El terremoto de México de 1985 tuvo lugar el jueves, 19 de septiembre de dicho año. Inició a las 07:17 am hora local. Duró 2 minutos, y alcanzó una magnitud Mw = 8.1

Ha sido el más significativo y dañino en la historia escrita de los movimientos telúricos del país y de su capital, y superó en intensidad y en daños al registrado en 1957, que hasta entonces había sido el más notable en la ciudad.​ La réplica acontecida un día después, la noche del 20 de septiembre, también tuvo gran repercusión para la capital al colapsar estructuras reblandecidas un día antes.

El número preciso de muertos, heridos y daños materiales nunca se conoció con precisión. En cuanto a las personas fallecidas, sólo existen estimaciones: la cifra oficial fue 3192. Sin embargo, la mayoría de los conteos o estimaciones rondan entre los 10 mil muertos.

La incomunicación en la que se encontraba la capital del país, provocó que algunos medios internacionales incluso manejaran la información de que la Ciudad de México había desaparecido por completo.

A pesar de que la comunidad internacional inmediatamente le ofreció ayuda a México, De la Madrid la rechazó pues no la consideraba necesaria y prohibió la participación militar en maniobras de rescate. Tiempo después debió retractarse y aceptar la ayuda que generosamente llegó de todas las regiones del planeta.

Este acontecimiento mostró la enorme solidaridad de la población. Gente de toda clase salió disciplinadamente a las calles para ayudar en la medida de sus posibilidades: moviendo escombros en busca de víctimas atrapadas, preparando comida, donando medicinas, trasladando heridos en autos particulares. Esos días los mexicanos supieron que si el gobierno no cumplía con su obligación, basta la voluntad del pueblo para levantarse del peor de los infiernos.

Esta tragedia hizo que se modificaran los lineamientos y reglamentos de construcción en México, además de que poco a poco cambió la cultura cívica y de protección civil.

Hipótesis empírica que deja sobre la mesa un mexicano agobiado por tanta coincidencia.

 «Me resisto aceptar que es cosa del azar», anotó contrariado el hombre de la última fila que siempre, hasta ahora, había permanecido callado.

«La primera vez, bueno... era impredecible, un capricho de la Tierra que eligió porque sí la fecha; la segunda ya ofrecía ciertas sospechas. Tomar como cosa cualquiera que tiemble dos veces precisamente el mismo día del año fue mucho pedir. Una tercera vez es insoportable. Había guardado hasta ahora mis investigaciones pensando en que quizá se tomarían como algo descabellado, las ideas de un loco sin quehacer. Sin embargo, me he armado de valor y ahora las ofrezco desinteresadamente poniendo como única condición que se reconozca la primicia de esta hipótesis que estoy seguro dentro de poco tiempo será retomada por algún astrofísico profesional, visionario y de avanzada.

«Es algo tan sencillo que quizá por eso mismo pasa desapercibido tanto para la UNAM (hoy mismo salió a decir que es pura coincidencia, que no hay que buscar explicaciones adicionales), como para la población en general. Sólo una que otra persona ha mostrado una seria inquietud al respecto, no conforme con esa vaga y conformista explicación de atribuir el fenómeno a una pura y simple casualidad.

“Trataré de explicarlo de la mejor manera posible, de modo que esta hipótesis sea comprensible para toda persona sin importar su nivel académico. Como bien sabemos, nuestro planeta gira en torno al Sol siguiendo una órbita elíptica que hace que cada año se ubique aproximadamente en el mismo sitio, no solo respecto al Sol, sino también, supongo, respecto a toda la galaxia y, por qué no, respecto al resto del Universo.

«Es así que tengo la sólida intuición de que los terremotos que hemos padecido en México son causados por una especie de perturbación cósmica, un rayo magnético permanente que cruza ese lugar por el que pasamos ocasionalmente el 19 de septiembre. Se me dirá que el fenómeno no se repite cada año, sino de manera aleatoria con varios años de diferencia. Para esa réplica tengo una respuesta: la órbita es como un resorte que está vibrando y que nos desplaza hacia una u otra línea o camino de nuestro movimiento. Eso permite que algunos años libremos el golpe de la radiación y que otros fatídicos, como los de 1985, 2017 y 2022, nos alcance de frente o de refilón.

«¿Por qué sólo en México está sucediendo ese sorprendente fenómeno? Porque debajo de nuestras casas, debajo de todo nuestro territorio, especialmente en zonas de la costa del Océano Pacífico donde se han ubicado los epicentros de los terremotos, existen capas tectónicas plenas de materiales propicios para que respondan con los sacudimientos que ya conocemos.

«Esto que ahora anoto no debería echarse en saco roto. Ofrezco mis teorías con la finalidad de que estemos preparados en los años subsiguientes y que cada 19 de septiembre sea considerado de asueto nacional para que huyamos al campo donde no corramos peligro alguno, con la atenta solicitud de que no dejemos, por favor, basura en esos espacios protectores y virginales».

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

Covid Update, USA, late December 2023: Buckle up, folks.

Takeaway from his (very informative) thread:

Wastewater counts are obscenely high right now, belying the official case numbers. Considering that we've stopped collecting or reporting most COVID data, wastewater is the best way we have to judge the actual infection rate now.

We are currently seeing ten million new infections a week, and can expect that to greatly increase within the next three weeks.

If you've stopped masking, please start again, for your own safety and the safety of your community. Many hospital systems are already trending toward being overwhelmed right now; let's do what we can to lighten their burden.

Avoid unnecessary gatherings where possible.

Ventilate your spaces well (this is a good time to build that Corsi-Rosenthal box you were thinking about! I made one, it's great).

And just from me, personally--now's a good time to reevaluate casual habits. I've been careless, again, about touching my face. Time for me to knock it off!

This is a period where we need to act with more care. Not a time to panic, but a time to be more cautious.
