[SGU] 1.13: Faith
Tumblr media
Previously aboard the Destiny… shit got real. There was a coup. Also, there was a very unidealistic situation involving a subspace tracker embedded in Rush’s chest.
Who’s the blondie??
Oh, they’re just all miserable.
And Rush probably should still be in bed.
…???
Wtf, when did Young get a personality transplant??
Empty galaxy? Empty space?? What’s happening??
Is… is there a black hole around somewhere? I hope not.
Wait… was blondie TJ and I’m just dumb??
So… is it a baby star?
Wait, so there is a planet in the solar system?
This sounds too good to be true… it’s freaking me out.
Time dilation field??
Something about this planet doesn’t feel right… it’s too perfect.
What is that, a kiwi? A yellow kiwi?
GREER, NO.
“We also found some fruit. Greer, went ahead and ate one.”
What? Why did he stop talking??
What is that? It looks like some funky ass obelisk.
Built a planet?? Genesis device? Is he talking about – ah, yes, Star Trek.
Eli has a point guys…
A month on this suspiciously nice planet… well now.
“How many of you guys have gone camping before?”
Greer isn’t taking that shit.
TJ… you don’t look so hot. I’ve seen that expression before, it’s the Oh-shit-please-don’t-let-me-pass-out.
Methinks maybe an ascended being might have tried to help out a stranded ship at some point…
“We can turn left, but not right, or up or down.”
Am I the only one who looks at TJ and thinks omg, it’s like an older version of Clarke from the 100?
*snorts* Sorry Chloe, I’m pretty sure she’s gonna be a mama.
It does look hinky.
Yes, what is that? Is that the obelisk??
Uhoh. Scott, don’t go there.
Scott’s face. Ohmygod.
TJ’s reaction to Colonel Young coming down… like shit, she didn’t see that coming.
Colonel Young shutting down Volker. :)
Wow, Volker is… I don’t even have the words to describe how sceptical I am right now. Delusional?
So I guess we all going back to Destiny now?
Scott’s got a point bro.

Stargate Universe -- Faith
Stargate Universe Reviews
Ah yes, the episode where we find out that TJ is pregnant and Young invites Rush on a playdate.
That’s . . . . kind of what happened in this one, right? :)
Also Rush please ftlog TAKE A NAP.
Honestly I found a lot of this one kind of dull on the alien planet, but the Young/Rush UST is always entertaining.
And isn’t “playing chess” a euphemism for . . . . other stuff?
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=play%20chess
Yeah . . . . .

Can you imagine if the writers of Stargate weren't Christians and Cowards????
Listen. Listen. If your plot centers on all gods and big names from folklore from all religions and mythologies being Actually Evil Aliens then you can't be a goddamn fucking coward and pretend that YOUR religion, your christianity is the only sacred, untouchable religion that will literally never even be brought up or considered in the show.
Literally SGU has all these outright Christian characters and themes and shit and it's so goddamn fucking hilarious and christian-centric considering that everything Stargate stands for is bastardizing all non-christian religions and mythologies.
Can you imagine if the fucking christian characters had to have their faith confronted and destroyed the way every other Goa'uld worshipper had to? A god you should fear as a matter of course? "We're all god-fearing people" is apparently a GOOD thing to be???? A god that wiped out all life on earth except for his hand-picked favorites and any animals they could carry? The "son of god" that went around healing people and came back to life??? You're telling me that these, in any other fucking religion and mythology wouldn't be used as examples to the people worshiping the Goa'uld calling themselves their god????
Fuck the writers of Stargate.
You do NOT get to bash and demonize every other religion on fucking earth and get scandalized and outraged when someone even dares to introduce the concept of christianity being under the same rules in the Stargate universe??????
"but MY RELIGION IS SACRED!!!" Too fucking bad then maybe you shouldn't have had any religions from earth be the ones the Goa'uld introduced then shut the fuck up.
DNI if you're going to put your christianity-centric clownery on this post.

Working Wednesday (on Thursday)
I didn’t get as much writing done last week as I had planned, but I did get a lot of things transferred over to Scrivener. Here is the state of my current WIPs
The Library Beneath the Clock Tower: AU Cursed Storybrooke. (Inspried by/based on The Bookshop on the Corner: A Novel, by Jenny Colgan)
Storybrooke has no library, and neither does Belle, not since the library where she worked in Boston discovered her past as an inpatient at a mental hospital. Taking her future into her own hands, Belle travels to Storybrooke where her intention is to open up the town library, but all does not go according to her plan. Obstacles and false starts, and diversion along very wrong pathways interrupt her journey toward fulfilling her dream, as well as taking her rightful place and becoming a part of the Storybrooke community. - Aside from planning, nothing new since the last update.
All Our Past Mistakes: AU Non-Cursed Storybrooke
Doctor Gold, professor of history at the local campus of Maine University, is stuck in a loveless, and one might say abusive relationship with a wife who is less than attentive to their family, and whom he suspects cares little for her marital vows. His resolve to maintain his own faithfulness is sorely tested by the presence of one of his new students - a junior by the name of Belle French - whom it seems fate is determined to put in his way. The two become embroiled in a passionate, and redemptive relationship, but not before suffering numerous setbacks and separations. This is no instantaneous happy ever after, but a tale of two hurt souls finding their way together through darkness and despair. - 1,106 words of the next chapter written
Disparate Pathways: AU and Remix of Witness Protection, which was written for the 2019 RSS.
Gold has a past, a past that he has rejected, but it seems one that will not let him go. Belle, daughter of Governor Maurice French has been kidnapped, along with her mother, and just as the authorities raid the organization that is holding her hostage, decides to make her own bid for freedom, unknowingly derailing an undercover sting, and Agent Milnor has not choice but to take her into ‘protective custody,’ but is he all that he seems? As the threads of the story grow more tangled and the threat to Belle, and to Gold, her appointed protector, grow ever more real, a growing, mutual attraction makes everything far more desperate and far too personal for Gold to ignore what he knows to be the truth. - no change since last update
Scattered: AU OUAT, where the curse didn’t quite happen the way it did on the show. (It went ‘wrong’)
Casting a spell, any spell - at least the ones that involve more than just the wave of a hand, or worse, the wave of an irritating fairy’s wand - takes time, and patience, and the right ingredients, and… just like any recipe, if you get it wrong, it doesn’t mean the cake won’t cook, rather then will, just with unexpected or unintended outcomes. All of Rumplestiltskin’s careful planning and manipulation, all of his hopes and dreams turn to dust; ashes in his bitter heart in the blink of an eye… in the fall of an equine heart. Belle exchanges one terrible prison for another, and it’s one she is desperate to escape, and though Rumple’s fate as The Savior was severed from him centuries ago, sometimes fate itself has a way of finding an alternate route home. - 292 words written: no change since last update
What the Actual Fuck! : Sutherelle fic
Prime Minister Robert Sutherland is feeling pressured, and isn’t prepared to acquiesce to the repeated challenges from within his cabinet nor the wider circle of those around him. He resorts to drastic measures to ascertain who can be trusted, turning to an ‘old friend’ to help him separate the wheat from the chaff. Said friend promises to send in his best operative to assist the PM, the trouble is the operative finds out more than Robert necessarily wants to know, and all this just as all hell is breaking loose around him; people hurt, Britain in chaos and multiple deaths push him into making some hard hitting decisions in order to safeguard himself, the country, and the people he cares about - Chapters 1 and 2 are up, and I’m working on this fic in light of both the ‘teasers’ for the next season and ‘current events’ - no change since last update.
Breathe: (Working title) Rushbelle.  This is still in the planning stage and will be a rewrite of SGU, as a sequel to  Chosen, But Not Wanted.
Gilded: March Monthly Rumbelling.  Rumbelle Slight AU. Belle has been taken to the castle of her future husband to begin her new life; a life she does not want. The Dark One is also trapped within the castle, and wishes for release.  Can they free each other, and to what end? - 656 words written
Also, I still have 2 series awaiting their next works: Darker Hearts: an AU Wish!Rumbelle, and Thoughts On A Happy Ending: A Rumblelle focussed Belle introspective of the entire journey from season 1 through season 7. Nothing has been written for either just yet, so no change since the last update.
All published works can be found on AO3 where I write as Eilinelithil.
Also Please feel free to ask me questions, anonymous asks accepted, I’ll talk about most things if you ask :)

Was Stargate Universe trying to be Battlestar Galactica?
Ok.
So I've watched every episode of star trek.
I hated Enterprise.
I watched all of the Stargate series.
I hated Universe and was actually in pain for the majority of my viewing of it.
I watched Babylon 5.
Crusade was painful and a real chore to finish. But I did it.
So now I'm watching Battlestar Galactica.
And it's definitely reminiscent of modern sci fi where you don't do so much techno babble and goofy, fun space things.
You do gritty dramas and space wars and mass extinctions.
You do sex and crew drama and everyone hates each other or is madly in love with each other.
It's still sci fi but more...serious.
It wants to be taken seriously.
Gone are the days of captain Kirk and the cowboy Western in space.
Which is fine.
But im watching Battlestar and it does gritty right.
It's a really intriguing story with a lot of sex, violence, moral ambiguity.
A story about human hubris and human survival.
Really asks hard hitting questions about human pragmatism vs human faith.
And i personally enjoy it because it makes me think about a lot of moral questions.
But that being said.
Stargate Universe was made after (during?) Battlestar Galactica's reimagining.
It's dark and edgy.
The original Stargate had its dark moments and a lot of dark concepts but it wasn't like.
Wasn't going to have like, a woman getting gangraped by soldiers repeatedly to the point of wanting to die or have complex explicit sexual and romantic relationships or talk about the US military firing on its own population and declaring martial law.
It typically had outside forces as the threat and some government meddling, but mostly from "alien forces infiltrate and work with greedy businessmen" plots.
It wasn't nearly as dark, is my point.
But in SGU, we literally have a genius hacker kid whose mother was stabbed with a fucking HIV needle.
We have scientist dude who's ambitious and doesn't care about his crew and will do terrible things in the name of research.
We have a captain who left him on a planet to die.
We have mutinies and civilians being beaten by the military.
And of course, this ship is floating around in space and everyone's in constant fear of dying or just generally never getting home.
I found most of the characters unlikable.
But that's besides the point.
As I'm watching BSG, I'm thinking.
Was SGU trying to be BSG?
Like was everyone fucking each other trying to imitate the sex in BSG?
Was everyone being angry and violent, Greer prepared to shoot everyone and anything, trying to be Galactica's interpersonal relationships blowing up under pressure?
Was the plot where they're trapped out in space trying to be Galactica trying to survive and guide the fleet home?
I mean.
It was clearly trying to adapt to sci fi tastes being different I guess.
No more goofiness or joy in space travel.
Gotta be like Battlestar?
Gotta have those deep character dramas or else people won't care?
But Stargate Atlantis and Stargate were engaging.
They didn't need to be sad and depressing and have horrible music playing loudly over a sex montage.
SGU it feels like now was like...trying to make itself more modern.
It was going for hey you GOTTA watch this.
And it was less episodic and trying to go for a more interconnected plot because I guess other series were an inspiration for them.
But I don't know, man.
The concept is cool but the execution was just terrible.
SGU had a handful of good episodes.
I think it's cliffhanger was actually a decent idea.
But I can't help but think now looking back after watching Battlestar, that it was missing something Battlestar had.
And that's characters you not only expect to fuck up but who are GOING to fuck up.
Rush?
I hated the guy. He's a sleaze. He can't be trusted and he's horrible most of the time. He's selfish and doesn't care about his crew.
The captain whose name I can't seem to remember?
He's ok but I couldn't like him very much after he fucking left rush to die on a planet.
I also hated when the civilians tried to take over and he then orders his soldiers to fucking rough house them back into compliance and then the next episode everything's fine and dandy.
He's more likable than others but still not exactly someone I wanted to root for.
Then there was Chloe, who's just plain dull.
And her dull fucking relationship with that boring guy who was supposed to be the Lee Adama everyday military dude you root for.
But I didn't.
Cuz he was boring too.
Genius kid was alright, since he actually has a sense of humor but he's hung up on Chloe.
And then his cyber terrorist computer program girlfriend?
Uh.
Ok.
Annoying medic girl who slept with the captain and has no personality outside of being nice and fucking the captain who's like twice her age and married.
Angry Greer, who's angry.
That girl who likes the Lee Adama lookalike.
Asian lesbian character (which I did appreciate) who's a politician, but who's often not the focus of any episode.
A smattering of engineers with forgettable faces.
So I didn't like SGU. there were moments I liked. There were some episodes I even liked.
But I think Battlestar works because it worked with the concept it had before, but chose to intensify it naturally.
The concept of humans on the run, trying to find a home planet while enemies are attacking them, and trying to desperately hold onto not just their last remaining fleet, but their hope?
Yeah. It could be mega dark. Mega sexual. Much angst.
And I haven't seen the original series, so maybe it was just as dark. I don't know.
The point is that it could be dark.
And its characters might be in a dark place, but they all shine.
They SHINE.
They may be good people, bad people, have complex motives, but you do want to see them succeed.
Stargate Universe went for the same one, but...magical transportation ring that takes you to other planets didn't have to have a guy whose mother got stabbed by a drug addict who then gives her aids.
Like why.
It COULDVE been good, with the darker tone, I mean it didn't need to be exactly like Atlantis or sg1, but it botched the job.
By not giving us an O'Neill, a sarcastic and cynical but good hearted military guy.
A Daniel, the warmer, more empathetic , and culturally sensitive guy who cares about people before military strategies.
A Samantha, a scientist who acts as a medium between the pragmatic and empathetic.
It just lacked the heart of sg1 and even of Atlantis.
It gave us edgy without giving us people to care about.
You can't just make an edgy moody teenager character and expect us to care about their angst without giving us a reason to root for them.
So.
Jesus.
TL;DR: I love Battlestar Galactica and as I'm watching it, I'm thinking...
Was Stargate Universe trying to be as edgy as Battlestar Galactica but without the superb cast of characters and lighter moments to balance out the weightier themes?
I think so. But I don't know.

Free To Think We Are, Maybe.
I gotta confess, I listen to a lot of podcasts. Some of them are strictly entertainment (Now Playing, How Did This Get Made, The Mo And Sally Morning Show, etc.), some are educational in a general sense (Every Little Thing, for example), some are science-based (Oh No Ross And Carrie, The Skeptics Guide To The Universe) and the others are a mixed bag (Wild Thing, Futility Closet, Up and Vanished). So I hear a variety of things as I walk through our little town of Berthoud for exercise at about 5 in the morning, which intrigues me when I hear similar topics brought up for presentation from two different sources.
This morning I was listening to the latest episode of The SGU when one of the hosts asked a guest “So let’s get right to it - do you believe in free will?” I kind of gasped a little, because just yesterday I was listening to the latest episode of Ira Glass’s wonderful weekly show “This American Life” and one of the stories centered on the very same thing. I mean, until 36 hours ago I really didn’t give the possibility that we did not have free will any thought. In my more religious days I was never a Calvinist of any sort, and my faith was based around choices. Day to day I believe that we have choices in everything we do. Could it be possible that that is artifice, hiding a clockwork existence?
Scientifically, the subject is approached by looking at an action, then looking behind it. For example, let’s say you arch your eyebrow. That happens through the stimulation of the muscle, which happens because some neurons fired, which happens because other things caused that and on and on, backwards without end. Each step is caused by a step before it, removing the chance to start something new out of nowhere. There’s no ability to step in. At least that’s what is posited by some very deep thinkers. Others follow that back a long long way until they get to a point that they can’t explain with a theory. At that point it might as well be (as they said on TAL) “magic or god”. Now there are apparently some things that happen at the atomic level which truly look random and could be unplanned, so maybe there is hope of free will there. Anyway, it is a shocking train of thought, and those things that we are so proud of in our character and actions are maybe predestined, so maybe we shouldn’t be so proud. Inversely, those things that we are not proud of are perhaps not a matter of choice and so we shouldn't feel as bad about them.
This kind of stuff can make your head hurt if you spend too much time on it. I guess at this point in my life I choose to believe that my choice to believe in free will is my own, but we’ll never really know, will we?

Y’all fellow Gaters,
as you remember, a while ago we announced that we were planning to add aditional viewings to the roster, to help distract us all from the currently not so nice situation, and asked you all to vote on which additional days to our usual sunday viewings you’d like to watch some SG with us. The results are in, and we’ve adjusted our roster acordingly: in addition to sundays well also be hosting the VP on tuesdays and thursdays at the same time (9pm CEST). For the current week we’re going according to our old schedule, wich was going to be SG-1 1x08 Brief Candle, SGA 1x09 Home and SGU 1x13 Faith anyway. Everything after that, you can look up at this page: https://stargatevp.tumblr.com/reminder.

[SGU] 2.13: Alliances
Tumblr media
Previously aboard the Destiny… for a short while, there were two Rushs’, and my dirty brain was delighted. Also, there was a minor time-travel gimmick, there were two Telfords’ – one died – and apparently dialling from a star is a very bad idea.
Telford eyeing up Rush like he thinks this Rush murdered the other him. Um, no.
Senator Michael’s?
Greer’s been refusing the stones? How’d I not notice that?
???
!!!
Wtf bro?
So… do we like this Covel dude? Or are we gonna need a shovel?
Based on the “Yeah, on my way” and then just sitting there drinking coffee…
Just because you don’t like the fact that something won’t work, doesn’t mean Rush is lying about it being unfeasible.
Okay, so Chloe likes this Senator lady… but is this going to go awfully wrong?
I do not like this alarm. Not one bit.
Jfc. Thank god Greer managed to shove her under the desk. I don’t think the people in the hallway would have survived.
I don’t like this Senator lady very much… looking down on Chloe’s participation in the Destiny.
What happened is the ceiling caved in, you jerk!
Bright side Greer, it’s not actually your knee.
Oh man, I hope those ceiling tiles don’t have asbestos in them… that wouldn’t be good for anybody atm.
*snorts*
Camille and Greer to the rescue!
Idk about this “airman” he might be a plant.
Yeah… I think that ‘airman’ was the pilot. Crash the ship, leave the bomb and book it. That’s… okay, tbh, if I was a terrorist (WHICH I AM NOT THANKYOU) it would be something I’d consider for maximum damage.
TJ and Varro are cute.
I don’t like the way Senator Lady said that.
Yep. Evans is definitely a plant. Too panicky, and too pretty.
*snorts*
“We work here too.”
I do not like Covel. Not one bit.
a b s e s t o s
is that a Geiger counter?
???
Well shiit.
Good news… if we turn off the stones, Camile and Greer won’t die… bad news… wither way, the Senator and Covel are dead.
Told you so…
Maybe the radiation is affecting the stones?
Didn’t I say this kid was too pretty to be an actual airman.
Well now. Isn’t this interesting.
So shiny. So deadly.
“Something we can live with… I think.”
Chloe’s got more faith than a church full of priests.
Covel did what now??
Is he alliance too??
Dude, you’ll die either way. You’re just killing more people.
This Senator has more balls than anybody so far. All these strong women in this show just amazes me.
Camille is so brave. ;w;
“Can you tell Chloe that I’m proud of her.”
I take back everything I ever said about Senator Michaels’.

Working Wednesday On Saturday
What can I say? RL got in the way of everything that helps sustain me as who I am.  It’s been two weeks since the last working Wednesday was posted.  Sorry.  Anyway, here is the state of my current WIPs.
- 5,330 words written since the last update - which is almost 2 chapters. I hope to get one edited and posted later today.  This is my Camp NaNoWriMo project, so there will probably be lots of updates very soon.
- 1,106 words of the next chapter written. 1,101 words written and posted. (Chapter 5)
- 1,543 words written and posted (Chapter 4)
Said friend promises to send in his best operative to assist the PM, the trouble is the operative finds out more than Robert necessarily wants to know, and all this just as all hell is breaking loose around him; people hurt, Britain in chaos and multiple deaths push him into making some hard hitting decisions in order to safeguard himself, the country, and the people he cares about - Chapters 1 and 2 are up, and I’m working on this fic in light of both the ‘teasers’ for the next season and ‘current events’ - no change since last update, although I have now figured out some of the upcoming plot.
Breathe: Rushbelle.  This is still in the planning stage and will be a rewrite of SGU, as a sequel to  Chosen, But Not Wanted. - no change since last update.
Gilded: March Monthly Rumbelling.  Rumbelle Slight AU.
Belle has been taken to the castle of her future husband to begin her new life; a life she does not want. The Dark One is also trapped within the castle, and wishes for release.  Can they free each other, and to what end? - Posted.  This was 9,122 words in the end.
Mistress: Rushbelle. This was a ‘drabble’ prompt given to me by @jackabelle73 that I got a little carried away with and wrote 1,068 words instead of 100.  That tends to happen with me.
Rush got sent for refreshments, and got a little sidetracked. When Belle catches up to him, she's not at all pleased. A one shot in the Chosen, but not Wanted universe.
April Monthly Rumbelling is in the planning stage, I have a feeling that this is going to be my first attempt at Woven Beauty. Boy, am I ever embracing things I wouldn’t ever have expected myself to try.
I also need to catch up on the StayHomeWriMo prompts. My plan is to try some linked drabble/double drabbles, but... well - see above!
Also Please feel free to ask me questions, anonymous asks accepted, I’ll talk about most things if you ask :) You can also prompt me if you wish.
