okay so i used to follow the overwatch league up to the 2020 season and ive been missing it a lil and decided to watch some old (ancient) matches from 2018, (which is just about the only old owl matches you can still find with any sort of ease)

then got bored and since the owl has been going continuously since then, i watched a lil from the 2022 season

and like. yeah i expected changes i know theyve been adding heroes to overwatch and changing the rules and overwatch 2 is a thing now??? i lost track of it a long time ago tbh ive not been following this for like 3 years

anyway okay different arena different stage - it’s only 5 people per team now huh?? oh Carpe is still there its nice to see a familiar face. what the casters tearing into him now cus hes been there too long??? okay uber and mr x literally the same casters as we saw in the inaugural season. lay off the good man Carpe fucking rocks okay hes a great player and i literally dont know anyone else in this whole match. only 1 tank now per team which is sad i loved watching the flex tank players. new heroes that im not familar with i was expecting that

The Red Soul Trait

First, we need to quickly dispel the initial “ReD sOuL iS dEtErMiNaTiON?!”

It’s been mentioned several times in the game that all human SOULs have determination, and even Undyne has determination. It is not exclusive to the red SOUL for some reason. It’s also only ever shown in yellow text. Now:

When you consider the game mechanics of all the SOULs you’ll find that:

Bravery - Has to keep moving (forward)

Justice - Has to align itself in a particular direction

Integrity - Has to obey the laws (of gravity / physics)

Kindness - Has to stay still and only defend itself

Perseverance - Has to be bound by strict limitations

Patience - Has to wait until the right time before it can move

You’ll notice that all the SOUL traits are bound by specific rules that inherently end up defining them and their uniqueness, as opposed to them all being the same thing.

However, the red SOUL does not have any binding rules, and such it has nothing that defines it. In fact, it has the ability to temporarily become the other SOUL traits. Essentially, it has no traits and simultaneously can have every trait. It has nothing and yet everything, with no limitations on it’s movement nor constraints on it’s ability to be other traits.

No limitations... No constraints... what’s that word that fits the description again?

Oh right:

Kris’s dark world room in Chapter 2 of Deltarune actually shows some insight into what it means to be free, or more precisely, what it really means to “be yourself” when you have basically no defining traits:

And yet we don’t change into any new clothes. Kris is probably the type of kid to wear the same outfit to school every day. (Coming from personal experience)

People like to label themselves to try to find some semblance of what “being yourself” is. That’s what the traits really boil down to. But in the case of the red SOUL, once you analyze what it really means to "be yourself” you’ll find that it’s ironically a lack of labels, a lack of being defined.

The red SOUL is free of all defining traits, and yet having the ability to very briefly tap into one trait. All the traits at once, and yet none of them.

In conclusion, the most simple answer to the red SOUL’s trait is Freedom.

You could do anything, be anything, wear anything... but you won’t, perpetually keeping your options open to you. That is the freedom trait.

I, a stranger on the internet, experienced the timeline of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom as follows:

January 2013: Breath of the Wild was first announced (then referred to as "Zelda U"). I was in elementary school.

March 2017: Breath of the Wild is released. I was partway through high school.

June 2019: Tears of the Kingdom was announced (known as BotW2). I was graduated by then.

May 2023: Tears of the Kingdom is released. I will have my Bachelor's degree and am 100% fucking celebrating with this game.

This is ignoring the fact that the previous console Zelda was Skyward Sword which was released ~18 months before BotW was announced, thus drawing out the timeline even further.

#despite TotK's release cycle being a whole year longer than BotW #many people feel like the wait for BotW is longer #I have a couple theories #I think that not only did both BotW and SS release at the end of a console generation #but BotW is identified as a Switch game vs a SS's Wii game status #also in the time frame between SS and BotW; A Link Between Worlds; WW and TP HD; Hyrule Warriors were all released in the interim #and mm:3d and triforce heroes as well #while between botw and totk there was just... links awakening remake; age of calamity; and cadence of hyrule #and skyward sword:HD + Hyrule Warriors deluxe #and so while you would think there would be a lot more *waiting* #highly eventful periods of time are remembered as lasting longer than uneventful spans #also once again BotW had DLC which extends the lifetime of the game #not to mention that BotW undergone two separate 1-year delays #while TotK technically had one 6/7 month one #so having game after game released in that short time frame #this isn't even mentioning 2020 just ruining everyone's sense of time cause of covid #zelda #legend of zelda #the legend of zelda #loz #breath of the wild #tears of the kingdom #botw2 #breath of the wild 2 #nintendo #nintendo switch #nintendo direct #video games #games #time is fucking wack yo
