the greenlanters also changed a lot in the 90s onwards. like before parallax the rings had a No Killing limitation on them. a lot of hal's comics were just stopping invaders to earth. which caused him trouble as he was not protecting the rest of the sector. and Hal quitting after he was exiled etc etc leads to guy and john.

guy who was abused by his cop father and brother and would never have been one. john a black man again never have been a cop.

It was the Parallax retcon piled on later with the New52 that lead to the glorification of the GLs as space cops and isn't that just great how they police everyone. Sad to see comics go as a form of protest to a form of whatever bootlicking we have now

the tone deafness of modern gl comics is quite frankly one of the most embrassing spectacles i've ever seen to come out of dc. john, as you said, is a black man—a demographic that is disproportionately effected by police brutality—that was essentially conscripted into joining the corps. prior to the '05 run, he was working as an architect, but as soon as geoff took over john was retconned to have been a veteran in the middle east and was suddenly very gung-ho about trusting in the authority of the guardians. similarly, guy became a loud and proud cop in the boston area and hal, who himself was abused by his father, is uh. yeah. you know.

the human green lanterns have always been presented as bull-headed eccentrics who frequently disobey authority (which in itself could be considered a critique of how much cops are allowed to get away with so long as they get results) but they're really just bootlickers now. yes, they're still "allowed" to go against the corps but does that really matter when the narrative still presents the guardians as a rightful, all-seeing necessity? i mean goddamn its not even like these motifs are particularly hard to spot.

one is all over you all the time, always hanging off your arm, pleading for every ounce of your attention 24/7- whilst the other lurks closley behind, always watching. despite obanai’s aloofness and mitsuri’s sunny disposition, they’re both very possessive of their time with you, only truly able to bear sharing you with each other.

mitsuri's sweet as pie, but even she prickles when it seems like someone is trying to compete for your affection. maybe her handshakes are a little too firm as she waltzes up and introduces herself to this perceived threat to her relationship. and maybe she accidentally breaks a few bones in their hands, only to performatively fuss over it and apologize to save face in front of you.

the message is received and whenever you see that person, they are quick to scurry off, leaving you to wonder if you've done something wrong.

obanai is a little less confrontational, but no less threatening as his two-toned glare tears into potential suitors over your shoulder. if looks could kill, anyone that got too close wouldn't stand a chance. while mitsuri is more outspoken about her clinginess, obanai is the worst actually. you can't go anywhere without him trailing behind, keeping your hand in an iron grip or holding onto a piece of your clothing.

he's more likely to snap at people who can't catch a hint, however.

LMFAOOOOO my running joke w/ my good friend kayla is that i have a love-hate relationship with brady, like on one hand he's my punching bag because the dude lost THREE FORTS before even getting to combat (and had to take out a loan of $20 when they crash-landed in wyoming, which said crew apparently continued to tease him over for a long time) , so i love to joke that he's my failwife and gives me vibes that he CANNOT take a joke / gets insanely defensive very quickly but i cannot ignore that he rlly does something for me. like for one im Not Blind he's insanely attractive, like insanely, one of the hottest in the whole show easy. and perhaps i just have something for characters who are serious and no-bullshit and practical and seem like they could snap on you if pushed far enough , but in the same breath, genuinely look out for the ones they care for .... brady is 100% a tough love kind of guy and i like that about himmmm !!! i think he'd spit in my mouth if i asked, or maybe even if i didn't ask. and i respect him for that.
