“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Whatever happens, give thanks, because it is God’s will in Christ Jesus that you do this. —1 Thessalonians 5:16‭-‬18 (GW)
“Keep on praying my friends…even when it feels like the answer seems long in coming. Because we never truly know the full story…how God is at work in someone's life, or in our own difficult circumstances, behind the scenes where we can't fully see. Lining up our pathways, doing what only He can do. Trust Him. He's all about miracles.🌟”

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO STAY SOBER TODAY:
Tumblr media
Alcoholism and addiction ripped away years from your life, it shred relationships that were dear to you, it scattered you in so much anguish, hurled you into deep pits of despair, opportunities that you waited for for years passed you by as you were held captive by it and so many other things it did to you… In overcoming it, there are some things you should do all the way as it had no mercy in almost cutting you off all the way. The first thing you should do is pray for strength, wisdom and guidance to overcome it… God always answers persistence in prayer. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, Protect and defend and give me justice against my adversary . And for a time he would not; but later he said to himself, Though I have neither reverence or fear for God nor respect or consideration for man, Yet because this widow continues to bother me, I will defend and protect and avenge her, lest she give me intolerable annoyance and wear me out by her continual coming or at the last she come and rail on me or assault me or strangle me. Then the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says! And will not God defend and protect and avenge His elect (His chosen ones- those who desire genuinely to live sober), who cry to Him day and night? Will He defer them and delay help on their behalf? Luke 18:3‭-‬7 AMPC Be happy and rejoice and be glad-hearted continually (always); Be unceasing in prayer ; 1 Thessalonians 5:16‭-‬17 AMPC Secondly, you should see out the company of those who have overcome addiction and seek their wisdom. They will share with you insights into how to approach situations sober. We have been plagued by an impulsive behavior where we act without thinking and later we regret the consequences. Humility and hunger will protect you, will shield you and guide you as you seek out their wisdom. They will tell you to attend meetings, work the Steps, develop a relationship with the Father and so much more… As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17 NIV Third, be patient. It's a process. Don't condemn yourself when you fall… The thing you should commend yourself about is that now you are aware that you fell… Those that don't get that awareness that they are down never put in the effort to rise! Be strong, therefore, and let not your hands be weak and slack, for your work shall be rewarded . 2 Chronicles 15:7 AMPC Read the full article

I am feeling a lot of feelings today, but God is directing my steps. As He told me before, my feelings get in the way of me knowing His will and direction for my life so I'm going to try and focus on His Word today instead of mine.
Lessons for today:
- In situations where two parties have one that breaks the other with words and the other is broken, He hurts for both. Jesus hopes for both.
-> really does remind me of Elijah and I whenever we have an argument or disagreement. It's just heavy. I didn’t wanna say it that way but I just gave in to my feelings and I don't like that. That's what I'm trying to be careful with during this breakup. I really don't want to be reverting back to my older self when someone hurts me. I want to process things well. Jesus hurts for both of us anyways.
- Build each other up with words instead of tearing each other down (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
-> it's really difficult to do when the other person has hurt you. It's hard to break the cycle. Then again, I can try to empathetize and say, "he's hurt too". Sigh, God's directions can be hard to follow.
- The Lord comes like a thief in the night. His children are watchful of His return. It will not surprise us such as those who are in the dark (1 Thessalonians 5:2-6)
-> God gives us light to know His will, for His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105)
-> Children of the night are in the dark because they do not have the Lord in their life to light the way. They live not knowing what will happen. In the night, they sleep and are not alert as they should.
-> Children of the light: watchful/alert, sober
Children of the dark: sleeping, drunk
- Encourage those who work for the Lord and acknowledge their work (1 Thessolonians 5:12)
-> NLT says this specifically about leaders, to respect them
- Children of the light have a responsibility to others:
Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. (1 Thessalonians 5:14 NLT)
-> I have no excuse for being the immature one to those around me, even back then during my r/s with E to think there was lack of fairness because I was the one who is in the Lord. God calls me to take the higher road. Within this pov, he's the one who is weak and lazy in His walk. It's just hard to do this when you're in a r/s because you want the best for them, you want them in a good place in their faith but it's hard to always be nagging them about their direction and pace. It's not the kind of Christian I want to be. I guess if God really is preparing me to be with Him when he turns to the Lord, it will take a lot more maturity and growth on my end to withstand him.
- See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. (1 Thessalonians 5:15 NLT)
-> This really is the principle I try to ascribe to. I never want to continue the cycle of evil, but my feelings tempt me to do the opposite. I think it's fair to acknowledge that E has done things that have hurt me. That being said, it's not a free pass to hurt him.
- Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16‭-‬18 NLT)
-> One of my favourite verses now whenever I don't know what God's will for my life is. I just remind myself that it can be as simple as this.
- Part of spiritual growth is testing prophecies (and perhaps other things that are said to help me grow in Spirit). Keep the good ones and stay away from all evil. (1 Thessolonians 5:19-22)
-> I'm not supposed to accept things that I consume as they are, especially prophecies. That's what I've been doing right now with EGW. I really want to have an opinion for myself. There's a lot of readings to go through and I guess the next one is the Great Controversy. I feel anxious about it so I've been reading Revelation first so this is where I find out what I really believe. I think God will guide me through it. I believe He will.
Lots of lessons and directions for the day. It was a good idea to read these first so I know where to go after I let my feelings out. I've calmed down now in terms of my feelings that have resurfaced. I was feeling angry and hurt. Nevertheless, God is calling me to use my words to build others instead of tearing them down. Yesterday, God has nudged me to pray for breaking of chains for Elijah. I believe it did something, which is probably why the devil is poking through old feelings that God is telling me to let go of. Something is definitely up. Nevertheless I'll cling to the Lord and His teachings for they are correct. ALWAYS correct. Not just for Him but for others and myself as well. I pray that I can keep going this way even though it's hard.
