An introduction to VR locomotives, part 5/7: the Sr2

The Swiss Clock. The Alpine Rose. The Guinea Pig. The Blob (affectionate). This time, we look at the Sr2 mainline electric locomotive.

With these locomotives, we opted for an established design by a foreign locomotive builder for the first time since the 1940s. And we were not disappointed: the Swiss Clocks work like Swiss Clocks. They were designed by the Swiss locomotive builder SLM, with 119 examples built for the Swiss national operator SBB-CFF-FFS, and a further 18 for another Swiss operator BLS.

The sleek looks of Sr2 were created by the Italian industrial design company Pininfarina. We ordered 20 of these sleek ladies in 1992. As they proved extremely good, we later increased the number first to 40 and then to 46. All were delivered between 1995 and 2003. (Our Norwegian colleagues at NSB followed our example in 1994 and ordered 22 units).

As originally specified, our ladies could reach a top speed of 230 km/h. However, as it was a little embarrassing that they were faster than our flagship high-speed Pendolino trains (which could only do 220 km/h), we later reclassified the top speed as 210 km/h. Still, their high speed allowed for Intercity trains to be upgraded to a maximum of 200 km/h running when we took delivery of new double-decker carriages starting 1998.

As our flagship units (let's admit, the Pendolinos are a bit rubbish), all Sr2's were repainted in out new green and white livery in the 2010s. Due to unavailability of spare parts, the first Sr2 (the prototype loco 3201) was retired in 2021 and used as a source of parts for its sisters.

So, I appear with Madou findings I forgot to give. And Yokai Watch updates.

I was supposed to show this in my last post but forgot to make a section for it, so I'm deciding to do it here, alongside other stuff.

Check it, a popularity poll around the time Saturn released. (The Schezo and Witch artwork.)

It's quite literally a popularity poll. There's the usual, Arle and Schezo being top 2, Witch and Draco in top 5, Satan being 6th, that nonsense. However, as we go down the list gets more interesting. Notably, Kikimora ranked 10 over Lagnus, who ranked 11th.

A few more notable placement is Momomo outplacing Suke (15th to 19th), Skeleton-T being 14th, and 20th being Honey Bee.

Waku Puyo Stuff:

So, a pal (@kirstenonic05 ) and I decided to go through some old Waku Waku Puyo Puyo Dungeon manuals we found online, and honestly? Yielded interesting results.

Waku Puyo Translations takes a super long time. Believe me, I'm working on them.

But with that, here's some of what we found.

Photo of Serilly inside one of these manuals. If you notice, there's some text next to her, so I decided to quickly run through these. The result is:

A magical girl whose tone is influenced by The Drifters (a Japanese comedy band), with phrases such as "Oops!" and "That won't work!" She has a rivalry with Arle, but for some reason, she has a soft spot for Schezo. (You can also say she's very friendly to him.) She tends to be nosy.

Quick Yokai Stuff:

A while back, I posted the 3D models of the Yokai Watch collab finally being unearthed, so I decided to just quickly find some neat looking stuff.

This thing.

First thing I wanna say about it: Arle is legit part of the metagame. She's unironically amazing.

Second, just some promotional artwork I found of the game. I couldn't find more stuff for Witch for some... unexplainable reason.

(Thank goodness for my friend finding the last image. And also the watermark being noticeable enough.)

Some fun stuff happened for this week. The community did its best to rally around poor Nick Jackson. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to get him over the 50% smash mark. However, he received the sixth most votes out of all the polls so far. He just also received the second most pass votes out of all the polls (second only to Vince McMahon back in week 2). Meanwhile, Matt received the ninth most total votes, but he came in at 59.2% smash.

The apple fell pretty far from the tree for nepo baby Charlie Dempsey. For those who aren't aware, he's William Regal's son. William Regal's vote was 65.6% smash, while Charlie Dempsey's result was 22.1% smash. Maybe he'll grow up and get more smashable over time. I’ve been thinking a bit about Mo’s outfit from one of the recent official arts (see below), which, yeah, okay, no complaints here, pfft. What keeps standing out to me about it though is the “Momo” on this top; it’s the sort of nickname that Mo wouldn’t use for himself, but something He Tian would call him by, yeah? Which made me think, “Was this sexy ensemble chosen by He Tian?” and if so, “How often does he dress up his boyfriend?”

If there’s a pre-existing compilation of this, I’ll gladly reblog, as always, but until then, I present to you all the times Mo has worn something either given to him by He Tian or belonging to He Tian. (The numbers in the panels are the chapters.)
