Watching Snyder League
-Diana literally vaporizes a guy armed with nothing but an assault rifle.
-Also, these have gotta be like the dumbest terrorists. Their plan:
A. Send multiple armed gunmen to take hostages.
B. Stall for time
C. Set off a suitcase bomb on a one minute countdown (why not just set it off immediately? It's In The Script)
You have a suitcase bomb--just park a car somewhere, set the timer, leave it in the trunk, and walk away. You can kill as many people as you want without losing any of your own guys.
-Superman's scream sends out five separate shockwaves. Which makes me think the guy's milking it, personally.
- I'm amused that both SOP for the Amazons is having, like, fifty people standing around guarding the Mother Box. AND that they don't ramp up security after it wakes up.
- And there's this system of burying the Mother Box.  Which 1. seems like the only way to get there in the first place is to teleport in. What good is this system against a teleporter?
2. It takes six guards to suicide themselves by knocking down pillars, which seems like--in five thousand years, you couldn't come up with something where you just pull a level from twenty feet away?
This is the problem with the Amazons. They're all women, so none of them go into STEM fields.
- It's also real weird that this Bruce Wayne doesn't even try to hide that he's Batman. He just walks right up to Aquaman and goes "hey, Bruce Wayne, I'm also Batman." And remember, he's getting the Justice League together entirely based on a hunch. At least in Josstice League, there were Parademons all up in Gotham.
- And should I even bother to ask why Darkseid's people can't just bring three new Mother Boxes to Earth? Are those the only three? If so, you'd think they'd try to get them back sooner. Like, A LOT sooner.
- Okay, this was supposed to come out one year before Infinity War, but still, it was pretty obvious what Marvel was doing with Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. They had to know they were inviting comparisons.
-I love the implication, tho, that Darkseid just lost track of the Mother Boxes and just... no one realized they were back on Earth. And they have Parademons that can specifically sniff out the Mother Boxes.
-And if Superman dying was such a momentous occasion that it woke up a Mother Box, why not the Old Gods dying? Why not Ares dying? Wouldn't that have left Earth just as undefended?
-I have no idea why any of this is happening a couple years after Superman debuted and then died and not in, like, 1446.
-Are the Mother Boxes like finicky computers? Do you need to turn them off and on again? When Superman showed up, did they shut down for real, and then he died, so they came back on for real? Is it like a Windows 95 thing, where you can't JUST turn the computer off, you have to go to the start menu and press Shutdown and then wait for it to close up shop?
-It’s so weird that this is supposed to be a Dark, Mature Adaptation For Adults! And it doesn’t have the same basic logic you’d get from an episode of Power Rangers.
-So. Much. Daddy issues.
-Please stop letting Ezra Miller improv.
-They cast like the gayest man in America to play the one guy with a love interest.
-Diana: "I lost someone I loved once." Well, twice, but who's counting?
-All those reshoots and they couldn't get Amber Heard to knock off the British accent?
-Why is Desaad, of all people, Darkseid’s dragon? Is it just because they were rifling through all the Fourth World saga to find the few guys with scary names instead of Granny Goodness or Virman Vundabar?
- And they really play up Darkseid appearing to Steppenwolf, but we've not only already seen him in the big flashback, we saw him get his ass kicked by Zeus of all people.
- And the whole thing where Steppenwolf is part of Darkseid's 'family' really isn't helping the Thanos-Nebula-Gamora comparison.
-It's weird to introduce Darkseid as the guy who was already beaten once. Wouldn't it make more sense that Steppenwulf was the guy who lost, and that allowed Darkseid to take over, and now he's trying to redeem himself for his defeat? Or that Darkseid was never defeated at all, but someone stole the Anti-Life Equation from him and hid it on Earth? Something. Instead, it’s literally just randomly burnt into the crust of the Earth, Darkseid discovers it, then forgets all about it for reasons the movie doesn’t get into despite being four damn hours long.
-It’s only the central plot, whatever, forget about it.
- Pretty sure Kal eye-lasered a couple Army guys to death after he was resurrected, not that he ever gives a shit.
-Third big reveal of Darkseid. Come on, you've shown him three times now. We've heard him talk.
-And this does the same thing as Josstice League with Superman being more powerful than the rest of the JLA put together. Here, he even no-sells Steppenwolf's axe. He just lets it hit him and it doesn’t do shit. So Doomsday could kill him, but Steppenwolf can't even scratch him. And yet Wonder Woman seems pretty evenly matched with both, if not outclassed by Steppenwolf.
-Barry Allen spends the whole climax running in a circle. And he fails at it! Dude's really retarded when he doesn't have Team STAR Labs cheering him on.
-He also casually travels back in time to undo his side getting a Game Over, which makes you wonder how any conflict in this universe can ever have any stakes. Say what you will about Endgame, but at least they explain why time travel can’t solve every problem they ever have.
-Hell, the Mother Boxes can bring people back to life. The example used is literally “it can turn smoke back into a house.” Why not bring Joe Morton back to life? He did a good job in T2, c’mon.
-Speaking of, according to TV Tropes, Ray Fisher got to come up with his own backstory for Cyborg (”I don't praise Chris Terrio and Zack Snyder for simply putting me in Justice League. I praise them for EMPOWERING me (a black man with no film credits to his name) with a seat at the creative table and input on the framing of the Stones before there was even a script!”), which makes it kinda hilarious that this movie’s characterization of Cyborg is that he’s a genius sports hero who also loves helping out the underprivileged.
-AND his big conflict with his dad is that Silas Stone was never there for him, as literally represented by there being an empty seat next to his mom at Vic’s big sportsball game. So apparently the black experience is indistinguishable from Austin Powers In Goldmember. Who knew?
-What else? It's weird that the narrative tries to put some importance in Martha Kent, but then in her big scene with Lois, she's really Martian Manhunter (not kidding) and when Superman is resurrected, he hears encouraging words ONLY from Jor-El and Jonathan. All she really contributes to the story is hugging Superman after he comes back.
-Also, Batman spends a lot of time in the climax shooting people with a rifle. They're bug people and it's, like, a Halo rifle, but still. You can tell Snyder's just chomping at the bit to have Batman carry around a Colt Commando.
-They give no shits about secret identities in this, so why do they still bother with putting a shitty distortion effect on Batfleck's voice? He has a pretty good Batman voice outside the suit, but once he puts it on, he starts sounding like he's giving a blowjob to Daft Punk.
-One of the movie’s, like, four cliffhangers is Lex Luthor telling Deathstroke about Batman’s secret identity, because Deathstroke has a private vendetta against Batman and is out to get him. Of all the Bat rogues who are solely motivated by taking out Batman--why choose Deathstroke, the guy that’s just a mercenary for hire, to characterize as simply hating Batman? (They also imply Batman took out Deathstroke’s eye and THAT’S the big feud between him and--guys. C’mon. This was really supposed to be a whole movie of Deathstroke getting revenge for his eye?)
- The movie ends with them making Wayne Manor the JLA headquarters--God, just tell me if secret identities matter or not.
-Did we really need two ‘beyond the impossible’ scenes back to back, one for Cyborg and one for the Flash?
-Oh, it’s not Arkham Asylum, it’s ‘Arkham Home For The Emotionally Troubled.’ Was this supposed to be one of those Arrowverse things where they call it Starling City for a while, only to rebrand it Star City because that’s somehow better than just calling it Star City in the first place?
- "[Snyder] also said that the reason Darkseid lost track of which world the Mother Boxes were left on was because he was gravely injured and their forces sent limping away, and upon returning to Apokolips had to fight a civil war for the throne (possibly the event hinted where Steppenwolf betrayed him), wherein their records were lost." Imagine having a movie four hours long and not explaining the fucking backstory.

Chapter 15:  What The Hell Was She Doing In Texas?
Y/n and Bucky were taking things slow. Not painfully slow, but a good pace. Training together, going out together, staying in together, talking about everything together. It had been a nice three weeks. It kept her going, and a little distracted. Things were good, and they wanted things to keep getting better and better.
Y/n now sat in the conference room with the team. She’d been cleared to go on missions a little over two weeks ago, and today was going to be her first.
“So,” Sam started, “It looks like we have some unusual activity in Texas. Three people have gone missing – a former S.H.I.E.L.D agent, and astrophysicist, and young enhanced woman with the ability to manipulate electricity.”
Sharon passed out dossiers on the missing individuals. As Y/n began paging through the folders, she stopped on the picture of the enhanced girl. She was so young, silver-streaked hair, pointed ears. She looked vaguely familiar. Y/n began reading the personal information on the next page.
“Shit!” she said, cutting Sam off mid-sentence.
“Something you need to share?” Sam asked, side-eying her.
“I recognize her. I trained with her. We called her Aurora. She can’t manipulate electricity – she has Photokinetic powers. Yes, she can shoot lightening blasts, but she can also send out concussive blasts, has super speed, and some invisibility powers.”
Clint paged through his folder, looking confused, “None of this is in here, Y/n.”
“Well, it’s a different timeline. She might not even know she has some of these powers yet, but she has the potential. She also has multiple personalities, so she can sometimes be difficult to control. You never know who you’re dealing with.”
“And you trained with her?” Bucky asked, wide-eyed.
“Yes. Steve, Bruce and Tony were working on ways to help her control her powers and her personalities. It was actually working really well. Aurora is actually one of the personalities... the one who showed most often. What the hell was she doing in Texas?”
“It’s unclear why she was there,” Sharon started, “But, Y/n, if you know her, this could really help us to figure out why she was taken. Do you know any of these other people?”
“Here - Bobbi Morse. She’s a biochemist, if I remember correctly, in addition to being a S.H.I.E.L.D agent. In my timeline, you were married to her, Clint.”
“What?!” Clint looked completely shocked.
“Yeah, sorry. Probably could have left that out... forget about it for now. Not important. I don’t know the astrophysicist, Melinda. I don’t recognize her at all.”
“Y/n! This is great! What else can you tell us about Bobbi?” Sam asked, “Strengths, weaknesses?”
“Um...” she trailed off, looking through the file, “nothing more than what you already have on her.”
“Damn, Y/n! You coming from another timeline is really coming in handy,” Sam smiled, slapping the table in front of him.
“So, anything else we should know about Aurora?” Bucky asked.
“Super speed, she can fucking fly! Shooting lightening blasts, and she can emit a calming light that can distract her opponents. But, like I said, she may not know about any of these yet. Actually, I’m willing to bet that she doesn’t, because she’s probably have used them on whoever took her. She could be dangerous if she’s unaware of these powers, especially with her now being under duress. They could manifest.”
“So, we have to be extremely cautious,” Sam said.
“To say the least. Do we know who took them?”
“Yes, that’s where we left off,” Sam said, smiling. “You really weren’t paying attention, were you?”
Y/n cringed, “Sorry, Dad.”
“It’s okay. As long as you’re not day dreaming, we’re good. It appears that Arthur Goddard, aka ‘Headlok,’ has them in a remote warehouse. Y/n, do you know anything about him?”
“Nope, blissfully ignorant, Sam.”
“Alright. He appears to have mind manipulation techniques. We still can’t figure out why these three women exactly, but we need to get to them as soon as possible so he can’t exact whatever plan he has in mind.”
“Mind control?” Bucky asked, his voice shaky.
Y/n looked at him and saw fear flash in his eyes. He turned pale when Sam nodded “yes.” As Y/n moved to grab his hand, he looked at her with a small smile. He wanted her to know that he was okay, but she was too smart for that.
“Bucky,” she said quietly, squeezing his hand.
Sam, completely unaware of the mood change in the room, finished his speech with a “Wheels up in 30.”
     -----💥🌀💥🌀💥🌀💥🌀💥🌀💥🌀-----
Y/n knocked on Bucky’s door after getting her gear ready for the mission.
“Yeah,” Bucky yelled from inside the room.
Y/n opened the door to see him shirtless, all of his gear laid out on the bed.
“Bucky? Are you okay? You seemed a little...”
“Scared shitless? Yes,” he cut her off, chuckling to himself.
“Bucky, stop. Look at me.”
He finished putting a knife in his vest, and he turned to look at Y/n. He saw tears welling in her eyes.
“Hey... what’s... why are you crying?” he asked, softly, pulling Y/n in to his bare chest.
“I’m so sorry, Bucky. I know this timeline has not been kind to you. I know how you’ve been broken. I saw the fear in your eyes in there, and I...”
“Y/n, no. Don’t worry about me. Shuri got all of that Hydra shit out of my head. Yes, it freaked me out for a minute, but I know it’s all gone now.”
“Bucky, this isn’t trigger words they’re talking about here. Headlok can take over your mind without warning,” she cried.
“I know. And I'm scared. What if he turns us against each other? I don’t want to be in a position where I have no control. I’ve been there, and I fucking hate it. But, Y/n, I can't let that fear take over, and you can’t either,” he lifted her chin with is index finger, “I know you’ve got my back, and I've got yours. We’re prepared for this.”
“Okay,” she sighed heavily, “You’re right. Just... kiss me. In case something goes wrong... I need you to kiss me.”
Bucky leaned in for a soft kiss, quickly turning it into a needy, wanton kiss as he pulled her body tightly to his. Tongues dancing hungrily together as Y/n’s hand explored his hard chest and his soft hair.
Bucky broke the kiss, smirking.
“There’ll be plenty of time for that later. I’ve gotta finish getting dressed, doll.”
“Yeah... um... how much shit are you taking?! You have an entire arsenal on your bed.”
“Maybe you packed too light, my dear. Two guns? Do you even have a knife on you?”
“For your information, I have 17 knives on me. I’m really good at hiding them.”
“Where?! That outfit is skin tight...” he trailed off, blushing.
“4 in each boot, 2 on each thigh, 6 in my vest, and one in my cleavage.”
“Well, careful with that last one. I prefer you keep those ‘holsters’ intact for me, sweetheart.” Bucky said, pulling his shirt down and picking up his vest.
“Oh, damn!” Y/n replied, “You are a sassy one, aren’t you, Sergeant?”
“Honey, you have no idea,” he winked at her.
“Mmm, better get the rest of my gear. 10 minutes, Barnes.”
“Yes ma’am!” he replied with a smile and a smart-ass salute.

SALEM - Ch. 5
SAVED WORK
Summary: In all the centuries of your existence, you had never been dragged out of hiding by another god, put in a superhero team and forced to save the universe. But it seems your luck has run out.
______________
“I can’t believe you’re all actually considering this.” Tony started. He was sitting on the opposite side of you and Thor. Something he called “debate club 2.0”, whatever that was.
“I mean the guy tried to conquer Earth, killed a lot of people, and I’m sure has numerous other crimes to his name. Not to mention bad hair.”
Thor interrupted, “His hair has gotten better, actually. Not as… pointy.”
“Has it really though?”
“Okay, boys.” You started, “This isn’t about his hair. We need to decide whether he stays in a cell when here’s here or not. Keep in mind, either way, he stays under our protection. And even if he stays out, he’d be with me and Thor. He won’t be going anywhere.”
Steve sighed, “It doesn’t matter. He’s a criminal, he needs to be treated as one.”
Thor interrupted again, “I have reason to believe my brother was under Thanos’ influence at the time. You’ve all fought him. He’s not a kind being, even to the others you view as villains. Steve, my brother is many things. Very many things. But somewhere in there, he’s someone who actually cares about other people.”
Tony laughed, “Oh yeah, Point Break?”
“Yes. He didn’t need to help me back on Asgard, granted it took him a while to get there, but he did. He wasn’t in complete control of his actions.”
Steve sighed. “People are dead because of him.”
You were serious about this. Sure, it was partially a slight longing to just talk for hours like you used to. To be able to spend time with each other. At this point? You’d take anything.
“This team is made of second chances,” Natasha said. She stood up, walking directly in front of him. “Most of us were criminals at some point. And if he stays here, Strange and Y/n can find a way to stop him from using his abilities, we can put him right back in a cell at any time. If he’s serious and there is actually a death god trying to steal the Tesseract, I think we’re going to have to take a chance here.”
Steve slowly nodded. “As long as we have it under control, we can try.”
Toyn clapped his hands together. “Okay, sure. Let’s let the psychopath roam around my building.”
“Tony, I’m afraid you’ll have to get over it. I’m not excited either. Y/n, you and Strange get on that, Thor and Nat, why don’t you bring Loki up here. The rest of us can start figuring out what’s going on.”
You stepped out, walking down towards your own room.
***
“So your mother is Nyx? Like the goddess of the night?”
You nodded and Peter put it down in his notebook.
“I’m a goddess of magic and the goddess of darkness. I used to go by Circe.”
Peter looked slightly confused, “Isn’t Circe a daughter of Helios?”
“I suppose that’s a complicated question. Yes, in myths. But not all myths are accurate. I mean, in myth, Loki is the god of fire. Not everything is perfectly accurate, really.”
He nodded. He was sweet. In the first month of your meeting, he had practically attached himself to you and Tony. Although you weren’t as science-focused as either of them, you were still close. After so long, it meant a lot just to spend time with people. Especially people so kind, even with Tony’s extremely sarcastic personality.
“That makes sense, but my teacher probably won’t like it as much.” He laughed a bit, so did you. A moment to breathe. That’s exactly what you needed.
“Hey, Sal?” You looked at him. It was a small nickname he came up with after 2 months of you insisting he could stop calling you Ms. Salem, you hadn’t bothered to use your real last name in centuries. Too many bad memories. But eventually, he settled for Salem, and slowly he shortened it to Sal. It was nice to have someone so close to you.
“You and Loki… you’re the one that talked to him, right? Do you two know each other?”
You weren’t quite sure how to answer. Obviously, you did, and you were beyond excited to be able to talk again. You know, now that you know he didn’t actually let you die.
“Yeah, we did. A while ago.”
“How long is a while? Because Thor said you first met him in the 1800s? What was it like then? Were you and Loki actually friends?”
You laughed a bit at his curious expression. He wasn’t trying to ask too many things at once, he just really wanted to know.
“We met a few centuries ago.”
***
You sat next to the lake outside of your town on a small bench. Normally, you weren’t allowed out, but every once in a while your father spent a full day in court for some case or another. It meant you had plenty of time to go wherever you wanted in Salem.
You always chose the lake.
You closed your eyes and let the sun hit your skin, taking in the day. There weren’t many people out. With the amount of clothing most women wore, none were really up to spending summers outside, you on the other hand weren’t affected much. You supposed it was part of your mother living in the underworld, hot temperatures weren’t really a problem.
Part of you enjoyed the silence and was slightly disappointed when it was interrupted.
“Excuse me.” You let out a small sigh, turning to the man behind you. He was formally dressed, to say the least. Clearly not from the States, but to be technical, neither were you. His hair was slicked back, and he had gold around his collar. Not something you saw often, not that your father wasn’t inclined to the occasional expensive dress coat. The more you looked, the more you felt it. That sort of… power.
“What are you?” He asked.
“I apologize. It seems I don’t understand the question.”
He sat down next to you, making you move over slightly. He seemed oddly comfortable with you. Especially for someone who clearly wasn’t from Salem.
“Well, you clearly are not human, even if you look it. But I just can’t place it. So, what are you?”
That’s what it was. He was a god. Not Greek, or else it would’ve been much easier. In fact, you weren’t even sure if you’d call him a god. Normally, that implies immortality. Something you weren’t sure if he had. You sure didn’t.
“I could ask you the very same, Sir.” He laughed a bit, a light, genuine sound. It seemed that was something he didn’t do very often. At least, not really.
“The god of mischief, pleasure to meet you, Mistress…?” You laughed. Offly direct for a man you just met.
“I am most definitely not married.” You prayed to Chaos itself that he didn’t see how you moved just a bit closer to him. Ever so slightly, you saw him move too.
“Really now?” You nodded as he turned towards the lake. He was handsome, there was no doubt about that. And a full god? You had only met a few, your mother, Nyx and two of your siblings, Moros and Hemera. Your mother was a kind person, even if she was protective. Moros was exactly what you’d expect for a god of destruction. And Hemera was much too kind for her own good. Always finding some way to help, even when she really shouldn’t.
“Yes, really. I barely leave my father’s house, much less have time to spend with someone else.” He nodded.
“Something I understand all too well. But, that does still leave my question unanswered. What are you?” You smiled at him.
“I’m a demigod, a daughter of night herself.”
He looked surprised.”Night herself?”
You shook your head in confusion, “Nyx. I’m Greek. I’m going to assume you’re Norse. There are limited gods in the world and not many who would come to Earth willingly. The Norse are one of the more accepting gods when it comes to humans.”
He nodded. “You are correct there. My brother certainly likes Midgard, though we aren’t allowed to visit much.”
“My mother likes humans more than other gods. She’s probably the one person Zeus will actually leave alone. But, people don’t seem to like darkness much.”
He didn’t seem shocked by your statement. You had a lot in common.
“Midgard is interesting,” He started. “The people are… difficult to understand. But it is beautiful.”
He had a point there. The sun in your eyes proved it. The sky was melting into a soft golds and pinks, with bright oranges across it. Dark trees swayed in the distance, the static of the blowing leaves echoed in your ear. A beautiful sound. You saw the man glance at you from the corner of your eyes. Hm.
“It’s a lovely sunset. Are they all like this?” He looked towards you. Had he not been here for more than a day?
“No, not at all. They’re all different in their own ways. All beautiful.”
He smiled. “My name is Loki.”
“Circe.”
***
“So he came to Earth for a while? How long? Did he like it here?”
You laughed, “He used to. He wasn’t much of a fan of humans, but he always liked Earth. I’m not sure what happened.”
Suddenly you heard Friday’s voice in Peter’s room. “Salem, there’s an emergency meeting concerning you in the briefing room. I suggest you make your way over there as soon as you can.”
You sighed. “I’ll be back later, Peter. I can help you with that English project too.” He smiled and waved. You knew a huge part of him wanted to be at that meeting. To be a real Avenger.
“You’ll have your day, Peter.” You said, walking out of the room.
It wasn’t hard to find which meeting room they were using, the door was wide open. You walked in with Wanda, taking a seat between Thor and Bucky.
“There was another small energy spike,” Fury said. “It was enough for our agents to handle, so we sent them. But they found a problem.” Steve sat up a bit.
“Was it the woman?”
“I’m not sure if it’s better or worse, Rodgers. There’s just a sentence, written over and over again in what looks like spray paint.”
“Well? What sort of graffiti are we talking about? Just your standard gibberish?” Tony asked Fury.
Fury sighed. “No. They all just say “Doom is Rising.”

Be Your Own Hero - Steve Rogers x Reader (part 6)
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Summary: You’ve lost all your family and most friends in The Decimation. Refusing to believe their deaths are permanent, you dedicate years to find a way to reverse it. Upon finding something that might help, you search for the Avengers’ help. It’s Steve Rogers x Reader, but in reality it’s mostly Badass!Reader. Also, Non-American!Reader.
Warnings: none!
Note: Y/Co = your country. Y/Ci = your city; Y/N/L = your native language.
Previously: “As I was saying... Tony and his new team managed to build that time machine.” You and Steve exchanged glances and smiled wide. From your side, you heard Danvers say, “Let’s get it started, then.”
Part Six
Two days later
Everything was surreal. You were surrounded by heroes: Iron Man, War Machine, the Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel, Valkyrie, Nebula, Rocket, Ant-Man... And you were among them. Part of the team, with a Quantum Suit and everything. Almost an Avenger yourself.
You took a couple deep breaths and brought yourself back to reality. The team was discussing how they’d get the Stones.
“Okay”, Natasha began, paper and pencil in hand. “First Stone, Space. The Tesseract. Let’s list all occasions in which one of us came in contact with it.”
“1945″, Steve said. “It was in Red Skull’s possession. I don’t remember if it was in the plane when I crashed it, though.”
“1995″, Danvers added. “My... mentor had kind of stolen it, and a reactor with the Stone inside exploded. My powers come from the it actually. And then Goose - an alien cat, if anyone’s wondering - swallowed it.”
“Well, your cat must have puked the thing, because Loki was after it in 2012, and it was back in SHIELD’s possession″, Barton said, seemingly undisturbed by an alien cat eating an Infinity Stone. “Then Thor took it to Asgard.”
Thor nodded. He already looked a lot better than when they found him. “It remained in Odin’s vault until we fled Asgard. Loki took it for some reason and... died trying to protect it from Thanos.”
A couple ‘I’m sorry’s were heard. “I don’t know when or how dad found it in the ocean”, Stark said eventually, “but I’m 90% sure it was already in SHIELD’s hand in the 70s.”
Natasha nodded slowly. “So, 1945, the 70s, 1995, 2012 and any time period between 2013 and 2017. Anything else?” Silence. “Okay, next Stone, Time.”
“Easy”, Stark said. “Strange.”
“Not always”, you replied. “He only became its guardian in mid-2016. It belonged to a woman before then. She lived in the same New York Sanctum, though, I think.”
“So we have pre-2016 and post-2016, same place, different guardians”, Natasha said. “Reality Stone?”
Thor adjusted himself in his chair. “It possessed Jane Foster in 2013. We took her to Asgard, so if we pick a place it’s probably the safest. Lady Sif was the one responsible for getting the Stone away from Asgard after that, since the Tesseract was already in our hands. Sadly, she only told its location to Loki, and both are gone.” He glanced at Rocket.
“Thanos took from Knowhere, from the Collector, I think.”
“Asgard in 2013 and Knowhere after that, then”, Natasha said. “Next, Mind Stone.”
“Loki’s scepter from 2012 to 2015, when it was put in Vision’s head”, Stark summarized.
“That scepter was in HYDRA’s hands for quite some time, though”, Steve added. “It was how Wanda and Pietro got their powers.”
Natasha nodded. “Power Stone.”
“Morag, 2014″, Rocket said. “That’s when Quill stole it. Then we left it in Xandar for safety. Didn’t end up so well, but the Stone can be found there until... well, I wouldn’t risk 2018, so 2017.”
“Anything else? Nebula? Carol?” Both women shook their heads. “Okay. Soul Stone.”
“Vormir”, Nebula said. “It was supposedly a mystery, but Gamora somehow found out and told Thanos so he’d stop torturing me.” Her robotic face let her guilt clear.
“Thanos killed Gamora, though”, Stark added. “Didn’t he? Isn’t that why Quill punched him back in Titan?”
Nebula nodded. “Yes. Thanos took Gamora to Vormir. Came back with the Stone, without her. The Stone had been there until then.”
Natasha nodded. “Guys, I think we have a plan. There are three Stones in New York in 2012: Time, Space and Mind. Three Stones in other planets in 2014: Power in Morag, Reality in Knowhere, Soul in Vormir. Alternatively, we can travel to 2013 to get Reality instead. What do you think, guys?”
Everyone began to nod, much to your surprise. There was a fatal flaw in that plan. “Guys? Aren’t we forgetting something here? Thanos killed his daughter in Vormir and came back with the Soul Stone. Doesn’t that ring any bells?”
Rocket snorted. “Thanos didn’t care for any lives aside his own. He probably killed Gamora so she’d never tell anyone else about Vormir.”
Nebula shook her head. “Y/N has a point. Gamora was Thanos’ favorite. He never killed me, who he always despised and saw as inferior. He wouldn’t kill my sister if he didn’t deem it absolutely necessary.”
“He did say he was forced to kill her in Titan”, Stark added.
“See?”, you said. “Besides, the Stone’s named Soul. What if you need a soul to get it? That would explain all the secrecy behind its location.” You stood up. “No, there must be another way to get that one. A way that doesn’t risk lives. That’s what you said, right, Stark? We won’t risk lives.”
Stark nodded and stood up too. “Yes. I agree with Y/N. However, the only other times any of us has seen the Soul Stone are after Thanos gets it. Nebula and I saw it in Titan... that’s it!”
Everyone turned to Stark, who turned to Nebula. “Nebula, remember when we almost took the Gauntlet off Thanos’ arm?” She nodded. “If we manage to go to that specific point, we can at least get our hands on the Soul Stone, if not on the whole Gauntlet. And Strange was still in possession of the Time Stone, meaning we could just ask him. That way we don’t have to find out if getting the Soul Stone in Vormir requires sacrifice or not.”
Smiles could be seen all over the room. Banner was the first to speak after it: “Well, we shouldn’t send Stark and Nebula there, though. It might be confusing, and we can’t afford wasting time with that.”
“That’s an easy choice, honestly’, you said. “Send Danvers, Thor, Valkyrie and you there. You four have more than enough power to help the guys.”
“Lady Y/N is right”, Thor said, standing up. “I may not be in my best condition, but with Stormbreaker I can help stopping Thanos. I know exactly what to do this time.”
Valkyrie and Danvers agreed. Banner asked to stay away from the fight, and everyone conceded. The trio suited up. Stark and Nebula set the timer and described the scene they’d find. “Remember”, Stark said, “you have to get at least the Soul Stone. All the others can be safely found in other timelines, though it would save us a lot of work if you managed to get more. If possible, try to ask Strange for the Time Stone. He surely knows what we want to do with it.”
“Be safe”, you added.
“Look out for one another”, Steve added as well. You two exchanged glances.
They nodded, and Banner activated the time machine. “3... 2... 1...”, and they disappeared. After a minute, they came back, puffing. It was Danvers who spoke up first, excitedly. “We got two of them! Soul and and Reality!”
Valkyrie spoke second, huffing. “There was no way to ask the wizard for the Time Stone. Everything was a mess.”
Along with Thor, they told how they didn’t reach Quill in time to stop him punching Thanos, so it was a tough fight to get close to him. It was Danvers who got hold of the Soul Stone, while Thor grabbed the Reality Stone. Valkyrie managed to knock Thanos unconscious, allowing them to adjust their timers to get back. Strange was busy using the Time Stone to fight, so they weren’t able to get it from him.
“Well, we avoided the most complicated ones”, Natasha said. “No potential sacrifice to get the Soul Stone and no attacking Jane Foster to get the Reality Stone.”
“Damn, that one would have been awkward”, Rhodes commented. “Okay, now we need to get Space, Mind, Time and Power Stones. Do we stick to the original plan?”, he asked, looking at you.
“I don’t see why not”, you replied. “Like Natasha said, the worst part is over. By the way, Thor, Valkyrie, Danvers, you can rest. It should be easy from now on.”
Oh, how naïve you were.
.
Since they planned on getting the Space and Mind Stones mid-Battle of New York, it would be best to send the original Avengers, who knew where and when to be. Banner was voted out, thanks to his new looks, and Thor was left to rest. Natasha, Steve and Clint would go, along with Scott, whose powers could be useful. Stark and Rhodes would head to 2017 to negotiate the Time Stone with Strange, since no one knew how the previous guardian would react to them. You and Nebula would head to 2014 Morag to retrieve the Power Stone.
“I mean, when else will you be able to go to space?”, Steve said, making you smile wide. You were so excited Nebula asked for a delay for you to calm down.
Banner and Rocket would stay behind to coordinate everything. Rocket didn’t want to travel in time again, after being the one to test the machine. After a minute, you managed to get yourself back together. The eight of you gathered around the platform. Steve was responsible for the pep talk:
“Three years ago, we lost. All of us. We lost friends. We lost family. We lost a part of ourselves. Today, we have a chance to take it all back. You know your teams, you know your missions. Get the stones, get them back. One round trip each. No mistakes. No do-overs. Most of us are going somewhere we know, that doesn't mean we should know what to expect. Be careful. Look out for each other. This is the fight of our lives. And we're going to win. Whatever it takes. Good luck.”
You and Natasha smiled at him. Scott praised him, and Barton laughed for the first time since you’ve met him. “See you all in a minute”, Natasha said, excitement clear in her voice and body language.
You felt dizzy as you spiraled inside the Quantum Realm, but, before you could blink, you were already out. You found yourself in a purple desert planet, with no sign of life except for a temple-like building. It was a disappointing sight, so you simply turned to Nebula and asked, “Is the Power Stone inside that place?”
She nodded and you followed her. She pulled you to hide behind some sort of ruin. Confused, you followed her gaze to find a masked human-like being singing and dancing around with a gun.
“Do you know who he is?”, you asked. The song sounded familiar.
“Peter Quill”, she answered in a whisper. “Half-human, half-something I can’t remember. He’s the one Tony said to have punched Thanos when we heard he killed Gamora.”
“Oh”, you said. “Okay.” You kept watching. “He needs to take some dancing classes.”
“He’s an idiot”, she deadpanned.
“Oh c’mon, he’s not that bad. And his taste in music is good.”
Nebula rolled her eyes at you and stood up. “We can’t wait on him forever.” That said, she shot him in the head. “He’s going to be unconscious for an hour. Let’s go.”
Relieved that the poor guy wasn’t dead, you followed her inside the building. The Power Stone was in the center, covered by an orb-thing, on some sort of alter, with no protection whatsoever. “Are you sure we’re not walking into a trap?”
“Quill took the Stone effortlessly. All he had to face was some Krees.” As she said that, Nebula walked straight to the altar and extended her hand to grab the orb. Her cibenetic arm burned, but she managed to grab the orb before it fell apart. You two looked at each other in the eye. “I wasn’t always like this”, she offered, as if the sight of her arm was something to fear.
“We live with what we’ve got, I guess”, you replied, smiling. “I hope you didn’t feel pain, at least.”
“Pain distracts you from battle”, she said. “Thanos only allowed me to feel pain if he was the one inflicting it, so... no, I didn’t feel pain.”
“Sounds like a comfort to me.”
She didn’t answer, but you could see a ghost of a smile in her lips. She placed the orb in her pocket and you two suited up again. “Okay”, you said, “3... 2-”
You interrupted yourself as Nebula fell on ground, looking like she was convulsing. You heard the Pym Particle bottle from her suit break. “Nebula!”, you shouted as you reached her, kneeling before your teammate. “Are you okay?”
As if answering your question, her cibernetic eye projected something. It was Nebula herself, standing by Thanos’ side, with another female-like alien. “Gamora”, you heard your Nebula say.
The conversation between the three was clear: they knew Future Nebula was there and had time traveled. Also that she wasn’t on Thanos side anymore. They wanted to get her.
“This is not a live projection”, Nebula said, standing up. You stood up as well. “They must be already on their way here.”
“Then switch your timer with mine”, you replied. Nebula turned to you with wide eyes. “You can’t be taken, Nebula. What if they send past you to fool our friends? If anyone is kidnapped, it’s got to be me.”
“I can’t let you fall into his hands. You will die.”
“So will you!”, you shouted. “My mission is done, Nebula. I did everything I could to bring my family back. But yours isn’t. Go back with the Stone and make our wish.” A huge noise was heard. “They’re here, aren’t they?” Nebula nodded. You took your timer off and gave it to her. “Go!”
Reluctantly, she took it and gave her broken timer to you. “I’ll come back for you, Y/N. We don’t risk lives.”
“Bring everyone back first”, you screamed, trying to be heard in the midst of the noise. Someone was entering the temple. “Only then you come back for me. Now go!”
With no hesitation this time, Nebula left. Still suited up, you grabbed a knife Natasha gave you and stabbed your new timer. It was the last thing you did before everything went black.

Cliffhanger! You thought everything would be easy? hahahahahaha
I had thought of this part long before I started writing this imagine, and it was the one I was looking forward too the most, due to the major changes made.
Part 7 won’t be told from the reader’s POV, but from Steve’s (and probably Nebula’s). We go back to reader’s POV on part 8!
Edit: I fixed a small detail on parts 6 and 7. Originally I had the Mind Stone being collected in Titan, but it was the last Stone Thanos got, on Earth. I made minor corrections so it would fit movie canon in this aspect.

Wait, are you anti Carol Danvers?
Oh good grief… I was afraid this would happen.
Okay to start this off:
1) I am not anti Carol Danvers
2) I am a woman. So please do not accuse me of being a whiny fanboy or something just because I’m daring to be even slightly critical of Carol, okay? Okay?
Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way.
I am not anti Carol in the sense that I don’t want her in the MCU. But I do not hold her up as the be-all end-all and think I that the presentation of her is incredibly flawed. On that note, I also LOATHE how the fandom worships her to the extent that she can do no wrong, and anybody who dare criticise her (or Brie) in any way is actually the Devil Incarnate™.
Issue #1: She is too young
In my opinion they should have cast a much older actress in the role, if only because her iconic romance in the comics is with RHODEY, who is played by 54-year-old Don Cheadle. But apparently Captain Marvel, the most powerful superhero, can only be played by a 25-year-old (that’s how old she was when cast).
That is honestly just as bad to me as Whedon insisting that the 26-year-old Elizabeth Olsen with her cleverly displayed cleavage was actually only 15 years old.And I adore Lizzie, even though I also have some issues with Wanda’s character (which I 1000000% blame on Whedon btw), but her supposedly being 15 in Age of Ultron was just… very infantilizing.
And I really thought Marvel would have done better than that with Captain Marvel.I really thought we were going to finally get a badass superhero who is “past her prime”, and close to (or even over) 40. (@ Marvel, please don’t let me down with Janet Van Dyne. She is my girl and I want more of her). But no. We had to get someone in her 20s.
So yes, my first major issue with Carol is she is just too young.
I would have KILLED to get Emily Blunt, Anna Torv, Lauren Cohen, or Miranda Otto in the role. Actually, if Michelle Pfieffer had been cast as Carol (even though she’s the most perfect Jan EVER) I might have died on the spot. And honestly? I’m still hoping we’ll see a grown up Monica show up played by Rutina Wesley and she’ll take over the Captain Marvel mantle on earth while Carol is off doing stuff in space. (somebody get on that please? Give me Rutina Wesley as Monica Rambeau asap).
Issue #2: and this is going to be the one that’s gonna get me a shitton of anon hate I don’t think Brie Larson was right for the role
Carol Danvers is supposed to be a very commanding and imposing presence, and while Brie is a good actress I don’t think she’s good at that. Her voice alone makes it difficult for me to take her seriously. As an audio professional who has done quite a bit of vocal work (both in performing and coaching), I can tell you that there are different ways you can use your voice, and Brie is just not using her voice effectively. If I just listen to her performance, she’s more believable in a teen romcom than as Captain Marvel. To me, she would be more believable as a superhero more akin to Tony Stark - someone who’s main superpower is his genius brain - as opposed to characters like Steve Rogers or Thor, whose superpower is physical badassery.
And there are definitely ways that women can utilize higher/lighter sounding voices in order to sound more commanding. My own voice is naturally very high and light sounding (unfortunately often even veering towards shrill), but through a lot of training I have learned how to make it sound appealing and still draw the attention of everybody in the room.
And all of that is nothing against Brie. The voice is just a tool. But unfortunately, because Brie doesn’t seem to be as proficient in using this tool as other actresses are, it’s incredibly difficult for me to find her performance believable (or to take her seriously). Maybe she could have been coached to make it better, or performed her differently. But whatever it was, it just didn’t work for me.
She also doesn’t have a lot of screen presence. She is very good at smaller, more intimate moments (my favorite Carol moment was when she saw Nick had died. It was such a small moment but I FELT that), but doesn’t have the charisma to draw the eye in larger moments like RDJ (who she is reportedly replacing as the face of the MCU) does.
Issue #3: Her powers
Now I’m not saying that I have an issue with how powerful she is. Quite the contrary. I’m all for powerful badass women.
But I am reminded of something I saw where people were criticizing Endgame because “if Carol can fly through a ship, why can’t she just ram into Thanos and kill him”?
And that is more an issue with her than with the writing. She doesn’t have to struggle with her powers. In fact the struggle in her movie was learning that she didn’t have to suppress her powers. She was made so powerful that there should never be any threat whatsoever in the MCU. And she didn’t even build up to that (like Thor did in Ragnarok and Infinity War). There was no learning curve. She just has it.
So it begs the question: why should there ever be any stakes again? If Captain Marvel is that powerful, how is there any villain that can stand a chance against her?And if the guy who literally wiped out half of all life in the universe is less powerful than her, and I doubt they’re going to repeat the brainwashing plot, how is she going to have any villains in any of her future movies? If she’s that powerful, any movie that she’s in should be over in five minutes.
Name one MCU villain who is more powerful than Thanos, and I guess I might find that person a believable villain for her to go up against. But as it stands, I don’t see how they will ever be able to do interesting stories with her or develop her in interesting ways if there is no struggle, no learning curve, and no setbacks.
Issue #4: Fandom
Honestly? Y’all need to chill.
Stop acting as if people are sexist pigs for thinking that other characters are more powerful than Carol.Stop acting as if people are sexist pigs for not liking Carol.Stop acting as if people are sexist pigs if they have issues with how her movie was written, how her character was written, or how her character was performed.Stop acting as if people are sexist pigs if they think that the guy who wiped out half the universe (and was about to wipe out the entire universe) is more powerful than she is.
You can disagree with people all you want, but the instant you start belittling people or calling them sexist pigs for having those opinions I personally stop wanting anything to do with you. (wow. what a horrible threat. I have such a high opinion of myself that I think you all will change your opinions if I say I want nothing to do with you. Clearly I need to take several seats)
And on that note, I am going to wait for a bunch of hate mail to start coming in.And for a lot of blogs to start blocking me because, even as a woman, I have been informed that I am not allowed to dislike Carol Danvers in any way shape or form.
Ciao!

so my thoughts on endgame
yes this does contain spoilers and yes, i will continue to tag any of my spoilers as “endgame”
did i hate the movie? no. it had many very good moments that i will list before i list the problems i had with it
i LOVED all of the humor like they did that so well. like when steve was fighting his younger self and young steve says “i can do this all day” and now steve goes “yeah i know” in this just tired voice. and americas ass. and all of the jokes about rocket being a raccoon. and hulk taking pictures with the kids and then when rocket and hulk were sitting in the back of the truck. when tony threatened to sell all of morgans toys. korg playing fortnite. the whole scott coming back the wrong age bit. hulk having to walk down the stairs. when tony told steve that if he dropped the shield one more time he was gonna keep it. like there were so many parts that were just so funny and i loved it.
i loved all the tender moments. that little moment of friendship between nat and steve where she calls the avengers her family. i was SOBBING when tonys daughter was revealed and at literally every interaction between them. the fact that tony wasnt even going to build the time machine until he saw peters picture and thw fact that he had peters picture at all. tony telling nebula “you won” and her freezing bc shes probably never heard that before. the fact that both nat and clint refused to let the other one die (which was the truest form of love i have ever seen, not romantic but just genuine platonic love. also not that bullshit thanos called love for the very same stone). the moment when clint was looking around for his family and couldnt find them so he was just running back and forth not knowing what to do. im not even going to mention tony and peter’s reunion or goodbye because i was sobbing like a child the entire time. quill thinking for a second that gamora was back. when pepper told tony “we’re going to be okay” and you think she means the world and humanity but she really means her and morgan. the entire interaction between tony and his dad. there were so so many parts that just hit me so hard.
i loved all the heroic parts. carol showing up outside the ship with tony and nebula. steve standing up with his shredded sheild, still fighting on. the fact that steve can fUCKING WEILD THORS HAMMER LIKE BRUH. also that sick combo he did with the sheild and the hammer. the hail hydra moment because steve is so incredibly smart and knows how to work a situation. all of those bad ass women gathering to fucking destroy thanos. the circle opening up and revealing tchalla and shuri and okoye walking out, silhoutted by the light and the wakandan battle cry. the fact that the canons recognized that carol was the largest threat around and firing at the atmosphere to try and stop her and she just fucking rips through them like nothing. carol beating the shit out of thanos and him having to literally hold the power stone in his hand to beat her. that moment where you see all of the heros lined up ready to fight. “i am iron man”.
obviously there are more of every moment, and i loved all of them.
but.
that doesnt mean that i liked the movie. and heres why:
1) thor’s literal character assassination. i reblogged a few posts (that you can find in my endgame tag) that explain this better than i will be able to but bruh. the russo brothers did thor so fucking dirty and it makes me pissed. they made him fat purely for the laughs (which someone pointed out an emphasis on the fact that they literally edited his weight out of the trailers because they wanted to use it as a gag in the movies). also, they blatently ignored and made fun of the fact that thor OBVIOUSLY was grieving and blamed himself for how things had turned out. he has lost literally everything in his life: his home, his father and mother, his brother, his best friend - and now the man who wiped out half of the human population taunted him with his mistake of not going for the head. also, thor literally just went through the whole process of realizing his true power and sacrifing his home in order to protect his people and youre going to tell me that he just decides “mmm imma go to space and leave you all here youre fine without me” like no. also please read this post it makes me so mad its so true.
2) the whole time travel plot. to me it didnt seem well thought out and it leaves so many plot holes. like if removing a stone can create another timeline, i dont think putting the stone back fixes anything. you have still technically created another time line. and like what happened to loki we saw him disappear wouldnt that be another time line??? and like if 2012 or 2014 or whatever thanos came to the present, then wouldnt that create another time line?????? and if steve stayed behind, then thats a whole other time line. like it just doesnt make sense there are so many things that do. not. work. (sidenote: thanos said the infinity stones were reduced to atoms. wouldnt that be reversable by scott and shrinking down into the quantum realm??? this is just an idea)
3) it was predictable. there were SO many times that i was able to tell what was going to happen before it did. like clints family vanishing. and scott finding an older cassie. and scott being turned into a bunch of different ages. and tony saying no and then saying yes. even tony weilding the gauntlet was predictable (i just refused to think about it bc i didnt want to see tony die).
4) steve staying in the past. now im going to preface this saying that im not trying to say that steve didnt deserve it. he did and im happy for him (since this is what the russo brothers have decided to make permanent). steve did deserve happiness and i will even say that he deserved peggy. but. that doesnt mean thats what he should have done. it was out of character for steve (not as bad as thor but still out of character). he would have recognized that the world needed him in the now and he wouldnt have been able to just stay in the past. like steve’s biggest character flaw is that he cant just sit by and do nothing, he always has to act. so now out of no where he just decides that hes gonna screw over everyone in the present and stay behind. like he knows they just lost tony AND nat, two of the og avengers, and hes just gonna decide to leave them hanging without another person???? and hes just going to sit by knowing that bucky is out there being tortured??? ALSO i am absolutely not saying that any part of his talk with sam was unnecessary. i even love the fact that he gave the sheild to sam (black captain america is my shIT HELL YES I AM HERE FOR IT). but. there is no way that steve “even when there was nothing i had bucky” rogers wouldnt say anything to bucky. and i saw someone saying “well they obviously talked off screen” bitch i dont care there are probably thousands of off screen things that happen and thats why we have fanfiction. but the on screen stuff matters and steve just ignores bucky entirely?????? no he fucking doesnt the russo brothers are just afraid to encourage any more interaction between steve and bucky because they fear stucky fans. and im not even saying this as a stucky fan im literally saying it as a marvel fan who knows the smallest amount of steve’s character.
5) tony creating his worst nightmare. tony has said multiple times that he blamed his dad for leaving him and it only makes sense that he would fear having a kid and then leaving them alone. and the russo brothers did just that. they gave tony the life he always wanted and then ripped him from it, creating tonys nightmare at the same time. he has now subjected morgan to live a life like he did, without a father. now personally i dont think tony should have died. did i predict that he was since infinity war (bc of rdj’s contract ending and also it will be very difficult to continue the “next generation” with these huge figures still around), yes. and i know that its unrealistic for everyone to survive in war but so is fucking time travel and they pulled that card. idk i just dont like how they did it.
so overall, i think i loved a lot of the overall moments on film, its just that i didnt like the themes, messages, and character delieveries shown in the movie. im just gonna go watch winter soldier and ragnarok and homecoming and captain marvel and black panther and all the other Actually Good marvel movies.

The Master and The God (part 10)
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 / Part 6 / Part 7 / Part 8 / Part 9
A/N: Hello everyone! I just wanted to thank everyone that is reading and enjoying this story! I’ve been having a great time writing it! I just wanted to tell say that I’m meeting Tom Hiddleston in January at ACE comic con here in AZ and I’ve got a photo op! I’m so excited so it you have any pose suggestions I would love to hear them, I have no ideas yet!
In the last chapter... You returned to Loki’s room after talking with Infinity so he can start telling you what led him down the path to the Battle of New York. He explained his side of what happened before falling from the bridge (essentially Thor 1 happenings from his POV) and you find out that Odin has a private library where there is information that is different form Asgardian public knowledge or unknown to them entirely. Only the King and Queen, or beings just as, if not more powerful, can see that anything is in these books, but you can read them.
Tumblr media
The next morning you woke up much later than you expected to, late enough that Frigga actually came to your room to wake you up. She claimed she was worried you were unwell, but you had a feeling she was worried that yesterday’s meeting with Infinity might have been too overwhelming for you to take in.
“I’m fine,” you assured her, “After I left the Bifrost I headed back to Loki’s room and we talked for too long so I didn’t get to bed until quite late.”
“So… He knows?” Frigga questioned. “I’m sure he had no qualms with this arrangement.”
“Actually, he did most of the talking yesterday. He’s finally opening up about what happened,” you told her.
“Well that is a big step for Loki, but Y/n… I know Infinity told you not to tell anyone about what the two of you had discussed and what you know now, but Loki is involved as well. He deserves to know the truth, or at least some of the truth.” Frigga advised.
“I know. I have a lot of things to figure out at the moment,” you said. “But first I need Loki to finish tell me what happened to him after he fell from the bridge. I know in my heart that whatever it was is connected to what Infinity is warning us about.”
Frigga didn’t know how to respond. The thought that her darling boy, Loki could have been hurt by whatever evil is coming was almost too much to handle. You could feel the anger in her strengthening her Seidr, like adding kindling to a fire.
“He was acting strange yesterday too. When I came back, he had nearly destroyed his room, books were thrown all over and the furniture was broken. I asked him what happened, but he lied. Have you ever noticed he uses his Seidr when he lies? That’s how I knew. I could feel the spark of it when he said it was just cabin fever. That’s why his silver tongue is so effective, it’s actually magic.” You explained to Frigga.
“I might know the reason for that. Actually, I might be the cause of it. I had come by to see him, after you headed to the Bifrost, to talk to him. It seems our conversation might have hit too close to home for him,” Frigga said.
“What do you mean?” You asked.
“Well, I might’ve caught him plotting and tried to open his mind to what his heart desires. I’ve always wanted the best for him, but I fear it was the wrong thing to do. He hadn’t realized these feelings himself and pointing them out him didn’t go as well as I hoped,” Frigga said. “He is rude and harsh, but it’s just to protect himself. If you give him the chance, I truly think something wonderful could blossom between you two.”
You pulled your bed sheet up over your head to hide your embarrassment. It seemed like everyone was trying to push you and Loki together. You supposed that meant it is what fate wanted, but that didn’t make it any less embarrassing to hear the mother of the guy you were interested trying to set you up. “I just don’t think right now is the right time. At a different time, under different circumstances maybe…” You mumbled through the sheet.
Frigga seemed to agree and got up, pulling the sheet off of you. “You’ve got to get up. I heard Loki pacing when I passed his room on my way here. He seems anxious. You shouldn’t keep him waiting.”
Frigga had turned on her heel to leave the room when you remembered the library last night. “Wait,” you yelled suddenly. “I wanted to ask you something, Allmother. What Infinity said about Odin being afraid of me. Is that true? Am I stronger than Odin?”
Frigga smiled softly at you, but her eyes were flooded with apprehension and fear. “Yes, Infinity and Eternity’s predictions are always right. As for being stronger than the Allfather, perhaps not right now but you will be. Does this concern you?”
“I don’t know that ‘concern’ is the right word,” you muttered. “A lot is happening right now. I’ve had a lot of revelations in the last few weeks. Is it possible to meet with the Allfather soon? I have questions I believe only he can answer.”
“I will let him know you would like to request a presence with him,” Frigga agreed as she left.
And with that you rose from the bed and got ready for the day. Within half an hour you were in front of Loki’s room, greeting the guards, and knocking on the door. To your surprise, Loki actually opened the door for you. He looked like he had gotten very little sleep. His raven hair was messier than normal and tangled in many places.
“How are you this morning Loki?” You inquired.
“Can we skip the formalities this morning?” Loki said, completely ignoring your question. “I think I’m ready to explain what happened. I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not this is a good idea for hours and I don’t want my decision to waver again.”
You were a bit taken back by the rush of words, but quickly agreed. Loki seemed like he was barely holding it together so you figured it would be better to let him tell his story however he wanted to and at whatever pace he felt comfortable with. You took a couple more steps and reached his bed, sitting down on the edge and patting the spot next to you, gesturing for Loki to join you.
Loki sat down awkwardly, fiddling with a loose thread on his sleeve. “You see, I fell and I thought I was going to die. I thought everything was over and my mother, my brother, they would all remember me for my betrayal, but I lived. I fell through a wormhole and ended up on an abandoned planet known as Titan.”
As Loki spoke you felt a cold chill run down your spine but let him continue.
“The whole planet had been abandoned. The people were killed in a terrible famine, but one man remained. His name was… his name was Th-Thanos. I found him and a small group of beings from other various worlds looking out at the ruins of the once beautiful capital city. I called out to them for help, hoping they could get me back to Asgard, but instead they took me in.”
“At first, they were very welcoming. They asked me how I ended up on Titan and I explained to them that I had tried to wipe out all of Jotunheim. That seemed to excite them. Thanos was particularly impressed with my magic skills and said I would make a powerful ally. He told me he could give me a planet to rule if I were to help him get the tesseract from Midgard, you see, he is obsessed with finding the six Infinity stones. I was very tempted and agreed with little to no question, but when I saw what he was doing to the girls he called his daughters I knew that I needed to get away from them as soon as possible.”
“What was he doing to them?” You blurted out. You didn’t mean to, but your curiosity and concern got the best of you.
“He made them fight each other and whoever lost… Thanos would have a body part replaced with machine. He claimed that enhancing them would help put them on a more even playing field and make them the strongest women in the galaxy, but the blue one, she was more than half machine already.”
You could barely believe what Loki was saying. You knew he wasn’t lying, you could feel how calm his Seidr was at the moment and you could feel the pain in his voice as he continued to recount what he had seen.
“Thanos asked me to join him and be one of the ‘Children of Thanos’. I learned from his other daughter, the green one, that all of them were picked up by Thanos at young ages from planets he traveled to. His army would round up the whole population and slaughter half of them. He would see potential in a child and decide to spare them and raise them in that unforgiving environment so they could aid him in these genocidal missions. She told me she would be trying to escape Thanos’s grasp soon and once freed she would do everything in her power to destroy him, to prevent him from destroying any other populations and collecting more children. She had asked me to help her. I refused because I knew I needed to make a break for it sooner than she could manage. I tried to escape shortly after that talk, but Thanos caught me and took control of my mind with the scepter, the one I had brought to Earth. There is a powerful gem, an infinity stone, in it that can brainwash people. Thanos took control of me and forced me to do his bidding. It was like I was trapped inside my own body but couldn’t do anything. It was awful. I tried to fight it, the first few times it was easy, but the more it happened the deeper I was pushed and the harder I fought the more I felt like I was on the brink of insanity. It got to the point that he had such complete control over me and he thought my consciousness was buried so deep I wouldn’t be able to escape, he sent me to Midgard to take control of the planet and open a portal to allow his Chitauri army direct access to the planet. As long as I was near the scepter it could keep me under his control and render me powerless. I began to lose hope of ever being freed when I suddenly was able to regain some control. It was small at first, but I realized that while I let Dr. Selvig study the scepter and work on the portal I was growing stronger again. I was away from the scepter for long enough I was able to break free. After that point when I had to hold the scepter it was a fight over who was in control over me, Thanos or myself. I considered stopping everything and fleeing back to Asgard somehow, but I knew if I left, Thanos and his children would come to Midgard instead and that is a fight your people are not prepared for.”
Loki stopped speaking for a moment so you moved closer to him, grabbed his hand, and just held it. You felt his Seidr spark again but ignored it because you were too shocked by what he had just told you. “So, you became the villain to protect Earth?” You clarified.
“I didn’t want to hurt all those people. You were right,” Loki struggled to say. He eyes were squeezed shut like he was being forced to relive the moments in his head and couldn’t stop it. “Back on the tower, when you said that this was more than mischief. I did all of that for the promise of a throne, I’m awful.”
“No, you’re not,” you told him. He turned and looked at you incredulously. “You feel regret. That proves you’re not awful. Hell, you told me how to stop the portal back then. You had some bad things happen to you and your whole life was flipped on its head. You were put in a terrible situation and had to survive a madman. You fought it the best you could, but even you are not strong enough to defeat an infinity stone alone Loki.”
You maneuvered Loki’s body so he was now lying down on his side on the bed. You sat down next to him, facing his back. “You need rest,” you explained when he tried to move. “You put yourself through a lot of stress in your explanation, let me help you.” As you spoke you moved your hands and created a small mandala of dimensional energy meant to calm Loki down and relax his mind. Once the spell was complete you held it over his head until his eyes drifted shut and he was fast asleep.
It was a simple healing charm, meant to rejuvenate the mind. You knew Loki would be asleep for a few hours so you decided to take this chance to meditate and hopefully find an answer to the growing number of questions you now had.
When you meditated you liked to have something to ground you. This always confused the ancient one, who tried to teach you to meditate by emptying your mind and disconnecting yourself from the world, but that never worked for you. And after the Ancient one had to force you back into your body because you were drifting away, she understood why emptying yourself wasn’t going to work for you. You needed something to ground you or your mind would wander too far away. You would sometime play Tibetan monk throat singing, that Wong had introduced you to, but when you couldn’t use headphones you would braid yarn or wind it around your fingers.
You looked around the room in hopes of finding something suitable to toy with but found nothing. You looked back at Loki and noticed again how tangled his hair was so you decided to do him a favor and fix it for him while you meditated. It’s nothing more than that, you swore to yourself as you started running your fingers through it, working through the knots as you closed your eyes and emptied your mind.
You meditated for a few hours before Loki began to stir. In that time, you had a vision that compelled you to contact Nick Fury as soon as possible. You were also able to take a step back and analyze the situation more clearly. Thinking back on Loki’s story you realized that at first, his seidr was calm but as he continued you realized that his fire grew more turbulent and, in the moment, you thought it was because of the emotional stress he was going through while retelling what happened to him. However, when you took a step back and reflected on everything you realized that something wasn’t adding up.
Could Loki really have given up his ambition for the throne so easily. Would he really care more about a planet of people he didn’t know more than he does about himself? He might not be evil, but he is kind of egocentric and self-serving. You decided it would be best to confront Loki about that and then try and explain what happened with Infinity without giving to much detail away.
“Y/n?” Loki said groggily, “How long was I asleep for?”
“A few hours I think,” you replied. You looked down at him. His eyes barely open, trying to adjust to the light shining in through the window. You saw that his hair seemed to be untangled and you’d even began twisting the hair different types of braids while you meditated.
“That was the best rest I’ve ever gotten. You must teach me how to do that.”
You snickered, “It’s a mystic arts thing. I don’t know if you could handle it.” Loki faked offense at that, but you continued talking before he could say anything. “So about earlier… was that story one hundred percent honest?”
“Why do you ask?” Loki said cryptically.
“While you slept, I was meditating. You could say it was enlightening and I realized I misread you. Your seidr shifted and what I thought was pain, I now believe was a lie. You still want a throne,” you accused. “I know what makes your silver tongue so successful.”
“You’re so smart darling,” Loki said smugly, “I did lie a bit. If things had gone as Thanos had planned and I had ended up being named King of your world I wouldn’t have been opposed. Is it really such a bad thing though? Being king was supposed to be my birthright. I was raised and groomed for rule. I believe I would have made a very fair king.”
“Of course, you do, but that was all in past tense, ‘was’, ‘would have’. You’ve given up?” you asked.
“For the moment yes. My first priority currently should be getting out of this prison sentence, is it not?” Loki said simply. He went to run a hand through his hair and felt one of the braids. He looked at you, confusion written on his face. “Did you… braid my hair while I was asleep?”
“While you were sleeping, I was meditating. I normally twist rope or listen to music while I meditate, it helps ground me so I don’t get too lost inside my own mind.”
“I see,” Loki said as he stretched and got off the bed. You watched him walk over to his desk and open a small chest on it. “Do you often get lost in your own mind?”
You weren’t sure if that was supposed sound insulting or not but you answered anyway. “When I first arrived at Kamar-Taj and was new to the Mystic Arts when I mediated too deeply it was like my astral form would float off and I had a lot of trouble breaking the trance like state I was in and finding my body again, so the Ancient One suggested grounding methods.” You had looked down at your hands as you spoke, but when you looked back to observe Loki’s reaction you saw that he was tying the braids with small pieces of leather, adding a bead with ancient runes on them to one.
Loki returned to the bed, this time just sitting down cross-legged opposite you. You leaned closer and grabbed the braid with the bead on it and saw that the rune was the first letter of your name. It could have been a coincidence, but you had a feeling it wasn’t. It did amuse you that Loki was acting like a, 8th grade girl with a crush though. This seems like a good time to explain what has been going on, you thought to yourself before taking a deep breath.
“Loki, I believe it is my turn to tell you something,” You started, your voice sounding a lot calmer than you actually felt.
“Ah yes, I almost forgot! What happened to you at the Bifrost, Lady Y/n? What did Heimdall call you for?”
“Well I wasn’t called by Heimdall. Well actually he was the one who called for me, yes. But he wasn’t who needed to see me,” you said, aware you were rambling. You mentally cursed yourself for not just being able to say it outright. Loki raised an eyebrow at you, but stayed silent, expecting you to continue. “It was actually an old friend of your mother’s, kind of. Apparently, word has gotten around the galaxy that Asgard is housing a human who can master the Seidr and she came to see for herself. Her name is Infinity, she is a cosmic entity who has some bidding to do on Earth. She’s offered me something in return for taking care of it for her.”
“Wait, a cosmic entity?” Loki asked for clarification. “What can you manage that a comic entity can’t? What can you help her with that she can’t do herself?”
That question had been floating through you mind as well. You had some inklings of why you would have been chosen, “Well I am kind of an oddity aren’t I? A human allowed to be on Asgard, one who has magic known by few on Earth and the Seidr. They might even think I’m some kind prophecy for all I know. I also know Earth rather well and can go between the two worlds as I please.” You realized you were starting to sound defensive so you tried to just change the subject back to the real topic at hand. “Whatever the reason is, she wanted my help and offered me a couple very generous gifts in return. She made me a master of the Seidr. I still need to learn spells and such, but the power I have access to is greater than what I could have managed even after years of learning at your mother’s side.”
“That explains why you were so different when you came back, you seidr was burning so much stronger. It would have been difficult to not notice,” Loki said. “That will aid you a lot in your own endeavors Lady Y/n.”
“There’s more,” you admitted. You looked down at your lap, your hands running along the soft fabric of your dress. “She claimed that giving me full access to my powers wasn’t really a gift. That was more to allow me to fulfill her requests. The gift I was given is my lifespan. Infinity suggested that allowing me to live as long as an Asgardian would be a fitting reward for what she’s asked of me and it might benefit me in more ways than just one.” You paused and looked up, meeting Loki’s eyes only to realize he had been staring at you this whole time. “Your mother may have also made the same suggestion, that this… upgrade would interest you as well?” You tried to sound sure of yourself or nonchalant. Honestly, you had no idea what tone you should when trying to ask Loki if he was interested in you now that you wouldn’t die in a couple decades. There wasn’t exactly a manual for this kind of situation.
“I know I’m the god of mischief, but this is no time for tricks,” Loki said, his voice low, almost threateningly so.
“You think I’m lying? I’m not,” you nearly shouted back. You were shocked that he would even suggest that. “Why would I lie about that?”
Loki didn’t respond to your question. You didn’t want to push him, but the silence was growing longer and longer, getting more and more awkward as it went on.
“I’m not expecting anything from you, you know.” You said, “I don’t think that just because I’m not going to die centuries before you, I suddenly have a chance with you. The Allmother is just very persistent, as I’m sure you know. She believes you are interested in me. And Infinity even thinks we might be… well suited for each other.” Hearing it out loud was very odd and unsettling. You felt your cheeks grow pink. It did seem that fate was hinting that the two of you should get together, but you were in no position to try and force Loki. Now was honestly the worst time for you to suddenly develop a love life.
“I do know how mother can be,” Loki finally said. “I, well I’m not uninterested in you. I don’t even know what I’m saying.” Loki still refused to look at you. He was now picking at his emerald green bed sheets and the realization hit you like a freight train. He is nervous. I’m making Loki, God of lies and mischief nervous.
“You know,” you said, finally building up the courage to say something, “I’m not opposed to the idea either. I know it’s weird that Frigga has been trying to…” You were racking your brain, trying to figure out what term fit the situation the two of you found yourselves in.
Loki interrupted you then, “It’s mortifying really. My mother is trying to set her fully-grown son up on a play date.”
That made you laugh, “I think she’s hoping for more than a play date Loki. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is I’m not opposed either.”
Loki was a stuttering mess as he tried to get his words out, but he finally managed it, “I do like you, but I’m locked up here. What kind of man would I be if I expected you to live your life under house arrest too?” You smiled at him, his concerns were about you and your happiness. How was this the same person who was trying to take over the Earth less than a month ago? No one else would believe it.
“My prince, I’m positive I can find a way to free you.” Loki’s eyes widened considerably. Shock written all over his face at what your suggestion meant.
“You’re going to break me out of my prison?” He asked skeptically.
“Absolutely not! Do you think I’m a criminal? I’m just going to speak with Odin and request that you’re let out, but still kept under a close watch. A parole of sorts.”
Loki chuckled at that, “you actually think he will agree to that?”
“I do,” you said confidently as you stood up, “I have a few tricks up my sleeve as well.” You knew that was a rather cryptic response to leave on, but you grabbed your cane, and walked out before Loki could say anything.

Your eyes flutter open slowly and you wince at the feeling of the cold, metal ground beneath your back. The pain from the stinging, electric shock fades when you feel a warm hand comb through your hair. As your eyes adjust to the light, you are able to make out the only face you want to see.
"Peter?" His hand freezes in your soft hair as he turns his gaze down to you.
"Hey, Y/N," he whispers. You sit up immediately and don't allow him to even take another breath before your lips are on his. His hands find your back as he pulls you in closer to him. It hasn't even been that long since you last kissed Peter, but your longing for him made it feel like a lifetime.
You break away from the kiss and take a deep breath. "You're alive," you say, smiling and wandering your eyes over every magnificent detail on his face.
Peter laughs. "Of course I'm alive! I couldn't not come back to see you, darlin’." He grabs the back of your head and pulls you in for another, quick kiss. "In all seriousness, Y/N, I really did need to come back and be with you. I thought of the life we could have here together, on the ship I promised you months ago, surrounded by our new family. I love you so much Y/N and I can't stand the thought of being away from you."
"I love you too, Peter," you respond. "Which is why you're not allowed to scare me like that anymore, okay?"
Peter nods. "I actually wouldn't have made it if it weren't for Yondu."
"Where is he?" you ask, taking a gander around the room. Peter's eyes bore into yours as they gloss over with tears. You can read the solemn expression on his face and you understand. You wrap your arms around him and soothingly rub his back. He doesn't hesitate to hug you tighter, never wanting to let you go. "No..." you mumble. "No, I...I can't believe this. I'm so sorry, Peter."
"Thank you, Y/N," he sniffles into your shoulder.
"You're gonna be okay. I promise you, everything will be okay."
"I just...I don't know what to do. Yondu always had my back and protected me, even when I betrayed him or did the wrong thing. He taught me everything I know and didn't care how many mistakes I made because he'd come back for me anyway. Who is going to look after me now?"
"I'm here," you tell him reassuringly. "I'm always going to be here and so are the rest of the Guardians. We have your back and we always will." He continues quietly sobbing and you want to take away every ounce of pain he is feeling right now. You think back to all of the times he had your back when he didn't even have to protect you. There was the first time he needed to help you get off the planet you met him on. There was also the time he couldn't help but risk his life for you out in space after the Orb was stolen. There were countless others after, as well. You owe him for the hurt he's felt and the risks he's taken.
"Y/N?"
"Yeah, Peter?"
"What should I do?" he asks. "What should I do about Yondu?"
"I think you should do what you believe he would have wanted. But, whatever you choose to do will make him proud, just like you've always made him proud," you answer, using your thumb to wipe the tears from his eyes.
He leans into your hand and grins weakly. "I think I have an idea."
Yondu's body lays on top of a table, dressed and prepared for a proper funeral. Beside him are candles that everyone helped light, as well as a beautiful assortment of flowers and the little items he kept on his dash at the flight deck. You, Peter, Drax, Gamora, Mantis, Rocket, Kraglin, and Groot gather around the table, looking down at the man you are all so grateful for today.
Peter's hand brushes slightly against yours and you take it in your own, sensing his nervousness and sadness. He squeezes your hand in gratitude for calming him down and you send a squeeze back. "I told Y/N about how when I was a kid I used to pretend David Hasselhoff was my dad." Drax and Rocket share a look of confusion. "He's a singer and actor from Earth, really famous guy," he explains, his voice low and glum. You can hear how choked up he is with the faintest glimpse of tears in his eyes. Your heart breaks for him. "Earlier, it struck me, Yondu didn't have a talking car, but he did have a flying arrow. He didn't have the beautiful voice of an angel but he did have the whistle of one. Both Yondu and David Hasselhoff went on kick-ass adventures and hooked up with hot women and fought robots. I guess David Hasselhoff did kind of end up being my dad after all. Only it was you, Yondu. I had a pretty cool dad," he says, the tears now falling down his cheeks. "What I'm trying to say here is... sometimes that thing you're searching for your whole life...it's right there by your side all along. You don't even know it."
"I am Groot."
"He did call you twig," Rocket mentions, the hurt in his voice present as he mourns for Yondu.
Gamora places a comforting hand on Peter's shoulder before walking away from the table toward the corner that Nebula was previously lurking in. You give Peter's hand one last squeeze and follow her.
"Nebula!" she exclaims, causing Nebula to stop in her tracks. "I was a child like you. I was concerned with staying alive until the next day, every day, and I never considered what Thanos was doing to you. I'm trying to make it right."
"Me too," you speak up. "I was just a kid worried about my own wellbeing when I ran away. I should have taken the two of you with me or came back once I had found a safer place for us to go. I didn't think about the consequences of what would’ve happened if I left. And for that, I'm sorry."
"There are little girls like you across the universe who are in danger. You can stay with us and help them," Gamora conveys.
"I will help them by killing Thanos," Nebula states.
"And so you shall," you tell her confidently. Knowing she will set out to find Thanos and being worried about Nebula's safety, you go and hug her. You hesitate for a second, unsure what her response will be, but you decide to do it anyway. She surprisingly returns the gesture and embraces you tightly.
Once the two of you back away, Gamora also hugs her. Nebula doesn't give in right away, but when she finally wraps her arms around Gamora, they linger for a few moments. "You will always be my sister," Gamora whispers in her ear.
After you part ways with Nebula, you make your way back over to Peter and the others. They had just finished sending Yondu away to disintegrate, waiting to release his ashes into space. You sling your arms around Peter's waist from behind him, standing there silently.
"Pete!" Kraglin voices, pulling a device from his pocket that is attached to headphones. "Captain found this for you in a junker shop. He said you'd come back to the fold someday."
Peter takes it in his hands, studying the mysterious object. "What is it?"
"It's called a Zune. It's what everybody's listening to on Earth nowadays. It's got three hundred songs on it."
Your and Peter's eyes widen and he turns around to face you. Your expressions match one another's in shock. "Three hundred songs?" Peter asks excitedly. Kraglin nods, starting to walk away. "Wait." He stops him, pulling Yondu's fixed arrow from his boot and passing it over. "Rocket grabbed the pieces and reassembled them. I think Yondu would want you to have it."
Kraglin stares at the arrow in disbelief, lip quivering as he keeps himself from crying. "Thanks...Captain."
Peter intertwines your fingers in his and drags you to his quarters. The two of you plop down on the bed. He spreads himself across the mattress, laying down and taking you with him. You rest your head on his chest, placing a hand on his lower torso to snuggle into him. He loves the warm feeling of you beside him and he never wants to be without you again.
Peter places a headphone in his ear and one in yours. You adjust it accordingly and stare at the Zune in his hands. He scrolls through the songs, reading the name's of each one until he comes to a song titled "Father and Son" by Cat Stevens. He presses play, and the slow strum of a guitar fills your ears. Groot manages to crawl up between the two of you, wanting to be there for comfort.
None of you speak, but the silence says a million unspoken words as the melody plays in the background.
It's not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to know.
"Y/N, I'm so glad I met you," Peter says, rubbing circles on your back. "I don't know where I'd be right now if I never saw you that day singing your heart out to my favorite song. I'm so happy you're here with me."
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.
You smile. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Peter. You've saved me so many times when shit went down."
I was once like you are now,
And I know that it's not easy,
To be calm when you've found something going on.
"You're right, you'd probably be dead without me saving your ass." The two of you laugh. "But I think you're the one that saved me." You peck him on the cheek at his kind words. Maybe, in a way, you and Peter saved each other. You were both so lucky to find your soulmate coincidentally on Morag that day when you've always had the whole galaxy right in front of you.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything you've got,
For you will still be here tomorrow,
But your dreams may not.
Groot taps you on the arm, causing you and Peter's attention to turn to where he is pointing. Several ships storm the starry sky outside. You furrow your brow. "Who is that?"
"Let's go find out." Peter takes you and Groot back into the main area, where you find everyone else staring out the window at the ships.
"What is it?" Drax questions.
"I sent word to Yondu's old Ravager buddies, and told them what he did," Rocket replies.
Peter gasps. "It's a Ravager funeral."
How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again,
It's always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen,
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away,
I know I have to go.
You all watch as the hundreds of Ravager ships send out fireworks that illuminate the dark space. Every color in the rainbow and beyond shines brightly, creating a gorgeous show for Yondu's final send off. This is what he would have wanted, and it is certainly what he deserves.
"He didn't chase them away," Rocket mutters, standing next to you and Peter.
"No."
"Even though he yelled at them...and was always mean...and he stole batteries he didn't need."
The two of you glance down at the raccoon, understanding his worry for what all of you might think of him. "Well, of course not," Peter reassures him.
It's not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to go through.
You pass baby Groot along to Gamora who gives him to Drax. He lets out a weak yawn and falls into a peaceful sleep on Drax's shoulder. You turn next to you and stare at Peter. Right here is the man you love more than anything else in this whole damn galaxy. He's the one you didn't know you needed your entire life until you finally found him and never wanted anything else as badly. He's the one who knows your flaws and quirks and still loves you for them. He's the one you spend late nights with, bonding over every little thing you have in common. He's the one who gets your idiotic jokes and makes similar ones right back at you. He's the one you plan to spend the rest of your life with. He's the one.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.
All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.
If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them you know not me,
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away,
I know I have to go.
Peter catches you staring at him with a big, stupid smile on your face like you're so crazy in love. He returns your gaze with his classic smirk. "What?"
"I love you so much, Peter Quill." He chuckles in response, wrapping an arm around your shoulder to kiss the top of your head.
"I love you more, darlin'."
As Peter leaves his arm resting on your shoulder you snake your own arms around his waist to pull him tighter to you, never wanting to let go. There is nowhere else you'd rather be than in his arms.
You've never been happier.
You hope nothing comes along to change all of that.

Deadpool 2 (2018)
Tumblr media
So, your favorite crazy ass pansexual assassin/mercenary...antihero...whatever the fuck he is (let’s just go with fucking awesome)...has returned in Deadpool 2 ready to kick ass, take names, and make us laugh with the crudest of jokes. Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead return with him, while the X-Force, Cable, and Firefist are introduced.
Tumblr media
Before he made it to the big screen, Deadpool had a humble beginning when he first appeared in the comic book series, The New Mutants #98, cover-dated February 1991. Your girl Domino also makes her first appearance in this issue as well. The New Mutants series is a spin-off series from the X-Men franchise - it centers around a group of teenaged mutant superheroes-in-training. In issue #98, Deadpool has been hired to kill The New Mutants and Cable...such a wonderful way to meet your favorite neighborhood assassin/mercenary, right? He then began appearing as a regular character in the X-Force series and went on to make guest appearances in several Marvel comics such as The Avengers, Daredevil, and Heroes for Hire. After getting a couple of his own miniseries (The Circle Chase and Deadpool), he eventually got his own ongoing title/full series in 1997. Now this fool got two movies...he’s finally got a piece of the pie!
Tumblr media
In the 2004 comic book series Cable & Deadpool, Deadpool describes his appearance as “Ryan Reynolds crossed with a Shar-Pei.” And since 2016 (if you don’t count Ryan Reynold’s appearance as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Ryan Reynolds has taken on the task of being our beloved Deadpool and he’s pretty damn good at it. It was clearly meant to be. In Deadpool 2, starring alongside Ryan Reynolds, we have Josh Brolin as Cable (yes, that’s the same dude who did a fucking fantastic job as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War), Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Julian Dennison as Firefist, Zazie Beetz as Domino (guess who I’mma be for Halloween?), T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Stefan Kapicic as the voice of Colossus, Deadpool’s wonderful friend who puts up with all his bullshit and possible love interest/sex buddy? (I’m just saying - even Vanessa told him not to fuck Colossus when she spoke to him in the afterlife, so clearly something may be happening there).
Before we get into the pros and cons for Deadpool 2, let me just say this: I’ve seen a lot of Marvel movies lately and I gotta be honest, they have set the bar high for not only superhero movies but movies in general. At this point, even the most “average” Marvel movie is gonna have great acting, writing, and special effects. This makes it hard for a nigga like me who is trying to find something to critique when writing these reviews because who the fuck just wants to read about me fangirling over a movie (e.g. my Avengers: Infinity War post). I don’t even enjoy writing fangirl posts, which is why the one for Avengers was as short as it was. So unless Marvel starts randomly fucking up their movies for no damn reason - which I doubt is ever gonna happen - I’m not gonna have half as much to critique as usually do.
Anyway, let’s get into the pros and cons:
Pros:
From what I know about comic book Deadpool (antihero characteristics, humorous - especially crude humor, breaks the 4th wall, pansexual), the movie Deadpool appears to be a pretty accurate representation of him. They didn’t try to make him kid/family-friendly, I definitely see them playing on and/or hinting towards his pansexuality (if anything I swear he flirts with men more than women - the only woman I really see him flirt with is Vanessa), and movie Deadpool is crude as fuck. They even have movie Deadpool continue to break the 4th wall (in case you didn’t know, breaking the 4th wall is when a character is aware that they are a fictional character and may actually interact with the audience) and you can check out this Deadpool 2 trailer for an example of him breaking the 4th wall - he actually interrupts the trailer to discuss the special effects. You’re never too sure if a sequel is going to actually be just as good as the original...or good at all. Another concern is whether or not the sequel continues to build on the character while remaining true to the character’s essence/core personality and this is especially concerning when a movie is an adaptation of a comic/book. Deadpool 2, if anything, continues to emphasize Deadpool’s core personality while building upon it at the same time.
Going off of the first pro, Deadpool 2 emphasizes his core personality traits (humorous, individualistic, sexual) while attempting to give him more emotional depth. The first half of the movie has us watch Deadpool experience grief after the death of Vanessa. Even before her death, watching him interact with her and plan a family allows us to see the side of him that desires stability, commitment, and family. This first half is important because it shows us that while Deadpool is securely individualistic and doesn’t necessarily need a team like the X-Men or The Avengers, he does still desire family and companionship. It lets us know that even the Merc with a Mouth isn’t beyond the basic human desire to connect with others. In the second half, while more fast-paced and action-packed, we still get to see more of Deadpool’s sense of morality and belief in the goodness, or potential goodness of others when he fights to save young Firefist from Cable. In fact, I would say that Deadpool has an even stronger sense of morality than Colossus - Colossus was willing to leave Firefist in the hands of the headmaster even though it was pretty obvious he was being abused because he refused to play “judge, jury and executioner,” while Deadpool was so sure of how wrong it was that he started killing the orderlies immediately. We also get to see him try to form his own family with the creation of the short-lived first version of the X-Force.
Tumblr media
Ryan Reynolds was made to play Deadpool. Makes me forgive him for Green Lantern and almost makes me forget it even happened! By the way, that post-credits scene of Deadpool shooting Ryan Reynolds in the head while he holds a copy of the Green Lantern script is PURE GOLD.
Zazie Beetz does an awesome job as Domino - she makes a big impact on the audience even though she may not have as many lines or scenes as some of the other characters. The directors and writers also did a really good job of showing the audience Domino’s power of luck - a power that seems so abstract and would be believed to be difficult to display well in movie format.
Tumblr media
Cable is a character that I feel you can empathize with and who I actually kind of liked by the end. I really enjoyed how at first he was portrayed as the villain, only for things to be switched up and for us to find out the real villain was the chubby kid from New Zealand (aka Firefist).
While being hilarious and action-packed, Deadpool 2 does take the opportunity to give you something to think about if you pay attention. First, they have Firefist point out how there are no chubby superheroes. It’s no secret that our society often discriminates, shames, and is prejudice against those who are larger. In media, they are often portrayed as the butt of jokes, being romantically and sexually undesirable, lazy, unhealthy, not athletic, etc. So, is it really a surprise that there are no chubby or plus-size superheroes? I love that Firefist is not skinny or unrealistically built and that he points out how there aren’t any superheroes who look like him (Fun Fact: In the comics, Firefist is a white, skinny, blonde kid from Tulsa, OK, so I’m digging the changes they made - both to Firefist and Domino, whose comic book version was a woman with chalk-white skin).
Tumblr media
Second, Deadpool himself points out how the name X-Men forgets that there are female mutants in the group...this is why he chooses X-Force, a gender-neutral name for his group of superhero misfits. The language we use in a patriarchal society is often masculine - for example, we tend to say mankind instead of humankind or things like, “come on guys” to refer to an entire group of people who may not all identify as male and it’s because men are seen as the default. Deadpool’s jokes and commentary in this movie sometimes calls out societal biases that have also made their way into our comics and superhero movies and I’m here for it. Not only that, but Deadpool does not look like your typical hero - his skin is scarred and disfigured, despite him being fit and we still see him being a sexual and romantic being and I think that’s powerful when you have nothing but a bunch of super fit and conventionally attractive superheroes running around.
Tumblr media
The soundtrack for the movie is perfect and they perfectly match the songs and scenes.
All the references are so fun to pick up on - if you’re really into comic books, superhero movies, and honestly just a TV and movie junkie in general, you will love picking up on all the references they throw at you.
Cons:
So, while those references are great for TV, movie, comic book, and superhero junkies, they’re not-so-great for those who just watch movies here and there and aren’t necessarily fanatics. I’ll go as far as to say if a person isn’t really into comics, superheroes, and doesn’t really know a lot of television and movie shit...a lot of stuff is going to be lost on them. Some movies are made for everyone and some movies are made for fans or at least those with a strong interest - Deadpool 2 is one of those movies and unfortunately that may alienate other viewers/audiences.
Deadpool’s humor can be hit or miss - at times, the jokes didn’t really hit and weren’t really funny. The first half of the movie’s humor wasn’t as good as the second half of the movie. At times, I found myself laughing just because I knew I was supposed to and the humor and crudeness felt forced.
Overall, Deadpool 2 is a fun, fun movie that poses some important questions about morality and makes commentary on aspects of society. Ryan Reynolds not only starred in but was also one of the writers and producers of this movie, and his talent shines throughout the entire 1hr and 59min of it. I’m proud of him, and I’m sure Deadpool is too.

Current WIP Excerpts
inspired by @gaslightgallows, because I am vain and love validation, have a line from each of my current WIPs. with a few exceptions.
there are A Lot.
Life In Reverse
Thanos stood before them, titan in truth as well as name. Loki’s heart jumped into his throat and his thoughts briefly flashed to a shattered world, fingers tearing through his mind, screaming as his being was turned inside out. Fear froze him in place, instinctive, animal.
REMEMBER THIS COLD
Costume Porn: what it says, seriously. (Steve/Loki.)
Masquerade: Steve attends a costume ball. So does Loki.
Steve shifted nervously. “How did you know?”
“Body language,” Tony said simply. “You keep staring at him. Not that I can blame you. Guy looks unfairly good in a suit.”
“Why, thank you,” Loki said. Tony jumped, and then scowled a little.
the hills on fire for miles: The Thor: Ragnarok fic for RTC.
The woman standing in front of them was just barely illuminated by the early dawn light, but it was enough: she was hopelessly striking, lips quirked in a very faint and unpleasant smile, her eyes glittering coldly, looking from Steve to Loki.
“And you,” she said to him, “must be the youngest whelp. The failure. Which makes you…” she looked at Steve. “What does that make you?”
Attempt #432: Someone asked for the AU where one of Doom’s Loki-clones survived. It’s gonna be bad, folks.
His first memory was a silver mask with rectangles for eyes and mouth, looking down at him. “Attempt four-hundred and thirty-two,” it said, “success.”
MCU
Into the Valley of Death Rode the Six Hundred: The “Loki wins” fic where he gloats at Steve in his spare time and then ends up fighting a war on three fronts and actually asking for help with one of them.
Steve opened his eyes to find a hand over his mouth and the strong iron smell of blood filling his nose. He sucked in a sharp breath, heart hammering into motion. “Open your mouth to cry out and I will take your tongue before you can make a sound.” Loki’s voice was low and soft, but there was something ragged and breathless there as well. “Nod if you understand.”
Strange Bedfellows: The “Clint and Loki are captured and undergo TERRIBLE SUFFERING and bond, sort of” fic. Hey, people do it for Tony/Loki I don’t see why I can’t go with it my way.
Clint Barton had observed that missions tended to go wrong in one of two ways. Either it was a gradual stacking up of problems that inevitably led to total collapse no matter how hard you tried to hold on, or it was the kind of thing where you were standing in the middle of the building and the roof fell on you.
The Priesthood of Natasha Romanov: The one where Loki declares Natasha his High Priestess. She’s not really into it, though.
She tried to tell Thor about her encounter with Loki in Berlin, but the minute she got out an “I saw” her throat closed up and then she was talking about the Berlin Art Museum with some enthusiasm, despite the fact that she hadn’t gone. A few circuitous routes met with no more success, and even hints appeared to be impossible. Whatever magic fuckery Loki had worked on her, it was thorough.
important gangbang fic: Important Gangbang Fic.
The best thing about dropping in on Alfish parties was that by the time he arrived, most were too drunk to recognize him, or else too distracted to care.
so when the birds fly South: Loki gets beat up and Steve is the one to find him and I have no idea where this is going.
After months, months of thinking he’d been saved by that missile through the portal (irony of ironies) and then months more after he’d learned he had been mistaken, they’d run him to ground. He could run no further. Only turn and fight, and barely that, so little left in him.
Tear My Castle Down: The “Loki’s punishment is to be a slave to one of the Avengers but this time it’s Steve” fic.
Loki was shaking and pale, one hand braced on the doorframe, the other pulling at his collar, his chest heaving. Steve froze, mouth opening, and Loki half fell, grabbing his arm. “Captain,” he said, teeth chattering. “You need – you need to-”
which carries weight and always weighs the same: My Romanoff Big Bang fic, which is going to be a lot of “Natasha having interpersonal relationships” because I have interests.
Her training would have dictated that she fight until her last breath. That cornered, weaponless, and bleeding, she would go on fighting. Her training had told her they will try to seduce you, to steal your loyalties with grand promises. These are all lies. Of course, by the time Agent Clint Barton had her backed into a blind alley with nowhere to go, her loyalties were already for sale and she didn’t believe in anyone’s promises.
Subordination: Loki acquires his first dom, Sjofn. Shit is fun. Until it isn’t.
But he was a little tipsy, and a lot curious, and the way Sjofn was looking at him as though she wanted to devour him was making his whole body feel hot. Loki had lain with his fair share of women – and others – but feeling quite so pursued…that was new.
Just a Shadow Upon These Walls: Steve starts seeing a ghost. Steve starts seeing a ghost that is Loki. Things get weirder from there.
When Thor had left, Steve found a chair and sank down into it. Loki has been dead for almost two years. A day ago, Loki had been standing in Steve’s kitchen. How did he die? Steve should have asked, but he couldn’t have asked the question did he still have his eyes, couldn’t ask Thor that about his younger brother. His dead younger brother.
post Svartalfheim AU: depressed Loki goes to earth after TDW, starts running into Steve randomly, somehow this becomes Steve/Loki?? idk what
When Loki woke up, the first thing he felt was anger. It burned, sharp and fierce, because he had been cheated; he had died well, he had died loved, with Thor looking at him with something so much like care it had hurt worse than the wound in his chest. And once again, death spit him out, making a mockery of him. Of everything.
Thunderstorms: The sequel to “there’s a hell of a good universe next door” where Thor arrives.
“Steve,” Loki said, not looking away from Coulson, and then went on. “I could have slipped away from your clumsy trap at any time, or had your men fighting amongst themselves in the blink of an eye, or any number of more creative solutions. I could kill you with my bare hands right here, in this room, in – say – five seconds, perhaps less. I could probably even, if I had a mind, undermine your government until it fell to pieces.”
Steve made a faintly strangled sound that Loki ignored. “As you can see,” Loki said, sounding almost conversational, “I have not. And will not. I have little to no interest in involving myself in human politics. Unless I am mistaken, until today, you were unaware that I was here at all. It would be ideal for everyone if you chose to return to that state of affairs.”
forgive the children we once were: Bucky, who freed himself substantially earlier from Hydra’s control (during The Avengers), finds Loki, wounded and near death, after the events of Thor 2. Shenanigans ensue.
The stranger was still alive when Bucky got him into the apartment, though he looked like shit and Bucky had to hold his hand about an inch above his mouth to feel any breathing. Stupid, he thought. Gun's in the bedside table, just take care of it and dump the body. He half twitched toward the bedside table, but stopped at that. He still had questions. Dead bodies drew attention.
Sword Age, Wolf Age: the Ragnarok fic where things go a little differently when Thor comes back to Asgard.
“I have just saved your life and freed you and you would speak of what I owe you,” Loki said, starting away through the woods. “Such is the gratitude of the House of Odin.”
Someone to Watch Over You: Loki decides Steve needs a guardian angel. He doesn’t ask Steve about it. He also doesn’t expect to get labeled a sidekick.
Captain Steve Rogers, Loki had decided, was trying to get himself killed.
I’ll pull the devil down with me, one way or another: Thanos is coming. Loki doesn’t intend to take that lying down.
He stumbled out into Sanctuary, almost falling to his knees, and pried his hands away from the cube. His joints throbbed with the ache of the power filling him almost to bursting. He looked at it, glowing blue with swirls of light inside, and swallowed hard.
If this goes wrong, all the worlds will burn and it will be your fault.
keep your heart (close to the ground): the AU where Loki never invades, so the Avengers never form, and a depressed Steve and depressed Loki meet.
Lukas was leaning against the doorframe, one arm wrapped around his middle, blood covering half his face and dripping off his fingers. He smiled and there was blood on his teeth. “Hello,” he said. “Good. You still live here,” and listed forward. Steve, his thoughts spinning, caught him reflexively.
time may change me (but you can’t trace time): the fic where Loki tries to steal the Time Stone and gets stuck in a time loops. For some reason, it resets every time Steve dies.
“What did you do?” Rogers demanded.
“I have no idea,” Loki said. He was sitting in the sand and staring up at the sky, going over everything that had happened before this had started – everything he knew about the Time Stone and what it could do. He wasn’t getting anywhere.
Seams and Scars: Loki arrives on Midgard with his lips sewn shut.
Clint thought for sure he was going to die when he was slammed against the wall and those washed out, grey-green eyes met his. Clint’s eyes fixed on those gruesome black lines trickling blood. Stitches, he realized. He could see the knots. See the notch of a scar where one had torn through.
Who the hell does that? He remembered thinking, which was the last thought of his own he had before he set the spear to Clint’s heart and remade him in his image.
our history is coming to life again: The fic where a young Loki gets transplanted forward in time to post-The Dark World Earth. Things are not exactly going well for him.
“What happened,” Cap said, his voice tense.
“I’m dead, aren’t I,” was what came out of Loki’s mouth. And then he had to laugh, because obviously he wasn’t, he couldn’t be saying he was dead if he was dead, so he corrected, “was. I suppose.”
Temptation: Loki has a Steve problem.
Well, Loki thought. Well. It seemed his little problem was not solved after all. In fact, if anything, it was made worse. If he was going to imagine fucking Rogers every time he was trying to fight him-
Loki growled to himself. Damn him. Damn him and his beautiful eyelashes and beautiful eyes and sinfully beautiful mouth.
I know I’m the curséd one: Wanda and Loki, imprisoned for their magic, have to work together to escape.
He would not give in. Not to these. Not ever.
He would go mad (madder) first.
finding yourself at the end of the universe: The fic where Loki springs Steve from prison post Civil War, mostly out of spite, and they go on a dysfunctional road trip across space.
“Well,” said the last voice Steve had expected to hear. “That’s interesting.”
Steve’s eyes widened and he stared at Loki, struck dumb. Loki’s eyebrows quirked, gaze sweeping up and down. “Now why,” he murmured, “would they be keeping you down here with me? Have you been bad, Captain Rogers?”
Meet the Parents: Loki meets Sarah Rogers in the Roommates!AU.
“Offend her?” Steve’s eyebrows went up. “Why would you offend her?”
“Well,” Loki said, and stopped, searching for a diplomatic way to say I’m an addict, an asshole, and a bad influence without saying those precise words.
The Cold, the Dark, the Silence: It’s whump. That’s basically it.
His body was starting to fail. Loki could tell the signs of it in the way his hands shook, the chills that swept through him periodically. His healing had already been strained to the breaking point by his near death on Svartalfheim. Without food, with barely any water, the punishment his captors doled out in seemingly growing frustration was taking a toll.
the first steps stumbling forward: On Earth post-Ragnarok, Steve takes up secretly helping Asgardian refugees. There’s a familiar face among them.
“Thor said you were dead,” Rogers said.
“Thor is occasionally wrong about things,” Loki said. He didn’t particularly want to explain I was, sort of, but then I wasn’t, and then I took over Asgard and pretended to be my father for three years, which was actually very nice while it lasted.
escalated almost to an art: Yet another very dirty Loki/Grandmaster fic, where the Grandmaster experiments with drugging Loki in a variety of fun ways.
“You and me,” the Grandmaster said, reaching out and brushing his fingers along Loki’s jaw. “We’re going to have so much fun, aren’t we?”
Loki wished that didn’t sound so much like a threat.
He wished the fact that it did didn’t send a thrill down his spine.
Another Fall: Loki falls from Asgard into Hela’s prison.
“Interesting,” she said. She crouched down. “Where did you come from? The old fool sealed this place unfortunately well.” Loki coughed and choked. Her nose wrinkled. “I suppose if I want to get anything out of you I’ll need to fix you first.”
NOT MCU
Darkness, Darkness: The Morgana/Gwen fic set in “The Dark Tower.”
You should have trusted me, she thinks bitterly, as Gwen’s screams turn into sobs and Morgana’s own eyes sting. I loved you, Gwen. I loved you so much.
There’s a Lesson Here, I Just Don’t Know What It Is Yet: Still need to finish this Natasha/Yelena fic, still kicking myself over using an espionage plot, why did I do that.
“I’m on assignment,” she said blandly, rocking back on her heels, perched still too close. “And you? Still dancing for the Russian government?” Dancing. Yelena wondered if that was deliberate. After their last meeting, she’d tried learning to dance, briefly, but nothing about it had suited her.
the best all lack conviction: Fenris/Anders post Dragon Age II; they bicker, a lot, and maybe make out some too, eventually. Probably I will beat them up a lot too.
The wind blew the rain in on them again and the mage groaned, hunching his shoulders. “I hate Fereldan,” he muttered. “I truly do.”
“Perhaps you should have run to Tevinter,” Fenris said snidely. The mage gave him a baleful look but, to his surprise, did not say anything. He looked so pathetic that Fenris almost felt guilty. Almost.
Witches: Morrigan/Surana femslash fic, in which Merrin Surana would like to bang Morrigan and also become her.
She was tall as all humans were tall and carrying a staff on her back. She looked down her narrow nose at Merrin, Alistair, and the rest, air one of boredom and vague distaste. She was the most magnificent thing Merrin had ever seen.
The Interim: The fic about Morgana’s journey from dying of poison to coming back to Camelot dramatically changed and set on revenge.
She struggled to understand what was going on. To work out what had happened (he poisoned me) and what was happening now. It all hurt too much, though, and all she could do was lie there and whimper and hate how weak she felt. A cool hand pushed her hair off her brow. “It’s all right, sister. You’re safe.”
how this grace thing works: The first year at Grimglass lighthouse.
Felix up and vanished into the library the second he got the chance. He probably would’ve stayed there forever without eating if I hadn’t dragged him out sometimes for meals. He said the previous virtuer had just shoved books in wherever they fit so it’d be impossible to find anything. He dithered over a lot of ways of organizing them before settling on category and author, and then he’d mutter to himself about what category this book or that one really belonged in.

Scorpion Review (Side A)
Before I get into this review, I’d like to start off by giving you a synopsis of my history with Drake and his music.
Like a lot of Drake fans, I was introduced to Drake’s music when So Far Gone was released early in 2009.  I may have heard a few of his songs with Lil Wayne prior to that, but I binge watched a lot of Family Guy and South Park around that time so my memory for most of 2008-2010 is pretty spotty.  I really just remember chicken fights and singing pieces of shit (no, I’m not talking about Chris Brown) with random songs sprinkled throughout.  Anyway, my point is that if I did hear anything by Drake prior to So Far Gone I didn’t find it compelling enough to skim through the rest of his discography, but So Far Gone was a different beast entirely.  The production was incredible; a lot of the beats made me feel as if I was in a dream.  Drake’s lyrics were also noteworthy; as a rapper Drake has his flaws, but he has always been a technically proficient rapper who was not afraid to come across as vulnerable, and I have always respected that.  That combination is rare today, but it was nearly unheard of back in 2009; at least in the realm of mainstream hip hop.  So here we had a lyricist with a great ear for production who was even able to sing pretty well on occasion; I was all in.  I went back and downloaded Drake’s two prior mixtapes, Comeback Season, which is still great, and Room For Improvement, which is an interesting listen, but not really all that good, and played both of them dozens of times.  For a few months in 2009 I was a full-fledged Drake stan.
However, Drake had slowly started to fall out of my good graces by the time his debut album, Thank Me Later, came out in 2010.  In hindsight, I don’t really remember why.  Maybe it was the fact that he was singing too much for my taste.  I was a stereotypical hip hop head back then.  All I wanted were complex punchlines and rhyme schemes over a gritty or soulful beat and I was satisfied.  Drake definitely had his fair share of “lyrical miracle” songs, but he also started to venture into R&B territory a bit too much for my liking.  For whatever reason, I thought that his music was too “soft” and self-indulgent.  I grew up in the suburbs, so I really have no right to call anybody soft, but that’s how I felt at the time.  I definitely liked quite a few of the song that Drake was putting out, but I just didn’t view him as the guy who was going to bring “real hip hop” back to the mainstream anymore.  On Take Care, which is still probably his best album, Wheelchair Jimmy Champagne Papi The light-skinned Keith Sweat  Drake continued to toe the line between rapper and singer, and I was such a hip hop elitist that I dismissed damn near ⅓ of the album because Drake was singing too much.  I’ll save my final thoughts on that album for another day, but I certainly didn’t give that album it’s due at the time.
As Drake continued to dominate the radio with inescapable songs, he became harder to hate on.  Eventually, I accepted the fact that Drake was no longer
Survival
This is fine for an intro, but it’s a bit underwhelming when compared to Drake’s past introductions.  He even says that he doesn’t want to get ahead of himself because this is “Just the intro” when on prior opening tracks he has rapped much longer, sometimes for what felt like an eternity, and used the intro to catch us up to speed on what has been going in his life since his last album dropped.  Here he mostly treads water, bringing up the Meek Mill and Diddy beefs he was involved in over 3 years ago, although he does seem to take a few shots at Kanye.  Anyway, this was pretty good, just not as epic as I was expecting.  “My Mount Rushmore is me with four different expressions” is an all-time great Drake line, though.
Nonstop
I hate this song.  The beat is fine, but this is probably the most annoying flow and cadence that Drake has ever used.  In the second verse he starts doing this weird thing where he mumble whispers (?) the first half of each bar, then raps the second half in his regular voice, and it’s just terrible.  On top of that, the song title isn’t even accurate because I stopped this track at least six times to make sure that this was actually a song by Drake and not something from Lil Overdose’s new album.  This might be Drake’s worst song ever.
Elevate
There was literally no way this song could have been worse than Nonstop, so at least it already had that going for it.  This song still isn’t anything special, though.  I like this beat a lot, its celebratory and ominous at the same time, I imagine this is the beat Thanos heard once he got all six soul stones and snapped his finger.  Unfortunately, Drake didn’t snap on here, so we get a lot of very forgettable lines.  Girls seem to love that line about God playing favorites, though.
Emotionless
After giving Drake a pretty mundane beat for Survival, No I.D completely redeems himself here by giving Drake one of the best beats of his career; it’s so soulful.  Drake uses the first verse to take more shots at Kanye and Pusha T, and uses the second verse to make excuses about why we didn’t know he had a son until Pusha played detective.  Props to him for calling out the people who take dozens of pictures when they go on vacation for 2 days then post those pictures a month later so they can flex like they’re still vacationing, but what the hell does that have to do with us knowing you have a kid?  Your son barely even knows that you exist, so how do you expect him to know about the lives of people on social media?  The kid won’t be old enough to even understand what is on a phone for several years.  It’s a good line, but it is also really dumb, but this is hip hop, not a thesis defense, so I’ll let it slide.  Finally, a song I want to listen to again.
God’s Plan
Originally released as part of Drake’s Scary Hours EP, along with another way better song called Diplomatic Immunity,  God’s Plan quickly rocketed up the charts and became one of Drake’s most successful songs ever.  I like it, I just don’t understand why it was so popular.  Drake has released a lot of other singles that I felt were destined to be chart toppers in the past, but for whatever reason this one was way more successful.
I’m Upset
This song came out a day after Drake’s Duppy Freestyle, a track that became a bit of a footnote after Pusha T sonned him on The Story of Adidon, but still a good diss in its own right.  Duppy got a pretty warm reception when it first dropped, and I think I’m Upset initially suffered because of that.  There is a pretty stark contrast between the two songs.  Duppy has more of a classic hip hop feel, with more of an old school beat and Drake adopting a quicker flow with a lot of slick punchlines.  I’m Upset is very clearly a modern hip hop song, Drake raps over a much slower beat and gives us a lot of lines that are easy to digest and remember, the type of lines you would see under a picture on Instagram, but that isn’t such a bad thing.  While this isn’t one of Drake’s best songs by any measure, I do think it’s better than people initially gave it credit for.  Ironically, Pusha’s diss track that dropped a few days later makes this song sound better, as a lot of the first verse is clearly about his baby’s mother.
8 out of 10
Drake mentions that he likes to take things from an 8 to a 10, which sounded nice until I remembered that he once rapped about going from 0 to 100 real quick.  Now I’m left wondering if he has slowed down and abandoned his more reckless ways now that he has a baby to care for.  Anyway, upon first hearing Scorpion, this was one of my favorite songs.  However, after listening to Joe Budden’s excellent breakdown of the meaning behind a lot of these lines, I’m beginning to realize that, even though I liked this song, I didn’t really appreciate it as much as I should have.  Drake utilizes Boi 1da’s beat to take more shots at Kanye and Pusha T, but a lot of the lines are so subtle that they might fly over your head, and I mean that as a compliment.  When he wants to be, Drake really is a lyricist, and he puts that on full display in this song.  Listen to Budden’s analysis of the bridge for this song and tell me this man doesn’t care about what he writes.  This is my favorite song on this album by a pretty wide margin at this point in time.
Mob Ties
Aside from maybe Chance the Rapper, Drake is pretty much the least threatening rapper to have ever lived.  Not only does he spend like 40% of his discography crooning or crying to women, but even his public persona is that of an unabashedly a corny guy.  He is like the opposite of Doggystyle era Snoop Dogg and that’s completely fine, people love him for it, so why does he always have these random songs in which he transforms into Only Built for Cuban Linx era Raekwon and pretends to be some kind of mob boss?  We know you’re not putting hits out on people dude, just chill.  Granted, a lot of rap is built on people building up fake personas, but at least they stick to them.  Yeah Rick Ross is a liar, but the guy has always stuck to his character.  We know so much about Drake’s personal life that it’s hard for me to take any threats that he makes seriously.  Anyway, I didn’t mean to rant for so long, this song is ok.  I like this beat, but I just don’t think it was well suited for Drake, it seems more like something Migos would have picked.
Can’t Take a Joke
Lmaooooooooooo what is this flow?  Maybe this song really is a joke because this weird sing/rap flow actually made me laugh the first time I heard it.  Aside from Nonstop, this is pretty easily my least favorite song on the A side.  I’ll be skipping this one.
Sandra’s Rose
Drake finally got a beat from the legendary DJ Premier and the collaboration doesn’t disappoint, I do wish Preemo had scratched on the hook, though.  This isn’t an all-time great Premier beat, but it does the job, and so does Drake.  While there are a few pretty weak bars in here, most of the punchlines are on point, so much so that a few of them went over my head on my first listen, and Drake rides the beat well.  I wish Drake would rap over beats like these more often, my 3 favorite songs on this side have all featured soulful vocal samples.
Talk It Up
Drake and Jay-Z seem to have thrown subliminal shots at each other several times in their careers, yet Jay seems to be one of Drake’s favorite collaborators (he has appeared on 3 Drake albums, as many as Lil Wayne).  Drake has a cute little double entendre about lump sums, but aside from that his verse is pretty forgettable.  Jay fairs a little bit better, but not really. It seems like 2010 Jay usually only raps about being a boss or his past as a drug dealer, and on this track he chooses the latter.  Jay’s verse is ok, but this pretty easily the weakest of their 3 collaborations, which is a pretty impressive feat given that Jay spent his second verse on Pound Cake interpolating a Rihanna song.  This was kind of a waste of a great DJ Paul beat.
Is There More?
Drake asks the same question that I have been asking for the vast majority of this album.  I would have sworn that this was a 40 beat, but it was produced by Wallis Lane.  This is one of Drake’s better lyrical performances on the album, arguably his best.  Drake presents himself as someone who has finally made it, but is now left wondering what else there is to accomplish.  However, Drake spends a lot of this song bragging about how successful he is rather than talking about how becoming successful has left him feeling empty, so I wonder what his goal was with this song.  The title and the beat suggest that the song would be more introspective, and a few lines in the first verse are, but most of this sounds more like Drake asserting his dominance over the rap game again.  Even if the subject matter is a bit confusing, this is not a bad way to end this side.
Side B
Trash, this whole side sounds like a bootleg Jon B album.  Maybe that’s why he called it side B.
I’m just kidding!  I’ll give my thoughts on Side B soon, but that’s a lot more to write and a lot more for you guys to read, so for now I’ll stop here and give you my thoughts on Side A.  This isn’t a bad album, but it’s pretty bland.  There are a few highlights, most of which feature soul beats, but Drake sounds very uninspired on the majority of this album.  He switches up his flow every now and then, but it’s usually to his detriment, and a lot of the punchlines on here are bad or non-existent.  Drake has always had an excellent ear for production, and that remains true on this album; there isn’t a bad beat on here, I just think Drake used them wrong or wasn’t suited for them.
Swishes:  Emotionless, 8 out of 10, Sandra’s Rose
Bricks: Nonstop, Can’t Take a Joke
Overall, I’d give Side A a 6/10
