Today's compilation:
Neferiu Records 2000 IDM / Drum n Bass / Techno
Got a pretty nifty debut comp here from a little Canadian label called Neferiu Records that seemed to specialize in IDM and hip hop throughout its ~thirteen-year tenure. Founded at the turn of the millennium by a guy named mantrakid—who supplies his own piece of experimental dub techno with "Live v. 1.0" on this very album—Neferiu was inspired by the music from a largely European digital subculture called the demoscene, in which groups of computer nerds would make cool and stunning audiovisual presentations called demos and enter them into competitions. Not very well-versed in this stuff myself, but looks like there's some playlists of awesome demos that have been made throughout the years up on YouTube. If you love old computer graphic art, I would suggest you definitely give those a look.
Here's a neat and trippy demo I found from 1997, for example:
youtube
Anyway, being that the demoscene is a mostly European thing, it makes sense that with IDM and other related forms of computer-based electronic music being heavily driven by the internet itself, that a Canadian label would be able to recruit a bunch of European talent for its own releases. And that's exactly what seems to have happened here with this CD.
Now, I know that in the header for this post I've described this album as being IDM, drum n bass, and techno, but that's only because there are multiple tracks from each of those genres on here. Really, this is way more of an electronic music smorgasbord than I've let on. There's also a great lo-fi house track that sounds like it was recorded off of a cassette or something by Sweden's Lukas Nystrand, a piece of downtempo, and a drill n bass tune too.
But my absolute favorites on here are a pair of IDM tunes, one by a duo from Stockholm called Frank and Bill, and another by a Polish-Canadian duo called Ilkae. Frank and Bill contribute "Asfaw," a song with this little glint of a proto-trap edge in its beat that gets undergirded with some sweet, dusky pads at around the minute-mark, before continuing to add a slightly distorted chiptune-y melody to complete the package; and then Ilkae's "Kk," which is the very first track that they ever released together, seems to answer the question, "what if music box, but IDM?" Pleasantly placid chiming synths dominate this one, as they play over a constantly pecking, rhythmic bed.
And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention "Haloaw" by Helsinki's Lackluster too, an IDM tune with a much darker vibe than the rest of these. Lackluster's first 'major label' release was on the UK's deFocus, whose 12-inch sampler, Two You See?, I posted about just yesterday; and "Haloaw" also appears on another comp I've posted about in the past, one from Miami's Merck label called Squadron Sampler, which I said might just be the greatest IDM 12-inch comp that's ever been made, period 😯. That release also has Brothomstates and a teenaged Machinedrum on it.
In all honesty, I really didn't love *all* of this release, though. There are certain points where this album gets to feeling a bit listless and a little too out-there for me, personally. But still, as Neferiu puts it on their own Bandcamp page for this debut, "…you got yourself heat. Oldschool heat, but heat none-the-less." And that definitely rings true.
More of this type of stuff on the way 😎. And check out this album and the rest of the Neferiu catalog on their Bandcamp too!
Highlights:
Krii - "Futura" Abstrakt - "Infection" Frank and Bill - "Asfaw" Lackluster - "Haloaw" Lukas Nystrand - "Music - Wheres the Harm?" Ilkae - "Kk"
[P.S.: All of these are Bandcamp links except for "Haloaw" and "Kk," because those are the only ones that I could find on YouTube.]

Club Owner!Astarion x Journalist!Reader
Modern Au
Warning: Heavy partying, drugs and alcohol mentioned
Just a little continuation of the modern one shots I'm making of the Baldur's Gate 3 characters and what their modern jobs would be. At first I pictured him as being some flamboyant designer, but it started to seem way too obvious and surface level for him. Though something about him meticulously rising in the party scene with his own club seemed to be way more fitting in my head the more I thought about. I'm also heavily inspired by my big city club scene, I spent many weekends getting sucked away in their extravagance. Also a little bit of my mom's stories of the 90's and early 2000's club scene.
Tumblr media
The lights were heavy and blinding, the smell of sweat and body order in the air. The smell of lust was all too familiar between all the mingled bodies under those strobing lights, moving and swaying. All either high off the meaning of the life of night, drugs, alcohol. Hair and clothing swishing back in such a mesmerizing way, almost as if it was under the influence of witch craft, if you would count the party scene as such.
Which it could, the party scene was extravagant in the big cities, it was a time to let loose and let the big city take you in with it's embrace, whether it be done with safety or with the smirk of the devil disguised as a smile. You couldn't tell as you glanced around you, almost feeling yourself getting hypnotized by the graceful and sometimes sloppy movements of the people around you. Hell, it could have been the second high of the weed that hung heavy off their panting breathes. Though you were here with a purpose, with a job to do.
You sent here to hopefully snag an interview with the owner. He popped out of nowhere in the big cities downtown party scene. It was catching the attention of everyone. Anyone who had a name and a credit to follow, frat boys and sorority girls, even the minorities such as the LGBTQ community. That one garnered much attention from the conservatives the minute they introduced their drag shows to their mainstage, even now old women and men stood outside those tinted windows of the front doors clutching their pearls and purses as they yelled their obscenities to ward whatever evil they felt lurking behind those doors. Also other groups were starting to raise the worries of drug fueled nights happening within the building, worried of a spike in drugs within the city.
Now that was a worry that your local newsletter was raising within their own cubicles. They wanted the hot and heavy scoop on this place that almost everyone seemed to be in harmony in. Drunk off the simple charisma of the atmosphere.
Definitely a form of witchcraft in the air you thought as you continued your journey past the outstretched hands beckoning you to join them in their blissful stupor, tacky hands of sweat a reminder of all those people passed by upon your exposed arms and clouds of smoke from vapes swirling your senses. Your eyes kept scanning the crowds, looking for what, you had no idea, the building was packed to the brim as you continued your journey. A perilous one at that, you thought you felt the crunch of a broken glass cup beneath your shoe here and there. thankfully what you guessed were employees were quick to push everyone backed to sweep up the mess, that ocean soon engulfed that once empty space.
"Sweetheart, you look lost! Have a seat and get your bearings! It's $3 shots tonight!" Called out a voice almost crystal clear from over the heavy techno music. A man beckoned you forward, silver hair taking on the shade of whatever strobing light sweep across those strands. The sleeves of his button down rolled upon upon his arms. You could see that it was slightly wrinkled from his constant and skillful movement behind that bar. Faint droplets of whatever alcohol he poured tonight resided upon those wrinkles as well.
Despite all that, he still managed to look put together, mesmerizing, unlike the sweaty fools all around you.
But you were no fool, definitely not. You marched up to the bar that was littered with the remnants of condensation from the last glass that once rested their, slightly damp napkins also littering the surface.
"Actually, as shocking as this might sound, I'm not here to drink, is there anyway I can speak to the owner?" You called back over the obnoxiously loud music. You could have sworn it was vibrating ever organ, every cell, every single fiber of your being.
"Oh?" He spoke with a raise of his brows as he slid a drink over to another patron, them swaying off with their liquid luck to help them pushing for their night of fun and carefree. "He's not in at the moment, but I'll tell you what! He usually comes back when the lights come back on for clean up at 2:00, come back then." you didn't know if that smile was genuine, you couldn't help but sense a hint of mischievousness upon those pale lips.
"Good! I'll be back then, let him know that the Baldur's Post wants to ask him a few questions!" You shouted back. Though you weren't too hopeful that it would even happen as you made past all those sweaty hands once more and back into the fresh air of night where people lulled about, making out, fighting with the few protestors, or even wiping away tears as their friends coddled them from whatever happened that night.
Your cue to reenter the coven like place was when the hoards of people began to file out, all dazed, stupid drunk smiles slapped upon their lips, beads of sweat glistening upon their foreheads thanks to the streetlight that shined upon above along with the flashy neon light of the club. The unsuspecting prophets bidding their children of the night home and farewell until their next outing of extravagance.
Only few people were left within the building, only the few sweaty stragglers and the clean up crew sweeping and mopping the tiled floors. Now you good see the walls were a deep burgundy color, the floors and ceiling matching in the color of the dark void of sleep. It was almost as the void threatened the partiers, almost like they were dancing with death itself. You thoughts and observations might have been dramatic, but if you were in that scene as you were in your younger years, you would have found the so called dance with the void invigorating and thrilling.
"So, what do you think of the place, I hope it is to the Baldur's Post's standards" soon piped up a voice, that same man now walking up to you, hands lazily shoved within the depths of his pockets. Now a definite mischievous smirk upon those pale lips. "Welcome to the Archon, I'm Astarion who just so happens to be the owner of this fine establish."
The feeling of annoyance that bubble up within you came with a racing heart. You had to hold back the eye roll that your stare wanted to dearly display to the man before you.
"I know, it wasn't very um...hostly of me to do what I did, but I didn't think it would have been a very appropriate time to introduce myself, plus I wanted you to soak in the liveliness of the night" He said, words holding a playfulness to it as he slide onto one of the bar stools, a hand sweeping back his hair that was just ever so slightly damp. Probably from his work behind the bar or maybe it just because of all those sweaty dancing bodies that had surrounded him only moments before. "But nevertheless, what questions does your fine establish have for me?" he asked, his eyes only looking to you innocently, but at this rate, you didn't think it was very real.
"Well...do you mind if i record our conversation?" You asked, but he only gave a lazily wave of his hand, which you took as acceptance as you place your phone, now recording, on the bar between you him as you sat down. "Alright, how do you feel of all the eyes being on you? It's not all the time a club is so accepting of all groups, if you know what I'm saying.." you soon asked, notepad now out on the bar, those droplets from earlier smudging the note of whatever piece of paper was the unlucky one to be the one resting there.
"Well I like to say were are collectors of misfits, it doesn't matter if you are a football star or just a person who sells their soul to a bone crushing 9 to 5, those people can feel like an outcast and we are just the ones to give them a little pick me up, a moment to be seen" He said with a shrug of his shoulders, but he was soon calling out to one of the bartenders who was left on cleaning duty. "A drink would suit you, you are so up tight. Leon, maybe a vodka cran, they strike me as someone simple" You quickly objected, but the drink was already placed before you and also one to the now newly introduced Astarion in front of you who was already taking a nursing sip from the glass.
"Please do go on"
You couldn't even wrap your head around the character around you. Was this person real? How can someone be so...this? You didn't know if it was cockiness, but some how he was also so charismatic in the process. You were starting to slowly see why maybe this place was drawing so many people in. He was the on placing the spell upon every single warm body that walked past those doors. You were even so sure that if he were to ever speak to those bible thumping protestors outside, he would bid them farewell with only ever speaking just a few words to them.
"The community is also worried about this place fueling more drug habits" You finally spoke up, your fingers tucking a strand behind your ear. You were nervous under that piercing and analyzing gaze of his. it was like he was calculating every little thing about you. He gave a simple huff at your questions.
"Drugs were already a problem anyway and its not like it is my responsibility to say 'hey! stop doing that!'" he gave a small shake of his head as he leant his cheek upon his hand as he looked to you through those silver eyelashes of his. "But if your little post would be happy to learn that we have a zero substance policy, we can't control who does anything before they come in here, but we don't allow the activity to take place in here. I have employees undercover in every part of this bar, even in the bathrooms, to kick out anyone who is, is that satisfying enough?" His eyebrows now raised to you, waiting for your response.
"I didn't know that.." you could only respond with a simple lift of your shoulders, almost as in a surrender to the man before you.
"Hmm.." he only looked to you, you could practically see the thoughts swirling behind those eyes of his. "Com again tomorrow night" he simply stated, now standing up. "Give this place an actual chance, let that guard down. Clean slate, leave those poisoned words whispered in those pretty little ears of yours at home"
You were trapped in that little spell of his as you actually showed up the next night, clean slate. Old party clothes busted from their forgotten spot within that small apartment closet of yours. All smashed back into the void by the work clothes that took their priority over the years. You let yourself get sucked into the Archon, accepting the maze of hands this time as people happily pulled you in.
But there he was in the crowd, beckoning you with a delicate hand.
He was intoxicating as he took you by the hands, lovingly and caringly. A temptress. He so easily got you to sway with him to the music, letting the rhythm take him and yourself on a journey under those colorful lights. Each and every beat taking away an ounce of care from your shoulders as you became entangled with him. The smell of sweat all around the two of you, but it was invigorating. Feet never tired, body never tired. Laughter came so easy, smiles and grins.
It finally occurred to you that this was it. The freeness. It was the ability to just do, to let go, to breathe. No crushing feeling of impressing the editors at work or get the dirt on the next target. It was just you and nothing holding you back. Not a drink or substance to coax that feeling out of the soul within your swaying body.
Well the taste of his lips upon yours was possibly the equivalent to any drink that could have been brought to your own lips. The feeling of his fingers within your hair a shivering sensation. Such a superficially thing it could have been viewed as from someone glancing, but how it all seeped and swirled into your sense and his own. In a blink of an eye the lights were on and your were sitting on a bar stool, glass of water rolling with condensation sat in front of you, the same for Astarion besides you, his chest almost moving in the same rhythm as your as he also to catch his own breath.
"I forgotten what that felt like" you finally was able to say in your breathlessness.
"I know it may sound a bit cliche of me, but same" Astarion said with a laugh. "The moment I opened this place I was always behind the bar or making sure everything was running smoothly, you know, being such a mindful business owner. Though I let it make me into what I'm trying to make my patrons forget. Selling my soul to that pesky 9 to 5."
You understood what he meant. It gave a new insight into him. A business owner.
"But that still means we have jobs, dear. Go home before you fellow writers and editors send hounds after me" He said nonchalantly as he handed you the small hand bag you brought with you, leaving you to make your departure from the establish, the night finally catching up as you could feel those pesky blisters forming on the parts of your feet and toes that didn't agree with the shoes you were wearing, but it wasn't much of a concern to you as you bid those neon signs and street lights a goodbye.
Though it took you until the next morning to find that crumbled up napkin within your purse that had a number scrawled on it with the name 'Astarion' following after it, slightly smudged by a droplet of something wet it must have encountered at some moment during that night. Your fingers automatically typed the number into your phone, but you were at a loss at what to actually message him as you stared to the messenger bar on your phone. You could have face palmed at the fact of your simply sending a 'Astarion?' to him was actually a good way to approach it. It wasn't much of a shock when he sent your name back, he knew exactly what he was doing, whatever it was, it was unknown to you.
Nevertheless, that little insignificant text sent a flourish of something. Novels of words spilled between the two of you during the week. Jokes, slight flirting, slight windows of emotions of opening up about certain things. People would notice that stupid smile that would come to your face the moment his name would appear onto your cell phone. It was the same for him, but he was too prideful when someone would call him out on it, simply waving them off.
That's how you found yourself wrapped within his arms on the worn down couch of your apartment. A simple sunday night, the worries of work long forgotten, even if only in merely hours the two of you would have to bid bitter goodbyes to worry about work all over again.
What a pesky little thing.
But none of that matter, not even the heavy pattering of rain upon your window mattered as you snuggled up to him, basking in his cologne as a corny vampire movie played on the tv before you. His arms were good about melting the worries of the real world beyond this mortal realm along with those fingers that absentmindedly twirled your hair around his fingers, snagging on a little knot every now and then, but he was always quick to give a soft sorry that you could feel whisp by your ear.
the shivers that he subjected you to should have been criminal.
"And just to think, you sent to take down my little empire" He joked as his arms pulled you in close, the feeling of his rumbling chest up against you own.
"Good thing you have such a good way with words to stop me.." you quipped back, lifting your head to look up to him, his hand soon cupping your flushed cheek.
"Yes, good thing..."

Today is the 20th Anniversary of the release of Haibane Renmei, which is a great time to post art. Good art, you ask? Oh the best - early 2000′s wallpapers from the dregs of the internet, of course!
Tumblr media
Nothing says “graphic design is my passion” like throwing black font on a black background because, like, its the Black Parade? It has to be black???
Another genre of Wallpaper at the time was the ‘anime + poetry’ blend, which Haibane was a poster child for:
Tumblr media
Posted by “Knight Of Lain” in 2005 as their first wallpaper, King tier shit. This genre really died out by ~2010, but I think early internet had a lot of quasi-spiritual, “Christian-ish but I don’t like, read the bible ya know?” teens for whom Haibane’s ennui & iconography really hit home. Those people are either practicing capital-W Witches or Gwyneth Paltrow now.
Something I did discover when browsing DeviantArt was the people who uploaded “wallpapers” that were just screenshots? Of their desktops? So like their UI was still there, so you couldn’t really download it as a wallpaper:
Tumblr media
At the time that would be frustrating, now its perfect Y2K-core vibes. “Posted in 2006″ yeah I gathered that, show me the Warcraft 3 mods don’t tease me like this!!
To diversify a bit, I did find this Winamp skin in the Museum, fully ‘flipped image’ and everything like how it was done at the time:
Tumblr media
I find this particularly amusing because I know why it exists - Serial Experiments Lain was hugely popular with the techno scene for obvious reasons, so there are tons of winamp skins for that show, and Haibane is related to Lain, so even though Haibane shares like none of Lain’s aesthetic in that regard...why not right?
On the more professional side, Megatokyo Author Fred Gallagher absolutely did a Haibane-inspired sidestory in his webcomic in 2007! He loved the anime and I think its ‘genre’ was something he was trying hard to emulate in the late 2000′s:
Tumblr media
Link if you want to read it, though the Haibane elements are more aesthetics than plot.
To end this a little meta, Haibane wallpapers, like everything back then, were built out of “constituent parts”, official art from scanned artbooks and promotional material, cut & recoloured in photoshop. One of the big source ones at the time came from this image, if I recall correctly:
Tumblr media
Which is funny, because it kindof isn't from Haibane Renmei? That isn’t Rakka. Its from Yoshitoshi Abe, in a doujin he published in 1998 *called* Haibane Renmei, but it was extremely different from the show. Its just a collection of standalone art jumping between cute and gothic-creepy, and these angels live in modern Japan:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The latter creepy stuff is actually kindof funny, as you can tell this guy is definitely designing for Serial Experiments Lain at the time - which shares that sensibility deeply - but its an aesthetic that would barely survive in the actual product by the time the *true* predecessor doujin of the anime, Haibane of Old Home, would be released in 2001. But since so many Haibane fans *were* alt-edgy goth loving freaks due to how Haibane was situated & transmitted in western anime cultural spaces at the time (and its inherent themes, not taking that away), pulling from the extant creepy art out there was a natural instinct. So that og image just...became Rakka.
You can check out the 1998 doujin here in full if you want - if you are a fan of NieA under 7, the other anime based on one of ABe’s doujin, you will definitely notice some proto-characters for that story in this.
(Also since it has happened before, every art featured here is unironically great, their creators are great for making them. Cringe is dead, I love all of this)

Im sure op meant no harm, no beef with them personally but this post bugs me in a very specific way not because I find the latter more interesting than the former (you know me I’m weird phone design autism guy) but because the description of the former divorces it from the context of its time period and paints it as some creation based purely on unproblematic personal innovation when in actuality that era of phone design is just the result of its own 2000’s era capitalistic target demographic, and to remove it from this context undermines the weight that this era of capitalistic technofuturism had and continues to hold, especially with the overtly prevalent techno-orientalist ideology that went hand in hand with the 2000’s era of technological design as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean take the Cybiko for example. I’m sure we can all agree that this design is unique and fun. However you must also look at how it was marketed and why it was designed the way it was. This was a phone heavily marketed towards teens as the hip and cool technology of the future or whatever as most tech in the 2000’s was targeted as. What can be so negative about such an interesting phone design? It isn’t some glass slab like todays phones, what’s the problem? Well let’s take a look at this guardian article from 2001 in an interview with the guy behind it
Tumblr media
“The advertising supports the traditional perception of the origins of such products” “the Cybiko is mock-Japanese” Are you seeing what I’m saying here

I don't know if anyone asked this before or not, but... their favorite type of music? Sorry, I just love your headcanons :D
hehehe ok
Music headcanons!
Peppino: Based on the track "Hip to be Italian", I have a silly headcanon that he likes old school hip hop. Missy Elliot, Tupac, etc. He also likes classic rock (think of bands like The Rolling Stones) and Italian opera.
Gustavo: Another opera fan! I feel like he would listen to anything on the radio. So probably listens to a lot of pop music, especially stuff from the early 2000's. Idk I can weirdly see him listening to Britney Spears lmao.
Mr. Stick: Hmm... I feel like he'd also be a pop fan. Probably a Swiftie. His cringe ass probably listens to nightcore.
Pepperman: He probably listens to something among the lines of Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.
The Vigilante: COUNTRY, DUHHH. Definitely a Johnny Cash fan. Idk a lot of country artists tbh.
The Noise: One of those guys that listens to anything but country. Thinks country is stupid. Will listen to any genre, but his favorites are probably techno, metal, and soft rock. (idk what genre it actually is, so here's some examples of what I consider soft rock. Links broke, so they're at the end!) He would probably love System of a Down and all their joke songs.
Noisette: Definitely a fan of pop music, another Swiftie. Probably also listens so soft rock. Listens to Clairo for sure. A lot of early 2000's music as well. LOVES Lady Gaga. Says "Paparazzi" is her and The Noise's song. (All couples have their "song", you know what I mean?)
Fake Peppino: Likes most music! Is a fan of electronic! Also unironically likes Cocomelon. Drives others INSANE with it. (I see him as having a child-like mindset.) Doesn't like screamo, it scares him.
Pizzahead: Loves classical musical as well as music from the 30's-50's. I feel like he'd also love Nicki Minaj.
Pillar John: Reggae and Ska. He just seems like that type of guy. Listens to a lot of songs about weed without knowing they're about weed. (Innocent mindset.)
Gerome: I feel like he secretly enjoys opera music. The skill it takes to sing opera amazes him. He probably also enjoys electronica. I like the irony of a quiet guy liking loud, upbeat music.
Here's those links, btw!

APH America "Ethnography" and Headcanons (SFW)
The United States of America, Alfred F. Jones, Mr. Stars and Stripes, 'Merica, Pretty Boy, um... or just simply America.
Here is a list of data I have gathered from this country and oh boy, what an interesting specimen we have here....
Ethnography
You will find this find this mythological creature at your local Walmart superstore during the evening hours on a weekday, sporting flannel loungewear pants (The plaid kind), a cotton t-shirt that definitely has been worn no less than two (2) times, Old Navy $1 flip flops, and a gray jacket.
When asked about his late night runs to the popular supermarket chain, his answer is just simply:
"There's nothing else to do and no where to go."
America's Cart Inventory for March 22nd:
One (1) package of "Mega Stuf Chocolate Oreos" for $5.97, One (1) 6-Pack of "Starbucks Frappuccino Chilled Coffee Drinks" in Caramel Flavor for $7.98, One (1) Family Sized Bag of "Flaming Hot Cheetos" for $5.94, One (1) "Furby Interactive Toy" for $39.19, and One (1) Stick of " Axe Apollo Men's Deodorant Stick" for $4.97. Total of purchase was $64.05 before tax.
When questioned about the "Furby Interactive Toy", he replies:
"Yeah dude, there's this thing I wanna make that's called a "Long Furby". Wanna come by my place and check it out?"
I agreed to the invination as it would give me a better look into his living space and lifestyle. He's very friendly person.
Living Space (Home):
Oh dear god, why did I agree to come here?
House is a what you would expect from a typical American college student such as:
"Saturdays Are For The Boys" banner flag, Marvel and DC posters, a very unsettling looking blue leather couch that looks like it has been through hell and back, random dumbbells and untouched exercise equipment, every game console from the 1972 "The Magnavox Odyssey" to the PS5, action figures from various popular TV shows and comics, an old KFC bucket with half eaten chicken on the coffee table and a shelf with a huge vinyl record and CD collection.
Conclusion: What a fucking gross nerd.
America offers a cold can of Coca-Cola, I accept it.
He shows me a very long light blue "Long Furby" from his collection, further proving how much of a dork he was.
When asked what kind of music he liked (in regards to his music collection), he replies:
"That's hard to answer, it changes every week. Because of my diverse music, I pretty much like everything. One week I could be listening to 1980's classic rock, 2000's techno-pop, Bluegrass Country, 1990's Hip Hop or anything. But, if I had to give you this week's favorite artist, it would have to be Taylor Swift and Doja Cat."
"Interesting..." I replied.
I have recorded enough data for today (the smell was bothering me) and left his home to do further extensive research.
Headcanons:
America has a deep love for cars and trucks, he can be seen working on his vintage 1968 Dodge Charger R/T called 'Thunderbird' (an absolute speed demon that can reach at top speeds of muthafuckin' 156 mph), and his enormous 2019 Ford F-150 'Big John' that he loves to drive to world meetings because he is a total stud muffin showoff.
Oh yeah, he defiantly modded 'Big John' horns with airblasters. So when he parks his car and he sees other nations come out of their vehicles, he pounds on that horn and scares the living shit out of them.
He totally does 2 am donuts in the Thunderbird the front of Walmart parking lots with his brother Canada to freak him out.
Other than seeing him work on his cars while listening to "Waking Up in Vegas by Katy Perry" on the radio, he's in his room sorting out his action figure and comic book collection.
Damn, what what a geek.
He has an eBay account where he buys, trades and auctions his collection as his interests constantly change.
If you think him being a geek, dork and a nerd is gonna save him from getting a basic ass Stanley cup, you're wrong.
He has a navy blue one that he takes to meetings and he would get dirty looks from the other nations.
"Goddamn it America, you do not need that much coffee."
"Fuck you, you scone sucking twink. It's not coffee, it's the Panera Super Charged Lemonade mixed with Redbull."
"I beg your fucking pardon..."
He gave Canada a red one for his birthday that he also takes with him to meetings.
"Canada, mon ami~. That better not be that merde American drinks that makes your heart explode."
"No, it's Tim Hortons iced coffee."
"Well.. that's better than what America drinks..."

Today’s compilation:
Montreal Basement CD2 2000 Techno
Alright, folks, this release here marks the end of my little foray into both the tiny and fleeting Distr!ck of Montreal label and turn-of-the-millennium Montreal club music, in general. This journey started some months ago with a look at a progressive house and trance promo mix for 2000's Swirl event, which attempted to house both dance music and hip hop under the same Olympic Stadium roof; then it turned its ears towards a five-year anniversary mix for the popular Sona club; and most recently, it's been rounded out with a trio of these Distr!ck comps.
And out of those three Distr!ck CDs that I've now checked out, this Montreal Basement CD2 release from 2000 is by far the most engaging one. And it's the most varied of them all too. Everything's techno, but it presents a solid spectrum of different techno sounds, from the deep and atmospheric type to the more primal and ravey stuff. I didn't end up really digging most of it, but it kept me on my toes and managed to entertain from start to finish, which is a whole lot more than I can say about the two other Distr!ck CDs I listened to 😅.
So, the best track on here is definitely the first one, which comes courtesy of Misstress Barbara—someone I heaped a bunch of praise upon in my last Distr!ck of Montreal post from about a week ago. And in that post, I specifically marveled at her tribal techno prowess, but with "Endless Passion A2," she manages to craft a sweet techno tune that's not tribal at all. Instead, it's a slightly mechanical thing that has this nicely bonging and softly pulsating synth layer at the bottom and then gets crowned with a bevy of ring-jing-jinging hi-hats. A really lovely, hypnotic, and well-oiled techno groove there. My favorite techno tunes tend to be the ones that feel like they have a lot of cogs in them that are each doing their own little part to make the whole song function, and this one makes for a pretty good example of it. Plus, I also love a constant hi-hat that rustles or jingles too 😌.
But that's really the only song that I think is worth highlighting here. The rest of these are better than what's on the vast majority of the other Distr!ck comps, but I wouldn't call any of them all that excellent. Good efforts, though; nothing listless, at least.
Au revoir to this late 90s-early 2000s Montréal dance fare. Another multi-post electronic trip on the way. Stay tuned for more!

Ok wait Tucker thought that I’ve had in my head for a hot minute and I think you might appreciate it:
If Danny Phantom were to have a more modern setting (be it hypothetical reboot or just like. Your typical ignoring the mid-2000’s ness of the show fan content) It is vitally important to me that Tucker still has his PDA and all his clunky 2000’s and older technology. He’s a techno geek and he calls himself that unironically because he’s retro like that and he owns it. He’s the guy who brings like a Walkman to school and listens to it in class and gets away with it because he technically didn’t bring a phone. He has that much swag.
no yes!!! I love how dated he is in particular, and I like when people do crossover fics but leave tucker's stuff the way it is and people are just like "why the fuck do you have a PDA in the year of our lord 2023??"
And like all of his stuff runs like unrealistically well too, its completely oughts nostalgia bait, but in the best way possible.

Class 1-A Boys + music they listen to 🎵🎧 (PART 1)
Tumblr media
Ojiro and Shoji would a b s o l u t e l y vibe together to meditation music, yk like the two most calmest bois of 1-A inviting each other to their dorms to chat, study or hang out to meditate after training to find some inner peace within themselves 😊✌️
Koda gives Animal Crossing vibes so much (probably plays Animal Crossing too 🥺) so he would listen to cutecore music for enjoyment, maybe a a bit of lofi if he has to study. Nervous boi would be so scared of showing off his music to his classmates because of how they would feel about it 🥺
Izuku loves all pop songs from 2000's to now pop music. But if you ask who is his favorite artist...probably Shawn Mendes, Harry Styles or Boywithuke. The first song he got attached to was 'Stitches'. Other types he likes are techno and dubstep
One time, after dinner at the dorms, Izuku and Todoroki were washing dishes in the kitchen and Izuku had his headphones on listening to said song and little did todoroki know..broccoli boi started ✨singing✨ it. His lovely voice ringing through the room, making the peppermint haired boy look at him in suprise. And poor boi din't notice it until he glanced back and immediately started apologizing and blushing like a mad man lol.
Todoroki was always a man of variation but he was never introduced to much music cause you know...
Until one day..he was just scrolling around youtube and all he could see was everything ✨slowed and reverb✨
It couldn't go away from his field of vision he clicks on a slowed version of Dancin by Aaron Smith and let me tell you when he did this
Tumblr media
HE DID THIS jsgakjsbgiua
Starts to literally v i b e in his dorm room. It's like he's been teleported to another world where he can zone out and dance and when the song ended, he wanted more. Now everytime you see him, he has his earphones in listening to the sweet sounds of reverbed music (until he has to go to bed ofc cause he has curfew) and has about 200 songs on his Spotify playlist (he clearly hasn't stfu about it 😂) but outside of his new addiction, he also likes techno like Izuku does. Definitely plays it on his speaker too if hanging with the DekuSquad
When baking, Sato likes to play some indie music cause for some strange reason, it naturally speeds up the baking process for him. Yes, even the song from Lazytown Cooking by the Book (it's a guilty pleasure
Random headcanon: he gained a liking for broadway music and he had a theatre kid era once before he got into the whole baking/cooking spiel.
Tokoyami is the MOST obvious one of them all. He just loves being the emo/alt lord and loves metal/heavy metal to death. I mean probably every time he sees a new metal band he'll seek them out to see if they're good or not. He did come across a band that Kuroiro showed him once when Class B came to the dorms after the whole training tournament the band was called Nemophila ⬇️
youtube
He liked it, buuuttt he wanted 'more power' so he asked him what other bands he liked so he sent him this⬇️ Broken by the Scream
youtube
He took one look at the album art and literally thought that his twin emo is fooling him but when he listened to it holy shi- it's so good WhAt so much power 🤟😯 mans was even more shocked that it was an ✨all girl✨ band (yes even a girl did the deep voice) he was s h o o k e t h but in the greatest way possible, he even recommended this song for Jirou to listen and he NEVER does that. He includes it in his playlist and discovers there's more songs by them. He doesn't mind playing it out loud sometimes but he feels like it's only for him not being selfish or anything metal is a genre he treasures to him and doesn't give af what ppl think of it PERIODT.
Part 2 is coming soon since this part was sooo long than expected hope y'all enjoyed this part 🤟✨

DMC Questions Anon here!
What sort of music would be on each character's (that you want to talk about) Spotify Wrapped?
OOOOOOHHHHH OKAY GANG LETS SEE
Dante: Dante isn’t picky with his music choice, genres all blend together for him, but he favors Classic Rock. Def some MJ, The Scorpions, Elton John, Bon Jovi and Rolling Stones. His top song is Smooth Criminal by Micheal Jackson.
Vergil: An absolute prick. The type of guy who uses Youtube Music rather than Spotify, but I digress. Obviously a classic music elitist. Johannes Brahms, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, and on occasion Bizet. His top song is The Swan Lake (Suite) by Tchaikovsky.
Nero: He likes most rock/metal. Bring Me The Horizon, pre-hiatus Fall Out Boy, Grandson, Rare Americans and to a MUCH smaller extent; Weezer. His top song is Blasphemy by Bring Me The Horizon.
Lady: Classic Rock all the way, Queen, Rolling Stones, Blondie, the Zombies, KISS and the Kinks. Her top song is Paint it, Black.
Trish: Trish is an ABBA listener. No I will not elaborate. Top song is Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!
Nico: Salt n’ Pepa is her go to, but I also see Bell Biv Devoe. Of course, she listens to some country too, Dolly Parton and Shania Twain, even Carrie Underwood. She’s a lot like Dante, in the way her music range varies a lot. Her top song is Man! I Feel Like A Woman! by Shania Twain.
Reboot! Dante: 2000’s Trashy, poppy, clubbing, sludge mixed with industrial metal. Canonically enjoys Combichrist, but I definitely see him as a guy who fucks with 3OH!3 and Hollywood Undead, even Ke$ha. Top song? Touchin’ On My by 3OH!3
Reboot! Vergil: You know JP from Grandma’s Boy? He gives me MAJOR Vergil vibes. Anyways; he listens to industrial techno shit. Like just pure instrumental. Suicide Commando, Bicurious, and Chris Keya. His top song is Binary Space by The Algorithm.
Kat: Kat listens to Female-Led Rock; The Cranberries, Garbage, No Doubt, Pat Benatar and Joan Jett. Her top song is Stupid Girl by Garbage.
