1. How many works do you have on ao3?

67, soon to be 68 with the Trick or Treat Fest ficlet I've written!

2. What's your total ao3 word count?

359,280

3. What fandoms do you write for?

One Direction. I've written some 1d rare pairs which adds BBC Radio 1, Music, Fashion Model, and Actor RPF to my fandoms list in ao3.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Nailed By Louis, Not Another Lonely Christmas, All That You Need, The Prince and The YouTuber, Take on Me

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Not right away but I do respond. I read them as soon as I see the email notification, but I wait to respond until I need a boost. It's so nice to reread every comment in my inbox as I respond.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Surprisingly not the one that ends with MCD! My angstiest ending is a 500 word girl direction ficlet The Phantom Heart.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I love happy endings so it's tough to pick! I'm going to go with We're Getting Better With Time because it's about second chances, so the ending feels like a new beginning for their love.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

The closest thing I've gotten to hate was a tweet about Premier Fantasies where someone was appalled by the Harry Styles/Ted Lasso pairing. It wasn't aimed at my writing, just the choice in pairing, so I took it as a compliment that I could write something that shocked people.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do write it, but not as much as I used to. When I started writing I felt so much pressure to add smut into every fic because it gets better engagement, more hits, etc. But the more I've written, the less I care about the numbers.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I've written a couple of crossovers! Premier Fantasies is Harry Styles in the Ted Lasso universe, which was crazy just because of the pairing. I had a lot of fun writing dialogue for Ted in this one. The craziest plot-wise is Love and Other Antidotes, which is a One Direction take on Emperor's New Groove, and features Kronk, Disney style hijinks, and Harry as a little cow!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of. I think short fics and rare pairs tend to be stolen less often, so so far I've been safe.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I don't allow translations, but someone did post a translation of one without asking. I have mixed feelings about translations.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have not. I feel like as a capricorn I would want to have too much control over the story for it to be a good idea.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

I read and write Larry fics the most, but I also love Niall/Greg James as a pairing and think their dynamic is so underrated.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

My very first fic. It's a werewolf pack fic I started plotting in 2017. I didn't get very far before hitting some major plot holes that I was too inexperienced as a writer to be able to fill. I have grown so much as a writer since then that it wouldn't be the same fic with the same purpose as when I started writing it.

16. What are your writing strengths?

My biggest strength is that I write for myself. I love writing short oneshots even though long fics are get more kudos. I adore the humor of crack fics, even though angsty fics get more hits. I will tackle any new rare pair I want, even if I'm the only person that will read it.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I am a creature of habit and my habits have been disturbed. I'd worked hard to develop a habit of writing a couple of times a week, and it was going so well. But after moving and other life changes in the last year, it's been difficult to find the time or energy to write. I wish I could flip on the motivation like a switch.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

There are a couple of books I remember because of the author's use of code switching throughout the dialogue, and I think it can be really powerful for some stories. But since English is my native language, I would only use it for my own writing if it added to the story, and if had the time to properly research and get it reviewed.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The phandom in 2016 but I didn't post it back then. One Direction was the first fandom where I shared my fic.

20. Favourite fic you've written?

I'm going to do this by category because I can't choose only one:

Hiii I would like to ask you something… have you ever thought of having authors in your podcast program for fics?

Hi, anon! So the short answer is that would be amazing, but not something I'll probably be doing any time soon.

The long answer is I actually started this podcast after I was a guest on another writer's podcast in which she did each episode with a fic writer and each episode was recs for a particular trope. It was such a fun experience and when she decided to discontinue doing her podcast is when I decided to try and do one myself. I purposely wanted to make mine different and not a copy of hers though. However, there is one episode in which I had @taggiecb do the episode with me which was a lot of fun!

The main deterrent to doing that though is time. I used to do extra episodes from time to time, but I just don't have time to do that anymore. I've spread myself pretty thin with fandom stuff...HL Fic Library, 1D Monthly Fic Roundup, running Louis Rare Pair Fest, a weekly fic rec, the monthly podcast, recording fics for Podfic Pals, I just started a new series of writer recs that I'm going to do this year, and what I'm working on now is trying to launch a reccing fest. And that's in addition to writing my own fics and betaing fics for two of my friends. And also I do a weekly podcast on documentaries which takes basically all the free time I've got left in my week.

What would be amazing though is for someone else to start a podcast that had writers as guests on it! (Maybe you, anon!)

I have nothing to blame but my procrastination for not doing my November reads until now. Obviously, this is the last one of the year, and I am still undecided if I am going to be doing this next year. Tracking everything I read was a New Years resolution, and I am happy that I stuck to it! It was tiring and overwhelming and tedious, though. Turns out, I read a lot 🤪 But thank you to every author I read this year, you all made me feel less lonely.

May is always wild and crazy, and this year it wasn't any different. Despite that I was able to read a decent amount, and there were some great fics in there, including some very long fics that won't be able to be included until June's list because I'm not quite finished with them hehe Because of that, this month's rec has several shorter fics on it, which are a favorite of mine as well, so I hope you're ready to indulge yourself in some short and fabulous fics!

We’ll Call This What You Like by @tommokat / tommokat (9k, M, Harry/Louis, 1D Song Fest fic, girl direction, friends with benefits, pining, mutual pining, idiots to lovers, hahaha, friends to lovers, some really really excellent WLW smut for all y'all who need that out there lol, this fic just... whew, but at the same time was so fucking cute too haha it had it all and i loved it)

us two by @wadey-wilson / wadey_wilson (4k, G, Harry/Louis, bedtime stories, mythology, kid fic, the narrative style of this fic was so incredibly unique and interesting, and in a way it was like there was a story within a story, like there literally is a frame narrative, but it's done so differently from most frame narratives, it's hard to explain but it's glorious and incredibly effective and so beautiful, it made me cry it touched me so much, it's a really beautiful and wonderful story)

Cake Date? by @sadaveniren / SadaVeniren (3k, M, Harry/Louis, soccer coach Louis, baker Harry, flirting, fluff, hand jobs, and cake, hahahaha that's the fic and it is perfectly sweet and cute and fun, it is such a nice short happy read)

About Bloody Time by Missyoualwaysyou (2k, NR, Harry/Louis, canon compliant, pining, reading fic on ao3 about themselves, friends to lovers, smut, it's one of those fics that feels so perfectly nostalgic as you read it, and it encapsulates so much of the silly headcanon fun we used to have back when i first joined the fandom, down to the idea that maybe the boys not only read fic but wrote it too, it was a lot of fun and of course ended in some smut, such a fun fic to read)

Only Hate The Road When You're Missing Home by @magicalrocketships / sunsetmog (49k, M, Liam/Louis, famous/non-famous, exes to lovers, kinda... it's complicated lol, uni student Louis, non-famous Louis, famous Liam, roommates Niall and Zayn, sad Louis, making up, healing, hurt/comfort, marriage, angst, like omg holy hell so much angst, i cried a lot reading this fic, but also a happy ending!, and the healing felt so real, like they didn't just fix one thing and have it be all better, or assume it would be alright, they really had to work for it and kept apologizing, and had to keep talking it out etc, it was so incredibly perfectly done, i loved it so very much)

4. honestly, i’ve read wonderful fics from many talented authors in this fandom that have inspired me !! i’ve also been lucky enough to befriend some of them & receive their help w some of my fics. but i’m gonna cheat & name a few more than 3 lol oops.

@zanniscaramouche —— zanni knows how much her writing has influenced me, but her ability to keep scenes going, go from one character’s action to the next character’s action and/or dialogue so seamlessly, perfectly describe how & why an action made a character feel the way it did, etc just brings her writing to life so wonderfully. i’ve been lucky enough to have her beta quite a few of my fics that included smut as well, bless her soul, because her talent when it comes to smut, dirty talk, etc is superb. having her influence in my smut has made it what it is today, 100%.

@thedevilinmybrain —— the way jen writes emotions so viscerally & describes things in a way that even if you’ve never seen an item, action, and/or place before, you can still picture it in your head clearly is so admirable. you feel every emotion the character feels. you see exactly what the character sees. i’m obsessed w the way she portrays louis & harry’s dynamic in each fic —— it’s always similar but different. keeps you on your toes but you know it’s gonna be a good time. that’s how i aspire to write larry’s relationship in my fics lol. her writing is so captivating & phenomenal.

@loveislarryislove — long story short, annika & i have this obsession with touches & yearning doing so much for a scene, an emotion, a character, etc. touches are everything!!! i read her bodyguard fic & was obsessed before we even became friends & it showed me that you can depict so much lust, love, angst, happiness, etc in a scene that isn’t even that intense physically. bless annika’s soul for betaing my fics, too lol.

@2tiedships2 & @londonfoginacup for the same reasons —— the way they incorporate humor into their dialogue and internal monologue???? unmatched!!!! i’ve always wanted to be a writer who can incorporate humor into a fic seamlessly that is funny to people besides me and reading endless amounts of their fics & talking to them as well has definitely helped me mucho. their writing has also helped me learn that it’s okay to bend some sentence structure rules for creative reasons & i can confirm, my writing has only benefited from it.

9. kind of? i try to stay flexible with myself if i can though. like if i finish a fic a day or three after the deadline i’ve set myself, then i’m not gonna berate myself for it. i do have a schedule for my cinderella au fic tho; that has a deadline of publishing one chapter a week!

15. i hope im answering this right when i answer this based on what universe i think is the hardest to write lol —— for me, it’s omegaverse. i was just talking about this w some people in the 1d library actually lol. i love reading abo fics but im just not sure if i could take myself seriously writing the words “slick” or “knot” or whatever. i get too self aware and in my head about it. i have so much admiration for writers who write many abo fics, i wish i could do what they do. i’ve been thinking about signing up for the abo fic fest to kind of get myself over that hurdle, but we’ll see.

hello A. fun fact, you know all of these 😂 probably should've chosen something else if you wanted something brand new information

it is a/b/o! it's also them being shifters. and it got its title from the first two lines in it.

“There are wolves in the living room.” “Oh, for fucks sake.”

I started writing this before I had read any fics that changed the a/b/o dynamics, as in making the omega the dom and the alpha the sub, because I wanted to read it but couldn't find any. I know there are a few (yours, for example, and I know that @sadaveniren has a great one) I just wasn't the best at navigating ao3 back then. but since I found some, I felt a bit underqualified to write it and pretty much abandoned it

performing abroad HL intern copy

okay, I changed my mind. you probably don't know this one. not that well at least. this was what I set out to write when I started writing the fic that eventually turned into my canon fest fic, snapshots of moments. I started writing it as a fun thing, but then it quickly turned into something very angsty and clingy Harry (which is now chapter 10). the idea was that there were two interns in this venue 1D was playing and they were acting about as subtly as HL with their feelings, but claimed they were "just good friends".

Interview situation

this is also originally for the canon fest fic, but you didn't allow me to add it because it was too angsty. or you suggested that I'd post it on its own because it would be too heavy for the rest of the drabbles. so yes, it is angsty. very angsty.

I can share a snippet from it (that you, A, probably will regret reading if you read it. also, anyone who doesn't like angst and fics about closeting, just skip this)

Because no matter how much it hurts to ignore the person you love, that is still easier to take than constantly being told off when you show your lover your love.

That’s why they pretend the other isn’t a meter away. That’s why they take a detour when they are changing spots on stage. That’s why they never say the other's name.

They can’t take being told their love is wrong all the time. It’s bad enough when they mess up.

They get punished. They get their private time taken away. They get their off days turned into scheduled obligations. They get separated. They get placed on opposite ends of the earth, kissing people they wished they never had met.

Today is one of those days. A sudden change of plans, an unscheduled interview and their private time cut short.

Fuck, Louis wants to cry.

roommate au

yes, you do know this one. this is the fic I'm planning to write for the @omegaharryfest. the prompt I came up with is "Harry and his roommate never talk, but it is in his bed he ends up every night." and no, it's not as sexy and smutty as it sounds. it's angsty, sad and I think Harry might be depressed. but it has touch starvation! which is a bit ironic, since the fic I wrote for the last round of the fest was also centered around touch starvation. oh well. I love that trope 😂

3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?

Okay, so I used to write on Google Docs for the longest time and then a few months I told myself that maybe it wasn't the best privacy-wise. So I've switched to using Open Office, which I think helps me focus better because having it on a separate window away from my web browser reduces the temptation to stop mid-sentence to check another tab, you know? But at the same time, this feels VERY cursed because my version doesn't have any kind of spelling check, plus my WIPs are now saved on my internal drive, and since I don't make backups of them that often, I live in fear or my laptop dying on me and making me lose weeks of progress

Oh also, there's basically no word count lololol

Am I gonna do anything about any of this though? No, we're raw-dogging life over here 😎

15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?

I already answered this earlier but the short answer is I currently don't, but I don't judge people who do (unless it's a library book or something)

17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

I guess I'll talk about my fic for the Zouis Fest (although it might not even be part of it in the end, because I keep writing for the Dream Team fandom instead rip)

Anyway, I'm still not sure exactly what I'm doing with it. Like the main idea is that it's a Zayn-POV, canon-compliant(ish), present day fic where they run into each other in Hong Kong and are kinda forced to acknowledge what happened all those years ago, and figure out how to move forward. So like, lots of angst and feelings of betrayal and conflict and serious conversations because that's basically all I know how to (and all I want to) write lol

At the moment I'm not sure whether to keep it focused on their friendship or introduce some kind of romance aspect to it (toying with the idea that they had some kind FWB situation going while they were in the band). But since it's canon-compliant I'd feel kinda iffy doing that. I've never actually written canon-compliant before, and I have to admit that it scares me a bit, also because I've been extremely removed from the 1d fandom lately

Anyway one thing I'm sure about is that I want a scene to be inspired by the following verse from Blur's My Terracotta Heart:

And when we fly tomorrow over the Java seas And my younger maps will be there with me 'Cause they remind me of swimming out too far one day Then the coral was gone, but I didn't care anyway

Something about Zayn going too far to swim and Louis watching him almost drown but not realizing what's happening, as a metaphor for what went wrong between them

Yeah, that's pretty much all I can share at the moment. I should really get back to it

18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end.

Zayn Malik is, without a doubt, the most beautiful person Louis has ever had the privilege to lay his eyes on. To the point that if he were to explain aesthetic attraction to someone, he’d probably say something like: “The feeling I get when I look at that gorgeous guy in my English 586 class.”

That's the opening line from Situations Like These, my aro/ace Zouis fic from the first Zouis fest.

It's one of those stories that really started out with just a scene rather than an idea/concept, which I think is the case for a lot of my fics actually. I mean, I did have a prompt for this fic, which was something like "they're both ace but don't tell the other for fear of driving him away", so it was pretty vague in terms of setting and everything else, really.

I remember coming up with that opening scene and the bits of dialogues at my grandparents' place right before getting on the road back home with my parents, and since I'd rather die than write in front of them, I just had to make sure to commit everything to my memory by repeating it all in my head throughout the day, until we were finally home and I could write it down. But that's something I do a lot, I think, just come up with stuff (typically dialogue) at inconvenient times and praying that I remember it by the time I can write it down 😬 And then of course when you actually settle in front of your computer, you feel like all your inspiration is gone

Anyway, I think this might be one of my favourite opening scenes I've written, I feel like it's pretty fun while setting the tone and dynamics for the whole fic

Reviewing my 2023 Writing Goals

I made a goals list in January of 2023, and now it’s time to look them over and see what I accomplished!

1. Sprint more - I’ve been sprinting a lot more in the @1d-library discord, and I’ve had a lot of fun with my friends there, who always encourage and support me! I almost always think to see if anyone wants to sprint when I am in the mood to write, and I think it’s helped!

2. Write a sequel - This was on my goals list two years in a row, and I actually did it for 2023! I knew for a while that I wanted to add another part to my threesome fic (Even If It’s Only For Tonight) and for the Zouis Fest, I wrote It’s Alright If It Makes You Feel Alive. I’m so happy with how it came out!

3. Join a new fest - I participated in a few different fests this year! One that I loved was the Title/Trope Fest, for which I wrote Lick the Knife. It was so different for me, and I loved the end result.

4. Finish my intersex ABO WIP - I actually didn’t work on this fic at all this year, but that’s okay! I haven’t had ideas for it, but who knows what the future holds!

5. Experiment with writing new kinks/smut content - I definitely did this a lot this year! I played around with canon inspired smut in my Center Stage Whore series, which was lots of fun! Some new kinks that I wrote about include religion, ageplay, sweat, and several fics with hand content!

6. Share a fic with a friend - Oh boy, did I do this one. Not only did I start sharing some of my fics with my IRL best friend, but I even let someone read my infamous waffle fic out loud to a group of my friends! They were definitely not ready for it 😂 But my best friend has been very supportive and encouraging of my works!

7. Run a Fest - In 2023 I started a new fest @1d-oneliner-fest, and I enjoyed it! I also brought back @1dsongfest for a second round, which is currently open! I’m still not the best at modding fests, but people join them hahaha.

8. Write at least one fic without smut - Surprisingly, I wrote four mini fics without smut. It was still a struggle for me, and it felt totally weird to do. Three of the fics were for Wordplay, and I’m ehhh about how they came out lol. The fourth fic is my favorite nonsmut fic of the year, she bit someone. It was super short for the Trick or Treat Fest, but maybe I’ll continue more in that universe in the future!

Honorable mention: this was not a set goal until the very end of the year, but I posted 30 fics in 2023! Very proud of being able to reach that number ☺️

Overall, I think I did really well this year! Couldn’t have done it without all my amazing friends and readers!

i actually only have two wips at the moment (which is shocking for me as i usually have a zillion barely-touched wips going at once)!

one is for the @1d-oneliner-fest — it's called sage; it's a (mostly…)fluffy, single parent harry, meet-cute! it's about the beauty of friendship, and the hardships of raising a child alone, and learning to love again :) at least…that's the general plot so far. it's not due for a while so who knows if i'll decide i absolutely hate it last minute and rewrite everything. that's definitely a possibility……

the second is shorter and more of just a lil slice-of-life piece (tentatively) called you, me, and the sea; where harry is an artist who loves to paint lighthouses and the sea and louis works at a cafe by the sea…and the rest is history :,) it's about new boyfriends h&l and all that adorableness that comes with the honeymoon phase! it's short but sweet, and i've actually really enjoyed researching british lighthouses lmao. who woulda thunk?

[but also i’d be lying if i said i think i’ll finish either of those before another idea pops in my head and i completely ignore both of those and write & post a random, new one before my wips…oops]

What is this fest about?

Everyone who wants to write for the fest picks a line from the prompt list and builds a fic around it!

Prompt Submission Rules

Lines can be about almost anything. They can be funny, serious, sad, deep, sexy, or whatever you want! However, the mod reserves the right to refuse lines that may be too triggering for people.

Lines can be part of the narrative, such as, Louis and Harry couldn’t stop staring at each other across the room, or it could be dialogue, such as, “Why on earth would you say something like that?”

NSFW lines are allowed. There will be a separate section in the prompt list for these lines, so people who do not want to read them will not have to look at them.

You can include specific character names in the prompts if you want to, but writers have permission to change them if they really want to use that line with different characters. Feel free to write [Person A], [Person B], [Name], etc.

Only original lines are allowed; in other words, something you came up with yourself. This means…

- No song lyrics

- No quotes from famous people

- No quotes from TV shows, movies, books, TikToks, etc

- No quotes from other fics

Obviously phrases that are somewhat generic may not be original. Something like, “I miss you so much it hurts,” has probably been written somewhere before, but it’s not specific enough to be “from” anything, so it’s okay to use. That being said, generic lines are okay, but more specific might be more fun!

Lines can be up to two sentences, but they must occur one right after the other.

Fic Rules

The only real rule is that you have to include your given line somewhere in your fic.

Can I edit the line I chose? Try not to if you can help it. Adding, removing, or changing a word is fine, but the point is to use the line as it is! If you want to message the mod with your proposed change, you can!

The line I picked has two sentences; can I split them up? Again try not to. A short sentence in between is okay if you really need to, but the prompt submitter put them together for a reason!

What if the line I picked is in past tense, but I write in present tense? By all means, change the line to fit the tense you prefer to write in!

The line I want mentions Harry, but I want to write about Zouis. Can I change the name? It would be nice to keep the line with the original name, but you can change them if you really want to.

Can I sign up with my own prompt? No. The point is to use a line someone else came up with; the rest of the lines in the fic are yours!

Can I sign up to write multiple fics? Go for it! But please wait until your first prompt has been confirmed.

Fics can include any pairing or even no pairing as long as it features at least one of the five One Direction boys.

Fics will not be moderated, so please tag appropriately! There is no minimum or maximum word count, so have fun!

Fics must be completed upon submission.

Louis was smitten from the moment Harry had arrived a month ago. Long, curly hair which he mostly keeps up in a bun, and a sinfully deep voice. Cheeky too. Louis likes that the best. He gives good banter and laughs at Louis’ dumb jokes, adding his own woeful puns. When Louis had asked him why he was in this godforsaken dust bowl, he’d said something about a ground crew traineeship and fulfilling his visa requirements while experiencing the real Australia. Louis had been momentarily distracted by Harry’s plush, red-bitten lips so the salient details may have washed over him.

OR Drinking beer in a blow-up pool, in a backyard, in stupidly hot temperatures, in outback Australia should be ridiculous, and it would be, if Louis didn't have a curly-haired workmate to keep him company.

2019 1D Short Fic Fest Round Up

Down Memory Lane by flicker_album Harry and Louis have known each other since they were five. Now they’re in their senior year of high school and still best friends. Harry, as sentimental as ever, keeps anything Louis gives him in a box under his bed. He doesn’t anticipate Louis finding the box.

A Way So Familiar by yeah_alright Liam squeezes Zayn’s hand and presses a light kiss to his fingers. He freezes when Zayn stirs, worried he’s woken him. He’s not ready to wake him. He’s enjoying being held as he wades through the memories of that first night he’d held Zayn. Held him so properly and thoroughly that he had fallen asleep still holding him tightly. That night of pizza and beer and unadulterated flirting, when their playfulness had taken on a greater significance. It had felt revelatory. Like it was all finally – fucking finally – happening. Liam wakes up in Zayn’s arms and reminisces about some of their “firsts.”

Louis likes that the best. He gives good banter and laughs at Louis’ dumb jokes, adding his own woeful puns. When Louis had asked him why he was in this godforsaken dust bowl, he’d said something about a ground crew traineeship and fulfilling his visa requirements while experiencing the real Australia. Louis had been momentarily distracted by Harry’s plush, red-bitten lips so the salient details may have washed over him. OR Drinking beer in a blow-up pool, in a backyard, in stupidly hot temperatures, in outback Australia should be ridiculous, and it would be, if Louis didn’t have a curly-haired workmate to keep him company.

He couldn’t not, really, what with the man being so pretty and all, and Harry remembers it well because it was three days before his birthday and he had joked to himself that seeing someone so gorgeous for three days on the trot must be an early present from the Gods. Or The one where Harry has a crush on a fellow commuter.

Louis enters the room and freezes in the middle of taking off her beanie. Her gaze slides down in a heartbeat, mouth hanging open. Harry waits. And waits. She doesn’t know what she expected. She shouldn’t have just stripped down first thing when they arrived home. Harry has nipple piercings and she’s more than willing to show them to Louis.

After accidentally hitting him with his guitar case, Louis agrees to get a drink with Harry as long as he doesn’t start playing “Wonderwall”

Back To Life by Laziam (MItCheLlInE) When a fun day out turns into a horror scenario for Zayn, a kind stranger turns his entire world upside down.

The Bet by jacaranda_bloom Louis Tomlinson never reneges on a bet. Ever.
