heeseung scrambles as he reaches over to grab your hands when he slightly slips on the ice. you grab him immediately, stalling as you give him a few seconds to regain his balance. “this is so scary,” he murmurs. “i don’t know how you do this all the time.”

“it gets easier the more you do it,” you chuckle. “come on, one more lap.”

you can nearly see heeseung’s thought process in his head before he relents with a small sigh. “it’s impossible to say no to you,” he chuckles as he shakes his head. “one more.”

you smile, reaching over to take his hands into yours once again. you slowly guide him forwards along with you as you circle back around the rink with heeseung in tow. “you’re great at this,” you murmur as he slowly pushes forwards to glide across the ice again.

“yeah?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.

“yeah. you’re a natural, hee.”

“high praise from the y/n l/n,” he teases. you laugh as he wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you into a hug. you lean away just enough to pull him into a sweet kiss. “thank you for teaching me how to skate.”

“thank you for being my student,” you smile.

jay leans against the edge of the wall of the rink, watching you spin around the ice with a soft smile. he rubs his gloved hands together in an attempt to warm himself against the cool winter chill that blows past.

jay dramatically applauds for you when you land another axel with the familiar sound of metal blades scraping against the ice below your feet. “go y/n!” he cheers. “good job!”

you startle slightly at the sudden noise, staring at him with wide eyes for a second before you immediately rush over to him. “jay!” you lean over, wrapping your arms around him from across the half-wall to pull him into a tight hug. jay chuckles as he pulls back just enough to tilt your face and pull you into a sweet kiss. “what are you doing here?”

“i thought i would come watch my boyfriend practice before his big competition tomorrow seeing as you’re always there for my concerts, it’s only right that i show up for yours too.”

you stare into his eyes for a few seconds before pulling him down into yet another kiss. you wrap your arms around jay’s neck as his ghost against your hips, keeping you close to him. you’re both panting by the time you pull away, staring at each other with soft smiles. “i missed you so much.”

“i missed you too,” he chuckles.

jake shivers as he leans down to untie the laces on his skates. he waves you off when you glance over at him with a concerned glance before standing up on shaky knees. you chuckle as he slowly walks over, gripping onto the nearby wall. “what?”

“you looked like bambi,” you chuckle, slipping past him with skates in hand. “we were on ice and everything.”

“shut up,” jake murmurs, slipping on his sneakers as he follows after you. you reach over to grab his hand into yours with a soft smile. jake intertwines your fingers together after he returns his skates to the counter.

you shiver slightly at the sudden cold burst of air that hits as soon as you push the door open to exit the rink. jake momentarily lets go of your hand as he slips his jacket off. “what are you doing?”

“you’re cold,” he replies, wrapping it around your shoulders despite your protests. your half-hearted attempts to reject it are ignored as jake guides your arms into the sleeves.

“jake, this isn’t necessary-” he ignores your complaints with a small smile, instead tying his scarf around your neck.

once his jacket has been wrapped around you and zipped up, jake leans forwards to pull you into a sweet kiss. “so, hot chocolate?”

sunghoon laughs as you reach over to grab his hand, easily gliding around the rink with him. your smile brightens when you glance over at him. his face flushes a light pink at the simple gesture, though neither of you comment on it.

you circle around the rink once again before sliding to a stop against a nearby wall. you lean over the edge to grab a water bottle from your bag, taking a sip. sunghoon sighs in content from beside you. “man, i’ve missed this.”

“yeah?” you chuckle. “how long has it been? you know, since you skated regularly.”

“a few years. idol work keeps me pretty busy.”

“i can imagine,” you hum. you reach down to set your water bottle down, shifting to face sunghoon.

a comfortable silence falls over the rink. you find yourself staring at sunghoon with a soft smile. sunghoon’s faux confidence falters under your gaze, making you chuckle. you reach over to cup his cheek with your hand, stroking your thumb against the skin. “sunghoon,” you whisper. your eyes flick from looking into his down to his lips. “can i kiss you?”

“yeah,” he murmurs after a few seconds of silence. “i’d like that.”

sunoo desperately clutches onto you as you continue guiding him around the rink with you. you laugh at the panicked look on his face as he playfully glares at you. “i almost died-”

“you aren’t gonna die, you almost fell.”

“died,” he continues. “and you’re laughing at me!”

you dramatically sigh, skating around him until you’re face-to-face again. you reach over to gingerly rest your hands on his hips before pulling him close to you. “kim sunwoo, i am deeply sorry for laughing at you when you slipped on ice.”

“thank you,” he replies, gladly playing along with your dramatics.

“even though i caught you before you actually fell.”

“hey!” you skate away before sunoo can playfully swat at you once again. your laughter mixes with his as you twist around, wrapping your arms around his waist. you lean your head against his shoulder, keeping him in a tight back hug.

“i love you,” you murmur, leaning over to press a kiss against his cheek. “and i know ice skating is scary because it’s ice and it’s slippery, but i’ll always be here to catch you. every single time.”

sunoo grabs your hand as he turns around to face you, pulling you into a kiss. “i love you too,” he hums.

a gentle dusting of snow falls on you from above as you make your way to the empty rink. fairy lights hang from the surrounding trees, just barely illuminating the area around you. the ice is scratched and slippery from hours of use before you arrived, though neither of you mind as you step out.

jungwon clutches your hand tightly as you step out of the slight dip at the entrance. “careful,” you murmur as you slowly guide him further onto the rink.

“sorry,” he replies. “i’m a little nervous.”

“don’t be.” your hands ghost against his hips as you guide him. jungwon’s face flushes a deep red as your hands move to grab his. you intertwine your fingers together, admiring the way your boyfriend looks under the gentle glow of the lights surrounding you.

your plans to teach jungwon how to skate disappear with you standing in the middle of the rink together. his flushed cheeks are just barely visible in the dim lighting. snowflakes occasionally land in his hair or sting against his eyelashes.

jungwon furrows his eyebrows in confusion as he looks at you. “what is it?”

“you’re gorgeous,” you smile.

“aish,” jungwon playfully pushes you away. you simply chuckle, circling back around to stand in front of him. you both smile as you pull him into a sweet kiss.

niki grips your hands as he stands on shaky knees. you chuckle as he nervously drags the blades against the ice. “don’t laugh at me,” he playfully complains.

“i’m not laughing,” you reply. “i’m helping you. come on.” you slowly skate back so there’s more space between you. niki intertwines your fingers together as you scrape your blades against the ice to stop. “okay, to move you push the top part down into the ice and then glide with your other foot.”

he nervously looks down at his feet again before he slowly angles the tip of the blade downward and shoves himself forwards. you squeeze his hands as he slowly glides forwards towards you. “like that?”

“exactly like that!” he smiles as you wrap your arms around his waist, pulling him closer. “that was great. do you want to try again?”

niki pulls you into a quick kiss before he nods. you excitedly skate backwards once again, still holding his hands. you cock your head when he doesn’t move, simply staring at you with a small smile and a lovestruck expression. “what?”

“nothing,” he chuckles, shaking his head. “you’re really handsome when you smile.”

you roll your eyes to hide how flustered you are, pulling him towards you once again. “i could say the same thing about you.”

The Akhekh [Egyptian mythology]

Frequently called a griffon or a dragon in modern times, Akhekh is a creature with 4 legs and 2 additional wings. It has the body of an antelope with the head of a hawk. Three cobras sit on its head at all times, though I noticed modern illustrations often tend to forgo many of these details in favour of a more traditional griffon or dragon design.

In Egyptian mythology, Akhekh is heavily associated with the god Set. This creature is also connected with darkness and evil in particular, so it seems to have a decidedly negative connotation. Since the name ‘Akhekh’ is often translated directly to ‘griffon’, I take this to mean Akhekh was the name of a species with multiple individuals rather than a singular creature, though I am not entirely certain about this.

In the New Kingdom of Egypt (16th – 11th century BC), the Akhekh was said to make a loud, booming roar. It was also incredibly fast. Also note that during this period, the Akhekh had the head of a vulture rather than an eagle.

The Akhekh is not to be confused with Akhekhi, a being from ancient Egyptian mythology who guards the twelfth gate of the underworld alongside Pai.

ok, this post was one i wasnt gonna make originally because i felt it was like......WAY too niche to be normal. however, most of you guys are more insane (positive) (this is good) than me anyway so i do not care!!!!!! this isnt in order of the toon it is in so um. sorry !!!!!

STRONG BAD SMILING

not very odd or uncommon so im just mentioning it here real quick. his smile means everything to me but that is much besides the point. this image isnt from like, the first toon he smiles in but it was the most normal example so i used it. i like it when he does this. but again, increasingly normal.

strong bad's actually a lot more expressive in recent toons. atleast in my opinion. they arent as horrifically terrifying to me but they make me happy all the same. homestar's kinda undergone a similar thing too, but he was always decently expressive so i will not make a post about that. yet.

The confirm timeline makes everything and makes Demeter a lot more sympathetic to see her daughter do something so stupid

oh man seeing the confirmed timeline back when it was still being updated thru S2 was when the cracks started to form for me because I couldn't fucking BELIEVE the first season took place over the course of a week. It's weird because on the one hand it tries to imply that time has passed (like with Persephone's grades slipping) but on the other it keeps writing the story event to event, often consequentially (as in, Event C happens because of Event B, which happens because of Event A) so like, the conclusions these timelines come to are pretty simple in and of themselves - these events often all happen in one day and couldn't have been separated by weeks.

For example, on March 15th, Persephone reveals to Eros that she was SA'd. She stays the night at his place so she can have a safe space away from home where Apollo often comes and goes. That's something that would reasonably lead into March 16th's events which are also all pretty condensed because it's when Minthe slaps Hades which happens the day after she stands him up. And then Hades ends up at Hera's place where Persephone also shows up for inexplicably no reason. Of course, Hades and Persephone both aren't home at this time, so it makes for the perfect opportunity for Thanatos to break in to both her room and Hades' office. And that turns into the Hades and Apollo argument after Hades drives Persephone home.

So there's no way the order of these events are being 'mistaken' for a shorter timeline, because every event interlinks so seamlessly. It undoubtedly works for people reading week to week when there's real life time passing in between each episode to give you the illusion of time passing in the comic, but when you really take these events and lay them out end to end in their most sensible order, it's ridiculous how little time has passed. It's why I laugh when people tell me LO is "better binged", like no it fucking isn't, it's worse because when you binge it, you realize just how little time is passing and how much Rachel covers every minute detail of every hour of every day.

A more recent example? Hades and Persephone are already engaged 4 days after Persephone said she wanted to take it slow.

Don't believe me? Hold on tight, because this is about to get dicey.

Day 1 (Ep 207-208) - Hades and Persephone are tended to by their friends/relatives following the battle with Kronos. Persephone has her punishment lifted by Zeus, Zeus and Hades make up. P x H have their "taking it slow" conversation and decide to be boyfriend/girlfriend. As Persephone curls up in bed with Hades, she feels like she's "forgetting something" (i.e. Demeter).

Day 2 (Ep 209-214) - Hades wakes up from a nightmare, which includes hints as to what happened to Thanatos while Hades was being possessed, leading into the start of the next day with Persephone comforting him. They get to work "fixing" the Underworld by doing a Steven Universe dance. During this time, Demeter is looking for her daughter and finds out from Artemis she's in the Underworld, so she decides to go find her. We get the flashback sequence showing Demeter's backstory with Hades and why she was never made Queen of the Mortal Realm. Meanwhile, Hades and Persephone are checking out "Elysium" (which just seems to be a few trees and a river in the Underworld lmao) and start splashing around in the river. Demeter intervenes right as they're returning from their outdoor excursion, still dripping with river water. Persephone and Demeter reunite while Hades talks to the dog but it's a short-lived conversation as she refuses to go back to the Mortal Realm with Demeter claiming she "seems to still be in love". Persephone sends Demeter on her way, who's spotted by Minthe and a few other nymphs. Minthe claims she "has something to do" and walks off, with the heavy implication she's about to approach Demeter. This leads into the Minthe flashbacks depicting her backstory with her own mother and showing what happened to her after her plant curse was lifted. The day she tried to get back to the Underworld, she finds a lost child who she returns to nymph preschool, where Minthe ends up getting a job as a substitute. Right after that, she's summoned to a conversation with Persephone, who reveals to her that the realms are cut off and she's been a plant for three years. Back in present day, Minthe ends up in a conversation with Thetis (who's now married and the mother of a baby Achilles) where she effectively tells Thetis to fuck off. Minthe continues forward, making it to her real destination, which is her job teaching nymphs life skills like making a resume (effectively making the Demeter cliffhanger pointless clickbait). Day 3 (Ep 214-223) - Hades is preparing breakfast (literally a single donut) for Persephone, during which he thinks back to the conversation with Demeter where Demeter asked Hades how he could let her make the deal with Erebus (this goes nowhere). Hades insists Persephone should take the day off. Hades meets with Hecate, revealing to her that he's ashamed his realm is in such bad shape for Persephone. Hades wants to speak with Kronos, but Hecate convinces Hades it would be a bad idea to go down today. Instead, they opt to speculate on how he could have returned, and decide the only person who would know what happened is Hypnos.

Thus begins the most pointless fetch quest in all of LO *deep breath*:

Hades and Hecate have no idea where to find Hypnos, so they decide to go seek his brother Thanatos for help, but Thanatos doesn't want to talk to Hades because Hades treated him like shit and fired him; despite this, Daphne lets Hades in anyways where Hades and Than have a shitty 'make up' conversation that solves nothing between them; we also get flashbacks of what happened between Than and Daphne during the time skip; Hades finally asks Than where they can find Hypnos; they pick up boba tea for Daphne and then drop her off; Thanatos guides Hades to Hypnos' location which was under his nose the entire time, in the HR department of the Underworld Corp; they find Hypnos, who reveals how Kronos was able to take advantage of his powers; Hecate takes Morpheus under her wing as an apprentice of sorts; Hypnos reveals that Kronos has taken a child captive; despite saying they weren't going to talk to Kronos today, Hades and Hecate head down to Tartarus to speak to Kronos, but they can't access it because Kronos has the doors locked and won't open them for anyone but "his Golden Traitor" (implying Hera). This whole fetch quest ends up being useless btw when we find out later that Kronos has been able to talk to Hera the entire time.

*heavy breathing*

Anyways, while all this is going on, Persephone is in Olympus, enjoying her day off, when she's intercepted by Daphne (remember, she had been dropped off by Hades/Hecate/Than!) who's met up with Eros; Persephone reveals she and Hades haven't "done it yet", Eros reveals that he's married with kids now and has to run off to tend to them; Daphne and Persephone leave the restaurant, where they spot a presidential campaign ad featuring Apollo; Persephone and Daphne go to the bank where Persephone runs into her old classmate Tori and acts like a huge Karen to him just because he gossiped about her once 10 years ago; she finds out through Tori (as he works at the bank) that she has an account that's accrued a shitload of money which allows her to buy an apartment that same day, we KNOW it's the same day because it cuts to Hades who's thinking about everything that went down and wondering how he's gonna tell Persephone; he meets her at her new apartment where they proceed to have Chinese (???) takeout. Hades talks a little about how things went but doesn't go into detail, he doesn't tell her about the child deity. We suddenly transition to Persephone at Hades' house where Persphone's packing up her things to take to her new apartment. They end up having the sex conversation, spurred on by Eros/Daphne questioning her about it earlier. Ares shows up that night drunk and looking for Persephone. Hades goes out to comfort him while Persephone stays behind in the bedroom. It's revealed that Aphrodite has left Ares. Hades finds Persephone in his personal theater, where they proceed to watch a movie from 1920's post-WWI Germany and it's heavily implied they have sex during this (*they do not). Ares texts Aphrodite, who's in bed with Hephaestus.

Day 4 (Ep 224 onwards) - The next day starts with Aphrodite/Ares/Heph flashbacks revealing why Aphrodite left Ares, and with a "first meeting" between Heph and Aphrodite. Back to present day, Aphrodite blocks Ares on her phone and meets up with Psyche for coffee. Persephone and Hades are getting ready to leave for work when they find a note left by Ares, which we later find out is urging Persephone to meet up with him to talk about her fertility goddess powers. More Heph / Aphrodite flashbacks. Hades finally mentions the child deity to Persephone. Hera shows up at Hades' work where they proceed to info dump the Kronos/child deity stuff on her. Persephone gets jealous of Hades calling her 'Bunny'. Hera wants to plan Persephone's coronation. Persephone decides she'll be the one to talk to Demeter about her coronation. Hera leaves, this is where it's revealed Kronos has been living in her head for an undisclosed amount of time. Psyche and Hephaestus speak in private, where Psyche reveals she's stolen a pen drive off Apollo for Hephaestus to investigate. Kassandra is revealed. We get some Psyche flashbacks showing how Psyche became a goddess for the purpose of spying on Apollo on Zeus' behalf. Heph gets Psyche to track down Kassandra through Eros/Aphrodite. Cut back to Hades, who's on his own (while Persephone is spending her first night at her new apartment) and is trying to create an engagement ring for Persephone, while reminiscing on their conversation the night before about "the hegemony of virginity". He's summoned by Persephone, who immediately bursts into tears about how upset she is that she got jealous of Hera (not that Hades called her Bunny lmao). This happens in the same day because Persephone says "I got jealous today." More TherapySpeak where Hades makes it all about him. Persephone reveals she's going to meet up with Ares, so Hades decides to accompany her in moth form. Persephone goes to the Mortal Realm to meet with Ares where, according to him, it's "after evening" (w/e the fuck that is, it doesn't look like night time though). This meeting is also counting as her obligatory "date" with him. Ares shows her an old temple with statues in it depicting the fertility goddesses. Ares is barely able to give her any extra info on it that Hades couldn't have already told her. Persephone touches the depiction of Metis and is immediately Avatar'd into the nth dimension where she meets with Metis. Metis tells her about Gaia and how fertility goddesses are a part of the Ouranos lineage. Persephone wakes up from her Avatar state (it's actually visibly night at this point) to find Ares has ditched her. Hades reminds her that she had a visit with Demeter already planned and shouldn't forget it. Demeter sabotages their visit with the whole TGOEM purity club intervention, during which she cages Hades. Hestia lets Hades free, and he immediately proposes to Persephone. Hades takes her away to the Underworld.

WOW that was a lot. But my god, I do not blame the creators of that timeline in the slightest for calling it quits (from the looks of it, they haven't updated it since Season 2). It's absolutely insane how crazy the timeline is. I'm almost half-tempted to finish what these folks started, especially if they stopped due to some kind of divine intervention from Rachel (tinfoil hat theory, but it wouldn't be the first time Rachel's sabotaged a fan project).

This only covers the Free episodes of course, but SPOILER Hades and Persephone end up having to get married literally the next day due to an embargo Demeter's placed on them under the rules of xenia (according to Zeus).

So. Yeah. They've been officially together for 4 days and got married on the 5th.

Peak romance fiction, y'all. They totally got back at the haters who said they were rushing shit.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN

At 6:15 this evening, Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen, Federal Reserve Board Chair Jerome H. Powell, and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Chairman Martin J. Gruenberg announced that Secretary Yellen has signed off on measures to enable the FDIC to fully protect everyone who had money in Silicon Valley Bank, Santa Clara, California, and Signature Bank, New York. They will have access to all of their money starting Monday, March 13. None of the losses associated with this resolution, the statement said, “will be borne by the taxpayer.”

But, it continued, “Shareholders and certain unsecured debtholders will not be protected. Senior management has also been removed. Any losses to the Deposit Insurance Fund to support uninsured depositors will be recovered by a special assessment on banks, as required by law.”

The statement ended by assuring Americans that “the U.S. banking system remains resilient and on a solid foundation, in large part due to reforms that were made after the financial crisis that ensured better safeguards for the banking industry. Those reforms combined with today's actions demonstrate our commitment to take the necessary steps to ensure that depositors' savings remain safe.”

It’s been quite a weekend.

On Friday, Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) failed in the largest bank failure since 2008. At the end of December 2022, SVB appears to have had about $209 billion in total assets and about $175 billion in deposits. This made SVB the sixteenth largest bank in the U.S., big in its sector but small compared with the more than $3 trillion JPMorgan Chase. This is the first bank failure of the Biden presidency (while Donald Trump Jr. tweeted that he had not heard of any bank failures during his father’s presidency, there were sixteen, eight of which happened before the pandemic). In fact, generally, a few banks fail every year; it is an oddity that none failed in 2021 or 2022.

The failure of SVB created shock waves for three reasons. First, SVB was the major bank for technology start-ups, so it involved much of a single sector of the economy. Second, only about $8 billion of the $173 billion worth of deposits in SVB were less than the $250,000 that the FDIC insures, meaning that the companies who had made those deposits might not get their money back quickly and thus might not be able to make payrolls, sparking a larger crisis. Third, there was concern that the problems that plagued SVB might cause other banks to fail, as well.

What seems to have happened, though, appears to be specific to SVB. Bloomberg’s Matt Levine explained it most clearly:

As the bank for start-ups, which have a lot of cash from investors and the initial public offering of stock, SVB had lots of deposits. But start-up companies don’t need much in the way of loans because they’ve just gotten so much cash and they don’t yet have fixed assets. So, rather than balancing deposits with loans that fluctuate with interest rates and thus keep a bank on an even keel, SVB’s directors took a gamble that the Federal Reserve would not raise interest rates. They invested in long-term Treasury bonds that paid better interest rates than short-term securities. But when, in fact, interest rates went up, the value of those long-term bonds sank.

For most banks, higher interest rates are good news because they can charge more for loans. But for SVB, they hurt.

Then, because SVB concentrated on start-ups, they had another problem. Start-ups are also hurt by rising interest rates because they tend to promise to deliver returns in the long term, which is fine so long as interest rates stay steadily low, as they have been now for years. But as interest rates go up, investors tend to like faster returns than most start-ups can deliver. They take their money to places that are going to see returns sooner. For SVB, that meant their depositors began to need some of that money they had dumped into the bank and started to withdraw their deposits.

So SVB sold securities at a loss to cover those deposits. Other investors panicked as they saw SVB selling at a loss and losing deposits, and they, too, started yanking their money out of the bank, collapsing it. Banks that have a more diverse client base are less likely to lose everyone all at once.

The FDIC took control of the bank on Friday. On Sunday, regulators also shut down Signature Bank, based in New York, which was a major bank for the cryptocurrency industry. Another crypto-friendly bank, Silvergate, failed last week.

Congress created the FDIC under the Banking Act of 1933 to restore trust in the American banking system after more than a third of U.S. banks failed after the Great Crash of 1929, sparking runs on banks as depositors rushed to take out their money whenever rumors suggested a bank was in trouble, thus causing more failures. The FDIC is an independent agency that insures deposits, examines and supervises banks to make sure they’re healthy, and manages the fallout when they’re not. The FDIC is backed by the full faith and credit of the government, but it is not funded by the government. Member banks pay insurance dues to cover bank failures, and when that isn’t enough money, the FDIC can borrow from the federal government or issue debt.

Over the weekend, the crisis at SVB became a larger argument over the role of government in the protection of the economy. Tech leaders took to social media to insist that the government must cover all the deposits in the failed bank, not just the ones covered under FDIC. They warned that the companies whose deposits were uninsured would fail, taking down the rest of the economy with them.

Others noted that the very men who were arguing the government should protect all the depositors’ money, not just that protected under the FDIC, have been vocal in opposing both government regulation of their industry and government relief for student loan debt, suggesting that they hate government action…except for themselves. They also pointed out that in 2018, under Trump, Congress weakened government regulations for banks like SVB and that SVB’s president had been a leading advocate for weakening those regulations. Had those regulations been in place, they argue, SVB would have remained solvent.

It appears that Yellen, Powell, and Gruenberg, in consultation with the president (as required), concluded that the collapse of SVB and Signature Bank was a systemic threat to the nation’s whole financial system, or perhaps they concluded that the panic over that collapse—which is a different thing than the collapse itself—was a threat to the nation’s financial system. They apparently decided to backstop the banks to prevent more damage. But they are eager to remind people that they are not using taxpayer money to shore up a poorly managed bank.

Right now, this appears to leave us with two takeaways. The Biden administration had been considering tightening the banking regulations that were loosened under Trump, and it seems likely that the need for the federal government to step in to protect the depositors at SVB and Signature Bank will make it much harder for those opposed to regulation to keep that from happening. There will likely be increased pressure on the Biden administration to guard against helping out the wealthy and corporations rather than ordinary Americans.

And, perhaps even more important, the weekend of panic and fear over the collapse of just one major bank should make it clear that the Republicans’ threat to default on the U.S. debt, thus pulling the rug out from under the entire U.S. economy unless they get their way, is simply unthinkable.

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (born Lucius Septimius Bassianus, 4 April 188 – 8 April 217), better known by his nickname Caracalla was Roman emperor from 198 to 217 AD. He was a member of the Severan dynasty, the elder son of Emperor Septimius Severus and Empress Julia Domna. Proclaimed co-ruler by his father in 198, he reigned jointly with his brother Geta, co-emperor from 209, after their father's death in 211. His brother was murdered by the Praetorian Guard later that year under orders from Caracalla, who then reigned afterwards as sole ruler of the Roman Empire. Caracalla found administration to be mundane, leaving those responsibilities to his mother. Caracalla's reign featured domestic instability and external invasions by the Germanic peoples.

20 Questions for Fic Writers

I was tagged by the incomparable @remyfire (a few days ago now, sorry!) so thank you so so much for the tag!!

I think pretty much everyone I know/would tag has been tagged already, so if you haven't been yet, or if you just want to do this, please do! (Answers are under the cut because 20 questions take up a lot of space)

How many works do you have on AO3? 209, ish. (two fics still in the anon stage of exchanges!)

What's your total AO3 word count? 1,377,748 words! (so 1.3 million!!) 217k of that for this year 😅 but of course I haven't published everything I wrote this year so that number is a LITTLE low.

What fandoms do you write for? M*A*S*H and The West Wing, primarily.

What are your top five fics by kudos? Ties That Bind (Star Trek); a wild call and a clear call (that may not be denied) (Star Trek); Uncharted Territory (M*A*S*H); ye who are weary, come home (M*A*S*H); Beautiful to Take a Chance (M*A*S*H). so my readers like the spirk and the beejhawk (plus my M*A*S*H ensemble piece!) even if the actual kudos counts are probably pretty humble.

Do you respond to comments? I don't usually, and I should, but I get a little overwhelmed. I DO try and leave a thank you note in the end notes of each chapter though, because I love and cherish each comment.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I'm admittedly not typically an angst writer, so I had to think hard on this one. I go in usually for bittersweet or even happy endings... i guess probably 'a wild call and a clear call (that may not be denied)', if only because it's a pon farr fic and Jim and Spock are essentially 'mated' now, but uh. They don't end up together at the end of the fic.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Ah. see, this is more my speed. I like to think i write realistically happy endings... the happiest ending? I've written many (not enough 'happy endings' wink wink) but the happiest in context, I'd say, is the end of katabasis. a decision is made to keep going, to keep living. i also have a soft spot for you were meant for me (aka Peg sees Singin' in the Rain and decides to choose polyamory).

Do you get hate on fics? Not so far! But I also don't write particularly controversial subjects on a regular basis... I have had a few comments over the years that misunderstood what I was doing, but I'm reluctant to classify those as hate.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Uh. I write smut. I only publish some of it, because I'm so incredibly self-conscious about it. I want to write more, but I genuinely can't tell if what I'm writing is good/hot or not because I do not have the distance to do it. I'll write smut of all kinds (hell, I have a triad draft with everything from oral to pegging in it. it has not yet seen the light of day) but publishing it is another story. I really want to get better at it, but I have no idea how to get over myself. (it's the religious upbringing/repression/whatever but either way. sucks ass.)

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I don't typically write crossovers! I have a few that have chewed on my brain for a few years but don't exist yet (M*A*S*H x Star Trek:TOS) plus a few I think would just be funny (Hawkeye running as a third party candidate in the 1998 election in West Wing). Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! My fic "Here's Hoping We Meet Now and Then" (aka BJ gets everyone to help him with the goodbye rocks) was translated into German by my dear friend @vanillatumbleweedscoffee. You can find that translation here.

Have you ever co-written a fic before? I have! And tbh, I love the idea of collaborating more. (HMU). My friend (and beta) and I wrote a Charles/Donna fic back in 2020 or so, called "getting to like you (getting to hope you like me)" and I'm quite fond of it honestly. Plus a few verses that I've contributed to, but I don't know if those count as true collabs... More collabs!!!

What's your all time favorite ship? Ooh. Probably CJ/Danny, punnihawk (BJ/Peg/Hawkeye), beejhawk and Charles/Donna. No, I'm not narrowing it down any further. (Bisexuals? Choosing ONE thing? no.)

What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Okay. Sad moment of truth: I want to edit and post "make of our hearts, one heart" so badly. But I got so burnt out in the process of writing it, and editing 125,000 words is a particularly daunting task especially considering I think I basically have to rewrite it from the ground up... plus also not knowing if anyone even still wants to read it isn't helping (but that might be all in my head.) Essentially, I want the 125,000 pound albatross removed from its place around my neck. But do I think I'll finish it? I don't know. It has the triad wedding, literally all the smut that's fit to print (pegging! oral! one of my favourite BJ/Peg scenes!)... idk. Is it defeatist? Yes. I want to. I just don't know if I can.

What are your writing strengths? Dialogue. I think I'm pretty good at getting the vibes of characters. I'm good at coming up with plot concepts, and pretty decent at description. I think I'm good at fleshing out character backstories and giving voices to underutilized characters (Peg, Donna).

What are your writing weaknesses? Smut. all the way down. (If anyone out there has read my smut and has suggestions on how to improve... hmu). I can fully admit that I struggle with finding what I write hot, I struggle with sexy descriptions and honestly I just feel very self-conscious about the whole process. But I want to get better at it. I just don't quite know how. Is this too honest?

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? The occasional phrases, sure, but the only language I know besides English is French and that's more of an "I can read it" than "I can write it" situation. So overall? no.

First fandom you wrote for? Lost. (lmao). Followed by Downton Abbey. All of them still linger in their terrible glory on my ffnet account.
