They had a fight. He made a stupid choice that she just couldn't accept, so she left, never knowing it would probably be the last time they would see each other. Now, Noah is left to face the consequences of his actions; consequences that weren't supposed to affect her. He's broken and terrified life will never be the same again. If only God would take him first, then maybe he could be at peace.
“I wanna be someone you used to hate without the memory of the pain, but I went too far and now we can't restart. It's like we cut the breaks, tore ‘em off the car ninety miles inside the dark familiar scars, and electric hearts”
“Why! Why would you! How could you? What did she give you that I don't, Noah?” She screams at me, tears running down her face, the pain I caused her destroying every good memory of me she has. I couldn't believe I pushed her this far; that I pushed us to this point in our relationship. I couldn't give her the answer she wanted because the truth was I didn't have one. I fucked up. Bad. I fucked someone else, in our bed, when she was away at her parents. Granted I was drunk, but that was an excuse at all. Jolly told me not to do it. Folio said I'd lose her if I did. Nick just shook his head and walked away when I took the fifth shot given to me. Matt was refusing to speak to me. What the fuck happened? How could I be so over taken by a girl whose name I couldn't even remember?
Y/N stands up grabbing her keys and purse that are still on the floor where she dropped them a bit ago. “No, please baby,”
Y/N sits on the ottoman, holding her head in her hands. Her shoulders are shaking, and the only sounds are her quiet sobs. I want to comfort her. I want to go to her, take her in my arms, and apologize over and over until she believes me. I know she won't. I know
Y/N hates me. The cuts I've made so recklessly on her heart are too deep. I reach out to touch her, but she pulls away. “Don't you fucking touch me, Noah,” she screams, making me cringe. “Don't ever touch me again." She looks at me with so much distaste for the first time ever since we've been together. I can't stand to see her like this, so I make the choice to leave. “No, you asshole! You don't get the benefit of walking out on me when you're the one who made the wrong choice. I'm the one who gets to leave.”
“Don't you fucking dare, Noah. Don't you call me that. You do not have the privilege of calling me that anymore. I'm nothing to you now.” She glares at me with so much hurt, so much anger in her blue eyes. My body goes numb. The slamming of the front door makes me jump, signaling the end of us and the glow of her headlights as she backs out of the driveway says it's for good. I run into the kitchen and find the trash can just in time.
‐--------------------------------
“I know I'm gonna die in this bed I made, and I'm drowning in a dream that I can't escape. If I could wake up, I'd hesitate.”
“Where the fuck have you been? Why haven't you answered any of Matt's or my calls!” Jolly's voice is loud and his bitter tone tells me something bad has happened. “I fell asleep, Jolly, sorry man.” Jolly scoffs. “So fucking typically, Noah! You go off and break Y/N's heart, causing her to do something drastic that plays out like a fucking horror movie and you get to fall asleep. Yeah, fuck you mother,” “Whoa! Slow the fuck down, Jolly! I didn't intentionally fall asleep. I've been sitting here on my couch, crying for the past hour. What are you talking about?” “Are you sure? Didn't invite what’s her face back for a second round the moment  Y/N drove away?” There was dead silence. I clench my jaw, running my hand over my mouth, thanking god Jolly's not in front of me. My fist closes in a tight fist. “Fuck you, Jolly! Fuck you!” I yell into the phone. “It wasn't supposed to happen, okay? I had no intention of hurting Y/N. I love her and I know if I give her some space and some time we can work it out.” There was dead silence again. “Noah,” the way Jolly says my name is one-eighty from just a second ago. Something bad has happened. I can feel it. “Y/N’s been in an accident. She was hit head on by a drunk driver. It took the E.M.T’s almost an hour to cut her out. Once they did; there was no pulse. Her blood was everywhere, Noah. After a few tries of resuscitation they finally got a pulse. It was really faint, but it was there. I followed them to the hospital and Matt, Folio, and Nick met me here. We're all here. Everyone but you. Please come, Noah. Y/N needs you.
My eyes snap open from the vibration against my leg. As my eyes adjust to the light I realize I must have fallen asleep after sitting on the couch for I don't know how long after Y/N left; her NoFace hoodie still clenched in my hands. It's her favorite, and when I saw it laying on the back of the chair, a spark of hope ignited in me. Maybe if I give her a few days, we can talk. I reach into my pocket to answer the call, and when I look at my phone, I see nine missed calls from Matt and seven from Jolly. I answer before it becomes the eighth.

“But it’s too late to turn back now, Oh God, I tried but I don’t know, if I could escape it, I’d trade in the blame, you can take it. If it doesn’t take me first.”
I don’t know how I’m able to make it to the hospital in one piece, but I do. I text Jolly to find out where everyone is and follow the directions he gives me. My knees are weak. I’m shaking and can’t stop the tears that keep randomly falling. Y/N means everything to me; more than the band, the job, the money, fuck my own life. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do to protect her. If I lose her; if he takes her from me; I swear to “Noah!” The sound of my name distracts me from my thoughts. I realize I’m right where Jolly said to meet them, seeing Nicholas waving to me up ahead. Drying my face, I proceed to the waiting area. I’m greeted by fists bumps from both Folio and Nick, but Jolly only glares at me, while Matt refuses to even look at me. I know he and Y/N had a thing for each other before we started dating, but somehow I was the one who managed to grab her attention enough to say yes when I asked her out for the first time. The way her whole face lit up when I asked her still gave me butterflies and I found myself, once again, wondering what the fuck I was thinking when I cheated on her. I wasn’t; that's the whole problem.
“Any update?” I ask. Jolly just shakes his head as he continues to stare. “What?’ “Don’t fucking “what” me.” “Yeah, Jolly, I am. I know you hate me right now okay.” “Hate doesn’t even begin to cover it.” I look over at Matt who’s finally acknowledging my presence. “I know,” My gaze drops from him to the floor, unable to look at the pain in my friend's face. “How can you live with yourself right now, Noah?” Matt stands up and walks up to me. “How can you,” but he doesn’t finish, just continues to stare, making me uncomfortable. Matt begins to cry a little harder than he probably means to, and finally walks away towards the bathrooms, giving me some room to breathe. I wipe my eyes, erasing the guilt that’s started to seep again, taking a seat next to Folio who’s pretending to read an outdated motorcycle magazine. Hours pass, making the unknown feel like hell. My hell. The hell I deserve along with all of it's slow, agonizing torture of my soul as the seconds turn to minutes and minutes turn hours. I’m so anxious that I’ve bitten down all my nails and my left leg is aching from bouncing it up and down for too long. Laying my head back, I let myself drift back into one of my favorite memories of us; that time in Virginia.

“If you even think about touching me while I'm walking down this fucking muddy trail you so desperately wanted me to come on with you, I swear to the Lord above, Noah Sebastian, I will make you suffer. I hear you and Jolly back there!” “Babe, I have no idea what you're talking about. You must be hearing things.” I was trying my hardest to hide the snicker in my voice, but I knew Y/N was already on to me. When she turned around and looked at me, giving me her best angry face, I melted even more for her than I already had. She was fucking beautiful, sweet, and such a badass; she was mine. I smiled down at her, moving in a little closer and sliding my hand behind her head, bringing her in for a long kiss. I felt her body relax into mine, the same way she always reacted whenever I kissed her. “You already make me suffer; every moment that you're away from me.” Y/N pulled away from me, gazing into my eyes. “Awe, Noah,” she said, her bottom lip, that I desperately wanted to bite and suck on, protruding. The overwhelming way she made me so hard in a matter of seconds and also made me feel like I was the wealthiest and luckiest man in the world was something I was beginning to get used to. I was falling in love with her; and I wasn't afraid to admit it. “What? Why are you looking at me like that?” I chuckled at the sheepish grin that swept over her face that reddened her cheeks. “No reason. I just really love looking at you.” I kissed her one more time before taking her hand. “Come on. If you go down, then I'm going down too, how's that.” Her face brightened. “I like that,” she grinned. “Dude, this shit is fucking gross. I usually don't mind mud, but this,” Folio, groaned, lifting up his boot that was cover in thick, greenish, brownish mud. “Whose fucking idea was it to take this particular trail, anyway?” “Matt,” Jolly, Nicholas, Y/N, and I said in unison. “What the fuck! You know you could've said no,” Matt hollered, walking a little further ahead of us.
Just when I thought everything was good, the very next step Y/N took was our demise. Down, she went, ass to the mud, slipping and sliding a few inches down the trail, dragging me with her. Her squeals of I don't know at the point we're all that could be heard as she laid on her back, the back of her shirt and pants soaked in the god-awful muck. I held my laugh, suppressing it as much as I could even though Matt and Folio had already busted out laughing. “Babe? Baby, are you okay?” Even though my ass was wet and muddy, I knew it was nothing compared to Y/N's. Nick helped me up, wishing me luck, and I carefully made my way down the path to help her. Her eyes were closed, and for a second, I thought maybe she was seriously hurt. “Y/N, are you hurt?” I saw her grin before I felt the sting of the mud hit me in the face, slapping me relentlessly. “Shit!” I cried, wondering if this was how bad Y/N's ass felt every time I spanked it during sex. If so, maybe I should find a different kink. “Fucking hell, that hurt.” “ Yeah? Well so does my back, fucker,” she lashed out even though it was through a laugh. “Fair enough.” I squatted next to her, offering my support, only to have her tackle me and push me into the mud. “There, now we're even,” she giggled, leaning over top of me. She kissed me, slipping her tongue slyly into my mouth, sending all kinds of signals through my body. But the bad boy side of me wanted revenge as I grabbed a handful of mud and smashed it in the side of her face. A look of great surprise flashed across her face as her eyes widened. I had a feeling I was going to regret that later on, but knowing how fucking amazing intense rough sex was with Y/N, I gladly welcomed it with open arms.  Pretty soon, after a few more handfuls of back and forth mud throwing, Y/N and I were covered in mud. But we were happy; she was the perfect image of what my happiness was.
“If you two children are finished, the rest of us grown-ups would like to finish our hike.” “Fuck you, Karlsson,” I said, holding up the middle finger to Jolly who playfully smiled as he passed us, refusing to help either one of us up. “What the fuck ever, I guess it's you and me Babe,” I announced, looking over at Y/N. “Yeah, just like always.”
“I lie to myself like it's not too late, convinced the past can still be changed, We know it's gone, but I can't move on I wanna rewind, but it just replays Jumping on a hand grenade, but it won't go off , no, it won't go off.
The love we made that night was some of the best we'd ever had. I fucked her so slowly, soft at first then harder each time she cried out for more, taking my time to make sure she felt every part of me while I tried to commit to memory every way she felt while I was side her. It was the first time I'd ever made her cum more than twice. She fought with me at first, told me she wasn't letting me anywhere near her because of what happened earlier. “Me withholding sex from you is your punishment,” she said. So, I wrestled her, showing her just how dominant I could be when she chose to be a brat, and I won in the end, obviously. I left my handprint on her ass, caring nothing about the way it might have felt, like I did earlier. Y/N was mine; and she needed to be reminded that she was. Then there was the way she rode me, hands pressing hard against my chest as I watched her enjoy the pleasure she was getting from me. Her breast's filled my hands as she took what she wanted from me, crying my name like an innocent prayer. I came so fucking hard that I left scratches down the sides of her legs. I don't think another night has ever topped that; not even the night that has led to this fucking hell I'm now sitting in. Deciding to take a walk, making Nick promise me he'll text me if there's news, I find myself wandering the Emergency Room halls.

Overwhelmed by the memories and the emotions, I enter the chapel that's here to bring whatever comfort a person longs for in their time of need. It's empty; just an altar, a cross, a lot of chairs, and a few dim lights. I take a seat closer to the front, wiping my eyes again, though this time I'm not ashamed of the tears. I deserve them. I fucked up so bad and now I'm left in Y/N’s wake to deal with the guilt and heartache that will haunt me for the rest of my life. I bit my knuckles while slowly rocking back and forth, letting the tears of anger, tears of hurt and pain, tears of fear, run down my cheeks and fall to the floor below. Then I begin to do something I haven't done since I was a kid; something my grandma taught me to use in the moments when I didn’t know what else to do; I pray.
“I know you're listening; I know you can hear me. Y/N is fucking innocent. She doesn't deserve to pay for the crimes I've committed.” I squeeze my eyes closed, releasing more tears, sniffling. “I know I've fucked up and I'm guessing I've made you pretty angry if you think an innocent girl deserves to take my place in death. But, I'm telling you now,” stopping as my voice starts to break apart. I'm sobbing, falling to my knees as my hands drape over the back of the chair in front of me. “God, I'm fucking begging you, take me first. Switch our places, somehow, some way and fucking take me first. I can't live with this pain, God!” I drop down seething through my teeth. “Ughhh, fucking shit, motherfucker! It hurts too much, do you hear me!” I push the chairs in front of me so hard they go flying and hit the bottom of the altar. That's all it takes before I'm lifting chair after chair and throwing it across the room. “I'm sorry I hurt her, I'm sorry I broke her heart, just please, I'm fucking begging you, don't take her from me. Take Me First.” My shoulders slump and my arms fall to my sides. I'm out of breath, crying in between each one. I’m emotionally drained and feel uncomfortably numb, so numb that I don't feel the vibration of my phone at first. I pull it out not expecting what I see.
Nick: Y/N'S AWAKE!!!! GET HERE NOW!!!
Everything around me stops. A loud ringing echoes in my ears, piercing the very inner and making me cringe. This can’t really be how it works is it? I get pissed off, throw a fit, and my prayer is answered; there’s more to it, right? My eyes drift upwards, and I’m suddenly feeling a little ashamed. Especially when I take a look around the room and see the mess I’ve made. Fuck. I’m going to have to clean this up before I leave the hospital. But first I need to go see Y/N. “Thank you,” I whisper as I walk toward the door to leave, but before I do I turn around and focus on the simple cross sitting in the middle of the table at the foot of the altar. Suddenly, hope doesn’t seem impossible. I believe more now than before, that Y/N and I might be able to fix this horrible broken mess.
All the guys are in the room surrounding Y/N. She’s lying in the hospital bed, hooked up to all kinds of machines with tubes and cables attached to her and going everywhere. One of her legs and arms are in a cast, and a huge bandage is wrapped around her head. Bruising is visible on her face along with a busted lip. Seeing all of this shatters my heart into a million pieces, destroying what little bit of it was left. I stand outside the room, gazing in on her. Matt’s at her side, holding her hand, talking to her about god only knows what. Probably anything to distract her from reality, and she’s partially smiling at whatever he’s saying. Despite everything, Y/N looks happy. When her eyes shift to look at me, I see the same beautiful light in them I’ve grown used to seeing all these years and I can’t help but smile back, causing everyone to turn and look my way.
Nicholas comes out wearing a grave expression that chills every part of me. I know what he’s about to say isn’t easy, so I brace myself for it. He takes me by the arm, pulling me off to the side, out of Y/N’s sights. “What is it Nick? What’s wrong? Y/N’s dying isn’t she? She’s not going to make it, shit, oh my god,” I run my hands through my hair as I turn back around and stare back into the room at her. I’m shaking so bad I can barely stand, so I brace myself against the wall for support. "Will you chill the fuck out Noah, just for a minute, and listen to me! Y/N’s not dying. She’s going to be okay. She has a lot of injuries that are going to take a lot of time to heal, but she’s going to be fine.” I exhale, looking Nick in the eyes for the first time. “Really?” I ask, through blurry eyes. He smiles at me, throwing his hand on my shoulder. “Really, bro. She’s good. But there is something you’ve got to know. She said she didn’t want to tell you herself because you might not believe her.” My forehead creases as I frown. “What do you mean, something else?” Nick licks his lips, looks over into the room, and takes a deep breath. “Nick, what the fuck dude, what is it?” His green eyes meet mine and in absolute seriousness he says, “Y/N’s pregnant.”

Summer, before senior year
House parties on a warm summer night in august only led to a few things like drinking, rumors, fighting and of course sneaking around whether that be with your significant other or someone else, but for Matt it unfortunately was with some girl who he’d never even care to learn her name. He never thought he’d be that guy but sometimes things get carried away but he knew you’d never forgive him.
“Hey! Where's Matt?” you asked while stumbling towards Nick, your drink splashing around in the flimsy red solo cup.
You noticed the way Nick tried ignoring your question by giving a disappointed look to Chris who awkwardly interlocked his arm with the girl he’d brought to the party and made a lame excuse to walk away and leave this conversation.
“He left with a girl, you should really try calling him. I’m sorry y/n” Nick said, giving you an apologetic smile as he pushed his way through the crowd to catch up to his other brother.
You tried dialing Matt however it went straight to voicemail every time and after hearing ‘Hey it’s Matt leave a message’ four times you quit trying to reach him. Deciding it was best to go home, you quickly climbed the stairs to your best friend's house to grab your cardigan from her bedroom to try to cover up the short skirt you wore so you could walk home alone.
The next morning you woke up to many messages and missed calls from Matt. You scrolled through the messages of him begging to talk to you but you sent back a quick ‘It’s over, please leave me alone’ and turned your phone off falling back asleep.
September, beginning of senior year
The first two weeks back were rough having to switch homerooms the last year of highschool. You tried your best to keep a smile on your face for your friends but it was hard since they were all asking what had happened between you and Matt who was supposed to be your highschool sweetheart.
“Y/n, I won’t make assumptions about why you switched your homeroom, but was it because of me?” You heard behind you as you were putting your textbooks away into your locker for the day.
“I don’t want to talk to you Matt” You said quietly while closing your locker and picking up your backpack ready to walk home.
“Can I at least drive you home?” He begged while following behind you towards the door. You continued walking out the door while trying your best to ignore him.
“I know you heard the rumors from Nick, but you can’t ever believe a word he says most times.” You scoffed at his words as you turned to face him.
“But this time it was true, you can’t lie to me anymore Matt” You said as you crossed your arms.
“That's why I said most times y/n, the worst thing that I ever did was what I did to you” He said while dropping his hands on both of your shoulders.
“That’s not an apology, and don’t bother apologizing because I won’t ever forgive you” You said confidently while pushing his hands off your shoulders. You quickly walked away leaving him there so he was surrounded by nothing but his thoughts.
October, halloween weekend
Halloween parties might be even better than summer parties but after what had happened back in august you just didn’t feel up to it.
“If I could change the world I’d make it halloween every single day, oh and also have world peace” Your best friend said while hiding anything breakable or expensive her parents had in their house.
“Shouldn’t world peace be first?” You questioned her before heading upstairs to change into your costumes.
“I want you to have fun tonight and forget about everything else, I want the old fun y/n back” She said before holding up a pair of mouse ears stating that she was supposed to be a sexy mouse. You didn’t respond to that and instead pulled out a pair of black cat ears from your backpack so you guys could take pictures before everyone else got there. A few hours have passed by and you were well beyond your second drink when a friend of yours pulled you to the side to tell you someone was asking for you out on the porch. Confused yet intrigued you walked out onto the porch only to see Matt leaning against the railing attached to the stairs.
“Can we please talk about it?” He asked while the people out on the porch sipped their drinks trying their best not to stare at the two of you.
“Fine” Was all you responded with as you walked down the stairs and headed around to the small garden located on the side of the house. Matt was fully expecting you to tell him to go fuck himself but to his suprise you willingly led him to the garden so that you guys could have a conversation in private and not in front of all these party goers.
“It was just a summer thing, I’m only seventeen and I don't know anything. But I do know how much I miss you” He noticed the way you hugged yourself as you shivered because of the cold gust of wind. Matt quickly pulled his sweatshirt off of him, noticing the way you glanced down at his exposed stomach before fixing his t-shirt and handing you his sweatshirt.
“I’m not asking you to forgive me for what I did but I can’t pretend to ignore you anymore, I miss you so much” Matt said, choosing to look down at the ground instead of looking at you. Before answering him you put his sweatshirt on which completely covers your black dress and reaches down past your knees, the sleeves also too big hiding your hands. You missed him just as much but you never wanted to admit that to him.
“If you drive me home maybe I’ll consider being your friend again” You suggested while looking up at him to see a smile form on his face. You excused yourself to go gather your belongings from your friends room quickly pushing past the people who gathered in the house. You walked back outside with your backpack and cardigan in hand and followed Matt back to his car down the street. After tossing your backpack and cardigan in the backseat of his car you shut the back door but before you could open the door to the passenger seat Matt quickly but gently turned you around as your back hit the car and pulled you in for a soft gentle kiss. You pulled away before placing a hand on his chest.
“Matt I’m sorry but we can’t” You said as you felt the tears starting to fall down your cheeks. He quickly apologized before heading around to the driver's side so he could start the car and get you home like you had asked of him in the first place. The drive back to your house was silent besides the few sniffles you had let out from crying. As he pulled up to your driveway you quickly got out of the car and opened the back door to grab your backpack and in the process you had accidentally dropped your cardigan on the floor of his car completely forgetting about it because you just wanted to get to bed after this exhausting horrible night.
After that night you decided it was best to not think about it and focus on school. Many months passed and Matt had only attempted to talk to you a couple of times but you always told him the same thing.
“I’m sorry but I don’t see this working out” Was all you could say to him, and it was the truth even though it hurt to admit that.
June, moving on
The school year had flown by and you found yourself applying to different colleges and trying to pick out the perfect outfit for graduation. You were still friends with Nick because after all he had done nothing wrong to you. He recently told you that after graduation him and his brothers were moving out to Los Angeles to further grow their YouTube career. You were happy for them because they worked hard to get to where they were, you knew one million subscribers was a huge accomplishment for them.
Your parents had forced you to do some spring cleaning so you decided that your closet was the perfect place to start. You had two different piles of clothes, one to keep and one to donate. Down in the corner of your closet was an all too familiar sweatshirt thrown on top of a pair of white Nike air forces. You picked up the sweatshirt neatly folding it and putting it in the keep pile, then deciding to leave the boys shoes in the same spot he left them in.
A few blocks down from your street Matt had been helping his brothers pack their stuff and getting ready for their big move to Los Angeles. He decided to deep clean his car because he had decided to sell it in order to buy a better car in LA. While cleaning the backseat he came across what was a white cardigan laying on the floor. He missed you so much but he knew he needed to keep his distance like you had asked of him. He decided to take the cardigan inside and wash it with the rest of his laundry. After washing it he placed it on his bed until the next morning when he decided to drive over to your house knowing you would most likely be at work but your mother would be home.
Matt sighed before encouraging himself to walk up your driveway and knock on your front door. Your mother answered the door excited to see Matt because it had been a while but then regretfully having to tell him you weren’t home.
“I know y/n’s not home, I just wanted to return her cardigan that was in my car before I left for California. Don’t worry I washed it” He said trying to keep a smile on his face.
“I’m sure she will appreciate this, she's been looking everywhere for it” The woman said as she took the piece of clothing from his hands. Matt would never admit it but he never wanted to let it go but he knew the right thing was to return it. Before this could get any more awkward Matt said his goodbyes and quickly got back in his car to drive home.
After getting home from work you quickly went upstairs to your room where you noticed the missing cardigan folded on the bottom of your bed. As your mom walked by your room she told you that Matt had dropped it off this morning and that he was leaving for California soon. So many memories started flooding your brain, the good and the bad ones. You quickly wiped the tears away that started forming in your eyes because you knew that was his way of telling you he was finally moving on and all you wanted was for him to be happy.

handing out candy with matt on halloween and him getting excited with all of the little kids about their costumes and being like "omg you look so cool/cute" or something like that?? Idk I feel like he'd be so excited about/with all of the little kids/he'd be so good with them
❝𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭❞
Tumblr media
children's dialogue is green | not edited, lowercase intended
matt and i have been looking forward to this day for months since we moved into our own house. october was my favorite month and i loved to decorate and truly embrace the spirit of halloween. our neighborhood is mostly younger children so i kept the decorations kid friendly.
matt was eager to help me decorate. he decided to change to porch lights to orange bulbs to and i quote “feel like we’re in a pumpkin”. he covered every inch of the entryway in cobwebs, like every inch. this cute bat garland from etsy hung meticulously under the porch roof as if they were flying. a mix of orange and white pumpkins decorated the stairs, some carved, some not. warm tones string lights entwined around the railing beautifully lit up the entrance.
the chime of the doorbell has been leaping out from my spot in seconds. grabbing the bowl of candy, i open the door and am met with a 4 year old in a dinosaur costume.
“trick or treat” the little voice says.
“can you show me your biggest roar” i ask.
“rooooaaaarrr”
“oh my goodness you scared me” i say dramatically with my hand on my chest. “that deserves 3 pieces of candy” reaching my hand out to put it in the little pumpkin basket.
“thank you”
“you are so welcome have fun” i tell the little dinosaur before wishing the parents a good night.
closing the door i'm met with matt leaning against the wall. “that was adorable”
matt and i have decided to take turns answering the door, watching the other from afar.
“trick or treat” a sweet voice sings. matt crouches down to the little girl’s height not wanting to scare her. “you are the prettiest princess ever! i love your dress it’s so sparkly” he says in a soft, endearing tone, earning a giggle from the tiny princess.
as he closes the door he puts his hand on his chest and softly exhales.
“their tiny costumes are so cute" he gushes. He walks into the kitchen to grab a drink as the doorbell chimes again. "I got it".
i gasp with excitement when i open the door to find a little boy as winnie the pooh and a little girl as piglet. the little girl had the same reaction when she saw me.
"rapunzel! mommy it's rapunzel!" the girl's face lit up with joy as she clings to her mom.
i kneel down to her height, using my body to keep the door propped open. "i've always wanted to meet piglet and pooh, what a lovely surprise this is!". The little girl is hesitant, wanting to hug me but also anxious. "would you like a hug sweetheart it's not everyday you get to meet a princess" i softly smile, holding my hand out for her. with some princess encouragement she makes her way into my arms.
"where's flynn?" the little girl questions, slightly pulling back from the hug to look at me but still holding onto me.
"i think i saw him not long ago, how about we call out his name to see if we can find him?" i suggest, fully embracing my role as rapunzel.
we call out for flynn who took no time to show up. as he gets closer i can here him ask "what do we have here?". i tell him "we have surprise visitors who have travelled a long way to see us". the shy girl peeks at matt as pooh stands beside me.
matt crouches beside me, sensing she's nervous. he extends his hands out, one for each kid. "rapunzel and i were just talking about how we wanted to go to the 100 acre woods to see you, and here you are!"
the little girl removes herself from my hold, grasping her hand around one of matt's fingers and gives him a hug. before she can pull away pooh joins in on the hug. i can feel my eyes about to tear up. blinking them away, i rest my hand on matt's shoulder giving it a little squeeze. just as he sends me a soft smile the parents are telling their kids they need to keep going. as matt releases them from the hug, i grab the candy bowl and let them pick what they want out.
the family heads down the path, turning to wave goodbye, matt pulls me into his side wrapping his arm around my waist. "we'll see you soon friends" i say in a cheery voice.
shutting the front door matt and i looked at each other, eyes filled with love. "that made my night, that was the cutest thing ever!" matt pulls me close to him by my waist as my arms make their way to his neck. we embrace each other for a while just relishing in this moment we've talked about for years.
"i can't wait for that to be our kids one day. dressing them up in tiny adorable costumes for them to show off" he whispers. "you were so good with them, how you got her to come give you a hug despite being scared, she felt safe in your arms. you'll be the best mom one day."
"our kids are gonna be the coolest you already know that. i was gonna say the same about you, how gentle and sweet you were with them. i can't wait for a lifetime of trick or treating with you.

Joe smiled as he watched you on the monitors from the directors tent as you laughed with your young co-star, Grace, who played your daughter. He was hiding from you since this was a technical scene and he didn't want you to be distracted by his presence. He had flown in yesterday, with permission from the Duffers, to the south of France so he could surprise you on set of their new horror movie.
The movie was about a young mother named Bliss who inherited an old château after the death of a great aunt she never knew. Your character was adopted by a loving family in America after her parents died and she grew up knowing nothing of her biological family. Bliss, her daughter, Hailey, and Bliss' older adopted brother Marcus all came to the south of France to clean and sell the house, not realizing the house holds a creature known only as the Boogeyman until he starts to terrorize them.
It's been a long couple of months but from the video calls you've done he can see that you've been having a blast filming. He was glad he had convinced you to audition for the role, and had even helped you film your tapes. So when your agent called on behalf of the Duffers for the main character he pushed you to take the role, after seeing how much fun he had on the set of Stranger Things you were biting for the chance to work with the brothers. He remembered when he had to calm you one night before filming had even started.
You were excited and nervous as the time for filming drew closer. "Is this a good idea babe?" You asked as you packed your bags a week before the filming began.
"Why wouldn't it be?" Joe asked, folding a shirt for you as he sat on the bed you shared in your London flat, watching you as you paced from the closet to the bed with a few more shirts.
"It's just I'll be gone for months. You'll be all alone here and I'm going to miss you." You said with a pout as you dropped the clothes on the bed when he pulled you between his legs with his hands on your waist giving you a gentle shake.
"I know love. I'll miss you too, but this is a big opportunity for you and I would hate for you to pass on this and regret it later in your career." Joe smiled up at you, his chin on your stomach. "Besides it's not like we'll never see each other, we'll FaceTime just like we did when I was in Atlanta."
"That's true. We'll be okay. Won't we?"
"We'll be okay." Joe said with a nod. Letting your waist go he reached up, placing a hand on the back of your neck pulling you into a kiss. "Everything will be fine my love."
And he was right. You had made so many great friends and memories on this set, calling Joe every night when you got in bed to tell him all about it. The Duffers didn't disappoint with this film and you were even more excited for when the world got to see it.
"Joe! You made it!" Matt Duffer said as he walked into the tent clapping Joe on the shoulder while they shook hands.
"I did! How've you been, mate?"
"Just great! Your girl is a dream to work with! Thank you for convincing her to do this!"
"I knew she'd be perfect for it!" Joe smiled as he crossed his arms over his chest as pride swelled in him as he turned back to look at you on the monitors. Even when you were covered in fake blood and bruises you were the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.
"Alright," Matt said as he took his seat and put on his headphones, grabbing the microphone and getting ready for filming to start. "Can we clear the set please? Everyone to their places."
Joe sat in the available chair as he watched you jog down the opulent hallway away from the little girl and grabbed the prop gas can that sat on the floor. It was a large pyrotechnic scene so everything had to be perfect. Giving a thumbs up to the camera you smiled as you got into character.
"Cameras rolling and action!"
Bliss moved quickly as she poured the gas from the can down the hallway towards her daughter, tossing it to the side when it was empty and ran to the little girl grabbing her in her arms and pulling her up so she sat in her left hip while she shoved her hand into her right pocket to grab the zippo lighter.
"Mommy!" Hailey screamed pointing down the hallway as the Boogeyman appeared where Bliss had just been.
"He can't hurt you." Her mother said as she flicked the lighter open expertly on her thigh watching as the flame burst to life. Holding it out in front of her she breathed heavily as she glared at the monster in front of her.
The inhuman wail that sounded from the beast made her flinch as she gripped the lighter tightly.
"What do we say to the Boogeyman baby?"
"I'm not afraid of you!" Hailey yelled as her mother dropped the zippo, turning away clutching the girl for dear life and running out of the house as the gas caught flame and the hallway went up in an inferno.
The Boogeyman wailed again rushing down the hallway towards them as it caught fire.
"Cut! That was perfect!" Matt yelled as he watched the stuntman in the Boogeyman costume be put out with fire extinguishers by his fellow stuntmen. Getting the thumbs up he was waiting for, confirming the stuntman was okay he looked over at the others in the tent. "Check the gate."
They waited a few more minutes before it was declared a successful shot and the day was called a wrap.
Joe clapped with everyone else as he watched you high fived Grace, gave her a hug, and a wave as she walked away with her mother for a good night's rest. Grabbing the water bottle you usually use he said a quick goodbye to Matt and made his way towards you as you searched for the wayward bottle by your chair. He convinced your assistant to give it to him before filming that last shot so he could surprise you.
"Where the hell did it go?" You muttered as you searched your chair and bag for it. You just wanted to get to the apartment you were renting and shower before you called Joe.
"Looking for something, my love?" He asked as he got close enough to you holding it up for you to see when you looked at him.
"My water bottle.." You said still searching your bag for a moment before his voice registered. Your head snapped up looking at him with wide eyes as you let out a shocked gasp. "Joey!!"
He quickly placed your bottle on your chair and grabbed your waist with a laugh as you launched yourself at him. Hugging you to him tightly as he felt you start to cry. "Shh, it's okay love. Why are you crying?"
Holding on to him like a koala you buried your makeup caked face into the side of his neck as you cried. "I'm ju-just s-so happy to s-see you."
"I've missed you," Joe said, kissing the crown of your head.
"I've missed you so much." You said pulling back so you could look him in the eye. Wiping under your eyes you blinked at the makeup on your hands. "Oh shit I'm all gross and I got you all gross. This fake blood will ruin your shirt."
"I'll buy a new shirt, love." He smiled, running a hand up and down your spine. Bending down a bit he brought his lips to yours giving you the first kiss you've shared in months. Breaking away he moved his hands to cup your face and rubbed his thumbs over your cheeks. "What do you say to a hot shower and some dinner?"
"Yes, please." You nod as you move away to grab your bag and the no longer missing water bottle before you grab his hand leading him towards the hair and makeup trailer to remove the wig you had on. "I'm starving. Oh! I can't wait for you to see the apartment!"
"I can't wait to get you into that bed." He laughed following you with a squeeze to your hand.
"Oh my god!"

Trevor zegras Dilf!Day
Can you do a labor and delivery of there 3 child and what the babies name is
happy dilf day!
“Well that could’ve gone smoother” Trevor laughed from beside your bed as you glared up at him.
“Oh I’m sorry was the last 10 hours hard for you?” You ask sarcastically. It was a long delivery this time around. You thought that after the first kid, it got easier which definitely was the case with Lucas but this time, it was just as difficult as your first time.
Thankfully, there weren't any complications and it was just your baby being stubborn but everything did go well and 10 short hours later, you had a healthy baby girl.
“Right, right. Are you good? Do you need anything?” Trevor suddenly remembered that you had just given birth and snapped into action, getting up from his chair to get you anything you wanted.
“I’m okay, do you want to call the guys?” This time, you figured it would be easier to just have the kids meet their new sister when you come home which meant there were no visitors coming in and your friends obviously had to meet her over FaceTime.
“Yeah, one sec” Trevor grabs his phone, sending a couple texts and then you hear his phone ringing; a moment later you see everyone on his phone in a Group FaceTime. Jack, Cole, Alex, Jamie, Pat, Matt, and a couple other guys are all floating around on Trevor’s screen, ready to meet your newest daughter.
“Y/n!” Your name is chorused through all the boys and it makes you laugh as they all start to talk over each other, asking if you were alright and how it went. It was almost like they had forgotten about your baby until Trevor tipped the phone to show her and they all stopped talking.
“What’s her name?” Cole asks and you look up at Trevor, letting him go ahead and announce it for the first time.
“Charlotte Paige Zegras” He smiled down at his little baby and pointed the camera so the guys could all coo over her. They stayed on for a few minutes, asking to send any and all photos in their group chat before hanging up, letting you finally get some rest while Trevor got some baby snuggles.
...
You pulled into your driveway to see Poppy and Lucas standing at the front door with your mom, anxiously waiting for you to bring them their baby sister. As soon as the car was parked and Trevor got out, they were sprinting to the car, attacking you both in hugs before trying to get past you to peek into the backseat.
“Go back inside, you guys” Trevor laughed, “We’ll bring her to you” He helped you out of the car before reaching in to get the car seat, letting you lead the way up to the house. You said hello to your parents before following the kids to the couch, waiting for Trevor to bring her in.
“She’s gorgeous” Your mom smiles as she looks over Trevor’s shoulder, into the carrier. “What’s her name?” Apart from Poppy and Lucas, you hadn’t told anyone her name before she was born.
“Charlotte Paige” You say softly, smiling down at your perfect little baby.
“Lemme see her!” Poppy shouts from the couch.
“Alright, alright calm down” Trevor sets the carrier down, carefully taking Charlotte out and walking over to Poppy. He places her little sister in her waiting arms and Lucas scrambles over to see.
“You’re a pro P!” Your mom says as Poppy expertly holds her baby sister.
“Because I held Lu too” Poppy explains which makes your mom laugh.
“Do you want to help Lu hold her?” You ask, moving to adjust Lucas so that he could hold her also. He started squirming when Poppy shook her head, whining for his turn and Trevor sighed before sitting with Lucas to hold Charlotte in his lap since he was still a little too young to hold her alone.
“I want to hold her!” Poppy reached for her again and you laughed.
“She’s not a toy babe” Poppy sighed dramatically as she fell back into the couch, “You’ll have lots of time with her don’t worry”
“Char Char” Lucas giggled and you smiled.
“Yeah dude, what do you think?” Trevor asked him.
“I like her” He smiled up at his dad. It was interesting to see the kids with a baby. When Lucas was born, Poppy was already old enough but this time with Lucas being two, it was a very different experience.
“I wanna call her Lottie” Poppy announces, “It sounds like Poppy”
“We have a lot of nickname options P, don’t worry, you can call her whatever you’d like”
“I’m gonna be her favourite because we’re girls and Lu is a boy” Poppy grinned, staring down at her sister.
“Maybe she’ll like Lu because he’s quieter” Trevor argues and Poppy’s jaw drops.
“She can’t help it Trev, she got it from you” You tease and now Trevor looks up at you with a slack jaw while Poppy laughs loudly. You suddenly remember you promised everyone pictures so you grab your phone, snapping a few of the kids before sending them off to your family and friends, then turning off your phone to soak up the peace before Charlotte wakes up crying, which you already know will just set both kids off.

Princess - M.S
[not proof-read]
The smoke in the air looked elegant, flowing between Matt and Ava. They were talking about everything and nothing, passing a joint between them. Laughing coming from both of them, they tried to hide the looks they shot each other. Matt and Ava had been best friends since elementary school, ever since that day Matt had offered to share his Lunchable with Ava and she accepted.
That is the reason Ava felt guilty when she looked at Matt wanting something more than just being best friends. She didn't want a relationship, but since Matt had gotten tattoos and his voice deepened she felt like she was going crazy just watching him do anything. She needed something else.
"Ava?" Matt sighs as her entire attention goes to him. "Yeah?" she smiles.
"What are you thinking about?" Matt asks curiously. Ava stays silent, as Matt eyes her up and down thinking she doesn't notice. They're sitting on the bench, the one they always used to sit at when they came home from school. Matt moves closer to Ava, but slowly putting an arm around her shoulders.
He grabs her jaw to make her look at him as she moans a little bit. Thinking she wanted to moan his name, in a different way. Slightly embarrassed at the way she moaned, just because he had grabbed her face. His hand traveling down to her thigh and squeezing it. She moans a little more, he chuckles.
"Is it that easy to make you horny?" Matt states looking intrusively at Ava's face. She is still looking down on her lap, but shocked. This is her best friend talking to her this way.
"Come on, princess. I need an answer." Matt says slightly more aggressive this time. Ava finally look into Matt's eyes and nods.
Matt grabs her throat with his free hand, wanting a reaction out of Ava which he gets. Her breath hitches and she starts breathing heavily.
"I want you to say it out loud for me." he demands. Ava's panties getting wetter by the minute. "Y-yes Matt, it is that easy." she whimpers.
"Good." he says before using the hand feeling her down, her neck, her tits and finally he lightly touches her pussy through her panties. She groans and spread her legs at his touch. He smirks at her willingness to give herself to him.
Ava moans, letting her head fall back. This wasn't the way she had imagined her best friend making a move on her, but fuck it was working.
Matt suddenly stops touching her, Ava whining at the loss of stimulation. "Come with me, and I'll show you what a good time looks like." Matt says harshly. Ava immediately stands up grabbing Matt's hand, following him in excitement. She couldn't believe that this was happening, like she had imagined many nights with her clutching her vibrator in her panties.
Matt had been in Ava's house many times so he knew the way to her bedroom like the back of his hand. Her parents out thankfully, Matt thinking to himself.
Matt pushes Ava to her bed in her bedroom. He leans in to kiss her but he doesn't continue. Ava tries to reach up to kiss him, and he laughs in her face.
"Y'think that easy with me?" Matt smiles looking down on you as he hovers over you. Ava whines, and Matt finally gives in. Attacking her lips, but not hurting her. He clearly has the overhand in this, controlling whether her tongue gets to meet his, or not. He uses his tongue to slowly drive her into that place she will beg for his cock to fill her up, he knows that this will work on her.
In one swift motion Matt takes off his shirt, as he starts making marks on her neck whilst he is tugging on her shirt. Ava sits up wanting to abide Matt's quiet orders but he beats her to it grabbing her shirt and pulling her shirt off, almost tearing it in two pieces.
Matt lifts Ava to unhook her bra, and when she is finally braless Matt focuses completely on her tits. "Fuck- just like I always imagined they'd look" he moans before diving into them to both violently grab them and his tongue searching for her nipples. Finding them, his muscle slowly making circles, making Ava throw her back once more again as she moans. Matt smirks into her right tit, as he continues.
He makes a mental note to himself to dedicate more time to her tits next time, but needing to see for himself how she was for him he continues down her stomach, kissing it. He ends up at her groin, rushing to pull her panties and pants in one move. Seeing how her pussy glistens in the light, with her arousal dripping waiting for him makes his dick throb.
"No, no..." she whines. Struggling to get the rest of the sentence out, he looks up at her. "Use your fucking words, princess." he demands.
"I ne- need you to fuck me now." she whines closing her eyes not wanting to see Matt's reaction. This only making him smirk, quickly moving his own boxers and jeans. Palming his big and throbbing dick watching Ava moving her hips wanting his very own cock.
"You better fucking take it." he spits. "Don't complain it's too big when you finally get me inside of you, okay?" he continues. Ava shots her eyes open.
"Y-yes I promise M-att." she moans genuinely. Pre-cum leaking from his very hard dick, he gives it a quick tug before lining himself with her pussy.
"Fuck, condom" he barely gets out. He rushes and opens her bedside table searching for condoms but instead finding a vibrator. He smirks as she widen her eyes.
"Fuck you weren't supposed to find that" she breathes. "What about it?" Matt chuckles.
"I don't care about the fucking condoms, just fuck me!" Ava whines touching herself all over her body. Matt's big dick wanting to do just that, he does not give a fuck anymore.
His dick finding Ava's slit, harshly teasing her clit with the tip of his cock before sliding it in her. She gasp at how big he is.
He slowly starts to thrust into her leaving her a moaning mess beneath him. Him getting more turned on by seeing his best friend for many years wanting him this bad. There wasn't many nights he wasn't touching himself watching Ava's pictures, so to finally get his dream come to real life he almost cums at the thought of it.
Ramming into her pussy his hands finds the vibrator that he had left besides her. He starts it and moves it to her clit, watching her body tremble feeling the sudden vibration.
"Fu- fuck just like that Matt..." she moans. He enjoys watching her unravel under his control.
"Mat-t I'm about to cum-..." she states moaning loudly. Matt directly puts his hand over her mouth, to shut her up. "You don't cum until I do." he is strict.
Knowing that Ava is close he moves his hips at a faster pace to get himself off and holding the vibrator closely to her pussy. He moans, almost dropping the vibrator as she had maxed the level of vibrations for her own pleasure. He notices this.
"I never said you could do that" he angrily says while bringing his hand to choke her. His dick rutting into her even more.
"I-.. I'm sor-sorry" she moans feeling closer to the edge. She does not believe that this is her best friend drilling into her, denying her orgasm. She gets closer and closer to the edge.
Matt keeps pounding her and moving the vibrator around to find her weak spot as she suddenly moans louder. He smirks, he had found her Achilles heel.
He feels his cock ready to cum, moaning himself. Ava finds this incredibly hot and she gets that familiar knot in her stomach.
"Fuck I'm filling you up, I don't give a fuck" Matt moans loudly while keeping the vibrator steady at that one spot. He twitches, and she feels his dick throb inside her as she also feels a warming sensation. This is enough to set her off as she moans loudly.
"Matt! Oh my fuck- fucking god...!" she moans. Matt watching her below him as he helps her out with riding out her high. Thrusting softly, while overstimulating both of them. He leans down to kiss her.
"Fuck I can't believe that we just did that" Ava says with the breath in her throat.
"I know, but you did good for me princess." Matt looks into her eyes and smiles, cuddling her.
[writing this while I'm drunk was actually an amazinb idea!]

A Place To Call Home: Brothers

Summary: An unexpected visitor makes the reader question if she knew everything she thought she did about her parents. Meanwhile everyone else is cautious about the whole situation, especially her dad and brother...
Masterlist
Pairing: Jensen x foster daughter!reader
Word Count: 3,800ish
Warnings: language, angst, minor illness, fluffy moments
A/N: This timestamp takes place after the Canada Trip timestamp...
______
“Y/N!” called your dad from the porch. “There’s some guy at the door looking for you, says his name is Matt Hemming?”
“Never heard of him,” you said, jogging up the steps, leaving Colin in TJ’s lap in the chair by the pool.
“He’s very insistent on seeing you,” he said, following you back inside and over to the front door. You stepped out with your dad on your tail, the man standing from the seat under the covered front porch. “Mr. Hemming. Y/N.”
“What can I help you with Mr. Hemming?” you asked. He stared at you, your dad taking a step just in front of you, enough to send a message. But your dad cocked his head, glancing back at you. “What?”
“I’m Matt Hemming,” he said, holding out a hand.
“Get to the point Matt Hemming,” you said, crossing your arms.
“Y/N his eyes,” muttered your dad. You rolled your own, Matt swallowing thickly and glancing away.
“What do you want?” you asked.
“I was adopted thirty eight years ago at birth in Houston. My biological mother gave me up at birth. She was a sophomore in college when she had me I understand. My biological father died a few years after I’ve learned. My-”
“Did I stay at the same foster house or something?” you asked.
“Y/N,” said your dad. He bumped your arm and gave you a look. “Listen to him.”
“What?” you asked.
“Y/N I’ve discovered my biological mother was killed in a car accident eighteen years ago along with her husband. She had a daughter that survived. My half-sister.”
“What.”
“Y/N I’m your half brother,” he said.
“And I’m fucking Santa Claus,” you said. He frowned and your dad scowled. “I don’t care if you are related to me. You aren’t getting a fucking cent out of me or my family, got it?”
“I’m a lawyer. I have more money than I know what to do with it. I found out three days ago I have a living relative. I just...I just wanted to meet my sister.”
“Oh I’m sure you did. You see the last name and see the money opportunity too?” you said.
“I should have listened to mom,” he said, turning and heading back to the driveway.
“We don’t have the same mom!” you shouted, your dad grabbing your shoulder.
“Yes we do,” he said, spinning on his heels. “She gave me up though and kept you so obviously I’m the fucking problem.”
“You’re a grown man. Grow up,” you said.
“You grow the fuck up, acting like a little rich bitch. Here I thought my sister who also lost her mom and was adopted might have something in common with me. I guess I was wrong about that,” he shot back.
“Whoa, whoa, Matt,” said your dad when Matt started to leave again. He stopped in his tracks, clenching his fists. “You don’t get to come drop a bombshell like that and then leave. Sit down, both of you.”
“I don’t want to talk to him,” you said. Your dad pointed and you sighed.
“He has the same eyes as you. I’ll wait for a blood test to confirm it but that guy might be your brother. I raised you better. Sit down and talk to him while I make a few calls.”
Your dad went inside and Matt crossed his arms, leaning against one of the posts. He kicked at the ground, glancing to you.
“You’re not my brother. Mom would never have given up her kid,” you said. “She had such a hard time having kids in the first place. She-”
“Oh get off your high horse. I don’t blame her for giving me up. Do you know what I’m a product of? Do I have to spell it out for you? What my sack of shit bio dad did?” he said. You shook your head and he nodded. “She was young and I don’t blame her for one second not wanting me around. I’m just glad I don’t look like him.”
“Why make contact now?” you asked.
“My wife thought it’d be fun to do one of those DNA ancestry things for my birthday a few weeks back because I’m adopted. It’s been so much fun,” he said with a roll of his eyes. “My parents said to leave it be. I should have listened to them.”
“People have claimed to be my long lost relatives before,” you said quietly.
“I can imagine. My parents are well off but nothing like yours.”
“Are you scared of spiders?” you asked. He smirked and nodded.
“Irrationally so my wife would say,” he said, taking a careful seat across from you. “Night owl?”
“Yeah,” you said, Matt rubbing his arm absently. “You grew up normal?”
“Yeah. Pretty boring ass normal life. I knew I was adopted from the time I was young but didn’t matter to me. College. Law School. Wife. A dog. Pretty standard. You didn’t get adopted until you were like almost eighteen right?”
“Yeah,” you said quietly. You looked down at the stone pavers, rubbing your heel against one.
“You got the short end of the stick,” he said.
“I never knew mom was hurt like that. She got the short end of it,” you said.
“You okay?”
“I will be,” you said, Zeppelin riding his bike down the driveway, parking it at the edge of the porch.
“Hi,” he said to Matt, Matt returning it with a small wave. “Y/N.”
“What’d you do Zepp?” you sighed. He lifted up his shorts and you saw the gash on his leg. “Did you jump off that stupid homemade ramp at Bobby’s?”
“Dad’s gonna kill me,” he said.
“Go to my house and let yourself in. I’ll be there in a minute,” you said. He looked at Matt and he held up his hands.
“I saw nothing,” he said.
“Good,” said Zepp, hopping back on his bike.
“Careful,” you groaned as he took off. You rubbed your temples and Matt smiled. “That’s my thirteen year old little brother. He’s in his get into an appropriate amount of trouble phase.”
“I remember those days. He looks like his dad,” he said. “Go clean him up. I can cover with your dad while you’re gone.”
“Do you have any siblings?” you asked. He shook his head and looked down. “Why’d you look me up? Really.”
“My parents were in an accident a few weeks ago, right after my birthday. They were in their eighties but it was a shock. I just...I feel kinda lost to be honest. My wife told me the worst that could happen is you don’t want me in your life,” he said.
“You have to understand Matt, I’ve been through a lot of shit. I just can’t be the instant sister that maybe you’re looking for.”
“I understand. I should never have come here in the first place. I’m sorry for bothering you,” he said. He stood and you caught his wrist, Matt pausing.
“I said it wouldn’t be instant. Took me almost a year to tell my parents I loved them. Took me almost three to start calling Jensen my dad out loud. If you want to try, I’ll try. Just don’t rush me.”
“After the blood test right,” he chuckled.
“What would a lawyer advise?” you said.
“Blood test for sure. Go take care of your brother. I’ll be here when you get back.”
“You better.”
One Week Later
“Uh hi,” said Matt the next Saturday, a little stiff as he and a woman walked into your backyard. “Maggie this is Y/N.”
“She looks like you,” she said with a smile, TJ walking over with a beer in his hand.
“TJ this is Matt and Maggie,” you said. “TJ is my husband. The two smallest are our kids, Allie and Colin. The rest are my siblings and my parents are around here somewhere.”
“Here’s somewhere,” said your dad, walking in through the gate with a cooler, your mom right behind him. He straightened up and smiled. “Jensen. Danneel. You are…”
“This is Maggie,” said Matt. “I take it by the invite your lawyer was able to verify what I said.”
“The blood test said you two are half siblings,” said your dad. “Between us adults though, if you two have anything other than good intentions, I’ll ruin your lives and I’ll have help in doing so. Okay, we good? Who wants a beer?”
“Uh,” said Matt as your mom dragged your dad over to the patio. “That was kinda intense.”
“He did the same thing to me when I started dating Y/N,” said TJ. “Just don’t be a dick and these guys are pretty great.”
“Right,” said Maggie, side eyeing Matt. “Maybe this wasn’t a good idea.”
“We knew this would be a little awkward at first. Let’s just...try to enjoy the afternoon.”
“I don’t trust him,” said your dad when you were coming out of the bathroom a short while later. You rolled your eyes and he caught your hand, stopping you in the kitchen. “I don’t care if he’s your half-brother. I don’t trust him. It still smells fishy to me.”
“I was ready to shove him away and I only stopped because of you. Now you changed your mind?”
“Remind me when do you get the money from the trust in your parent’s names?” he asked.
“When I’m thirty,” you said quietly.
“Which is a year and a half away. That’s a lot of money to try and guilt you into sharing.”
“He’s a lawyer.”
“Lawyer’s like money.”
“Dad. I just...I’m a grown woman. Stop being so protective of me. He’s my brother. I don’t love him. I don’t even know if I like him. Let me get to know him before you start trying to defend me.”
“Be careful.”
“Not everyone in the world is a douchebag. Just...if you’re gonna harass people just go home.”
“His story might be true but I don’t trust him.”
“Yeah but you don’t get to decide who I do and don’t trust. Back off on this dad. I’m serious.”
“Y/N,” said Zeppelin a few weeks later when you were driving him home from soccer practice. You hummed, turning down the radio a bit. “Are you and dad fighting?”
“What? No. I’ve been hanging out with Matt and Maggie a lot lately is all. It’s easier to get just a few people together,” you said, turning down the street.
“Can we go to your house?” he asked. You turned slowly up around the corner instead of driving straight, pulling into the garage a moment later.
“Zepp.”
“Can I have dinner here?” he asked.
“Sure,” you said. “But take a shower, stinky. You got some clothes in the guest room from last time you slept over.”
An hour later TJ was giving Allie and Colin a bath while Zepp worked on the last of his homework at the counter. When he finished you got out a pint of ice cream and a pair of spoons, sliding into the spot beside him.
“Zeppy. What’s going on. Not like you to not want to be home.”
“Dad’s scared. Mom too. They think Matt’s gonna hurt you.”
“Hurt me? No, he’s not going to do that,” you said, taking a bite.
“I don’t like him,” he said. You sucked off the rest of your spoon, Zeppelin taking his own spoonful.
“You just don’t know him. We didn’t know each other once,” you said. “Now I’m your big sister that you love.”
“I always loved you. I think you should stay away from him.”
“Did dad put you up to this?” you asked. “I swear to-”
“You’re my sister,” he said a little loud, both of you stilling. “In five more years I’m gonna be the size of dad and TJ. Just cause I’m your little brother doesn’t mean I don’t get to protect you too.”
“I said something very similar to dad when we had our accident last year,” you said.
“What’d he say?”
“We fought. We were both really scared. I hope you never have to go through something so scary in your life.”
“I thought you were gonna die. Mom gave me money and left me at the airport to wait for Uncle Jared to get me. She was crying but tried not to,” he said. “I kinda freaked out when Uncle Jared finally got there.”
“I’ve freaked out on Uncle Jared before plenty. He’ll always take care of you,” you said, reaching over to ruffle his hair.
“Y/N. Please be careful. I have a bad feeling. Please.” You played with his hair for a moment, pushing some back, a tiny little mark hidden by his hair.
“You hit your head when I was watching you as a toddler,” you said. “God the scream you let out. I still remember it.”
“You’re avoiding the subject.”
“Why do you think Matt will hurt me? Because mom and dad do?”
“I don’t know. It’s a feeling,” he said. You rolled your eyes and he stood up. “Whatever. You don’t care. I’m going home.”
“I can give you a ride,” you said but he was already putting on his cleats. “Zepp.”
“Whatever. Have fun with your new brother.” He stormed out with his backpack and you sighed, digging into the ice cream again.
“Hello pops,” you said, answering your phone, halfway through the pint about half an hour later.
“Is your brother staying the night? It’s getting late for a school night,” said your dad.
“Uh what?” you laughed.
“Is Zepp sleeping over?” he asked. “If not can you send him home?”
“Oh god,” you said, immediately going out the front door and looking around. “He’s not home?”
“No...Y/N,” he said, the door opening in the background. You started to jog down the street barefoot, your dad talking but you couldn’t hear what he was saying. Around the corner you saw him jogging up in his sweats, staring at you under the streetlight. “Y/N, where’s your brother?”
“He...he was walking home half an hour ago,” you breathed out, spinning around in circles.
“Zeppelin!” shouted your dad, so loud the whole block could clearly hear him. “Zepp!”
“He got mad at me cause I wouldn’t listen to him about Matt. He said he was going home though. He said-” Your dad shouted again, TJ running down the street, a few neighbors doors starting to open.
“Y/N what’s wrong?” he asked.
“Zepp’s missing. It’s a three minute walk and he didn’t make it home.”
“In the car!” shouted your dad, Zeppelin skulking past into the truck fifteen minutes later. “I swear to god…”
“He was upset and came over to vent. I thought you knew,” said Jared.
“He’s old enough to know better!” shouted your dad.
“I ran away,” you said quietly, leaning against your car. “You want to scream at somebody then I deserve it, not him.”
“He is not old enough to be walking that far alone in the dark,” he said.
“And again, I’m the one that got him upset. I’m the reason he was over in the first place. Take it out on me, not him. He got the message loud and clear.”
“He’s not five. He-”
“I ran away and you didn’t punish me for it. A little hypocritical of you to do it to him when he didn’t even do that.”
“Guys,” said Jared. “If you two are gonna argue I’m gonna finish my conversation with Zepp.”
He went past and slipped into the passenger seat of the car, your dad crossing his arms in their driveway.
“You know I have a point,” you said.
“I’m not...I’m scared and upset. I thought someone took him. I just…”
“I know.” He ran his hands through his hair, putting his back to the truck. “I’m going to stop talking to Matt.”
“Don’t do that because your brother-”
“Zepp’s not my blood. But I love him. I’ve loved him since I met him. He gave me his doggie that first day. That kid has always loved me and I’ve always loved him and I just about had a heart attack tonight. He came over to tell me he doesn’t like Matt, he doesn’t trust him. Told me someday he’ll be bigger than me and he can protect me too. He’s only thirteen but he’s right. He’s my fucking brother. Not Matt. Matt is...superficial and manipulative. It’s there and I see it and I ignore it cause it’s like, oh my brother. But I got a brother. I don’t need another one. If he doesn’t trust him, if my family doesn’t, then I’m going to listen to my family.”
“You know that’s just about the sweetest thing you ever could have said about your brother. I wasn’t the only one scared tonight.”
“I was kinda a dick at the party a few weeks ago.”
“I was kinda a protective dick.”
“Yeah but I like that most of the time.” He smiled, Jared climbing out of the truck. “How’s he doing?”
“He’s pretty sure you’re gonna tear his head off,” he said.
“I think it’s time your brother got one of his own little talks,” said your dad, heading to the truck.
“Go easy on him,” you said.
“Think the ole ice cream down on the dock trick will work?” he asked.
“Never a bad call,” said Jared. He waved and hopped in the truck, the two of them heading out as you leaned against Jared’s side. “He’s alright. Just trying to look out for big sis.”
“Cody home?” you asked.
“I already asked him to run a background check on Matt. I think it’s in his car,” he said just as Cody was jogging out the front door. “Codes where’s that file I asked you to run?”
“I left it in the kitchen. I gotta run back to work,” he said as he stopped in front of you. “That fucker comes near you, call me.”
“Matt?” you asked. Cody nodded, glancing at Jared.
“Dad can you please not tell Uncle Jensen until tomorrow? I have to tell my boss what I found out and it’ll go better if he doesn’t get a call from a lawyer first.”
“Alright. What’s the big secret?” he asked.
“Your blood test that matched for a half sibling with Matt? His little wife works at the lab. She used other people’s samples and changed the names. I called and got the manager there to re run the original sample you provided. Matt is not related to you at all.”
“But our eyes-”
“Colored contacts. Bought on a credit card a month ago. He’s a con artist from the bit of digging I was able to do. On the surface level, his story adds up but it’s not his story. I verified with your mom’s college a picture of her when she was supposedly eight months pregnant and she was very clearly not pregnant in it.”
“So he’s another asshole after money with some bullshit story,” you said.
“Talk to your boss, Codes. TJ and Jay and Dee need to hear this first thing in the morning though,” said Jared.
“They’ll probably skip town as soon as they know we’re onto them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they already have if the manager gave Maggie wind of running a test over again,” said Cody.
“Go to work. We’ll figure it out in the morning,” said Jared. “Be safe.”
He hummed and hopped behind the wheel of his cruiser, heading back onto his shift.
“You want a drink?” asked Jared.
“I should go home,” you sighed. He rubbed your arm and you looked up at him. “Maybe one vanilla bourbon milkshake?”
“That’s my girl,” he said. You followed him inside, smirking when you saw JJ and Tom watching a movie on the couch. “You two want milkshakes? Or are you gonna share?”
“Share,” said JJ without moving from resting her head on his shoulder. You ducked into the pantry to grab the liquor, Jared bringing the tub of ice cream in.
“Do you…” you trailed off, Jared chuckling. “You know?”
“Oh we know. Jay and Dee have for a while but we get it. They had diapers changed together and now...now they’re figuring out something new for them so as far as parents are concerned, we’re oblivious until we’re told.”
“You guys are kinda sweet.”
“Oh we did the same thing with you,” he said. “We tried to not tease too much.”
“I never in a million years thought I’d find a boyfriend let alone TJ.”
“I never in a million years thought I’d adopt a kid. Funny how it works out.”
“For every TJ there’s ten times as many Matt’s in the world,” you said.
“For every Matt there’s someone trying to be a TJ. Most people are better than you think. You included.”
“I’m not like TJ,” you said quietly. “Even he told me I should be careful about Matt and I just…”
“Tried to see the good in someone. For a person that went through what you did as a kid, that’s kind of remarkable you know. You were not like that when we first met.”
“Why do bad people like me,” you asked, throwing some ice cream into the blender.
“I don’t know kiddo. They haven’t stopped you yet,” he said.
“No one tells you that even when you’re a parent you’ll still feel like a teenager that has no idea what you’re doing.”
“I’m almost fifty and still don’t know what I’m doing. You figure it out be sure to let the rest of us know,” he said.
“Thanks for talking to Zepp.”
“I know how to calm down an Ackles no matter what size they come in.”
“Jared. I’ve been a Hanover for five years.”
“Whatever you say little Ackles,” he said, ruffling your hair.
“Dad,” groaned Zeppelin as he tossed his backpack in your backseat a few days later. Your dad just hummed, Zeppelin throwing his head back. “I can walk to Y/N’s house.”
“Entertain me,” he said. Zeppelin groaned again and got in the passenger seat while you laughed. “Y/N.”
“Yes father?” you asked. He walked over and slipped you a hundred dollar bill, your eyebrows raising.
“Go have fun tonight. Take him out to eat, go mini golfing, do some fun shit. He’s been pretty down on himself past few days.”
“I wonder who he gets that from,” you said, pushing the money back in his hand. “And he’s my little brother and I don’t get to hang out with him that much, just us. So this is on me. Alright? Take mom on a nice date or something.”
“Alright. He’s got soccer at eleven.”
“Goodnight dad,” you said, heading back to the car.
“You okay? After this week?”
“Like I said, I only need one brother. I’ll see you guys at the game.”
“Drive safe.”
“I will. Promise.”

A friendly night, right... (Part 2/? )
A kidge fanfic!
TW for this chapter:
-Language
Canon universe, episode 1 season 8.
A/N: I tried to correct my mistakes but, if you see some, tell me!! ( English is not my first language, btw🥲)
Just us?
Pidge POV:
Ok.
What the heck just hapenned?!
I was standing there, in the middle of this halway that I knew very well. But I never expected something like that to happen here, especially today…
No, tonight, I was supposed to go back home, finish my stuffs for the launching of the Atlas and then cuddle with my dog, Baebae, in my bed while watching a romantic movie. All that while crying, eating pretzel thins, crying again because im not the girl in the movie and then fall asleep while Baebae would chew on my socks. I honestly liked that plan very much, but, Keith’s proposition changed it all…
Now, Im supposed to go out and spend my evening with him. Just him and I…
Just us?!
I blushed at this thought. Why would he even want to spend that last moment on earth with me?! Every single girl that likes mans in the premisses had a crush on him! He had choice! But yet, he choosed me, the nerdy, short and weird girl…
He said a friendly night, right? Well, It was pretty weirdly asked. He was pretty weird.
I feel like he has something in mind…
HO, come on, stop imagining things, he might really want to just hang out as friends…
I clunched my fists:
All I knew, is that the situation was terrible.
Keith is handsome and excuse me, but he is SO DAMN HOT. I have to admit, I’ve been staring durring our training… Don’t judge me.
I also had a dream… Well, two dreams… OK FINE, a few dreams about him.
You might thinks it’s a great thing, but no.
Here, Im just killing myself because the day he’ll get married and I’ll only be some random girl at the wedding, I’ll feel bad for two things: Fantasizing about him but also that my fantasies never came true… OK, also because I wont be the one kissing him at the atlar…
WELL, now that he kind of… Asked me out, I have faith! Blaim me if you want to!
I sighed and tried to look natural before heading back in the room where the girls were. But, I can’t act natural and im pretty sure that I was walking like a duck while heading back to my sit. I tried to ignore the curious expression that Romelle was giving me, or Nadia’s grin… Allura was just smilling at me and as for Ina… Well, she was just being Ina.
«SOOOOOO, what did Keith told you?»
Nadia asked has she got closer to me, still arboring a stupide grin and insisting on Keith’s name.
«Nothing interesting, really, Paladin’s stuffs.» I tried to sound conveincing. I litterally don’t want them to annoy me with tones of questions.
«Ho, may I know? Im also a paladin as I recal...» Allura played into Nadia’s game... That’s treason.
«Just… forget it.» I sighed, hopping that these womans would leave me alone… I was a fool to think that.
«HO, come on Pidge! Tell us! This could be a nice girl talk! And what is said durring girl talks STAYS a secret!» Romelle leaned on my shoulder letting her long and blond hair fall on me.
«Ho, please...» I frowned as I pushed her asside.
The girls then placed themselves in front of me to plead. Even Ina nodded to agree with them. Man, I get what Matt and my parents had to live every days with me… I guess Im annoying.
I sighed, «OK, FINE! He asked me to hang out tonight. But please, don’t start to make up something in your mind, he asked me has friends… Well, he was pretty weird, He was like panicked and all… I just don’t get it. Lance even had to ask for him...»
The girls froze before to give me a huge smile.
«This is LITERALLY a date. he might have panicked while asking you and that’s why Lance was there.» Nadia got a little too ecxited and grabbed my shoulders to shake me as if she was trying to wake me up.
«You guys are over reacting, that’s exacly why I didn’t want to tell you...» I growled.
Nadia then stopped shaking me. «Ok, then, If it is just friendly, then why you? He could have asked to anyone else than you! Besides, he is supposed to be the ‘‘Loon wolf,, , isn't he?»
«Yeah Pidge, we both know that he LOVES being alone… The fact that he wants to spend his alone time alone WITH YOU means something!» Allura grabbed my arm.
«OK, OK, alright, let’s admit it IS a date… What am I doing?» I blushed.
The girls stayed silent for a moment before Ina spoke:
«What do you want to do? I mean, when he asked, what was your answer?»
«I said yes.»
«And now that you know that it probably could be a date, what do you think? Do you still feel interested on going?» She continued.
«I… I think yes, but that’s a bit unexpected...»
«It might feel unexpected but it doesn’t mean it bad. If you like him, then I guess that you’re best option is to go. So I suggest you to take that opportunity.» She smiled at me.
«YEAH! And we‘ll help you get to ready!» Romelle joined.
They all nodded.
I never felt so cared about by a group of girls… In general, when I was younger, girls would always judge me, call me weird and reject me so yeah. I basically never really had female friends…
I smiled, « Yeah, ok… We’re doing this!»
At my answere, I could see the happiness growing in their eyes… Why, you might ask? Because they get to relook me and it’s a thing that they wanted to do since a while now… (I heard them talking about that the other day but they also asked me a thousand times… I always refused because first, it feels a little embarassing but also because im ALWAYS busy doing something!)
I told them what Keith and Lance told me exactly as they were preparing me and Allura... I refused many things:
FIRST, Nadia wanted to wanted to straighten my hair which is was NO! It’ll sure make my hair look longer and better but I don’t want to look like I have been preparing for a date if it isn’t one. Let’s remind ourselves that we don’t know for sure that it is a date! (Also, I like my messy hair.)
THEN! They tried to put some make up on my face… And like, not just a little! SO, I asked them to make me look as natural as possible! Like, really, They only used gloss, mascara and blush which was honnestly fine to me… (And which wasn’t to them, they wanted to turn me into a doll but NAHA, no can do!)
Finally -and it was the hardest part to figure out- We had to chose clothes… And unlike when we helped Allura to chose the clothes for her date, we only had less then 20 minutes to figure this out.
They fought about many outfits, I tried 14 of them and every times, no one was agreeding… Before we finally found one perfect outfit: a simple black dress.
So yeah, we fought about outfits for 10 minutes to chose a BLACK DRESS.
Anyways, I didn’t say nothing about this.
When they were done, they stared at me and Allura with a proud grin on their faces… Well, exept Nadia, she obviously wanted to relook me fully.
Once we were ready, Allura left for her date, leaving me with Nadia, Romelle and Ina.
I’ll pass the details of the briefing they gave me but, everything that was in my mind while they were talking to me and giving me advices was: «What if we are just over reacting? So I’ll have to play it friendly unless I have an actual sign that this IS a date...»
« SO! Are you ok with that» Nadia asked. I didn’t listen to what she had been telling me for the last ten minutes, so, huh…
«Ok… With what?» I raised an eyebrow…
She took a step back and was ready to blame me for not listening but got stoped as someone steped in the room.
It was him. And HOLLY QUIZNACK. I had never seen him looking so hot. (Or maybe it was just the first time that I saw him with other clothing then the garisson uniform/ Garsison’s hospital clothing, his BOM uniform, paladin armor or his usual outfit… The hotest he wore so far was the BOM uniform…)
He had a black tank top with a checkered jacket and some QUIZNAKING grey sweatpants.
I couldn’t help but blush. Fuck…
«Hey!… So, huh… Are you ready?» He scratched the back of his neck.
I. couldn’t. TALK.
Hopefully, Nadia that was now next to me gave ma quick blow on the arm to reminding me that I had to give an answere.
«HA- Huh, Yeah! Im ready!...»
«Great! So, let’s go?...»
«Yeah! Let’s go...» I said as I turned toward the girls behind me that were giving me signs to go.
I walked towards Keith and followed him outside were he had parked his motorcile.
I pass the awkward talks we had while then but basically, We both got on the motorcicle and I had to wrap my arms around his torso. I think you guessed that it was half pleasant and half horrible ever since I had to try to calm my heart beats… Like, MY HEART WAS RACING.
After a while, we arrived at his house in the desert. I had heard about it before but it was the first time that I saw it. It looked cute and calm. Next to it, the black lion was sat and apparently waiting for us...
«What is black doing here?» I asked while taking off the helmet he had lended me.
«Follow me and see.» He held his hand for me to grab it.
I hesitated before to finally hold it and follow him to wherever he wanted me to go.
We climbed all the way up to black’s head and wow, I wasn’t ready for that!
He had placed pillows, snacks and pizzas with some nice lights all around! It looked so hella nice and cute.
«You like it?» He asked as he squized my hand.
I was amazed, «It’s so nice!… You did all that?..»
«Yeah, I really wanted to spend a nice last night on earth… Im glad you like it tho, I did it for you.»
«It's amazing, Keith.» I looked up at him.
We became silent as we smiled at each other and at this point we had compleatly forgotten that we were holding hands… Then we remembered and it became awkward, again… (No need to tell you that we stopped holding hands then)
He looked away. «Should we sit?...»
I was still blushing hardly «Let’s do that...»

Frozen Hearts
Pairing: Loki x Reader
Warnings: mentions of past trauma, swearing, self esteem issues, mentions of past abuse (somewhat graphic) self deprecating thoughts, insecurities, anxiety, mentions of blood and surgery.
Summary: you try to process the last couple days, as your past creeps up on you
Part 3-
====================================
Tumblr media
You spent the next few days in your room, avoiding everyone. Matt had messaged you apologizing but you hadn't answered him. The look of pity on Loki's face replaying in your mind from the other night. You didn't need anyone feeling sorry for you. You rolled over looking at the clock seeing it was 3am, knowing everyone would be asleep or out you made your way to the kitchen, maybe some tea would help. You were headed back to your room, not paying attention when you ran into someone, the hot tea spilling all down your front. You gasped as it burt your skin while you tried to pull your shirt away. You looked up seeing Loki staring at you "dammit Loki, can't you watch where your going!" You yelled fanning your skin.
"I didn't see you, I didn't know anyone would be awake." He said. You huffed, fanning yourself with your shirt, you looked up to see Loki looking down. You followed his gaze to see your shirt had lifted revealing your scars. You panicked, pulling your shirt down and shoving past him. "Y/n." You heard him call behind you "screw off laufeyson." You called back slamming your door shut. You pulled your shirt off seeing your skin red and blotchy. "Shit" you said to yourself, grabbing a shirt heading to the bathroom. You jumped in the shower, closing your eyes as the memories flooded in.
You got off the bus in New York. You were overwhelmed with how big everything was. You looked down at the address, confident you would find answers. A few busses later you were standing in front of an apartment building, it was huge and fancy, you hadn't seen anything like it. You walked in looking around at the high ceilings and large windows, you felt very out of place. "Can I help you miss?" Someone asked. You saw a man behind a desk so you smiled and walked over "Yes, I'm looking for Mr. and Mrs. Y/l/n." You said looking at him. "And who may I say you are?" He asked. "Oh, I'm y/n, their daughter." You smiled. He got on the phone, looking at you a few times before hanging up. "Miss, they said they don't have a daughter." He said as your face dropped. "What do you mean? I am there daughter." You said looking at the man. "Im sorry miss, but they said they don't. And I'm gonna need to ask you to leave." He said waving to the door. "Just, let me talk to them, please, I have no where else to go." You pleaded. "Miss, leave or I'll have to call the police."
You sighed and nodded before leaving. You waited outside hoping maybe they would leave and you could talk to them. You heard the doorman greet them as they came out so you ran up to them "I know you don't know me, but I'm y/n, your daughter, I came here to find you." You said looking at them. Your mother was wearing a long fancy dress with a fur wrapped around her shoulders and your father was In a fancy suit, they looked at you and scoffed "we don't have a daughter." The woman said looking down at you. "Yes, you do, the orphanage told me your names, I was able to find your address and here I am." You said with your arms out. They looked at eachother before the man spoke "we left you there for a reason, we don't want you, we never did, so why don't you go back." He said straightening his tie. "But, I came all this way." You said as your face fell. "I'm sure there's a shelter for people like you here somewhere." The woman said looking at you. You looked down as they walked off. You were completely alone in a large city with no money.
You pressed your forehead against the shower wall, feeling the tears building behind your eyelids. Remembering foster home after foster home you were shipped to
No wonder your parents left you, look at you...
No one will ever want you....
You'll never amount to anything, your useless....
Your only here because I'm paid to keep you....
The last foster family was the final straw. You had been place with them when you were 17, knowing one more year you would be free, you went with it and tried to stay out of the way. They had you sleeping in the basement, away from everyone else. Only allowed to come up for meals and go to school. Luckily the basement had a shower and toilet. You sat on your mattress on the floor, holding the paper with their address. Just one year, you could deal with that. Until the day that you foster mom came home and caught you upstairs. You snuck up every now and then when no one was home but she came home early. "What are you doing up here!? Your place is the basement!" She screamed at you. You tried to make it past her but she grabbed your hair, holding you in place. She dragged you to the basement door while you tried to release her grip on your hair. "No dinner tonight and I don't want to see you up here again!" She yelled and shoved you toward the stairs, you tripped falling all the way down.
You layed there for awhile before deciding you needed to leave. You got up and winced, pretty sure you had cracked a rib, but were determined to leave. You packed your backpack, seeing it was late you snuck upstairs, slowly opening the door. It was completely dark, so you snuck to the door, seeing your foster moms purse, you dug in it for her wallet, pocketing all the cash she had and headed to the bus station.
You had been going shelter to shelter, trying to stay off the street. You had been on your own for while and knew the streets of New York aren't to be taken lightly. You ran to make it before they closed but as you got there the man said they were full and turned you away. You wandered the streets, trying to find a somewhat safe place to get some rest. You were walking down an alley trying to make it to the park when you heard footsteps behind you. Panic began to rise in you as you walked faster. The sooner you were in a lit area the better. "Hey you." You heard someone call but you you ignored it and walked faster. You heard them catching up so you started to run, you were almost out of the alley when someone grabbed your bag and yanked you back, landing you on your back.
You looked up to see three women and a man. "Give us your money" one said looking at you. "I don't have any." You said standing up. "Then give us the bag." Another said grabbing your bag. "No, that's everything I own." You said pulling away. "Give it to us or we'll take it." The guy said walking closer "no, just leave me alone." You said walking away but one of them grabbed you, spinning you around when you felt a sharp pain. You gasped, looking down seeing the knife in your lower abdomen. You looked up the girl holding the knife as she drug it across your skin cutting you open. You dropped to your knees as she released you. They grabbed your backpack and ran, leaving you alone and bleeding. You put your hand on your abdomen, slowly getting up making it to the end of the alley.
Your vision was blurry as someone grabbed you and said something you couldn't make out when you blacked out. You opened your eyes seeing lights passing over your head, hearing someone talking "there's too much damage, we need to take it out." You heard as you blacked out again. You weren't sure how much time passes before you woke up again. You looked around at the all white room when someone came in. The doctor you assumed told you what happened, and what they had to do. You cradled your stomach as the tears fell. "You don't have any insurance so we can keep you here a couple days, then we have to release you." He said getting up.
You got out of the shower, getting into your pajamas, looking again at the scars. A constant reminder of your weakness and inadequacy. You would never be normal, you would only ever be half a woman. You pulled your shirt down, climbing into bed. The look of pity Loki gave you replayed in your mind, you didn't want his sympathy or anyone else's.

Darlin’
Chapter 3
Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Okay, Mr. Bodecker, are you ready to go?”
“Yeah, I guess so.” He looked at Y/n as he said that with a look of worry in his eyes. She walked to the bed and helped the doctor wheel him down the halls. Once they had reached the operation room, it was time for her to return to her unit. They stopped in front of the doors, and Y/n stood in front of Lee and grabbed his hand.
“Everything is going to be alright, Lee. The doctor will take good care of you, and I will be there when you wake up, okay?”
“Thank you, Y/n, for everything.” He squeezed her hand, and with that, he was wheeled into the operation room. He was moved onto the table and told to relax as a mask was placed over his face. He slowly faded into unconsciousness.
Y/n went around to her other patients until her shift was over. Lee was still in surgery by the time she finished work. She was exhausted but made a promise and intended to keep it. She stayed in her uniform and sat in Lee’s room to wait. She didn’t realize that she had fallen asleep until she heard the commotion of the doctor and nurses bringing Lee into the room. She immediately stood up and went to the side of his bed. Her coworkers told her that the doctor would be in to talk to Lee in an hour, giving him some time to wake up. After she was left alone in the room, she gently shook his shoulder and called his name to wake him up. She got a grunt out of him as if he was a teenage boy refusing to wake up for his parents.
“Come on, Lee, you need to wake up so the doctor can talk to you.” He slowly woke up and opened his eyes. As he rubbed his eyes, he began to remember what was happening. He didn’t feel much pain because of all the medication flowing through him, but his face was soon plastered with a smile. He couldn’t have been happier to see Y/n standing in front of him. She was still in her uniform but looked more exhausted than she did before his surgery. She had no obligation to stay and wait for him. It made his heart swell to see her there. Maybe Matt was right; you never know what could happen.
“Darlin’, you have no idea how happy I am to see you.” His voice was a bit lower than usual, his throat was sore from having a breathing tube during the operation. He grabbed her hand and rubbed his thumb across the back of her fingers. Not too long after, the doctor entered the room.
“How are you feeling, Mr. Bodecker? I’m glad to see you’re awake.”
“I’m feeling good for now, Doc. How did it go?”
“You did well during the surgery. It took a little longer than expected, but it couldn’t have gone any better. Get some rest, and you can head home tomorrow.”
“Thanks, Doc, will do.” He gave Lee a pat on the shoulder and was out the door to see his next patient.
Y/n didn’t want to leave him alone, but after a twenty-four-hour shift, she needed to go home.
“Hey Lee, I hate to leave, but I have to go home. Would it be okay if I came to see you tomorrow morning before you leave?”
“Go home and get some sleep; I’ll be here. And I would love it if you came to see me.”
“Okay, I’ll be back in the morning. Get some sleep yourself, Sheriff.” She squeezed his hand before she grabbed her purse to leave. “Goodnight Lee.”
“Goodnight, Darlin’.”
Lee was quick to fall back asleep. Y/n, on the other hand, tossed and turned in bed. She couldn’t stop worrying about Lee. Hoping that his nurse gave him enough meds so he could sleep well tonight and that his leg was positioned comfortably enough for him. After an hour of worrying, she drifted off to sleep and woke up at eight o’clock in the morning. She slept well thanks to her exhaustion from the day before. She took her time to get out of bed and make breakfast. She took longer in the shower just because she could. By the time she was dressed for the day and ready, it was almost ten o’clock, and she was ready to visit Lee. She had thought a lot about what he had said yesterday. She knew he would probably be stubborn and refuse anyone’s help and try to do it all himself. In his defense, he is a grown man, but he would need the support. She returned to the hospital in a flowy sundress instead of her usual uniform. She wasn’t sure why but wanted to look extra nice today. She felt she never got to dress up because she was always working. Walking into the building wearing something other than white felt foreign to Y/n, but that was not her main train of thought. She was excited to go see Lee. When she knocked on the door and entered, Lee greeted her with a large grin.
“Good morning, Darlin’.” He opened his arms with the intent to hug her. She obliged and gave him a small hug. She almost felt silly doing so, as she had only known him for three days. She pulled a chair closer to his bed and took a seat. They talked about how their nights went; she didn’t mention the thoughts that kept her awake.
The doctor had come in to give Lee his discharge paperwork and gave him some instructions in case he were to fall or if he got an infection. Lee tried to pay attention but couldn’t take his eyes or mind off Y/n. The sundress she wore seemed to fit her even better than her uniform. She had also let her hair down, and Lee could see its entire length. Even though he had only known her for three days, he was still mesmerized by her and knew that he had never felt this way about Florence. Dr. Bradshaw handed over the paperwork and wished Lee luck with his recovery. Y/n sat with Lee for another hour until Matt came to pick Lee up. He handed him a bag of clothes and stepped out to give him privacy.
“Darlin’, I know you're not workin’, but can you help this old man get dressed?”
“Of course, I will help you, Lee. I don’t have to be on the clock to be able to help you.”
Y/n removed the clothes from the bag and handed Lee his shirt, which he put on swiftly. She had taken off his hospital socks and put on a black pair for him. The only things left in the bag besides a pair of shoes were his shorts and underwear. Lee felt a wave of heat was over his face when he realized he needed help putting them on.
“I can call the other nurse here to help. You shouldn’t have to do this if you aren’t being paid for it.”
“Lee, it’s alright. I have seen plenty of nude people in my line of work. It'll be quick, okay?”
Lee still felt a tad embarrassed, but there was no use in calling for the other nurse, who he figured was busy anyways. He nodded in agreement and hoped that it would be a quick process. Y/n put his underwear and shorts on and slid them up to his knees to start. Lee blushed when he realized he had to move the blanket and gown. But he bit the bullet and did it. He refrained from making eye contact with her while she pulled his clothing up. Little did Lee know that Y/n had also become very red in the face. She wasn’t lying when she said she had seen plenty of nude people; however, Lee is a very gifted man. She was in quite a shock afterward but kept it to herself. She finished by helping him get his shoes on. Matt had come back in to gather up Lee’s belongings and took them to the vehicle.
Now it was time for Lee to get up. The other nurses helped him get up once earlier to go to the restroom, and the amount of pain that came with it took Lee’s breath away. Y/n lowered the bed and grabbed Lee his new crutches. He had never used crutches before, so it would be an interesting experience. She helped him into the sitting position with his legs over the edge of the bed. He steadied the crutches and braced himself for the pain that was about to overcome him. With one small grunt, Lee stood up and used the crutches to bear his weight onto. Lee was not a small man, and it made him a little weary of putting some much faith into these crutches to hold him up. Y/n stood behind him to ensure he wouldn’t fall too hard if he fell. He made his way through the halls and said his goodbyes and thank yous to the other nurses. They gave Y/n an odd look because they knew today was supposed to be her day off, so why was she here helping one of the patients? She didn’t pay any mind to them; she was focused on Lee and how well he was using the crutches. He wasn’t moving very fast, but he was still learning how to walk with them. By the time he got himself to the front of the building, Matt had pulled the car around and had the passenger seat ready for him. Lee plopped himself into the car and could relax, at least on the way home
“Lee, before you go, I want to give you this,” Y/n hands him a small slip of paper, “it’s my phone number in case you need anything. I have off for the next few days, so don’t hesitate to call if you need something.”
“Alright, Darlin’, thank you for everything you’ve done for me.”
“Have a safe trip, Lee. Hopefully, we'll talk soon.”
“Bye, Darlin’, I will call when I get settled.”
She waved as they drove away, and he did as well until she could no longer see his hand. She was sad to see him leave but happy that he could go home. Y/n hopped into her car and went home to catch up on some housework. She needed to distract herself, so she didn’t just wait by the phone for his call.

Imagine Matt being worried for you when you get shot during the Feverhead attack
"Brianna," You say with a teary-eyed grin as you spot her climbing up the steps of the RV. Making the move to pull your best friend into a hug, you were stopped in your tracks when you heard the shattering of the rear window. You had no time to react to figure out what was happening when you felt a sharp pain in your shoulder. Letting out a groan, you hold your shoulder and lean back on the counter for support.
"[Name]!" Matt yells out, noticing your pained expression. He makes his way toward you and his eyes widen in shock when he sees the red staining your hand. Replacing your hand with his own, he puts more pressure on the wound, apologizing when you let out a hiss of pain. "She's been shot!" He looks toward his parents for help when more gunshots hit the RV.
Mrs. Copeland is the first to react. Grabbing Brianna's arm, she tugs her daughter's arm down and they drop to the ground. Brianna lets out a yelp of surprise at the unexpected action. "Everyone, get away from the windows!" Mrs. Copeland shouts and everyone is quick to follow her instructions.
"I'm going to get the first aid kit," Matt tells you. "Keep pressure on the wound. You're going to be okay.

July 14th, 2028
“Scar no,” Ethan sighed, walking over to where Scarlett was standing in front of the mini sticks goal that was against one side of the living room wall by the door, the coffee table moved out of their way. “You have to turn around and try not to let me score.”
“Stick!” Scarlett smiled, holding up her mini hockey stick before returning back to hitting the top of the net with it.
“Yeah, it’s a hockey stick,” Ethan replied, putting his hands on her shoulders to turn her around. “And you use the stick to try and stop me from shooting the ball into your goal, okay?”
“Okay,” Scarlett nodded, moving her stick away from the net and letting Ethan turn around.
“Okay,” Ethan echoed, holding his hands out towards her. “Now stay, don’t move. I’m going to get the puck and then we’ll play, okay?”
“Ethie score?”
“Well, you want to try to not let me score,” Ethan replied, using his stick to move the ball closer to him as he stood midway between their two goals. “But you’re still new to hockey, so I’m probably going to score anyway. Ready?”
“Ready!” Scarlett smiled, waiting for Ethan to move the ball before she ran out towards him. “My ball!”
Ethan waited until she was near the ball to move it, only to wait again for Scarlett to catch up and try to hit the ball with her own stick, giggles emerging from the 18-month-old as she unknowingly basically played keep away with her big brother. A sight that was very endearing to Caroline as she walked down the hallway carrying the freshly dried batch of laundry in the laundry basket.
“I score!” Scarlett said, bending down to pick up the ball.
“No, Scar, you have to use your stick.” Ethan said, grabbing her stick and moving it towards the ball before pointing towards the net at the other end of the living room. “Now hit it towards my net down there, okay?”
Scarlett went to raise her stick above her head, Ethan quickly correcting her to show her the proper way to shoot. “No, no, you shoot like this. Watch me,” he let go of her stick and stood back bending down to show how to bring his stick back. “And then you come forward and– wait no.”
Unamused with his way of trying to teach, the moment Ethan had stood up to demonstrate, Scarlett bent back down and picked up the ball, dropping her own stick before running down to Ethan’s goal. She stopped right in front of it before throwing the ball down and it bounced its way into the net, hitting the back of it.
“Score!” She yelled, throwing her arms into the air as she bounced up and down with a smile on her face. “Daddy, I score!”
“You did?” Matt gasped, coming down from the hallway where the bedrooms were and walking by the lounge chair and over to Scarlett, bending down and picking her up, tossing her into the air and catching her and causing her to giggle before resting her on his left hip. “Are you winning?”
“Yes,” she smiled, resting her head against Matt’s shoulder.
“No she’s not, because we’re not keeping score.” Ethan huffed, walking over and bending down, grabbing the ball from the back of the net before standing up. “Besides, she cheated because she picked up the ball and threw it in. And if we were really keeping score, then I’m winning because I’ve scored like a hundred times already.”
“She’s also not even two, Ethan, relax,” Caroline laughed, walking out from the hallway fully. “BeeBee used to be you when you were her age, and he never complained.”
Ethan sighed, rolling his eyes. “Yeah, but she’s supposed to get it by now, Momma. You said that when she got older, she’d understand better.”
“That was eight months ago, Ethan. When I said older, I meant when she’s around three or four.” Caroline replied, putting the laundry basket down behind the couch. “Just give it a little more time and keep playing with her, I’m sure she’ll grasp it eventually.”
“Until then,” Matt said, giving Scarlett a kiss before putting her back down onto the ground, squatting down her to level. “Why don’t you show Mommy and Daddy your mini sticks skills that Ethie’s taught you?”
“Okay, Daddy,” Scarlett nodded, walking back over to where she’d dropped her stick and picking it up. “Play, Ethie.”
Matt followed Caroline into the kitchen, grabbing his empty water bottle off the counter and unscrewing the lid, refilling it from the fridge. “Was that the last load you took out of the dryer?”
“You wish,” Caroline sighed, grabbing the container of strawberries from the fridge. “There’s one load of Scar’s stuff in the washer and then our last load in the dryer.”
“Then whose clothes are in the hamper?” He asked, putting the lid back onto his water bottle.
“Ethan’s. Decided he wanted to have options for tonight,” She replied, taking a bite of a strawberry. “And I was going to have him fold them, but they’re having fun so I folded it all for him back in the laundry room. He just needs to put it away.”
“Options?” Matt snorted, shaking his head. “Kids 12. What kind of options does he have besides the pairs of jeans that all look alike, hockey jerseys and those fancy shirts he wears on special occasions?”
“Leave him alone, he’s just nervous,” Caroline laughed, holding the container of strawberries out for him to grab one. “Maybe he wants to make a good first impression.”
“Not like they haven’t known each other for eight years,” he replied, putting the water bottle down and reaching for a strawberry. “Besides, it’s his first–”
“Ow!” Ethan yelled, the sound of a hockey stick hitting the floor. “No, Scarlett, we don't do that!”
The first sound of Ethan’s distress had both Caroline and Matt practically running out of the kitchen, and they had just rounded the corner when Scarlett began to cry. Ethan was sitting on the couch, resting his head in his hands as Scarlett stood right by her end of the goal, crying and still clutching her mini stick in her right hand, while her left hand was balled up into a fist and rubbing at her eye.
“What happened?” Matt asked, looking at Ethan as he walked into the living room. “Ethan, look at me.”
“No,” he replied, shaking his head as he kept it down towards his lap.
“D-Dad-Daddy,” Scarlett sobbed, struggling to speak as her face was wet with tears.
Matt looked at Caroline and then back at Ethan, Caroline nodding and waving him off to go to Scarlett while she walked into the living room and sat down on the couch next to Ethan, rubbing at his back. “Ethan?”
“No, I’m not looking at you,” he replied, pressing his head further into his hands as he shook it, his elbows digging into his thighs.
“Okay, that’s fine for right now,” Caroline spoke softly, trying to lean forward and see if she could get a better look. “But what happened?”
“She hit me!” Ethan yelled, lifting his head up and motioning his arm towards Scarlett, who was now resting on Matt’s hip.
“Hey, relax the tone,” Matt warned, as he rubbed Scarlett’s back.
“E-Ethie mean!” Scarlett sniffled, rubbing at her face as she looked at Matt. “H-he yell a-at me.”
Caroline reached out and grabbed Ethan’s chin, turning his head slightly towards her where she could see the forming of a bump just beneath his left eye where his skin was starting to redden just along his cheekbone. “Let me go get you an ice pack–“
“We’ll go get it,” Matt said, as Scarlett was sniffling against his shoulder, hugging onto him. “Give these two some space, I think it might be time for a nap anyway.”
“Thank you,” Caroline replied as Matt walked over, stopping in front of Ethan and putting his hand on top of his head, getting him to tilt it up before nodding.
“Yeah, I’ll grab some peas instead. Might do better for that,” he said, readjusting Scarlett on his hip before ruffling Ethan’s hair and walking out of the living room and into the kitchen.
Ethan was still upset even when Matt took Scarlett out of the room, but he was no longer hiding his face in his hands. “I didn’t yell at her,” he mumbled, leaning back into the couch. “Not really…I just yelled because she hit me in the face and it hurt.”
“She’s little, Ethan. You may not have yelled at her, but she thinks that you did,” Caroline replied, patting his knee. “Why don’t you tell me what happened?”
“We were playing with the ball and after I scored I brought it back and told her I’d set it up for her to shoot.” He motioned towards where the ball was still lying in the middle of the floor, along with both mini sticks. “And I set her up first and then when I went to move the ball she just swung it up and hit me in the eye. Even after I told her that’s not how you swing the stick.”
“Ethan, she’s–“
“I know she’s little,” he huffed, crossing his arms. “But I already told her five times, Momma. Why doesn’t she listen?”
“Because she’s half of your father and half of me. He doesn’t listen and I’m stubborn,” Caroline replied, smiling slightly as she reached up for his hair and brushed it back to bring the barely visible scar that was mostly hidden by his shaggy hair, into view. “Besides, do I need to remind you just how you got that scar right there?”
Still pouting, he looked at her and shrugged. “Maybe.”
“Well, you were three,” she said, turning towards him and leaning against the couch cushion. “And you loved climbing on stuff, no matter how many times we told you not to, you never listened because you were three. You were with Papa Walt and Mimi one day and Papa Walt got up to answer the door and you decided to climb up onto his chair and then onto the table beside it. You went to stand up on it, fell and the table came down right after you and smack,” she brushed her thumb along the white scar. “Corner table right to the head. Kids don’t listen, Ethan, and she’s getting ready to get into that terrible twos era, so she’s about to get really testy. But that’s a part of growing up and raising kids. We’ve just got to keep teaching her right from wrong and making sure she knows and one day she’ll get it, I promise.”
“How do you know?”
“Because you did,” Caroline smiled, brushing his hair back down and sitting up. “Now tell me what’s really bothering you, because you’ve taken feet to the stomach and lower body from her trying to climb up on you, so I know it’s not her hitting you in the eye. Though I think I might have an idea of what it is.”
“I don’t want to have a black eye for my date with Mel,” Ethan sighed heavily, frowning soon after as his shoulders sank. “I mean, I’m still kind of mad at Scar but she’s little so she doesn’t know…but really I just don’t want to look ugly for my date.”
Caroline took a deep breath and exhaled, getting off of the couch and squatting down in front of it. “Sit up, let me get a better look.”
Still frowning, Ethan sat up and sigh, shoulders still dropped. “I already know I’m going to have one.”
“Maybe, maybe not,” she replied, grabbing his chin and turning his head sideways so she had a much better look. The skin was still getting pretty red, but it didn’t look like a bigger bump was going to form. “I can’t say for certain that it won’t bruise a little, but I can guarantee that you won’t be ugly.”
His eyebrows furrowed and upper lip curled. “How can you do that?”
“Because regardless of just how much of your father you are, the one thing I was able to bless you with is my good looks.” She smiled, reaching up and fixing his hair that Matt had ruffled. “Oh, and my manners. You definitely got those from me.”
Ethan smiled, rolling his eyes before taking a deep breath and exhaling. “Are you sure she won’t think it’s ugly? What if Dad showed up with a black eye?”
“It wouldn’t be the first time,” Caroline laughed, bringing her hand down and resting her hands on the couch on either side of him. “He actually has a black eye in our junior prom photo. Mimi tried to cover it up as best as she could, but if you look really closely you can still see it.”
“How many times do I have to apologize for that?” Matt asked, leaning out from around the corner of the kitchen. “Trent threw a water bottle at my head during the water break to give me the bottle. His aim was just shi…uh, bad. Really bad.”
“Plus, I seem to remember you having a black eye on the opposite side of your face on Valentine’s Day back in second grade,” Caroline replied, pushing herself to stand up and sending Matt a look who just rolled his eyes. “And that was a pretty big day for you.”
“Yeah, you got kissed,” Matt teased, smiling as he walked towards them and leaned against the back of the couch. “So maybe Melody will see this black eye and feel bad enough to give you another one.”
“I don’t want a pity kiss,” Ethan whined, looking at Matt. “But what if I go to kiss her and she moves or something?”
“We’ll talk more about it later,” Matt replied, looking down by his side before looking back at Ethan. “But now, you just need to chill out about it. Literally.”
Scarlett’s feet were pattering against the floor as she rounded the corner of the couch holding onto a bag of frozen peas wrapped up in a dish towel with both hands, coming to a stop by Ethan’s right knee. “Here Ethie,” she pouted, holding it out to him. “I sowwy for hitting you. It was an assident.”
“Accident,” Matt quickly corrected her, rubbing his right hand down his face. “It was an accident, not an assident. We don’t say that word.”
“Sowwy daddy,” Scarlett replied, if possible her pout getting more dramatic as she raised her arms up higher for Ethan to grab the makeshift ice pack. “Ice peas, daddy say it help.”
“It’s okay, Scar. I know it was an accident.” Ethan took the frozen bag of peas and re-wrapped it up before pressing it against the left side of his face and looking at Scarlett, sighing. “And I’m sorry for yelling, I promise I wasn’t yelling at you.”
“Hug kiss?” She asked, holding out her arms and puckering up her lips, filling her cheeks up with air.
“Come here,” Ethan put the bag of peas back down onto the ground and opened his arms.
Scarlett smiled as she walked in between his legs and Ethan picked her up, resting her on his lap where she immediately wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug, then leaned back and gave him a kiss where she blew a raspberry like Matt does every time he tucks her into bed. “I love you, Ethie,” Scarlett said, hugging him again and resting her head down against his chest.
“I love you too, Scar,” he replied, hugging her back.
“Daddy say it's naptime,” she said, bringing her left hand to her mouth. “You read my book and we watch ducks, please?”
Ethan looked at both Matt and Caroline to see if they’d oppose before standing up and putting Scarlett back onto the ground, holding her hand. “Okay, come on, we'll go to my room.”
“Groot!” Scarlett gasped, trying to let go of his hand and run off, only to not move at all. “Come on Ethie, nap with Groot!”
“Don’t forget to ice,” Caroline said, picking up the bag of peas and handing them to Ethan. “10 minutes on—“
“10 minutes off, I remember.” Ethan nodded, taking the bag of peas before letting Scarlett lead him out of the living room and down the hall to his room.
Caroline sat down on the couch, sinking back against the cushion and exhaled heavily, closing her eyes. “Is it nap time for us too? That was draining.”
“Mm, I was kind of hoping we could do something else,” he said, sliding right behind her and reaching down for her shoulders, massaging them. “Because I don’t know about you, but that was the cutest thing I have ever seen.”
“Which part?” Caroline asked, opening her eyes and looking up at him. “The two of them yelling or Ethan getting hit in the face and worrying about whether or not he gets a kiss on his date tonight?”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about,” Matt laughed, digging his thumbs into her shoulders. “The part where our extremely adorable, already the master of the pout, daughter not only apologized to her big brother, but then asked for a hug and a kiss. And said big brother pulled her onto his lap and did just that.”
“I suppose that was really cute,” Caroline sighed, smiling slightly. “Did you see how she called the movies ducks? That might be the thing Ethan will be most proud of. Getting his little sister obsessed with the Mighty Ducks movies.”
Matt laughed and moved his hands up her shoulders and to her face, cradling it. “We should have another one.”
“Another one what?” Caroline laughed, widening her eyes. “Because I know for a fact we’re not talking about another kid.”
“Well I guess you’re not Mrs. know it all after all, because that’s exactly what we’re talking about,” he pouted, letting go of her face as she sat up and turned towards him. “I mean, E’s a great big brother, Scar was a pretty easy baby and you saw that cute moment they had. Tell me that didn’t give you baby fever.”
“It was pretty cute,” she replied, turning around and bringing her legs up onto the couch, standing up on her knees as she faced him and wrapped her arms around his waist. “But Scar’s not even two yet.”
“Brady and I are barely two years apart,” he shrugged.
“Yeah, but Ethan drove me crazy throughout the first few months of his terrible twos phase,” she sighed, pouting at him. “How about we talk about it a little more and then once she’s two, we’ll see how everything is?”
“Works for me,” he smiled, leaning down and kissing her before pulling back. “But we can still practice right? Maybe right now?”
“Definitely not right now.”
“Tonight when the kids are asleep?” He replied, kissing her again.
“Mmmm, assuming Scarlett does well in her crib tonight,” she laughed, patting his shoulders and standing up off of the couch. “But for right now, we need to drop off the laundry in Ethan’s room, then check on the clothes in the dryer, maybe switch over the stuff in the washer and then double check with Melody’s parents she can still go and what time to be ready and–“
“You know you should probably breathe a little,” Matt joked, picking up the hamper she’d been carrying earlier. “You go check and I’ll go drop this off with E.”
Caroline nodded as they went separate ways, Matt down the hall and her to the laundry room. The washing machine had stopped, but when she opened the dryer door to check on the clothes in there, they were still a little damp. She closed the door and added more time to the cycle before turning the laundry room light off and walking back out into the hall, where she could see Matt standing in the doorway of Ethan’s room, the laundry hamper on the floor next to him..
“What are you–“
“Sh,” he whispered, looking at her before nodding his head into Ethan’s room, “Look how cute.”
Caroline nudged the hamper away and came up beside him, peeping her head around the corner of the door to see Ethan and Scarlett laying on top of the blankets of his bed. The first Mighty Ducks movie was playing on the tv that they moved from their room to Ethan’s after Matt “couldn’t resist a good sale” and bought a new one for their room, Scarlett’s copy of ‘The Monster at the End of this Book’— which for the moment was her favorite book— was to the right of Ethan and the bag of peas wrapped up in the rag beside it. They were both rolled over onto their left side, Scarlett was hugging onto the stuffed toy much bigger than her, and Ethan had his right arm draped over Scarlett, most likely to make sure she wouldn’t fall or try to leave without him noticing.
“Grab that blanket off the lounge chair?” She whispered, picking up the hamper and walking into Ethan’s room as Matt walked back out to the living room. She put it down by his dresser and walked over to the bed, carefully leaning across them both and grabbing the bag of peas and Scarlett’s book, putting the book down on Ethan’s side table as Matt walked into the room.
He walked over the bed and draped the blanket over the two of them making sure they were tucked in before standing up. “Guess he didn’t really ice the eye did he?” He laughed softly, motioning towards Ethan.
Ethan shifted in his sleep, exhaling heavily as he opened his eyes barely. “What time is it?”
“Don’t worry, go back to sleep,” Caroline said, grabbing the remote from where he’d placed it on his pillow. “We’ll wake you when it’s time for you to get up.”
“Okay,” Ethan nodded and closed his eyes again, moving closer towards Scarlett and laying his head back down on the pillow.
Caroline placed the remote down on his bedside table and then grabbed Matt’s hand. “Come on,” she said, going to walk out of the room.
“Where are we going? He asked, following behind her and out into the hallway.
“To our room,” she smiled, nodding her head down the hall towards their room. “Talk a little more about having another baby. I think Ethan and Scarlett could use a little brother or sister.”
Matt’s eyes widened and he reached back and shut Ethan’s door just barely before resting his hands on her hips and walking them down the hall to their room. He nudged the door open with his foot before bending down and picking her up bridal style, Caroline laughing as he walked them into their room and he shut the door behind him, locking it and walking over to the bed, laying her down on it and crawling over her.
“That’s definitely a conversation I would love to have,” he smiled, closing the gap between them with a kiss, just barely pulling back. “After we practice first.”

“Do you guys really need to be here right now?” Ethan huffed, crossing his arms as the car came to a stop just outside of the Hastings home.
“How else would you pick Melody up?” Caroline asked, putting the car into park and looking at him through the rearview mirror.
Ethan shrugged, unbuckling his seatbelt. “Uber.”
Matt snorted, shaking his head. “Yeah, over my dead body are you taking an uber at 12. Try 18.” He looked over his shoulder at Ethan. “Now go get your girlfriend, it’s bad manners to be late for your first date.”
“She’s not my–” Ethan huffed again, clearly stressed as he opened his car door, grabbed the bouquet of lilies and got out. “Besides, I won’t need to take an Uber when I’m 18, I’ll have a car.”
“If we even get you one,” Matt replied, looking forward and shrugging. “Don’t think I forgot about you spilling the slurpee on my newly cleaned and detailed back seats after I told you to keep the lid on. Your car will look like a pigsty.”
Ethan shut the door and stomped his way over to Matt’s window, knocking on it until Matt rolled it down. “You won’t need to get me one because I’ll be in the NHL with a contract worth millions of dollars and buy my own car!” He stuck his tongue out and turned around, walking away from the car.
“Nice try, but we share a birthday and you won’t be draft eligible till you’re 19 like I was!” Matt called out the window and laughed as they watched Ethan walk up the Hastings’s driveway. “God, he is so much like you it’s hilarious.”
“Excuse me?” Caroline laughed, motioning towards his window. “He is literally you in every aspect.”
“Yeah, but he gets stressed so easily just like you,” Matt smiled, looking at her. “Kids freaking out his parents are taking him to pick up his girlfriend and chaperoning his first date as if he’s not 12.”
“I here too daddy,” Scarlett said, lifting up her arms from her car seat as she looked at them through the mirror hanging from the middle seat headrest that helped them see her when driving.
“I know princess,” Matt replied, reaching back and tickling one of her hands.
“To be fair, he did say she’s not his girlfriend and you know how he gets when you tease him about it,” Caroline replied, keeping an eye out towards the driveway.
“Please, they may not be official, but they’re totally a thing. We were basically a thing on our first date,” he shrugged, looking back out the window. “And then I asked you to be at the end of the date, so we were official.”
Caroline rolled her eyes, laughing. “Yeah, but we also lived two doors down from each other. I think you’re forgetting the fact that we live in Calgary nine months out of the year.”
“So?” He shrugged, looking back at her.
“They’re 12, Matthew. You’re telling me that they’re going to have a long distance relationship at 12?”
“I don’t see why not,” he shrugged again, turning back towards the window before reaching out and tapping her hand. “Sh, they’re coming this way. Let’s see if he remembers what I told him to do.”
They watched as Ethan and Melody walked side by side towards the end of the Hastings’s driveway. Once they got closer to the car, Ethan walked ahead of her and grabbed the car door on the side he had been sitting on on the drive over, opening it for her. “Thanks,” she smiled, climbing into the car, Ethan closing it once she got inside and walking around the front of the car. “Hi Mrs. Caroline, Hi Mr. Matt.”
“Hi Melody, it’s nice to see you again,” Caroline said, keeping an eye out on the road as Ethan checked to make sure the street was empty before he walked alongside the car.
“Hi Mellie!” Scarlett squealed, waving her left arm out towards Melody. “How you?”
“Hi Scar,” Melody smiled, giving Scarlett a high five. “I’m good, how are you?”
“Good,” Scarlett said, as Ethan opened the door and got into the car opposite of Scarlett. “See my hipotomush?” She asked, holding out the gray stuffed animal that she’d gotten that first summer home in St. Louis after she was born when they took a trip to the zoo.
“It’s hippopotamus, Scar,” Ethan corrected, putting his seatbelt on. “Or hippo.”
“Hipotomush,” Scarlett smiled, holding him up with both hands. “My hipotomush.”
“He’s very cute, Scar,” Melody smiled, grabbing one of the hippo’s arms and shaking it. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. hippopotamus.”
“Ethie no let Groot come,” Scarlett sighed, bringing her hippopotamus down. “Groot’s Ethies best fwend.”
“He is?” Melody smied, raising her eyebrows as she looked over at Ethan. “And here I thought I was his best friend.”
“Groot’s not my best friend, Scarlett,” Ethan said, looking at the toddler. “He’s a stuffed toy like your hippo.”
“My hipotomush not a toy, he my fwend.” Scarlett said, her eyebrows furrowed and her nose and mouth scrunched up. “Mommy, Ethie being mean to my hipotomush.”
“Ethan, apologize to her hippopotamus for calling him fake.”
“I’m sorry Mr. Hippopotamus,” Ethan replied reluctantly.
“Great,” Matt smiled, looking at them through the rearview mirror. “Now go ahead and give him a hug and a kiss like you do for her during nap time.”
“Momm–”
“Matthew, stop it,” Caroline said, giving Matt a look. “Don’t make me turn this car around, I will drop you off at home.”
Matt just rolled his eyes as Ethan relaxed into his seat, Scarlett hummed along to whatever she was thinking about in her head and Melody leaned near Scarlett’s car seat, most likely entertaining the toddler.
“So Melody,” Matt said, breaking the silence as Caroline started to drive towards the roller skating rink. “How’s life in St. Louis? Are you excited for 6th grade? Got any boyfriends?”
“Dad!”
“Matthew!”
Tumblr media
Despite the initial choice of subject, the car ride was filled with learning about how school and hockey were going for Melody here in St. Louis, while Ethan also kept her up to date on how his school and hockey were going for him in up Calgary– though Matt teased, once again, that Melody probably already knew all of this since the two of them talked on FaceTime or over texting. Which, of course, Ethan sulked about in the backseat as he tried not to turn red and Caroline gave Matt another warning look.
By the time they got to the roller skating rink, it wasn’t shocking to Caroline that Ethan got out of the car as fast as he could, even urging Melody to do so. The fast departure made Scarlett panic that she was getting left behind, meaning she alternated between crying, calling out for Matt or Caroline or Ethan, and crying some more. At least until Caroline got her out of her car seat, then she realized that she wasn’t getting left behind and calmed down once Matt gave her her hippopotamus stuffed animal.
“Okay bye, we’ll see you later!” Ethan said, waving at Matt and Caroline as Melody walked up beside him.
“What’s this see you later thing?” Matt asked, looking at the two of them as they all started walking towards the entrance of the skating rink. “We’re not just dropping you off and going joyriding, we’re staying.”
Ethan’s eyes widened ignoring Matt’s reply as he turned back around and walked with Melody up to the ticket office line, standing in it as they waited their turn. When they got up to the window, Melody walked up first, ready to ask for and pay for her own ticket until Ethan stepped forward and brought his wallet out from his jeans pocket. “Actually, can you make it two tickets please?”
The man at the ticket counter asked about skate rentals, the two of them choosing yes since they didn’t want to wear their outdoor skates inside the rink and then Ethan pulled out some cash from his allowance he’d, by some miracle, managed to save and handed it over, getting his change, two tickets for their skates back, and a receipt before walking off. Matt paid for two tickets to get inside for him and Caroline, not getting any skates themselves though he heavily considered it and then followed into the skating rink behind Ethan and Melody who were waiting right by the door for them.
“You guys go ahead and get your skates before your sizes are out, we’ll find a place to sit.” Caroline said, nodding at them both to walk ahead.
Melody nodded and went to walk towards the rollerskate and rollerblade rentals, Ethan staying behind and turning around towards them. “You guys are kidding…right?” Ethan spoke quietly, looking every bit stressed and panicked as he was probably feeling. “You’re not actually staying here are you?”
“No, we’re not kidding and yeah, we’re staying here,” Matt replied, putting his wallet into his pocket. “You’re 12, you don’t get solo dates just yet. Wait till you’re 15 like mom and I had to.”
Ethan looked over at Caroline with a pleading frown. “Momma–”
“I’m sorry Ethan, but we’re not leaving two 12-year-olds at a skating rink by themselves, especially since it’s a Friday night and it’s summer, so it’s going to be crowded.” Caroline replied, shaking her head.
“Hurry up or I’ll rent myself a pair of skates and join you guys–”
“No!” Ethan gasped, holding his arms out in front of him and keeping Matt away. “Why don’t you guys just go…sit in the car or something?”
“Because it’s the middle of summer, Ethan. And we’re not killing the battery on A.C. just because you’re embarrassed your parents are in the same building as you,” Matt replied, laughing. “Besides, on our first date, we had our parents literally sitting above us with an eagle eye view and sending pictures, plus Papa Walt on the ice who would intentionally stop by us just to check on us with teammates. So yeah, I’d say you’re pretty lucky right now.”
“We’ll stay out of your guys’ way as best as we can, I promise,” Caroline said, grabbing her wallet from her purse and opening it, handing Ethan a few bills. “This is for food and games, if you need anything, we’ll try to stay over in the jungle gym area.”
“Ethan!” Melody called out, waving her arm in the air. “They need your ticket for the skates!”
“I’ll be right there!” Ethan yelled back, turning back to Caroline and Matt. “You guys promise not to embarrass me?”
“We promise,” Matt replied, picking up Scarlett and sitting her in his lap. “Now go enjoy your date, I promise the ATMs aren’t leaving. Say bye to Ethan, Scarlett.”
“Bye Ethie!” Scarlett yelled over the music, waving her hand as Ethan started walking away. “Where Ethie go, daddy?”
“Ethie’s on a date with Melody,” Matt replied, turning Scarlett around to face him as she stood up on his thighs. “So we’re going to go play over by the jungle gym and try not to embarrass him.”
“I go date too.”
Matt’s eyes widened and Caroline laughed as he shook his head. “Oh no, no date for you. Not until you’re 30.” He leaned in and blew a raspberry against her stomach, getting her to giggle. “Now come on, let’s go find Mommy a table to sit at so you and I can go play. And maybe we’ll get something to eat too.”
Caroline looked over her shoulder as they started to walk off towards the seating area near the jungle gym and saw Melody and Ethan grabbing their skates and going off to find somewhere to sit down to put them on. She pulled her phone out, snapping pictures of the two to send to Melody’s parents, only for Ethan to look up at her with wide eyes of horror. He immediately started mouthing ‘go’ and waving her away and Caroline held her hands up and mouthed sorry before turning to follow after Matt.
“I think I’m turning into our mothers,” Caroline huffed, sitting down in one of the chairs across from Matt and Scarlett.
“That’s not a bad thing, but what happened?” He laughed, putting Scarlett’s diaper bag down into the seat across from Caroline. “
“Oh I know, I love our moms,” she sighed, handing her phone over to him. “But remember any time we went on a date they–”
“Would make us stand there and take a million pictures? Yeah, vividly,” he laughed, looking at the screen. “Tell me you didn’t.”
“I did,” she pouted, taking her phone back and motioning towards it. “But it's not like I asked them to stand there and smile.”
Matt laughed, shaking his head. “Yeah, so you photo stalked instead. Scarlett, can you say creepy?”
“Reepy,” Scarlett said, hugging her hippopotamus to her.
“Matthew,” Caroline glared, locking her phone. “It’s not creepy. It’s his first date, I want pictures so I can embarrass him years down the line.”
“I know, I’m just messing with you,” he said, walking over and kissing the top of her head. “Take all the pictures your little heart desires, but send them to me so I can show the guys and we can all make fun of him too.”
“Daddy, I go slide?” Scarlett asked, pointing at the slide over in the play area.
“We’ll go slide, but you have to give mommy Mr. Hippopotamus first,” Matt said, as Scarlett reached out Mr. Hippopotamus to take before leaning her over. “And now a kiss.”
Scarlett gave Caroline a kiss, and Caroline tickled her leg, smiling. “Have fun, sweetie.”
“Bye mommy, I go slide now.”
Matt readjusted her on his hip and held her closer, turning around towards the play area. “To the slide we go!” He turned back around, pointing at Caroline. “Sneak more photos, please.”
“Got it,” Caroline laughed, giving him a thumbs up as he turned back around and looked out towards the rink to see if Melody and Ethan had made their way onto the floor yet.
Tons of kids were skating on the floor, a majority of them were around Ethan’s age or older and the younger ones that were skating around were either skating close to the edge or with their parents. Caroline did notice that she wasn’t the only parent sitting at a table in the rink by far, which made her feel a little more comfortable with the fact her and Matthew were staying around. Most of the older kids also seemed to be hanging around in the arcade area, and if this was anything like the few times Matt and Caroline would come to the roller skating rink, then the older teens were waiting for when a majority of the kids and tweens to head out for the night before taking the floor themselves– which always happened to be around 9 o’clock.
Right when she was about to turn her focus towards the play area to watch out for Matt and Scarlett, she saw Ethan step out onto the wooden floor and stay close to the edge, holding his hand out for Melody to take. She quickly opened her camera again and snapped a picture as Melody held onto Ethan’s hand and stepped out onto the rink, and then the two of them let go of the other’s hand before starting to skate side by side, Caroline snapping pictures until she saw them getting close. She quickly put her phone down onto her lap and turned sideways, resting her left elbow onto the table and then leaning her head against her fist as she pretended to look off towards the play area, waiting until she saw them skate by her again and then bringing her phone back out and getting another few pictures of them. She sent the photos off to the siblings group chat, along with the parents group chat and then finally opened her message with Melanie, Melody and Nonnie’s mom. Melanie having taken pictures of Ethan and Melody on their front porch when he’d walked up to get her and during the drive over to the rink, having sent her pictures of the two of them from preschool.
Melanie Hastings: I can’t believe they used to be that small! 🙁
Caroline sent the pictures she took, typing up a message.
Caroline Tkachuk: I may have gotten the stink eye for snapping these, but oh well. Matt and I have been ordered to stay out of sight and out of mind until the end 😂
Melanie Hastings: They’re too cute! Craig tried to give Ethan that cliche “have her home by..” speech and Ethan just said “You’ll have to talk to my Mom and Dad, Coach Hastings. They’re the ones driving.” Craig couldn’t keep a straight face and poor Mel was just traumatized.
Caroline Tkachuk: You should’ve seen E’s face when we told him we were staying. You’d think we were dressed in clown costumes there to embarrass him. I’ll try to get some pictures for you guys throughout the night, so don’t worry, we’re keeping a good eye on them.
Melanie Hastings: I know you guys will. Craig and I won’t be home from dinner until 11, but Nonnie should be home from her plans with some friends by 9. Melody knows to text Craig or I when you guys leave and also Nonnie to make sure.
Caroline Tkachuk: Okay, that sounds great. Have a good date night!
Melanie Hastings: Thank you, we will!
Getting ready to put her phone down, she saw a message pop up at the top of her screen.
Ethan 🏒: Tell dad 2 stop taking pics plz 😩
Ethan 🏒: His flash is on 😒
Caroline looked up to see Matt standing against the netted fence of the play area, Scarlett on his shoulders and his phone out in his hand, and sure enough, a quick flash coming from his phone.
Caroline: Don’t worry, I’ll tell him.
Caroline: Now put your phone away, it’s not good date etiquette.
Ethan 🏒: Thank u 👍🏻
Caroline left her messages and went to her favorite contacts, clicking Matt’s name and bringing the phone up to her ear. She watched as he looked at his screen and then brought the camera down, answering her call and bringing his phone to his ear. “Hello?”
“Your flash is on you know,” she said, watching as he looked at his phone and then looked over towards her. “Ethan texted me to tell you to stop taking pictures. Maybe turn the flash off before you try again, hm?”
“Shit, okay thanks,” he replied, looking back over at the rink. “Did you get any more pictures?”
“Tons, and I have the better view, so you can stop being a creeper,” she replied, smiling at him.
“Daddy, go play!” she heard Scarlett whine, also watching her pat the top of Matt’s head.
“Okay, we’ll go,” he said, keeping a hand on her left leg as he looked towards Caroline. “You’ll keep taking pictures?”
“Absolutely. We’ve got two sets of grandparents, aunts and uncles and Melody’s parents requesting pictures for this moment. I’m getting tons.”
“Perfect, we’ll be over in a bit. Scar’s been eyeing this kid's hotdog for the last two minutes.”
“Good thing we brought snacks then,” Caroline laughed, shaking her head. “Love you, let the toddler play and tire her out.”
“Sounds like a plan, love you too.”
She watched as Matt hung up the phone and then brought his phone up towards the rink one more time, this time no flash before putting his phone back into his pocket and then helping Scarlett down off of his shoulders
Another message notification popped up from Matt and she opened it to see a picture of Ethan and Melody on the other side of the rink, still skating side by side and the both of them smiling and looking as if they were in the middle of a conversation.
Matty 💙: How’s this for incognito? 😉
Tumblr media
Ethan and Melody had skated for the first hour before they ventured off the floor and over to buy some food, actually having to sit at the table with Caroline, Matt and Scarlett because there were no available tables. Matt and Caroline both tried their best not to ask any questions that would possibly embarrass the two of them or cause Ethan to give them a glare, and Scarlett had offered more than kept the two of them entertained by also trying to steal their slices of pizza despite Matt continuing to try and get her to snack on the puff snacks they’d brought along with them.
Once they finished eating, the two went back off to the arcade for about ten to twenty minutes before making their way back out onto the floor to skate again, and then Matt went off to go buy him and Caroline two slices of pizza and Scarlett some chicken tenders that, every time she noticed whenever Ethan and Melody would skate by, she’d either try to offer it to them or wave it at them. Something Caroline had to consistently get on her for since she almost dropped it onto the rink floor. They were waiting for the yawns to start, especially when they gave her the sippy cup of breastmilk from their freezer stash that they were almost through with until they could fully wean Scarlett onto cows milk. Unfortunately, the milk did not make Scarlett tired like it normally did and they were stuck trying to keep her occupied since the play area was now filled with tweens taking breaks from skating.
So anytime Matt or Caroline had to get up, whether just to walk around, throw trash away– they always took Scarlett with them, holding her hand and letting her walk to try and get rid of some excess energy she had. This included when Caroline told Matt that she’d be right back because she had to go to the bathroom. And the mere mention of the bathroom had Scarlett perking up and saying she wanted to go too. Caroline knew that the chances of Scarlett actually having to go to the bathroom were slim, because at home, Scarlett would follow absolutely anyone into the bathroom if you didn’t close the door in time. The first time she followed Ethan into the bathroom, she was crawling and 10 months old. He was absolutely traumatized and kept trying to get her to leave, but anytime he picked her up and placed her outside of the bathroom door, she cried. So, Ethan let her into the bathroom and then called out for Matt or Caroline to come and get her.
Most recently, since Scarlett found out that Madeline got to wear “princess undies” and asked Matt and Caroline if she could have some too, they’ve spent the better half of the last week and a half trying to potty train her. The first four days were a mess, quite literally. She absolutely refused to use the training potty they’d gotten for her, because she wanted to use the “big kid potty,” but they told her that once she got used to her training potty, then they’d see about letting her use the “big kid potty.” So far they were going on three nights in a row of Scarlett not having a wet diaper in the morning, and always announcing when she needed to use the bathroom by saying “go potty, please” and then they would take her to go use it if they were at one of their parents house or out of the house, but if they were at home, she would walk herself into the bathroom downstairs and use it.
By no means was it easy, and every time she used the potty correctly Caroline or Matt would give her some cut up strawberries which she absolutely loved, and while they wanted to try and stay away from bribery, Matt was the one who started it by bribing Ethan with m&m’s to clean his room when he was younger, and it since carried over to Scarlett’s potty training– though he likes to call it “a reward system” and with that change of perspective, they were both on board– though it would stop since Ethan no longer gets m&m’s for cleaning his room.
Surprisingly though, this time around, Scarlett actually did have to use the restroom, waiting until Caroline was done going before asking for help to unbutton her white bodysuit, already having taken down her leggings and making Caroline laugh at the eagerness to use the toilet. Unfortunately, there were no strawberries in the diaper bag, so she was promised some strawberries in the morning for breakfast, but was nonetheless excited to run out and tell Matt about the feat.
“Daddy guess what!” Scarlett smiled, running the short distance over to where Matt was sitting at the table.
Matt turned in his seat leaning over and resting his elbows on his knees. “What? Did you see Elmo over in the arcade?”
“No,” she giggled, bouncing on her feet before throwing her arms in the air. “I go pee-pee in the big kid potty!”
“What?” Matt gasped, a smile on his face, reaching out and picking her up. “You did?”
“Yeah!” She smiled, clapping her hands together. “Mommy says I get berries for breakfast.”
“I don’t know, we might have to do something better for this monumental occasion,” Matt sighed, shaking his head as he placed her down onto his legs, letting her stand up on him. “Like maybe pancakes with berries.”
“PANCAKES?” Scarlett squealed, turning around and looking at Caroline. “Mommy, I get pancakes please!”
Caroline laughed, sitting down in her chair and nodding. “We’ll make pancakes tomorrow.”
“Yay!” Scarlett cheered, bouncing up and down. “Pancakes, pancakes!”
“Why don’t you tell Ethan your big news, Scar?” Matt said, pointing out at the floor. “See him and Melody coming around? When they get closer you should tell him about the pancakes too.”
Scarlett crawled up onto the table and sat on her knees, leaning back against her shoes and resting her hands on the edge, waiting for Ethan and Melody to come around. “Ethie!” Scarlett yelled, who knows if Ethan could hear her over the music. “Ethie!”
Ethan and Melody stopped just in front of their table, staying close to the edge so no one would run them over. “What’s up? Is something wrong?” Ethan asked, looking at Matt and Caroline.
“Ethie, I go pee-pee in the big kid potty!” Scarlett smiled leaning over the edge to try and give Ethan a hug. “We have berries and pancakes tomorrow, Mommy and Daddy say so!”
Ethan looked at Matt and Care, his face starting to turn red at the fact that his little sister was announcing out loud her potty training, and was desperately trying to tell them to help him out since it was clearly embarrassing.
“That’s awesome Scar!” Melody smiled, holding up her right hand. “Can you give me a high-five?”
“Mhhm,” Scarlett nodded, using her own right hand to hit Melody’s before holding her hand out for Ethan. “Ethie, five too?”
“Yeah, come here,” Ethan sighed, reaching over the edge and picking Scarlett up and giving her a hug. He carefully put her back down and held up his hand for a high-five, Scarlett smiling and hitting it. “We can even watch a movie tonight too–”
“Ducks!” She cheered, throwing her arms in the air. “We watch ducks, please?”
“Okay,” Ethan laughed, nudging her back away from the edge so she wouldn’t fall over. “Ducks it is.”
“Annnnd this is when we let Ethan and Melody keep skating, Scar,” Caroline said, putting her arm in front of Scarlett so she didn’t try to get closer to the edge. “Say bye.”
“Bye!” She waved as Ethan and Melody moved away from the edge and continued to skate around the rink. “We play games daddy?”
“Yes we can,” Matt said, reaching out for Scarlett.
“And now we’re going to go ahead and play the first slow song of the night, meaning clear the floor if you’re solo and go ahead and grab that special someone because now it’s time for couples skate.” The DJ announced, as the previous upbeat song faded out, the different colored disco lights above had changed color patterns and a new slower song started to play.
“Actually,” Matt smiled, grabbing his phone out of his pocket instead. “Let’s stay and watch Ethan and Melody for a bit.”
“Do you think they’ll stay on the floor?” Caroline asked, ducking down slightly as she grabbed her own phone.
“They better, he called it a couples skate and they’re on a date.” Matt replied, slowly trying to raise his phone. “The better question is if he’ll hold her hand.”
Taylor Swift’s Lover remix started to play and they both kept a secret eye out for Ethan and Melody as they skated around the rink and the solo people got off of the floor, the two of them still skating side by side and not holding hands.
“Pst, Scar,” Matt whispered, poking her side. “When Ethie comes by, tell him to hold Melody’s hand,”
Caroline’s jaw dropped as she looked at him. “Matthew–”
“Ethie, hold Mellie hand!” Scarlett yelled, leaning fully against the edge with a pouty face as Ethan and Melody skated by, but thankfully they were gone by the time she had added on “because daddy said so!”
“Okay, you go play in the arcade, stop embarrassing him.” Caroline said, waving Matt off. “I’ll get pictures or a video, but you need to go tire her out.”
“Come on Scar,” Matt sighed, picking her up and propping her up on his hip. “Let’s go see if we can win any cool prizes.”
As Matt walked away, Caroline kept trying to nonchalantly keep an eye out on Melody and Ethan, both who looked to be a little bit embarrassed by Scarlett’s outburst, but at least were still skating together on the floor. As much as Caroline and Matt had wanted Ethan to step out of his comfort zone on his first date, they knew exactly what he was feeling. It was one thing to be on your first date and be unsure of what to do, when to hold their hand or if you were going to kiss or not. But it was another to worry about all of that and then have your parents be in a close vicinity. So while she did tell Matt she’d take pictures, she really was trying to make it seem like she wasn’t paying that much attention to the two tweens– not wanting to add any more pressure from being chaperoned onto the already nervous date.
But the moment that she saw Ethan hold his hand out and motion for Melody to copy him and then saw Melody do the same, only for Ethan to smile and hold Melody’s hand– she knew exactly what he had done and where he’d learned it from. Because it was always how Matt used to get her to hold his hand between that period of being ten years old all the way until they were dating.
“Hey Care?” Matt asked, the two of them sitting on the side of the boat and waiting for fireworks to start over the lake.
“Hm?” She asked, looking up from her newest read of the summer, Tuck Everlasting, and turning off the book light clip she’d bought at the scholastic book fair this year.
“I want to show you something,” he replied, turning towards her, reaching out for her book and dog eared the corner of the page she was reading. “So put the book away.”
“Don’t fold my pages!” She gasped, smacking his hand away and quickly unfolding the page, placing her bookmark in the book upside down, her own method of reminding herself which page she was on. “And if it’s another bug, go show Brady instead.”
“It’s not, just put the book down so I can show you,” he huffed, rolling his eyes.
Caroline rolled her eyes back and placed her book down in her lap before turning to him. “What?”
“Okay, so put your right hand out like this,” he said, holding his left hand out just ahead of him, his palm facing the air.
“Matthew, if you’re going to play a trick on me, I’m not in the mood. I’m burnt–”
“Just do it, Caroline,” he replied, bringing out the full name, a smile on his face as she rolled her eyes again and held out her right hand, copying exactly what he did. “Okay, ready?”
“I swear to God Matthew, if you slap my hand or–” she paused once Matt placed his left hand on top of hers and intertwined their fingers together. “Oh.”
“Ha,” he smiled, his face red with a slight sunburn and his hair still wet from his shower. “I got you to hold my hand, now you have to hold it until the fireworks are over.”
“Okay,” Caroline smiled, shrugging her shoulders as she opened her book with her left hand. “That just means you have to turn the pages for me.”
Still smiling, Matt nodded his head. “Okay.”
Caroline didn’t care if she wasn’t hiding her phone that well as she snapped pictures of the two of them skating hand in hand as they skated by her and around the rink. And she knew for a fact that Ethan had seen her, because as she looked back in one of the pictures, she could see him looking directly at the camera, but miraculously, or maybe because she had already taken the picture before he had the chance to drop it, he was smiling.
“Mommy, look!” Scarlett smiled, Matt sitting her down on the table as she showed Caroline the plastic container with a red lid. “I won prize. Open please!”
Caroline grabbed the plastic container known to mostly come out of the quarter machines with the knobs you turn and looked at Matt. “What? Your prize winning skills are lacking?”
“That’s the only one she wanted to play,” he replied, plopping down in the seat across from her. “We didn’t even get into the arcade or past those machines. I tried to tell her they weren’t real games, but she insisted.”
Caroline opened the plastic ball, taking the lid off to reveal the white piece of squared paper, and when she picked it up and flipped it over, it was a flaming heart with an arrow through it– a temporary tattoo. She looked at Matt, holding it up. “Really Matthew?”
“She’s the one who picked the machine. I told her it was tattoos and not a toy.” He replied, shrugging as he dug through the diaper bag in search of the baggy of cut up celery. “But someone got her mommy’s stubbornness.”
“Yay heart!” Scarlett smiled, reaching for the tattoo and holding it in her left hand, pointing at Caroline. “I be like mommy!”
Matt grabbed Scarlett and turned her to face him. “How about we put your tattoo right here on your arm where everyone can see it instead of where mommy’s is?” Matt asked, placing the paper down in the middle of Scarlett’s forearm.
“No Daddy,” Scarlett frowned, lifting up her light blue striped shirt, only to show her white bodysuit, and pointing right where her heart was. “I wan here like mommy.”
“Sorry princess,” Matt replied, tugging the shirt out of her grasp and pulling it down. “But no tattoos there until you’re 18 and mommy and I can’t tell you no,” he smiled, handing her the tattoo, “So pick a spot on your arm and go ahead and stop pouting, because daddy isn’t changing his mind.”
As Caroline handed him a bottle of water and he got to work on putting Scarlett’s temporary tattoo on her, Lover came to an end and more people were brought onto the rink, yet Ethan and Melody were still holding hands.
“Did you teach E the ‘I want to show you something’ hand holding trick?” She asked, looking away from the rink and towards Matt.
Matt smiled, pouring some water into a small towel they had in the pockets of the diaper bag, nodding his head. “Yeah, he asked me how to get Melody to hold his hand, or something along the lines of how to hold hands on a date. So I told him about how I used to pull that trick on you all the time when we were kids to get you to hold mine. Why?”
“Because I watched him pull that exact trick out on Melody when they were skating,” She smiled, opening the photos and sliding her phone over to Matt. “Don’t worry, I got pictures of the evidence.”
“No kidding?” Matt held the damp towel against Scarlett’s arm and looked down at the phone, smiling as he swiped through the pictures. “Huh, then he’ll probably take my kissing advice too.”
“What kissing advice could you have to give him at 12?” She asked, rolling her eyes. “Stuff your mouth with fifteen mints beforehand so your breath doesn’t smell like dinner?”
“Ha ha, very funny,” Matt replied, rolling his eyes. “But no, it was much simpler than that.” He lifted up the towel and placed it down onto the table, looking at Caroline with a smile. “I told him not to get their braces stuck together, because we’d have to go to the nearest fire station to get them unstuck with wire cutters.”
“Kiss daddy,” Scarlett said, puckering her lips.
Matt laughed, giving her a kiss before carefully peeling off the paper backing of the tattoo to reveal the heart on her arm. After blowing on it a few times, he held it up so Caroline could see. “There you go princess, a tattoo like mommy.”
“Yay!” Scarlett smiled, turning around and showing Caroline. “See mommy? I like you now!”
“Very pretty, princess,” Caroline smiled, holding onto her arm and looking at the tattoo.
“Kiss please,” Scarlett replied, puckering her lips up again.
“Of course,” Caroline laughed and pulled her closer to her side of the table before giving the toddler a kiss. “Why thank you, Scarlett. Now how about you put your jacket on because it’s getting a little cold in here.”
“Okay, mommy,” Scarlett nodded, Matt handed Caroline the jacket from her diaper bag and Caroline put it onto her, zipping it up. “Hood too?”
“And your hood,” Caroline nodded, putting the hood onto her head. “There you go.”
“Cuddle with Ethie now?” Scarlett asked, a frown on her face as she looked out towards the rink for Melody and Ethan.
“Ethie’s busy, princess,” Matt said, turning her around. “But how about some cuddles with daddy and Mr. Hippopotamus? Would that be okay?”
“Okay,” she nodded, letting Matt pick her up and rest her in his lap. Caroline handed over Mr. Hippopotamus and watched as the toddler hugged it to her chest and snuggled down into Matt’s chest, staring out towards the rink.
Matt rested his chin down on top of her head as he held her close to him and looked at Caroline with a smile. “Change your mind on that thing we talked about earlier yet?” He asked, taking a quick glimpse down at Scarlett.
“Mmm, I might be able to be persuaded,” Caroline shrugged, taking one of the celery sticks out of the snack back and biting it.
Scarlett gasped, looking at the bag. “I want one please!” Matt grabbed a celery stick and handed it to Scarlett, who just snuggled back against Matt and just held onto the stick, not even eating it.
Matt kissed the top of her hood as he rubbed her back and looked at Caroline with a smile. “We’ve got the rest of the summer to practice and talk.”

It wasn’t supposed to be different.
Well, yeah, it was supposed to be different from when she first kissed him on Valentines Day when they were eight-years-old, and all of the times they’ve hung out every summer just the two of them– but not this different. Just because they weren’t just “hanging out” and were on a date, doesn’t mean that it was supposed to be different at all.
His parents never told him that it felt different on their first date to the school dance or what they called their “official” first date to Papa Walt’s pre-season games. They always played it off as if it felt like any other time they hung out together, but then they were more than just best friends. Everything was fine when he asked her if she wanted to go on a date, it didn’t feel any different because they were at the rink just having fun and practicing with his Dad, BeeBee and some of their other NHL playing friends.
“What are you doing this weekend?” He asked, the two of them picking up pucks from the end of the rink that they had to themselves.
“Um, I don’t think anything,” she shrugged, dumping the pucks she’d gathered in her practice jersey, down into the bucket. “My parents are going on a date for their anniversary, so I’ll probably just be home with Nonnie since she’s visiting from Texas for a bit since Andrew’s got a lot of road games this whole week. Why?”
“No reason,” Ethan replied, shaking his head as he ducked down into the net, keeping his back to her as he closed his eyes in frustration.
‘Stop being a scaredy cat, just ask her.’
“Actually, there is a reason,” he replied, standing up just slightly and hitting the top of the net with his head, forgetting it was there and immediately feeling his face and ears heat up in embarrassment.
“Here,” Melody laughed, bringing the bucket over. “At least we’re still small enough to where we don’t lift the entire nets like our dads.”
Ethan nodded, moving out from under the net and dropping the pucks he’d picked up into the bucket. “Papa Walt just says that my dad has a big head.”
Melody looked over her shoulder towards where his dad and everyone else was, tilting her head to the side and then looking back at him with a smile. “I’d say it’s slightly bigger than average.” She carried the bucket with them as they went to the corner boards, putting the bucket down onto the ice. “So what’s the reason? You said there was a reason why you were asking…what is it?”
“Oh uh,” Ethan cleared his throat, bending down and stacking a few pucks in his hands as he stood back up and dropped them into the bucket, shrugging. “Just seeing if maybe…we can hangout.”
“Like we are right now?” She asked, tossing more pucks into the bucket.
“Well, I mean…yeah, but no,” Ethan replied, shaking his head and picking up more pucks. “Like this, but not this…not during the day, maybe at night or something?”
“Eth–”
“Okay so a date!” He huffed, dropping the pucks into the bucket and when he looked at her and saw the shock on her face, his heart dropped and he felt nervous. “Maybe…if that’s okay?”
“So…it won’t be just us hanging out like we are right now?” She asked, furrowing her eyebrows. “But a date? Like a date, date?”
Ethan blinked, unsure of how to reply. He just kind of figured she’d say either yes or no, not that he’d have to explain himself. He’s never even been on a date before, so how was he supposed to know if there was really a difference? “Yeah. Like a date, date.”
Melody smiled, first it was a closed lipped one and then it grew, showing off her turquoise braces. Ethan may have hated his braces and thought that they made him look like a major dork, he’d always thought hers were pretty from the moment she sent him a selfie the day she got them. Not that there was ever a moment when he thought anything about her was ugly, but the braces, like everything else about her, just seemed to fit and make her prettier.
“Yeah, I’d love to,” she nodded, picking the bucket back up. “I’ll have to ask my mom and dad first though, but I doubt they’ll say no.”
“Really?!” He smiled, catching himself in excitement and clearing his throat. “I mean, yeah…me too. Ask my mom and dad, not yours. I don’t think mine will say no either, because they really like you. I mean I like you too, but they–”
“Ethan?” Melody laughed, cutting him off as she looked at him.
“Yeah?” He asked, skating beside her as they brought the full bucket of pucks to center ice.
“I already said yes,” she reached out and rested a hand on his shoulder, still smiling as she shook her head. “So relax, you dork.”
Yeah he was nervous actually asking her, but who wouldn’t be? It was him asking his best friend in the entire world on a date– their first date– so it was still kind of a big deal. But after that, once he asked his mom and dad and they talked to Melody’s parents, the rest of the week felt normal. He talked to Melody, hung out with her and nothing ever felt majorly different. But from the moment they pulled up in front of the Hastings’ he was nervous. It didn’t help that while he didn’t have a total black eye from where Scarlett had whacked him with the toe of her mini-stick, he did have a small amount of red swelling and slight bruising just along his left cheekbone like his mom said he most likely would.
Despite his parents hanging around in the rink with Scarlett and being within eyesight of him and Melody, Ethan was still able to have a pretty fun time. They skated a lot, challenging each other to see who would get around the rink faster or even just catching up on their lives in school of things they hadn’t managed to discuss throughout the school year and keeping up with each other every day. He talked about how different school was in Calgary compared to Shadowlawn and how he got to walk with Adam every day after school over to the high school where their mom’s worked.
Everything was going great, even when they decided to stop for something to eat and realized that they had to sit with his parents and Scarlett. It wasn’t that bad, because Scarlett was like a nice buffer in the switch from skating on the rink to sitting down and talking with his parents and getting entertained by Scarlett trying to tell them about the slide…that and she kept trying to steal the cheese or pepperoni off of their slices, especially his, even if she was holding a punch of puff snacks in one hand that their dad had been trying to feed her instead.
The worst part of the night, and it wasn’t even that bad really, was how when they went to the arcade, he spent the remainder of his allowance that he’d saved up for tonight, trying to win her a stuffed animal from one of the claw games. He tried, she tried, and the cycle continued before he eventually ran out of money and she did too, so they went back onto the floor. Of course not without Scarlett not trying to get them to stop every time that they skated by, even almost dropping a chicken tender on the floor and Ethan could already see that play out in his head where an employee would ask his parents to leave because of the toddler dropping chicken tenders onto the floor where someone ran it over and broke a leg. Then if they left, that meant he and Melody would have to leave because they already said that there was no way they were going to sit in the car while the two of them were in here.
“What’s your next excuse?” Melody laughed, out of breath as they both slowed down and moved towards the inner part of the skating circle. “You tripped on a chicken tender?”
“Ha ha, very funny,” Ethan replied, rolling his eyes as he slowed up beside her. “But no, no more excuses. You’re clearly a better skater than me.”
Melody smiled, bumping her shoulder against his. “I think I might get that in writing so one day when you’re in the NHL and competing in fastest skater, I’ll have it as proof that I’m a better one and you know it.”
“Or you could just train me so that way when I win and they pull me off to the side for an interview and ask, I can give you all the credit,” he smiled, the two of them still standing shoulder to shoulder.
“I’ll be sure to draft up a price chart for your lessons every summer,” she replied, nodding her head, looking ahead of them, then pointing. “I think your parents are waving us over…or at least Scar is.”
He looked over just ahead of them to see Scarlett sitting back against her shoes on the table yelling something, but he couldn’t quite hear her over the music. But it was the fact she was staring right at them that told him Melody was right. They kept the pace, moving themselves closer to the edge as they rounded the corner right by where his parents were sitting at the table, coming to a stop just in front of it.
“What’s up?” He asked, Scarlett staying where she was and not saying anything as he looked at their parents. “Is something wrong?”
“Ethie, I go pee-pee in the big kid potty!” She smiled, scooting herself all the way to the edge and reaching her arms out to try and hug him. “We have berries and pancakes tomorrow, mommy and daddy say so!”
The one person he could rely on not to embarrass him in front of Melody, just turned on him at the worst possible moment and with the worst possible thing. Sure, Scarlett is a cute toddler, but the last thing he wants to talk about on his date is the fact that his little sister just used the adult toilet for the first time. Melody was the youngest sibling, she didn’t have any younger relatives and she’s only ever been around Madeline and Scarlett whenever she was around him– but never once did a potty training conversation ever come up.
“That’s awesome Scar!” Melody smiled, holding her right hand up for Scarlett. “Can you give me a high-five?”
“Mhhm!” Scarlett nodded, using her own right hand to hit Melody’s before holding her hand out for him. “Ethie, five too?”
Ethan blinked in awe that Melody never even cringed at Scarlett’s bathroom announcement. To him the moment the news left Scarlett’s mouth, he wanted to crawl into a hole and hide. He could even feel his ears and face start to heat up with embarrassment…until Melody was the one who broke through the slight awkward silence with excitement. That made everything a little less embarrassing for him, and what really sealed the deal was how Scarlett was looking at him. It was hard enough that she was a cute toddler and had the chubby baby cheeks like he’d had in all his baby pictures, but she had their mom’s eyes and she was pulling off the puppy dog pout the way he’d taught her to and it just made him think of her being sad and then their mom being sad…and he hated thinking of that or even seeing it.
“Yeah, come here,” he sighed, reaching over the edge and picking her up, feeling her squeeze her arms around his neck as he hugged her. When he put her back down onto the table, he held up his left hand for a high-five and Scarlett smiled, hitting his hand. “We can even watch a movie tonight too–”
“Ducks!” She cheered, throwing her arms in the air. “We watch ducks, please?”
He couldn’t help but smile. Not like he hadn’t been training her to watch and enjoy the mighty ducks movies with him since she was a baby, he totally had and it was clearly paying off very well. “Okay,” he carefully nudged her back a little away from the edge,  not wanting her to fall over. “Ducks it is.
“Annnnd this is when we let Ethan and Melody keep skating, Scar,” his mom said, moving her arm in front of Scarlett so she wouldn't try to get closer to the edge. “Say bye.”
“Bye!” Scarlett waved as Ethan and Melody moved away from the edge and continued to skate around the rink.
“She’s cute,” Melody said, nodding behind them. “Makes me wish I had a younger sibling.”
Ethan nodded. “Yeah, she’s a lot of fun when she’s not whacking me in the face with a mini stick or trying to follow me into the bathroom.”
“Oh come on, you love her,” Melody teased, reaching up and poking his cheek. “Admit it. She’s the best thing to ever happen, because I know for a fact that you’ve been dying for a brother or sister since forever.”
“I didn’t say that I didn’t love her. She’s just, a lot sometimes, because she always wants to be around me,” Ethan laughed, shaking his head as he looked at her. “Bathtime? I always have to be there. Before I used to just sit on the toilet while my mom or dad gave her a bath, but now I just put on my swim trunks and get in with her because she wants to play with toys. And when we brush our teeth, she likes to sit on the sink and brush her teeth with me. She won’t let our mom or dad put the toothpaste on her brush, only me.”
“Sounds to me like she really loves her big brother,” Melody said, nudging him again.
All of a sudden, just when things were starting to feel like they were normal– like it was them being two best friends just on a date– the stupid DJ pulls a stunt like that. Maybe it was because he was too young to ever really pay attention to the fact that there was a couples skate, but now he was well aware and his heart was thumping against his chest as he started to notice that one by one, people who weren’t in a pair were walking off the rink. And those that were? Well, they were holding hands and still skating along.
At least he knew the song– it was one his mom always used to listen to when he was younger. She’s still to this day a big fan of Taylor Swift. But it’s still pretty awkward to skate to a song called lover, on their first date…when technically, they weren’t even a couple. So were they allowed to stay skating around? Oh God, what would his parents think? He could easily hear the teasing from his dad now and at least he knew that his mom would step in to defend him from it, unless she took part in it too and–
“Hello? Ethan?” Melody said, waving her hand in front of his face. “Are you in there?”
“What?” He asked, shaking himself out of his thoughts. “Oh, yeah…sorry, I was just trying to figure out what song it was. My mom listens to her music all the time.”
“Nonnie does too.” Melody nodded, the two still skating side by side as they kept getting passed by couples.
“Ethie, hold Mellie hand!” Scarlett yelled, fully leaning against the edge of the rink, her signature frustrated pout on her face as the two of them skated by.
Unfortunately, this time he was able to hear what she was saying…which meant that Melody could too. And that was only confirmed when he could see her tuck her chin into her chest out of the corner of his eye. And there was no stopping himself from turning red right there. Just when he thought that Scarlett could come through for him…she does this.
He was definitely looking forward to the day where he didn’t need chaperones on his dates.
“So um…sixth grade!” Ethan said, quickly changing the subject. “School dances and stuff… are you excited?”
Melody shrugged her shoulders, chewing on the inside of her cheek. “I guess. Chloe said she thinks Benji might ask me to the winter one because he asked me to be his Valentine this year.”
“Oh,” Ethan frowned, shoving his hands into his pockets. “I thought you liked the stuff I sent you?”
“I did, I did!” She nodded, suddenly looking shocked. “I just— he asked me in front of the entire class and you know how my mom says I’m too nice for my own good…so I only said yes so he didn’t get embarrassed. And I told him that after school, and that you’d asked me first.”
And he did. Another time of saving up as much of his allowance that he could, though he needed a lot of assistance from his mom and dad— because while he’d sent a box filled with her favorite candies, two books and a teddy bear, his parents also helped him pick out an edible arrangement for her to eat as well. They asked him if he wanted to or anything on the card and he said yes and told them not to look while he typed it up and then made sure they didn’t see it when they filled out the payment information.
He’d written— “Mel, Happy Valentine’s Day. Will you be my Valentine for the fourth year in a row? xx E”
She texted him back a yes and funny enough, a few days later, right on Valentine’s day, he’d come home to a box on the front porch from her. Filled up with m&m’s, a pack of hockey trading cards, a cool St. Louis Blues shirt and then even one of her own trading cards from the season…signed of course.
“What about you?” She asked, fidgeting with her fingers. “Are you excited for school dances and stuff?”
“I don’t know if they do them in junior high in Canada…or at least not in Calgary,” he replied, shrugging his shoulders. “My mom and Mrs. Elizabeth chaperoned the formal this year…which I guess is like a prom. But I think that’s the only one they have.”
“That sucks.”
“Not really,” he replied, shaking his head as she looked at him. “Cause if I was going to go to a dance, I’d want to go with you.”
She smiled again and he’s known her long enough to know when she was blushing or flustered. But it was how she tucked some of her curls behind her ear that he knew she was just as nervous as he was. “I’d want to go to a dance with you too. So are you free for prom when we’re seniors in high school?”
They both laughed as Ethan just nodded and moved his head side to side. “I’ll probably be playing for the Knights by then…so I think I can manage that.”
“I like that you’re following in your dad’s footsteps,” she said, their nerves easily fading out. “I think it’s really cool, but I also hope you make it your own, you know?”
“Oh I will,” Ethan replied. “I plan on beating every and any record he made. I only wish my birthday was maybe a day or two later so I could at least beat him for being younger too when I get drafted.”
They continued to skate around the corner and Ethan looked around at all of the strictly couples only who were skating with them. Every– and literally, every single one of them…were holding hands. It was a couple skate and they were on a date. If she didn’t want to hold his hand, the worst she could do was say no. But then a part of her must like him enough to want to hold his hand since she said yes to going on a date with him. He felt himself get nervous on how to initiate it– but then he remembered the advice his dad gave him.
“Hey dad?” Ethan asked, putting the mini sticks nets away in their corner of the living room as his dad was leaning against the back of the couch, double checking that everything was in the diaper bag.
“What’s up, E?” He asked, looking up from the bag and zipping it.
“So when you’re on a date,” he turned around, slowing down his actions as he collected the mini sticks and the ball. “How do you like…hold her hand? I-I mean I know how, but like…how do you get her to?”
His dad smiled, nodding him over. “I’ll show you the trick I always used to get your mom to hold my hand when we were your age and younger before we started dating.”
Ethan placed the sticks and ball on top of the net and walked over to his dad, leaning against the couch arm. “But I don’t want to trick her into holding my hand…I want her to actually want to hold it.”
“If she doesn’t want to then she’ll just let go of your hand dude, relax. Now watch,” he said, taking a deep breath, exhaling and then rolling his shoulders forward before nodding at him. “I want to show you something.”
Ethan furrowed his eyebrows. “I thought you already were?”
“What? No, that’s— this is part of it. You tell Melody ‘I want to show you something’ and when she asks what, you tell her to put her right hand out like this,” his dad laid his hand out in front of him, palm up. “Or whichever hand you’re going to hold. But for right now, put your left hand out…do it.”
Confused, Ethan copied his dad and put his left hand out ahead of him, palm up. “And when she does, you just,” his dad reached for his hand and held it. “And voila, you’re now holding hands.”
“And that actually works?” Ethan asked, as his dad let go of his hand.
“Worked on your mom all the time.” He smiled, nodding his head. “The first time I did that was one summer when we were at the lake. We were 10 and I told her that she had to hold my hand until the fireworks were over. She did.”
Ethan nodded, leaning fully against the arm of the couch and bringing his feet off of the floor, “I kinda have one more question.”
“If you want to ask before your mom walks in, I’d make it quick. She’s the one who can get Scarlett not to put up a fight with what to wear.”
He shrugged, not wanting to look at his dad as he asked and instead focused on the sliding glass door to the backyard. “So if we were to kiss what do I do?”
“Well for one, don’t get your braces stuck together because then we’d have to go to the nearest fire station so they could use their wire cutters to get you both unstuck,” his dad replied with a smile as Ethan looked at him in panic. “But E, you guys have already kissed. I think you know what to do.”
“But we were eight!” He whined, resting his chin on his arms. “It was just a peck that lasted like two seconds.”
His dad raised an eyebrow. “So what? Are you planning on making out with her right then and there in the skating rink?”
Ethan’s face crinkled as he rolled his eyes. “Gross, dad, no. But I don’t want it to be a two second peck on the lips.”
“I gotcha,” his dad laughed, leaning his arms against the back of the couch. “Well, kissing is really just something you pick up along the way the more you do it, E. You read off of each other. So tonight, if you choose to kiss her or her you, just go off of what you feel. If you choose to do it, you can just kiss like you did when you were eight and then pull away after a few seconds and go for a second one. But do you want two pieces of real advice I can give you besides that?”
“That’d be nice since it’s what I asked for originally.”
“Dork,” his dad rolled his eyes, reaching out and nudging his head. “But really Ethan, the four most important things when it comes to kissing are this.” He held up his right thumb finger, “turn your head slightly to the right before you kiss, that one comes from Aunt Clara so thank her for that.”
He held up his index finger, “read off each other, don’t just smash your mouth against hers, okay? You have to be gentle with it.”
He held up his middle finger last and looked at him. “If and this is a big heavy if, you two do decide to make-out, make sure I am nowhere nearby because I will not only chirp you about it until I’m dead, but it will be embarrassing for both of us for many, many years.”
“And lastly, but most importantly,” he held up his ring finger. “When you’re kissing her, make sure you’re touching her also. Whether that’s her face like you see mom and I do, her waist or even just holding her hand. It’s a little more romantic if you’re touching in some way, got it?”
“Got it.”
“Hey Mel?” Ethan asked, taking his hands out of his pockets.
“Yeah?”
“I want to show you something,” he replied, holding his left hand out just like his dad had taught him to. “Put your right hand out like this.”
“Okay?” She replied, looking confused as she did what he asked and looked at him. “Why?”
Ethan smiled and moved his hand over towards hers before flipping it over and intertwining his fingers with hers— officially holding her hand. “Nothing, but it got you to hold my hand. Now you have to hold it until the song is over…or not, I-I mean you can do whatever you want to do because my mom says that nobody can tell you what to do—“
Melody laughed and squeezed his hand, smiling at him. “Okay.”
“And even if you don’t want to kiss her just yet, a kiss on the cheek is good too. I always did that to your mom even after we kissed at the school dance.” His dad smiled, reaching out and nudging his arm. “It’s a nice sentiment to let her know you care.”
Ethan quickly looked over his shoulder to see his mom was looking down at her lap, probably on her phone and he looked back at Melody, quickly leaning over and kissing her cheek before moving back. Melody looked at him, just as surprised as he was that he actually did it. But what he didn’t expect her to do, was skate closer to him to where their shoulders were touching versus having that hand holding distance between them. She leaned in, kissing his cheek before resting her head on his shoulder for just a second before standing close to him still, the two of them continuing to skate to the music.
And even as the seconds ticked on, he swore he could still feel her lips on his cheek and the warmth that had spread across his entire body the moment she did it.

When it started to near 9 o’clock, Caroline broke their promise of making sure they were out of sight and out of mind, flagging Ethan and Melody down and telling them to be ready to leave and be at the car by 9 o’clock, so that way they would leave with the younger crowd and wouldn’t get caught up in the older crowd for the night. Immediately after the warning, the two of them had done one more lap before getting off of the rink, turning in their skates and putting their shoes back on.
“Momma,” Ethan huffed, coming to a stop next to their table. “Can I have $20?”
“Sure, but where’s Melody?” Caroline asked, pulling her wallet out of her purse.
“Waiting by the arcade, I promise I’ll pay you back. I just want to try and win something for her or else I’ll look like a total dweeb.”
“Better make it $40,” Matt said, holding onto the half chewed celery stick Scarlett had started to eat before she opted for the puffs instead. “If his arcade game skills are anything like they were back when he was eight, it’s a lost cause. You were the one who won Groot, Care, remember?”
“Groot?” Scarlett asked, looking up from the puffs lid. “I want Groot!”
“No Groot,” Ethan said, pointing at Scarlett. “Groot doesn’t leave my room.”
“Groot my friend,” Scarlett said, sticking a puff in her mouth. “Mine.”
Caroline shook her head and sighed as she handed him the $20. “You both have your shoes and your belongings with you?” When Ethan nodded his head she waved him off. “9 o’clock Ethan, we’re heading out the door. Got it? That means you’ve got ten minutes.”
“Yes ma’am, thank you!” He said, immediately turning around and running to wherever he’d left Melody standing last.
“No more puffs, Scar,” Matt said, moving the toddler’s hand from trying to dig into the container. “It’s way past your bedtime and you should be sleeping, not snacking.”
“I not tired, daddy,” Scarlett said, crossing her arms and pouting. “You tired, you go sleep.”
Matt huffed, nodding his head. “Yeah, daddy is very tired. Which is why you should be tired.”
“Mr. Hipotomush tired?” Scarlett asked, looking down at her stuffed animal sitting on the table before looking back at Matt, shaking her head. “Mr. Hipotomush no tired, I no tired too.”
Caroline laughed as she packed up the diaper bag, taking the celery stick from Matt. “Scar, I know you’re excited to watch ducks with Ethie, but you might have to do that in the morning,” she said, eating the rest of the celery stick.
“No mommy!” Scarlett pouted, eyes instantly filling with tears. “I wan watch ducks night! Ducks with Ethie!”
“Sorry princess, but it’s past your bedtime and you’re going to fall asleep the moment you and Ethie lay down to watch it. And we need you to sleep in your big girl bed,” she said, tossing their trash in the trash can that was behind them since they had the corner table. “You like your big girl bed, remember?”
It wasn’t much of a real big kid bed, just her crib that was transformed into a toddler bed instead, so she wasn’t constantly trying to climb out of her crib and risk falling down onto the floor. Especially after the incident when she was a year old where Ethan had accidentally dropped her onto the floor while trying to help her out of her crib and she cried to the point where they thought she broke a bone– only to find out that she hadn’t been injured at all. But still, it wasn’t uncommon for Scarlett to find her way out of her bed and room in the early morning hours and crawl into Ethan’s bed.
A habit that Ethan doesn’t really mind, but would also prefer not to be woken up from time to time because Scarlett can’t climb up onto his bed and is demanding for him to pick her up.
“Ducks my room,” she said, grabbing her hippo and cuddling against Matt’s chest, looking away from Caroline and up at Matt. “Ethie sleep in big girl bed too.”
“Ethie’s too big for your big girl bed, princess,” Matt said, looking at her. “Maybe tomorrow during nap time, Ethie will take one with you again in his room.”
Her pouty bottom lip quivered as she shut her eyes and ducked her head down into her chest and then her 24 pound body started to tremble with sobs and hiccups. “N-no b-b-big girl,” she cried, her left fist rubbing at her left eye as her face was turning red from crying and her right arm, which had Mr. Hippopotamus clutched in its hand, reaching out for Caroline. “D-ducks b-bed, m-mom-mommy.”
“And I think this is our cue to leave,” Matt sighed, standing up from his chair and walking over to Caroline and handing a leaning Scarlett over to her. “I’ll grab the diaper bag and go start the car.”
“I’ll find Ethan and tell him to meet us out there.” She nodded, adjusting Scarlett’s hood onto her head as she sniffled into her ear and clung around Caroline’s neck for dear life.
They walked towards the entrance of the skating rink as more teens started to file into the building and towards the skate rental and rink floor. Matt walked ahead of her as Caroline stopped at the arcade and tried to skim through the crowds of people that were in it, spotting Ethan and Melody at a claw machine midway through the arcade. She made her way through the crowd of people, coming up beside them as Ethan went to put in another token.
“Your dad and I are going to the car, Scar’s getting tired so we’re just going to go ahead and get her settled in. I still want you guys out the door at 9 o’clock though, okay? No hanging around.”
“Yes ma’am,” he and Melody said, nodding as they turned their attention back to the claw machine.
She turned back around, rubbing Scarlett’s back since the toddler was no longer crying, still just sniffling quietly, and made her way back through the crowds and then out the exit door of the skating rink and across the parking lot to where Matt had started the car and was waiting at the trunk, leaning against the back of the car.
“Want me to put her in the seat?” Matt asked, standing up straight as Caroline got closer.
“No it’s okay, I’ve got it, you can get in the car,” she said, walking over to the passengers side back door and opening it as Matt walked around to the drivers side. “Okay, Scar you gotta let go of mommy’s neck so she can put you in your car seat okay?”
“No,” Scarlett mumbled, digging her head further into the crook of Caroline’s shoulder.
“How about if mommy sits back here with you?” Caroline asked, trying to get the toddler to look at her. “Will you get in your car seat then? And I’ll sit back here with you until Ethie and Melody get back?”
Scarlett leaned back, nodding her head as Caroline stood her up on the back seat. “Yes please.”
“Okay, climb on in and I’ll sit back here with you.” Caroline smiled, taking Scarlett’s jacket off and then using the sleeves to wipe her cheeks before kissing her cheek and letting her climb into her car seat and sit down. Caroline sat down and closed the door behind her and scooted closer to Scarlett’s car seat, starting to buckle her in as Scarlett hugged onto her hippopotamus.
“Keep an eye out on them, Matt?” Caroline asked, sliding her hand beneath Scarlett’s buckle and softly rubbing her stomach to see if it would get her to fall asleep.
“Were they almost done?” He asked, looking at her through the rearview mirror.
“I don’t know, but I told him 9 o’clock still, so he’s got about,” Caroline peeped at the clock on the touch screen, nodding. “Two minutes to be outside.”
Caroline leaned her head against the headrest of the middle seat as she watched Scarlett slowly start to drift to sleep, only an hour past her bedtime. She kept rubbing her stomach softly, just until she was sure that Scarlett was fast asleep. Scarlett wasn’t a light sleeper by any means, it always took a little extra effort to get her to sleep and to wake her up from a nap, so Caroline knew that if she kept rubbing her stomach for the next two minutes, along with Scarlett having cried so hard, then she would be fast asleep in no time.
“Sh, is that them right there?” Matt asked, whipping his head around and staring through the rear window.
“Matthew, quiet!” Caroline whispered, nodding down at Scarlett. “But what are you talking about?”
“Turn around,” he said, nodding back and Caroline followed his gaze, looking through the back window. “Right there by the exit door, is that them walking out and getting ready to stand by the wall?”
Caroline squinted, trying to figure out in the group of kids walking in and out of the rink, were the two that belonged to them,  until she spotted just who Matt was talking about– and sure enough, it was Ethan and Melody. “Yeah, that’s them. Do you think they forgot where we parked? Hold on let me get out and–”
“No!” Matt said, reaching back and smacking at her hand, shaking his head. “They definitely didn’t forget where the car’s parked. Your car literally has an #7 junior-flames hockey sticker on it.”
“Then why are they just standing there?” She asked, turning back and peering through the window.
“He asked me earlier when you were getting Scar dressed about how to hold her hand and kiss her, so if I’m guessing right, he’s probably going to kiss her.”
“What?” Caroline gasped, looking back at him. “But he’s a baby, he’s only like 8.”
“That’s what you said when he actually was eight and kissed Melody the first time, only you said he was four.” Matt laughed, rolling his eyes. “There, there mama bear. The first little cub is just growing up.”
“I know,” she frowned and sighed, looking down at a still fast asleep Scarlett. “Now I know how our parents feel. It sucks but is also equally awesome to watch them grow.” She looked back over her shoulder to see Ethan and Melody talking, both of them sort of shielded by a car parked nearby. “We should probably give them privacy.”
“Are you kidding?” Matt scoffed, motioning towards the back window. “Besides, this is revenge for all the times he cockblocked me. Not to mention while our parents didn’t see our first kiss, my dad wasn’t afraid to literally tap on the glass during a break on the ice because he saw me kiss you before his shift change. Plus I want to see if he took my advice.”
“Good point,” Caroline replied, turning around in her seat and looking out the window while partially trying to hide behind the headrest. “Do you see a stuffed animal? I hope he was able to win one for her. I know he was–”
“Sh!” Matt gasped, hitting the front passenger headrest. “What’s he doing? You’re closer. Is he holding her hand?”
Caroline rolled her eyes. “I’m barely closer and it’s dark–”
“What’s he doing? Hand, face, or waist?”
“What?” Caroline asked, looking at him over her shoulder. “What the hell are you talking about Matthew?”
Matt sighed and rolled his eyes. “I told him that when he kisses a girl, he should be touching her. Either her face, her waist or holding her hand. So turn back around and tell me if braceface is following my advice.”
Caroline shook her head and tried to lean forward more. “Uh…” she squinted more, tilting her head to the side. “Both? Maybe?”
“Both? Care I gave you three–”
“Fine, fine um…well he’s holding her right hand and–” Caroline’s eyes widened as she gasped, reaching back and reaching for Matt’s hand that was resting on the side of the passenger seat. “He moved a hand to her cheek, Matthew.”
No sooner than she said that, did Ethan lean in closer to Melody and from where she and Matt were sitting in the car, it looked like the two of them were kissing.
Caroline was smacking at Matt’s hand, pointing out the window. “Matthew, he's kissing her, they’re kissing!”
Ethan pulled away, but just a short moment later, Melody leaned back in and kissed him again, causing Matt to swat at Caroline’s hand. “Stop swatting at me and enjoy the fact that our son has major game like his dad.”
Caroline turned towards Matt, raising an eyebrow as she snorted. “Alright, sure we’ll go with that.” When she turned back around, the two were still kissing before finally pulling away and then the both of them started to walk away from where they were standing and back in a more clear view, headed towards the car holding hands.
“Shit, turn back around,” Matt huffed, quickly turning forward and adjusting his position in his seat before turning the radio up just a little bit. “Act natural.”
Caroline carefully turned forward in her seat, but propped the car door open just enough to where whoever got in on this side would know that someone could be back there and then pretended to double check Scarlett’s buckles.
“Oh hi, Mrs. Caroline,” Melody said, opening the door and standing just outside of it. “Did you want to sit back here with Scarlett?”
“Oh no, that’s fine sweetie. She just wanted me to sit back here with her until you both got back,” Caroline said, scooting out of the seat. “But she just fell asleep so just try to be a little quiet when you get in. She shouldn’t wake up, but just in case.”
Melody nodded and let Caroline get out of the car before Caroline switched places with her and then went to close the door once Melody got inside, only for Ethan to close it first. “So you won a claw machine prize after all?” Caroline asked, noting how Melody had been carrying a stuffed Patrick Star plush.
“I tried to get the Scooby Doo one because that was her favorite cartoon when we were little, but his head kept slipping through the claw,” Ethan nodded, shrugging his shoulders. “And somehow I grabbed Patrick on the last try…so I don’t have any change for you, sorry.”
“It’s fine Ethan, I’m just glad you had fun,” she smiled, nudging his back. “Now go ahead and get in the car.”
He nodded and walked around the back of the car to the drivers side and Caroline opened the front passenger door and got in, closing it behind her. “Alright, time to go home. We’ve got a curfew to meet and multiple bedtimes have been delayed. Ethan’s included–”
“Dad!” Ethan groaned, barely done with putting his seatbelt on as he glared at Matt. “I don’t have a bedtime!”
“Ethan Matthew!” Caroline said, turning around and looking at him. “Your sister is sleeping, quiet down.” She turned to Matt, nudging his elbow as he put the car into reverse. “And Matthew, stop teasing him. We get it, it’s past your bedtime.”
“Not all of us can be youthful tweens,” Matt teased, rolling his eyes as he started to pull out of the parking lot. “And some of us need our beauty sleep. Ethan is most definitely one of– ow!” He looked towards Caroline, furrowing his eyebrows as he rolled his right shoulder. “What was that for?”
“Figure it out,” she replied, giving him another look before relaxing into her seat. “Melody, your mom said that you know to text her and Nonnie when we were leaving the rink. Don’t forget to, sweetheart.”
“Yes ma’am, I’m doing it now.” Melody replied, the light coming from her phone screen being the only source of light in the backseat.
They listened to the radio play softly on the car ride home, Melody asking Matt about the last season and about the upcoming season and then Caroline about how she likes teaching at her new school and how her mom misses working with Caroline and that she said Coach Preston was having trouble finding a new teacher to bother. By the time they pulled up to the Hastings’ house, only Nonnie’s car was in the driveway, which allowed Matt to pull up so Ethan and Melody didn’t have far to walk.
“Thank you for driving us tonight, Mrs. Caroline and Mr. Matt,” Melody said, unbuckling her seatbelt and opening her door. “And thanks for letting us go, I had a lot of fun.”
“Of course, Melody. It’s always a pleasure getting to hang out with you,” Caroline replied. “Tell Nonnie we said hi and that I still give her permission to smack Andrew upside the head every once in a while if it’s deserved. She can even say it's from me.”
“Okay, Mrs. Caroline,” Melody laughed, nodding her head. “Goodnight!” They waved goodbye as Melody closed her door and Ethan was already standing there to walk up with her to the front door…which also just so happened to be out of sight.
Matt nudged Caroline, a smile on his face. “How much do you want to bet he’s gonna do a cliche front porch kiss too?”
“Leave him alone, Matthew,” she sighed, shaking her head as she laughed. “Why do you always have to embarrass him?”
“Because it’s fun, out of love and a rightful dad passage.”
“Chew.” A soft sound came from Scarlett’s car seat, the both of them looking back towards her.
“Scar, sweetie are you awake?” Caroline asked, turning around.
“Hold on, I got this,” Matt said, unbuckling his seatbelt and opening the door, getting out of the car and then getting into the back, sitting in Ethan’s seat and sliding over next to Scarlett. “Well good morning princess.”
“Chew,” Scarlett smiled, stretching in her car seat as much as she could.
“Oh bless you,” Matt smiled, leaning down and kissing her forehead. “Hm, must be allergies, because she doesn’t have a fever.”
“No, daddy,” Scarlett giggled softly, pointing up at him. “Matt-chew.”
Matt’s face deadpanned as Caroline’s jaw dropped and then she started to laugh. “No sweetie, I’m not Matthew, I’m daddy. Dah-dee. Daddy.”
“Matt-chew.” She giggled again.
“Why are you doing this? Go back to sleep,” he whined, looking at Caroline. “Did Ethan do this? Is this normal? Why does she hate me?”
“She probably thinks it's funny, Matty,” Caroline sighed, nodding at him. “I mean, look how worked up you got.”
Matt looked back down at Scarlett, pouting. “Scar, you love daddy, right princess?”
“No daddy,” Scarlett said, shaking her head as he yawned and pointing at him again, smiling. “Matt-chew.”
He sighed, hanging his head down as he shook it. “You’ve forced me to take extreme measures princess,” he looked back up at her and pointed at him. “I’m daddy. Dad-dee. Dah-dee. Daddy. Not Matthew or Matt-chew.”
“Matt-chew.”
Matt sighed again, shaking his head. “Okay, no ducks.”
“Matthew!” Caroline gasped, eyes wide. “Don’t torture the poor girl.”
“Ducks, daddy!” Scarlett cried, whining slightly as she held both arms up. “Ducks, daddy please?”
Matt smiled, looking at Caroline with an ‘I told you so’ look before leaning down and kissing Scarlett. “Of course, princess. Daddy was just joking.”
He got out of the car and left the door barely closed before getting back into the driver's seat and closing his door. A few moments later, Ethan came walking down from the front porch and towards the car, walking back around towards the drivers side and getting into the backseat, closing the door. “Nonnie says hi.”
“Hi Ethie,” Scarlett said quietly as Ethan put his seatbelt on. “Ducks?”
“Oh yeah, ducks,” Ethan nodded, sinking into his seat. “Maybe tomorrow, Scar. I’m kinda tired.”
“Chew! Chew!” Scarlett whined, kicking in her carseat. “Ducks, chew!”
“Bless you,” Ethan said, leaning closer towards her car seat as Caroline started laughing. “What?”
“She’s not sneezing, Ethan,” Caroline said, looking at Matt. “It seems she’s discovered dad’s name is in fact, not daddy. But Matthew.”
“Matt-chew! Ethie watch ducks please!” Scarlett called out, holding her hippopotamus in the air.
“Ethan, just tell her yes and put an end to it,” Matt groaned, both hands on the steering wheel as he backed out of the driveway. “We’ll just give her a warm bottle when we get home.”
Ethan nodded, leaning against Scarlett’s car seat. “We’ll watch ducks when we get home, Scar.”
“Yay,” she smiled, snuggling down into her seat. “Ducks quack!”
“That’s right,” Ethan smiled, holding onto one of her hands. “The ducks quack.”
“So, Ethan,” Matt asked, looking at him through the rearview mirror. “How was your first date? Everything you hoped for? Did you score a second date?”
“It was a lot of fun,” he nodded, trying to hide his smile as they drove down the lit neighborhood streets. “Yeah, I asked if she’d want to go on another one before we go back to Calgary and she said yeah, she just has to ask permission and then we have to figure out when and what to do. Thanks for letting us go.”
“Of course, sweetie. We’re glad you had fun,” Caroline smiled, looking over her shoulder. “So I know we’re not supposed to ask because you get all embarrassed, but are you and Melody dating?”
“No, we’re not dating because we’re both not allowed to date until we’re 13,” Ethan replied, shaking his head as he smiled, this time not holding it back. “But she said if I ask her next summer, she'd say yes.”
Matt and Caroline shared a look as Ethan looked down at his phone, most likely replying to a text from Melody. Matt reached across the center console and held his hand out for Caroline to hold. And when she took it, she intertwined their fingers and he brought her hand to his, kissing her knuckles.
“Feeling a sense of deja vu?” He whispered, just for the two of them to hear.
Caroline snuck a look over her shoulder at Ethan, who was still holding onto one of Scarlett’s hands with his right hand, and holding his phone in his left. The light off of his phone screen lit up his face to show him still smiling as he was replying to a text. “Yeah, majorly.” She looked back at Matt, shrugging. “But I think I’m pretty confident in how it’ll end.”

Chapter 11: Thieves
Tumblr media
Your body stilled by your sudden illness left you lying in a hospital bed for a few days, gathering concern from the Bakugo family who had become familiar with you. Mitsuki insisted her family visited you, Katsuki included despite his incessant groaning. His mother stuck him with the flower shop clerk while she and Masaru looked through the rotating stand for a get-well-soon card. Katsuki shrugged off the clerk's recommendations for a simple bundle of colored roses and baby’s breath, then even a vase of golden-rayed lilies. Katsuki walked away from the clerk and browsed around at the pre-made refrigerated bouquets, that’s when a white-matte glass vase caught his attention. On a display of various glass, clay, and ceramic vases, this short round one caught his eye. He picked it up and gently brushed his thumb against the intricate vine details, he made his way over to the containers of individual flowers. The variety of roses seemed too casual, and lame, he thought.
Katsuki went around the display and that’s when the red camellias caught his attention, he slid a few out of the container. He wasn’t entirely sure if you knew the long history there was for the language of flowers, but he knew. Another one of those things his mother knew that he absorbed. For a moment he was worried you’d know what the flowers meant, meaning if he gave you the flowers with his name attached you’d know. I’ll take the card out, he thought, easy, then she’ll never know. He grabbed a few gardenias to contrast the red and brought the flowers up to the clerk.
“Add some basic flower filler and wrap it in a bow,” Katsuki said, “I don’t need you fucking it up either, make sure it looks great.”
“Katsuki,” His mother’s voice snapped at him. A sharp smack to the back of his neck made him jerk forward.
“I’m trying to make sure she doesn’t fuck up the vase for (y/n),” Katsuki said behind gritted teeth.
“He’s making an effort,” Masaru mumbled, “Interesting.”
“Say sorry to this poor woman,” Mitsuki gestured to the woman behind the counter nervously working on the bouquet. “Now.”
“I’m sorry,” Katsuki grumbled, “Shouldn’t have lost my temper.”
“No worries,” Her voice was timid and high-pitched, it reminded him of a timid mouse. More yet, the way she hunched her shoulders and took to his direction so easily reminded him of Midoriya Izuku. That dickhead is everywhere in my life, he thought.
The Bakugo family finished checking out with the clerk and made their way towards the hospital you were at. When the three of them arrived, the room had been cleared as it had gotten too warm to be in and be safe to observe. You had changed the temperature of the room in your sleep, making it nearly 50 C in the small room. Your parents and the doctors couldn’t stand being in there, but Katsuki was able to walk in without much discomfort. He took the card from his mother and braved the heat wave to leave the gift for you. Katsuki shut the door tight behind him and walked up to the other card on the nurse’s station across from your bed. He flicked it open to see the names Haru & Hanai.
“Tch,” He sucked his teeth as he debated throwing away the card, her parents would know if I did. “Fine.” Katsuki set the card on the table with the flowers next to it, he plucked a plastic trident from the vase that held the note his parents wrote.
Since the doctor told you to stay away from strenuous activities and not practice until your arms and hands healed, you decided it was time to pay the Horita house a visit. You and the siblings sat around the kitchen counter picking at a bowl of nuts and dried fruit their mother insisted you eat to help heal faster. Mrs. Horita has since left to run errands, something about a sale at the grocery store she frequented. Hanai poured a generous portion of juice into a few glasses and slid them over to you and Haru who was unusually close while he picked at the snacks. You could feel the warmth of his body near you, it was as if electricity bounced alongside your forearms.
You fidgeted with the edge of your sleeve, they were long despite the summer heat, but you wanted to cover the compression wraps on your arms. Was he unconsciously this close or is it on purpose, You thought, looking up at him from the side of your eyes. Hanai caught the more than friendly glance you threw and hummed at a brief thought. Despite being your best friend, you didn’t share everything with her in terms of secrets, and you definitely didn’t want to share this one. It had felt too dirty to tell, almost as dirty as the dream you had about Katsuki. Which she also didn’t know about. Hanai set her eyes on you, skimming through the bowl for dried strawberries.
“Did you eat them all?” You said accusingly to Haru, squinting up at him and cocking an eyebrow.
“Eat all of what?” He replied, the inside of his lip stained red from the berry.
“You did,” You shifted in your seat and pointed a finger at his face. “The evidence is on your lips.”
“My lips?” Haru held a hand over his mouth to hide the evidence, but also the blush that covered his cheeks.
“Why were you looking at his lips, weirdo?” Hanai was able to play it cool for now, but when she would be able to she’d drill you for information. There was something up between you and her brother and she intended to find out.
“Looking for evidence obviously,” You could feel the warmth gathering under your wraps and creeping up your neck, “H-he ate all the strawberries.”
“Can we stop talking about my lips?” Haru still had a hand over his mouth, “It’s making me feel insecure about them.”
“If you admit you stole all the strawberries!” You turned back to him with a sterner voice.
“I live here, I can eat all the strawberries I want,” Haru smacked his hand against his thigh and let out an exasperated sigh.
“Go get more,” You crossed your arms and turned to face away from him.
“Will that make us stop talking about these stupid strawberries?”
“Yes, yes it will,” You nodded slowly.
“Fine,” He groaned as he hopped off the stool. “Do we need anything else while I’m out?”
“Oh! Can you get some honey butter potato chips?” Hanai smiled sweetly at her older brother.
“You know you shouldn’t be eating that junk right?” He gave an amused smile.
“Yeah, yeah,” Hanai rolled her eyes and waved him off. “Now get us our snacks, boy.”
Haru chuckled and left the two of you in the kitchen alone. As he left the room Hanai ran around the counter and sat in his seat next to you, watching as she came around faster than you could process it.
“You have a crush on my brother,” Her tone was matter-of-fact, straight to business with no sugar coating. It left you feeling terrified and then confused, she didn’t sound mad which you always expected she would be.
“W-what?” Was the only word you could utter, the word barely left your lips before she continued and you watched in stunned silence.
“He was going on and on about what to get you while you were in the hospital,” She leaned back and started connecting the dots. “Before that, he had defended you when Bakugo was getting fiery at our birthday party. Then again when we all went to the festival, you were both sticking pretty close to each other.”
“Bakugo was being a prick, Haru would’ve done that for anyone had the same thing happened to them,” You shrugged her off, trying to avoid the conversation.
“You can’t pretend he doesn’t like you at least,” Hanai said, “He was trying to lean into you just a few minutes ago before you started flirting right in front of me.”
“That wasn’t flirting,” You waved her off. “Besides, you’re wrong, he doesn’t like me. I’m still in high school and am about to attend his rival school.”
“Yeah, it was,” Hanai said. “And star-crossed lovers is far more romantic than whatever weird vibe you two have now.”
“I’m sorry, what?” You shook your head and stilled to look at Hanai, “Star-Crossed Lovers? Romantic? I just have a crush on the guy, I don’t know about anything serious like that.”
“So you finally admitted it,” Hanai gave a twisted smile as her goal was completed; to get you to admit you liked her brother. “You like Haru.”
“Fine, yeah, so what?” You smacked your teeth in defeat. “I-I’m. It’s not like it can go anywhere.”
“Who said?”
“Me.” You exaggerated a gesture to yourself, “Not only is he your brother, but he’s older and going to a different university than I’m planning on attending.”
“I think you should ask him yourself-”
“Please.” You held up a hand to Hanai, “Please don’t push. I just, I don’t want to hurt him. I’d hurt you too if something happened, and I couldn’t forgive myself if I hurt you too.” “You really are a great friend, you know that?” Hanai said softly after a moment of never-ending silence. She gave a sad smile and took your hand into hers. “I would have given you my blessing if you told me sooner, I’d give it to you now if you still wanted-”
“No, that’s okay.” You patted the hands that covered your own, “I just want him to be a friend right now, who knows maybe we’ll still be friends years from now and it works out?” You shrugged “Who knows?”
Haru didnt mean to eavesdrop, but he had left his wallet on the living room table and was about to go in to get it when he heard his sister talk about star-crossed lovers. How long is long enough to let the tension in the room die down before entering? He thought as he leaned against the wall in the hallway.  Haru watched as the minute changed, deciding it was enough time to walk in. Pretend you got most of the way there before realizing you didn’t have your wallet. Haru opened the door quickly and strode confidently to the table by the couches, being overconfident in his steps made him trip over the edge of the rug his mother just laid out the week before. He stumbled towards the couch, bashing his knee against a side table and stumbling towards the ground with his palms out. The shock ran up his arm as he landed on the sensitive tendons and muscles. You and Hanai exclaimed your shock as he walked in, or stumbled in rather. Haru gritted his teeth and stood abruptly, the two of you on the back edge of the couch looking over at him.
“Are you okay?” You asked.
“Fine,” He couldn’t look you in the eyes, which you found strange. The redness flooding his cheeks told you he was embarrassed for having fallen over, definitely not because he heard the entirety of your conversation with his sister where you confessed that you had a crush on him. Haru snagged his wallet off the table and showed it to you, “Just almost forgot this, I’m off now.” Haru left in a hurry without saying goodbye.
You lay in your bed, gently tossing a tennis ball you frequently used to massage your back. Since resting for the last few weeks you started to feel tight, even stretching didn’t get rid of the stiff feeling in your arms and back. You sighed as you sat up and swung your legs over the edge of your bed, as you did the familiar ping of your phone's text tone sounded. You reached for your nightstand and flipped over the phone in your hand, the screen showing a message from Bakugo. You felt as if a string in your heart were plucked, goosebumps pricked over your arm.
Bakugo K.: It’s Thursday and you’re not at the gym. You can’t be that injured.
You: For ur information, not that it’s any of ur business, the doctor said I shouldn’t be straining my muscles for the next couple weeks.
Bakugo K: Yeah strain dumbass, not that you couldn’t exercise. Get your ass over here before your muscles atrophy.
You: 😐
It felt as if your heart and your mind were already up and running on a treadmill, you thought, Why would he reach out to me now? It’s been a month since I’ve been to the gym and he’s now noticing? Why did he notice?  You got up to find some shorts and a thin hoodie to wear to the gym, tossing a pair of socks on the bed after shutting the drawer shut. After getting dressed you rushed downstairs and passed your father, he was focused on scrubbing stuck-on food in the kitchen meaning he was otherwise preoccupied and wouldn’t see you slip out.
You pull on your running shoes without tying them and slip out the front door, closing it softly behind you. A simple bow fixed your shoes in seconds after you bent down. Your heart rate had calmed by now but you could still feel the tightness in your chest. As you passed the home nearest to the station you gently rubbed your upper chest to alleviate the tension. You scanned your train card and hopped aboard when the train you usually took arrived.
Bakugo K: Guess you’re chickening out from defying your doctors orders?
You: Attachment (1).jpg
You: Does this look like chickening out to you?
You had sent an image of your middle finger being held up to the train doors, a couple of dirty looks from older passengers didn’t stop you from getting a snap of it.
Bakugo K.: I stand corrected. I’ll be at free weights.
Of course, you’d be there, you thought. The trek from the station to the gym wasn’t long, but by the time you had checked in it was as if everyone decided they would rather be at home. It was easy to spot the ashy blond hair curling up and down as he hung on an angled bench, his knees wrapped around the other side of the bench. He noticed you approaching as he curled down, he brought himself back up and dismounted from the bench.
“Let me clean this up and we’ll stretch,” Bakugo pointed at the empty mats not too far away. You walked over and sat down to stretch your legs, laying them out in a wide V, and began reaching for your foot. The muscles below you began to stretch and burn as you grabbed and held your foot. After about 10 seconds you repeated the process for your other foot. Bakugo arrived and laid his shoes flat against yours, he stretched his open palm toward you and began to lean forward.
“You should be taking better care of your body after fucking it up like that,” Bakugo chided, “I don’t know what you did, but obviously it should happen again.”
“I was just melting some ice,” You sighed. He breathed an airy laugh as you took his hands and pulled back, after another brief 10 seconds he began tugging and pulling you towards him. You felt the heat rush to your face as you realized you were dangerously close to his crotch. This made you want to hop up immediately, you wiped sweaty hands on your pants and started stretching your arms. Katsuki joined your abrupt change in pace and followed you as you threw your elbow up and pushed back, then put your arm across your chest, both arms to the back, and finally little arm circles.
You worked off the blush, but anyone would be able to feel the tension between the two of you. After wrapping up stretches you hooked your thumb behind you in the direction of the treadmills. “Warm up jog?” You asked Bakugo, who nodded firmly. You led the way through the weaving machinery laid out across the gym. The swaying made you feel conscious about the fact that Bakugo might’ve been watching your ass the entire time.
To your surprise when you turned to see Bakugo had his eyes up and forwards, his eyes were there the whole time as far as you knew it. You punched in your desired speed and incline as you hopped on the treadmill, Bakugo doing the same at the machine next to you. After about 10 minutes of light jogging, you heard the soft distinctive ringtone of your parents calling you on your phone. You pulled it out just as the call dropped, showing a wall of notifications from worried parents. You bit the inside of your lip and chewed as the realization of the consequences of your actions came to fruition. You stuffed the phone back in your pockets and stopped the treadmill.
“Where you going? We still have 20 minutes,” Bakugo called out, he slowed his treadmill to a complete stop and got off with you.
“Parents are calling,” You said, “I didn’t tell them I was heading out, they’d discourage me just going to Hanai’s but exercising in the gym is nearly forbidden up until next month.”
Bakugo could feel his heart race against his chest, he had originally only called you over to actually make sure you were okay. The tingle in his heart and skin made him feel otherwise, misguided by the need to stretch and exercise. Ever since he brought the flowers into the hospital he’s wanted you to know it was him and not Haru. Anything but that guy. He wanted to kiss you so passionately and so tenderly, he wanted to hold you close and heal your arms. Then there was the side of him that wanted to push the sappy love stuff aside and just do what he could to become #1 in school. The contradictions in his mind set him ablaze, his focus was on one thing and one thing only. His lips rapidly approached you and brushed your lips softly. For how quickly he came down on you, you expected to be head-butted but he was soft and gentle at first. Out of curiosity, you kiss back, feeling his lips pressed strongly against yours.
The guilt of kissing a boy in a public area set in first, making you retract, then came the guilt of pulling away so fast. Before either of you could speak, you just stared into each other’s eyes. Bakugo’s hands hovered over your head, you hadn’t even realized he held you into him.
“I-I gotta go,” You backed away slowly at first and turned to make quick long strides toward the front door.

(—) ★ spotted!! YASMIN LEVY on the cover of this week’s most recent tabloid! many say that the 23 year old looks like ALISHA BOE, but i don’t really see it. while  the REALITY TV STAR is known for being SCRAPPY my inside sources say that they have a tendency to be SELF-DESTRUCTIVE i swear, every time i think of them, i hear the song HALLUCINGENICS by MATT MAESON
trigger warnings ahead: abduction tw, fake death tw, kidnapping tw, captivity tw, drug abuse tw
what with my bloodshot eyes and my shaky hands
basics
Name: Yasmin Levy Age: Twenty-Three DOB: November 14th Gender: Cisfemale Sexuality: Bisexual Occupation: Reality TV Star, featured on her family’s show and the first season of THTH Hometown: New York, New York
'cause i carried on like the wayward son
biography
Yasmin Levy was the youngest of the four Levy children and it showed through her young life. She was often the devil on her siblings shoulders,, knowing that she could get away with just about anything when it came to their father, Rhys. Her partner in crime often her sister, Gaia, who was barely a year older than her. Yasmin always loved to get herself into trouble and then pull out the doe eyes to get out of it.
This continued through her teen years and early adult life. She had a way of finding the most chaos that she could within life. She was often photographed out in clubs, strung out and hanging off the arms of anyone deemed worthy enough by her.
Her claim to fame outside of the Levy name was appearing on the first season of Too Hot to Handle where she was one that was flippant with the rules but ended up making a genuine connection by the end of it all.
After the first season of the show came out, Yasmin took to becoming famous on Instagram as a model and continued her partying ways, not thinking she needed to anything else. Why would she find an actual career when she could make one off of being attractive and living life to the fullest.
Her attitude with life was one of the first times that Rhys showed his true colors to her, constantly picking fights with the youngest Levy captured on camera and edited to make the girl look out of control.
One of these fights became the catalyst for her disappearance, Yasmin sparking an argument with her sister and ended with an explosion of anger and screaming, Yasmin escaping into the night and never to be seen again.
What was not caught on camera was Rhys Levy himself grabbing her walking down the street, the drugs in her system having left her completely incapacitated. That was the last time that Yasmin had seen the outside world for eight agonizing months.
Rhys had taken her to an estate purchased in a fake name in upstate New York, somewhere boarded up and with a hidden room in the furnished basement. It was there that she spent all of her time, unknowing to her that the rest of the world was mourning her light in their life.
It wasn’t until a few days ago that Yasmin was able to escape. Some teenagers had broken into the home, assuming it was abandoned and found the secret room in the basement. They recognized who had been there the entire time and that she was in fact alive, unlike what the world thought. Her ‘caretaker’ that had been hired fresh out of prison had been arrested for the charge of kidnapping, Rhys so far deemed innocent as Yasmin hasn’t been able to open up about her time in the basement yet.
and now through and through i have come undone
things to note
Yasmin has spent the last eight months being held captive by their father, him wanting the drama and clout her disappearance would continue to bring.
Unknown to the world, Rhys was planning on getting rid of Yasmin as her escaping and returning to the world seemed like it would never work out the way he had planned ( which originally was to have her miraculously come back from the dead ).
The moment that Yasmin was taken to the police station she had pleaded to call her sister and not her parents, even if she couldn’t remember why that was so frightening to her.
She was whisked to Gaia’s in LA, with the police taking all her statements and her court ordered therapy session being transferred to an office in LA.
While she works through what happened to her, Yasmin is trying to find coping mechanisms to make it easier.

Angel- Chapter 7
Jenevieve, Foggy and Matt walk into Josie’s, grabbing a table. The older woman walks over and glares at the two men before her. “Sooo you two decided to kidnap another woman and bring her here. What happened to “Blondie”? She come to her senses finally?” Jenevieve laughs a little. “Josie! Always a pleasure. And this lovely woman joining us tonight is our new intern, Jenevieve.” Foggy says with a proud look on his face. Jeni blushes a little at his words. Josie looks over at the woman. “Run while you still have a chance, kid.” Jeni laughs again, a little harder this time. “I’ve been trying, but unfortunately they keep reeling me back in.” She shakes her head trying to hide the smirk on her face. “Hmm, I like this one. What can I get for you boys?” “The usual is fine. Two beers and whatever our lovely friend would like. Drinks are on me tonight. And you can’t get out of this either, Jenevieve.” Jenevieve sighs. “Fine Matt. I’ll just have a beer as well.” Josie nods, walking away. “I’ll know if you put a 20 in my pocket again, so don't even try it.” “~Gasp~ How’d you know?! I literally put it in your suit jacket’s pocket?! I thought I was being clever.” She puts her hands on her face laughing. Matt smiles at the sound. “She’s actually having fun.” It’s moments like these where he realizes Jenevieve just needs a little push out of her shell sometimes.
Josie brings their drinks around. They thank her as Foggy decides to start up a conversation. “So Jenevieve, we’ve known you for some time now and we still don’t know enough about you. Care to share with us.” Jenevieve sips her drink. “Well my life is kinda sad. I didn’t think anyone would want to hear about it.” Matt and Foggy frown. Before either of them stop her, she starts to speak again. “I grew up in a pretty rich family. My dad is an investor of sorts and my mom used to do real estate, but now she mostly does design. You’d think that we were a perfect family and all, but when I turned 7, things changed.” She takes a deep breath. “ I developed a uh… type of sensitivity, as my grandmother would say.” Matt’s ears perk up. “It was like no matter what I ate or touched, I felt uncomfortable. It was the worst. And the more It happened, the more I became isolated from everything. I didn’t wanna be me anymore. I didn’t speak, I couldn’t eat… It was like I couldn’t even move or live anymore. My parents hated it too. They never could understand what was wrong with me. I’ve been through so many different tests and medications and all kinds of bullshit, but nothing ever worked. When I turned 12, I finally met somebody who understood and specialized in those kinds of studies. His name is Charles. He took me to his school and showed me how to live again. Of course, it took a while, but I was able to learn and be taken care of. I felt human for the first time in my life. 5 years and I was finally normal again. Granted, some of the kids there were definitely more skilled than me and I was constantly told I was useless, but still I felt… normal.” She breathes again, taking a sip of her drink. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to ruin the night.” She puts her head down trying to calm herself, realizing the look on the men’s faces. Matt grabs her hand under the table. “You didn’t ruin the night. If anything, we’re happy you told us. It takes a lot of courage to come out and talk about the things that happened to you. Your trauma doesn’t define you and the fact that you decided to keep going is a sign of redirection.” She nods with a small smile, wiping underneath her glasses. “It really does mean a lot that you guys are so supportive. I’ve had many people ignore it or walk out on me after I told them my problems.” “Of course. We’ll always be here for you. Even if you decide to work somewhere else or move to Australia or something.” Foggy puts his hand on her shoulder. “Well as sad as this was, I think we need a round of shots now. We were supposed to be here celebrating, not having a therapy session.” Jeni laughs. “Well in that case. I’ll have Josie bring us her finest, cheapest alcohol from the back.” Foggy gets up leaving Matt and Jenevieve at the table.
“Matt? I really do appreciate you guys for being here for me. I really wanna do something nice for you guys.” Matt puts his other hand up. “That’s not neces-” “I want to! Seriously! I have never- never had anyone be so sweet, calm and understanding towards me before.” She squeezes his hand a little. His hands are soft as she focuses on his calm demeanor. She can tell he actually means what he’s saying and has only the purest intentions. A flash of red crosses her vision as she looks through him. “What in the world was that?” She whispers to herself. “Is something wrong?” His face scrunches a little at the sound of her heartbeat picking up a little. “Huh? Oh, no.  I thought I saw something weird.” Her heartbeat calms back down as she focuses back on him. Before Matt could react to it again, Foggy came back slamming three shot glasses on the table. “Time for SHOTS!”
The night continued as the three drank, laughed, and talked about everything and nothing. Jeni got up to use the restroom, leaving the boys to their own devices. “So what do you think about her now?” Foggy starts. “What do you mean?” “You know exactly what I mean. She seems pretty smitten with you. Are you feeling the same way? You already let her meet your “little friend”. And she wants to know more, so what are you gonna do? Would you tell her about it?” Matt sighs a little. He hadn’t thought about what it would be like if Jenevieve had actually found out his secret. “Uh. I don’t know Fog. I don’t want to scare her off. What if she doesn’t trust me after? I don’t know what I would do if I added more to her trauma. She deserves better than that.” He pinches the bridge of his nose. “Well, she already fancies “him”. What makes you think she won’t trust you? She’s the most understanding person and I don't think she would ever hate you. She doesn’t hate a single thing in this world. Just last week she looked like she was gonna cry when about to kill a spider. She literally said “What if it’s the next Spiderman or something?” Does that sound like someone who would hurt another soul? No.” Matt thought about it a little more. I mean sure his past relationships weren’t the best, but Jenevieve was different. She understood him in a way he didn’t even have to explain. It was like she could see into him. He never knew how she did it, but it always made his feelings strong towards her.
When Jenevieve came back to the table, their conversation ended. She hadn’t thought much about it, shaking it off in her mind. “They’re men, who knows what they were talking about.” “Hey, I think it’s time for me to head home. I’m getting a little tired and I have a fitting for my dress tomorrow.” She yawns into her hand. “Let me walk you home. How far are you?” Matt offers. “I live all the way in Manhattan, Matt. I couldn’t possibly ask you to walk with me all the way across town.” “Please. I’d rather walk you almost a whole hour and know you’re safe than have you be all alone at night.” Her heart swells. “Why must he be so sweet?” “Okay, fine. But I want you to stay with me for a little bit- Just so I know that you’re sober. Not anything else. Wow that sounds weird. Sorry.” They laugh together. Foggy watches them, “Well, I’ll catch you guys later. I’m just gonna take a cab to Marci’s. Get home safe and have a good night you two.” He gives them a look. Matt and Jeni blush looking at each other. “Uh you too, Foggy.”
