After word that Neil's dog (who is the bestest boy) had heard some news, I went to bed with "There's Only One More Sleep Till Christmas" playing in my head.

This morning I woke up just after 6 (my alarm is set for 7:30) and ran to Tumblr because if there was any news, you all would surely tell me first.

i cant tell if this is sarcastic or not -- but i listed my top ten (not joking) taylor songs here and since you mentioned ME! im going to use this as an opportunity to be a hater. so here is a list 5 of my least favorite taylor swift songs that i wish i could erase from my brain:

you need to calm down. needs no further explanation, that song sucks ass. in my opinion its worse than ME!

i forgot that you existed. absolute garbage. like so much of taylor's songs that i hate, is more concerned with the real life drama and setting up a narrative than it is with being a good song. vocal delivery and production both sound lazy. it was an insane choice to open lover with this song, it sucks so bad, i hate it

so it goes. imo her most boring song and i think she agrees bc she didnt even play it on the rep tour. i posted a comment on reddit saying that once and got downvoted like crazy and i was like youre all lying to yourselves that song sucks

bejeweled. if bejeweled has one hater its me. i despise that song. the hook is so dumb and who allowed the sentence "familiarity breeds contempt dont put me in the basement when i want the penthouse of your heart" to be put to track. like enough of the mixed metaphors taylor. just say "set me free" or something and move on. and the stupid little repetitive synth on the chorus just grates on my nerves. ugh that song sucks. imo worse than vigilante shit even though that song sucks too.

suburban legends. hate everything about it, from the insane plastic summer line to the dumb title (its a bad attempt at a taylor swift "twist on a popular idiom" -- like that isnt even what urban legends means. its so dumb) to the insane wordiness of every line that just makes me doubt that it was actually written during 1989 era (like most 1989 era songs are ... simply not that wordy or obsessed with like 10 different mixed metaphors. taylor didnt really get that wordy until post folklore and i just think the 1989 vault (save for say dont go) is NOT actually from that era there i said it) anyway ya suburban legends haunts me god i hate that song

honorary mention for slut! also, because 1) it also sucks 2) there is no way she actually considered releasing THAT instead of blank space and that was such a bald faced lie i couldnt believe people bought it and 3) clink clink? be so fucking for real with me right now.

i find it a bit strange how for years swifties and taylor swift herself made such a humongous deal about how great and unique it is that taylor swift writes all her own songs and back in the day, as a younger person who was a casual listener, i always found that talking point a bit strange cos so many of my other fav artists like taylor momsen from the pretty reckless and Lorde and honestly an endless list of musicians, who all started writing as teenagers (and subjectively, better songs and more complex themes too mind you) and none of them make as big of a deal about this as taylor swift does??! Like it's not that uncommon to write your own songs and there are ppl infinitely more talented than you out there who never get the chance you got because they are very often a lot more poor and/or marginalised than your rich white cishet ass.

Okay I made this to represent a specific event but then I thought about it and realized that more generally soeaking this actually sums the exact dynamic I have with my fourth grade girls.

I road the bus with [name redacted for privacy reasons] who is the apple of my eye #my incredible little girl who I have known for a year who I just adore. #I was taking the bus with her and she saw there was a security camera and asked about it. and it was like a 30 minute bus ride we had time #and I often will teach her about things I’m interested in even if they’re like. advanced right #so I was like alright have you ever heard of a man named Foucault? #i took the next 15 minutes to explain to her about who Foucault was and his essay about the panopticon and what that meant #described was a panopticon was described why he was talking about it talked about how that applies to us now #about how the police state is increasingly harnessing more and more technology to create an era of surveillance hitherto unknown of #and how this helps enforce the status quo etc. #she listened intently. nodding along thoughtfully. she quietly thought about it longer. #the whole time. GLOWERING. which is her response to everything. #I’m like. it’s interesting right? trying to prompt her to say what she was thinking. #instead of responding she just turns to the security camera at the front of the bus and very carefully puts up her middle finger #and then mouths ‘fuck. you.’ #I could not be prouder of her but this is also just how all our conversations go #no matter if it’s about tattoos or Ancient Greek tragedy or Taylor swift.

i think taylor won't be able to grow as an artist because right now there's to types of reviews: people who hate her and therefore think she has never done anything of value that she has always sucked and always will and people who love her and will praise absolutely everything she puts out, no matter the quality. like there's just no one writing objective and nuanced reviews about her music and its really sad lol

The fact that Taylor has released the same amount of albums under Universal/Republic in less than half the time when she was with Big Machine, really makes me wonder about all of the potential things she could’ve done if instead of having to fight tooth and nail for everything, they had granted her more creative freedom and trusted her.
