hi, how did the whole ‘enemy narrative’ between H & L come about? like did they just stop interacting?

asking bc i saw a post about a certain 1D concert in 2015 and they said oh H & L obviously didn’t interact

1DHQ pushed that narrative, starting in 2013 when their closet shifted and became much more severe and restrictive. They stopped allowing H and Louis to sit next to each other, interact directly on and off stage, they couldn't be pictured together, only with the band, couldn't post each other, etc etc.... basically they could only acknowledge each other in reference to One Direction and within the band. Everything else, they had to act like they didn't know each other.

1DHQ went as far as spreading this narrative that they hated each other in the press, promo, gossip articles and sites. Saying they didn't so much as travel together on tour and that they needed separate planes/cars etc.

It was bullshit, bc we have plenty of video, photos and stories that show that this narrative was totally a lie that they spread to fragment the fandom, create more engagement, boost their PR and closet H + L further.

We have plenty showing that they did travel together a lot on tour, shared clothes, shared a dressing room, interacted bts, etc etc etc.

This is why larrairport was such a big deal at the time too, bc after so long of that bs narrative, we got pap pics showing HL traveling together in the same private plane.

This narrative is basically the root of the state of this fandom today, and all the issues this fandom has to this day, and why it's so fragmented. We have antis vs larries, solos vs ot4/ot5, and a bunch of other fandom groups. It worked brilliantly for 1DHQ and 1D's PR bc by having fan infighting they guaranteed fandom engagement and retention.

marte, Idk if I'm the only one but I felt like if L and H came out in the 1D days their CO would have been such a groundbreaking thing. It could have changed stuff for the whole industry......fetus larry would be idolised for that.....now I kinda feel the moment has passed for them....if they came out now or later it wouldn't be so big and groundbreaking after all....not saying that they should CO for the public and not for themselves hut in general I think it would have had a bigger impact back then than now....or later.....(obviously they may not have the ability to do so but yeh).

Alsoz do you think they'll ever share with us what happened back in the 1d days? Closet and all?

I've talked about this before. Check out my "power couple" tag. I think there is still a window for them to become a power couple and for it to have a massive impact. There still aren’t any out young gay male celebrity couples. They could be the new posh and becks or brangelina. But that window is closing on them. The longer they wait the less impact it's going to have on young people and the less chance they'll have to become a power couple. It's most likely not up to them though. They would if they could.

I think they are under several NDAs and we'll never know the full story. I do think they'll share some things though, but they're most likely not in a position to reveal some or the horrors that they've been subjected to by modest, syco and sony.

Niall's twitter is current day 1DHQ

The way 1DHQ acc use to gaslight fans during 1D years is what Niall's twitter has done during haitus years. Like when a fan mentions how Syco/Modest mistreated the boys, or how Niall was forced to perform while injured, or how Niall's mic was turned down during a concert resulting in Louis giving him his mic here comes Niall responding gaslighting them on how that's not true. How 1D was treated great by them and they weren't overworked or he was shown as a front man singer in the group.

He's never even tagged in these tweets and yet he finds them going out of his way to respond and state the obvious mistreatment of himself during 1D is false. Niall all other members have spoken out about being overworked/mistreated and how it caused them to have an ED, have anxiety, or become an alcoholic. You were in a toxic environment we all know it so stop trying to make us believe you all weren't mistreated during 1D.

Personally I think Niall does this bc he sees himself as a hot shot now with a successful solo career and is embarrassed by how he was treated during 1D being shown as a "lesser than" singer [even tho he isn't] so he tries to act like 1D time period didn't happen the way it did. Some say it's probably bc he is still tied to S/M but that would be an excuse as to why he says nothing not why he actively defends them making it seem like his time in 1D was all rainbows and sunshine + louis never did that when he was still tied to them. Either way it's annoying he does this and is essentially current day 1DHQ.

I've been thinking about your earlier anon who asked what you would do if Louis said in the documentary that he was straight. Like you said, turns out it's not something we actually have to worry about, but I kept thinking about it because I feel like maybe we've forgotten that people, especially celebrities, lie. All the time. And it's fine.

Sometimes those lies can be harmful (like when celebrities say they haven't had plastic surgery or their weight loss is from doing this one quick 15 minute daily workout), or can be protective (like a closeted celebrity lying about their sexuality), or just a totally normal desire to retain some privacy around some part of their lives (which all of us do all the time! when I'm having a really bad day and a random cashier asks how I'm doing, I lie. when my boss asks what I did last weekend and I got totally wasted with friends, I lie.). It's a little weird to me that people take Louis saying he's being authentic and honest in this documentary as a sign that everything in it must be the entire unvarnished truth, as if that's even a reasonable expectation.

But also, we're not obligated to believe people's, especially celebrities', lies. I continue to think it's really harmful to try to out Louis, but privately believing he's lying? Totally fine.

If Sony is all powerful and able to control what the guys do, how was the band able to go their separate ways in 2016? Why didn't Sony stop it by threatening to sue them like Larries claim H & L will be sued if they try to come out? Or did Sony always know that Harry could be bigger and more profitable to them than 1d, as he is now?

Syco/Columbia/Sony saw the potential in Harry from the start. Like every successful boyband before 1D there has always been a break out star who've come to have a successful career after the band, and in some cases even surpassed the bands success. Ricky Martin, Ronan Keating, Robbie Williams, Justin Timberlake etc. Boybands don't last forever. So Sony planned to capitalise on the chosen member from the beginning of the band and give said member the best opportunities and the most advantagous image in order to attract fans (to bring along on his solo venture).

Sony's plan was to have 1D stay together until they peaked. When 1D peaked they put 1D on hiatus. I think that must have coincided with their contract ending or a mutual wish for a break. By then Sony knew how popular Harry had become (aided by them for years), so when 1D peaked that was the right time to launch Harry's solo career and try to surpass 1D's success. If it didn’t work they could probably have brought back 1D. I suspect Sony's plan is to bring 1D back when Harry peaks for a reunion, and capitalise on that too.
