✧ Bout to dive into some deep Eddie psyche here ✧

Can we just talk about what it really means to be held back from graduating twice? To repeat senior year three times?

How humiliating that must have been walking the hallways again after everybody in your class is gone. Meeting the gaze of the people younger than you in the hallways wondering why you’re still here. The teachers in your classes shaking their heads at you when they call your name on the first day of school.

He went through this twice.

He could have said fuck it and dropped out but he didn’t. He could have just gone for his GED but he didn’t. Why?

Perhaps Eddie had something to prove. Something to prove to himself but also maybe to everyone else. Maybe his dad never graduated high school and he wanted to do better.

I think hellfire was a big part of what kept him coming back. He had a family there. A family of little lost sheep and he had a duty to them as their leader. He felt like he had somewhere he belonged outside of his band.

I think there was a part of him that wanted to go back and try again, there must have been or he wouldn’t have done it. Eddie doesn’t seem like the kind of person to really put up with doing things he doesn’t want to do.

I think deep down Eddie craves normalcy. Craves a normal family, craves being accepted, craves hitting that normal milestone that is graduating high school like everyone else. But these things didn't work out for Eddie and so he just leaned into his freak side, hard. Wore it like an armor, like a badge of honor.

He resolved himself to being as much of a freak as everyone else thought he was. Might as well embrace it. Might as well flaunt it. Might as well be as different and scary as he was perceived. He's attracted to things that have "outsider" as their defining characteristics.

Eddie is not stupid. Eddie is deeply creative. He read the Lord of the Rings for crying out loud, not a light read. He can see projects through. He writes and organizes whole campaigns and learns an 8 minute song on guitar in two weeks. He's an artist, a thespian, and a novice mechanic. All self taught. Eddie just has adhd.

If there's one thing Eddie isn't, it's a quitter. If there's another thing Eddie isn't, it's a coward.

And then the suffer brothers treat him like the punchline to some sort of joke. “Oh haha he didn’t get to graduate it’s sad haha it was his year lmao wow shock value lol he had no future anyway”
