1. How many works do you have on AO3? 86… wow! 61 of them are from the past 3 years (2020-2023) and then the other 25 span from (2011-2019) (would not recommend)

2. What's your total AO3 word count? 827,446!

3. What fandoms do you write for? Right now I’m writing mainly for Oz and 成化十四年 (if you count a very slooooow moving WIP). Other fandoms: X-Men comics, Hamlet, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, HxH, Need for Speed, Avengers, 狂飙, TWD, and Nikita (lol). I have also written for a couple fandoms that I left behind in my ffnet days/orphaned works for on ao3.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Once I actually started participating in fandom, I realised that this was something people strive to do, so I try to respond more now as well. Previously I did not respond to comments because I didn’t like how Ao3 counts author comments in the number of comments/reviews a fic had. I used to want to know exactly how many other people commented on my fic, probably because I got so few comments lol, and then it was just a habit not to reply. I try harder to reply now because I also like it when authors reply to my comments :)

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? LOL major character death fic, When Tomorrow Comes, EASILY. I legit cried while cooking when I was making dinner during the time that I was writing this. The masochism was real but the sadism was realer (making the group chat reap what they sowed lol)

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Hm! I have a couple that are rather fluffy but I would say the harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun (yeah yeah... hozier lyric title. sue me). They get married~

8. Do you get hate on fics? I tend to write small ships and rarepairs, so I think that’s sort of impossible tbh. I did get flamed a couple of times on ffnet back in those days, but... the joke was on the ppl flaming me, probably. You were expecting greatness from a 12 year old.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I write really cringe explicit scenes (not on purpose... that’s just how they turn out imo) but I've nver written pwp or anything.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? We shan’t speak of it and you’ll never find it, either.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of… again, I don’t really write stuff that gets on anyone’s radar, I don’t think.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! I have had 5 fics translated into Russian and one translated into Chinese! <3

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? The crossover that shall not be named.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship? I know my url is literally rongzhi but believe me when I say I don't have one lol

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? (puts head in my hands) I don’t want to way I won’t finish things but I have multiple rongzhi wips still on the back burner (I’m committed to finishing at least ONE of them for sure)… Ugh, but of the fics I've already started posting, I doubt I’ll ever finish The Nineteenth Year of Chenghua or after the autumn breeze. Sadly, I was a little too ambitious about starting both multi-chapter fics. I’m more broken up about the former though, because it is EXACTLY my cup of tea… as a reader! Lol. I don't know... Maybe... I have bits and pieces written but 🙄

16. What are your writing strengths? I wanna say uhhhh dialogue?? According to trusted sources (much screaming and cursing), I have also been known to write some pretty devastating angst!

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Description for sure… Plot… sometimes, if there is one… Probably not the best…

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I'll write other languages into the dialogue of a fic if it's in character/appropriate. I don't see any issue in that—only issue is for ME... if I don't speak the language, I have to research how to make it not sound too machine translated, because I know how silly that will come across to native/fluent speakers if they read it. Even for my cfandom fics, there are some words like honorifics that I just romanise because I don't like to translate them to whatever the eng subs say.

19. First fandom you wrote for? I wrote Harry Potter fanfic in third grade before I knew what fanfic was, I guess. And then I wrote Harry Potter x Twilight fanfic in middle school once I did ... No, I do not come from noble beginnings... No, the HPxTwi crossovers are not the one that shall not be named. I also wrote a lot of X-men (comics) fanfic before I knew what fic was!

20. Favorite fic you've written? HMMM… Kind of partial to Bolt From The Blue (Is it bc Susu has gassed me up about it so much? Who can say?) (jk, I am very proud of that one and I did enjoy write it a lot!). More recently, I really like writing In the Blink of an Eye, just because it was in 2nd person which I haven’t written since my Homestuck days (you’ll never find those fics either). It was just fun to write!

Life Update(s)

Hi!! I don't know who's still hanging around in this specific fandom corner, but this post goes out to you. Or, specifically, anyone still waiting for a fic update.

Sorry, there's only bad news, I think. In this phase of my life, I think it's safe to say I'm not going to be continuing Run the Gauntlet or any other iterations of the Sister-in-Arms storyline, including my other characters. Maybe no fanfiction in general for a while (or forever).

If you ever knew me from back in 2020 (Discord, here, AO3, etc), I have nothing but fond memories of when we'd workshop stories, share fanart, and just be happy together about HBO War in the literal dark void of that cursed year. I think the fact that it was so cursed was the only reason I was ever able to start or write so much of SiA. In a way, I think SiA is very cursed also, as a result of it being created within my covid headspace. These days I'm gearing up for a MS degree, preparing to graduate, and busy doing various spontaneous things that, tbh, are much more fun than banging out a thousand words a day in a dark room at midnight, even if I do still love to slip back into the I-am-June-in-my-mind headspace every now and then.

I apologize again for the sustained waiting for something I just didn't have the endurance to finish. It was a good run but it didn't end up amounting to a finished epic. That's okay. I learned more than I ever have before about the art of writing through the process, and am a better writer for it. Hopefully my first actual finished longpiece is going to end up on your local library fantasy-sci-fi shelf someday, under a different name. You won't even know it's me :)

I had talked about it before in a previous sidestep ask months back buuut i will answer it again wheezes

In a world where Anita was never found by Ortega, they would've let the media decide for them and it would've been Mastermind by default (and in one of my 2020 runs, I did let the media decided and they did get called Mastermind for it!)

So, Harbinger.

In the current timeline, Anita had tried to find a name that had a comfortable way to say it without being mouthful, since they're not the type to be really show off. They just want something that is simple and plain. Beside, their plans remain the same- seeking the truth out of a shitty government and wanting to tell others ahead of their enemy...

Harbinger is the word they decided to use. They likely came across it from one of the big dictionaries when they were musing over the names. It suits them very well.

(...And it may be a unforunate name because years down the road, someone Ortega will nicknamed them as 'Harby'-)

12) do they prefer to solve things diplomatically or through violence?

That's depend on the situations they're in. They will either talk things out or had no choice but to cause the means to do violence. It's also depend on the person they're facing too.

If is a target- or a enemy of their own, they will willing to fight them until they're half dying or knocked out, usually with the mix of cautious and reckless on their side, especially in their armor. (They're aware of how powerful their armor is, so they try not to overuse it and have to be careful with it). They don't kill, they merely either overwhelm them or render them to unconscious, and before doing so, always to scare them enough.

And as for talking... Again, depend on the situation- either they have to talk things out or to use telepathy, they have to outsmart them, think on their feet, and let's go. That's Harbinger to you!

22) how do they feel about their telepathy? is it a gift? a curse?

Pre-Sidestep, Anita thinks it is a curse. Sidestep!Anita thinks it is a gift and Harbinger!Anita.... They're not sure anymore.

Once upon a time, they thought it was a curse because it tied to the Farm, it was a reminder of who they were but as they spend more time as Sidestep, they came to think- to believe their power could be put to good. They thought they were helping, and that being Sidestep feel so good with it.

And now... It just feel like a old book that had been worn out and read so many times that it felt hard to throw it away. They knew it was once for good, and they knew it was once for not good. Yet they need it, because... they knew it's a danger power, and they will have to wield it for better, or worse. Whatever it may, they will use it because they absolutely have to.

...But also, sometimes they wish they could turn it off, and avoid every loud static noise digging into their brain. A torturing reminder. They want it off, and they didn't want to play as Aoyun, because it's just, no, for them and yet they need her to take a breather from it.

In Anita's words, 'it fucking sucks yet i still need it in the end.'

hi! i’m making this because i was inspired by maxpawb’s post i saw on toyhouse , which then led me to look at all my own art that is still somehow intact in my storage. this only details stuff from when i started posting online, not from when i started drawing traditionally as a wee lad. partially because my sketchbooks are lost and partially because i never really wrote down dates on my art to begin with.

a lot of dates are lost, due to the aforementioned problem of me not writing things down.. and also i have awful dissociative memory problems so there’s way too many gaps in my life. but i really did want to do this to see how much i could find & how much i could recollect.

this was when i joined warriors amino and i deleted my account because i got in trouble for having social media, LMAO. i eventually came back with a new one though. this is probably one of the only surviving art pieces from when i was THIS YOUNG, everything’s on an ipad that’s so broken it won’t even charge

i learned how to use the smudge tool on ibispaint at this time and thought i was the coolest bitch on the block for my blending

may 2019, i was like 12

my return to amino (and brief period on deviantart, which i never used again lmao) i was specifically on wings of fire amino + warriors amino. i was obsessed with airbrush shading.

this is one of my first fursonas which was a wings of fire fanflight called kitsunewings or smth. and also my first species character (he predated the dragon), a bayfox, which was drawn in krita. i never used krita again after this. coincidentally, i was also never active in bayfoxes after submitting him.

i crawled back to ibispaint no matter how many new free programs i tried.. (also tried firealpaca once. i couldn’t even figure out how to draw a line…)

the rise of my longest lasting fursona. she got stolen on a shitty app called anime maker once. i can’t remember if she’s older than the dragon, andromeda, but her older iterations definitelt are. this character was just the FIRST first fursona that i actually called that, since i didn’t even really know what a furry was at first

my first commission that i sold for like 30 deviantart points (i only used the site for commission purposes, as mentioned before i never really used it lmao)

also i tried to make a closed species on wings of fire amino. second image. it was terribly stressful ; this was around the time i met my longest lasting group of friends (hi freak bin! 5 years <3) and.. some of the worst people i’ve ever met in my life at the same time, LMAOOO

also here’s this kokichi ouma dog i made before i even knew what danganronpa was. i would find out much later, unfortunately

i think around this time i lost contact with the people who were my groomers (which i would realize later) and i’m thankful that i don’t even remember what their names are.

wow i’m 13 now look at that. i had to go digging for this one, only one i could find that was remotely close to my birthday (it’s the 25th!) this was a drawing for my friend bea lol

was still friends with some pretty shitty people from wings of fire amino, and it was really taking a toll on me. i don’t remember drawing as often as i used to during that time because of all of that.

one year older and i got neo twewy for my birthday and it changed my life permanently. in several ways. anyhow, here’s frindoka furries.. they live in my files forever and will never b drawn again because they got redesigned several more times LOLLLLL

this is the month after i broke off permanently from my shitty old friends, with support of some other friends of mine. thank you guys… i did proceed to get harassed and made paranoid over my text messages by the shitty friends cause they were mad i got one of them banned from a furry adopts server for being literally dangerous. i do know it was them bc it was admitted to & they were some of the only people i gave my phone number to. i was kind of dumb for that

i was happy after my birthday because 13 was one of the worst years of my life. literal constant spirals and breakdowns because this is when i realize i was, in fact, groomed. i’m well and handling it better now.

Cyborg 009 BGOOParts Delete (2020) - Volume 2

A full year has past since I read volume 1, so it’s time for me to get up to speed. Luckily, since this is a story that has been rehashed time and time again, it’s going to be easier to recall what’s going on. I can’t believe 3 more volumes have already come out, what a quick turnaround time! (Probably not a good sign tbh).

Ch. 8

-It kind of bugs me how the cyborgs names are stylized with their numbers and then their actual names in furigana. Are they calling each other by their names or their numbers? Confusing...

-The art style continues to be gorgeous. Love the dedication to keeping older aesthetics alive (I follow some artists on Insta that do 90s anime art).

-A lot of the vocabulary went over my head this chapter, but it’s not too hard to grasp the generic “mwahaha we’ll become powerful Gods and take over the world” narrative.

-I feel like some of the Mythos cyborgs translate well to modern day and some are too cheesy to take seriously -cough- hippo man -cough cough-

Ch. 9

-Whelp, that chapter was kind of difficult to understand. This manga is very monologue/dialogue heavy. I could basically tell that they were going on and on about destiny and the meaning of their existence (both the numbers cyborgs and the mythos cyborgs)

-Kind of annoying how 003 gets relegated to “(wo)man in the chair” instead of getting in on the main action, but oh well. I guess it makes sense since her ability isn’t really useful in battle.

Ch. 10

-So Hera took over Rico’s body preventing the numbers cyborgs from attacking her. Once again, I struggled to follow this one. Even though it’s a modern Cyborg 009, they still talk in an old timey way that’s hard to follow.

-These chapters are really short. This one was basically entirely villain monologue and very boring.

Ch. 11

-Okay, I lied, that chapter was kind of long. We’re really moving at a snail’s pace here. Like a multiple chapter build up to a single battle...is that really necessary? What is this, Dragon Ball?

-Helena (or one of her sister’s) and Pan show up. Helena says something about this being a battle that was fought before previously. Tell me about it lol...

Ch. 12

-A pretty dull fighting chapter where the Mythos cyborgs mock the numbers cyborgs. They all seem to be paired up with cyborgs similar to them and mostly evenly matched.

-The horse cyborg’s neck guns are pretty cursed looking, yuck

-So apparently other numbers cyborgs can use acceleration mode because of the Dolphin somehow? That just feels like cheating...

Ch. 13

-In this chapter Apollon just goes on an on about his “real sister” Helena who is also Artemis I guess? I dunno lol. He said that she has the power to amplify her teammates powers which...I’m so sick of these female characters getting the lame supporting role bleh. Also 003 shows up for like two seconds and does nothing (except call for Ivan).

-Joe has literally been standing around saying nothing for several chapters now. What a boring hero. He might as well be a silent video game protagonist.

-Urgh...gotta find something positive to say...I guess I was kinda excited that Ivan was mentioned for the first time in awhile, but we didn’t actually get to see him. Boo.

-I know it was like this in the OG manga, but I wonder what the logic was behind making some of the Mythos cyborgs animal hybrids and some human like. Achilles is a panther dude for example.

Ch. 14

-Joe successfully defeats Achilles, Geronimo fights the minotaur and Francoise confronts Helena (who she recognizes from their past meeting). It was nice to see Geronimo fighting for a change.

Not sure if I’m finding this painful to read because of the tricky, kanji-heavy Japanese or because the writing sucks. Gonna say it’s a combo of the two...Oh well. Only a few volumes to go and I’ll be done. Just want the Mythos arc to end.

I enjoy the well-done horror movies lmao I think Indonesian ghosts are scarier. I would recommend Pengabdi Setan (2020). I think if it's available on Netflix outside Indonesia, it'd be named Satan's Slave or smth.

TV's kinda shit tbh. Once, I was really invested in this one soap opera, but they dragged the story too much it became dumb and frustrating😩

Okay so just watched deadwater fell here are my thoughts I had while watching and my honest review

(spoilers ahead)

Ep1

So this is set In a nice rural community and everyone seems happy, so something horrible is going to happen

Is it me or does David looks like kilgrave

These cut scenes are creepy

These characters are nice I hope nothing bad happens

OMFG THE HOUSE IS BURNING DOWN

So much has happened and I'm not even half-way

Jess and Tom slept together?!?!?! (Should of seen that coming)

Ep2

This is a weird opening

So I'm really conflicted if he actually killed them or not, curse u david for being a great actor

When jess is helping Kate when there drunk for a minute I thought they were going to kiss

As much as I feel bad for Kate if David looked at me like that I would do anything for him in a heart beat

SHE TOLD STEVE SHE SLEPT WITH TOM

I'm sorry but I do not like jess

Why was Emily running in the forest?

Ep3

Kate knew about them. :(

I'm sorry but have to say I've seen David's ass way to many times now

Everything aside I feel horrible for jess and Steve

I would of let Steve hit Tom

Tbh the only person Tom is trying to convince is himself rn

Oh, did not expect the tragic back story

So he kinda admits to hurting Kate but not really. Then just walks away like it's nothing 🚶

Yay, working things out by actually talking to eachother

Watching what actually happened is insane

And with that we are left with a bittersweet ending

I liked the main story and the side plots Everyone's acting was great and cause of that made me get into the story more

But

The problem is its only 4 episode's so everything this rushed and happens all at once so it definitely gets overwhelming.

There a some things that a never get talked about. Like there is some points when Carol is rude towards Kate and that is never really explained why. Not even when Carol is actually being nice to her

Cause of the small amount of episodes I feel like the charecters don't get fleshed out properly. I kept going back and forth with a lot of these characters cause personally I just don't think we get to understand then enough.

Finally I kinda hate how they were all so quick to think that Tom did it. Don't get me wrong from the beginning there were some clues but once again if we had more eps would of loved to seen more conflict between charecters and more questioning if he actually did it.

At the end of the day these are my opinions and if u agree or disagree that's perfectly fine by me :)

So for the unpopular opinion (and I think this one it's really gonna be unpopular): I always feel like GMM shows are overrated, just because they are GMM.

A lot of great shows, with amazing stories and acting goes unnoticed, and everything and anything GMM does (good, bad, cuestionable, mediocre, however they are) gets so much praising and exposure. They've done amazing things like Not Me, The Gifted (where they even manage to overcome the 2nd season curse all Thai shows have suffered so far -in my opinion) but most is just ok or meh.. like another person say in these asks, 1000stars was ok but not the masterpiece everyone was saying it was, same thing with 2gether, I mean it was fun but that's it, the acting in that show wasn't that good and the story was quite simple, which wouldn't have a problem if it had gone a little deeper or with better acting (like in ITSAY, a very simple a story but told in such a way that felt monumental)

Conclusion after all this rambling, it always feels to me that GMM is more about product, creating this shows as premade meals, meant to satisfy the most diverse audience, always nc-13 . And it feels like lost opportunities, sometimes you see so much potential in a show, in a story, in an actor and you just know it's not gonna be explored and it'll fall flat...

oooh, I see your point, really I do, but I'm gonna have to disagree. gmmtv has a lot of flaws but not being boundary pushing isn't one of them. of course I wouldn't say they're the MOST boundary pushing thai production company, I would say nadao (rest in peace) was much better at that. that being said, where I see your point is that definitely most gmmtv shows are very safe & often quite mediocre, but that's mostly bc gmmtv have been producing dozens of shows a year for almost a decade. bc of the enormous quantity of releases, it's literally bound to happen. now though, where I disagree is that gmmtv has produced some of the most DARING thai dramas ever, while every other companies stays safe just creating basic ass bls or boring ass lakorns. not me? literally the most political show ever that reflected the current political situation in thailand & trended every week bc it stirred something in the thai people. 3 will be free? the first asian show EVER to portray a polyamorous relationship. the warp effect? perhaps the most sexual thai drama ever that actually talks about sex without taboo AND features such a great diversity of stories. a gift for whom you hate? again, super political, talking directly about the prime minister & corruption. the gifted, the eclipse, 1000 stars & so many others all feature politics & corruption in some way. and I could continue all day tbh. I'm not saying other production companies are not capable of good, daring shows or whatever, but it's clear to me with gmmtv 2023 that gmmtv are becoming more & more daring with their content as each year passes, and also more diverse. I mean they're doing sci-fi with UMG, supernatural stuff with midnight museum & the enigma, realistic queer stories with only friends... I also think now gmmtv is actually losing some popularity bc they're not playing into the super explicit bl shows that other companies produce, so this idea that shows are successful just bc they're from gmmtv... doesn't quite hold true anymore. maybe until 2020 before the bl market got saturated, but not now. but I definitely do wish gmmtv's quality was more uniformous across all of their shows so I will agree with you on that, bc yes, quite often, their shows fall flat.

nine years of drawing with a digital art tablet baeby! i have some older traditional/non-tablet digital pieces as well but i dunno what year they’re from. i’ll make a more complete yearly progress chart next year.

overall, i’m pretty okay with things considering it’s just a hobby.

it’s still a bit frustrating to see that i peaked with pretty stuff in 2018, but as i said before i’ve improved a lot more in other ways and i don’t think i’d be happy with myself if i kept just drawing pretty faces with boring compositions.

before i compiled this, my feeling was that i thought i did really well in 2020. but that was just the year my posts did well on social media (did well for ME). looking back, there wasn’t really anything complete and unique that i liked a lot. and i thought i kinda flopped in 2021 ‘cause i didn’t post all that much, but i’m really happy with my output that year TBH. i want to draw more fun scenes and pictures with deep feelings!

the time i spend on a complete piece has decreased a lot because i’m more concerned with having an interesting atmosphere over making sure the rendering and anatomy is perfect. also, i’ve just gotten quicker at drawing overall. i always try to keep it under 10 hours nowadays unless it’s got lineart... that shit makes it take so much longer orz.

2022 kinda felt like a flop again, aw man. i kinda forgot that i spent a good part of the early year drawing a whole korekiyo dojinshi? i felt really down about it at the time since i was utterly unmotivated (it’s fucking korekiyo i don’t know how i cared enough about him to draw a whole comic about him), but now i’m like... woah... people actually enjoyed that? i sold out of all 28 copies i had printed, so now i’m considering reprinting it again. who knows...

anyway i got an ipad this year and started using procreate so i sketched a good bit more. i finished dai gyakuten saiban, got motivated by my chemical romance, and completed a bunch of stuff i was pretty proud of in a single week. unfortunately completing dai gyakuten saiban also made me fall in love with barok van zieks for some reason so i basically spent the second half of the year just drawing self-ship art and van zieks pr0n. it’s not even crap worth posting.

i feel like i didn’t complete or post that much (at least on my main account) because of that. but actually, i always forget i have more finished pieces for zines that i don’t post... idk if i should admit it but i use zines as a way to motivate myself to finish stuff honestly. i think without that i’d flop even more and not get me to draw anything... but i will stop doing that from now on because i don’t feel satisfied with my artistic output drawing for zines. bleh.

last year i was obsessed with making dojinshi and this year i got into merch stuff since i was tabling at a convention for the first time, but honestly...! it’s a pain in the ass!!! i don’t want to bother with maintaining an online store and i don’t want to create products for the sake of creating products so i’m only gonna make what i personally want from now on.

so i spent 75+ hours rendering a barok van zieks dakimakura.

I WANT TO THROW UP!!! IT’S SO SICKENING TO ME THAT THE PIECE I’VE SPENT THE MOST TIME ON EVER IS A FUCKING VAN ZIEKS DAKIMAKURA!!!! HE’S NOT EVEN IN MY TOP 5 ACE ATTORNEY CHARACTERS!!!!!!!!!! preorder link in my bio btw.

that was just 2 weeks ago basically, but i felt so fucking ill about it. luckily i finished off the year with a nice complete drawing so i’m happy and i love myself again ^_^

i want to focus on 3D art next year, draw more complete scenes, get around to my drawing idea backlog... get into some new fucking media because i am sick of that white man cursing me for the past six months. yep yep!

I have the curse of whenever I write a song about a situation, the situation ends within a few months later, e.g. I wrote a song about The Lesbian Realisation™ I had in 2020, then a few months later I realised I wasn't actually a lesbian. I wrote about how much I loved the onceler in May 2021, by the end of June the hyperfixation had disappeared and I got notoriously depressed.

It sometimes works positively, like in 2022 my sister would take days to open my messages and we'd barely talk while we were both at uni, which was unusual bc we would normally talk all the time, so I wrote about it and then suddenly we were talking a lot more? She doesn't even know the song exists. I also wrote a song a few months ago about how threads 1984 was consuming my brain negatively, and conveniently after that it wasn't affecting me as much.

but either way I'm always paranoid about what I write about, bc I don't want something good to end, e.g. a friendship or a hyperfixation or just the general good vibes of the time. Which means most of my songs end up being kind of depressing bc they're usually about things I actually want to end.

however........the solution might be to write them in Drozdli? I wrote that one song about Swag last year and my hyperfixation on him and truffula flu in general didn't change one bit (if anything it got even better tbh). So yeah, idk why I posted this it's just. An Observation....... but tis weird how many times this has happened whenever I write a song.

@tackytigerfic tagged me in the stats game, for which i am very grateful bc i love these games!

so i've written 119 fics across 11 fandoms, but i'm going to stick to my HP stuff just for the sake of a cohesive list. i'm also going to stick to fics with 1k+ wordcount bc drabbles feel like cheating a bit. also even all these have over 1k hits which is like!!! imagine a thousand people picking up your story off the shelf at the library or bookstore and reading it or even just quietly thumbing through it or thinking hmm i like the look of this and i'm going to take it home. and then they don't get to it. but still! it's kind of a staggering number.

Without Pretense (3.5K) harry and draco are friends but still dancing around whether they'll wind up dating. draco gets curious about harry acting strange one night, and after following him, discovers harry doing something bizarre but very harry. i have a soft spot for this story! i love all my stories really. obviously a lot of the emotional catharsis in this story comes from the release of tension between harry and draco (they DO get together in the end!) but also. this story is partly about how rootless harry feels as an orphan (and a Black orphan tbh!) and the silly, reckless, loving thing he does with that feeling.

Forth They Went Together (11.8K) so this is the 4th and final part of my moonrise series, and being part 4 of a 60K series is kind of a high barrier to entry to be fair. so i'm not surprised this fic has relatively fewer kudos. also it's a christmas story and i kinda feel like ppl don't like that? anyway, not super plotty. draco is a lycanthropy rights activist (and a werewolf) and a reform bill has just been passed granting lycanthropes some rights that have been denied them, in large part due to draco's work and his testimony to the wizengamot, and he's So Excited! this story is about the two of them basking in the love and light of their chosen family, really. there are also a couple of moments of sharp contrast between draco's chosen family and his family of origin. one of my favorite things in this fic is the relationship between draco and ginny! i love their stupid nicknames for each other. best friend shit. i also LOVE harry dressing up as santa (so does draco lol...)

Homing (8.6K) this is another christmas story! i do kinda feel like ppl don't rlly like reading christmas stories in this fandom? and yet i'm working on another one (which isn't actually about christmas but it'll be kind of holidayish)(i digress). draco gets disowned by his parents for refusing to marry astoria (his best friend) and astoria and harry conspire to have him stay with harry at grimmauld place. there are some letters back and forth between draco and astoria which is always fun. draco is a pianist who plays at a muggle gay bar, which i love. my spouse noted that i (who have a complicated relationship with my homophobic parents) keep giving draco a clean break in my stories. changing for the better is exquisite and painful, and not everyone you wish would come with you always does.

The Joy of Bleeding (6K) draco has just lost his estranged mother, and through a confluence of factors, harry is the eldest member of the Black family and has to assist with her burial, as draco no longer has the legal right to. oh also harry is draco's ex boyfriend who's still in love with him. this is another story about loving the people who are there for you and loving the people who fail you. draco's chosen family rallies around him, and everything sucks and hurts so bad but there are beautiful and sublime things too. i'm not going to say what the opening scene is because i think it's better unspoiled, but i really liked that choice.

Solarium (10.3 K) this is part 2 of moonrise, my werewolf draco series. i wrote this in 2020 and it shows! harry gets cursed through handling a cursed artifact at grimmauld place (where he and draco happen to live) and winds up in the hospital for a few weeks, struggling to throw off a sleeping curse. he's miserable and bored and his mind is foggy and he's scared he'll never be the same again. and also he doesn't want to move out of grimmauld place -_- draco is so worried and loves harry so much and is so fucking frustrated with him for not taking the obvious precaution. they figure it out, though. i really like the scenes with hagrid in this story. nobody includes hagrid for some reason, but he's So Important. also love the very last scene. more about how harry's relationship with his background so to speak, as a Black orphan (all my harry potters are Black; just remember that when you read my work!) i'll include a snippet bc i just can't resist

Also, I watched Persuasion (yes that cursed Netflix adaption). Admittedly, it is a bit like beating a dead horse, and I think that the review that said that everyone involved should be briefly put in prison until they understand their crimes against literature and cinema more broadly said it perfectly so adding my own thoughts into the mix are perhaps redundant. But I will say I have never watched anything that has made me quite so angry and offended at its complete butchering of the source material.

And I'm by no means an Austen purist - I think some of the best adaptions that have been made of her work has been made when creators have taken risks and not everything needs to be as faithful to its source as 1995 Pride and Prejudice. The diversity of the cast is about the only nice thing I will say about this movie even though its diversity felt incredibly surface level. Plus, Henry Golding clearly ought to have been Wentworth and:

They fundamentally misunderstand and butcher Anne as a character and therefore the most fundamental element of the novel doesn't work

The writers and producers have created as close to a carbon copy of Emma (2020) as they possibly could, not only copying major elements of the visual elements of the movie but also trying to change Anne's character to be more like Emma, completely forgetting the fact that they are two completely different characters

It was also like they saw how the occasional breaking of the fourth wall worked so well in Persuasion (2007) and how popular it was in Fleabag, and decided to just throw it in with little thought or consideration, thereby ruining one of my favourite least-used narrative devices in visual media, making me wonder why I even like it to begin with if it can produce such a travesty as Persuasion (2022). I might exaggerate but only barely.

Absolute garbage use of tension for a story that is entirely too reliant on the maintenance of tension. Anne and Wentworth don't go around checking in re: each other's feelings all the time because they are prevented from doing so at two levels: personal and societal. Completely removing that all together made for a movie with zero stakes and no tension. If they really wanted to ignore everything about the time period, they really ought to have just made a modernisation, instead of whatever cursed halfway house this was.

I could quite frankly write books about all the myriad of ways this adaption was just an utter flop, and I know no one asked for this, especially seeing as I mostly just write about Bridgerton stuff on here, but I just need you to know that WATCHING THIS ADAPTION IS NOT FUN - IT'S NOT EVEN FUN!BAD AND TBH IF YOU CAN AVOID AND WATCH IT LATER, PLEASE DO, BECAUSE I REGRET WATCHING IT BECAUSE NOW NETFLIX ARE GOING TO THINK PRODUCING THIS LOW-LEVEL CRAP IS OK BECAUSE THEY ARE GOING TO GET LOTS OF VIEWERS.

Sorry, I will resume my regularly scheduled programming soon but I just need people to know my pain. This is in my opinion arguably Austen's greatest novel and it's so quiet and delicate and this wonderful exploration of human psychology, relationships, regret, loyalty etc. It also has the most romantic letter ever committed to fiction and to have that reduced to "Now we are worse than friends, we are exes" or whatever the exact line is, is an affront.
