Gonna jump right in since I literally just got this done. I’m working hard on the epic finale of Let Your Heart Be Light, the last 4 chapters of my advent fic are coming soon! Wrapping up final edits on chapter 22 and writing the rest… this line is from chapter 23.
He closes his eyes, feeling the nicotine hit his bloodstream, quieting the frazzled ends and smoothing out all the rough edges in his mind.

I Really Like Your Styles: The Holiday Advent-ure

Louis isn't much for frills, and the coffee shop he co-owns with his best friend Liam is evidence of that. Yes, it's got a decent sized, well-kept industrial kitchen, but Louis insists that people come to coffee shops for coffee, not mediocre pastry and plastic wrapped cookies. When Liam's campaign for serving treats turns into watching a few baking accounts on whichever popular app he's on now, there's one that really gets on Louis' nerves: "I Like Your Styles." With his chipper demeanor and over the top descriptions of the food he makes, Louis is sure that the (unfortunately cute) baker is full of it. Nothing that adorable could possibly be worth the hype.
It doesn't actually take much for him to eat his words...and some quality baked goods, while he's at it.

When they realize what happened, they each resign themselves to staying and spending time in the other’s city. Harry tries to make the best of things, making elaborate plans to distract herself from feeling lonely, while Nick is just looking forward to her first real vacation from her hectic job in years. Neither of them will have the Christmas that they expected, but maybe they’ll each get the one that they need.

It’s Harry’s first holiday season since he opened the little bakery at Astor Square and according to his best friend Zayn, he is hopelessly unprepared. With the start of the local Christmas market right around the corner and an already hectic schedule, Harry really can’t afford to get distracted. Then again, neither can Louis, who is in the middle of directing rehearsals for a winter musical with his drama class and promised his colleague Niall that he’d focus all of his energy on the musical.
But you know what they say: promises are like pie crusts — made to be broken.

Louis blinks before looking around the empty tube car confusedly. “Kevin?”
The man nods and then squeezes a little tighter to the little potted plant clutched in his arms. “Kevin is a Christmas Cactus, but he doesn’t bloom.” He quickly adds. “Which is completely fine, because I love him just as he is.”
Louis’ not sure what most of that means. All he does know is that he needs to make sure this strange, beautiful creature is never sad again.

However, they’d run into a small obstacle shortly after they'd arrived. That obstacle being British weather. An alert from their weather apps had popped up on their phones, signalling to them the start of a freak snowstorm and advising everyone to stay indoors.

Something to explain the presents that parents brought to the hospital on Christmas morning, or that were waiting for them at home, if they were lucky not to have to stay any longer.
Something that would allow a little bit of Christmas spirit in the sometimes sterile rooms of the hospital.
But that was before he’d met him.

“Aw,” Louis cooed in a way that made Harry want to slap him. “You’re saying I’m not your worst enemy?”
“For someone to be an enemy, you have to give a shit about them. So, no. You’re not even on the list.”
“Oh–kay. Well, it’s been lovely as always, gents,” Zayn said before knocking back the rest of his drink.

Only when he asked Lottie if anyone else had heard from Doris yet, only then did they realise their mistake and forward the email chain to him.
So, it’s either a small pink bathtub or an entire bouncy castle. And if he had the money for a bouncy castle that would be fine, but that fucker costs more than his monthly rent and he simply does not make that much working as an optometrist assistant.

Louis takes a deep breath, and replies very quickly to get it over with, “Well, see, I don’t have any heat in my flat right now and it’s hard enough to go to sleep when I’m bloody freezing—”
“Oh god. And my music’s gone and made it even worse,” Harry cuts in.
“Well, it only went out today,” Louis explains, “So it wasn’t that bad before, erm. Now.”
“Before?” Harry asks, horrified. “How long has this been?”
“Oh, erm,” Louis folds his hands where they hang in front of him and admits, “All week.”
Harry visibly wilts. He looks so sad, it makes Louis feel awful. He’s gone and crushed someone’s Christmas spirit. Some beautiful boy who looks like Danny Zuko is sad now and it’s Louis’ fault, which means he doesn’t stand a chance at being the cute neighbor from the floor below. And now he’s going to have to sleep in his freezing cold flat knowing he may as well have ruined Christmas.
Or, Louis' heat is out, Harry's a terrible upstairs neighbor, and an empty Christmas tree is the perfect excuse to fall in love.

“You-” he starts, and then stops himself, because he did tell her she could ask for anything she wanted, and how can he go back on his word and tell her that he doesn’t actually have the power to make that happen?
Because Harry Styles is -- he’s next level kind of famous. Louis has two million subscribers on his YouTube, but Harry has eighteen times as many followers on his Twitter alone. He’s had three number one hits in the last year, and his last album had charted at the top spot for a record breaking 27 weeks. He’s a singer, actor and philanthropist, and there is no way in hell that Louis can get him to come meet Daisy for Christmas.
So of course he laughs, even if it’s a little bit breathless, and nods at her. “One Harry Styles for Christmas, coming right up.”

until springtime, we sleep (i'll wait for you) by istgeve (5k, NR, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, Harry is an elf, Louis is on the naughty list, there is a PUNISHMENT if you're on the naughty list, this fic had me hiccuping from laughing so hard but trying to hold it in, it's so silly and ridiculous, and just really great overall, the banter omg the banter, I genuinely am tearing up from trying to stay quiet even now just thinking about it, please read this)
Truebonds by @jacaranda-bloom / jacaranda_bloom (40k, E, Harry/Louis, 1D A/B/O fest, alpha Harry, omega Louis, heat/rut, suppressants, nesting, heat services, accidental bonding, triggered heat/rut, soulmates, there is just SO much in this fic that I cannot simply sum up in a few sentences, the worldbuilding is incredible, the entire concept of how the nesting period goes, how finding their truebond is so unusual, just all of it was fascinating and then seeing it all play out was so natural and real and just so cool, loved this one so much)
Blind Faith by @2tiedships2 / 2tiedships2 (18k, M, Harry/Louis, Blind Harry, Alpha Harry, Omega Louis, Liam is Harry's roommate, meet cute, scenting, strangers to lovers, soulmates, this fic was one of those fics that stays with you for a while, i just keep thinking about it, the way louis was so considerate of harry and doing the research to best know how to help him, but also not take away his choice, like how to show him respect, it was just so incredible and a cool way to learn more)
and i don't care it's obvious by @alwaysxlarrie / alwaysxlarrie (21k, T, Harry/Louis, 1000 Feelings fic, childhood friends to lovers, Louis is Gemma's bff, pining, friends to lovers, flirting, getting together, I preread pieces of this fic and already knew it would be so cute, and it really was, it was filled with so much of that sweet and innocent longing, that i remember so well from when i was younger, and it was just so fun to read that particular storyline here)
Change of Plans by @haztobegood / haztobegood (3k, G, Harry/Louis, Christmas fest fic, queer platonic relationship, ace Harry, nesting, heat, non-traditional a/b/o dynamics, beta Louis, omega Harry, Christmas plans are thrown off by an unexpected heat, but it is so sweet reading about these two omg, I loved them so much, always love me some excellent asexual and queer platonic relationship material, it was WONDERFUL)
Let Them Eat Cock by @uhoh-but-yeah-alright / yeah_alright (2k, E, Louis/Liam, Louis/Zayn, Louis/Harry, Louis/Niall, Glory Hole series, Bastille Day, Glory Hole worker Louis, that's all it is and if you're familiar with the series, this addition doesn't disappoint, I had had an incredibly shitty day and needed a laugh, and knew this would deliver, and it really fucking did haha, giggles and excellent smut, what more could you want in a 2k fic?)

Storm Warning by @restless-rebels / restless_rebels (4k, T, Harry/Louis, WCC Secret Santa fic, doggie daycare owner Harry, meet ugly, but it turns into a meet cute so it's okay hehe, puppy owner Louis, winter storm, this fic was actually a gift for me, and i loved reading it so much, it was so fun and cute and sweet)
Advent Drabbles by @berzerkshires / berzerkshires (E, 3k, Harry/Louis, Advent fic, Christmas fic, drabbles, canon compliant, established relationship, every day a 100 word drabble posted, and it was incredible how drawn in I was with so few words, when I realized the final word count was that small, yet so much was gone over, it was amazing, such a fun read and little morsels of goodness every day was a joy)

Set the Sky Alight, Oh Holy Night by @londonfoginacup / LadyLondonderry (34k, T, Harry/Louis, Zayn/Liam, Niall/Lewis, Advent fic, Christmas fic, crack fic, yet also inspired by a true story, wild lollll, roommates, strangers to lovers, coworkers, unsafe living conditions, truly i have no idea how oli let them continue living there lmao, this fic is a classic emmu advent fic, and it DELIVERS on the humor and ridiculous situations, as well as the tenderness and incredibly sweet affection, always a journey and a joy to read her advent fics)

1D Advent Fic
Chocolate company name?
Okay so I'm planning an advent fic and part of the premise is that this small-ish town they live in has one main employer--a chocolate company's headquarters (or maybe candy company??). Kind of like Hershey, Pennsylvania. But I'm having a hard time coming up with a name for this company (possibly it's the name of town too??), so please let me know any and all ideas you have for this. Thx!

1. How many works do you have on AO3?
94, though I think one is a collab and one is a translation. But 90+
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
I am gonna do some math here and take off the translation because that adds 220k to my wordcount and that doesn't feel fair, lol. So that leaves 1.243.681 words. Minus about 12k that I didn't write lol, that's still a lot.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently just 1D but I am talking about writing a Lestappen fic so I might branch out!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
a game that I'm destined to lose [1449 kudos, but it's from 2012]
midnight doesn't last forever [1190 kudos, but it's from 2013]
you've set my soul to dreaming [1162 kudos]

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Um. Theoretically yes. Realistically, I haven't caught up since March and the number in my inbox is too high to look at.
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I usually write HEA but I guess the one that I remember with more of an ambiguous ending is and there's no one to blame except then Sus made me write a follow up so I guess it has a happy ending now.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All of them? I mean, I put the characters through some serious angst, but after that, they all get their very deserved happy ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not that I know of. If I do, it's not in my face.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Occasionally. I write either quirky smut, or I write stuff for wankersday, because the only smut I write is stuff that doesn't involve other people directly apparently.
10. Do you write crossovers? What the craziest one you’ve written?
Not really, but I have a HP AU I should write at one point.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yep! Someone tried to sell TNFIF online on Amazon. With a really ugly cover. Thankfully writing Tumblr came together and sent in so many bad reviews that the seller took it down.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, a few!!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I've done a round robin a few years ago, which wasn't really my style. I've started writing an advent fic with @evilovesyou but we never got around to finishing it. I will hopefully write a fic with @chaotic-bells soon!
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
For as much Larry as I write, my first true love was Ziam.
15. What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I am stubborn enough to believe I will finish all my WIPs. Eventually.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Emotions, I think. I've made people cry, so that's nice!
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Mostly I think I struggle not to make everything too in depth. A 5k fic probably doesn't need 3k of worldbuilding.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I've come across it a lot in Lestappen fics and I don't mind it as long as the translation is right behind it, and as long as it's not google translated stuff (or as long as it's google translated stuff in a language I don't know).
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Possibly Gilmore Girls. I've written for a ton of fandoms, though I've been a 1D only writer since 2012.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
That's like asking me to choose between my non existent children. If I have a favourite, I can't say it out loud. (But it's this one, for all it brought me)

After Harry’s Christmas plans fall through, she decides to surprise her best friend Nick in New York. Unfortunately, Nick decided to surprise her in San Francisco at the same time. When they realize what happened, they each resign themselves to staying and spending time in the other’s city. Harry tries to make the best of things, making elaborate plans to distract herself from feeling lonely, while Nick is just looking forward to her first real vacation from her hectic job in years. Neither of them will have the Christmas that they expected, but maybe they’ll each get the one that they need.

Do something writing-related every day, no matter how small - write, edit, outline, brainstorm, engage with my lovely readers, create moodboards/trailers, participate in tag games, chat with writing friends. I’m really happy to say that I have achieved this goal so far. I haven’t written every day, but I’ve made to sure to do something writing related even if it’s just replying to messages/comments.
Complete my planned fics for the Momrry Fest, Trope Mashup, 1D Song Fest, Big Bang, and ABO Fest. This is ongoing, of course, but my fics for the Momrry Fest, Trope Mashup, 1D Song Fest, Big Bang and all posted as planned. Thank you to everyone who read them and for all the lovely messages and comments. I’m due to post my ABO Fest fic later this month, I’ve signed up for the Harry’s House Fic Fest, and I’ll be writing for WordPlay this year too!
Branch out with a new independent fic to post as a WIP. I actually decided not to do this because I’m doing the fic I had planned for the Harry’s House fest instead!
Write another Advent Fic. This is still the plan! I’m hoping to get it started in September.
Work on my writing style and extend and challenge myself. This is one of those goals that is just something I’m working on every day. I’ve been really happy with what I’ve published this year, but I still have this yearning for something that feels radically different. Guess I’ll just see where inspiration takes me.

💝 what is a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?
There's two that come to mind:
Point. Drop. Call. because it was my first fic to surpass 1k hits and it's still got the most kudos out of any of my fics.
like cranberries on a winter evening because I had no idea what it would be like to post an advent fic and the response and the daily readers just blew me away.
🦋 what are you most insecure about when you post a fic?
I can't think of anything that would make sense here. Maybe it's posting fic that isn't in the 1D fandom? I feel like that always makes me more insecure because the response is never as big as when I post 1D fic.
✨ What's a fic you've posted you wish you could breathe life into again and have people talking about it? (or simply a fic you wish got more credit)
