Kaylor Timeline BEFORE VSFS 2013
It's a thread I did on my Twitter that I'll transfer here.
Once again, I used amazing Tumblr posts to do it. So I'll credit them as we go (If I need to do something else tell me, I'm new to the Tumblr etiquette).
So the official story is that Taylor and Karlie crossed path a couple of times without interacting and met for the first time at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show in 2013 🤔
Well they met A LOT of times and interacted before actually 😅
Let's see the Timeline before that VSFS in 2013!
***I'll edit this post as I find new interactions (because I feel like I'll find a lot of them) I'll add this 🆕 beside new additions and dates when it was added at the end of the post.
First meeting!
So what motivated my thread in the first place is this Interview Taylor did in 2014 with Andrew Bevan of Teen Vogue.
Here's the YouTube Link (X)
But here's the most important part of that interview:
He is saying that he introduced Karlie and Emma Stone to Taylor!!
Ok we know that Taylor met Emma at the 2008 Young Hollywood Award.
I don't think though that he is talking about that event. Because he says that he congratulated her for her cover.
Taylor did two covers with Teen Vogue, one in 2009 and one in 2011.
Following the Timeline and everything it's most likely the March 2009 one:
Tumblr media
EDIT:
Thanks to this Anon! (X)
A magazine cover is planned 2-8 months in advance, up to a year for major celebrities.
The Young Hollywood Award was on late April 2008 and the cover was for March 2009 so it make sense.
Tumblr media
So it's most likely that Taylor met karlie for the first time at the same event she met Emma for the first time.
🆕 Really cute fact.
On the Cover of that magazine, Taylor wears a dress from the Calvin Klein Spring 2009 show. (X)
Guess who walked that runway??
Karlie! (X)
I exceeded the limit of picture so click on the (X) to see the posts.
Tommy Hilfiger spring 2010 collection:
Septembre 16th 2009 Taylor attends the Tommy Hilfiger Spring Show during New York Fashion Week. (X)
Karlie was there too! (X)

🆕Met Gala 2010:
They were both at the Met Gala in 2010

🆕In Milan together
Although they were not at the same Fashion Show (that we know) Taylor and Karlie were in Milan at the same time during the Fashion Week.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another interesting facts. This could explain the "1958" reference of Timeless:
Tumblr media
Thanks to Izg on Twitter for giving me this!!
Roberto Cavalli 40th Anniversary Party:
Septembre 30th 2010
Taylor and Karlie attends the Roberto Cavalli 40th Anniversary party in Paris.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Met Gala 2011:
May 2nd 2011
Karlie and Taylor both attend the Met Gala:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is also the first time that we have confirmation of an interaction between them:
Thanks to that amazing post! (X)
Karlie said in Teen Vogue that they joked about having a baking date.
Tumblr media
Rodarte Spring 2012 fashion show:
Septembre 13th 2011
Taylor attend Rodarte Spring 2012 fashion show where Karlie walks.

Here's a link to the video (X)
Vogue Febuary 2012:
January 17th 2012
Taylor mentions Karlie in her Vogue interview: "I love Karlie Kloss! I Want to bake cookies with her!"
And this quote, made history.
Tumblr media
Karlie answers the same day:

Vogue Fashion's Night Out:
August 2012
Thanks to this post (X)
Taylor and Karlie star in the same commercial about Vogue Fashion Night Out:
youtube
Thanks to @hairpinraindrop for the video
Karlie and Taylor were present at the event too on Septembre 6th 2012
youtube
Paris 2012:
Septembre 30th 2012
Karlie walks the runway for Jean-Paul Gauthier in Paris:
Tumblr media
Taylor is in Paris at the same time to film the Begin Again MV:
Tumblr media
Funny Koincidence(?), I went back and watch that MV again, and look at the opening scene!
Tumblr media
The Love Lock Bridge!!!
Elie Saab Spring Summer 2013 show:
Octobre 3rd 2012
Taylor is still in Paris and attends The Paris Fashion Week (X) at a fashion show where I'm pretty sure Karlie walked (I'm still searching for photos/videos).
But we know that Karlie was at the Paris Fashion Week too! (Thanks Astra!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a video:
youtube
🆕Met Gala 2013
They were also both at the Met Gala in 2013. Wich was in May.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So there you have it! All of Kaylor interaction BEFORE the 2013 VSFS!
This explains the timing of it all.
Because they allegedly met at the 2013 Victoria Secret Fashion Show in Novembre.
But as we know, Taylor moved to New York because Karlie asked her:
youtube
Timestamp 1:23
And people believe that she moved there after their Big Sur trip in March 2014.
Actually. Back in January 2014, Taylor was already looking to buy an appartment near Karlie's:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she actually bought her Tribeca oenthouse in February.
Tumblr media
Thanks to Bigsurlor for this!!
So they definitly knew each other before 2013!
Edit August 19 2023: Met Gala 2010, Milan trip together and Met Gala 2013 and the appartment hunting

Mew Suppasit Jongcheveevat And Tul Pakorn Thanasrivanitchai On Love, Travel, Upcoming Projects And More
Together, the Thai stars are rewriting the rules of being a leading man in film and television all while venturing into new territories, pursuing passion projects and living their lives unapologetically.
Tumblr media
Forget everything you think you know about being a leading man. Thai actors, Mew Suppasit Jongcheveevat and Tul Pakorn “Tyler” Thanasrivanitchai, are redefining what it means to be a household name after starring in Thai boys’ love (BL) dramas.
Unlike the uninhibited and daring characters he sometimes plays on screen, Mew comes across as a reserved, soft-spoken yet confident gentleman in person. On set, he’s polite, charming and eager for feedback despite possessing a wellspring of experience in the entertainment industry. “Are my poses okay? Do I need to do anything differently?” he earnestly asks Kenneth Goh, our editor-in-chief who was art directing the shoot in Bangkok, Thailand.
Tumblr media
Mew’s rise to fame was gradual. The 32-year-old earned his stripes as a model before getting his first big break as an actor when he was cast as Pree in the Thai BL drama What The Duck: The Series (2018). The show was an instant hit in Thailand, and was brought back for a second season. But it wasn’t until his role in TharnType: The Series, where he played Tharn, a gay man who falls in love with his homophobic roommate (played by Gulf Kanawut Traipipattanapong) in university, that his star rose dramatically.
Mew is also a gifted musician. His debut album 365 ranked number three on the worldwide iTunes album chart, and was number one in 18 countries. He also became the first Thai artiste to debut an album that reached the 13th spot on iTunes’ Global Digital Artist Ranking list. He has since struck out on his own with Mew Suppasit Studio, through which he releases new music.
His success as an actor and recording artist hasn’t gone unnoticed. He caught the eye of luxury fashion brands such as Maison Valentino, Tod’s and BOSS, resulting in coveted partnerships and front row seats at Milan fashion week.
Tumblr media
In contrast, Tul exhibits golden retriever energy. Charming and enthusiastic in the flesh, he is the polar opposite of Mew on set. Tul is playful and adventurous, taking initiative on how to better bring the concept of the shoot to life. “It might be better if I stood behind Mew for this shot so we’re both facing the camera,” he thoughtfully suggests. His energy is infectious and he’s not afraid to do whatever it takes to get the best photo. On set, they are drawn to each other, playfully tugging at each other’s clothes, while warm embraces and encouraging shoulder rubs signal a close bond. After lunch, the laughs grew louder, the boyish repartee naughtier and the hugs tighter. Clearly, Mew and Tul have a special affinity with each other.
Tumblr media
Like his contemporary, Tul’s first foray into the entertainment industry was through modelling. “I was a drum major during the Chula–Thammasat Traditional Football match back in 2011, and I was scouted by a modelling agency,” he recalls. “I was later spotted modelling during a fashion show by a casting director and was asked to go on an audition. I started acting in my third year in university, accepting one production a year.”
The casting director’s eye for talent proved to be on the money—the 31-year-old shot to fame, thanks to the success of Together With Me (2018), where he played Knock, a sexually-confused university student who ends up falling in love with his gay childhood best friend. With his newfound popularity, opportunities within the fashion industry opened up for Tul as well.
Tumblr media
Another similarity between the two men is their dedication to academic excellence. Mew has a master’s degree in Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, while Tul just graduated from Columbia University with an MSc in Real Estate Development and worked as an acquisition intern at Cycamore Capital in New York City.
Mew and Tul are testament to the modern idea that there’s no one way to reach the pinnacle of success, and that there’s always room for personal and professional enrichment and time for passion projects. We sat both of them down for an intimate tête-à-tête on style, travel, upcoming projects, their goals for the new year and more.
Tumblr media
ON FASHION
Tul: How would you describe your style?
Mew: It depends. I love to mix and match. I have different types of tops that I’d mix with different bottoms, shoes and accessories.
T: Your wardrobe is huge (laughs)!
M: What about you?
T: In Thailand, anything lightweight. I’m very sensitive to the heat. I’m still experimenting with my style, but I love Korean fashion. I think the cutting is more flattering for us Asians and it’s more sophisticated. I like something minimal with details that is easy to mix and match with what you already have. For Thai fashion, I like Greyhound.
M: Handbags! You have so many bags!
T: Shoulder bags and crossbody bags. Well, the thing is, I don’t feel like dressing up much while in Thailand. So I play with bags instead.
M: I bought him a new bag last year and I only saw him use it once. You know the problem isn’t about how often he uses it. The problem is, he was whining a lot when he wanted it. But when I bought it for him, he rarely used it.
T: I used it many times! Around five times.
M: In the entire year!
T: When I want him to buy me something, I’ll send him a picture saying, ‘It’s beautiful, isn’t it?’
ON FOOD AND TRAVEL
M: Any restaurant recommendations?
T: I think Japanese restaurants are great. I like yakiniku and shabu shabu, but I really recommend grilled prawns.
M: Any good ones in Ayutthaya? Once I ate them on a raft and threw up. I guess I had seasickness. River prawns are very fatty and the raft was floating, so I felt terrible.
T: I would recommend Ginzado. It’s a Japanese yakiniku restaurant.
M: What’s your favourite food?
T: Asian food. I enjoy Thai, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean food.
M: You know what our new discovery is? Peruvian food! It’s very good.
T: Yes, Peruvian food! So good!
M: We ate it in Canada.
T: Peruvian food is like a mix of Latin and Japanese food.
M: The restaurant we ate at in Miami was very good too.
T: Yes. They have this dish that’s a lot like our Yum (spicy salad). I think Thai people will like it. If you don’t enjoy Mexican cuisine, you might like Peruvian.
M: Do you always plan your trips or just go with the flow?
T: I always plan.
M: Overplan, more like it! He’s the one in charge of trips, and the itinerary is always just nice—not too packed.
T: I told you I can be obsessive-compulsive. When we travel, I want the best things at the best price. It needs to be cost-efficient. When you need to be somewhere at a certain point in time—such as seeing the sunrise at a particular spot—I will do everything to make sure we get to see the sunrise. I plan everything in advance and I don’t want anyone in the group to have to pay for something unnecessarily expensive. If, at some time, business class tickets are excessively costly and premium economy is more value for money, then we should do premium economy. I’ll be attentive to everyone’s rewards and mileage to ensure they don’t need to pay extra when they can redeem miles.
M: He will have all the information on hand like, if we’re going somewhere and need to use a particular airline, we should apply for this and that in advance, so we have benefits like better seats or baggage allowance.
ON WHAT’S NEXT
T: What are your plans for this year?
M: Last year, I worked on many projects, series and movies, so you’ll see a lot of my work both on television and in cinema. I’ll be back working on music soon as well. In addition, I have a fan meet around my birthday in February, so I’m looking forward to meeting my supporters there. Among the projects that I’ve completed is Mon Rak Luk Thung, a remake of a classic Thai musical rom-com. This is my first time singing many luk thung [folk] songs.
T: I’m thinking of seriously moving away from entertainment, and focussing on my family business. I’m currently working as a project manager for our new project in Bangna. It’s a community mall with a fresh food market. In the future, I would love to work in property management. I enjoy exploring residential and housing projects. I want to do something that offers customers high-quality products and a good quality of life. This is also the reason why I pursued my postgraduate study.
M: What are your goals for 2024?
T: I want to have a sexier body. I want to have time for the gym no matter what I have going on at work. Another goal of mine is to make more use of what I’ve learned in the US in my life. I want to be working on more tangible projects.
M: I have never had a chance to use any of the things I learned during my postgraduate studies (laughs). The research I did… I’ve used none of it.
ON THEMSELVES
W: How would you describe yourself?
T: I’m a worrywart. I think too much about every little thing despite my image as a very sociable extrovert. But when I’m on my own, I’m quite obsessive-compulsive; I will tidy my rooms and fold my clothes.
M: Everyone thinks he’s easy-going and very laid-back, but in reality, he’s a worrywart. He really, really thinks about everything. He keeps worrying about others.
T: It depends. I thought I could handle social media better as I got older but sometimes, I feel like I’m not as good at it as I could be. That said, after years in showbiz, I’m better at letting go and not letting it affect me as much.
M: I’m the opposite of Tul. He’s a worrywart despite his easy-going image. I look like I’m overthinking but in reality, I’m much more laid-back.
T: Exactly (laughs)!
ON LOVE
T: What’s your favourite love quote?
M: I don’t know… I’ve never thought of it.
T: Just Google ‘love quote’ and pick one you like.
M: For real? Okay, let’s see… Top 10 Love Quotes…
T: My love quote is ‘Bitch, I say what I say.’
M: What should I choose…what about this one? It’s quite short. ‘When there is love, there is life.’

The Bugle's been going for sixteen years, as of October 15, 2023. I like that date, because it's only two days after my birthday. I enjoy that around my birthday every year, The Bugle also has a little birthday celebration. And they do. On their very first birthday, in October 2008, they had cake in the studio in England where Andy Zaltzman was and in New York where John Oliver was and they celebrated their project surviving for a year and it was really sweet. And every since then, they do something like that. Last year, they marked the big fifteenth anniversary with a tour of live shows, and a special John and Andy reunion episode that made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes while listening to it on a bus, prompting me to pull my mask up and hat down to hide my reaction, but it wasn't quite enough to avoid getting a few strange looks.
No big tour this year, but Andy Zaltzman did write a special In The Bin section with some nice callbacks, that I transcribed for the Bugle fans on Tumblr who might not be following the current version of the podcast but enjoy references to the original:
Andy Zaltzman: As always, a section of this podcast is going straight in the bin. This week: a special Bugle sixteenth birthday commemorative section. At sixteen now, The Bugle can start voting in some parts of the world, including, crucially, Ecuador, and the Channel Island of Sark. So that’s very exciting, that we can now vote in those parts of the world. Anuvab Pal: It’s time to rig some elections in Ecuador, that’s what I’m thinking. Andy Zaltman: Look, Bugles, if you want an election near you rigged, just email us and we will do what we can. The Bugle can now buy cigarettes, although obviously it wouldn’t want to; if a podcast starts coughing and spluttering it’s not a great listen. It also means that The Bugle is, depending on where you listen to it, now legally allowed to consent to, um, uh, be played at the same time as another podcast, also over the age of sixteen, I think. Sadly, the minimum age for marriage in the UK was recently raised from sixteen to eighteen, so the planned wedding between The Bugle and the 2001-born TV drama series 24 will not be happening yet. Bit of an age gap, but it would have been fascinating to see Jack Bauer’s comedic take on the week’s global news, and to see what storylines they came up with for The Bugle. Could the Los Angeles counter-terrorist unit stop The Bugle’s Machiavellian scheme to establish a professional four-day cricket championship in California before it was too late? I, personally, would have watched that repeatedly. Also, The Bugle can, at the age of sixteen, and this is not a moment too soon, now go and get a proper job. It can also change its name, legally, and from what I’ve heard, from sources close to The Bugle, it is considering a change of name, at this point, at age sixteen. Amongst the possibilities: The Barak Obama Interview Show – apparently there are certain legal issues with that; Zaltor the Merciless Dispenses Wise Judgement to His Adoring Yet Fearful Subjects – I can see that working; Bible Studies with Mildred and Herbit – bit of a mix-up; Andy Zaltzman’s Fashion, Style, and Romance Tipscast – let me live my dream; Tonight Last Week – I’m not sure that’ll work; and Two Celebrities Phone it in and Take the Cash – I mean you have to adapt to the changing podcast market. Or, uh, Hot Rod and Dragster Ride Again. All those are possibilities, but that section is in the bin.
I think I said "Aww..." out loud about three times during that part. The little references! To Hot Rod and Dragster, that time in 2011 when Chris Skinner made a brief joke about those being fun nicknames for Andy Zaltzman and John Oliver and it was meant to be immediately forgotten, but the fans addressed emails to those names for years. The little reminder of how John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman spent the first few years of The Bugle really into the TV show 24, which sounded especially weird coming from Andy because he never likes anything that isn't sport or the music of Boney M, it's so rare to hear him be a normal person who gets excited about a mainstream thing in popular culture, to the point where he first started referencing 24 I thought he was being ironic, but eventually it became clear that he had actually binged every episode and just wanted to talk about it. And obviously he also threw in a reference to that show Week Last Tonight or whatever. Small references to Bugle history in the 2023 anniversary section.

2007 & 2008 Lover Diaries Transcripts
Apr 8, 2007- Nashville, TN -> Los Angeles, CA
I’m on the plane on the way to L.A. because we’re playing the opening day for the Dodgers tomorrow. Yeah. It’s Easter. I packed for LA and we (mom + I) went to the airport. At the gate, I got recognized by all these girls on a softball team, and this couple whose daughters love my cd … It happens everywhere I got now – at lunch it happened 5 times. So I signed the teams autographs and took pictures. Then they asked me to play a song (not thinking I’d say yes), so Emily, Grant, Ben, and I pulled out our instruments and played ‘Our Song’ and 'Teardrops On My Guitar’ right there in the airport terminal. Ha. It was fun. Now we’re just sitting here on the plane … Doing nothing. It’s exactly a week til the CMT Music Awards, and I am SO nervous.
Dec 30, 2007- Nashville, TN
I apologize for not writing in so long. A lot has happened... Let's see, Christmas. It was great... Austin and Andrea had their minds set on drying the turkey this year, so the day before Christmas eve, my friend and I went to WalMart to buy a turkey fryer. Apparently no one in the store knew where a turkey fryer would be located. So, one hour and 50 million "Will you sign this"'s later, we had a turkey fryer, which we found in the garden section. Of all paces. Frying the turkey was a cute idea. I give mom credit for being creative. They had their little rig set up in the back yard and the 70 barrels of oil... it was great. When it actually came to making edible food, that's where the whole thing fell apart. The turkey actually melted in the turkey fryer. It was disgusting. We had a vegetarian Christmas dinner. Present exchanging was cool. I painted my dad 2 paintings for his office, and mom cried like a baby when we played The Best Day DVD I made for her. I got an iphone from my parents, and I'm so obsessed with it, it's not even funny. It's my soulmate.
May 11, 2008- New York City, NY
Hey … This past week has been amazing and CRAZY! I’ve been in New York City doing all kinds of fashion stuff. I got invited to this event called ‘The Met Gala,’ which is THE party of the year, put on by Vogue. Each designer picks a celebrity to wear one of their new dresses from their new line, and I was picked/invited by Badgley Mischka, this AMAZING team of designers. I’ve loved their dresses for so long, and was SO excited when I got word that I was picked by them. The red carpet for the gala was held on the stone steps up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There was a tent over it, and paparazzi on each side of the stairs. When we got out, the paps started SCREAMING for me. It was crazy. We made our way up the red carpet, posing for everyone. All of the women looked so glamorous in their gowns. We got to the top of the stairs and waited in a long line to greet the hosts of the evening: Anna Wintour of Vogue, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Giorgio Armani. Along the sides of the long carpet we were on, models stood as decoration, standing still and wearing gorgeous gowns. Then we went into the cocktail area. I saw every celebrity ever created. Scarlett Johansson, Gisele, Tom Brady, Beyonce, Jon Bon Jovi (who called me over to talk to him), Victoria Beckham, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, EVERYONE.

The first time I saw a Vivienne Westwood dress in the wild was while shopping for my best friend’s wedding, almost 10 years ago. She told me she wanted something black, not white, something in the sale, something she could wear after the wedding and – turning to face me on the middle of London’s Regent Street, added: “something that will stretch because I’m six weeks pregnant”. So off we went to the Vivienne Westwood store on Conduit Street in London, and left half an hour later with a loose black silk sleeveless pencil dress, with a draped neckline and ruched waist with plenty of give. She successfully wore it, five weeks later and 11 weeks pregnant, to her wedding.
Vivienne Westwood, who died on Thursday night, could pack more contradictions into one collection than most designers could in a lifetime. But in her clothes, she did the one thing designers are unable – or rather unwilling – to do. That is, make fancy stuff for real people with real bodies, making her truly the mother of all fashion contradictions.
Probably more famous for her transgressive marriage of punk and fashion in the late 70s – for dressing the Sex Pistols in rips, and Adam and the Ants in Elizabethan blouses – it wasn’t until the late 80s and 90s that Westwood began making proper tailored clothes by dissecting existing pieces, inadvertently changing the landscape of high-end womenswear.
The best example is perhaps her 1990 Portrait Collection show. Here, skirts were full, waists were boned and bosoms spilled. The models who took part in her shows were thin – but in spite of this, some of the clothes seemed to support their wearer, somehow making them look fuller. Removed from their catwalk context, they didn’t just expand the definition of acceptable body type; they encouraged it.
This was part of Westwood’s shtick, of course. If trends went one way, she went another. But at the time, viewed between the wide-shouldered soft power of fashion’s main New York players such as Donna Karan and the “heroin chic” thriving within its subcultures, Westwood’s 90s aesthetic was an outlier, exaggerating the female form rather than reducing it. The 18th-century-inspired gowns were not outrageous because they showed their wearer’s knickers, but because they understood what fashion for women with breasts and bums wasn’t – which was fashionable.
“All my clothes are really sexy, about meeting the body and making it look attractive and powerful,” she said, at the 2004 launch of her V&A retrospective. “I aim to make people look important.” Among her fans were undoubtably famous and powerful women – most famously the artist Tracey Emin, the actor Christina Hendricks (who also fronted a Vivienne Westwood campaign in 2011) and the shape shifter Kim Kardashian. Celebrities, yes, but also women with bodies who relied on clothes that celebrate the female form.
Not everything Westwood made in the 90s was about wearability, of course. Just ask teenage Naomi Campbell, who fell on her 1993 catwalk in 9in platforms, or Kate Moss, who in 1995 walked out wearing just a skirt while eating a Magnum. Nor is body image something Westwood particularly wanted to interrogate with her clothes (it’s telling that in a 2018 documentary, she described her approach to fashion not as attacking the establishment, but as “a distraction”). She cared about animals, and was a vegetarian, but partly because her favourite food was lettuce – she once alleged that she and her husband, Andreas, went through one iceberg a day.
It could also be said that Westwood, perhaps hypocritically, deployed nudity as a shock tactic rather than anything more helpful, particularly later in her career. When Pamela Anderson, her one-time muse – in politics too, with both campaigning for the release of Julian Assange – walked in a show in 2009, and revealed a nipple during the final bow, the effect was mainly comic.
Still, as someone who dressed punks, then supermodels, translating the shock tactics of one movement into the other through plaid and scissor-work, she pioneered a rebelliousness that often led to change. In 2017, her catwalk show was one of a few that season to include menswear and womenswear. What seemed like a gimmick then was actually fairly progressive – this is fairly normal practice now. Still, as the clothing was sold in separate departments, the only real way to identify the unisex stuff was to check the label.
Not all catwalk shows have real-world impact – and as empowering as it was to see heaving bosoms on her catwalks, how many women think of a catwalk show when hunting for something to wear? They did with Vivienne Westwood. As my pregnant friend walking down the aisle in a black dress proves, the clothes actually worked for women in the real world.

AGE - AGEISM IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY
HOW OLD IS TOO OLD?
The pressure women face to defy ageing is a subject I’ve spoken about many times in the past. While our male contemporaries are viewed as distinguished and wise, women are subject to the double whammy of ageism and sexism. With one or two exceptions, female broadcasters and more generally women on TV and in the movies, are allowed to grow old as long as they look a certain way. Tweaked to take the years off, old but not too old. And when we’re ‘grey and stout’ rather than being valued for our experience and wisdom, we’re simply replaced by a younger model.
In a recent report entitled Retiring Ageism, SunLife (a financial services company for the over-50s) claimed that ‘ageism is everywhere’ and stated that ‘78% of Brits over-50 said they haven’t seen an accurate representation of their age bracket from companies or celebrities in the past year.’ And ‘56% feel most misrepresented by the fashion industry.’ Yikes.
It’s no secret that fashion labels tend to prioritise youthful aspiration over a realistic depiction of what their customer actually looks like. Up until quite recently, older women were pretty much absent from advertising despite the 50-plus market being responsible for 51% of the UK’s total wealth and the largest growth area for fashion expenditure. Between 2011 and 2018, there was a £2.9 bn (21%) growth in spending on clothes and shoes by the over-50s; set to increase by £11bn from 2019- 2040 according to the International Longevity Centre. Say hello to the Power of the Silver Spend, the Grey and Stout Pound, or whatever you want to call it. Brands who are honest with themselves about who their target customer actually is, that use relevant and realistic models – and provide us with good quality basics – are going to reap the rewards.
Fashion should include everyone. Women of all ages, sizes, ethnicities, women with disabilities, non-binary women. The landscape has changed but diversity isn’t a fad or a hashtag. One older woman on a website (or a catwalk) is not enough.

HOW YOUNG IS TOO YOUNG?
Living a life many young girls around the world dream of, Sofia Mechetner is opening the Paris fashion show of one of the world's most famous labels, Dior. She is 14 years old, an age some feel is too young to be working in a cutthroat industry.
"I feel ready and I am not alone, I am being looked after, closely," the Israeli model said. "They are treating me really nicely here ... They help me. So the fact that I am 14 years old is not really an issue."
Mechetner, who used to help her mother clean houses to make ends meet, was catapulted into the limelight in July when she opened Dior's haute couture show wearing a sheer white dress. Her appearance drew criticism and stirred the debate on where to draw the age line in fashion, an industry often criticised for using skinny models. "Before she started with Dior, she was cleaning houses with her mother. So if she is not too young to clean houses, I don't think she is too young to walk on a show," Mechetner's agent Rotem Gur said.
The use of young models in fashion is not new. Kate Moss was scouted at 14 while Naomi Campbell was 15. However there have been industry moves to make changes, notably during the biannual catwalk shows. Designers contracted to London Fashion Week must use models aged 16 or over. New York has similar age guidelines.

Zendaya stuns in vintage Roberto Cavalli at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards
Tumblr media
Zendaya - Green Carpet Fashion Awards The Dune: Part Two star celebrated sustainable fashion alongside Chrissy Teigen, Annie Lennox and Donatella Versace. Zendaya made a statement in vintage fashion at this year’s Green Carpet Fashion Awards. The actor wore a grey fringed Roberto Cavalli gown from the spring/summer 2011 collection, with a deep-V neckline and an open back. Zendaya is used to wearing vintage fashion for events. For his autumn/winter 1995 collection, she wore a cyborg suit designed by Thierry Mugler to the premiere of Dune: Part Two in London. Zendaya Her Roberto Cavalli outfit at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards taps into the resurgence of the boho trend – recently seen during Paris Fashion Week at new creative director Chemena Kamali’s autumn/winter 2024 collection for Chloe. Zendaya co-chaired this year's event with Helen Hunt, Julianne Moore, Annie Lennox, Livia Firth, and Cate Blanchett. The Green Carpet Fashion Awards unite fashion and entertainment for positive change, promoting interconnected cultural transformation. Celebrities like Chrissy Teigen wore vintage fashion on the pink carpet at Hotel West Hollywood. Teigen, 38, wore a classic black slip dress with sheer panels from Saint Laurent’s autumn/winter 2022 collection. Chrissy Teigen Donatella Versace, 68, wore a pale pink chainmail dress from her label. The dress was worn fresh off the success of Versace's latest show at Milan Fashion Week. Additionally, it's worth noting that the simple shimmering style has been a Versace signature since the 1990s, when Gianni Versace was in charge. Donatella Versace Broken Glass singer Annie Lennox, 69, wore a simple black suit with a T-shirt that said ‘Global Feminist’ in white lettering. Lennox chose her outfit to promote global feminism, which embraces intersectionality as a way forward. Annie Lennox  “If we fight among each other, if we’re too singular in what we do, then we don’t have a solidarity – and we need it.” Lennox continued: “Global feminism is an umbrella term that includes all kinds of feminism. Everyone needs a safe, inclusive space where people of diverse backgrounds can work towards a better world. “We are working for the betterment of young girls that are coming up into a planet that it’s not guaranteed what the future is going to look like. We must support each other, that’s the best solution, I honestly think.” She particularly praised Green Carpet Fashion Awards founder Livia Firth, who is “positivity on steroids”, she said, and has a “deep understanding and passion about climate justice, the fashion industry, and ecology”. Italian activist Firth wore black flared trousers with a velvet-style plum jacket and tank top on the pink carpet. Green Carpet Fashion Awards founder Livia Firth Helen Hunt wore an all-white outfit to the event. The dress was a midi with a slight shimmer. Actor and director Helen Hunt Michaela Jae Rodriguez wore a strapless black gown and red statement earrings. She's an actor, singer, and model for Charlotte Tilbury Beauty. Supermodel Amber Valletta, 50, recently helped relaunch Donna Karan New York alongside Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Karlie Kloss, and others. She wore a black mini dress with a dramatic scooped back. Read the full article
