HORROR WEEK- FOTD #147 : zombie-ant fungus! (ophiocordyceps unilateralis)
the zombie-ant fungus is an insect-pathogenic fungus that infects & controls the muscular system of an ant. it is a member of the ophiocordycipitaceae family, & has received notoriety in popular media after inspiring parts of the hit series & game 'the last of us'. it mainly occurs in tropical forest ecosystems :-)
the big question : will it kill me??
only if you're an ant :-) if you're an ant, the fungus will take control of your body - not your mind, as is commonly falsely believed - force you to climb about a foot off the ground into a tree, latch your jaw into a "death grip" on the vein of a leaf, & sprout from your body !! you will be eaten from the inside.

PM -147- July 25 - Hallway
@prongsfoot-microfic
After being held back by McGonagall, Sirius hears James and Snape going at it in the Hallway.
A03
***
Sirius didn’t like being held back in class, especially not McGonagall’s class. Largely because he’s not sure how to take her ‘trying to care’ attitude when she didn’t care for him before he ran away from home. It’s as if having caring parents in Effie and Monty had somehow gotten McGonagall to care.
Either way, he manages to avoid saying anything because there’s a huge commotion in the hallway, and they rush out to deal with it.
Naturally, it’s James and Snape because of course it is. The bloody wanker doesn’t know how to keep away from Sirius’ boyfriend, and James never hesitates to fight back. Especially when he’s usually the winner.
This time, however, it’s clear Snape planned the attack because Avery is coming up behind James looking for his shot, and its only Sirius’ quick thinking that protected James and gets Avery without his wand. Distracted by Sirius’ disrupting of his plans, Snape loses his wand to James. Thus, winning the fight.
Of course, it doesn’t matter because they all get into trouble for it, but at least James is safe. That’s what matters.
