Thoughts on episode 10.12, no spoilers.

We continue to take baby steps in the overall plot. Barely any movement, although certainly a direction is beginning to emerge. It's yet to really grab me. It feels like they're under playing it for now. We shall see if that becomes intense. Who am I kidding, of course it's going to be. It's the finale.

So this was a Dembe backstory, and it's nice to know a little bit more about him, but I do mean a little bit. Nothing earth-shattering, nothing even terribly revealing. What we did get is something that could have easily been assumed. I feel like they could do a lot more with his backstory, but it needs to include Raymond to a much bigger degree, because that has been the core of Dembe's life.

I don't know where they intend to go with Dembe. I know I want him back with Red. The friendship between them was easily the second most important relationship in the entire show, and I think we're suffering for it not being present and explored as much as it used to be. I'm afraid they're going to go with the whole notion of setting Dembe free of Reddington- to live his own life. Logistically I don't think that makes a lot of sense. If Reddington is out, Dembe will be the first person the FBI or whoever comes after to try to get to Red. But outside of a sensible plot line, the emotional connection between these two characters has been lifeblood. I don't think Dembe really needs to be set free, he chose a life with Reddington, and he did that of his own free will and for his own reasons. I think it's an insult to Dembe and his life's choices to think that he was ever trapped with Red. He was there for love, and it was beautiful.

I don't know, if I read between the lines really hard, maybe they're suggesting in this episode that Dembe ultimately chooses Red, every time. Maybe.

I do have to say, I'm glad about the way they ended Dembe's story here. If they've gone the other way it would have been an enormous, virtually unbearable cliche. And this felt true to Dembe's character.

Agnes. Oh, Agnes. Shockingly, she was my favorite part of this episode. That last conversation between her and Cooper. Wow. I've been wondering how much Agnes is aware of what's going on in the business side of things. Apparently her area of knowledge is more to do with the personal side of things. She may just have a gift for knowing things about people that they haven't realized themselves. I'm now terribly intrigued to define what it is that she thinks her Pinky is looking for. And if he'll find it. I know what I'm hoping for.
