The most interesting thing to me thus far about this whole goncharov thing is that Tumblr has collectively constructed some pretty convincing side characters for this movie. Katya leaps off the page as this frustrated woman caged by her lack of autonomy, Sofia coyly plays both sides and acts above it all when really she's desperate for the same freedom Katya is. Ice Pick Joe is a less developed character who nonetheless acts as a stand in for the inescapable nature of cycles of violence. andrey, loyal to a fault, gets pulled deeper and deeper into goncharov's orbit until there's no way for him to make it out alive
and yet with all that I have ZERO sense of who goncharov is supposed to be himself. i've see a lot of stuff suggesting that the film is theoretically about loss, including the loss of one's identity, shown primarily through the way goncharov becomes unrecognizable to himself by the time of his death at the end of the film (seeing himself in a fractured mirror is a common motif). it's very interesting to me that we have a fine time coming up with a group of collective blorbos based on mafia movie tropes, but somehow the main character feels unknowable, to the degree that we had to make that one of the core themes of the film.

Watching kitten videos and thinking about temple jedi as a kind of cat colony:
kids are all sort of communal, they can be swapped around and babysat or taught by anyone
unexpected species in the kitten area
social but not terribly collaborative, they tend to hunt (go on missions) alone (or with just their padawan), rather than moving as a pack or having complex social roles
taught to theoretically be capable of independence but home is where the pile of cats and comfy window seat is
they are vibing.
semi-domestic, they're vital to the farm habitat but not really controlled by the farm. They just live here and are useful but no one owns them or makes them do anything.

Rescuing Aziraphale isn't what makes Crowley happy, not really. He doesn't want him to be in danger in the first place. He wants him safe. He wants him happy.
But he does like having an excuse to take care of him, to protect him, to dote on him in a way that's safe, acceptable and would be honestly illogical to turn away. Like Crowley walks into that church, burning his feet all the way and Aziraphale nearly shoos him away? (Because of the fight all those years ago, because he must be in league with these Nazis) But Aziraphale is in actual, real danger of being discorporated, of being sent back to heaven for who knows how long, so how can he actually reject Crowley's offer to protect him, right?
So every time Crowley does this, the whole "gallant knight swooping in to save Aziraphale from his own follies" thing, it's basically completely irrejectable, safe love Crowley can offer up to Aziraphale with no fear of rejection or overstepping the invisible line between them. Aziraphale can say "you go too fast for me, Crowley" a hundred times in so many varied ways and Crowley accepts this but he's never going to reject Crowley's love when it comes to him as a hand pulling him free of oblivion. That's what Crowley likes. Being able to love Aziraphale in a way that he knows will never be rejected.

honestly one of the most noteworthy things, imo, about the robert jordan era of wheel of time is his full stop refusal to glamorize pain. through every single character's experience in the books, he said over and over again: pain and trauma do not make you stronger, they do not make you better, they do not improve your life, and there is no one who is ~ too strong ~ to be susceptible to pain. when he showed intense hardass siuan sanche giving up information under torture, when he showed egwene controlled as a damane, when he showed rand's mental breakdown as he was subjected to more pain and torture and horrors, rj really said stop pretending suffering has moral value with his whole chest

steve ending up a single dad to a little girl but it's from one of his dads affairs and he gives steve this sob story about how her mom can't afford her or care for her but steve is so good with kids... and at first, steve is thrilled and guilty about feeling thrilled. but it's a baby. and he's still trying to take care of the kids. and he has work. and he needs time for himself. and he's trying to do it on his own.
cue wayne munson, bc eddie doesn't do well with kids- but wayne does. he takes the little girl in for mornings, sometimes babysitting her well into the evenning, so steve isn't so stressed. they split the time up between them and, with eddie keeping steve distracted when she's with wayne, steve starts to relax. he starts to enjoy parenting. especially with how she seems to hate eddie for no reason.

i do think with comics sometimes there is a difference you can tell between a writer who genuinely doesn't like the character they're writing vs a writer who likes the character so much they're jumping at the chance to write their own interpretation of the character even if they both kind of feel similar like "this writer doesn't have any respect for the character in question"

Imagine being a peircer and having Hobie come in for a lip piercing.
And it's right before closing, but you take him anyways cause you figure it'll be quick - plus he already has piercings so he's probably good with stuff like this, it'll be fine
So you get him set up and sit him down, you two are shooting the shit and getting along
But then you have to go through with it, holding his lip gently and trying to keep the needle steady as his brown eyes look up at you - his lidded gaze VERY distracting.
You have to tell him to stop smirking
You lean in closer to get a better look and he puts a hand on your leg to steady you a bit
And even as you do it, he doesn't flinch at all. His eyelids fluttering for as second at the pain as he groans
And then it's over and you're pulling away, handing him a mirror so he can see your work
Hobie smiles, the silver ring gleaming in the light as he checks it out for the first time - complimenting you on your handiwork.
He takes your card on the way out, telling you he'll be back,
Before stopping in the doorway and asking what other piercings you do - and if you have room right now for a Prince Albert appointment

Accidently cooked up a silly little au the other day that I am very much enjoying gonna. talk about it under the cut because4 the FUCKING WORMS
OKAY so basically. literally everythign is the same except for the fact that. Ed got entirely yoinked instead of Alphonse. I dunno why that happens but. It does because I say so. Anyways. So this basically mean that Ed gets bonded to an armor instead of Al, and because I desperately wanted the secondary set of Armor to see some light I thought it would be funny to bond Ed to that instead. I haven't fleshed everything out, but as I'm working on that I wanna add a few of the different things in here just because. And I still might tweak things if I think it doesn't make sense. - Al lost his arm first, then traded his tongue and his eye to bond Ed to the armor, making him effectively mute. He's learned ASL and Ed has to translate for him a lot. Although in my hcs Al is a foodie so like. major bummer for taste buds. He likes fun textures and stuff though. I gotta figure out what problems this poses though so we'll figure that out. - Al most likely is going to go into being a state alchemist just for the fact of staying somewhat close to the storyline and stuff. and I don't know, insert random reasoning in here. Yeah - just a little design note. uhmmmmm I thought the cross thing on Ed's head/helm was cool and I had the bright idea of like "hey what if I put the emblem like. through the cross yk" and I might not do that. But at the moment it looks cool to me. so yeah. I'M STILL TOYING WITH THINGS. . . I have to figure out what happens and designs and stuff. but yeah. I think that covers. what I have for now. p sick. scuttles away

"They sat on the edge of the heated indoor pool, jammies rolled up to their knees, hands almost touching, legs dangling in the water. They’d abandoned their robes and slippers on one of the poolside chairs. Ed wasn’t gonna say anything, but he was a little bit chilly without it."
