Leyna Bloom makes history in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue Written by Leah Dolan, CNN Leyna Bloom is the first first Black and Asian transgender woman to be featured in a Swimsuit Issue of Sports Illustrated, hitting stands in July. The American model and actress initially made headlines as the first trans woman of color to star in a movie that premiered at Cannes Film Festival, 2019’s “Port Authority.” In a statement to CNN Style, Sports Illustrated praised Leyna Bloom’s “undeniable sense of self that shines through the minute she walks on set.” Leyna Bloom walks the runway for Chromat Spring/Summer 2020 during New York Fashion Week Credit: Mike Coppola/Getty Images “(Leyna’s) story represents one grounded in resilience and we couldn’t be more thrilled to help her tell it,” the statement continued. “Her presence as the first trans woman of color to be in our issue is a result of her lifetime dedication to forging her own path that has led to acceptance, love and change. She represents every person’s right to love themselves and be who they want to be.” Sports Illustrated has marked a number of firsts in recent history. In 1997, Tyra Banks became the first Black woman to have a solo cover featured on SI’s Swimsuit Issue. Ashley Graham became one of the title’s first plus-size cover models in 2016, and in 2019, Banks returned and became the publication’s oldest cover star. Bloom, who is Black and Filipina, is only the second transgender woman to ever be featured in a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Last year, Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio became the first. Bloom told CNN Style that being in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue “is an incredible feeling and achievement,” but added “that there’s still so much work to be done for more representation.” Leyna Bloom at the Award Ceremony during the 45th Deauville American Film Festival in 2019. ‘Gabrielle Chanel. Manifeste de Mode’ Exhibition
The ‘Gabrielle Chanel. Manifeste de Mode’ exhibition, supported by Chanel, is the first retrospective about Gabrielle Chanel ever to be held in France.
It was due to take place back in March at the Palais Galliera; which would’ve also been a celebration of the reopening of the museum after 2 years of renovation, but due to the pandemic, it finally opened on October 1.
Chanel ambassadors Marion Cotillard and Vanessa Paradis attended the reopening.
Marion Cotillard: The face of Chanel No.5 wore a Chanel Fall 2020 Haute Couture red tweed dress which incorporated an off-the-shoulder design to keep the classic look feeling fresh.
I’m on the fence when it comes to her hair.
On the one hand a ballerina bun would’ve imbued some a supreme level of sophistication for the look, but on the other hand, the relaxed nature of the styling is oh so Marion, as she oozes that Parisian, “I just threw this on” chic that I love.
Vanessa Paradis: The French actress was looking equally chic wearing a look from Chanel’s Fall 2019 Haute Couture collection.
The faux feathers and tiered skirt gives this look a lighter than air vibe, to enhance the effortless nature of Vanessa’s beauty.
Even though I can’t see the full length, I’m pretty confident that she wore those Chanel tuxedo shoes, as they were her go-to during the Deauville American Film Festival last month.
