kid."
"Which one is that?" Scott asked sitting next to you.
"That one of Felix, that one is Flynn." You explained smiling.
"Ah.."
———
You sighed, mother's day. What used to be a fun holiday where you and your mom would go out for breakfast and spend the day together is now a day of you realizing you'll never be able to get back to that point. No matter how hard you try to get that relationship back with your mom it won't be the same. This is the second mother's day you aren't spending with her. This time you're a mom though so at lead the day is about you. You woke up earlier the boys weren't around and neither was your dad, you were left with a note, in Flynn's crib.
"Ran to the store, brought Flynn and Felix so you could sleep in, Love dad"
So now you're just chilling, Scott and Steve were still sleeping. At least you think so, you didn't bother checking. Later today you knew that everyone was heading to your grandma's for dinner but for now you relished in the time you have away from the twins. You took a shower, cleaned your room, washed yours and your sons' clothes, and cleaned the boys' toys up. Then you did your school courses. Now that all of that was done you were watching your favorite show. You called your dad to check on them and he said they were fine and on their way home. So it was a waiting game.
"Hey Kid where's the babies?" Scott asked walking into the kitchen where you happened to be making yourself lunch.
"With dad." You shrugged, he nodded taking a chip from your plate. "Hey!" You glared at your uncle. He just laughed. "Rude."
"I'm home!" Chris shouted walking in. A baby carrier in either hand. You smiled immediately going to grab your babies. "Woah don't even say hi to your old man." He scoffed.
"Hi old man." You smirked.
"Not what I meant." He chuckled.
"Okay. Why did you take Flynn and Felix to the store?" You asked him as you adjusting the babies on your hips.
"So you could sleep of course. Also here they got you a present." He held up a gift bag.
"Dad. They're 7 months old they can't get me a present." You rolled your eyes putting them in their high chairs before taking the bag. "Thank you." You said smiling looking at the sign.
"Your welcome mommy." Chris did a baby voice as he pretended to be Flynn. Scott laughed at his older brother with you.
"Dad you're weird." You chuckled. "I love you."
"Love you two bubba.".
The day flew by now you were at your grandma's house. Just laughing and enjoying life. She was holding your sons practically the whole night other than when you took them to feed or change them.
You had barely thought about your mom the whole day. So Chris would call that a success.

TO THE MOON AND BACK // TETSUROU KUROO
word count: 1.3k+
song used: i see the light by mandy moore, zachary levi
amihan’s note: big brain time, this is kinda connected with the kenma fic, it's not really a necessity to this fic but yeah thought i would connect the two and two together, happy reading!
masterlist: 300 milestone
kuroo + high school sweethearts + "here’s my jacket"
long-time boyfriend!kuroo x fem!reader
Tumblr media
“how did you two meet?” lev asks in curiosity, leaning on his palms while looking at the two of you.
the group groans in chorus, “what?” the tall first-year asks, “did i say something wrong?” he innocently asks.
“you’ve already opened the topic,” morisuke says while pinching his side, kuroo smiles widely and puts his arm around you, pulling you closer to him.
you hide your face behind your hands and groan loudly. “why do you have to ask lev?” you say while cringing on the inside.
“oh come on, it’s a fairy tale like story. you we’re my damsel in distress, my queen” he emphasizes the endearment with a teasing tone.
he brings up his free hand gesturing to nothingness, “tangled got nothing on us,” he says with all confidence and looks back at their tall middle blocker.
“once upon a time,” he baby talks, you push kuroo’s face away.
“stop that,” you grumble, heat comes rushing up your face. kuroo chuckles and rests his arm around you, obliging your request.
“okay, this is how i met y/n. you better listen closely or else you’ll miss something important” he says while pointing at lev, who in return, nods enthusiastically.
“say, would you be interested in going on a blind date? i know this girl,” morisuke offers with a soft smile. kuroo takes a sharp breath, “oh, i don’t know. kinda busy with being a good captain,” he says with a shrug which earn him a smack at the back of his head.
morisuke rolls his eyes and turns on his heel, “be ready tomorrow, i’ll text you the time and place” with that said, the libero leaves the middle blocker and doesn't wait for an answer.
“hey, isn’t that illegal?! i haven’t given you my consent!” kuroo shouts after him.
“what are you saying, yakkun?!” kuroo exclaims on his phone, “i said i’ll give you the time and place, i didn’t say anything about setting all of it for you,” he nonchalantly replies.
“what do i do then-” kuroo's complaints get interrupted by a tap on his shoulder.
he turns around and sees you, “am i late?” you sheepishly smile at him. one thing kuroo hates more than anything is when people don’t show up on time but i guess, for you he can work on that.
you slightly tilt your head to the side, kuroo who still has his phone pressed against his ear is staring at you with his mouth agape.
“if you’re not gonna answer, i’ll be hang-” before morisuke could push the red button, kuroo beats him to it.
the raven-haired clears his throat and shove his phone inside his pockets, “yeah, no. just in time, you ready?” his charming smile greeting you, “i see,” you sigh in relief. “may i?” he offers a hand which you gladly accept.
kuroo leads the way, hands intertwined with yours. “where are you taking me, uhhh… uhm,” you halt your steps and furrow your brows in concentration, eyes focused on him. “kuroo, tetsurou kuroo” he fills in for you.
“kuroo-san,” you say while nodding, “kuroo’s alright and i’m taking the lovely lady somewhere around here. it’s a surprise, you’ll have to find out later,” his smiles cheekily while winking at you.
morisuke might have not set up a place for your date but he knows this one location he loves the most. it might be a risky move to bring someone he’s only met once but his guts tells him otherwise.
a small gasp comes past your lips, the view is beautiful.
“before i continue the story, i gotta say. i’m such an innovative genius,” kuroo boasts. you nudge his shoulder a little, “just continue the story, nerd” kuroo pouts at your statement.
the first date happened by the side of the lake, kind of recreating the tangled lake scene except it’s daylight and there’s no lantern nor were you two on a boat. “do you like it?” his voice trembles slightly.
“how do you know this place?” your gaze fleeting from his eyes and back to the view, in awe of its beauty. kuroo lets out a deep breath and walks beside you, “i consider this my escape place.”
your head snaps in his direction, “you trust me to know this place?... in our first date?!” you look at him with wide eyes.
kuroo shrugs, “are you saying there’s gonna be a second?” he kicks a random pebble, his lips spreading to a playful smile.
he looks at you in the eyes with a brow raised, you break eye-contact, your face heating up. “so… escape place huh?” you try to subtly change the subject, he hums, having fun seeing you flustered.
the date went great, you got to know him better. he’s a sweet guy despite the rumors surrounding him overall a laid-back person.
kuroo holds up a finger, smiling ear to ear, he’s enjoying your company as much as you enjoy his. he’s about to utter his words when big drops of water land on the top of his head.
“oh you gotta be kidding me,” he mutters under his breath. the rain starts pouring down on the two of you, “it really has to be right at this moment?” you giggle at his words while he takes off his jacket.
“here’s my jacket,” he says while standing up. after you put on his jacket and wear the hood, he takes your hand in his, “are you a runner?” you shake your head to him, “sadly, i’m not.”
“how about dancing?” he reaches out for your other hand, “what? kuroo…” he rests both your hands around his neck and smiles down at you, his hands making their way to your hips.
he clears his throat before singing, “all those days,” his eyes finding yours, deep soothing voice filling your ears. “chasing down a daydream,” his voice lingering, bringing a hand up to cradle your face.
both your hips sways side to side as his voice sets the pace, the rain pouring down on the two of you. “all those years,” his thumb gently caressing your cheek.
the golden-like light shining down on you, perfectly framing your features, “living in a blur” you close your eyes leaning to his warm touch.
“i gotta say, you’re lucky to have your own flynn rider,” kuroo smugly claims. you scoff and roll your eyes at him, “if anything, you’re more of a maximus than flynn.” your boyfriend gasps at you and looks genuinely hurt by your statement.
“also, i can’t believe you gave me your jacket and decide to get us drenching wet from the rain,” you say while looking him in the eyes, “yeah that was pretty dumb, not gonna lie,” kenma mumbles while playing with his handheld game console.
“it was not! it’s very sweet and that wasn’t what you said when we were having our disney moment,” kuroo faces you, the arm around your shoulder is now pointing at you. “yeah because i don’t wanna be rude.”
as the two of you have your mini banter, kai turns to morisuke, “maximus has a better personality than flynn though… right?” the libero chuckles, “let him be, flynn does perfectly portray that tall bastard anyway.”
your mini argument is temporarily cut off by your sneeze, kuroo sighs, “you forgot your jacket again?” you shake your head, too stubborn to admit. “i’m okay, as i’m saying, you’re maxi-” he shrugs off his jacket and drapes it around your shoulder.
“wear it then we can continue,” he says while looking at you sternly, you begrudgingly wear the jacket and cross your arms while huffing.
“is this normal?” lev who’s watching the scene unfold, asks the group, they all nod in sync, not batting an eye at the couple.
as lev turns to look back at the couple, he can’t believe how you were just having a mini banter not moments ago and now you're all over each other.
“love you,” you mutter, snuggling closer to his side, “and i love you... to the moon and back,” he replies, leaving a kiss on top of your head.
-to embrace hs sweethearts
you take kuroo's hand as he leads you in the center of the dance floor, the music changing to a slower song, the instrumentals familiar to your ears.
kuroo takes the mic that's given to him and smiles at you, looking deeply into your eyes. "all those days," his beautiful voice can be heard by everyone.
your eyes soften looking back with the same overflowing love, "i love you," you mouth to him as he continues, "watching from the windows."
soon, rain special effects start pouring down just outside where you and him won't get wet, "you even got the rain effect?" you gasp, mouth agape. he nods, lyrics continue to flow past his lips.

JATP ROUND ONE FICS!
We received FOURTEEN (14!) mythical angsty coffee-filled Fics for the First Round of the 1st JATP TROPED Event! These fics were super creative, and we loved to see how you all challenged yourselves with the theme, tropes, and pairings!
Please try to read as many fics as you can, take some notes, leave some kudos/comments for the authors, and get ready to help us vote on the winners!
Voting will begin on Monday, April 26th at 12:00am EST and end Wednesday, April 28th at 11:59pm EST.
————
the sky was gray and white and (cloudy) (Rated T) [Alex x Willie]
Summary: “I’ve got you,” Willie’s whispering over and over, panic creeping into his voice. “Alex, I’ve got you, okay? Come on, baby, come on, it’s okay, I’ve got you, you’re gonna be okay, I love you--”
Alex spits out what feels like a clot of blood and gives Willie a tired grin, probably looking completely insane.
“That’s pretty gay of you,” he says, just as his vision clouds over and he passes out.
Honey, You're Familiar (Like My Mirror Years Ago) (Rated T) [Julie x Luke]
Summary: Luke works at a coffee shop, which is normal, quietly pines after his coworker, which is normal, and also occasionally steals people's faces without really meaning to.
It's probably that last part that moves him pretty solidly out of the "normal" territory.
But that's fine, that's totally cool.
He's handling it super well.
You Can't Value People Less Than a Good, Hot Cup of Bean Juice (It Just Seems Rude) (Rated T) [Julie x Luke]
Summary: Julie gets a job at a coffee stand in the middle of nowhere.
It'll help to pass the time, if nothing else.
And if there's a cute guy who works the shift after her and sometimes leaves her ridiculously endearing messages on an ancient tape recorder?
Well, that's just a bonus.
honest to god I’ll break your heart, tear you to pieces and rip you apart (Rated T) [Julie x Luke]
Summary: Julie wakes up with a start. Her hair is stuck to her face with sweat and there is a loud crashing noise. The sheets beneath her feel rough against her skin. She shivers, when a breeze meets her naked skin. She must have left the window open when she went to bed last night. She opens her eyes. The room is dark around her, but the glow in the dark stars, she stuck on her ceiling when she was a kid, are shimmering brighter than ever before.
or: the siren!Julie AU no one asked for
new instincts (Rated T) [Luke x Reggie]
Summary: Reggie is fine with being the only human member of his band, Julie and the Phantoms (tell your friends!), just like he’s fine with being the only single member. It doesn’t make him feel lonely, and he’s only picking up more shifts at the coffee shop because he needs more money, not because he’s avoiding being alone. And picking up more shifts at the coffee shop is making the work easier! He’s only a little confused by the fact that he can now touch the espresso machine mid shift without burning himself… must be all of the experience.
you look like you've just seen a monster (is that what i look like to you?) (Rated T) [Bobby x Alex x Luke x Reggie]
Summary: When Bobby woke up that Friday morning, he wasn’t expecting to have horns. Who would? There was absolutely no reason to expect horns to just start growing out of his temples, but there they were anyway.
He stared in silent shock at the little nubs in the mirror. They were only an inch or two big, but pointy and a little fuzzy when he poked at them.
Well, at least they weren’t fully grown yet.
(or: it's angsty tiefling bobby time, folks!)
We Are Monsters, We Are Proud (Rated G) [Flynn x Carrie, Julie x Luke]
Summary: The clock is striking thirteen
It's time to scream your team
We don't have to say goodbye
'Cause friends like these will never die
Carrie finds herself at a college like no other in search of her dad and some answers.
Julie's not feeling good and maybe staring at roses wasn't the best idea.
Monster College/Coffeeshop AU
sending forth their beautiful voice, and my heart was fain to listen (Rated G) [Julie x Carrie]
Summary: Months after the death of her mom, Julie prepares to sing again and makes an upsetting discovery.
rise from the ashes (Rated M) [Alex x Willie]
Summary: At a time when everything was going wrong for Alex, the one bright spot in his life was the charming barista at the coffee shop he frequented. At least, it was the bright spot until everything went up in flames. All he could do was hope that they could rise from the ashes and figure things out together.
Siren's Song (Rated T) [Ray x Rose]
Summary: The Scopuli was never meant to be a permanent arrangement. Rose had taken the job straight out of school just looking to make a little extra money before the tour kicked off.
That was four years ago.
After a string of bad luck befalls Rose and the Petal Pushers, she can't help but wonder if she is the problem. Or is there something more sinister at play?
Yellow (Rated T) [Julie & Reggie]
Summary: Reggie picked up his apron and polo. Julie returned, this time hiding behind Alex. He held a pair of metal pastry tongs out in front of him like a weapon. One of his arms was extended protectively in front of Julie.
“Alex, Julie, what are you doing?” Reggie cleared his throat; his voice was deep and gruff, like he was developing a cold.
Julie and Alex startled. Julie glanced down at her nametag. Alex readjusted his footing and his grip on the tongs.
“What’s going on, guys?”
Alex took a deep breath. “I don’t know who you are, dude, but you have got to leave.”
--
Reggie just wanted to get some new guitar strings. A shapeshifter!Reggie au
Angels Like You (Rated T) [Luke x Reggie]
Summary: Reggie is having a bit of a weird day. It gets worse when he figures out that it's because he died in his sleep and has somehow been walking around as a ghost without realising it. Meeting Luke helps. Luke says he's a fellow ghost, and there is something about him that Reggie just feels drawn to. Falling for him is the easiest thing Reggie has ever done, but Luke is a little more than he lets on, and it turns out that their story actually started long before Reggie thought it did.
look into my eyes (it's where my demons hide) (Rated T) [Flynn x Carrie]
Summary: Hiding out from demons was never a desirable nightmare. Of course, Carrie would much prefer a run-for-my-life nightmare than actually running for her life. Having Flynn around is a very welcome soothing balm, though.
Bring All The Monsters Out To Play, Let All The Red Erase The Grey (Rated T) [Bobby & Reggie]
Summary: Mythologicals, Reggie realised, were kind of like queer people. Sometimes your Token Human friend turns around one day and admits that actually, there was something they were suppressing all along, and they hadn’t realised.
--
Reggie’s final exam has been pushed forward at the most inconvenient time. Bobby is sick, Alex is missing, and now he needs to help a selkie get their ‘Happily-Ever-After’ in order to scrape a passing grade. Oh, and if his boss catches him handing out more free coffee, he’s gonna get fired.

Tumblr media
A/n: Hey guys so this is my first imagine on tumblr. I know it’s pretty long but my fingers just kept typing.🙃 Definitely let me know if I should make shorter ones or longer ones or even a series! Also let me know if you guys have any requests or plots that I could write and for who! Finally finally let me know if you like it in a first reader POV or if i should try a third person POV! Oh and if I should post them in a book on wattpad or keep the content strictly on tumblr!!!😁 (Ps. I’ll most likely be adding a song to every chapter whether it goes with the chapter or not!) Check out my last post for more information on my writing.
Warnings: None
————
I sat in the studio along with my bandmates tuning my guitar. We were currently waiting on Julie to return from school so we could begin to practice for tonight. Her dad got us a gig playing for a couple of her friends to start a following. Which made a lot of sense when Julie explained it to me. Right after Luke sent me into a frenzie of confusion.
"Hey y/n/n you think you could help me with these lyrics for tonight?" Luke called from the couch. I stood up from my comfortable spot on the chair under the loft and flashed myself onto the spot right next to him.
"Sure Lukey" I said taking his writing journal in my own hands and sitting back to scan over the words.
Y/n- I believe, I believe that we're just one dream
I mumbled hearing Luke start to strum on his six string the melody of the song.
Away from who were mean to be that were standing on the edge of
Y/n, L- Something big something crazy our best days are yet unknown that this moment is ours to own
He joined in.
Y/n- Cause we're standing on the edge of great
L- (On the edge of great)
Y/n- Great
L- (On the edge of great)
Y/n- Great
L- (On the edge of great)
Y/n- Cause we're standing on the edge of
We sang to each other back and forth with smiles plastered on our faces.
Y/n, L- Shout shout. C'mon and let it out, out. C'mon and let it out, out. Don't gotta hide it. Let your colors blind their eyes. Be who you are no compromise. Just shout, shout. C'mon and let it out
We paused running out of lyrics. My mind racing searching for the next line.
Y/n- What doesn't kill you makes you feel alive
I sang softly as he leaned in closer with a smirk plastered on his face.
Y/n, L- Ooh-oh. I believe, I believe that we're just one dream. Away from who we're meant to be. That we're standing on the edge of great
We finished out of breath. My smile grew as Alex and Reggie began to clap.
"That was great"
"Yeah we’re gonna rock Julie's garage tonight" Reggie said making it sound less cool than it actually was.
"Definitely" Luke said standing up.
"Thanks for the help boss" He said sending me a smile.
"Anytime" I grinned before turning around to go take my previous seat to finish tuning my guitar.
"I'm gonna go find Julie and let her know we've got the song ready for tonight thanks to our amazing rhythm guitarist"
"Sounds like a plan" Alex said.
"Don't forget to mention how beautiful I am as well" I teased earning a smirk from Luke.
"I never do baby" He winked at me before disappearing. A small laugh escaped my lips before going back to my guitar.
"So" Alex said catching my attention.
"So?" I repeated looking up at the drummer boy.
"So you and Luke?"
"Me and Luke what?"
"You and Luke are like in love each other"
"We are not. Well I'm not. Can't say the same about pretty boy" I said teasingly.
"Yeah sure you're not. Reggie back me up here. Please tell your best friend that she's totally in love with Luke"
"You're totally in love Luke"
"I am not. Reggie your supposed to have my back"
"And I will. Once you admit you have a thing for Luke" He said smirking at me. I glared at the two boys in front of me who weren't as oblivious as I had thought they were.
"Okay so I have a thing for Luke. So what?"
"So you should tell him"
"Why on earth would I do that?"
"So he can admit he's in love with you too"
"And why would he do that when he's clearly not"
"Seriously? Didn't you see the way he was looking at you when you were singing? It looked like Reggie when he sees pizza"
"Pizza?" Reggie perked up excitedly. "There no pizza" Alex said a frown appearing on the bassist face.
"Just because looks at me a certain way does not mean he loves me"
"Really because last time I checked constantly touching each other means you like each other, constantly flirting means you like each other, and when was the last time you wore one of your own shirts" Alex said pointing at my outfit. I sunk back into my seat. He was right about everything down to one of the many shirts Luke had let me have.
"Come on y/n just admit it after we died something more changed with you two. We all see it. Even Reggie sees it and that's saying something"
"Yeah. So it's not like he's ever gonna say anything. So why should I put myself out there to possibly get rejected and heartbroken by my best friend? I mean how do we even know for sure if he's in love with me. Or even likes me for that matter?"
"We don't. Yet" Alex said smirking.
"Oh that's his thinking face. I haven't seen that since 94" Reggie said backing up slightly.
"I think we're in trouble"
It had been a couple hours after Julie had gotten out of school. Yet her or Luke were nowhere to be found. I groaned walking out of the bathroom in the back of the studio.
"Seriously Alex. This is your great idea"
"No my great idea is to have you and Reggie flirt like there's no tomorrow. This is just small details" He said fixing the fit of the flannel on my body. It was Reggie's lucky flannel that took a lot of convincing to get off his body.
"Okay but why'd I have to change my shirt" I said looking down at my own crop top that I hadn't worn in a very long time.
"Because it was Luke's. We need him to think that you don't need his clothes anymore"
"Why did I let you drag me into this?"
"Because deep down you want him to say something about it don't you?"
"Well yeah but-"
"Hey guys!" A familiar voice popped into the garage.
"Luke" I spoke pushing Alex away from me.
"Hey man what happened to practice?" Alex asked casually.
"Julie had some stuff to do after school so I went along. But she's on her way so we should get a few runs in-" His words slowly came to a halt sending me a strange look.
"Isn't that Reggies lucky flannel?"
"Uh yeah. He let me barrow it. For good luck. Here's your shirt back by the way. I don't think I'll need it anymore" I said trying to hand him back the shirt I was wearing previously.
"You know you don't have to give it back. It's yours" His lips simpered.
"I know but Reggie said if I needed to I could just barrow his"
"Oh" was all Luke before taking the shirt out of my hands.
Suddenly the garage door opened and in walked Julie.
"Hey guys" She smiled.
"Ready for tonight?"
"Definitely"
"Flynn's coming over before to help me get ready. Girl time?" Julie asked looking at me.
"I'll be there" I smiled.
"So are we ready to rehearse?"
"Where's Reggie?"
"He went out said he would be back in a bit"
As if on cue the other ghost popped in with a smile on his face.
"Luke" He said his eyes going wide.
"Your back"
"Yeah I am. Who are the flowers for?" Luke asked eyeing the bouquet of roses in his hand.
"They’re for y/n. You know she deserves the best" Reggie said nervously sticking his hand out for me.
"Thanks Reggie" I smiled lightly.
"She also deserves her favorite flowers. Sunflowers in case you were wondering"
"Luke" I scolded him taking the bouquet.
"I think it's a sweet gesture Reggie. Seriously thank you"
"Your welcome" He smiled pulling me into a light hug.
"I think we should rehearse before it gets any later" Alex suggested trying to ease the now very notable tension in the room.
"Sounds good" Julie said awkwardly stepping past Reggie and Luke who were standing a few feet apart. I looked at Alex who gave me a small nod.
"Uh Reggie can you come here for a sec I need your help" I said pulling him away to my guitar stand. I placed strap around my body waiting for the brunette to turn his attention to me.
"Uh sure. Cutie?" He spoke in a questionable tone before looking down at me.
"You need his help with guitar?" Luke asked clearly confused.
"Well yeah"
"But I always help you with guitar" "He offered earlier if I needed help to come to him"
"Yeah. I did that" Reggie said trying to act tough.
"Whatever" Luke scoffed.
I watched as he swung his guitar around his shoulder aggressively. I glanced at Julie who was sending me a confused look so I quickly shrugged my shoulder not knowing what else to do.
It was mere minutes before we were heading out to perform. The tension in the air was now overpowered by excitement.
"I'm so nervous" I said bouncing my leg up and down anxiously.
Suddenly I felt a hand land on it stopping my movements. I looked up to see Luke smiling down at me.
"Don't be nervous your gonna do amazing out there"
"Thanks" I smiled back.
"Yeah. Your always amazing. Did I mention you look beautiful tonight? Wearing my flannel. My lucky flannel" Reggie said with a pestering smile as he swung an arm around my shoulder.
"We get it. It's your flannel" Luke interrupted immediately removing his hand from my leg. I looked at Alex who was stifling a laugh.
"Uh thanks Reg. You look good too"
"Oh I know. And I'm gonna look better singing up there with you. It'll be like old times. You and me. And a microphone"
"You and me. And a microphone" Luke mimicked him. I almost laughed only to be startled by someone walking in.
"Hey guys are you ready?"
"Ready as we'll ever be" I spoke. Julie simply nodded her head walking out.
I stood up pacing around as I heard Julie begin the opening notes on the piano outside.
"Hey your gonna do great out there" Luke said stopping me from walking anymore.
"Thanks. You are too. You and Julie have great chemistry"
"Well yeah. But I think we have great chemistry too" He said taking my hands in his.
I finally looked into his eyes see him staring into mine in. A small smile forming on my face.
"Guys!" Alex called knocking us out of our trance. I panicked immediately flashing outside with Luke. Landing beside Reggie with my guitar at hand. Luke only a few feet away in his own place.
J- I believe
I believe that we're just one dream
Away from who we're meant to be
That we're standing on the edge of
Y/n- Something big, something crazy
Our best days are yet unknown
That this moment is ours to own
I joined in singing into Reggies microphone beaming with excitement. I scanned the crowd seeing smiles on people faces. This is all we ever wanted.
J- Cause we're standing on the edge of great
All- (On the edge of great)
J- Great
All- (On the edge of great)
J- Great
All- (On the edge of great)
J- 'Cause we're standing on the edge of great
L- We all make mistakes
But they're just stepping stones
To take us where we wanna go
It's never straight, no
Luke sang sending me a wink before continuing to sing with Julie.
L,J- Sometimes we gotta lean
Lean on someone else
To get a little help
I giggled as Reggie leaned on me. Back to back. Both of us playing our guitars to the same beat.
J- Until we find our way
I believe
I believe that we're just one dream
Away from who we're meant to be
That we're standing on the edge of
Y/n- Something big, something crazy
Our best days are yet unknown
That this moment is ours to own
J- Cause we're standing on the edge of great
All- (On the edge of great)
J- Great
All- (On the edge of great)
J- Great
All- (On the edge of great)
J- 'Cause we're standing on the edge of...
J- Shout, shout
C'mon and let it out, out
Don't gotta hide it
Let your colors blind their eyes
Be who you are no compromise
My heart rate picked up. The scene from earlier replaying in my head as Julie sang the next lines. Taking a chance I looked in Luke's direction to see him already looking at me with a grin on his face. I smirked walking over to the piano.
J- And Just shout, shout
C'mon and let it out, out
J, Y/n- What doesn't kill you makes you feel alive
Ooh-oh
J- I believe
Julie sang as Luke and I let off a similar guitar riff making me laugh.
I believe that we're just one dream
Away from who we're meant to be
That we're standing on the edge of great
Making my way over to Luke I let out a giggle as I pulled his beanie down slightly messing up his look. Before making my over back to Reggie. I looked back at the brunette to see him grinning from ear to ear.
All- Something big, something crazy
Our best days are yet unknown
That this moment is ours to own
Cause we're standing on the edge of great
(On the edge of great)
J- On the edge of great
All- (Great, on the edge of great) On the edge
All- (Great, on the edge of great)
J- 'Cause we're standing on the edge of...
L- Running from the past
Y/n- Tripping on the now
J- What is lost can be found
It's obvious
Luke, Julie, and I finished singing towards the audience.
Making eye contact with a few kids before flashing out myself back into the garage where Alex and Reggie were already waiting. Adrenaline coursing through our veins as another presence poofed into the room.
"That was amazing!" Luke shouted excitedly.
"I can't believe we just did that. Did you see how pumped they were?" I asked falling back onto the couch besides Reggie.
"Yeah. They loved us!" "Remind me to thank Julie for playing our CD later"
"Tonight it's her garage tomorrow it's- it's clubs, dances, and worldwide tours" Luke said eagerly. Taking the free spot to my left.
"God I wish we could feel like this all the time" I said leaning into Luke.
"Me too y/n/n" He said placing an arm around me. A sudden fake cough erupting from Alex's lips. I looked over to see him staring at me with a look.
"Oh uh- Reggie you were great out there" I complimented the boy sitting up.
"Thanks. You uh- you looked hot" He tried to sound cool but failed miserably.
"You think?"
"Oh yeah- I mean the sweat on your forehead and like the heat and-"
"What are you going on about?" Luke asked confusion plastering itself on his face.
"I think what he means is y/n is attractive. Right Reggie?" Alex asked.
"No, no don't answer for him. Reggie be straight with me do you like y/n or not?" Luke asked standing up.
"Why does it matter if I do or don't?" Reggie questioned standing up as well.
"Because you out of everyone know that I like her so why are you letting her wear your clothes, buying her flowers, and calling her hot. I thought I made it clear she was off limits" Luke said my mouth widening in shock.
"I'm off limits?" I asked looking at him.
"How many people did you make it clear to that I was off limits?" I asked not really wanting an answer I was expecting.
"A few"
"A few? Micheal Brookes?" I asked remembering a guy I began to talk to at the beginning of our senior year who randomly stopped talking to me one day. I watched as his head dipped in a short nod.
"Jacob Miller?" I continued watching his nod once again.
"Grant Dean?" Nod.
"Nick Harper?" Nod.
"Derek Johnson?" Nod.
"Seriously Luke? Your the reason I never had a boyfriend my senior year. To make it worse I died a virgin. You asshole" I shouted standing up. I was fuming at this point. He had no right. And he still did it. My head whipped towards the garage door heading it creak open.
"Hey guys" Julie and Flynn smiled walking it.
"You guys did great out there" Flynn said happily. Julie immediately noticing the tension in the room and the frown upon my lips.
"Are you okay y/n?"
"I don't know why don't you ask Luke?" I spoke before flashing out.
I landed in the only place I could think of. A single tear escaped my eye as I sat on the marquee of the Orpheum. Our dream. His dream. I stared out onto the lit up street of Sunset Boulevard. If he didn't want me seeing anyone he could've said something. For the longest time I wondered why guys were such assholes. It wasn't them. It was Luke. It was always Luke.
"I know your mad" I heard his voice speak from behind me.
"I think I'm beyond mad Luke. How could you?" I asked standing up and turning towards him.
"I came crying to you all those times wondering why guys didn't want me. And-and you made me think that it was all me when it was really you. Telling them to back off. Why? Why would you do this to me?"
"Because-" He was at a loss for words. Looking like a kicked puppy.
"I-I wanted you" He finally spoke up.
"You what?"
"I wanted you" He spoke more confidently.
"I wanted you to myself. I- I every time you came and told me you were talking to someone new it hurt because I know it should've been me who asked you out. Who got the courage to just tell you that I-" He went silent the anger in me evaporating in a matter of seconds.
"That you what?" I asked quietly.
"That I love you. I know I'm late but I can't hold it in anymore. After seeing you and Reggie today I got jealous just like I used to back in high school. I know this'll probably ruin our friendship but I don't want to lose you so I really need you to say something right now before I go insane not hearing your beautiful voice" He finished off finally looking at me. The look in his eyes was as hurt. And I wanted to be mad. But I couldn't be. Not when he just admitted what I had been wanting to hear for so long.
"Your 25 years late. But I think we have an eternity to make up for that" I said his eyebrows flying up in surprise.
"Really?"
"You really think I wanted to wear my own shirt today Patterson? Alex told me that if I kept wearing your clothes I'd only fall deeper in love you" I spoke a smile reaching both our face.
He quickly made his way towards me. Leaning forward until his lips attached themselves onto mine. I giggled as he lifted me in his arms holding me close. Our lips molding perfectly like they were made for each other.
"This isn't real" He whispered putting me down.
"Your mine. God your mine" He mumbled pressing open mouth kisses down my neck before connecting his lips back to mine.
"It's definitely real Lukey"
"I love it when you call me that" He mumbled into my lips.
"Don't get all soft on me now Patterson" I laughed pulling away.
"I'm sorry for what I did before I really am. For making you upset and I'm gonna spend an eternity making it up to you"
"It's okay Luke. It's in the past now. I just would've preferred if you would've not scared away every guy that tried to talk to me"
"I promise I'll never hurt you like that again" He said holding me close by the waist. As I began to suck on his neck to begin leaving a hickey.
"And I promise you won't be a virgin for much longer" He whispered reattaching our lips again.

Person A, the smaller of the two, picks out an enormous pumpkin at the pumpkin patch and insists to Person B that they’re fine carrying it back on their own, even though they’re clearly not. . .sounds like something Carlos would pull
"C'mon Reggie!"
"Hold up little dude, I'm coming!" Reggie called back, chasing after his Little Brother Carlos. He had signed up for the program for extra credit his sophomore year, but he had come to love it, really bonding with Carlos.
Carlos who had been sullen and rude at their first meeting, doing poorly in school and having just lost his mom. Reggie tried to be there for them, letting him brood and sulk for a bit before taking them places, slowly opening up to Carlos so the boy would do the same.
Now Carlos talked his ear off every time they saw each other, his grades were up, he was on his school's baseball team, and he had his own YouTube channel about ghost hunting.
Thus them ending up at a pumpkin patch because Carlos wanted a prop for his Great Pumpkin episode. A compromise after Carlos' dad had nixxed the boy's plan to stay at the patch all night. He had slipped Reggie a twenty to help pay for gas, and wished him luck.
Now Reggie realized the wishes had not been in jest. Carlos had run all over the patch trying to find the 'most sincere' pumpkin, which apparently none of the gourds they had come across fit said moniker.
"We gotta go soon, it'll be dark soon," Reggie cautioned as they trod through another lane full of orange vegetation. "I promised your dad I'd have you home for supper."
"Bleh, we're having pot roast again and papi always overcooks it," Carlos said. "But at least Julie will make the sides and she's aces at that."
"Hey my supper tonight is probably a pack of instant ramen so don't knock a homemade meal," Reggie jibbed.
"You wanna come for dinner? You know papi won't mind, he keeps inviting you," Carlos said. "Plus you can finally meet Julie."
Over the past few years Reggie had yet to meet Carlos' sister, as he only came over to pick Carlos up, and Julie apparently had an active social life, in a duo with her best friend Flynn and part of the school orchestra as a pianist.
"Maybe I will," Reggie said. "If you pick out a gosh darn pumpkin already!"
Carlos rolled his eyes and sighed. "Fiiiiine." He looked over the field in front of him and then dashed off, with Reggie hot on his heels. Stopping at a pumpkin that looked like it was a size or two short of being a coach for Cinderella.
"It's enormous!" Reggie exclaimed.
"It's perfect!" Carlos echoed. "I want it!"
Reggie sighed, but he didn't try to talk him out of it, simply waved an employee over to cut the gourd off the vine and pay. "You think we can borrow a wheelbarrow?"
"Nah, it's fine, I got it," Carlos said, hefting it up into his arms, disappearing behind the pumpkin.
"You need help little man?" Reggie asked, trying to keep the amusement out of his voice.
"No," Carlos said, but Reggie could hear him straining. He took a few steps, then paused. Started again and repeated it a few times, only getting a foot away from where Reggie was standing. "Maybe a little?"
Reggie chuckled and took a good chunk of the heft, the two of them waddling towards his truck, Reggie wincing at the thought of what this would do to his suspension. They dusted themselves off, and once they were strapped in, took off back to the Molina house.
Ray looked at the pumpkin as they laid it in the mudroom. "Whelp, you two are helping me carve this. But tia will have enough for pie for a dog's age."
"Can Reggie stay for supper?" Carlos asked.
"Of course he can mijo," Ray said, then turned to Reggie. "You're always welcome Reggie, no need to ask."
Reggie beamed and whispered his thanks, then went to go wash up while Carlos set the table and Ray called Julie.
Reggie was exciting the bathroom when he collided with a body, catching them around the waist and stopping. Oh wow. This must be Julie and she was so so pretty. "Hi there."
She blushed a little and beamed up at him. "Hi. You must be Reggie."
"That's me," he replied. "I'm Carlos' Big Brother. But not yours."
Julie giggled, "Well that's good. You staying for supper?"
"That I am."
"Well that's good, I made apple crisp," Julie said. "You don't wanna miss that."
"I don't think I wanna miss much," Reggie said, running his fingers through his hair and sending her a grin.
Carlos stood off to the side and grinned, high fiving his dad before they snuck off, not even caring that it took ten minutes for the other two to come to the table, looking pink and a little flustered. But Carlos didn't mind, and wondered how long it would be until Reggie became his big brother for real.

Take my hand (take my whole life too)
"We played the Oprheum!"
The bouncing hug only lasted a second or two. While the boys regained a significant amount of lost strength, Julie's was slowly dwindling. She was, after all, only human and was out of home way later than usual. Her own internal clock seemed to be screaming at her to at least sit down.
Instead, she went down with the boys as her foot caught on a cable and she stumbled to the floor.
Alex made for a soft landing, one for which her apology was littered with giggles. Alex didn't mind. The slight pain was welcome in comparison to Caleb's jolts. Not to mention, he'd wanted to hug Julie ever since she cried during her not-so-private performance of her mother's song weeks ago. So he lay on the floor and squished Julie tight, only bringing forth more giggles.
"Hey, my turn!" Reggie yelled, rolling over and dropping himself half on Julie, fully on Alex.
"Oof," Luke commented, "that looks like it hurt."
"It did," Alex wheezed, adjusting himself to get used to the additional weight.
As one, all three of them held out an arm to Luke, who didn't hesitate to scoot closer and join the cuddle pile. Head on Alex's shoulder, he was right in front of Julie. He gave her a smile that, had she been standing, would've probably made her lose her balance. She gave him one back.
"I like this," Reggie murmured contentedly, closing his eyes.
"Yeah," Julie agreed, relishing in the fact that she could finally hug her boys, "me too."
They stayed like that for a moment before Alex sat up with great difficulty, sending them all tumbling. "You're all very heavy," he stated by way of explaining.
Julie chuckled and moved to stand up. Luke and Reggie grabbed one of her arms each.
"Stay," both whined. Reggie continued with a grin. "I promise I can be a soft pillow for you."
"I'd love to, honestly, but Carlos is waiting for me. He wanted to talk to me and. . ."
"Fine," Reggie huffed, "but just know that I'm feeling incredibly hurt right now."
Julie ruffled his hair, grinning when he closed his eyes and smiled under her touch. "There's always tomorrow."
Still, all three of them pouted when Julie stood up and righted her clothes.
"I'll see you guys in the morning," she said before walking to the doors. She paused just before closing it. "Thank you, guys."
Alex gave her a wave. Luke smiled at her with a dopey expression. Reggie continued to pout.
Tumblr media
Julie bounded up the pathway, gait as giddy as her smile. Carlos was waiting for her in the living room.
"Hey," she said, joining him on the couch.
"Hey."
"Whatcha got there?" she asked, nodding to the paper Carlos' hands were clamped around. "Another French dip recipe?"
Carlos shook his head. "You know what this is."
"I . . . really don't."
"Your band! They're--!" Carlos stopped and glanced around looking for their father. He leaned across the vouch and whispered to Julie with wide eyes, "ghosts."
Julie forced a laugh. "What? No, don't be silly, there's no such thing as ghosts."
Carlos lifted his eyebrows. "Okay, then explain this."
Julie picked up the little black and blue page Carlos tossed to the middle of the couch, recognising it as a CD insert. For Sunset Curve. Julie's own eyebrows lifted slightly, but she continued to pretend like she hadn't a clue what was happening. Then she turned it over and knew the jig was up. Staring up at her was all four members of Sunset Curve. Trevor, or Bobby, sure looked different when he was younger.
"They're just lookalikes--"
"I'd believe you if they were here and we could touch them."
The idea of being able to hold and hug her bandmates brought a warm smile back to Julie's face. She quickly wiped it off and shook her head. "Where'd you even find this?"
"In the box with the French dip recipe."
"Ah."
Carlos suddenly looked around wildly. Julie looked around too.
"What? What happened? What are we looking for?"
"Are they here?"
"What? No, they're in the garage--"
"Aha!" Carlos grinned and folded his arms. "You're a terrible liar, Jules."
"Wh-- I am not!"
"You are, though."
Julie jumped slightly and moved away from Reggie. Carlos noticed and immediately turned his gaze where Julie looked. "Are they here now? Tell them I say hello!"
Julie rolled her eyes. "They can hear you, dork -- and it's just Reggie."
"Tell him that I say hello."
"Reggie says hello," Julie said, heaving a resigned sigh. "What are you doing here? I told you I'd see you in the morning."
"I knew it," Carlos whispered to himself as he watched his sister talk to thin air. She looked, in all honesty, a bit insane, but at least he knew he was right about the ghosts. "So how does the ghost thing even work? How come I can't see him now, but we can all see them when you play?"
Julie whipped her head from Reggie to Carlos. "It -- I'll explain it all tomorrow, okay? It's been a long day. Reggie, go back to the studio. Carlos, to bed. It's late."
"All right," Carlos grumbled, sliding off the couch. He paused at the stairs and glanced back to see Julie scolding nothing. He hoped he'd get to officially met the guys. Julie made them seem fun.
Tumblr media
"All right, little man, what do you wanna hear?"
Julie repeated the question to Carlos, letting him know that it was Reggie who asked.
Carlos thought for a moment. "I like the song you were singing before you got back into the music program."
"Oh, that's not our song, that -- that--"
"No, it's okay," Luke said, "I'm sure we can work something out."
"I -- okay."
Carlos sat down on the couch, almost bouncing with excitement as Julie took a seat behind the piano. The melody she played wasn't loud and energetic like their usual songs. It was quiet and gentle. Even when the band kicked in, they were much softer than usual. Julie hummed along where the words should be so that Carlos could easily speak to the boys.
"I'm--"
"Wait!" Carlos said, jumping off the couch, cutting Luke off. "I'm gonna guess based on what Julie says about you."
"You talk about us?" Luke asked with a teasing grin.
Julie hit a particularly furious note. "Shut up."
"Luke, Reggie and Alex," Carlos said, pointing to the correct band member as he went.
"Nice, little man!"
"This is so cool," Carlos whispered, eyes widening when Reggie paused playing and knelt down for Carlos to stick his hand through Reggie's arm. "Woah."
The band noticed that they were very intangible to Carlos.
Luke was only slightly disappointed when Carlos chose to focus his attention on Alex next.
"I like your hoodie."
"Thanks," Alex said, beaming. "Here, you wanna try?"
"Nah, I don't play music . . . okay, maybe a little."
Julie laughed softly as she watched Alex stand and then point where Carlos should hit. To keep them from disappearing, she continued the piano. Luke kept up with his guitar, grinning at her all the while. Their little musical conversation didn't go unnoticed by Reggie and Alex, who shared a knowing glance before Carlos grabbed Alex's attention.
"Have you ever accidentally stabbed your drums through with the sticks?"
"No, and please do not do that. We have no idea what it costs to repair dead instruments."
Carlos handed the drumsticks back to Alex and hopped off the chair. He stood in front of Luke, who knelt down as Reggie had done.
"So. You're the one my sister has a crush on."
"Carlos!" Jullie yelled, standing up and slamming down about five wrong keys.
"It was nice meeting you," Carlos yelled as he fled the garage.
With her face burning, Julie chased him down.
Alex and Reggie did their best not to laugh. They really did. But the shell-shocked look on Luke's face was hilarious. Even the withering glare Luke sent them didn't help quieten their laughter.
Up in the house, Ray Molina thought he was about to witness a wrestling match. "Julie! What are you doing?"
Julie, who suddenly realised there was no way to explain why she was attacking Carlos without either sounding like a lunatic or exposing the phantoms to her father, slowly slid down to the ground.
Carlos sat up on the couch. "Julie has a crush on Luke! Julie has a crush on Luke! Julie has a--"
"Oh, that is it!"
Perplexed, Ray watched Julie spring back on the couch with a war cry, followed by a pained, "How could you say that in front of him?!"
"Who's Luke?"
Carlos, seemingly determined to ruin Julie's life, broke out from her seeking arms and grinned at Ray. "The beanie boy in her little boyband--"
"CARLOS!"
"Julie," Ray said, a playful warning edge creeping into his voice as he folded his arms, "is there something you want to talk about?"
"No! Not at all! Excuse me, I have to go, um, rehearse!"
"Rehearse?" Ray exchanged an amused grin with Carlos. "What for?"
"Uh, future gigs? You know, since we played the Orpheum, we might get like a ton of calls and -- oh, like this, see?" As Julie held up her phone, both Ray and Carlos saw Flynn's name, but both decided to give Julie a small reprieve. In the meantime, Carlos could fill Ray in about this little crush business.
"You are not going to believe what just happened," Julie said, taking the stairs two at a time. "I took Carlos down to the garage to meet the guys, you know, 'cause he figured them out and he wanted to meet them, but then he told Luke I have a crush on him and I ended up chasing Carlos back to the house 'cause I didn't want to stay in the garage with Luke -- and Alex and Reggie -- and then my dad caught us fighting on the couch and then Carlos told my dad that I have a crush on Luke and my life is over!"
Flynn took a moment to respond. "Well . . . it's not like he's wrong, is he?"
"Flynn!" The wail that Julie threw into her pillow as she face planted her bed was equal parts betrayed and mortified. "How am I supposed to show my face at practice now? Can I come and bury my head in the sand at your place?"
Flynn laughed over the phone. "Grow up, Jules. You turned Nick down for this air cutie. Nick. You made your choice, now live with it."
"Flynn," Julie growled.
"Okay, okay. Look, you have to talk about it at some point. There's no way you can have that kind of fire on stage without some mutual attraction, and that's just Luke and Reggie. Then there's Luke and you. Jules, that's not even a fire anymore. There is something serious between you two and even though I still think it's a bad idea because he's, you know, air, I still think you need to talk about it before the wrong thing blows up."
"I know," Julie sighed. "I can handle Luke -- I think. It's my dad I'm worried about. How do I explain it all without him wanting to take me to a shrink?"
"Don't tell him anything. Show him. Maybe with a little less flair than you did with me. Play him something soft. Like . . . wasn't your mom in a couple of bands when she was our age? Maybe he'd know one of her songs. Maybe if you guys played something of hers, he'll have enough of his head around him to know it's all real, but enough of it will be in the clouds that it'll be easy to explain."
Julie stared at her phone, at the contact photo she had of Flynn. "You are a genius."
"I know. So, I was just calling to ask how you're holding up, but I'm going to assume everything is fine and the guys didn't cross over?"
"Yeah, no, it was really weird. Caleb's curse just sort of . . . broke, I guess, after I hugged them."
"Wait, hold up. You hugged them? What was that like, arms hanging in the air and hoping you were touching?"
Julie sighed a happy sigh. "We have a lot to talk about."
"I'll be there for dinner, no excuses -- and I expect your dad to know what's going on by then."
Julie rolled over and muffled a groan of despair into her pillow.
"Rough day?"
"It's only ten," Julie whined, lifting her head to give Alex her sad eyes.
Alex smiled. "You'll be fine -- I mean with your dad thing. With Luke on the other hand. . ."
Julie faux sobbed into her pillow, eliciting a soft chuckle from Alex, who sat down on her bed. He reached out for her shoulder then quickly drew back. Ever since Julie left the garage last night, it had been on his mind -- on all their minds -- that the hug was a one-time thing. He didn't want to confirm their fears if they were right.
"Hey, it's okay, Jules."
Julie let out a strangled wail that took Alex a few seconds of clamping his mouth shut to avoid laughing at the poor girl.
"I'm serious. You know, Luke, he . . . he's not great with feelings. He talks with music, with songs, with lyrics. He says the most important things when he looks at you on stage or at a rehearsal or when you're writing music together. He's just scared. I mean, we all are, but him most."
Julie sat up, hugging her wail-pillow to her chest. "You sound like you're speaking from experience."
Alex shrugged. "All I'm saying is, give him a chance -- and give Carlos a break. Honestly, he might have just done you a favour."
"I cannot believe you're taking Carlos' side."
"I'm not! I'm not, I'm just -- things are already complicated. How much worse can they get?"
Julie sighed. "I don't know. . ."
"Well, it's not like Luke does either. He's locked himself in the bathroom and Reg and I think he's been crying in the bathtub this whole time. We'd phase through the door but Luke can actually hit us if he wants to so. . ."
"Oh, and you think I can't?" Julie teased.
The two shared an amused grin, but beneath it, both were thinking the same thing. What if she couldn't?
"All right, I'll tall to him. But you and Reggie have to leave."
Tumblr media
Julie ventured into the empty garage. She looked around for Reggie and Alex, unsure if she was relieved or not when she didn't find them. Up in the loft, they watched Julie disappear as she headed further in towards the bathroom door.
She knocked gently. "Luke?"
Silence.
"Come on, I know you're in there. Alex says you've locked yourself in and won't come out."
"I'm not Luke."
"Okay, but I need to talk to Luke so can you pass on the message for me?"
"I'll let him know."
Julie smiled, finding Luke's behaviour somewhat amusing. She leaned against the door. "I'm sorry about Carlos, he . . . he just really enjoys embarrassing me in front of people. I guess he figured since you guys can't really speak to other people, you'll have to talk to me and we'll all have to confront whatever he said so that's why he picked you to tease and --" Julie broke off with a sigh.
The bathroom stayed silent.
"And I'm sorry for running out after him. I was just . . . I was afraid of what you'd say."
When Luke spoke again, though his voice was much softer, it was also much clearer. As if he were closer to the door. "Why? Was he . . . telling the truth? Did you say something?"
Julie fidgeted with the sleeves on her yellow jersey. "No, but I'm not exactly the most subtle person and if you haven't noticed, I suck at lying."
Luke laughed softly. "Oh, we noticed. Everyone knows you're a horrible liar."
"Thanks," Julie said with a grin, "I mean, I really just came here to affirm what a bad liar I am."
"Ooh, sarcastic too."
"Shut up."
"Well?" Luke said after a moment of silence. "Was he?"
Julie leaned against the door and sighed. "What does it matter? It's not like anything would come of it."
"It does matter, Jules. It -- it matters because -- well, I mean, you matter. To me."
"I know," Julie said softly, turning so that her back was against the door. "It sucks, doesn't it?"
"Not all of it sucks," Luke murmured from the other side of the door. "We could find a way. You've already done so much that no other lifer ever has, as far as anyone knows. Why stop there?"
Julie laughed. "Your ambition is very inspiring, Luke, but everything has a limit."
"So find that limit, then. You'll never know how high it is if you stop now."
Julie felt something brush her hand and glanced down to see Luke's arm phasing through the door. She wanted to reach for his hand but she was afraid she'd just pass through him. So she made a joke instead.
"You do realise that a floating arm is way more unsettling than anything else ghosts have ever done, right?"
"How's a floating head?" Luke asked, pulling his hand back and leaning forward. He gave Julie a grin. "That's always scary, right?"
"Stop it, that's weird."
Neither noticed that Julie had managed to make physical contact with Luke until after she'd shoved him back into the bathroom.
"If I come out there, are you going to poke me in the eyes again?"
"First of all, I didn't," Julie said, appreciating that Luke wasn't reacting with the panicked excitement she felt. "Second of all, I'll try not to."
"Okay, but if you do, I'm really going back into the bathtub."
Julie twisted her fingers and wrung her wrists and bounced nervously as she waited for Luke to step through the door.
"Can we try that again?" Luke asked, holding out both hands to her.
The scene felt vaguely familiar to Julie, and everything came crashing down when her hands passed through Luke's once and then twice.
"You're nervous," Luke said softly, "there's no need to be. You didn't think last time. You weren't nervous."
"I can't. I don't know what it is--"
"Yes, you do. You know it's not us doing anything. You're the one with all the magic, Jules."
Nervous but now confident, Julie tried once again. She thought she'd be able to walk on water whe she felt Luke's hands close around her own. The smile he gave her was the usual dopey look she always noticed him wearing around her.
"See? It's all you."
Julie squeezed his hands, almost like she was afraid she wouldn't be able to hold on much longer. "I like this," she murmured.
"Hey, Jules?"
"Yeah?"
Luke watched her eyes widen the tiniest bit as she gave him a questioning look. "Uh, do you -- about what Carlos said . . . We will talk about that, right?"
"Yes. I promise. Just . . . later?"
"Okay." Just the promise was enough for Luke. Besides, he could hold her, now. He could hold her hand, brush her hair out of her face, hug her. He could even flick her nose or tug her curls to annoy her, nudge her around when she didn't laugh at his jokes. And if -- he hoped she did -- but if she didn't feel the same way he did, then being able to be her best friend and just high five her now and then would still be enough. She wasn't just out of reach anymore.
Ayeeeee this just be sitting in my notes??? I found it like this??? All it needed was a title??? Speaking of, I might change that title and steal it for a sad fic oop

shouto watched the book light up in red flames, listening to the crackling sound of paper turning into ashes. out of boredom, he had set another old book on fire. he was tired of reading the same shit over and over again—didn't even matter that the book was bought by his father last year. the smoke slowly filled the room, leaving through the small window.
"shouto!"
the said man jerked away from his criss-cross position on the floor. he did not want another piece of furniture thrown at him the moment his father discovered his disobedience.
hurriedly, he covered the burning book with ice while also fanning the smoke out of his bedroom window with a small fan.
"squeak!"
"shush! go hide somewhere else other than my tunic!" he whispered to the small green rat, currently trying to slip inside his blue shirt.
"zuku, you little—" shouto hissed at the stubborn rat, halting his movement when he heard the oh so familiar voice of the devil. the shout of his father's loud voice echoed from outside once again, prompting him to scramble out of his room and into the main floor of the tower.
the window was shoved open and in came the large figure of his father. he quickly regains his composure, rubbing the darkened part of his cuffs on the back of his pants.
"welcome back, father."
i really wished you just stayed away, though.
enji stared down at the red-white boy, shoving what seems to be a pair of large bags in his arms and proceeding to open a cabinet from one of the corners of the tower. shouto's curiosity was piqued. his father only ever opens that cabinet when he goes out to hunt. the last time he checked, which was just a few hours ago, their poultry stock was enough to last them for a few weeks.
as if reading his mind, enji spoke with a grunt, his voice rough.
"we're leaving this tower."
what?
shouto's didn't expect to hear those ridiculous words from his father. his eyes immediately turn to the open window, still trying to process the words that his father told him. no matter how hellish this place was, it was still the spot where he has the perfect view of the stars when they rose up to the night skies. he wasn't even sure if they were really stars—they were floating up to the night sky, do stars do that? but it reminded him of those little twinkling things.
why did it have to be on the day when the stars rise? on his damn birthday?
with a heavy heart and a dampened mood, he mustered the courage to ask his father.
"may i know why?"
"i saw a troop of the palace guards outside, we'll leave this place before they can find it. it's not safe here anymore, if we don't leave they might take you away. i must hide you from their greedy little brains," his father spat. shouto had to restrain himself from rolling his eyes in fear that the older man might see him.
it sounds very lovely to be taken far far away from you.
"i see," shouto, with a grim look on his face, gives the window a last look before turning his gaze back to his father.
"we leave at dusk. i'll go out to get some more supplies and by the time I get back, you have to be ready to head out," he gives shouto a narrowed look, his voice firm and commanding, "am I understood?"
"yes, father."
without sparing him another glance, enji rushed down the tower, disappearing and leaving shouto to his own demise. the young man plops on the ground, eyes staring back at his reflection in the mirror. he doesn't want to leave. he'd rather go out alone and be smuggled and killed by some ruffians than to follow that horrible man to the depths of the world.
"i want to go outside," he whispers to the air.
but shouto knows nothing about the world outside. his father only ever told him about how cruel people are, their greediness, and how they want to kill him for his curse.
"i wished i was never born with this curse," his hand went up to trace the pattern of his scar, something he got from defying his father and trying to set a foot outside.
he dreams of a life where he lives as a normal boy with a mother, where he doesn't need to hide from anyone and be able to explore the world.
"squeak..."
his gaze fell to the small rat on his lap, giving it a small smile when it playfully bit his clothes and tugged.
"you'll come with me, right, zuku?"
the rat seems to squeak an agreement, climbing its way up to rest on his shoulder and nudge his cheeks. he stifles a laugh at its affection, before something caught his attention.
the sound of something sharp embedding itself between the tower walls.
someone's trying to climb the tower.
his eyes widen at the realization. It can't be his father, he just left moments ago so it must be some of those palace guards that he was talking about. pushing himself to stand up, he scurries to search for something he could protect himself with until his eyes caught sight of a frying pan.
an old, rusty pan.
better than nothing!
he makes a grab for it and presses himself flush against the wall by the window with the frying pan raised in preparation for an attack. the rat on his shoulder squeaks in fear on his shoulder, hiding in his collar.
"who the hell would live in a seventy feet tall tower with no other entrance than a single fucking window?"
shouto stops breathing, his nerves shaking and sweat rolling down his forehead.
they're here...
the window opens and in comes a single person.
without missing a beat, shouto swung the frying pan down with the little strength he has, hitting the stranger on the back of their head and rendering them unconscious.
thud!
with the pan held close to his chest and a pair of nervous eyes, he drew closer to the figure for a better look, face flat on the cobbled floor of the tower. slowly, he gave the stranger's shoulder a timid nudge.
the body did not respond, not even the slightest twitch.
"are you alright?"
"squeak!"
zuku hisses, his thin tail slapping young man's cheek—although it did nothing but tickle the latter. the green rat scrambles off of shouto's shoulder and onto the floor, sprinting near the unconscious trespasser.
"zuku?"
the rat's tiny nose brushes against the stranger's ear, sniffing. then, his tiny forepaw pokes the back of their ear, squeaking quietly.
"are they alive?"
"squeak!"
shouto does not know whether to take that as a yes or a no, but when zuku jumps on the stranger's back, he's pretty sure they're alive. otherwise, zuku would have gone away with a scared hiss.
shouto steps over the unknown body, pushing the door of the window close. the bright sun outside reminded him of his father's departure and the two bags on the ground.
he needs to think of a solution before dusk, or else his father would flip at the sight of a stranger.
"what am i going to do?" he sighs tiredly, glaring at the stranger.
shouto took baby steps toward the stranger, crouching down to poke them on the shoulder once more.
"squeak!" zuku protested.
"what am i supposed to do?"
zuku pranced away from the two, making its way across the room to a chair. he squeaks, his head gesturing to the said furniture.
"oh!"
shouto perks up, and hurries over to the chair the rat is squeaking excitedly at before carrying the same chair to the center of the room. he then comes back to the figure lying on the floor, awkwardly trying to carry them in his arms. he looks at the rat for advice.
"how?"
zuku squeaks, encouraging the young man.
he decided to just drag the body across the floor. while he does so, zuku keeps squeaking at him—scolding him for carelessly doing so. finally, he succeeded in setting the stranger on the chair.
for the first time since they had entered the tower, he saw her face.
other than his father, shouto has never seen another human in his sixteen years of living—not even a single woman. his fingers reached up to trace the skin of her face, his eyes wide with awe. is the world filled with beautiful faces like this one in front of him? if so, why does his father call them 'ugly' and 'barbarians'?
the slight scrunch of the her face broke shouto from his trance, jerking away from the chair.
what were you thinking, getting distracted like that?
while trying to search for anything that will keep the stranger in place, he noticed the satchel on her shoulder, close to falling off of her limb.
"zuku, what is that?"
the latter squeaks in curiosity, tilting its tiny head—the same way shouto has his.
carefully, he takes the worn-out handle of the satchel, taking it in his lithe hands. through the thin material of the satchel, he can feel a sharp circular object, with sharp edges poking out of its form.
"ow," he hisses when one of his fingers pressed too hard on the sharp edges.
he opens the flap of the satchel, before reaching inside to pull out whatever the object was.
"what is this?"
amazement widens his eyes as his jaw went slack at the rich gold glistening back at him, like the warm glow of the floating stars he sees every year from the window. it was sparkling against the dim light, the small shiny stones twinkling.
"it's like the stars, zuku," the awe was evident in shouto's voice as he admires the circular object in his hand.
he wants to know whatever this thing is.
"maybe we can ask her when they wake up?" zuku squeaks in agreement, still staring at the sparkling stones.
shouto brought his attention back to the stranger, her peaceful sleeping face brought him back in his trance once again.
it dawned upon him after he secured the unconscious figure on the chair.
if humanity is as beautiful as this stranger, then he'd love to see the outside world in its full glory.

S3E2 Return of the King Review Part 2
Let's Dive right in, shall we?
Tumblr media
Ok, I've noticed that Rapunzel gets annoyed rather quickly, and shows it. This is good for her, yes, she is portraying her emotions instead of smiling through it now, but I wonder if some of it is from Cass, some left over anger at her. Just a thought and I don't really know how to explain it but you get it, right?
Tumblr media
Awww, they're bonding.
Also, you're telling me that "The Kingdom and I aren't exactly 'simpatico' at the moment." Is from the books? And Eugene is just straight up quoting them. Fitzherbert you dork!
Also, "And people think it's a kids book, adults everywhere appreciate the nuance of Flynn Rider's Adventures." I see you Disney, and I appreciate you.
Tumblr media
I just love all the facial expressions that are in this picture. Also throwing the pudding into his face, priceless.
Eugene looking hot af before kicking him down.
"He can tell a lot by looking into a man's eyes!" Zach you've done it again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This fight scene is great. Eugene literally swats that Stabington on the ass and him jumping in surprise made me laugh.
Also Eugene's face when he made Stabington do the splits is priceless.
Tumblr media
I kinda figured that Edmund stole the sash to begin with. But the fact that Eugene is so mad at him breaks my heart just a bit.
Zach's got some more great voice bits here, too.
The animation is so smooth and the way they animate Eugene's hair is a touch that wasn't required, but sure is welcomed and appreciated.
Tumblr media
Is that the dam from the movie? I think it is.
This is a great scene and the fact that Eugene pushes Max out of the way! Plus the time Eugene spends trapped with (Hemual? Is that how you spell it?) The crow.
The fact that most of the things that Eugene used to have were made to scam people is great.
Also really cute that Eugene pulls the book out and was going to read it before Rapunzel showed up.
Tumblr media
Once again, look how they animated the wind in Eugene's hair!
And Edmund telling Eugene that he thinks Rapunzel is amazing and Eugene saying "I know!" In that exiced little, look how great my girlfriend is, way. (Again, thanks Zach)
Tumblr media
So cute!
Tumblr media
Watching Rapunzel and Eugene play with the toys is wholesome, plus it's a nice not to Rapunzel calling a Yo-yo a Hey-hey and her not knowing the tricks that go along with it.
THIS IS THE SASH EUGENE WEARS IN THE WEDDING!
Did I say how much I love this show already? Well, I'll say it again.
The segment we get of Cassandra gave my some Avatar: the last Airbender vibes which is always promising. It also tells us that these episodes may look like fillers but play a huge role in the long run.
Love love love this episode. Anything Eugene focused is always my favorite. Edmund is funny and I love watching the father son relationship grow.
There are a few questions I have that I hope will be answered later. One being, what happened to the King and Queen? Why did Eugene call her queen, and she corrected him with "technically I'm still a princess?" Are their memories still gone? I need to know!
10/10 love this episode. (Hate Horace 0/10 for that name) I plan on doing the next one, episode 3 Who's afraid of the big bad wolf, soon.

Guys
Quinton Flynn (Axel/Lea's voice actor) has also voiced the big cheese himself, Mickey Mouse. And done it rather flawlessly....
Because of this new info, I feel obligated to share this now

You're welcome
